The best RV travel apps help you arrive safely at your destination. Download these navigation and other road trip apps to help make travel days easier.

Trucker Path

Price: Free

This app is a great tool to find the most convenient fuel, snack, and potty breaks along your route. Simply enter your destination and see all truck stops and rest areas along the way.

For each stop, the app shows the number of truck parking spots available, which helps you determine if it is going to be a big lot or a tight squeeze for your rig. They also note what restaurants are on site and if the stop has an RV dump station.

The upgraded version of Trucker Path ($99.99 per year) also offers truck routing to help RVs and other large vehicles avoid low clearances and other undesirable routes.

Google Maps

This one RV travel app is probably already installed on your phone, but I am recommending that you use it on each drive day.

While we recommend using an RV-safe GPS or a road carrier’s atlas to plan your route, Google Maps is another necessary travel day app. We recommend using the app for its real-time traffic features.

The app will notify you of any delays and provide alternate routes, to help you avoid being stuck in traffic on a long drive. Always consult your Atlas or GPS before turning on alternate routes.

Fuel is one of the largest expenses on any RV road trip. GasBuddy provides maps with current fuel prices to help RV travelers find the best price on gas or diesel every time they fill up.

App users also have access to the free GasBuddy fuel card, which offers savings on every gallon, at any station. Just securely link your bank account, swipe, and save up to 25¢ per gallon.

My favorite app for finding RV campgrounds is Arvie.com, which has several unique features. Arvie does not just help you find RV campsites. This RV campground app actually books campsites for you. This is the most comprehensive app to locate RV campgrounds and places to park overnight. You can easily zoom in on a city or highway to see all RV parks, campgrounds, and overnight parking spots on your route.

Their extensive list of filters, allows users to limit their searches by price, RV camping club, hookup types, and RV park amenities. The app also includes truck stops for travelers to find fuel along their route.

Created by campers for campers, Campendium has tens of thousands of places to camp, from swanky RV parks to free remote destinations. It is my favorite place to search for dry camping spots.

The best part of this RV camping app is the detailed reviews. Campgrounds and boondocking spots alike have been reviewed by their 580,000 plus members.

ReserveAmerica Camping

ReserveAmerica, provides online campsite reservations for state, provincial, private and local government RV parks and campgrounds. Most state parks and many other campgrounds use ReserveAmerica as their exclusive online reservation system.

The ReserveAmerica Camping app allows campers to search for campsites, view campground maps and photos and make reservations all over the country.

Harvest Hosts

YouTube is an app you probably already have installed on your phone but it is also a great tool for RVers. When we first started RVing, we knew nothing about RV repairs. However, we were able to successfully fix several RV issues ourselves after turning to YouTube.

This handy app takes all the cell phone company’s data coverage maps and fuses them together as one. Easily determine whether a campground has strong cell service before making a reservation.

This app is especially helpful if you work online and rely on a mobile hotspot for your internet connection. The app includes coverage data across the United States and Canada. All the coverage maps in the app are also updated with all the latest information, including the latest 5G rollouts.

Once you arrive at your destination, it’s time to start enjoying the local flavor. Use Yelp to find local bars and restaurants. Their extensive filters allow you to sort by specific types of cuisine, price points, and dog-friendly locations.

Full-time RVers or campers on an extended road trip can also use the app to find other local establishments, such as dog groomers, hair salons, laundromats, and more.

The Best Apps for RVers You Need to Know About

We are full-time RVers who travel all around the United States. We have been to Mexico and Canada in our RV too. On my phone and my laptop are many apps. There are apps I wouldn’t plan a trip without. Some help provide safety for our travel and our stays. And some apps make the stays more fun and adventurous.

My Must-Have RV Travel Apps

Whether you are full-time or just absorbing all you can in bursts, here are the travel apps for RVers I think can enhance and protect your experiences. Enjoy them, because I’m confident they will make your travel planning a whole lot better before, during, and after your road trip to enhance your experience.

Fuel Apps: Open Roads and Mudflap

The Open Roads app will require you to be a member. But if you travel full-time or a lot of miles in your RV and you use diesel, this is one of the best apps for RVers because it helps you identify fuel stops. These fuel stops along with your membership will give you discounts on diesel. They have recently updated their app with a better map. You can see where you are on the map immediately and see your route so you can find the best fuel discount rate at gas stations and truck stops. As a member, you can also search your card transactions and history. The service is good across the United States and Canada.

Mudflap is another app for fuel discounts. They do not require a membership, but you will also need to provide your bank account information to set it up.

Where to Stay: RV LIFE Campgrounds

This the first place you should look. When we want to find campsites for your RV on public land or privately owned RV parks, RV LIFE Campgrounds is what we use. Search by state and zone in on the area you prefer. You can also read and submit reviews about the campgrounds. It’s easy to sort the results by the number of stars a campground has received from other campers, and filter for other criteria like amenities.

Once you begin looking at individual campground options, you will find an overview of the park, photos, lists of amenities, and reviews. I like the ‘tips’ area because you can get specific ideas here such as things to do in the area, nearby trails, or even things you want to be prepared for before you arrive at the campground. There are also suggestions of things to take advantage of while you are at the campground itself.

Harvest Hosts is another great option.

This app requires a membership, but it has access to a lot of one-night stay options. If you are moving from one area to another but the drive is just too far to make it in one day, Harvest Hosts stays are the perfect stop-over. With your membership, you will get access to the app as well as exclusive member discounts to other RV-related companies and services.

They include stays at wineries, farms, attractions, and breweries & distilleries. You can also upgrade and add golf course options or even boondocking stays. The stays are free, but it is required you patronize the business on the night of your stay and spend some dollars as a thank-you for the free stay. Also, consider adding their CampScanner app to your toolkit. This lets you make reservations at over 9,600+ campgrounds at national and state parks, and other awesome destinations with RV camping.

Trip Planning: RV Life Pro

This is the best GPS app because it turns your phone into an RV safe GPS. The big bonus is that this subscription-based app is designed by RVers for RVers. It’s better than Google maps alone, because unlike Google which doesn’t have an “RV-safe roads” setting, RV LIFE Pro directions are custom tailored to the height & weight of your RV. So, you will know ahead of time where there are steep mountains, low-clearance bridges, bridges with weight limits, and facilities like RV dump stations. You can even get turn-by-turn navigation help even when you may be without cell service.

This really is the best RV travel app that’s totally worth the subscription. It also includes a suite of helpful tools, like the trip planning app RV Trip Wizard , which is different from the Good Sam trip planner because it automatically includes all brands of private campgrounds and public parks (with Good Sam, you have to ask it to search for all brands). You also get access to many other helpful tools that make RVing better, like RV LIFE Campgrounds .

RV Travel Safety: The Weather Channel

The Weather Channel app is comprehensive even if you get the free version. Select your location and it will save it. You can regularly search the weather forecast between multiple locations. This is great if you are planning on leaving an RV stay and heading for a new location. You can make sure the weather works for your travels in both areas.

We have found the weather reports to be more accurate than any other weather reporting apps. But yes – no weather app is perfect. You can search for hourly or daily weather reports. The app will also give you weather warnings for your area. Scan the radar to track storm movements across time and location. You may not know about wind gusts in time to get your awning in, but you can also see wind speeds as well as sunrise and sunset times for your location.

