City and Colour’s last studio album A Pill For Loneliness – released on Green’s Still Records, an imprint of Dine Alone Records – debuted at #1 on the Billboard Canadian Albums Chart, his 4th consecutive chart-topper in Canada. His previous #1 LP If I Should Go Before You made serious waves internationally debuting at #16 on the U.S. Billboard 200 Chart and #5 in Australia where Green’s LP Little Hell was certified GOLD. City and Colour’s new album The Love Still Held Me Near finds the songwriter revealing more of himself amidst new textures, arrangements and soundscapes not previously heard on City and Colour albums. While it was born out of navigating a trying time, it is an album of hope, redemption and inspiration, taking a trip from the emotional depths through the other side and finding a way to, as the closing track says, “Begin Again”.

City and Colour’s new live dates follows the acclaimed return of Alexisonfire last year who released their first studio album in 13 years and saw a massive sold-out tour across the UK & Mainland Europe. Known artistically as City and Colour, acoustic/folk singer Dallas Green hails from Ontario, Canada. He was also a member of the folk band Alexisonfire from 2001 to 2012.

Green has been playing guitar and writing music since he was a teen and put out free downloads of his songs on the Internet in 2004. He reworked some of the songs to form a full length album called “Sometimes” and released it under alias City and Colour (which cleverly refers to his first and last name respectively). Los Angeles based label Vagrant Records re-released the album on 13 January 2009.

Green’s sophomore album “Bring Me Your Love” was released on 12 February 2008 with a more folk sound due to additional instruments like the harmonica and the banjo played by members of the band Attack in Black. He also collaborated with Canadian singer Gordon Downie on the single “Sleeping Sickness.” The album’s name is an ode to a short story by Charles Bukowski. Green supported his album with his first tour in the U.S., opening for bands Tegan and Sara and Girl in a Coma. He also toured in the UK, supporting rock artist P!nk in 2010 performing two new singles “Silver and Gold” and “Oh Sister.”

Green’s single “Fragile Bird” from his album “Little Hell” is his highest charting single in Canada, reaching No. 1 on the alternative/rock chart in 2011. The song also received widespread attention on the Australian radio station Triple J. Green confirms Neil Young has been a major musical influence on his songwriting and musical style.

Live reviews

Dallas Green (aka City and Colour) is probably my favourite singer-songwriter still living. I was a huge fan of his former post-hardcore band Alexisonfire, for which he played guitar and provided clean vocals, and as sad as I was to see them go them separate ways, Green was always destined for greater things. His singing voice is nothing short of angelic – he has hands-down the most captivating live vocals I have ever heard. Not only does he boast a formidable range – everything from a gruff country croon to a soaring falsetto – but his ear for a melody is the most on-point since the late, great Elliott Smith. I first saw him live at The Forum in London in 2010 and his passionate delivery blew me away. His albums are predominantly made up of melodic folk, but live a fully backing band adds rock’n’roll and blues to elevate his acoustic ballads above standard singer-songwriter fare. But the time I next saw him, the following year at London’s Roundhouse, his confidence had grown so much that the show incorporated heavier guitar rock not a million miles away from Alexisonfire (or at least the their lighter side). But the moment every fan hopes for when going to a City and Colour show is when he stands solo on the stage and delivers his early, heart-on-sleeve acoustic ballads – Green’s ‘Comin’ Home’, ‘Sometimes (I Wish)’ and ‘Day Old Hate’ are incredibly rewarding to see performed in the flesh. In short: I love City and Colour.

You have to imagine there were a fair few Alexisonfire fans who got a serious shock when the band’s original singer, Dallas Green, unveiled City and Colour as his solo project. The Canadians veered between hardcore and screamo, so few of them can have reasonably expected a mellow, introspective folk rock outfit to effectively rise from their ashes. That’s precisely what Green’s been gravitating towards since, though, with four records already under his belt and a new look - glasses and a fedora - more befitting the quiet-man persona he’s embraced. On stage, flanked by a full band, Green actually keeps things fairly diverse; granted, he’s yet to be tempted to throw in any full-borne renditions of Alexisonfire classics, but he does veer between no-frills acoustic balladry - see the epic "What Makes a Man" - and Iron and Wine-esque, pseudo-country noodling. You get the impression that he’s ultimately cultivated a very different kind of fanbase to the one he was used to playing to back in his hardcore days, but what unites them is a similar level of dedication; Green’s certainly the common denominator, and perhaps you can put that down to his lyrics - when he’s performing, he’s often laying himself bare in the process.

Paradiso Amsterdam 2020-02-23. Dallas Green (City and Colour) decided to do this tour solo instead of playing with a band. The reason to do so was the sad loss of his friend and collaborator Karl ''horse'' Bareham. Most songs he did play solo while some were accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Matt Kelly on guitar, piano or pedal steel guitar. This all made it very intimate and personal, which was picked up by a warm and enthusiastic audience that helped him out by singing along. He really did touch many hearts tonight with his beautiful songs, which of course sounded different, more personal, stripped of all electric instruments and effects. It was a great concert. Impressive!

