star trek kanar recipe

I just tried coming up with a recipe for kanar and took a different route than using things that are normally pleasant in a drink. Here's what I did: 1 tablespoon molasses 1 tablespoon syrup 1 tablespoon vodka 1/2 tablespoon worcestershire sauce Now, the vodka should probably be substituted for something a little darker and more rich like Captain Morgan 100 proof (I'm not exactly stocked up right now), but I think I've nailed the drink for the most part. It is palatable, but would take some getting used to just like Glinn Daro said.

http://karosyrup.com/ According to an interview with Casey Biggs (Damar), Karo syrup was used for brown kanar to create the effect of a dark, thick liquid, which he actually drank. Property Master Joe Longo joked in an issue of Star Trek: The Magazine (Issue 4) that "... he was drinking so much he was getting weird, so we started using a thickened sugar-free pancake syrup."

maybe you should try and make a drink with it almaretto butter schotch or something?

They say it takes some getting used to - Why not use Salmari (Finnish licorice vodka) as a base?

KANAR SAZERAC COCKTAIL RECIPE

  • Fernet-Branca liqueur
  • kanar sazerac

A Star Trek inspired cocktail in honor of our new Star Trek launch, the Kanar Sazerac. This recipe is curated from  Liquor.com.

Cardassians seem like a bitter people who crave a stiff drink, so a   Sazerac   might be their go-to after a long day of selling your soul to the Dominion. The salt rim balances the bitterness and seems fitting for a species that throws back fish juice for breakfast.

One Trek Mind #8: Drink For Thought

star trek kanar recipe

As we proceed to that moment in spacetime known as New Year's Eve, we may all feel compelled to pop a cork. In moderation, there's nothing quite like spirits that can raise your spirits, especially if accompanied by a Klingon drinking song.

The canonical works of Star Trek know all about the pros and cons of inebriation. (Don't believe me? Ask Data and Tasha Yar .) With this in mind, we'd like to close out the year with our 10 favorite drinks in the galaxy. Two rules apply, of course. The first is never drink and warp. The second – NO SYNTHEHOL!

star trek kanar recipe

10 - Saurian Brandy

A standard social refreshment about starships, Saurian Brandy works as both a diplomatic aperitif as well as when a crewman is looking to get sloshed. Its most notable appearance was in TOS 's “ By Any Other Name ,” when Scotty used the two-fisted weapon of his welcoming Scottish demeanor and a bottle of the stuff to get the Kelvan named Tomar disarmingly drunk.

Saurian Brandy usually comes in a sleek glass bottle with a long, curved neck. The Saurians themselves are a race of bipedal lizards that, alas, rarely made appearances onscreen.

star trek kanar recipe

The Cardassian liquor of choice, Kanar, is an inky black substance that, by all accounts, is an acquired taste for those from outside Cardassia.

Quark stocked the stuff at all times, never quite sure when a thirsty Spoonhead might stop by. When the Dominion War heated up, the conflicted Damar found himself developing a real dependence on it. The good guys used this to their advantage in “ Behind the Lines ,” getting him drunk to glean information. This led to one of the goofiest gags in all of Trek , when a completely sloshed Quark barged into Kira 's quarters in and announced “I just shared a bottle of Kanar with Damar. That rhymes!”

Trust me, Shimerman can make that line work.

8 – Slusho Mix

Let's ride a red matter-induced black hole to a different reality. It's a place where the Enterprise is built on Earth (I know, I know) and where Kirk hits on Uhura in a bar.

When we follow Zoe Saldana as she bounds into the Riverside Shipyard Bar (and who wouldn't follow her?) she takes the bartender's advice and tries the Slusho Mix in addition to Klavnian fire tea, Budweiser Classic and a Cardassian Sunrise.

This faux-Japanese icy beverage is, of course, a tie-in to the broader J.J. Abrams mythology of Alias, Cloverfield and Super 8 ... which you either think is kinda cool or forces you into an uncontrollable rage.

star trek kanar recipe

7 - Altair Water

Okay, this has been a lot of alcohol so far. It is important to pace yourself when you are boozing. It is good to mix in some pure H20, lest you actually dehydrate yourself.

And not just any water, but Altair Water! Sure, the environmental impact of such a far-away import may be something fierce – Altair is 16.7 light years from Earth – but there's got to be something special in this stuff. I mean, even Spock drinks it.

In fact, Spock likes it so much the lifeforce of his Katra urges McCoy to order it for him in The Search for Spock . Something as healthy as Altair Water isn't Bones' usual poison, but the Vulcan-led doctor is quick to bark back that “to expect one to order poison in a bar is not logical!”

star trek kanar recipe

6 – Snail Juice

The wife could never get into DS9 because she got creeped out by the Ferengi. We'd argue with her, “they're funny! And well-rounded so as not to simply be objects of ridicule! Give 'em a chance!” Then she'd see Quark's teeth and charge out of the room shouting “they're so gross! I can't look at them!”

We knew enough to leave it alone, lest we ever wish for another session of oo-mox.

We bring this all up because, yes, OF COURSE Ferengi drink something as disgusting as Snail Juice.  (And Rom liked his with extra shells.)

star trek kanar recipe

5 – Raktajino

Raktajino is played off as simple “Klingon coffee,” but we find it hard to believe that anything Klingon doesn't come with an extra kick. The way the senior staff on Deep Space Nine all drank the stuff, you can certainly say that it has some addictive properties.