Cell Coverage: Coverage?

We live in an era when RV internet is almost as important as water and fuel. Cell phone coverage apps for RVers are necessary for most of us. A great way to find out if you have coverage wherever you plan on going is the Coverage? app for Android or iPhone.

If you work from your RV or want connectivity for potential emergencies, it is important to know you have reliable internet coverage before you arrive. Of course, it is not always perfect. One time we arrived at a park to find we were down in a gully. Although cell service was in that area, the dip down behind the hills left us with no service. So be sure to read campground or area reviews too.

Smart RV Control: Lippert OneControl

This app by RV parts manufacturer Lippert helps you control many of the aspects of your RV. Many RVs have Lippert products, and it makes it easier to control these features in one place. There are a lot of features it covers – everything from monitoring tire pressure to controlling your slides. You can also receive real-time notifications based on your app settings.

Here are just a few of the features you can control with the app: antennas, routers, monitor panels, leveling, propane sensors, keyless door locks, temp sensors, cameras, and even anti-lock brakes. So it is convenient to be able to monitor multiple items in one app. If you have a lot of products by one brand in your travel trailer or motorhome, you may look to see if they have an app available for monitoring multiple products.

Fun RV Apps for RVers

Identifying species: seek.

This is a neat camera app. Point and click your phone camera at any plant, animal, or fungi. The Seek app will identify it. Enter your location and learn about the species you observe. This can also be a safety app because it can help avoid poisonous plants and animals. It can be fun for kids. They can earn badges for identifying different types of species and participating in challenges.

The app will also give you a list and photos of various species in your location to identify them in advance and even look for them on hikes. You can track your observations by editing and managing them in the app. It is easy to use. Here is a camera button right at the bottom of the main app. So, take a photo and follow the steps for identification or managing your photo. It is a great way to go back and remember experiences and sightings along your walks or travels. Great for bird watchers or any animal or plant enthusiasts!

Language Translation: Talking Translator

This one of the best apps for RVers who go to Mexico. It’s also easy to use. Once you install it, you pick the language for yourself and who you would like to translate. It is simple to see which way to point your phone. You will need to permit it to translate. When the other language speaker talks, it will translate it into your language. If you turn the volume up on your phone, you can click a microphone that will play it out loud for you too. I don’t find this necessary, but it is a great app to learn useful quick sentences for basic communication.

Stargazing: Stellarium

Here’s a star map app for night sky viewing and learning about astronomy. After you download it, select the constellations option on the menu. Not only can you move your phone around and see the lines for the constellations, but they also have a very light shadow behind the constellations that represent the “asterism” of the group of stars pattern. In other words, the animal, person, or object depicted by the star grouping. Click on any constellation and get interesting facts about it like distance and the meaning of its name.

The most important step in planning the perfect RV trip should begin with planning the trip itself. Many navigational apps, such as Google maps, are intended for use in your car — not in an RV. A successful RV trip begins with determining a safe route based on your RV’s specifications. Luckily there are many apps available for planning your RV route.

1. RV Trip Wizard (the free version of RV Life Pro)

The RV Trip Wizard app offers an interactive trip planner with dozens of features to simplify your next RV trip. RV Trip Wizard lets you quickly navigate with RV maps to easily access RV park sites (with reviews by CampgroundReviews.com), overnight parking options, fuel stops, restroom facilities, dump sites, and other facilities. Google Maps may be great for car travel, but sometimes it can lead you down the wrong path in an RV.

With an RV GPS app, you set the destination, the starting point, and what kind of RV or tow vehicle you have, and the app will create your best route.

If you’re looking to explore different areas during your travels, it can help you find exciting attractions anywhere. With its color-coded categories such as ‘Outdoors & Adventure,’ ‘Family Fun,’ and ‘History & Culture,’ plus detailed descriptions of famous places in each category, it’s easy to discover new destinations while on the go. 4. Harvest Hosts

Harvest Hosts offers a membership program to allow RVers to camp over 4176+ incredible small business locations such as farms, wineries, or attractions across the U.S.

Harvest Hosts was one of my favorite apps to use when I was on my cross-country trip as a new RVer . I camped my Airstream on alpaca farms and learned how the animals live, are sheared, and how their wool is spun into yarn.

I loved being able to buy local homemade alpaca clothing and gifts from each of these hosts. I also stayed at wineries, on blueberry farms in Pennslyvania, and camped in picturesque apple orchards in NY. There are so many great hosts to choose from and I could choose the ones that allowed me to bring my dogs !.

5. Boondockers Welcome

Boondockers Welcome is now included in the Harvest Hosts membership but can also be purchased separately for $79/yr. 6. Campendium

Campendium is an excellent app for finding free and low-cost camping options, including boondocking sites, dispersed camping areas, and other unique camping locations. With its comprehensive database of user-generated content, you can easily find a place to park your RV and enjoy the great outdoors.

With the Campendium app, you can get ideas for great remote camping and hiking places to explore. The site attracts more than 2,000 visitors daily, offering a steady flow of updated and informative reviews and photographs.

I receive their email newsletter highlighting cool places in remote areas nationwide that I may want to explore someday.

7. iOverlander

iOverlander is an app specifically designed for overland travelers, providing information on camping, water, and other essential services. This app also includes a community-driven database to get first-hand recommendations from fellow RV travelers.

8. RV Parky

This app is a comprehensive resource for RV travelers, providing information on over 20,000 RV parks and campgrounds, reviews, photos, and reservations.

9. The Dyrt

The Dyrt makes the planning of your journey easy. The Dyrt lets you easily locate over 42,000 ranked campgrounds for your journey.

Discover the wonders of our country’s National Parks while you travel, and then book your camping spot with Recreation.gov. Find over 3600 sites across the country. From booking a weekend getaway to planning a cross-country road trip, the Recreation.gov app helps you find and reserve campsites, review location details for your trip, and quickly access information on past and upcoming reservations. There is information on campsites in the National Parks but no user-generated reviews.

The Recreation.gov app also lets you claim a campsite when you arrive at a camp spot. If you didn’t make a reservation in advance, you can use the scan & pay feature to pay directly from your mobile device for first come, first served campsites.

12. Reserve America

I used ReserveAmerica’s mobile app for trip planning and to search for available camp and RV sites, yurts, cabins, and more in the state, federal, and private parks and campgrounds across the U.S. This is the proprietary service for state-operated camping in 32 states. Search by location, date, or amenities, and display search results on a map. View campground details, reviews, and photos at every campground listed.

13. Allstays Camp & RV App

Allstays ($9.99) is a popular camping app that lets you search over 37,000 campgrounds and filter places and services with or without the internet. Unlike many other free camping apps, Allstays provides value with attractive features like offline search and a large RV and tent camping database. You can search their listings by amenities such as hookup types, amps, big rigs access, club discounts, laundry, propane, pet-friendly, RV dump station, age-restricted, and big rigs.

Its “choose to lock your site” option allows travelers to book the actual campsite within their desired campground.

