Coldplay famously declined to tour in support of Everyday Life for environmental reasons. For example, there have been solar panels and wind turbines at every venue to help power the shows.

Recent tour reviews
I had always heard Coldplay were a fantastic band to see live. They did not disappoint last night at Fedex Field, right in the midst of their joyous and decidedly over-the-top Head Full of Dreams tour.
The show began with an explosion of color and light (including the LED wristbands supplied to every concertgoer) in the titular track on the band's touring album. Then came fan-favorite "Yellow," followed by "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall," the ever-popular "The Scientist," and "Birds" (the latter was a bit of a personal disappointment as it replaced the brilliant "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face" from recent setlists). This part of the show finished with the anthem "Paradise," featuring an incredible remix outro.
Next the show slowed down for an intimate trio of songs (most of us actually took a seat). This included one of the better tracks from the sub-par "Ghost Stories", "Magic."
Soon, however, things picked up with the timeless piano strokes of "Clocks," themed to a magical red light show. Next came the lighthearted "Charlie Brown." Before it began, lead singer Chris Martin asked everyone to put away their phones and simply enjoy the show. This was followed by the radio hit "Hymn for the Weekend," a candlelit (okay...Iphone flashlight lit) "Fix You," and "Viva la Vida." This last one was remarkable, as nearly the entire stadium knew the lyrics and sang along to the triumphant "Oh-oh-ohhhh" chant. The groovy "Adventure of a Lifetime" finished off this section, featuring Chris gettin' down with the audience, asking everyone to "Get low!"
Then came the highlight of the night for me: an acoustic quad of older (*cough* better *cough*) Coldplay songs which were as intimate as they were nostalgic. The lovely riffs of "In my Place" started off the set. "Don't Panic" was sung by drummer Will Champion; it's one of my favorites. But it couldn't top what was (for me) the best song of the night: "Trouble." Somber but beautiful in its own way, "Trouble" is a rare find in the setlists of today's Coldplay and was absolutely fantastic. Finally came another rare gem: "Green Eyes," which was somewhat marred by Chris's well-intentioned attempt at giving the local Redskins some luck (HA! what folly) by changing the lyrics.
The finale of the show was the hopeful and popular trio of "Something Just like This," "A Sky Full of Stars," and "Up and Up." This last track was played against the backdrop of the magical and visually stunning music video for the song.
And if there were two adjectives to sum up the show as a whole, they would be just that: magical and visually stunning. Thanks for an awesome show, Coldplay!

First of all I need to just say wow! Wow! Yesterday I experienced one of the greatest nights of my life. Yesterday I really did feel like I was part of something special, something so big and beautiful. The love, the happiness and the excaitment people were feeling last night were something you can't put words on. We stood in the rain for so many hours, we sat in a que and then we stood in the rain again.. but let me just say that when Coldplay came on stage they put on the best god damn show ever. You could really feel their thankfulness during the show. They promised us (in Chris Martins own words) "The best fucking show ever" and let me tell you it was! During the night I got to experience people from different countries dancing and singing along together, I got to experience that moment when Chris decided to write a new song about Sweden and Gothenburg! The night was amazing in so many ways. And just as he said during the night, that he believes when people are working together and last night everybody in that arena stood together. We celebrated the music, the evening and most of all we celebrated the love. Because in the end of the day Love is what matters and it will always win.
Yesterday was beautiful, just pure beautiful!
A Coldplay concert is a real face to face experience for a someone who love their songs. It may not be an intimate experience but considering the legions of fans that they have only a concert can accommodate everyone who are waiting all their lives for a chance to hear them live. and they never disappoint. A total performance complete with lasers and light and firework BUT without much fanfare, just them singing & playing their hearts OUT song after song alone or in harmony with the fans some crying, most gleefully dancing to their upbeat song or swaying OR slow dancing to slow Fix You or Yellow and probably thinking of someone they "cannot replace". Chris Martin is an awesome guy and so are the rest of the band. May their personal lives be as awesome as their professional lives, they deserve that too. as to Singapore, it may not be as engaging as it would be in the Philippines but hey, no one can complain; i had the best time celebrating my birthday in one of the best stadium this side of town with around 50K Coldpay fans celebrating with me :) :). Long live Coldplay, may you continue to bring joy to you fans worldwide. Looking forward to another Coldplay concert experience in the future.