Those with sharp memories will recall that there's something in Raktajino that is intoxicating to Talarians (see season five's “ A Simple Investigation .”) So who knows how it would affect an early 21st century Terran?

star trek kanar recipe

4 - Aldeberan Whiskey

We get the impression that Aldeberan Whiskey is the kind of drink that only gets pulled out for special occasions. Guinan had a bottle that was a gift from Captain Picard and Quark maintained a private stock.

It was Aldeberan Whiskey that Data poured for Scotty when he found himself alive one generation later in the fan favorite episode “ Relics .” And if it is good enough for the old Aberdeen pub-crawler, it is good enough for us.

star trek kanar recipe

3 – Bloodwine

It is warm. It comes in a barrel. And if you are Worf , you like it very young and very sweet.

There is no finer beverage to quaff than bloodwine when you are singing songs of glory.

May we all one day know the honor of dying in battle so we may drink with Kahless in Sto-vo-kor from a source as boundless as the River Skral! Q'aplaH!

star trek kanar recipe

2 – Romulan Ale

Romulan Ale is the most difficult beverage to get your hands on in the Federation. And perhaps we   should be grateful – this clear blue brew really packs a punch. Even a mighty warrior like Worf can be felled by a Romulan Ale hangover if Nemesis is to be believed. (Though maybe he was also feeling the effects of the B-4 subplot.)

Most notably, Bones gave Kirk a bottle (of the 2283 vintage) when the captain was sulking in San Francisco on his birthday in The Wrath of Khan . Then he started yelling at him and cursing and accusing him of turning into an antique. Yeah, Bones can really be a pain in the ass friend some times.

star trek kanar recipe

1 – Tea, Earl Grey (Hot)

After New Year's Eve comes New Year's Day. It's cold, it's bright and you are going to need something to brace you. Tea, Earl Grey (Hot) is the gentlemanly drink that will make it so.

Did we leave out your poison? Logical or not, let us know in the comments! And have a safe, happy New Year!!

6 Sazerac Twists to Try Right Now

The cognac-versus-rye debate gets a new spin with these riffs.

star trek kanar recipe

Liquor.com / Tim Nusog

The classic Sazerac is a powerful mix of rye whiskey and/or cognac, Peychaud’s and Angostura bitters, and simple syrup (or occasionally a sugar cube), with a rinse of absinthe. The resulting concoction is one of the easier spirit-forward cocktails to toss back, with its crisp, uplifting flavor.

It’s a cocktail made in the Old-Fashioned style—spirit, sugar, water, bitters—with roots in the Creole-influenced southern city of New Orleans, where the cocktail was effectively born and popularized in the 19th century. Although it was originally created with rye whiskey , modern iterations often use cognac or a split base of both cognac and rye .

The Sazerac can be a temperamental cocktail, calling for the perfect balance of temperature, dilution and ingredients used, but it’s one of the more memorable classic cocktails when crafted properly. If you’re familiar with the classic version of the drink and are looking to taste some unique takes on the spirituous staple, these are a half-dozen to try.

A Sazerac riff with banana liqueur? Say no more. The Bananarac is an original recipe from New York bartender Natasha David and it balances sophisticated spirits with approachable flavors. The base is a split of rye whiskey and Armagnac , which is then built on with banana liqueur, demerara syrup and aromatic bitters. David kept the recipe true to tradition with a lemon twist and absinthe spritz, but it’s really the banana flavor—be sure to use the high-quality liqueur David specifies—that sets this variation apart from the rest.

Get the recipe.

Pumpkin Sazerac

Spiced pumpkin gets a bad rap because of the ubiquitous latte that appears every autumn, but the flavors themselves are fantastic in drinks both caffeinated and boozy. Star bartender Naren Young uses real pumpkin to craft a spiced pumpkin syrup that pairs exceptionally well with the cocktail’s rye whiskey base. Those flavors are combined with Peychaud’s bitters and absinthe, producing the perfect Sazerac to enjoy throughout the colder months of the year. For the pumpkin haters, this cocktail might just change your mind.

Golden Sazerac

Giuseppe Gonzalez

Ex-New York City bartender Giuseppe González named this variation after the unique golden sweetener he uses called Lyle’s golden syrup . It’s a subtle riff on the classic version with a base of VSOP cognac, a rinse of absinthe and Peychaud’s bitters, and it showcases the versatility of the Sazerac and how even the smallest of changes produce such a differently flavored drink. The expressed oil from a lemon twist ties it all together with a bright citrus aroma.

White Summer Sazerac

Steven Freihon

This riff pushes the boundaries of how far the Sazerac can be pushed while still being considered a Sazerac. Best for advanced cocktail enthusiasts, the White Summer Sazerac uses a split base of four spirits: moonshine, rye whiskey, brandy and Italicus rosolio di bergamotto liqueur. A few spritzes of absinthe to coat the glass lend a strong herbal note with anise at the forefront, while simple syrup adds body and balance, and two types of bitters plus celery salt finish off the cocktail’s complex flavors.