16. NOAA Weather App

Weather apps let you understand the weather wherever you plan on traveling. So you can travel around a location if the weather seems bad or be prepared for storms or extreme temperatures. This app costs $0.99 and shows over 7,090 RV dump stations throughout the US. and Canada. Includes rest areas, truck stops, KOAs, campgrounds, and more. Dump station locations are displayed even when offline.

Many of the other RV apps listed above also include dump stations, but this one is dedicated to them and might be money well spent.

20. Gas Buddy App

The Gas Buddy app is certainly not just for RVers but is a welcome tool for finding the cheapest gas stations along your route, especially in these times of rising gas prices. The app shows you where the lowest-priced gas stops are along your way. The app’s marketing message brags, “ For over 20 years, GasBuddy has saved users over $3.1 billion.”

This app allows you to save money at the pump by unlocking exclusive deals and rewards and completing fun challenges to win free gas.

21. Google Maps

I’ve included Google Maps here on this list though I would NOT recommend it for RV trip planning as your primary tool. It will not account for your RV’s height, weight, or length, so you must watch your route for low-hanging bridges and tight mountain switchbacks. The app sometimes took me on back road shortcuts unsuitable for even my small travel trailer.

I used the app for general route planning since I can add multiple stops. I also like the satellite feature to see where a gas station entrance or campsite entry is and if I have to make a left turn or navigate a tight windy road.

KOA app – KOA is our go-to campground of choice when it’s time to overnight on the road and we need a commercial campground to get some laundry done and empty the tanks. The app lets you see photos of the campground, get an idea of what amenities are available, and read reviews from other RVers who have stayed there. You can also reserve a spot from the app.

Overnight RV Parking/TogoRV – This is another subscription service and it is awesome, listing something like 14,000 places where you can camp overnight for free or at a very low cost. Cracker Barrel – The Cracker Barrel app shows Cracker Barrel locations near you or on your route, many of which allow free overnight stays in the parking lot for RVers. You can also order take-out meals from restaurants along your route. Allowing you to have it ready by the time you get there. Cracker barrel is very friendly to RVers, usually offering plenty of parking even for big rigs.

Apps for RV travel – Plan a trip

Whether plotting out a trip or already on the road and looking for a place to stop, these apps help you find the destinations you‘ll be seeking out.

iExit – This app is great for finding out what’s at the next exit from the interstate, or an exit miles down the way. It locates fuel stops, tells you the average cost per gallon, notes what restaurants and businesses are at that exit. They call it your Roadtrip pit stop finder and it helps save time and figure out where to pull off and find the services you need.

Yelp – We love Yelp and use it all the time to find great restaurants. Pick a location and see what’s near you. Here’s a hint: We always look for places with the best reviews, four or five stars and we’ve never been disappointed and, in fact, have found some awesome local restaurants that we would have passed right by.

Roadtrippers – This app helps you find fun and interesting things to see along your travel route. You can filter it however you want but the app covers just about every region in the country and makes some great suggestions for off-the-beaten-path exploration. Read the reviews from others who have been there and we guarantee you’ll find some fun places to stop.

Waze – Yes, we have GPS built into our RV. But Waze is hands down the best app we have found to not only navigate us to where we need to be but to show us in almost real-time, things like traffic backups, speed traps, road construction, debris on the road, and other important information about what’s ahead. It’s updated by users like you who are up ahead, and you’re encouraged to report issues you encounter for those behind you.

Road Trip Planner – This is a great app for planning a trip. Enter your destination, places where you want to stop and it suggests the best routes to take. This is our plan for a trip to the Adirondacks this summer. You can add notes, side trips and make it a very handy itinerary with all the info you need right at your fingertips. I believe this is only for iOS.

Apps for RV travel – Connect with a physician while on the road

Health care should always be a priority when you’re on the road, but especially now. These apps can connect you with a physician via smartphone, tablet, or laptop. Keep in mind, of course, there will be costs/insurance involved.

Teladoc connects you with a board-certified doctor 24/7/ via phone or video. Teladoc physicians can diagnose, recommend treatment and prescribe medication, for many medical issues, including sore throat and stuffy nose, cold and flu symptoms, and respiratory infection. The app is free for iOS and Android , with costs for connecting with a doc dependent on insurance and other factors.

Doctor On Demand allows users to connect face-to-face with a doctor through video on your smartphone or tablet. Doctor On Demand works with or without insurance and is available at reduced rates through many major health plans and large employers. Providers are licensed, board-certified and U.S.-based. The app is free for iOS and Android , with costs for connecting with a doc dependent on insurance and other factors.

MDLive offers virtual doctor visits with board-certified physicians from wherever you are, whenever you want. Users can schedule a non-emergency appointment at a time and day that’s convenient or have an on-demand visit in around 15 minutes. The app is free for iOS and Android , though there are costs for connecting with a doc dependent on insurance and other factors.

Apps for RV travel – Keep track of your family and friends

Keeping track of the family members and friends you might be traveling with is important. Likewise, if you’re traveling solo, you want to make sure others know where you are located while on the road. These apps take the idea of staying connected to a whole new, safer level.

The app called Life360 , for example, sets up small circles of friends to automatically share information such as location and arrival. You can create custom circles, too, like if a group is going on a hike or exploring and wants to keep track of each other for a short time. The app allows for chatting and sending private messages to other users. It’s free for Android and iOS .

The Zenly app is a real-time location sharing app designed to help friends keep track of each other and connect in person. Whether at the park, campground, concert, carnival, or beach, the app lets others know where you are. It is also free for iOS and Android .

And the app MamaBear Family Safety is designed for parents to monitor their kids’ location. But since it allows users to get updates and messages, it can easily be oriented towards RVing. For example, you could use it to check in with family back home and keep them updated as to your location without having to text or call or check-in. The app even has a panic button that can be activated if needed. For parents, the app has a social media monitor that allows Mom and Dad to see what the kids are doing on social media It even can be set to show their teen’s driving habits, so they know whether they are speeding. But RVers could use those features so friends and family back home could follow their social media posts and see whether they are on the road or camped somewhere. It’s free for iOS and Android with premium features available for purchase.

Apps for RV travel – Summer Safety

With the brunt of RVing done during the summer, it’s important to remember the elements presented by Mother Nature during the warmest time of the year. These apps help you practice even better summer safety.

OSHA-NIOSH Heat Safety Tool , from The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, helps you take precautions against outdoor heat while working or playing. It features a real-time heat index and hourly forecasts, specific to your location. The app is free for iOS and Android .

The Waterlogged app makes sure you stay hydrated. The app tracks your water intake with minimal effort and can send reminders of when it’s time to drink water. The app is free for iOS and Android , with in-app purchases for premium features.

EPA’s SunWise UV Index app provides a daily and hourly forecast of the expected intensity of ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun, as well as sun safety tips, to help you plan your outdoor activities. The app is free for iOS and Android .

Audubon Bird Guide is an app that helps you get outside and get your birdwatching on. It covers 810 species using photos instead of drawings, includes range maps, has a good selection of audio recordings including alternate calls and regional variations, and slightly more descriptive text including habitat, range, and nesting information. The app is free for iOS and Android .

