Taylor Swift Eras tour in London 2024: everything we know so far

The star has just added two new Wembley dates

Amy Houghton

Londoners arise: Taylor Swift is finally returning to the capital after what will be a six-year hiatus. While the first portion of the pop star’s Eras tour did not reach overseas, Taylor Swift has since released international dates and is coming to Wembley Stadium in the summer of 2024, supported by pop punk icons Paramore.

Social media has provided UK Swifties with a few glimpses of what to expect from the shows, which last a whopping three hours, feature TayTay's biggest hits of her career, a couple of surprise songs and some truly epic stage production. Sadly, July turned into a ‘Cruel Summer’ for many fans who failed to secure tickets for her British dates. But today (November 14) the star has announced two new shows at Wembley Stadium so thousands of the disappointed fans may still be in with a chance. Here’s what you need to know.

RECOMMENDED:  Expert tips to get tickets for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in the UK

Taylor Swift London tour dates as new shows added

The new Wembley Stadium dates are August 19 and August 20. Tickets can’t be accessed by just anyone though — they will only be available to a limited number of fans who registered for London shows earlier this year.

If you’re one of the Lucky Ones (Taylor's Version), you should receive an email from today (November 14), with sales for August 19 going live at 2pm and for August 20 going live at the same time on November 15. Obviously demand will still be super high, so getting an email does not guarantee you tickets. You’ll still have to approach the whole thing with some strategic planning so we definitely recommend checking out our  top tips for securing Taylor tickets .

When is Taylor Swift’s Eras tour coming to London?

Get ready! Taylor Swift has recently announced her international arena show dates for summer 2024. These include eight London dates: June 21, June 22, June 23, August 16, August 17, August 19 and August 20.

How can I get tickets to the London shows and how much do they cost?

All London tickets for the initial dates went on sale Tuesday July 18 at 2pm. Fans were able to register until June 22 at 11:59 pm. Registration will have provided you with a unique code, which is meant to help you nab tickets at given dates and times. Having registered will hopefully secure you a ticket, but does not guarantee one.

Tickets for the new dates are being release 2pm today (November 14) and tomorrow (November 15).

Tickets ranged in price from around £59 (for partial or obstructed view tickets) to £110 for general admission standing. Front standing was priced at about £172, while seated tickets went up to  £194.

If you’re after VIP packages, the prices apparently went all the way up to £662.40. And that’s  per person . Damn.

Any news on the setlist?

The concert, as previously seen in the States, is a whopping 44 songs long, all taken from her 10 albums representing the ‘eras’ of her music career. The tracks include the likes of ‘Cruel Summer’, ‘The Man’, ‘You Belong With Me’, ‘Love Story’, ‘champagne problems’, ‘22’, ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’, ‘All Too Well’, ‘betty’, ‘Shake It Off’, ‘Lavender Haze’, ‘Anti-Hero’, ‘Karma’ and 31 other bangers.

Where else is Taylor Swift playing in the UK as part of the 2024 Eras tour?

She is also performing in Edinburgh, Liverpool and Cardiff throughout July. You can find out everything about the rest of the UK part of Taylor Swift’s Eras tour right here .

Good luck!

The time has finally come for you to experience Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour as tickets will soon go on sale for UK fans. But first there are some important things you should know ahead of time to make sure the process is as smooth as possible, and to give you the best chance of getting your hands on those all-important tickets.

Firstly, you must register to get access to all ticket sales for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour

Ticket Sale Registration is being used to filter out buyers looking to resell tickets and prioritise genuine fans like you, ensuring that tickets go directly into the hands of those who truly want to attend the show.

It’s also important to note that Ticket Sale Registration does not guarantee access to the sale, or to tickets. We expect there will be more demand than there are tickets available, meaning only a limited number of fans will gain access to the sale. Fans not selected at first will be placed on a waitlist and may receive an invitation to join the sale if further tickets become available.

On 5 July, you will be contacted by the promoter, AEG Presents, confirming next steps.

The label pre-sale is ONLY open to fans who participated in the UK store Midnights pre-order offer between Monday 29 August 2022 and Thursday 27 October 2022. Taylor Swift Taps Paramore for European Eras Tour Run

Taylor Swift knows we need more — so she’s giving us just that. The singer has added 14 more shows to the European/U.K. leg of her Eras Tour , and announced that Paramore will provide support throughout the trek.

