I have a 2001 ford Taurus SES Cruise Control does not seem to turn on anymore. I checked the fuse number 17 under dash. The park/brake light relay was just replaced. I do not see anything disconnected.  

Check vacuum lines for any leaks. I had one on my '99 that wasn't bad, as it would disengage cruise control after going over a bump on the highway!  

They don't use vacuum lines for the speed control any more. Does the horn work? If not then the problem is probably the contacts in the steering wheel. Here's the self test you can try. Inspection and Verification Verify the customer's concern by operating speed control system to duplicate the condition. Inspect to determine if one of the following mechanical or electrical concerns apply: VISUAL INSPECTION CHART Inspect and verify that: Mechanical Actuator cable is adjusted properly without holding the throttle open or increasing idle speed. Throttle linkage operates freely and smoothly when connected to the actuator cable and speed control servo. Electrical Verify proper horn operation Verify stoplamp operation Check circuit fuses: Fuse Junction Panel Fuse 28 (15A) Fuse 6 (15A) Speed Control Indicator Bulb Inspect and verify that: Connections are complete with no loose wires or terminals. Wiring is not broken, shorted or corroded. Wiring is not misrouted. If inspection reveals obvious concern(s) that can be readily identified, repair as required. Perform the Self-Test Diagnostics. Self-Test Diagnostics WARNING: THIS TEST IS A KEY ON ENGINE OFF (KOEO) TEST ONLY THAT IS CONDUCTED IN PARK ONLY WITH EMERGENCY BRAKE FULLY ENGAGED. Enter Self-Test Diagnostics by depressing the speed control OFF switch while turning the ignition key ON, ensuring engine does not start and is not running. The speed control indicator on the instrument panel will flash once to indicate that speed control module entered the diagnostic mode. Five additional flashes at this point indicate a defective speed control servo. Release the OFF switch. Press the remaining switches in this sequence: ON, RESUME, COAST, and SET/ACCEL. IF ON, RESUME, COAST, AND SET/ACCEL SWITCHES ARE NOT DEPRESSED WITHIN 5 SECONDS AFTER ENTERING THE DIAGNOSTICS MODE, THE MODULE TIMES OUT AND THE PROCEDURE MUST BE STARTED OVER. The speed control indicator lamp will flash as each switch is depressed. Press each switch in the sequence immediately after the indicator light goes out for the previous switch. A lamp flash with the last button (SET/ACCEL) indicates that the STATIC test passed. If the lamp does not flash with the last button and there are no additional flashes of the lamp, the switch is defective. If the lamp does not flash with the last button, and additional flashes occur, follow the chart below for trouble codes: 2 Flashes - BPP defective, circuit is defective, brake applied. 3 Flashes - Deactivator switch is open or circuit defective. 4 Flashes - Vehicle speed out of range. Immediately after the static test has passed, the speed control servo will then perform a dynamic test automatically by actuating the throttle lever from 1 mm to 10 mm of travel from the idle position. During the dynamic throttle pull, observe throttle movement to witness any binding or sticking of actuator cable, proper connection of actuator cable to throttle lever, and ensure throttle returns back to idle position. If improper connection and/or binding or sticking of actuator is observed, go to Symptom Chart. Return ignition switch to the OFF position and proceed to Symptom Chart.  

The horn does work. I will be checking the information I was given so far. I will run the self test. Thank you for your help so far.  

I ran the test and it looks like two flashes maybe 3. Where is the Deactivator switch or BPP located? I can not find them in the manual I have.  

They are on the brake pedal linkage.  

Hello! I have the same problem with my cruise not working, so I will take this very complete list outside with me and see what I can see. One question--on mine, the cruise control indicator light comes on when engaged, as if it is actually working, but when the gas is released, the car decelerates. Does the lights coming on preclude the possibility of bad contacts in the steering wheel? Thanks  

Maybe. It means you have power into the steering wheel on the CC circuit and a signal as an input into the speed control module. The SCM turns on the light. Either the SCM is not putting out an output for the servo motor. I would check the connector first. Follow the two throttle cables back away from the TB and one goes to the firewall and the other goes to the SCM.  

Um..well, I hate to sound like a GIRL, but I am...a girl that is. Sigh. TB? I assume not tuberculosis. I know that I need to go into the mechanic and have this stuff looked at and worked on, but I like to have a general idea what is wrong so as to sound like I know whatthehecktheyaretalkingabout so as not to be cheated utterly. I was widowed awhile back, and my husband always took care of this stuff so I don't know a heck of a lot. Though I am learning! I also kind of get a kick out of doing things that I am capable of doing. I also have access to a decent auto repair database through the public library, and if I understand enough about the generalities I am able to query the datebase, which sometimes has PICTURES! I have been able to fix the occasional item or two--like replacing the hose assembly for the radiator one time. I also am very good at listening when the car guys tell me that it is beyond my abilities and to just take it in. I will look this up in the repair database and see if I can find a schematic. Or I suppose I could wander over to the other side of the library and see if I can find a Chilton's manual for this year car. Thanks so much for your time!  