Another great app to use outside on your own is called Sky Guide . The app shows a detailed picture of the heavenly bodies above, as well as what’s over the horizon and on the other side of the world. The app points out constellations and their exact locations, so you can look up at the real sky and find everything. The app is $2.99 and available for iOS .

As long as you’re outside exploring, consider the iNaturalist app. It helps you identify the plants and animals around you. Get connected with a community of over 400,000 scientists and naturalists who can help you learn more about nature when you document what you’ve seen. . The app is free for iOS and Android .

Drive Weather app illustrates the National Weather Service’s forecast showing motorists weather along their route at the expected time they will be at each point on their trip. Drive Weather shows motorists road trip weather, compares weather on different routes, allows drivers to add stops and interactively change departure time to find the safest time to travel. The app is available for Android and iOS

NOAA Weather Radar Live is a must-have in our book, offering weather forecasts, and much more. Features include a radar overlay that shows areas of rain, snow, and mixed precipitation in high resolution and vivid colors. Set your device to received alerts from the app whenever severe weather is on the way, too. The app is free for iOS and Android .

The Storm Radar app brings you up-to-date high-definition radar provided by NOAA. In fact, Storm Radar lets you view weather patterns up to six hours ahead of time where you live. With so many of our RV Lifestyle Fellow Travelers hitting the road with their pets, I would be remiss to not include two apps that can be useful for RVing with a four-legged friend/friends.

Pet First Aid from the American Red Cross is a first aid guide and knowledge base for owners of dogs and cats. The app provides instant access to simple first aid lessons, step-by-step guides, and a nice selection of how-to videos. There’s also a section for vet contact details. Rover is often called a kind of “Uber for dog sitters.” It helps you find dog sitters near you, all of whom have been vetted for trustworthiness, and the service is covered by insurance. We've used this all across the country with great results. Book pet sitters for boarding, house sitting, doggy daycare and visits, and sitters can use the app to provide photo updates and notifications to pet owners. Regarding weather apps, this statement is absolutely FALSE; “At the top of the apps for RV Travel we recommend is this one from NOAA”.

National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration do NOT produce an app. It is illegal for them to do so. Weather or Not is a private company, using the NOAA term without permission.

Relying on free smartphone weather apps to keep you safe could result in a deadly situation if your weather app has to “wait in line” to access location services. Smartphone’s internal GPS is highly accurate. When multiple apps are attempting to access the phone’s GPS chip, it’s internal operating system (IOS) “protects” its battery by throttling back the number of times per hour an app can report it’s location. The user has no way of knowing if this is happening. If the weather app you’re relying on to keep you away from danger hasn’t updated in 20-30 minutes, your location could be off by MILES and MILES while in unfamiliar territory.

FREE weather apps aren’t really free. They’re selling YOU. Free weather apps are completely UNREGULATED. Some work well, others are terrible. The consumer has no reliable source for determining what to trust. I’m a meteorologist and don’t trust any of them with my life.

Allows you to make an informed decision about whether to refuel before or after crossing state lines as state taxes make up a significant portion of each gallon of fuel you burn. Fortunately, we’ve also found a number of tricks for making planning easier, and this has meant fewer issues and a much more relaxed planning process.

The Best Trip Planning Apps

The first step when it comes to executing the perfect RV trip is tackling the planning process. Luckily, there are a number of awesome apps that can help with road trip planning. In this section, we will discuss the best apps for finding rest areas and campgrounds and planning the perfect route for your RV travels.

RV Trip Wizard

This awesome program allows you to customize your route however you see fit. It gives you the option to add truck stops, restaurants, and attractions along the way and provides detailed information on hundreds of campgrounds. It also allows you to narrow your campground search based on the memberships you have, meaning you can specify that you only want to see Good Sam parks or Thousand Trails parks.

I love that the program uses the information I put in to tally up the total cost of my trip and that my route can be exported to a GPS or Google Maps. You can combine RV Trip Wizard with the RV Life App (included in your membership), like having an RV GPS in your pocket!

Campground Views

You know when you find a campground, but you have never been to it before, so you aren’t sure what the campground will be like or look like or what site to pick?! That is where you want Campground Views . They have over 190 virtual tours, 3,123 videos, 55,005 photos and cover 16,565 parks!

This free app provides information on thousands of campsites all across the United States. From boondocking locations to full-fledged RV resorts , The Dyrt gives users a chance to read reviews written by fellow campers and leave reviews of their own.

Additionally, you can request to reserve a site from the app, making it a cinch to find camping spots.

They have a free or paid version: The Dyrt PRO camping app offers trip planning (which is awesome!), offline app access (such a great feature), downloadable maps, gear discounts, and camping discounts at hundreds of campgrounds.

Boondockers Welcome

Not an app but a website that is great for planning a unique stay on your RV trip! Boondockers Welcome is a membership site that connects you with a network of people who offer their property for you to stay at.

You can stay in someone’s driveway, farm, or property by a river or lake. And often, they offer things like ATV rides, boat rides, a chance to work on the farm, and more.

If you have an iPhone or iPad, another fabulous option for finding places to stay is the Allstaysapp . There is a yearly fee if you join AllStays Pro .

Read reviews from various locations and find the perfect campgrounds , dump stations, rest stops, and more. Filter stops by amenities and quickly check for road conditions and emergencies. Best of all, you can search while offline, meaning you can even use this app in remote locations!

Built by a full-time RVer with the help of the RV community , RV Parky claims to be home to the most complete collection of RV campgrounds out there. The app provides user reviews and photos, helping make your trip planning a bit easier.

This RV app doesn’t do as much as the ones mentioned above, but we love the simplicity of it!

Are you a loyal KOA campground user? If so, the KOA app might be the one for you.

Using this app, you can search for KOA commercial RV parks based on location/amenities/attractions, reserve a campsite, and even integrate with your favorite map app to navigate to your campground of choice. The app also provides emergency alerts and notifications about KOA deals and promotions.

Hipcamp is something like Airbnb, except for campers. It allows people with spare land to rent their space to campers, meaning a whole new world of camping opportunities for you.

The Hipcamp app allows users to easily search for and reserve Hipcamp campsites. You can read reviews, narrow your search by certain criteria, and even access certain information offline.

Harvest Hosts

Like Hipcamp, Harvest Hosts is a membership program that gives campers the chance to camp on real farms and vineyards across the United States.

While you pay a small annual membership fee to use the service, the app is free and allows you to search for and book the perfect campsite right from your phone.

The final campground finder app on our list is the Apple-exclusive Campendium app. We use this app often, especially when looking for boondocking sites across North America.

The free app provides camper-written reviews of thousands of campsites, including many we haven’t found on any other review website. Additionally, Campendium provides cell reception information, which many full-time RVers need.

Google Maps

Quite possibly, the most-used navigation app out there, Google Maps, is our go-to navigation app. We love that it gives multiple route options, and we can choose to avoid tolls. We also appreciate the street view option, which allows us to check out certain roads and parking lots to make sure they will work for our rig.

Mountain Directory

The final route planning tool that we recommend is the Mountain Directory . This also isn’t truly an app, but rather a set of two ebooks. Mountain Directory West costs $17, while Mountain Directory East costs $15.

The books provide invaluable information on mountain passes and steep grades, helping you plan the safest travel route possible. We find this tool quite useful because Google Maps doesn’t provide this information.