Beyond the chart triumph on July’s Boxscore report, Coldplay’s tour has now reached record-breaking heights. Since its kick-off in March 2022, it has eclipsed $1 billion in concert grosses and sold almost 9.3 million tickets through Aug. 25. That makes it the highest grossing and bestselling rock tour in Boxscore history, surpassing Elton John in the former metric and U2 in the latter.
Four dates remain to be reported in Dublin, plus 11 in Oceania later this fall. Having averaged more than 50,000 tickets on all nine legs of the world tour so far, it’s likely that the Music of the Spheres World Tour will surpass 10 million tickets.
The $1 billion gross and 10 million ticket thresholds are both unprecedented in Boxscore’s almost 40-year history. The obvious asterisk is unreported figures for Taylor Swift ’s ongoing The Eras Tour, likely closer to $2 billion than one now that its own 48-date European leg has wrapped, and approaching 10 million tickets itself.
Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band are No. 2 on July’s Top Tours ranking, pulling in $65.4 million from 500,000 tickets over nine shows. The Boss also earns his chart rank from shows in Europe, specifically playing in Belgium, Denmark, Germany and others, before closing out the run with two shows at London’s Wembley Stadium.
Springsteen’s London dates grossed $25.2 million and sold 154,000 tickets, mirroring his No. 2 rank over on Top Boxscores. A double header at Friends Arena in Solna, Sweden followed with $9.7 million and 108,000 tickets, landing further down the list at No. 23.
Since kicking off in May, the ’24 European leg of Springsteen’s tour brought in $158.5 million and sold more than 1.2 million tickets over 22 concerts. Though he has wrapped overseas, The Boss made his way over the pond, launching another leg of U.S. shows last week and ensuring a return on the August recap.
Europe fills out the top four spots, with Travis Scott and P!nk at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively. It was the first extended European tour for Scott, who was met with a well of pent-up demand. From June 28 through Aug. 4, he grossed $58.9 million and sold 520,000 tickets in the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Portugal, and more. It’s the most that a solo rapper has earned on tour outside of the United States.
Combined with the North American shows from autumn 2023 and winter 2024, the Utopia Circus Maximus Tour has brought in $154.7 million and sold 1.2 million tickets over 63 shows. Scott has a slate of shows in Latin America and Oceania before closing for good on Halloween in Auckland, New Zealand.
For P!nk’s part, the Summer Carnival Tour continued with a second leg of European stadiums. Reaching a monthly high at Amsterdam’s Johan Cruyff Arena, she totaled $46.8 million and 377,000 tickets during July. Since its launch last June, the entire tour has grossed $469.3 million and sold 3.6 million tickets – not including the Trustfall Tour, which interrupted the stadium run with a swing of North American arenas, adding $60.8 million and 257,000 tickets to Pink’s enormous post-pandemic return to the stage.
On Top Boxscores, Europe takes up the top six spots with engagements from Karol G and Metallica in addition to Coldplay and Springsteen. There’s two more in the top 10 ( Luis Miguel and P!nk), and eight more on the chart, including The Killers with six shows at London’s O2 Arena and Ed Sheeran at Polsat Plus Arena in Gdansk, Poland.
On Top Stadiums, European venues make up seven of the 10 spots, including the entire top five. Madrid’s Estadio Santiago Bernabeu rules with $37.2 million and 309,000 tickets, thanks to two shows from Luis Miguel ($13.6 million on July 6-7) and four from Karol G ($23.6 million on July 20-23). The latter closed out her yearlong world tour at the chart-topping stadium, re-setting her own records among women in Latin music.
Stateside, Las Vegas dominates the biggest and smallest venue charts. Sphere is No. 1 among rooms with a capacity of 15,001 or more (excluding stadiums), while the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas is tops among venues with a cap of 2,500 or less.
A version of this story appears in the Aug. 31, 2024, issue of Billboard.