La Tour Eiffel

The late Gary “Gaz” Regan imagined what the Sazerac would be like if it had been invented in France instead of New Orleans, and he produced this nuanced variant. XO cognac, Cointreau , absinthe and the bitter gentian-dominated Suze combine with the traditional lemon twist to form a bitter and powerful take on the classic Sazerac. Stir it with your finger as Gaz would, or opt for the more conventional route and use a bar spoon. Either way, tread lightly with this one—It packs a punch.

Kanar Sazerac

If you happen to love both sci-fi and a stiff drink, this bitter riff on the Sazerac is perfect for you. This “Star Trek”-inspired tipple uses a split base of cognac and Fernet-Branca amaro, famed for its status as a favorite among bartenders. Simple syrup, orange and Angostura bitters, and a salt rim complete the cocktail adventure, making for a drink that’s far from subtle.

The 5 Star Trek Alcoholic Beverages

by Khrista Cendana · Published March 22, 2022 · Updated March 22, 2022

Table of Contents

Are you a trekkie? Have you’ve wondered what the most popular alcoholic beverage drinks are in Star Trek or what about if the drinks were in real life and you want to buy one for yourself? We have seen in TV series or in movies that many of the foods or beverages were either props or just made up recipes. However there’s some beverages in the Star Trek universe that would probably be a surprise to you if you’re a trekkie or not. Check out the list of Star Trek Alcoholic Beverages below and see if you do recognize something.

star trek kanar recipe

Andorian Ale

The Andorian Ale drink was first seen during Star Trek Enterprise in the episode of Cease Fire. It is a drink that Captain Jonathan Archer and Commander Shran would drink throughout the series and Captain Archer became fond of it. There is a counterpart of the drink in real life called “The Androian Blue” where both drinks have the color of blue. The Andorian Ale was even seen in Star Trek Deep Space Nine for a little bit. Hence the name of the drink, it was the Andorian’s species that made the drink. They weren’t fond of humans until they met Captain Archer and his crew where they somewhat became allies.

Andorian-Ale-star-trek-beverage

The Kanar is a drink from the Cardassian people. The drink was mostly seen in the series of Star Trek Deep Space Nine within Quark’s bar. The drink was first mentioned in Star Trek The Next Generation episode: The Wounded. In real life, the drink has the same name and somewhat possibly the same thickness to it. Kanar is made by the Cardassian people and if you wanted to have a taste of it, you would probably have to go to either the Cardassian homeworld or to Deep Space Nine station.

star trek kanar recipe

Romulan Ale

The Romulan Ale was first mentioned in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. In the Star Trek series, the drink is highly illegal and there were even some places that were banned for it. The Romulan Ale is made by the Romulan people, hence the name. The drink is a intoxic alcoholic beverage and in real life there is no such thing to buy it from. However, drinks were named after the romulan ale. For instance: an energy drink is named after the infamous romulan ale, and there’s even a recipe online that you can even make it your own.

star trek kanar recipe

The Blood Wine is a drink that was made for the Klingon’s. It’s a popular drink for its people and it could be intoxicating. It’s a highly intoxicating drink that even some Klingon’s couldn’t bear to be able to drink all the Blood Wine that’s in their cup. The drink was first seen in the episode “A Matter of Honor” in Star Trek The Next Generation. There is an actual drink of the same name in real life where you could buy it online. However, unlike in the Star Trek series, the percentage of alcohol is low to 13% ABV and some humans are able to tolerate it.

star trek kanar recipe

Samarian Sunset

The Samarian Sunset is a beautiful alcohol drink that was only seen two times in the Star Trek series: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. There is a recipe online where you can make your own Samarian Sunset but there is no bottle of wine or bottle for someone to be able to buy one. It is even unknown who made the Samarian Sunset drink and very little is known about it within the Star Trek series. It’s one of those mysterious drinks that viewers would have to guess that the drink is popular with women because of Deanna Troi and Natima Lang.

star trek kanar recipe

Were you surprised by the outcome? Have you recognised these drinks throughout the Star Trek series or heard of them? 2 / 5 of the drinks are not buyable but there are recipes online where trekkies could try to make it like the one in the Star Trek series. The drinks are alcoholic drinks of course and the percentage could either be high or low. Even if you aren’t a trekkie, you can always try and taste the drink if you like it or not, that is, if you can find it to buy online. Check out the drink that you want and enjoy it.

The Captain's Table

Sign Up For Batch #3: 8 Year Old Bourbon

As we set course for the uncharted regions of The Captain's Table,  Batch #3 beams aboard an illustrious 8-Year-Old Bourbon , expertly crafted by Distillery Master Crispin Cain. Sensors detect on the nose malted grains, clove, vanilla, and candied orange peel. Initiating tasting protocols, we engage with butterscotch, caramel, toffee, fudge, vanilla, demerara, walnuts, toasted oak, and baking spices, endowing the Bourbon with a refined & unmistakable essence. The journey's end unveils flavors of malt, vanilla, toasted grains, butter, and toffee.

Astoundingly smooth, it imprints an enduring mark upon the taste receptors. Stowed in new American oak (Quercus Alba, ignited to the third degree) from Kentucky for six solar cycles, with additional time in a repurposed Cabernet cask. This whiskey achieves a harmonious equilibrium at 46.1% ABV.

Batch 3 is a limited edition, yielding only 200  bottles for this ultra limited edition release.