Weather Apps for Planning Travels

Weather apps, RV Apps that are super helpful

Weather apps can help you see what the weather will be like wherever you plan to travel. This allows you to route around a location if the weather looks bad or at least be prepared for any storms or extreme temperatures that may come your way.

These apps are also great because they will alert you of severe weather, giving you a chance to take shelter if necessary.

Accuweather

Accuweather is one of the most accurate weather apps out there, making planning that much easier. It provides information not usually found in weather apps, such as the UV index and the “RealFeel”. We also love that it provides a live weather radar and real-time alerts, which means we are always aware when severe weather is headed our way while in our RV. This is one of the best apps for RV.

The Weather Channel

Another fantastic option is The Weather Channel’s app. This app also provides weather alerts and a live radar, keeping you up-to-date in severe weather. One of the things we love most about this app is the fact that it provides Allergy Insights, meaning we know when to stay indoors to avoid allergy attacks.

Apps for Finding Activities

Of course, you’re going to want to find things to do during your RV travels. Luckily, the United States is chock-full of awesome sights to see and things to experience.

We like using the apps below to fill out our itinerary. Whether you’re hoping to take a break along your route or want to fill your days once you arrive at your destination, the RV apps listed can help you find the perfect options for your family.

Road Trippers

Road Trippers is a lot like RV Trip Wizard but with some features missing. We tend to use it to find fun things to do and see along our route. The app allows you to search along your route and has thousands of attractions saved, meaning you won’t miss any of the awesome sights as you travel.

Most RVers do some amount of hiking as they travel. After all, hiking is one of the best ways to see the national park trails and the state parks out there.

If you need a way to find the best hiking trails in the United States, AllTrails is the app for you. This app allows you to search for trails in a certain area and provides descriptions, reviews, and even difficulty ratings for each trail. They also offer offline maps so you can download the map/trail when hiking out of range!

National Parks Trail Guide

Offering complete information on the hiking trails in many of the most popular United States national parks , the National Park Trail Guide is a fantastic app. This app offers a comprehensive table of contents with maps and details to help you choose and navigate trails, and it even works offline, meaning it can be used in those more remote national park locations.

Perfect Apps to Use While Driving

Sanidumps RV Dump Station Locator

I recommend using the Sanidumps RV Dump Station Locator app to find dump stations. This app makes finding nearby dump stations a cinch. Unfortunately, it’s only available on the Google Play Store, meaning Apple users will need to find another option.

RV Dump Stations

For Apple users, I recommend the RV Dump Stations app . Unlike the Sanidumps app, this one costs a bit of money ($1, to be exact). However, we find that it is money well spent, as we can almost always find state parks, campgrounds, or truck stops that will allow us to get rid of our waste water after some time spent boondocking.

Motorhomes tend to be gas guzzlers, and trucks pulling trailers use their fair share of fuel. Save money on those countless fill-ups by using the GasBuddy app to find the closest gas stations and truck stops with the cheapest fuel prices.

One of our favorite forms of entertainment during our RV travels is audiobooks. Get access to thousands of audiobooks and find something for everyone by downloading the Audible app. You will need to pay for the books you listen to, but monthly subscriptions make this easy and painless.

Great Apps for in the Campground

Think you won’t need RV travel apps anymore once you arrive at your campground of choice? Think again! There is one app we find ourselves using in campgrounds and RV parks often, and we think you’ll love it just as much as we do.

Search by name or by location, or use the handy map feature. Park profiles include pertinent details about the amenities. Plus, you can book directly from the app or easily call the campground. In addition to trip planning features, the KOA app makes it easy to keep track of your Value Kard rewards.

Jellystone Park App

Like KOA, the Jellystone Park chain has locations across the U.S. and Canada, with over 75 locations dedicated to family fun. The Jellystone Park app helps you find campgrounds and explore which recreational opportunities are featured at each. In addition to finding parks, the Jellystone Park app is useful while you are onsite, offering campground maps, as well as activity and character appearance notifications, ensuring you don’t miss out on a moment of the fun. It also allows you to track your Club Yogi rewards and includes fun games to keep kids busy on long rides to the campground.

Campendium bills itself as being “created by campers for campers.” Campendium specializes in helping RVers find great boondocking locations, especially in western states like Colorado, Arizona, and California. In addition to listing amenities, each campground profile also includes information about cell signal availability, something today’s travelers will appreciate, especially those working or schooling from the road. Readers contribute reviews and photos, helping you get a full picture of each campground.

Roadside America

No road trip is complete without a stop at some quirky roadside attraction, like the World’s Largest Ball of Twine or the Cadillac Ranch. To find the best, check out the Roadside America app, which makes it easy to search for unique stops along your route. Even if you don’t make it to every recommendation, you can find hours of entertainment just by reading the humorous descriptions. Only one travel region is included in the initial download; in-app purchases are required for additional regions.

Roadtrippers

Roadtrippers has long been a favorite for travelers looking for amazing roadside attractions. The website has cultivated a collection of the best cultural, historic, and natural sites, each with colorful descriptions. The app offers navigation and allows you to also search for campgrounds and a variety of RV service locations. Upgrading to the Pro version gets you extra features, including the ability to save maps offline, collaboratively plan trips and avoid ad pop ups.

The RV LIFE app was designed by RVers for RVers. This app will help you research trips and plan trips and its navigation feature can be customized for your RV's height, length, and weight. The maintenance tracker is also handy and easy to use. This app's specialized RV park database is packed with all of the information you need to find your next favorite campground.

Essential Apps for RVers

Getting out in your RV is a great way to see amazing places, spend some quality time with your favorite people, and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. But as with any other travel method, there’s a lot to do and keep track of to make your trip as enjoyable as possible.

You have to find your destination, locate a campground in the area, plan your route complete with fuel/rest stops that you won’t get stuck in, figure out what you will do while there, and make sure your rig is tuned up and ready to go, among other things. Luckily, as with most things these days, there’s an app for that!

Being able to have all the details of your trip at your fingertips in your smartphone has certainly made RV travel a bit more streamlined. Over the past year that we have been traveling full time in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer , we have come to use and love several apps that make life on the road a lot easier to manage! And being completely new to RVing, we needed as much info as we could get to figure out all of the things we didn’t know about owning an RV! So, below I’ll talk about the apps for RVers we have come to love and use on a regular basis. I’ll also mention a few that we have heard of from fellow RVers that have helped them along their journey as well! So, fire up your app store and get that download button ready!

Where To Go RV Apps

Recreation.gov is a great app to have handy for anyone who loves to get out into the great outdoors. If you love exploring National Parks, backcountry camping, trekking through Public Lands, you’ll find all the info you need right here. Recreation.gov is well organized and easy to navigate. You can find up to date weather advisories, road closures, permit information, seasonal open/close dates, tours and so much more! And if you’re going to an area that requires permitted entrance, you can apply for, buy, and store your permits right in the app for easy access.

Roadtrippers is a great way to discover some off-the-beaten-path or off-the-wall places to explore! Along with well-known destinations, this app is also a treasure trove of places you may never have heard of. You’ll find everything from roadside tourist traps to little known local museums and attractions. Once you’ve determined where to go, use the routing feature in the app to set up your travel plan. It’s a great all-in-one trip planner app that makes the whole planning process a lot easier!

