I just tried coming up with a recipe for kanar and took a different route than using things that are normally pleasant in a drink. Here's what I did: 1 tablespoon molasses 1 tablespoon syrup 1 tablespoon vodka 1/2 tablespoon worcestershire sauce Now, the vodka should probably be substituted for something a little darker and more rich like Captain Morgan 100 proof (I'm not exactly stocked up right now), but I think I've nailed the drink for the most part. It is palatable, but would take some getting used to just like Glinn Daro said.

Property Master Joe Longo joked in an issue of Star Trek: The Magazine (Issue 4) that "... he was drinking so much he was getting weird, so we started using a thickened sugar-free pancake syrup."

maybe you should try and make a drink with it almaretto butter schotch or something?

They say it takes some getting used to - Why not use Salmari (Finnish licorice vodka) as a base?

One Trek Mind #8: Drink For Thought

As we proceed to that moment in spacetime known as New Year's Eve, we may all feel compelled to pop a cork. In moderation, there's nothing quite like spirits that can raise your spirits, especially if accompanied by a Klingon drinking song.

The canonical works of Star Trek know all about the pros and cons of inebriation. (Don't believe me? Ask Data and Tasha Yar .) With this in mind, we'd like to close out the year with our 10 favorite drinks in the galaxy. Two rules apply, of course. The first is never drink and warp. The second – NO SYNTHEHOL!

10 - Saurian Brandy

A standard social refreshment about starships, Saurian Brandy works as both a diplomatic aperitif as well as when a crewman is looking to get sloshed. Its most notable appearance was in TOS 's “ By Any Other Name ,” when Scotty used the two-fisted weapon of his welcoming Scottish demeanor and a bottle of the stuff to get the Kelvan named Tomar disarmingly drunk.

Saurian Brandy usually comes in a sleek glass bottle with a long, curved neck. The Saurians themselves are a race of bipedal lizards that, alas, rarely made appearances onscreen.

The Cardassian liquor of choice, Kanar, is an inky black substance that, by all accounts, is an acquired taste for those from outside Cardassia.

Quark stocked the stuff at all times, never quite sure when a thirsty Spoonhead might stop by. When the Dominion War heated up, the conflicted Damar found himself developing a real dependence on it. The good guys used this to their advantage in “ Behind the Lines ,” getting him drunk to glean information. This led to one of the goofiest gags in all of Trek , when a completely sloshed Quark barged into Kira 's quarters in and announced “I just shared a bottle of Kanar with Damar. That rhymes!”

Trust me, Shimerman can make that line work.

8 – Slusho Mix

Let's ride a red matter-induced black hole to a different reality. It's a place where the Enterprise is built on Earth (I know, I know) and where Kirk hits on Uhura in a bar.

When we follow Zoe Saldana as she bounds into the Riverside Shipyard Bar (and who wouldn't follow her?) she takes the bartender's advice and tries the Slusho Mix in addition to Klavnian fire tea, Budweiser Classic and a Cardassian Sunrise.

This faux-Japanese icy beverage is, of course, a tie-in to the broader J.J. Abrams mythology of Alias, Cloverfield and Super 8 ... which you either think is kinda cool or forces you into an uncontrollable rage.

7 - Altair Water

Okay, this has been a lot of alcohol so far. It is important to pace yourself when you are boozing. It is good to mix in some pure H20, lest you actually dehydrate yourself.

And not just any water, but Altair Water! Sure, the environmental impact of such a far-away import may be something fierce – Altair is 16.7 light years from Earth – but there's got to be something special in this stuff. I mean, even Spock drinks it.

In fact, Spock likes it so much the lifeforce of his Katra urges McCoy to order it for him in The Search for Spock . Something as healthy as Altair Water isn't Bones' usual poison, but the Vulcan-led doctor is quick to bark back that “to expect one to order poison in a bar is not logical!”

6 – Snail Juice

The wife could never get into DS9 because she got creeped out by the Ferengi. We'd argue with her, “they're funny! And well-rounded so as not to simply be objects of ridicule! Give 'em a chance!” Then she'd see Quark's teeth and charge out of the room shouting “they're so gross! I can't look at them!”

We knew enough to leave it alone, lest we ever wish for another session of oo-mox.

We bring this all up because, yes, OF COURSE Ferengi drink something as disgusting as Snail Juice.  (And Rom liked his with extra shells.)