Romulan Ale Rye Whiskey

"ROMULAN ALE? WHY BONES, YOU KNOW THIS IS ILLEGAL"

We started with ultra-premium Rye Whiskey. It is a mash bill of 95% Rye and 5% Malted Barley, giving a sweetness and flavor complexity after aging in newly charred White Oak Barrels. After aging for 2+ years just across the Ohio River from Kentucky, it was ready for bottling. But we took it a step further with a second distilling process, creating an ultra-smooth finish.  We opted for a rare and technologically advanced vacuum distillation process, which creates lower temperatures, enhancing both flavor and aromatics.

Romulan Ale Vodka

What was illegal in the Federation is now available

Distilled from premium Midwest grain, Romulan Ale Vodka was distilled four times in a stainless steel still, to 192 proof to ensure a clean distillation of only the heart of the vodka then cut to 80 proof for bottling. A hint of corn sweetness with the higher notes from a plump smell of good wheat grain. Our Romulan Ale Vodka has a fantastic electric blue appearance. On swirling, it leaves a phenomenal blue coat on the inside of the glass with long thin legs.

It has come to my attention that some sellers (eBay, Etsy, etc.) are using my descriptions to sell their wares, but they often do NOT have the EXACT thing we are looking for. SELLERS: if you're going to sell something shown on this page, please list it as a "FOUND ITEM" not as a prop. If you aren't sure whether what you have is truly a found item, please ask me. The value of any item will change from day to day, and I am not up on current prices. Please do your own research! --------------------------------------->