Where to Stay RV Apps

AllStays is the go-to app for finding places to stay because of its vast database of locations. Whether you’re looking for RV parks, National/State Park campgrounds, or boondocking sites on Public Lands, you’ll be able to find a spot on AllStays! You can even search by state, campsite type, or point of interest to really zero in on where you want to be. And an interactive map gives you quick details on each site, or more details when you click on it.

Harvest Hosts is easily one of our favorite apps when we are moving locations. We typically try to keep travel stints under 4 hours, so if we have a longer distance between destinations, we like to break the trip up into smaller legs. Harvest Hosts is perfect for this! It is a network of businesses across the country including breweries, distilleries, museums, restaurants, golf courses, farms, and more that offer members a 1-night stay on their property at no charge. Its almost always dry camping (no hookups), but all they ask is that you support the business by making a purchase while you are there. The app allows you to put your route in and search for participating businesses that are on your way. You can see photos and reviews of the different places and it’s a great way to support local/small businesses during your trip!

Free Roam is great for when we are in the mood to get off-grid and boondock for a few nights. In it you can search for all different types of campsites, but we’ve found that it excels at finding dispersed camping, Public Land sites or dry campgrounds, many of which are free. It provides details such as type of campsite, cell signal strength in the area, and proximity to water and dump stations. It also compiles stats from user reviews like noise level, cleanliness, campsite size, and other metrics to help you decide if it’s a good spot to check out. Just need an RV friendly parking lot to grab a few hours of sleep? You can find those in Free Roam too. The map is intuitive and easy to use when looking for a site which is a big plus in our book!

What to Do RV Apps

We love to go on family hikes and finding the best ones in a new area can sometimes be difficult. So, we use the AllTrails app to figure out where we want to hike during our stay. The app is full of detail and makes finding the perfect hike a breeze. The search feature has quite a few filters that let you narrow your search to exactly the type of hikes you like to do. When you find one of interest, you can read reviews of others who have hiked it, including descriptions, star ratings, photos, and date hiked. You can also create favorites lists that you can save hikes you want to do so they are easy to find again. It also has trail maps so you can track your progress, even if it takes you beyond the reach of cell service. And let’s be honest, most of the best hikes do, right?

Sometimes using an app a little differently makes it a surprise tool for another purpose. When looking for fun stuff to do, photos always make the decision easier. When you think about Instagram , you probably think of sharing pictures with your friends and family. But using the search feature and hashtag searches, Instagram becomes a great tool to find fun things to do wherever you may be! When we arrive in a new place, we throw the town name or area into an Instagram search and up pops tons of posts about places that people have explored nearby. We have found more than a few amazing experiences we didn’t know about just by searching in Instagram!

RV Maintenance Apps

When you own an RV, there is a lot to keep track of in order to keep it in good condition both for the road and for your enjoyment as your home away from home! So instead of trying to keep all the service intervals and checklists in your head or a big spreadsheet, an app like Maintain My RV really comes in handy to remind you of all the whats and whens of RV maintenance. Depending on what kind of RV you have, you can build a custom maintenance schedule that will send you email alerts to remind you of upcoming tasks. You can keep track of expenses and receipts associated with the service items, fuel economy based on several factors, and upload important documents like warranties or insurance information to have handy if needed. That’s way better than that binder overflowing with paperwork we all have somewhere in the dark recesses of our RVs.

Even though it’s kind of an all-in-one app for RVers, I put Togo RV in the maintenance section because it’s one of few out there that do include features specifically for maintaining your rig. In addition to RV navigation, search features for finding campsites and discounts on products and services, Togo RV includes a long list of RV related checklists you can choose to utilize for your trip. Everything from maintenance and service to moving day checklists are easily accessible. These lists are a great way to keep yourself organized and hopefully prevent you from forgetting something! And having them right at your fingertips in your smartphone means you’ll be more apt to use them.

Let’s be honest, what did RVers do without smart phones? When it comes to life on the road, technology helps in so many ways – not just for convenience but it can also help us stay safe, save money, and make the most of our travels. There are so many different apps out there geared towards full-time RV living, but we’ve got a list of the absolute must-haves!

Here Are 30 Apps Every RVer Should Have:

1. allstays.

This app costs you $9.99, but it offers much more than just helping you choose where to park/stay. With over 60,000 points on an interactive map, it shows you everything you’ll need on the road – gas stations, rest areas, stores, low clearance areas along the road, RV dealers, etc.

2. passport america.

Passport America is a membership that gives you 50% off nightly stays at over 1,900 quality campgrounds across the country. We are Passport America members and wrote a review with details about how we saved $700 in just 6 months…that’s a 1,420% return in investment! But this app is must for members because it makes it much quicker to find RV parks than using their website.

Ultimate Campgrounds is a great app with over 32,000 public camping locations – both formal sites and free dispersed spots! We use UC especially for finding free boondocking sites. You can get directions right to the camping spots from the app!

The iExit app tells you what’s ahead when driving on the interstate! It finds you automatically, shows you the exits ahead and what gas stations, restaurants, hotels, etc. are at that exit. This is super helpful if you are looking for a specific business (Starbucks!) or need to see where the nearest truck stop is. What makes this app even more helpful is that it is integrated with Yelp, Gas Buddy, and Travel Coupons – so it tells you the ratings of the upcoming restaurants plus gas and hotel prices!

5. Google Maps

Google Maps truly helps you navigate roads like a pro, even when you’re visiting a new city! You can easily search for businesses and tourist spots, get directions, helps you find the best route, re-routes if necessary, and even gives you real-time traffic information. Ok, we get it, you already know how great Google Maps is. But, what makes it even better for RVers is that you can see a satellite view of a business or street. This is always helpful in determining if our RV will fit in certain parking lots.

When you’re visiting an area, it’s hard to know which businesses, restaurants, shops, etc are the best! Anytime we are exploring a new city and don’t already have recommendations for the top places to go and foods to eat, we check out Yelp for reviews. You can also leave your own photos and reviews of the places you visit to help out other travelers!

7. National Parks by Chimani

This free app doesn’t require WiFi or cellular data to use, which is so important since most National Parks are dead zones! Not only does the Chimani app serve as a travel guide for your Park visits, but it is the ultimate source for information and photos of the National Park System, including national monuments, seashore, historic sites, and more. The app has a variety of other features including maps, the option to receive important notifications and updates, a badge earning system, etc. It’s truly a powerful tool to have in your pocket during your visit.

8. AllTrails

AllTrails has the largest collection of detailed, hand-curated trail maps so whrever you are exploring you can quickly find the a hike, bike ride, or trail run that’s perfect for you based on length, rating, and difficulty level. You can also add filters to find trails with certain views, or that are dog or kid friendly. The app’s GPS tracker is what makes it really awesome though – it will follow your trail so you don’t get lost, plus record your pace, distance, elevation, and max speed (then share it with friends if you’re the competitive type!).

9. BringFido

If you’re a dog lover like us, you know how important it is to find dog friendly activities and places. BringFido is the ultimate resource for finding pet-friendly hotels, businesses, attractions, and restaurants. You can also search for nearby dog parks, trails, or beaches!