5 – Raktajino

Raktajino is played off as simple “Klingon coffee,” but we find it hard to believe that anything Klingon doesn't come with an extra kick. The way the senior staff on Deep Space Nine all drank the stuff, you can certainly say that it has some addictive properties.

Those with sharp memories will recall that there's something in Raktajino that is intoxicating to Talarians (see season five's “ A Simple Investigation .”) So who knows how it would affect an early 21st century Terran?

4 - Aldeberan Whiskey

We get the impression that Aldeberan Whiskey is the kind of drink that only gets pulled out for special occasions. Guinan had a bottle that was a gift from Captain Picard and Quark maintained a private stock.

It was Aldeberan Whiskey that Data poured for Scotty when he found himself alive one generation later in the fan favorite episode “ Relics .” And if it is good enough for the old Aberdeen pub-crawler, it is good enough for us.

3 – Bloodwine

It is warm. It comes in a barrel. And if you are Worf , you like it very young and very sweet.

There is no finer beverage to quaff than bloodwine when you are singing songs of glory.

May we all one day know the honor of dying in battle so we may drink with Kahless in Sto-vo-kor from a source as boundless as the River Skral! Q'aplaH!

2 – Romulan Ale

Romulan Ale is the most difficult beverage to get your hands on in the Federation. And perhaps we   should be grateful – this clear blue brew really packs a punch. Even a mighty warrior like Worf can be felled by a Romulan Ale hangover if Nemesis is to be believed. (Though maybe he was also feeling the effects of the B-4 subplot.)

Most notably, Bones gave Kirk a bottle (of the 2283 vintage) when the captain was sulking in San Francisco on his birthday in The Wrath of Khan . Then he started yelling at him and cursing and accusing him of turning into an antique. Yeah, Bones can really be a pain in the ass friend some times.

1 – Tea, Earl Grey (Hot)

After New Year's Eve comes New Year's Day. It's cold, it's bright and you are going to need something to brace you. Tea, Earl Grey (Hot) is the gentlemanly drink that will make it so.

6 Sazerac Twists to Try Right Now

The cognac-versus-rye debate gets a new spin with these riffs.

The classic Sazerac is a powerful mix of rye whiskey and/or cognac, Peychaud’s and Angostura bitters, and simple syrup (or occasionally a sugar cube), with a rinse of absinthe. The resulting concoction is one of the easier spirit-forward cocktails to toss back, with its crisp, uplifting flavor.

It’s a cocktail made in the Old-Fashioned style—spirit, sugar, water, bitters—with roots in the Creole-influenced southern city of New Orleans, where the cocktail was effectively born and popularized in the 19th century. Although it was originally created with rye whiskey , modern iterations often use cognac or a split base of both cognac and rye .

The Sazerac can be a temperamental cocktail, calling for the perfect balance of temperature, dilution and ingredients used, but it’s one of the more memorable classic cocktails when crafted properly. If you’re familiar with the classic version of the drink and are looking to taste some unique takes on the spirituous staple, these are a half-dozen to try.

A Sazerac riff with banana liqueur? Say no more. The Bananarac is an original recipe from New York bartender Natasha David and it balances sophisticated spirits with approachable flavors. The base is a split of rye whiskey and Armagnac , which is then built on with banana liqueur, demerara syrup and aromatic bitters. David kept the recipe true to tradition with a lemon twist and absinthe spritz, but it’s really the banana flavor—be sure to use the high-quality liqueur David specifies—that sets this variation apart from the rest.

Pumpkin Sazerac

Spiced pumpkin gets a bad rap because of the ubiquitous latte that appears every autumn, but the flavors themselves are fantastic in drinks both caffeinated and boozy. Star bartender Naren Young uses real pumpkin to craft a spiced pumpkin syrup that pairs exceptionally well with the cocktail’s rye whiskey base. Those flavors are combined with Peychaud’s bitters and absinthe, producing the perfect Sazerac to enjoy throughout the colder months of the year. For the pumpkin haters, this cocktail might just change your mind.

Golden Sazerac

Ex-New York City bartender Giuseppe González named this variation after the unique golden sweetener he uses called Lyle’s golden syrup . It’s a subtle riff on the classic version with a base of VSOP cognac, a rinse of absinthe and Peychaud’s bitters, and it showcases the versatility of the Sazerac and how even the smallest of changes produce such a differently flavored drink. The expressed oil from a lemon twist ties it all together with a bright citrus aroma.

