Our Queenstown based fishing trips are operated by registered fishing guide Queenstown Fishing Charters , who has over 20 years fishing experience.

Our boat, the “Chinook” is a new 34-foot high-speed purpose built boat and is fully enclosed for all weather.

It is fitted with a private electric flush toilet and heaters.

“Chinook” is registered under the Marine Safety Authority, and carries a complete range of safety equipment.

All fishing equipment is supplied and is of top quality. The target fish species are Salmon, Rainbow and Brown Trout.

Do I need to be an experienced angler to do a Queenstown fishing trip?

No, you do not need to have prior fishing experience to do a Queenstown fishing tour. Inexperienced or first time anglers are best to book a 3-4 hour lake trolling fishing experience with Stu Dever . If you are inexperienced and want to give fly fishing a go in Queenstown then you can book a fly fishing guide with River Talk and you'll get one on one tuition.

Are fishing tours available all year in Queenstown?

Yes you can absolutely fish all year in Queenstown, even in winter. Even though Queenstown is in the Southern Alps of the south island of New Zealand and does get below freezing in winter, there are plenty of clear, crisp, blue sky perfect fishing days. 

Does fishing operate in all weather in Queenstown?

Fishing is a weather dependent activity and if its really nasty out there, raining hard or super windy then your guide will recommend you reschedule to another day so its more enjoyable for all. If you cannot reschedule then you will be eligible for a full refund.

Do you need a licence to fish in Queenstown?

Yes, in order to fish in the waterways in Queenstown, Glenorchy and the southern lakes region you need a government issued fishing licence. You can get a 24 hour fishing licence or one for the entire year and they are not expensive. If you book a guided fishing tour then the fishing licence is part of the cost you will pay.

Where do Queenstown fishing tours take place?

If you book the lake trolling fishing experience with Stu Dever then you will board the fishing boat at one of the main jetties on the Queenstown lakefront right near the centre of town. You will then be taken out on the boat by the skipper and crew to a secret fishing spot somewhere on the other side of the lake. If you book a fly fishing tour then your guide will pick you up from your Queenstown accommodation and take you by vehicle to a special fly fishing location often near the small township of Glenorchy located about an hour drive from Queenstown.