Watch: Coldplay bring out Aslan for stunning Croke Park tribute to Christy Dignam
Coldplay brought out Aslan for an emotional Croke Park tribute to the late Christy Dignam on Sunday night, leaving fans emotional by the gesture.
Beloved Aslan frontman Christy passed away in June last year at the age of 63 after a lengthy battle with cancer, leaving his family, bandmates and fans devastated.
Today's top videos
Story continues below.
The Dublin band have continued to perform in the wake of Christy’s passing, with Lee Tomkins joining the group as their new lead singer back in February.
Playing at the home of GAA for the third time in four days, with their final Dublin gig to take place on Monday night, Chris Martin welcomed ‘the band who have had to turn a new page’.
Forming a circle in the centre of the stage towards the end of the concert, the two bands performed a heartfelt version of Aslan’s biggest hit Crazy World, initially released in the summer of 1993, to over 80,000 people.
Those who attended the sold-out gig in the Irish capital rushed to social media platform Twitter, now known as X, to share videos of the special moment and pay their respects to Christy.
One person said: ‘Coldplay just brought Aslan on stage. 82,000 people singing crazy world is magical. RIP Cristy.’
Another added: ‘This was very special. @coldplay and #Aslan singing #CrazyWorld together. I’m sure Christy is well chuffed – may he rest in power.’
While someone wrote: ‘The last time I saw Coldplay was at Oxegen 2011, when they brought out Christy Moore and I thought nothing could top that until tonight when they brought out Aslan. RIP Christy Dignam.’

‘They had Croke Park absolutely lit up, bringing Aslan on stage was pretty cool too. Great night.’
While there was no major surprise appearances on Friday night, Thursday’s opening show saw Burna Boy, Little Simz, Elyanna and Argentinian artist Tini come out to sing Coldplay’s new single We Pray.

Ukraine war latest: Iran transfers 'more than 200 missiles' to Russia; Putin 'cocky and smug', says CIA chief
The US has warned of "dramatic" Iranian escalation - after reports emerged that short-range missiles had been sent from Tehran to Moscow. Putin was branded both "cocky" and "smug" by the CIA director during a joint security conference with the head of MI6.