White Summer Sazerac

This riff pushes the boundaries of how far the Sazerac can be pushed while still being considered a Sazerac. Best for advanced cocktail enthusiasts, the White Summer Sazerac uses a split base of four spirits: moonshine, rye whiskey, brandy and Italicus rosolio di bergamotto liqueur. A few spritzes of absinthe to coat the glass lend a strong herbal note with anise at the forefront, while simple syrup adds body and balance, and two types of bitters plus celery salt finish off the cocktail’s complex flavors. 

La Tour Eiffel

The late Gary “Gaz” Regan imagined what the Sazerac would be like if it had been invented in France instead of New Orleans, and he produced this nuanced variant. XO cognac, Cointreau , absinthe and the bitter gentian-dominated Suze combine with the traditional lemon twist to form a bitter and powerful take on the classic Sazerac. Stir it with your finger as Gaz would, or opt for the more conventional route and use a bar spoon. Either way, tread lightly with this one—It packs a punch.

Kanar Sazerac

If you happen to love both sci-fi and a stiff drink, this bitter riff on the Sazerac is perfect for you. This “Star Trek”-inspired tipple uses a split base of cognac and Fernet-Branca amaro, famed for its status as a favorite among bartenders. Simple syrup, orange and Angostura bitters, and a salt rim complete the cocktail adventure, making for a drink that’s far from subtle.

Are you a trekkie? Have you’ve wondered what the most popular alcoholic beverage drinks are in Star Trek or what about if the drinks were in real life and you want to buy one for yourself? We have seen in TV series or in movies that many of the foods or beverages were either props or just made up recipes. However there’s some beverages in the Star Trek universe that would probably be a surprise to you if you’re a trekkie or not. Check out the list of Star Trek Alcoholic Beverages below and see if you do recognize something.

Andorian Ale

The Andorian Ale drink was first seen during Star Trek Enterprise in the episode of Cease Fire. It is a drink that Captain Jonathan Archer and Commander Shran would drink throughout the series and Captain Archer became fond of it. There is a counterpart of the drink in real life called “The Androian Blue” where both drinks have the color of blue. The Andorian Ale was even seen in Star Trek Deep Space Nine for a little bit. Hence the name of the drink, it was the Andorian’s species that made the drink. They weren’t fond of humans until they met Captain Archer and his crew where they somewhat became allies. 

The Kanar is a drink from the Cardassian people. The drink was mostly seen in the series of Star Trek Deep Space Nine within Quark’s bar. The drink was first mentioned in Star Trek The Next Generation episode: The Wounded. In real life, the drink has the same name and somewhat possibly the same thickness to it. Kanar is made by the Cardassian people and if you wanted to have a taste of it, you would probably have to go to either the Cardassian homeworld or to Deep Space Nine station. 

Romulan Ale

The Romulan Ale was first mentioned in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. In the Star Trek series, the drink is highly illegal and there were even some places that were banned for it. The Romulan Ale is made by the Romulan people, hence the name. The drink is a intoxic alcoholic beverage and in real life there is no such thing to buy it from. However, drinks were named after the romulan ale. For instance: an energy drink is named after the infamous romulan ale, and there’s even a recipe online that you can even make it your own. 

The Blood Wine is a drink that was made for the Klingon’s. It’s a popular drink for its people and it could be intoxicating. It’s a highly intoxicating drink that even some Klingon’s couldn’t bear to be able to drink all the Blood Wine that’s in their cup. The drink was first seen in the episode “A Matter of Honor” in Star Trek The Next Generation. There is an actual drink of the same name in real life where you could buy it online. However, unlike in the Star Trek series, the percentage of alcohol is low to 13% ABV and some humans are able to tolerate it.

Samarian Sunset 

The Samarian Sunset is a beautiful alcohol drink that was only seen two times in the Star Trek series: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. There is a recipe online where you can make your own Samarian Sunset but there is no bottle of wine or bottle for someone to be able to buy one. It is even unknown who made the Samarian Sunset drink and very little is known about it within the Star Trek series. It’s one of those mysterious drinks that viewers would have to guess that the drink is popular with women because of Deanna Troi and Natima Lang.