'kluk kluk' is just the marketing name holmegaard used for them. they are a traditional shape and many factories across europe, scandinavia and bohemia were producing them before, during and after holmegaard's production of them. holmegaard were making them from at least the 1850s, long before per lutken worked for the factory (1942 - 1998). the versions with the crown-shaped stoppers, both straight and bent, were designed at holmegaard by jacob eiler bang in 1936 as part of his extensive 'viol' tableware range, and they were in production in a variety of colours for about 50 years. the example on set appears to be in the 'smoke' colourway (grey with a subtle green tint), which was first introduced in the late 1940s. this 'viol' kuttrolf was made in this colour until at least the 1980s. comments: * two of ours are shown below, one with the correct crown stopper and the other with the incorrect ball stopper. * you can see that although they are almost the same size, their shape is slightly different., b015 kanar - (the one in the center is a resin replica) * the bottle was sold by dickel whiskey to commemorate their 50-year anniversary in 1964. * be aware that they released a similar bottle in 1980 with whip stitching on the leather. this is the wrong bottle * it is available in 2 colors - light amber and dark amber. * the light one was used with the red holster, the dark one with the gold lettering. (we have both, i will post a comparison shot when i can.) * we have two sizes, one that is 5.5" wide and 15.25" tall with the stopper (14" without) and one that is 4.5" wide and 13" tall with the stopper (12 without). based on the image below with the kanar bottle it looks like the black bottle was the 15" size as it is taller than the 13" kanar. * this bottle is also available as a mini so make sure you don't get the mini * there are always several available on ebay but many are in bad condition (mine arrived with a scorpion inside) and some are missing the cork. * the bottle has a leather "holster" embossed with "dickel whiskey" both around the bottom edge and on the handle. i was unsure how the prop department covered this and made the holster red (tape paint) and i didn"t have time to experiment so, for the party, i covered the writing on ours with red labels. * since then, i found a customized one on ebay which is just beautiful (shown at top row on the right): * the writing on the bottle was covered with masking tape and then it, the holster, and the stopper were painted red and the metal hinges were polished. * note: the leather on these bottles and the thread holding it together is over 60 years old so you will need to be careful when you wash your treasure or it will disintegrate. the bottle i was careless with now has water stains on the holster, and the thread holding it together is nearly gone. comments: * on one of the forums i belong to i learned that the red leather covered harness is covered with red tape, as is the raised lettering on the side of the bottle. * if you zero in on the image it looks like the tape was applied vertically, not horizontally, which means they must have removed the harness. * i find this hard to believe because the harness is glued on perhaps they cut the bottom off and then used the tape to re-attach it * dan s. sent me photos of the way he customized his bottle, and i was astonished * he removed the harness and used it as a template to build a new one * he painted the harness with a custom color from angelus acrylic leather paint. * * bhe tells me that most customizers use angelus acrylic leather paint. their brick color is a common choice as it is a close match., b023 ds9 the magnificent ferengi - syrup of squill filling suggestions: aperol, strawberry syrup * bottle was made by morey distilleries and came with a bail stopper. the holes for the metal are barely visible in the photo.. * i found ours on ebay. * our bottle is 12" tall. it also comes in a mini size so make sure you don't get the mini * morey distilleries website (thank you, john, for that link) shows the bottle used for their banana liqueur. * it is impossible to tell from this screen shot what the label looks like * the label we are using is the one most customizers use. comments: * labels for this bottle are available from john harrington of cedar street studio ., b024 ent rajiin - triskelion whiskey filling suggestions: whiskey * another bottle made in spain and available in many colors. * because of the design on two sides it is sometimes described as a cathedral bottle. * like the other spanish bottles it is sometimes found at pierone and michael's for people who bottle their own vinegar. * in june 2010 john alerted me to the fact that it was available online at hobby lobby . * i bought one and it is very clear glass but the design is very faint, almost as though it was painted on rather than molded in. * there are also fewer ridges on the neck - they are only at the edges, not in the middle. * * we are using the yellow version of the bottle and a coordinating label that i created using the on-screen one as a pattern. * our bottle is 12" tall. comments: * labels for this bottle are available from john harrington of cedar street studio . * the images below show the difference between the hobby lobby bottle and the ones i found on ebay. * in the image on theh left, the hl bottle is on the left and the ebay bottle on the right, in the middle and righthand images, they are swapped. * as you can see, the design on the hl bottle is very faint, and the multiple angles prove that it is not a lighting issue., b025 ds9 the maquis - vulcan port filling suggestion: chartreuse green, cynar * acording to this video , by penny juday, the art department coordinator and archivist for star trek, this bottle originally contained olive oil. * nilva, aka francis, found one filled with bath gel. * frequently available on ebay in clear, light and dark green, or blue. also available in a variety of sizes. * we are using the light green version and our bottle has a "mirror image" version of the label. * the stopper was made from a plastic salt shaker with a brass filigree bead cap on the top. * we have two bottles, one is 10" tall the other is 9.25" tall. * based on the photo in the art of star trek where the bottle is shown next to the ferengi snail juice bottle, i believe the on-screen one is 10 inches. comments: * labels for this bottle are available from john harrington of cedar street studio * tape in all colors and sizes is available from grafstick tape and label * the red holographic tape used over the label is called holographic accent tape. i bought ours on ebay. it can be used for the sticker on the lower left side as well. * the green tape on the lower right side is ., b026 yridian ale (ds9 who mourns for morn) and altair water (st iii search for spock) * this bottle with the exact same label was used for both beverages * at one time, i thought this might be a cinzano bianco bottle. * it's readily available, not outrageously expensive (which would enable the prop dept. to buy a case of them) and there is no writing on the bottle. * but my favorite customizer, terry, says that it's a swing top and i'm sure he's right. * the ones pictured on the right, made by bormioli rocco, are 1000ml (34oz) square swing top wire bail bottles, widely available. * iaw sold theirs as "yridian ale" but penny juday called it "altair water" * i think the stopper for these was made from a round wooden cabinet pull like this one, painted gold. comments: * labels for this bottle are available from john harrington of cedar street studio, b027 voy - neelix white pitcher * designed by erik magnussen for stelton. * pitcher is 9" tall and 4" wide unlined plastic with a removable black lid. * no longer produced but available on ebay occasionally. * the new 1l version of this pitcher is 12" tall, 4.25" wide and has a thermal glass liner. it's available in several colors, including white. (the .5l version is 8.25" tall.) * we have the new thermal pitcher in many colors and use it to hold our juice mixers. comments: *, b028 step neck bottle * this bottle was used for at least 3 different drinks - from left to right: romulan ale (ds9 inter arma enem silent leges), ennan vi ale (tng time squared), and altarian brandy (tng manhunt). romulan ale (the wrath of khan) romulan ale (star trek: picard season one) the wait is over: star trek spirits is now producing romulan ale the screen-used bottle was made by the prop department and is not available anywhere else the star trek spirits bottle is made from glass so you can safely store alcohol in it. the decal is screen printed on the bottle, so you can wash and reuse it without damaging the decal there is an interesting video on their about us page showing how the bottle was made. the design is almost identical to the bottle used in the wrath of khan, shown in the middle of the second row below. i'm amazed at how closely they were able to recreate that bottle the lighter blue color seen in ds9 is a vodka-based spirit available here the darker blue color seen in tng and twok is a rye whiskey based spirit available here we have tasted both of them and they are both delicious, ultra high quality spirits the rye is similar to bulleit, very smooth, very easy to drink, with a subdued spicyness and no disagreeable aftertaste. the vodka is very, very, very smooth, unctuous, neutral tasting with no harsh notes. it's delicious straight and it's a good mixer. press here for our tasting notes and cocktail recipes. note: the blue color is currently an artificial dye, and it will turn your tongue blue they are hoping to convert it to a natural product, but the natural product is not stable. * i am positive this was made by the prop department. * there are now instructions online for how to build one using a 3d printer * and . . . there is someone on ebay selling a kit for $175 . * i was able with a gold top and several different colors of blue. * i think the gold one was used for these as there appears to be gold showing through on the bottle on