What year is your car? TB= throttle body  

THanks, throttle body indeed. My car is a 2000 Mercury Sable LS Premium; the engine is the 24 valve dohc, the bigger of the two engines for this car. I have had it since it was new, poor thing. It now has 201k+ and the engine still runs strong.  

The cruise control cable could be broke or off the linkage itself. The module is on the drivers side inner strut tower.  

They don't use contacts anymore, They use a clock spring.  

Hey all, I found this thread while searching. The cruise on my 96 stopped working and I was wondering if this self test is the same for the 96. Can anyone helpa bruthu out?  

i have a 2004 Taurus the cruise control does not work I have replaced the cruise servo, the CC buttons on both sides of the steering wheel all fuses are good I have tried that test and I get nothing I need help:angry:

Cruise Missiles in the Crossfire - Germany's Dangerous Game with Moscow and Ukraine

What is the status of taurus deliveries to ukraine.

F or over eight months, the delivery of German Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine has been under negotiation. Although many members of the Bundestag, including prominent politicians from the traffic light coalition government, have spoken out in favor of the delivery, the Chancellor remains stoic. He is not considering a delivery of the Taurus to Ukraine for the time being.

The reasons for this are unclear, as the Chancellor has so far avoided taking a clear stance and justifying his position publicly.

In essence, Germany would only be aligning itself with other European partner nations in the event of a delivery. France and the United Kingdom have been delivering cruise missiles to Ukraine since May 2023. It should also be noted that Russia has been receiving missile deliveries from Iran and North Korea for several weeks. In any case, this means that the delivery of German cruise missile systems would not constitute an escalation in itself.

How does Taurus differ from the Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG cruise missile already in use in Ukraine?

The Taurus cruise missile is comparable to the British-French Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG cruise missile, which Ukraine is already using. Both cruise missile systems have a range of over 300 miles, carry a powerful 990-pound penetration warhead designed to destroy hardened targets, and can combat enemy targets with very high accuracy.

However, Taurus is technologically somewhat superior to the Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG. Taurus has additional "stealth" features, which theoretically make it more difficult to intercept the cruise missile. Furthermore, the warhead of the Taurus is equipped with an improved igniter, which allows the cruise missile to destroy complex targets such as bridges with a higher probability.

Nonetheless, it should be noted that there is essentially no military relevant mission in Ukraine that would necessitate the Taurus. The capability profile of the Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG is largely sufficient in this respect. This is also a reason why Taurus deliveries should not be considered as escalating.

Why are Taurus deliveries so urgently necessary then?

However, there is a major problem: without further deliveries, Ukraine's cruise missile stockpile will run out in the medium to long term.

France and the United Kingdom have delivered about 400-600 Storm Shadow-SCALP-EG cruise missiles to Ukraine over the past eight months. Assuming a rate of 30-50 cruise missiles per month, without further resupply, Ukraine's cruise missile arsenal will run low by the end of the year. Of course, Ukraine can further reduce the consumption rate to increase the sustainability of the arsenal. However, the effectiveness of the cruise missile strikes decreases rapidly with the reduction of the usage rate.

France and the United Kingdom have donated between 20% and 50% of their cruise missile arsenals to Ukraine. These countries are therefore not prepared to deliver further significant cruise missile stocks, as it would undermine their own defense capability in the event of war.

Apart from these two countries, Germany is the only country in Europe that has sufficiently large stocks of cruise missiles to be able to donate a portion to Ukraine without endangering its own capability. Therefore, when it comes to maintaining Ukraine's cruise missile stocks in the medium to long term, Taurus deliveries are essential.

Why non-delivery is sending disastrous signals to Russia

Apart from the catastrophic military implications that non-delivery could have for Ukraine, Germany's restraint is also sending disastrous political signals to Moscow.

This shows Germany's vulnerability to Russian blackmail, which will encourage Russia to commit further atrocities in Ukraine and future attempts at extortion.

Russia has shown several times that it is not willing to reciprocate the West's hesitant attitude. On the contrary: the less determination the West shows, the more likely an escalation from Russia becomes.

In view of the Taurus deliveries, it is no longer just about maintaining military capabilities. The Taurus has become a symbol of German cowardice and susceptibility to blackmail by Russia through a Chancellor who does not seem to recognize the urgency of the situation.

This harbors significant dangers for Germany and NATO. Mental images and perceptions of a weak NATO could ultimately encourage Putin to provoke a conflict with NATO. Therefore, the German government must urgently get the Taurus deliveries on track – for our own security as well as for the support of Ukraine.