Romulan Ale Rye Whiskey

We started with ultra-premium Rye Whiskey. It is a mash bill of 95% Rye and 5% Malted Barley, giving a sweetness and flavor complexity after aging in newly charred White Oak Barrels. After aging for 2+ years just across the Ohio River from Kentucky, it was ready for bottling. But we took it a step further with a second distilling process, creating an ultra-smooth finish.  We opted for a rare and technologically advanced vacuum distillation process, which creates lower temperatures, enhancing both flavor and aromatics.

Distilled from premium Midwest grain, Romulan Ale Vodka was distilled four times in a stainless steel still, to 192 proof to ensure a clean distillation of only the heart of the vodka then cut to 80 proof for bottling. something green tos journey to babel - opaque milky liquid tos let that be your last battlefield - red liquid filling suggestion: cynar, irish cream liqueur, campari * this is the elsinore kluk kluk decanter made by holmegaard. the one scotty is holding looks like the smoke color in the medium size with a bent neck. it may also be the clear version with remnants of green on the bottom. * it was also made in clear, amber, green, teal, and blue. * some of them were bent, like scotty's, but the majority of them were straight. * because it was hand made the sizes are not exact. * the largest seem to be between 12 and 14, including the stopper, the medium between 8 and 10, and the small between 6 and 8 inches tall. * our bent bottle is 8.5" tall. * two stoppers were available, a round one similar to archer's decanter, and one that looks like a crown. * the decanter used on-screen appears to have the crown stopper. * there are always several on ebay described as "kluk kluk" or "cluck cluck" or "glug glug" for the noise it makes as it pours. * correction from nic on the star trek new voyages forum : * the proper, generic, name for this form of decanter is 'kuttrolf', and it has been around for centuries - 'kluk kluk' is just the marketing name holmegaard used for them. they are a traditional shape and many factories across europe, scandinavia and bohemia were producing them before, during and after holmegaard's production of them. holmegaard were making them from at least the 1850s, long before per lutken worked for the factory (1942 - 17 inches tall) * galliano used to make a 500ml size (13.5 inches) which is the size that was used on the show. * jim c. tells me that the correct size, which shows up occasionally on ebay, is described as 23/32 (13.5 inches). * he says the time period for this size fits the time frame for the episode as well. * i agree this is the correct size. * however, every one that i've seen in that size has a blue soldier decal on one side which will have to be removed. * or, perhaps, that is why it's filled with blue liquid can you see the outline of the soldier * bhe alerted me to the fact that this bottle is also seen in gamesters of triskelion. * we believe this is the same 23/32 version. filled with dark liquid again. * empty bottles occasionally show up on ebay. comments: * *, b019 tos let that be your last battlefield - * if you plan to use this decanter to serve alcohol, know that it is lead crystal and the lead will leach. * it's ok to fill it, serve what's in it, and then empty it. quote below is from lead crystal safety: . to avoid high levels of lead, wine or liquor in a crystal decanter should be consumed in a matter of 2 hours and should never be left to sit. on the other hand, the amount of lead that can leach into a glass of wine that is only left sitting for a half hour or so is not very high. this means that in theory you can use your leaded crystal glasses on occasion and for short periods without worrying if the lead is leaking into the drink at dangerously high levels. * i finally know where this bottle might have originated * the bottle was handmade in florence, italy for calvert distillers co in 1953. it stands 9" tall. * lord calvert whisky was owned by seagrams at that time and was subsequently sold to jim beam. * i have been trying to contact jim beam to ask whether it was sold this way for more than one year. * i suspect it is an extremely rare single-year issue. * i won ours on ebay for more than i care to admit. * if i am correct, the stopper used on screen is not original. * the stopper that came with the decanter is round. * i traded this decanter, so i no longer have it as a reference. * the one i do have is the empty one shown below next to the blue/violet one. * * for those of you who are looking for exactly the right decanter, read on: *bhe tells me that he does not believe this is the correct decanter because of the shape of the neck. *he believes the correct decanter was made by lord calvert, but it is not the canadian ten *he has seen several of these decanters, all supposedly by lord calvert, and they all have a different neck *in the photos he sent me (under the screen cap) you can see the neck line of the screenused, the canadian ten, and the calvert from top to bottom. *you can see that the lip on the canadian ten is thicker than the calvert, and the calvert lip more closely matches the screenused. *i agree that the canadian ten bottle shown below does not have the correct neck, or the correct lip *if you look at the screen cap on the left, the neck is almost straight. *in the photo of the canadian ten bottle on the right, the neck is curved and has some buttresses. *if you look at the photo of my two bottles, the blue/violet one has the correct neck and correct lip, but it is clearly not lord calvert *the blue/violet one is a little smaller than the clear one. *the clear one in the photos with the blue/violet has the wrong neck, but the right lip *the clear one arrived without a lable, so i have no idea where it originated. *it's possible that some lord calvert bottles do have the correct neck and/or lip. *it's also possible - available here we have tasted both of them and they are both delicious, ultra high quality spirits the rye is similar to bulleit, very smooth, very easy to drink, with a subdued spicyness and no disagreeable aftertaste. the vodka is very, very, very smooth, unctuous, neutral tasting with no harsh notes. it's delicious straight and it's a good mixer. press here for our tasting notes and 8 Star Trek Recipes You Can Replicate At Home