10. campendium.

Campendium is our go-to app for finding the most popular spots to park our RV. When you select a destination, you can filter your results by distance, type of land, price, hookups, recreation, and discount clubs. The best part is that most RV parks have reviews and photos from fellow RVers with details about the grounds, wifi, cleanliness, noise level, etc.

11. roadtrippers.

This app is so helpful for finding historic, scenic points along your drive. But that’s not what makes it unique (because, yes Google can do that too!) – you can layer multiple categories onto your trip so you can find an RV park near a brewery, for example! Then when you find that perfect place, you can save it, get directions to it, and share it with your friends. It’s a great way to find those hidden gems in the destinations you visit!

12. Sanidumps

This app is a MUST for boondocking! Sanidumps has the “largest up-to-date RV dump station listings found anywhere”. After dry camping, you’ll need to find places nearby to empty the gray and black water holding tanks in your RV. The app lists dump station locations at campgrounds, National, State and Provincial Parks, Forest Service sites, military campgrounds, highway rest areas, truck stops, sewage treatment plants, gas stations, fair grounds, RV dealerships and many more.

13. weatherbug.

Keeping an eye on the weather while you travel is so important for your safety. We often get frustrated by inaccurate weather forecasts and have found WeatherBug to be the most trustworthy. You can also receive severe weather alerts, view live weather conditions from cameras, and visualize your weather with multiple map layers.

14. WiFi Map

Our jobs depend on us getting good internet on the road so WiFi is our best friend. We can typically get pretty good signal with our AT&T hotspot and Verizon phones, and boosting our signal with our WeBoost but sometimes we have been in a real bind! This app has a list of 100 million free WiFis with their passwords and reviews added by users.

15. Good Sam

Since we are Good Sam members, this app is also a must in order to locate campgrounds and RV parks that accept their discount. The latest version of the app also offers essential information, attractions and service centers across North America.

16. rvillage.

RVillage was built by RVers, for RVers. Designed to help you find community on the road, it’s like the RV world’s own social network! Here’s how it works: you create a profile and share your travel photos, choose to get notified when someone arrives near you, share your location on an interactive map, engage with people in feeds and private messages, search for people who have similar interests as you, and create events and get togethers!

17. RV Checklist

One of the biggest newbie mistakes we made during our first few weeks of full-time RVing was not making a checklist! This app could’ve saved us a lot of stress, repairs, and arguments! It allows you to choose a pre-populated checklists or create your own, then keep track of your tasks to ensure you are well prepared and safe on travel days!

18. gasbuddy.

You might be able to find free spots to park your RV , but you’ll never find free gas and boy, can it get expensive driving or towing an RV! GasBuddy helps you locate the gas stations with the lowest-priced gas along your route. You can filter the search results by price, location, brand, and amenities like car washes, restaurants and restrooms. And there’s more – you can get price hike alerts so you can fill up before the increase, pay with GasBuddy to earn $.05/gallon on fill ups, see and leave reviews, and more!

With an Amazon Prime Membership you get tons of benefits that help with RV life. So not only do you get free shipping and can receive packages from Amazon lockers while on the road, but you also get a variety of other perks with the membership. Some of our favorites are:

Prime Video for streaming TV and movies since we don’t have cable in the RV

Prime Photos because we take A LOT of photos on our travels so it’s nice to back them up and store them all in one place

Prime Music for all those hours of driving and losing radio signal

Prime Reading because we have no room for books and some have audio recordings so we can listen while we drive

20. Untappd

If you love beer like us then you likely check out the local breweries in every city you visit. The Untappd app helps you discover and share great beers, breweries, and venues with your friends. You earn badges (and weight…haha) for exploring beers of different styles and countries. We also love that the app lets us keep track of the beers we like because sometimes we forget (no not because we drink too many!). If you want, you can also follow your friends and see what beers they’re loving too.

21. US Public Lands

This app is a boondocker’s best toolkit- by turning on the Satellite view map, you can scout out trails, roads and boondock camping locations within the boundaries of the public land resources. This app is great to use in combination with Ultimate Campgrounds or AllStays because the boundary maps with satellite imagery allow you to scout out ahead of time.

22. state lines.

Someday’s with RV life, we forget what day it is and what state we’re in. As if that’s not confusing enough, every time we cross into a new state, we have to be mindful of it’s laws and regulations, because every state is different. This app is a traveler’s guide to highly variable state laws and regulations and contains 55 pieces of information for each of the 50 states. You’ll know every state’s specific bans, laws, state sales tax exemptions, gas/diesel taxes, time zone, towing & RV specific laws, rest area overnight parking limits, state park camping entrance fees, radar detectors, highway emergency numbers, etc. etc. etc.

23. Coverage?

This app allows you to overlay and compare cellular coverage maps for AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile. So before you travel to a new location, you can research whether or not you’ll have signal. For us, we use a combination of Verizon and AT&T so rather than looking at both of the carriers websites, we can access it in one spot with the Coverage? app. There’s also no internet needed to use the app – the coverage maps are saved for quick access!

Staying productive while working from the road is a constant challenge. Not only do we have nature calling our name everyday, we also have deadlines, virtual meetings, and work work work to finish before we can explore. The last thing we need to do is waste time on our phones. The Moment app helps you monitor your phone usage by tracking the time you spend on your phone and in apps and set daily limits on yourself. It also helps coach and train you to lower your screen time because I think we’d all be shocked to find out how many times we pick up our phone in a day! The best part about this app is that a fellow RVer and friend of ours built it and he’s awesome (and so is his app).

25. roadside america.

Sometimes the random attractions and “weird wonder’s of America” make for the best memories and adventures. The Roadside America app helps you find these quirky spots and sites that you may have otherwise never knew existed. So if you have time for a fun detour, pull out the app and see what crazy things are nearby – like the World’s Largest Pistachio Nut or the World’s Smallest Park, or perhaps the America’s Most Artistic Giant Toilet (what?). We haven’t used this app yet but you better believe we will now.

26. harvest hosts.

Harvest Hosts is a fun and unique option for short-term RV stays. With a membership, the Harvest Host website connects you to people who have large amounts of land (farms, museums, vineyards, ranches, etc.) who are willing to “host” you for free in your RV. Some even have hook ups! Harvest Hosts just requires you to support their hosts, meaning you need to purchase the host’s services, such as a bottle of wine or other products. 27. Prayerful

One of the hardest things for us living on the road full-time is that we really miss our church home. We love checking out different churches all across America, but we miss the community and fellowship. The Prayerful app helps us connect with people globally and locally through prayer. All you do is type in a quick prayer request and people can click the little prayer hands icon to tell you they are praying for you! Then you can scroll through other prayer requests and do the same. It’s a much more positive and uplifting social networking tool and you can even join their 5-day FREE prayer challenge!

28. instagram.

Okay, okay, before you roll your eyes about this app or the next one, hear us out! Instagram is not only a fun way to document and share your travel photos, but it’s actually been the number one way that we have made friends on the road. 29. Facebook

Again, we were surprised to find that Facebook has become one of our best resources for full-time RVing. Not only do we connect with other RVers, engage in various RV groups that offer tips and advice for the lifestyle, but there’s one huge benefit to using Facebook that we couldn’t RV without.