I have seen City and Colour as well as Alexisonfire many times. I have even had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Green. He is a gem with the voice of an angel. There hasn't been an artist that moved me lyrically to this degree since Joni Mitchell... circa the BLUE album. That being said...the opening acts were great...particularly Tokyo Police Club and Young the Giant. But... City and Colour was utterly fantastic...and the universe must agree there were fireworks and flights of birds that magically appeared during the performance...at least it felt like magic...heaven sent.

What an amazing City & Colour show, I'm still smiling from ear to ear! Dallas Green is an amazing musician and tonight's show was a wonderful celebration of that. The backdrop of the Buffalo waterfront made for a magical experience. The sound was incredible and his band rocked the house. The lights were another incredible addition to this year's tour. Thanks for an amazing show and a fantastic evening of live music!

Openers Young the Giant & Tokyo Police Club also put on great shows. All around a great mix of talents.

Dallas Green!! Amazing wether it’s city and colour or alexisonfire, he does not disappoint. My wife and I saw him years ago the night we Got engaged. He ended the night with the girl as his encore and played we found in each other in the dark which really hits home for us. I hope he comes back near us so we could him live again. Dallas Green live is just as if not better than on a recording. He’s the only artist that I have bought every vinyl for his music. Amazing!!!!

The best ever concert! The band were amazing, Dallas Green outstanding and the whole lighting show was truly the best I have ever seen. Lucy Rose and her band were supporting and Dallas popped out halfway through to duet with her, such a nice bloke. Fantastic venue ( The Dome Concert Hall, Brighton ) Brilliant night and can't wait til next time! City and Colour played both new and old songs and it was all superb!!!!!

City and Colour was so great that the show seemed too short. I wish there was an intermission to make it feel longer than what it seemed to me. Regardless, I was satisfied and Dallas sounded exactly the same as his recordings. I don't know any other artist that has the same voice and his writing is excellent. I'm surprised he doesn't have as many following as other group, but I'm sure that's gonna change.

This was my second show and I was not left short of having an AMAZING TIME! Dallas Green is one of the most talented musicians out there and I believe that everyone should go to at least one of his shows. He is a role model and impacts my life daily with his music and I have been a fan for almost 10 years now and I plan on attending my 3rd show this august while he performs in Denver! I cannot wait!

City and Color played a mesmerizing show at First Ave in Minneapolis. Dallas and the band played perfectly, and offered great respect to the venue, as well as thoughtful words to the First Ave team members in honoring the loss of one of their beloved friends through a dedicated song. It's not all the time that a band can come in and play as if they are right at home, but they certainly did!

City & Colour And Nathaniel Rateliff Announce 2025 Co-Headlining Tour

City & Colour have enlisted Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats for a co-headlining tour of Australia, set to take place in January 2025. It marks the first time the two bands have toured together outside of City & Colour’s native Canada, where the pair played a run of shows earlier this year. A full list of tour dates and ticketing information can be accessed below.

Both acts previously toured Australia at different junctures of 2023. City & Colour toured from late January to mid-February, performing on that year’s SummerSalt line-up alongside Angus & Julia Stone and Ben Harper . The band then performed their own headlining shows , before frontman Dallas Green joined his Alexisonfire bandmates for a run of national theatre shows with Luca Brasi .

Rateliff, meanwhile, was last seen in Australia with the Night Sweats that April, where he played a series of Bluesfest sideshows that also served as co-headliners – this time with St. Paul & The Broken Bones . The two bands teamed up for shows at the Forum Theatre in Melbourne, the Northcote Theatre and Sydney’s Enmore Theatre .

City & Colour – ‘Without Warning’

Joining the two folk-rock bands as the opening act for all dates except Perth will be Alex Lahey . The Melbourne-based indie-pop singer-songwriter will be performing alongside her full band, playing songs from her most recent studio album The Answer Is Always Yes . In Perth, opening duties will be handled by Sydney alt-country quartet Caitlin Harnett & The Pony Boys .

City & Colour continue to tour in support of their seventh studio album The Love Still Held Me Near , which was released in March of 2023. Rateliff, meanwhile, is touring in support of South Of Here – his fourth studio album with the Night Sweats, and eighth overall – which was released in June.

Legends of rock, The Darkness, have returned to bedazzle and amaze once more as they serve up their eighth studio album Dreams On Toast via Cooking Vinyl in March 2025. Pre-order the album now !

“You know that thing when God’s breath tickles your soul and tells you to create? Yeah, makes me giggle too. But you can’t resist,” comments frontman Justin Hawkins. “God might not be the power she once was, but say what you like about her, she knows damn well that what the world needs now, is rock sweet rock. And who are we, mere mortals of extraordinary ability, to argue with the divine?

“So we knuckled down and thought really hard about the best of the best, the elite songs, the life-changing music of the ages. Then we popped out a dozen bangers before lunch. And these bangers we present to you here, wallowing in an aromatic aural ragu, served atop the charred remains of our envious contemporaries… ladies and gentlemen, I give you Dreams On Toast!”