the left where the paint has worn away from the top a little bit. * em and i are currently trying to figure out how they removed the stencil from the glass and then etched the outside. one can buy etching cream but neither of us has ever used it. * the bottle is 10.5" tall including the cap and 5.5" wide. * michael s. told me that a glazier (place that makes glass) is able to sand blast these to remove the logo and render them "frosted". * in the screen cap you can see these bottles were made in solid colors as well. * i have seen photos of screen used bottles on another collector's website and they came in white, bright yellow, they thought it was loetz and they did not answer my question. * if you have proof of its provenance, please send it to me comments: *, b050 tos journey to babel - decanter tos errand of mercy - decanter * the neck and stopper on this decanter look like they're amber. * it appears to be filled with an orange liquid which makes the decanter look orange. * the shape is distinctive, with a tapered neck and no rings. * it may even be another bohemian carnival decanter like the one above. * or, it could be the mikasa grosvenor decanter except that did not come in amber. * the screen cap on the left is from greg schnitzer who was working with me to locate this bottle. * the screen cap in the middle is from bhe and shows that it was clearly amber, not clear * i'm leaving the above comments intact because they still apply. * in june 2012 i stumbled on a decanter that i feel is the exact shape including the neck (no lip) and the stopper. * the problem is that it's clear, not amber. * is it possible the onscreen decanter is reflecting the liquid inside was it painted * i won't share the brand until i'm sure this is a match. ---> * i shared this bottle with bhe, who found a way to make this bottle amber * his bottle is shown in the middle of the second row, next to another screen cap. * i will share his instructions shortly. * there is a problem with this bottle, though: the bottom flares out a little and the on-screen one doesn't. * so, this may not be the original bottle after all * if it's close enough for you, it's a jack daniels gold medal no. 7 back bar bottle. (scroll to the bottom) * if you have any thoughts on this, please share them * the cobalt decanter is also close in shape but very obviously the wrong color. * the fact that it exists means that another one in amber may also have been made. -------------------------------------> comments: *, b051 tos a taste of armageddon - trova decanter tos journey to babel - decanter * i originally thought this decanter was scandinavian. * then, i thought it was blenko, based on the decanter on the right, sold on ebay as "blenko" (but with no label). * there was nothing like this in the blenko catalogs up through 1960 and i could not justify buying the 1962-1974 catalogs to check my theory so i contacted the west virginia glass museum and they told me this: * it was made by bischoff in 1963, the only year that the company was owned by lancaster colony, and the year that wayne husted (formerly of blenko) joined lancaster to head their production and design department. so, this piece was probably designed by wayne husted, but produced by bischoff not blenko. * i have seen a short version of the amberina color for sale on ebay with a rainbow sticker on it so i suspect that is a copy and may be slightly different. * bhe tells me that rainbow art was another ohio valley glass manufacturer, and some of the same people from blenko worked there, too, hence the design similarities. * on the right in both rows below are the two bottles i own, both of which are wrong * on the top row, the bottle is obviously too short, but it has the correct lip and stopper. it was sold to me as blenko but had no lable. * on the second row, the bottle is the correct height but has the wrong lip and stopper. it has a rainbow sticker on it. * the stopper from the short bottle does not fit the tall bottle. it can be used, but it's too narrow, so it sits low and it leans. * what this tells me is that the neck on the rainbow bottle is wider than the blenko. * in the photo comparing the two stoppers you can see the difference. the blenko is more elegant. * my tall bottle (remember, it has the wrong lip) is 3 inches wide at the bottom, 4.5 inches from the bottom to the shoulder, and 13.5 inches from the bottom to the lip. * in the middle of the first row is a close-up of the correct lip - it curves in a little. you may notice that the stopper in my bottle sits lower in the neck than the one in the screen cap. that's because these were hand blown and every neck and stopper is slightly different. the stopper from one bottle may not fit the neck of another identical bottle. comments: *, b052 ds9 who mourns for morn - bolian tonic water * squarish bottle with a label that looks familiar but which i cannot place * i'm pretty sure now that this is a gin bottle, either gordon"s or bengal. * if it is the rawleigh bottle i found on ebay, shown in the center, then at one time it held poison which is why i sanitize the bottles i buy before i use them * these bottles are available in many sizes. the largest i've found is 9" tall. * terry jewell just sold me one of these bottles * the bottle is the same one used for the wee bairns bottle shown in b044, the one with the caved in sides. * terry called it bolian tonic water. * the photo in the center is from one of the prop makers. it shows the gold tape around the label, and the different stoppers this bottle had. comments: *, b053 voy in the flesh - single malt voy day of honor - water * square tapered decanter which, based on the size of the glasses, appears to be about 8 inches tall. * the glasses on the left are clearly the beveled edge tumblers with an "x" on the bottom (g001) described by iaw as 4 inches tall. * i believe the decanter is the vintage italian one i found on ebay. comments: *, b054 tos the cormobite maneuver - * glass decanter with gold-tone ribbed collar and glass stopper. *this originally held kentucky tavern whiskey by glenmore distilleries. * the one on the right i found on ebay. * the bottom reads, "d-8 119 55 9 federal law prohibits sale or reuse" so i knew it was made between 1932 and 1964 and that it originally held alcohol as that phrase was required on liquor bottles when prohibition was lifted. * the numbers on the bottom each mean something: * the d-8 is the distiller code (glenmore). * the 119 is the bottle maker's license number. * and 55 is the date, so a search on 1955 decanter turned up the origin…. comments: *, b055 tos by any other name - very, very, very old scotch whiskey * i've known about this bottle for a long time, but mark b reminded me that it wasn't on the site. sorry * the bottle was originally an old rarity whiskey bottle circa 1940. (thank you mark b. for that link) * the two we have are shown on the right. the older one on the right is the correct shape. * so, as you can see, you can't just buy any old old rarity bottle * the newer bottle on the left is not as boxy as the older one on the right - the shoulders are too rounded. * the older bottle also has "federal law forbids sale or reuse of this bottle" embossed on the back, which was required on all liquor bottles sold within the united states that were made between 1935 and 1964. * my husband drank the scotch in the newer bottle (which was still decades old) and said it was ok, nothing special. * the correct bottle without the cork is about 6.5 inches tall. * comments: * labels for this bottle are available from john harrington of cedar street studio, b056 tos journey to babel - * hbe sent me both the screen cap and a photo of his pitcher for this entry * i lightened the screen cap to make the pitcher more visible * it's a mid century martini pitcher - glass with a gold band. * hbe says it measures 10 and 3/8 inchs high and 2 7/8 inches wide * he sized it in relation to the saurian brandy bottle. * while the band appears to be too thick, it's an optical illusion caused by the camera angle. * in the center is a photo of his martini pitcher with his brandy bottle and you can see the gold is the same width with respect to the bottle strap in both shots * comments:, b060 stws - star trek wines and spirits - * i created this section for those products made by star trek wines, and star trek spirits. * in addition to some found item replicas, detailed above, their products were used as set dressing in the picard series. * as such, all their products are found items * (you will be sorry if you don't snap them up now, while they're still available.) * * at the end of 2022, they offered ten different wines (the collective), and two different spirits . * press here for our tasting notes and cocktail recipes. * as they release new products, i will keep the tasting webpage up to date. * in general we have found all their products to be high quality and worth the price. * their found item replicas are spectacular they go the extra mile to duplicate every little detail * * the wines are all good, and some are very good the spirits are both excellent. * in the photo below are all the products they offered at the end of 2022. * comments:, a note on the labels john can provide (and on all the detail pages): --> john harrington of cedar street studio is a professional graphic artist. he created the logo, labels, menus and posters for the party and the background, buttons, and other graphics for the website. his talent, support and advice have been invaluable. thank you john john did not design any of the on-screen labels. he merely cleaned up low-res versions we found on other sites. we do not know who created the low-res versions., if you prefer to buy customized bottles (with labels and corks) the customized bottles i purchased were made by terry jewell (ebay id kylstone). terry does exceptional work: * all his bottles are canon * all his stoppers are canon * all his labels are waterproof and protected with a uv sealant he has offered to let me post his contact information here ..