When we first purchased our Winnebago Navion, we were invited to a Facebook group for Navion owners only. Some of the members of this group have owned Navions for years and know the models inside and out. Anytime we have an issue or concern, we post it in the group and within minutes we have advice from people who have had similar issues and resolved them. We can’t even begin to tell you how helpful this group has been so we highly recommend searching for a group specific to your RV model. Just search your RV make in the search bar and see what you find!

30. Star Chart

One of our favorite things about boondocking is the star gazing. When you get away from all the city lights and find your own spot out in the middle of nature, you’re amazed when you look up! This app is like “having your own planetarium” in your pocket. When you point your phone at the sky, Star Chart will tell you exactly what you are looking at and it accurately identify over 120,000 stars! So, no more wondering if it’s a star or a planet.

RV travel is one of the best ways to get around. Add in the handy apps on our smartphones and you’ve got one of the most stress-free ways to travel! I’m sharing the best apps for RV travel to ensure you can find where to camp, where to fill up, where to go, what to do, and so much more!

What would we do without Google Maps? How in the world would we ever get around?! Apps really have changed the way we’re able to travel. Over the past year we’ve taken lots of RV trips and learned the best ways to get around. Michael and I prefer to avoid RV parks and to feel like our home on wheels has a space of its own.

RV travel takes the stress out of a trip in a big way. No longer do you need to decide on the length of your stay, cramming things into a suitcase, or where you’ll stay that night.

But what’s even easier is the apps that give you the ability to get anywhere with the confidence and safety that you know exactly what you’re getting into.

I’ve got 15 apps to help you find the best spots to camp, hike, or park your RV. These apps are what we use to find cool, hidden gems. Best of all, many of these apps are free, and if they aren't they help you find FREE places to stay! And really, they help us plan out our trip!

We've been traveling in our Flagstaff RV across the USA – from the heat of Texas to the cold of Montana and having these apps makes all the difference! After careful research we picked this travel trailer. Find out why in this post !

1. OnX – This is the best app to find public lands such as BLM (Bureau of Land Management) or national forests. This app helps you search and find properties that are open to you. We look at detailed maps to see where we can stay and get an idea of the terrain and roads to get there. This is probably our most used app. I will tell you this app is not cheap but so far it’s been very worth it for us to find free places to stay. Yes, all of these stays are FREE!

2. AllStays – A comprehensive camping app that helps you find campgrounds and free places to stay. The best part of the Allstays app is all the filters; adventurers can narrow their selections by types of camping, how much it costs, elevation, electric and water hookup availability, and even whether there is fishing, hiking, or a pool nearby.

The app will also warn you if there are tunnels or low clearance on your route. You can also access this app even when you're offline, so it helps you rest assured you're finding where to camp even if you lose signal. This app does cost money but is worth it.

3. Harvest Hosts – One of my favorite places to stay with an RV. I LOVE this concept. For one night you can stay for free at places like breweries, farms, and wineries. It’s totally free, but the idea is that you visit their shop or buy a drink. For example, when we stayed at Bragg Maple House we stayed for one night and the next morning we learned all about the maple syrup process then bought tons of maple syrup, a maple creamy (must have if you go to New England), and even purchased a t-shirt. This is a great option that RVers should fully take advantage of.

4. RV Parky -This is created by full-time RVers, and it gives tons of information while you’re on the road, finding places to stay, and more. It’s a bit clunky (or old school) but it’s a great app to find places to stay. I also mark every place we stay along the way to create a route! It’s a great way to look back at your trips or handy when you want to write a guide. It's based on personal experience so there's tons of help for not only campgrounds but gas stations, rest stops, and more.

5. Boondocking – Boondocking is the term used for camping without hookups, water or electricity. This app shows over 1,170 boondocking locations, most within the US.

6. iOverlander – This app is made up of reviews by other RVers listing directions, tips, and where to park your RV for the night. It’s a non profit and volunteer project that helps you find RV stays as well as where to fill up water, gas, and propane. I also love that the reviews tell you details about the stay which will help you judge if it’s right for you.

7. KOA – KOA’s are known as the “luxury” RV parks. That can also mean they are more expensive. But sometimes you want all the bells and whistles of an RV stay: full hookups (electricity and water), dump stations, a pool, and they’re fully staffed and usually have a separate kitchen and bathroom area. So you can save your fresh water tanks.

8. Weigh My Truck – what we used when making sure we weren’t over weight for our RV. So many people skip this step! It's so so so important to weigh your RV so you can make sure it's safe on the road. Also, CAT Scale – Places to weigh your RV. We did this when we first set out to RV. It’s really helpful to know how much weight your vehicle is towing or how much space you have — or don’t!

9. Outdoorsy – Curious about RV travel but not want to try it out? Or just need an RV a few times a year? I highly recommend Outdoorsy. Think of it like Airbnb for RVs. You can rent any type of RV, anywhere. We rented an RV for two weeks in New England and it was the best way to get around!

With Outdoorsy , you can browse RVs by location, dates, and type of RV. Similarly to Airbnb, you can find the “Instant Book” feature without even waiting to get approved. The benefit is saving money, trying out to see if the RV lifestyle is for you, and testing out all different styles of RVs.

If you're new to RVing, you can feel super secure, since Outdoorsy offers round-the-clock technical assistance. I also felt very assured as we were thoroughly walked through the RV and it's features during our rental process. You can also find nearly all types of RVs, so if you want to test drive an RV on a trip before you purchase, this would be a great option.

I highly recommend you giving Outdoorsy a try!

10. Best Hiking Apps – Komoot is Michael’s favorite app to find hiking trails. He is also an avid mountain biker so it’s great for this as well! You can plan routes and find information about hiking and biking in your area. Komoot is especially handy in Europe. In the USA we tend to use MTB Project . What's great is that you can download offline maps, so once you hit the trails you can still find out where you are, and where you need to be.

11. All Trails – This is how we find all the best hikes! It gives you more than 75,000 hiking, backpacking, and running trails around the world. You can also filter by type of trails—think dog-friendly spots or trails suitable for kids, or hiking intensity level.

12. Accuweather – to check weather in our locations and to see if storms or high winds are on the way. We never want to be towing in super high winds!

13. Co-Pilot RV – When we were RVing around New England we wanted to make sure we didn’t hit any low bridges- since those are more common there. This app was a lifesaver! Designed specifically for RV owners, CoPilot provides reliable offline navigation that calculates your route according to your vehicle size and class (heigh, weight, and length).

14. Campendium – Campendium is a great app to find campgrounds near you with user generated reviews.

15. Oh, Ranger! This app is perfect for guides to national and state parks! You’ll find all the information you need to know about activities, hiking, fishing, hunting and more. This is especially handy if you travel with your dogs, like we do. Some national parks don’t allow dogs on trails so this will help you find ones that do or give you tips along the way.

BONUS… An app for entertainment while on the road…

BONUS Audible – I love listening to books. But there’s so much more to Audible than just books. There’s lectures, podcasts, and even college courses. We pick a book for every single trip, and sometimes two books!