We're pausing our live coverage - thanks for following along.
We've spent much of the day discussing Iranian-Russian relations - with Sky News being told by a Ukrainian source that hundreds of short-range ballistic missiles have arrived in Russia from Iran.
Kyiv expressed concerns - just a day after Volodymyr Zelenskyy renewed calls for the West to supply Ukraine with weapons that could strike airfields on Russian soil.
On the battlefield, Moscow reported further advances in the east of Ukraine, while Kyiv continues to hold a significant portion of the Kursk region in Russia
We'll be back tomorrow with more updates on the Ukraine war.
Funerals for those killed in a massive Russian attack on a military academy in Poltava have taken place today.
More than 50 people were killed in Tuesday's attack, which the country's first lady described as a "stunning tragedy for all of Ukraine".
Russia's defence ministry said the strike targeted soldiers and foreign instructors.
Iran's alleged supply of ballistic missiles to Russia is worrying, our military analyst Sean Bell says.
Bell says Russia "tends to use older weapons" but unlike Ukraine it "has the volume".
"Both sides are struggling for weapons and at the moment Russia has ramped up its domestic production but it desperately needs weapons from Iran and North Korea," he says.
The delivery reportedly contains short-range ballistic missiles.
"They will give Russia more volume of missiles but it will also mean Russia's limited supply of its own Iskander missiles can now be focused on long range targets - that's very worrying," he says.
"We [also] understand that Russian soldiers have been in Iran doing training for the last few weeks."
Speaking on the UK's announcement yesterday that it will supply more than 650 missiles to Ukraine, the military expert says the challenge will be the need for caution about providing the war-torn country with the most modern weapons in case they fall into Russian hands.
He adds: "Ukraine desperately needs that technology and volume, so that's the big challenge at the moment."
More from the directors of the CIA and MI6, who were speaking at the FT weekend festival earlier today.
During the event, Bill Burns discussed the prospect of nuclear war erupting at the start of the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
Speaking alongside the head of MI6 he said: "There was a moment in the fall of 2022 when I think there was a genuine risk of a potential use of tactical nuclear weapons.
"The [US] president sent me to talk to our Russian counterpart, Sergei Naryshkin, at the end of 2022 to make very clear what the consequences of that kind of escalation would be," he added.
"I don't think we can afford to be intimidated by that sabre-rattling or bullying [but] we've got to be mindful of it."
Russia has frequently threatened nuclear war since the start of the conflict in February 2022.
By Deborah Haynes , security and defence editor
Iran has transferred short-range ballistic missiles to Russia for its war in Ukraine, a Ukrainian source has told Sky News.
The move - reportedly involving more than 200 missiles - would mark a significant ramping up of Iranian military support to Moscow, if confirmed.
Bill Burns, the director of the CIA, was asked about the claim when he appeared at an event in London with his British counterpart, Sir Richard Moore, the head of MI6.
He did not confirm the allegation, but said: "Should Iran ship ballistic missiles... it would be a dramatic escalation of the nature of the defence partnership."
The Ukrainian source said a Russian ship delivered the Fatah-360 missiles - each with a range of more than 70 miles - to a Russian port in the Caspian Sea.
It's anticipated that the munitions will now undergo tests.
The Russian military will then conduct training on them - before they are launched against Ukraine.
Iran has long been feared of having supplied ballistic missiles to Russia.
The Iranian regime has already supplied large quantities of attack drones as well as artillery shells and ammunition, helping to bolster Russian firepower on the battlefield to devastating effect.
Ukrainian drones hit a munitions depot in the Russian region of Voronezh overnight, a Ukrainian security source has told the Reuters news agency.
The attack, which took place last night, was on what Ukraine believed to be a depot used to transfer weapons and ammunition to Ukraine.
You can see the Voronezh region highlighted on this map - bordering both the Belgorod and Kursk regions.
"At this moment, there are still four pockets of a powerful fire observed at the site, as well as the unceasing detonation of munitions," the source said, adding that the attack was carried out by the Ukrainian SBU security service.
Alexander Gusev, the Russian governor, said this morning "explosive objects" had detonated after a fire in the region's Ostorogozhsky district.
He said there had been no casualties, but that a state of emergency had been declared locally, with several hundred people evacuated and a major road closed.
Our security and defence editor Deborah Haynes was there for us - and noted one particularly interesting part of the discussion between Sir Richard Moore and Bill Burns...
Vladimir Putin was branded both "cocky" and "smug" by the CIA director during a joint security conference with the head of MI6 run by the Financial Times.
You can watch Bill Burns and Sir Richard Moore discuss the Russian president here...
Ukraine's foreign ministry has expressed concern over reports that Iranian short-range ballistic missiles have been transferred to Russia.
In a statement sent to journalists, the ministry said the deepening military co-operation between Tehran and Moscow was a threat to Ukraine, Europe and the Middle East.
It also called on the international community to increase pressure on the two countries.
CNN and the Wall Street Journal both reported yesterday that Iran had already transferred missiles to Russia, citing unidentified sources, although how many was not yet clear.
However, Reuters reporting from August suggested that Russia was expecting "hundreds" of the Fath-360 close-range ballistic missiles - and that Russian military personnel were being trained inside Iran on how to use them.
Earlier this morning, we reported that the US would view this move as dramatically escalatory (see 8.12am post).

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said yesterday Ukraine now controls more than 1,300sq km in the Kursk region.
The Ukrainian president also suggested that the invasion has resulted in about 6,000 casualties among Russian forces so far.
But how has that impacted the war inside Ukraine?
Analysts have suggested that Russia has moved some troops from the frontlines, but has not committed the crack forces required to throw Ukraine off its soil thus far.
Ukraine's top military commander Oleksandr Syrskyi told CNN that the operation in the Kursk region was working and that there had been no Russian advances on a key sector of the eastern front inside Ukraine for six days.
"Over the last six days, the enemy hasn't advanced a single metre in the Pokrovsk direction. In other words, our strategy is working," he said.
Mr Syrskyi said the military had also noted a decrease in shelling and the intensity of the Russian offensive in other sectors.
'Significant tactical achievement'
Speaking at a joint security conference with the head of MI6, CIA chief Bill Burns said the invasion marks a "significant tactical achievement".
However, MI6 boss Richard Moore said it was too soon to say how soon Kyiv could hold the territory.
The national picture...
When it comes to the national picture, Russia is pressing on with its goal to take over the east of the country.
They are slowly inching forward towards the city of Pokrovsk - just northwest of Donetsk - which provides critical rail and supply links for the Ukrainian army.
Losing the city could put additional Ukrainian cities at risk.
This morning, Russia's defence ministry claimed Moscow's troops have claimed the village of Kalynove -just lies southeast of Pokrovsk.