Bloodwine scooped from barrel

Empty bloodwine bottles

KolosSharesBloodWine

The first shared toast of bloodwine between a Human and a Klingon

Bloodwine was a popular alcoholic beverage among the Klingons , best served warm. ( DS9 : " The Way of the Warrior ") As with many Klingon foods and beverages, it was not for the faint of heart . Bloodwine was known to be highly intoxicating, to the point that most non-Klingons were scarcely capable of tolerating it; it was twice as potent as whiskey . ( VOY : " The Killing Game, Part II ") The first Human known to consume the beverage was Jonathan Archer , while he awaited the verdict of his trial on Narendra III . ( ENT : " Judgment ")

Klingon captains and generals were fond of carrying several barrels of their favorite vintages to celebrate victories. Martok and Worf considered the vintage of 2309 to be the finest. ( SNW : " The Broken Circle "; DS9 : " Treachery, Faith and the Great River ", " Once More Unto the Breach ", " When It Rains... ", " What You Leave Behind ") Worf liked his bloodwine very young and very sweet. ( DS9 : " Change of Heart ") He had programmed the USS Enterprise -D replicators with a close approximation of bloodwine. ( TNG : " Gambit, Part II ") In the Klingon Defense Force , bloodwine was available in the mess hall from barrels for crewmembers during meals. When more was needed a fresh barrel was brought in from elsewhere, presumably from the ship's stores. ( LD : " wej Duj ")

Bloodwine did not have bubbles . Constable Odo found this to be a pity. After he and Miles O'Brien had been drinking it for a time in the Hall of Warriors at Ty'Gokor , O'Brien admitted that he thought he was actually starting to like the stuff. Odo tended to agree, stating that "except for the taste" that "it's really not that bad". ( DS9 : " Apocalypse Rising ")

Bloodwine was traditionally consumed by warriors being inducted into the Order of the Bat'leth as part of the celebration/ endurance test given the night before. ( DS9 : " Apocalypse Rising ")

Bloodwine was used in a symbolic gesture following the Invasion of Cardassia in 2375 . While standing on the surface of Cardassia, Martok offered William Ross and Benjamin Sisko bloodwine which had been previously promised for celebration of victory. However, at that moment, Ross and Sisko reflected on the destructive nature of war, and poured their glasses of bloodwine on the ground. ( DS9 : " What You Leave Behind ")

In 2402 , Beverly Crusher became heavily intoxicated after consuming large quantities of bloodwine at 10 Forward Avenue . ( PIC : " The Last Generation ")

Background information [ ]

The Star Trek Encyclopedia  (4th ed., vol. 1, p. 426) described bloodwine as a variety of red Klingon wine .

Whether there is actual blood in the ingredients has never been revealed; however, the Star Trek Cookbook suggests that bloodwine is made of fermented blood and sugar .

While in later seasons, bloodwine was usually served from large kettles or smaller, silver bottles, in " The House of Quark " it was served from a glass bottle in the shape of grapes. The same type of bottle appeared in " Vortex " where it contained langour .

A blood wine bottle was among the items which were sold off on the It's A Wrap! sale and auction on eBay. [1]

In 2012, Vinport produced a Klingon bloodwine made (inauthentically) from grapes.