1. Plomeek Soup - Star Trek : The Original Series

Plomeek soup is a traditional morning meal on the Vulcan homeworld. Taking a page from the mostly vegetarian Vulcans, the Earth version is vegan-friendly.

You'll Need:

• 2 garlic cloves

• 5 carrots

• 2 small-medium sweet potatoes, peeled

• 3 small-medium beetroots, peeled

• 3 sticks celery

• 1 litre vegetable stock

• Salt and pepper

• Vegetable oil

• Parsley for garnish (optional)

Once you have your ingredients, follow these instructions .

2. Rokeg Blood Pie - Star Trek: The Next Generation

An ancient Klingon recipe, Rokeg blood pie is served during their "Day of Honor" holiday. In direct contrast to the Vulcans, this dish is decidedly not vegan friendly.

• 600ml / 20 fl oz pig’s blood

• 150ml / 5 fl oz heavy cream

• 280g / 10oz pork back fat, finely diced

• 280g / 10oz onions, finely diced

• 2 tablespoons rolled oats

• 1 tablespoon salt

• 1/2 tablespoon smoked paprika

• 1/2 tablespoon sweet paprika

• 1/2 tablespoon nutmeg

• 1/2 tablespoon white pepper

• 1/2 tablespoon chili flakes (optional)

• 3 small beetroots with long roots (if preparing the pie to look like it does on the show)

3. Heart of Targ - Star Trek: The Next Generation

Another traditional Klingon meal, a Targ heart (Klingon boars) is believed to bring courage to the warrior who eats it.

• 6 Lamb’s hearts

• 1 head of kale, sliced into thin strips

• 6 stalks of celery, sliced into small pieces

• 1/2 cup water

For the sauce:

• 1 cup red wine

• 2 tablespoons brown sugar

• 2 tablespoons Worcestershire

• 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Follow these steps to have your Day of Honor main course.

4. Jumba Stick - Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Made from the sap of the Bajoran jumja tree, these confections are notable for their insane sweetness.

• 1/4 cup golden syrup

• 1/4 cup treacle

• 1/2 cup sugar

• 1/4 cup water

Once you've gathered your supplies, follow these steps to create the sweet treat.

5. Hasperat - Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

A well known spicy Bajoran food, it is cooked in a special brine which scorches the tongue if done right.

• 1/4 white cabbage

• 1 litre water

• 250ml vinegar

• 1 teaspoon of sugar

• 125g salt

• 3-4 hot chillies to taste, chopped fine

• Juice of one lemon

Be sure you're ready to start prep a week in advance to properly brine the ingredients.

6. Algae Puffs - Star Trek: Voyager

A local baked Enaran delicacy.

• 4 ounces / 1 stick / 115g butter

• 1 cup water

• 1 cup plain flour

• 35g dried seaweed, in small flakes or powdered

The step-by-step instructions are easy to follow and also show how to convert them into cheese puffs.

7. Luhvian Quail - Star Trek: Voyager

A small bird of similar to the Earth quail and served in truffle sauce, it makes a fine starter to any multi-course dinner.

• 1 litre water - 500ml boiling, 500ml chilled or at room temperature

• 4 carrots

• 8-10 mushrooms

• 1/2 pumpkin, cut into rounds

• 1 1/2 teaspoons dried thyme

• 4 springs fresh thyme, for garnish

• 2-3 vol-au-vent cases

• Splash of olive oil

For the truffle sauce:

• 1-2 thin slices of truffle, chopped fine

• 1 tablespoon butter

• 1 tablespoon Madeira

• 100ml chicken stock

While it looks complicated, the directions are simple to follow along with.