“Really can’t contain my excitement because… we’re adding 14 new shows to The Eras Tour,” Swift wrote on Twitter Wednesday, July 5. “And I get to travel the world doing shows with @paramore !! Hayley and I have been friends since we were teens in Nashville and now we get to frolic around the UK/Europe next summer??? I’m screaming???”

Last month, Swift added dozens of shows to her Taylor Swift: The Eras stadium tour — bringing the total count of shows to a whooping 104 nights . She also extended her run at Los Angeles’ So-Fi Stadium with a sixth show scheduled for Aug. 7.

The new addition comes after the singer announced shows in Japan, Australia, Singapore, and Europe earlier this week. (See below for the full tour dates.)

“EXCUSE ME HI I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY 🙋‍♀️,” she wrote on Instagram. “I can’t wait to see so many of you on The Eras Tour next year at these new international dates!”

She also added more dates to her already-announced Latin America tour. After wrapping her U.S. dates in Los Angeles on Aug. 9, Swift will head to Mexico City for four straight shows at Foro Sol starting Aug. 24. She’ll then stop in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and both Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo in Brazil in November.

Swift first announced the tour last October after she completely took over the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 with Midnights . The added dates, which follow the addition of eight new shows last week, were slotted in “due to unprecedented demand,” according to the singer’s camp.

“Good Morning America, it’s Taylor,” Swift said during the announcement. “I wanted to tell you something that I’ve been so excited about for a really long time and I’ve been planning for ages, and I finally get to tell you I’m going back on tour. The tour is called the ‘Eras’ tour, and it’s a journey through all of my musical eras of my career.”

The tour began on March 17 in Glendale, Arizona and extends through Aug. 9, where the singer will wrap with a fifth night at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Swift still has stops left in Detroit, Minneapolis, Cincinnati, Seattle, and Santa Clara.

Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff Have Reached Their Limit

Pitbull is ready to ‘party after dark’ on north american tour, from vmas drama to 'thank you aimee': a timeline of taylor swift's feud with kim kardashian, kanye west.

Across the tour, Swift is being supported in select cities by a combination of special guests including Paramore, beabadoobee, Phoebe Bridgers, girl in red, MUNA, HAIM, GAYLE, Gracie Abrams, and OWENN.

The Eras tour follows the cancelation of her planned 2020 Lover Fest tour, which was originally going to see her make stadium stops in Los Angeles, Boston, and New York, along with Brazil, Denmark, Norway, and Poland. “This is an unprecedented pandemic that has changed everyone’s plans and no one knows what the touring landscape is going to look like in the near future,” she wrote in 2021.

Swift last went the road in 2018 for her massive Reputation Stadium Tour , which saw Swift accompanied by the likes of Charli XCX and Camila Cabello across the United States, the United Kingdom, along with Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. The tour was the highest-grossing music tour by a female artist that year.

Since her last tour, Swift has released four albums and two re-releases: Lover , Folklore , Evermore , Midnights , and Taylor’s Version editions of Fearless and Red with additional songs. In total, she’s dropped 90 tracks of new material, not including collaborations with the likes of Haim and Big Red Machine.

Fans have long wondered what music she’ll be performing on the road, with some theorizing that she’d host a residency in Las Vegas or a music festival where she’d perform different “eras” on different nights.

Along with packing her setlist with songs from Reputation in 2018, she surprised each city with an acoustic rendition of fan favorites like “Red,” “Holy Ground,” and “Wildest Dreams.” At select shows, she also brought out special guests. Shawn Mendes, Selena Gomez, Hayley Kiyoko, and Maren Morris were among the artists to be brought out by Swift.

The stadium tour was accompanied by a concert film released on New Year’s Eve that year.

She previously took her 1989 album on the road for 85 dates, where she was accompanied by the likes of Mendes, James Bay, Vance Joy, and Haim. Before then was The Red Tour in 2013 and 2014, and her Speak Now World Tour from 2011 to 2012.

Taylor Swift loves the English.

The pop star has added two more London dates — Aug. 19 and 20 — to the European leg of her record-breaking Eras Tour . This brings Swift’s shows in London next year up to a total of eight, starting with three dates in June and followed by five more in August. All of Swift’s London concerts will take place at Wembley Stadium with support from Paramore.