'Star Trek' Wine Goes Blue as Two More Aliens Get Their Own Bottles

With new Andorian and Cardassian varieties, Star Trek now has six official wines — and you can buy them all for $299.

Mike Pomranz has been covering craft beer for nearly two decades and trending food and beverage news for Food & Wine for 7 years.

star trek kanar recipe

Debuting in 1966, the original Star Trek TV series ran for just three seasons — but the media empire it spawned continues to proliferate to this day: spinoff series, movies, books, games, and more. Speaking of more, in 2019, Star Trek launched its own line of wines — and now, similar to the series itself, that wine collection is also continuing to expand: Star Trek Wines has just announced the addition of two more bottles to its now six-bottle lineup.

To recap, Star Trek Wines launched with two options — Chateau Picard Cru Bordeaux and United Federation of Planets Old Vine Zinfandel — produced in partnership with Wines That Rock. (If that name sounds familiar, it's because they also make wines for The Hallmark Channel , NPR , and Downton Abbey, along with their namesake rock band-themed products.) A year later, in 2020, two more wines joined the mix: Klingon Bloodwine and United Federation of Planets Sauvignon Blanc.

Now, it's 2021, and as any serialized TV show knows, you need fresh content, so say hello to your latest season of Star Trek Wines: United Federation of Planets Special Reserve Andorian Blue Chardonnay (at $50 per bottle) and Cardassian Kanar Red Wine Blend (at $60 per bottle).

Since a fictional world can't produce (or even taste test) wines, as is often the case with these kinds of branded vinos, the look is as important as the liquid — and both these products are visually striking. (They're also all individually numbered to help hammer home their collectability.)

Incredibly, the Andorian Blue Chardonnay is literally blue , intended to pay "homage to the history of colorful Star Trek spirits." This unique hue is highlighted with a bottom-heavy clear bottle that is also adorned with "a special United Federation of Planets metal medallion." As for the wine, it's billed as "premium Chardonnay from Santa Lucia Highlands" that's been "aged 12 months prior to bottling and has delicious notes of citrus, peach and apricots."

As for the Cardassian Kanar Red Wine Blend, its eye-popping spiral bottle comes with its own backstory. "In a quest for authenticity, the team conducted a rigorous multi-year search for an original Cardassian Kanar bottle, a unique, serpent-shaped vessel, originally utilized in the 1950s through the 1970s in Europe," Star Trek Wines explains. "With only a handful of the original bottles found, the few remaining were rendered in 3D for accuracy in Southern Italy to recreate an identical replica, resulting in one of the most fascinating bottles in the Galaxy." As for the wine, the mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Sirah, and Petite Verdot is said to result "in a dark, rich wine with notes of ripe blackberries and juicy blueberries, velvety tannins, and a long, delightful finish."

Both new wines are available for presale at StarTrekWines.com . Or, if you want to buy the whole six-bottle collection — "The Full Armada" — it's currently available for $299. Orders containing the two new wines are slated to start shipping in November.

The first is a dark blue Rye Whiskey, describe as “a mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley, giving a sweetness and flavor complexity after aging newly-charred white oak barrels.”

“We utilized a 150-year-old yeast strain, used in some extraordinary and well-known Rye whiskeys. After aging for 2+ years just across the Ohio River from Kentucky, it was ready for bottling.   But we took it a step further with second distilling process, creating an ultra-smooth finish, even at a very high bottle proof. In collaboration with a world-renowned food scientist, we opted for a rare and technologically advanced vacuum distillation process. Distillation under vacuum creates lower temperatures, enhancing both flavor and aromatics. We’d like to think that distillation in the future would also be done in similar low-pressure environments. As it turns out, distillation in a vacuum happens to make great whiskey!   The Rye graininess is apparent in the nose and initial taste on the tongue. Then comes that sweet brown note of vanilla creaminess and sweetness. It has the spicy peppery notes that all high rye whiskeys are known for in the finish, but ours is muted with dried fig, raisin and cherry fruitiness.”

The Romulan Ale Rye Whiskey can be ordered now for $85 USD per bottle, with shipments expected to begin in December 2022.

The second release is a lighter-blue colored Vodka product , with “a hint of corn sweetness, with higher notes from a plump smell of good wheat grain.”

“Distilled from premium Midwest grain, the vodka is produced in the Napa Area, distilled four times in a stainless steel still, to 192 proof to ensure a clean distillation of only the heart of the vodka then cut to 80 proofs for bottling.   Put together by a family of thirteen generation distillers, there are no trace of off notes or the smell of rubbing alcohol that many vodkas suffer from. A carefully done distillation. Touch of corn sweetness with the higher notes from a plump smell of good wheat grain.   Our Romulan Ale Blue Vodka has a fantastic electric blue appearance, with no sediment whatsoever. On swirling, it leaves a phenomenal blue coat on the inside of the glass with long thin legs. Wonderful bright appearance.   Unlike several other vodkas, this one is not highly filtered so you have a great body and mouthfeel that would otherwise be lost.

Fans who sign up for the  Star Trek Sprits  mailing list on their website will also get a complimentary vodka recipe for the “Quantum Singularity Cocktail,” named “in honor of the fuel source for Romulan ships.”

The Romulan Ale Rye Whiskey can be ordered now for $75 USD per bottle, with shipments expected to begin in December 2022.