8. Seltin Pâté - Star Trek: Voyager

Traditionally made with wood fungus from the Seltin planet, this pâté is a delicious appetizer for lunch or parties.

• 40g / 1.4oz butter

• 1 onion, finely sliced

• 1 garlic clove, finely sliced

• 500g / 17.5oz mushrooms such as button or swiss brown, roughly chopped

• 1 tablespoon plain flour

• 4 sprigs thyme leaves

• 1/4 cup red wine (or you can substitute water)

• 2 tablespoons cream

• 1/2 teaspoon salt

For the filo pastry bowl:

• 4 oven-safe ramekins or small dishes

• 50-70g melted butter

• 1/2 packet of frozen filo pastry

After following the recipe , the resulting tiny pâté bowls are delectable and adorable.

Empty bloodwine bottles

The first shared toast of bloodwine between a Human and a Klingon

Bloodwine was a popular alcoholic beverage among the Klingons , best served warm. ( DS9 : " The Way of the Warrior ") As with many Klingon foods and beverages, it was not for the faint of heart . Bloodwine was known to be highly intoxicating, to the point that most non-Klingons were scarcely capable of tolerating it; it was twice as potent as whiskey . ( VOY : " The Killing Game, Part II ") The first Human known to consume the beverage was Jonathan Archer , while he awaited the verdict of his trial on Narendra III . ( ENT : " Judgment ")

Klingon captains and generals were fond of carrying several barrels of their favorite vintages to celebrate victories. Martok and Worf considered the vintage of 2309 to be the finest. ( SNW : " The Broken Circle "; DS9 : " Treachery, Faith and the Great River ", " Once More Unto the Breach ", " When It Rains... ", " What You Leave Behind ") Worf liked his bloodwine very young and very sweet. ( DS9 : " Change of Heart ") He had programmed the USS Enterprise -D replicators with a close approximation of bloodwine. ( TNG : " Gambit, Part II ") In the Klingon Defense Force , bloodwine was available in the mess hall from barrels for crewmembers during meals. When more was needed a fresh barrel was brought in from elsewhere, presumably from the ship's stores. ( LD : " wej Duj ")

Bloodwine did not have bubbles . Constable Odo found this to be a pity. After he and Miles O'Brien had been drinking it for a time in the Hall of Warriors at Ty'Gokor , O'Brien admitted that he thought he was actually starting to like the stuff. Odo tended to agree, stating that "except for the taste" that "it's really not that bad". ( DS9 : " Apocalypse Rising ")

Bloodwine was traditionally consumed by warriors being inducted into the Order of the Bat'leth as part of the celebration/ endurance test given the night before. ( DS9 : " Apocalypse Rising ")

Bloodwine was used in a symbolic gesture following the Invasion of Cardassia in 2375 . While standing on the surface of Cardassia, Martok offered William Ross and Benjamin Sisko bloodwine which had been previously promised for celebration of victory. However, at that moment, Ross and Sisko reflected on the destructive nature of war, and poured their glasses of bloodwine on the ground. ( DS9 : " What You Leave Behind ")

In 2402 , Beverly Crusher became heavily intoxicated after consuming large quantities of bloodwine at 10 Forward Avenue . ( PIC : " The Last Generation ")

Background information [ ]

The Star Trek Encyclopedia  (4th ed., vol. 1, p. 426) described bloodwine as a variety of red Klingon wine .

Whether there is actual blood in the ingredients has never been revealed; however, the Star Trek Cookbook suggests that bloodwine is made of fermented blood and sugar .

While in later seasons, bloodwine was usually served from large kettles or smaller, silver bottles, in " The House of Quark " it was served from a glass bottle in the shape of grapes. The same type of bottle appeared in " Vortex " where it contained langour .

A blood wine bottle was among the items which were sold off on the It's A Wrap! sale and auction on eBay. [1]

In 2012, Vinport produced a Klingon bloodwine made (inauthentically) from grapes.

'Star Trek' Wine Goes Blue as Two More Aliens Get Their Own Bottles

With new Andorian and Cardassian varieties, Star Trek now has six official wines — and you can buy them all for $299.

Debuting in 1966, the original Star Trek TV series ran for just three seasons — but the media empire it spawned continues to proliferate to this day: spinoff series, movies, books, games, and more. Speaking of more, in 2019, Star Trek launched its own line of wines — and now, similar to the series itself, that wine collection is also continuing to expand: Star Trek Wines has just announced the addition of two more bottles to its now six-bottle lineup.