‘THE LONGEST KISS’

BRAND NEW SINGLE OUT NOW

LISTEN HERE

A lavish display of sonic delicacies,  Dreams On Toast  is a dynamic dish packed full of sure-to-be hits. This is no better demonstrated than with lead single ‘The Longest Kiss’ out today (September 18 th ). An upbeat pop classic which tips its hat to the ’70s pop genius of both Queen and Paul McCartney, it finds The Darkness dance across jaunty piano keys and frolicking guitar licks in irresistible top form.

Stream ‘The Longest Kiss’ here: https://TheDarkness.lnk.to/tlkPR

Justin explains, “ Misty Orchards! That’s not my porn name, that’s the kind of scenery that I love. I awakened to such a vista in the delightful Scottish highland town of Nairn on the morning that inspiration for ‘The Longest Kiss’ lyric struck. I was bleary eyed and locked in an unending embrace with my (mid)life partner. Weird that I can still sing, but that’s a testament to the resilience of humans, especially lead singers.

The music itself is a piano-led composition, the chorus of which my brother and I came up with after he’d taken a long time to empty his bladder during some impressive pub endurance. The verses were transposed from a song I’ve been working on for decades as part of a musical about the collapse of the Lowestoft fishing industry, called ‘The Collapse Of The Lowestoft Fishing Industry’.

The musical isn’t finished yet. But ‘The Longest Kiss’ is. The results are astounding. We’re all very proud of this. Please, to enjoy!”

Dreams On Toast album artwork designed by Grammy winning artist Perry Shall

Not only will  Dreams On Toast feature arguably their best collection of songs yet, but The Darkness will also be hitting the road next March for their largest headline tour of the UK in years, solidifying their status as one of Britain, and indeed the world’s, most important rock bands.

The Dreams On Toast UK headline tour will see them play 17 shows across the country finishing at London’s OVO Wembley Arena on March 29 th . Support comes from Northern Irish indie-rock heroes Ash, who first supported The Darkness on their legendary ‘Permission To Land Tour’ over 20 years ago.

Lead singer of Ash, Tim Wheeler, comments, “In 2004 we toured the UK’s arenas with The Darkness as ‘Permission to Land’ catapulted them into the big league. Next March, 21 years later, we will reunite to tear across Britain before an epic crescendo at Wembley Arena. We believe in a thing called Rock!”

More than 20 years after The Darkness exploded with the big bang that changed the face of British rock music, their cheeky, spandex-clad anthems continue to capture hearts, and a new generation of fans, around the world. None more so than Taylor Swift who sparked yet another internet meltdown last week by singing along with the band’s eternal mega-hit ‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love’ at the US Open. As a result her legions of fans sent the track hurtling up charts across the world, including reaching Number 1 in the US iTunes Rock Chart, 21 years after its release.

And now with Dreams On Toast The Darkness deliver another triumphant collection of solid gold rock bangers and heart exploding concerts in March 2025.

Inter Milan star Hakan Calhanoglu takes swipe at ‘very quiet’ Etihad after Manchester City stalemate

author image

Inter Milan star Hakan Calhanoglu

Hakan Calhanoglu says he was surprised by the ‘very quiet’ atmosphere at the Etihad and Inter Milan would have beaten Manchester City had the Champions League match taken place at the San Siro.

City’s European campaign got off to a frustrating start as they were held to a goalless draw by Simone Inzaghi’s impressive Inter side on Wednesday evening.

Phil Foden had a shot denied by Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer after coming off the bench and Ilkay Gundogan squandered two golden chances to make the breakthrough in the closing stages.

Remarkably, it was the first time in 40 home games that City had failed to find the back of the net in the Champions League and Pep Guardiola ’s men will be desperate to return to winning ways against Slovan Bratislava on October 1.

City’s disappointment was compounded by Kevin De Bruyne’s enforced substitution through injury at the halfway stage, which comes as a major concern ahead of the side’s clash with Premier League title rivals Arsenal this weekend.

Inter head coach Inzaghi was pleased to return to Italy with a draw and praised his players’ display against the English champions, who had won four games straight heading into the contest.

Calhanoglu, though, felt Inter could have come away from the match with all three points on another day and took aim at City fans for failing to create an atmosphere to fit the occasion.

Ilkay Gundogan

‘I think everyone was expecting a very warm atmosphere but the fans were very quiet,’ the Inter midfielder told reporters after the sides’ stalemate.

‘If we had been at San Siro we could have won, with an atmosphere like this we expected more.

We played a good game against a strong team. We tried everything, had chances to score, a lot of chances, and both teams today showed all the people around some good football.’

The reigning Serie A champions were determined to enter the match without fear despite City’s astonishing record at home in recent years.

‘We wanted to show that we are not scared to play here. We play football the way they do, with sacrifice we showed that we can also play football,’ the Turkey international added.

‘We know that Manchester City never lose here at home and we took a point with us. We want to continue like this, proving who Inter are

‘We try, we’re taking it one step at a time and our first step was against one of the best teams in the world, so we are happy.’