To recap, Star Trek Wines launched with two options — Chateau Picard Cru Bordeaux and United Federation of Planets Old Vine Zinfandel — produced in partnership with Wines That Rock. (If that name sounds familiar, it's because they also make wines for The Hallmark Channel , NPR , and Downton Abbey, along with their namesake rock band-themed products.) A year later, in 2020, two more wines joined the mix: Klingon Bloodwine and United Federation of Planets Sauvignon Blanc.

Now, it's 2021, and as any serialized TV show knows, you need fresh content, so say hello to your latest season of Star Trek Wines: United Federation of Planets Special Reserve Andorian Blue Chardonnay (at $50 per bottle) and Cardassian Kanar Red Wine Blend (at $60 per bottle).

Since a fictional world can't produce (or even taste test) wines, as is often the case with these kinds of branded vinos, the look is as important as the liquid — and both these products are visually striking. (They're also all individually numbered to help hammer home their collectability.)

Incredibly, the Andorian Blue Chardonnay is literally blue , intended to pay "homage to the history of colorful Star Trek spirits." This unique hue is highlighted with a bottom-heavy clear bottle that is also adorned with "a special United Federation of Planets metal medallion." As for the wine, it's billed as "premium Chardonnay from Santa Lucia Highlands" that's been "aged 12 months prior to bottling and has delicious notes of citrus, peach and apricots."

As for the Cardassian Kanar Red Wine Blend, its eye-popping spiral bottle comes with its own backstory. "In a quest for authenticity, the team conducted a rigorous multi-year search for an original Cardassian Kanar bottle, a unique, serpent-shaped vessel, originally utilized in the 1950s through the 1970s in Europe," Star Trek Wines explains. "With only a handful of the original bottles found, the few remaining were rendered in 3D for accuracy in Southern Italy to recreate an identical replica, resulting in one of the most fascinating bottles in the Galaxy." As for the wine, the mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Sirah, and Petite Verdot is said to result "in a dark, rich wine with notes of ripe blackberries and juicy blueberries, velvety tannins, and a long, delightful finish."

Both new wines are available for presale at StarTrekWines.com . Or, if you want to buy the whole six-bottle collection — "The Full Armada" — it's currently available for $299. Orders containing the two new wines are slated to start shipping in November.

The first is a dark blue Rye Whiskey, describe as “a mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley, giving a sweetness and flavor complexity after aging newly-charred white oak barrels.”

“We utilized a 150-year-old yeast strain, used in some extraordinary and well-known Rye whiskeys. After aging for 2+ years just across the Ohio River from Kentucky, it was ready for bottling.   But we took it a step further with second distilling process, creating an ultra-smooth finish, even at a very high bottle proof. Distillation under vacuum creates lower temperatures, enhancing both flavor and aromatics. We’d like to think that distillation in the future would also be done in similar low-pressure environments. As it turns out, distillation in a vacuum happens to make great whiskey!   The Rye graininess is apparent in the nose and initial taste on the tongue. Then comes that sweet brown note of vanilla creaminess and sweetness. It has the spicy peppery notes that all high rye whiskeys are known for in the finish, but ours is muted with dried fig, raisin and cherry fruitiness.”

The Romulan Ale Rye Whiskey can be ordered now for $85 USD per bottle, with shipments expected to begin in December 2022.

The second release is a lighter-blue colored Vodka product , with “a hint of corn sweetness, with higher notes from a plump smell of good wheat grain.”

“Distilled from premium Midwest grain, the vodka is produced in the Napa Area, distilled four times in a stainless steel still, to 192 proof to ensure a clean distillation of only the heart of the vodka then cut to 80 proofs for bottling.   Put together by a family of thirteen generation distillers, there are no trace of off notes or the smell of rubbing alcohol that many vodkas suffer from. A carefully done distillation. Touch of corn sweetness with the higher notes from a plump smell of good wheat grain.   Our Romulan Ale Blue Vodka has a fantastic electric blue appearance, with no sediment whatsoever. On swirling, it leaves a phenomenal blue coat on the inside of the glass with long thin legs. Wonderful bright appearance.   Unlike several other vodkas, this one is not highly filtered so you have a great body and mouthfeel that would otherwise be lost.