In Paramore’s announcement of the extra shows , the rock band shared that “a limited number of fans who previously registered for shows in London will be selected for access to the sale and will receive notifications via email starting today.”

“I love that you brought presents and that is so nice, but just can you please not throw them on the stage,” Swift said. “I love you so much.”

Swift will next play six shows in Brazil before taking a break for the holidays. In February, the Eras Tour will start back up in Tokyo before heading to Australia.

The Eras tour is the sixth headlining concert from Taylor Swift and has been described by the singer-songwriter as a journey through all of her "musical eras". The tour is a tribute to all of Swift's studio albums to date, including her latest, 'Midnights', and those that did not have a tour due to the pandemic, including Lover, Folklore and Evermore.

The singer kicked off the record-breaking tour back in March, impressing loyal fans - or Swifties as they're better know - with a staggering 44-strong setlist lasting over three hours. When the tour does finally arrive on our shores, we're set for quite the show.

Those who have attended dates on her US leg have already seen her smash out hits through a torrential storm, dive head first into the stage, and tease the release of her next rerecorded album, ‘Speak Now: Taylor’s Version’. She’s also been joined by special guests including Ice Spice, Phoebe Bridgers, and Jack Antonoff, and performed a number of surprise tracks from her massive back catalogue as well as new tracks including 'Lavender Haze' and 'Midnight Rain'.

The American songstress also recently announced tour dates in South America - where Sabrina Carpenter will open for her. The tour is currently stopping off in locations across North America, before heading to Mexico, Argentina and Brazil in late 2023.

How to get tickets

The registration process is now open and fans can register on each city’s official ticket registration page here up until Thursday, June 22, at 11.59pm local time in the UK. Registered fans who receive a unique code will have first access to purchase tickets in each city on the specified on-sale dates and times listed below. Fans who want an opportunity to access tickets in multiple cities should register once for each city they would like to attend.

However, registration does not guarantee access to the sale or to tickets. Additional information on the registration process can be found at Taylorswift.com/tour by clicking through to each city.

Fans who participated in the Taylor Swift UK store Midnights album pre-order offer will qualify for special pre-sale access to all UK and Ireland shows and will be officially communicated with via the email supplied at checkout. Taylor Swift Eras tour: When is the pop star performing in the UK?

Taylor Swift will soon launch the European, UK and Ireland legs of her record-breaking Eras tour.

Over the past year, the 34-year-old pop star has been performing her career-spanning shows at stadiums around the world, including North America, Tokyo, Melbourne, Sydney and Singapore.

A month after the release of her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Society, she will continue the Eras tour with four nights in Paris at the La Défense Arena.

After this, she will perform two shows in Lisbon, Portugal, then a further two nights in Madrid, Spain, and Lyon, France.

UK-based fans (and those travelling to see Swift from overseas) will then get to see her live during three nights from 7 to 9 June at the Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh, Scotland, before she heads to Liverpool and Cardiff.

Swift is booked to perform a staggering eight shows at Wembley Stadium in London, with the first three taking place between 21 and 23 June, before she returns for the final five nights of her UK and Europe tour between 15 and 20 August.

In between those, she will have also played in Dublin, Ireland, in Amsterdam, Zurich, Milan, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg and Munich in Germany, Warsaw in Poland, and Vienna, Austria.

Ticketmaster recently announced a major update for fans with tickets to see Swift this summer.

All UK and Ireland dates will be supported by US rock band Paramore.

In a five-star review of the very first show of Swift’s Eras tour , critic Kelsey Barnes wrote how the US star guided fans through more than a decade’s worth of “her best work”.

“Her ‘Eras Tour’ was designed as a journey through that staggering back catalogue of 10 albums, from her earlier country twang on her self-titled debut to the shift to synth-pop on 1989 , then to the subdued folk and alt-rock of Folklore and Evermore ,” she wrote.

“Throughout the opening night of the tour, it frequently feels as though the audience is being caught up with Swift’s past, present and future. In the 44-song setlist that spans three hours and 15 minutes, she shows why the “era” concept is so integral to who she is. Each chapter marks a specific shift in her artistry.”

The Tortured Poets Department, released on 19 April, is the pop titan’s 11th studio album. It appears to have been inspired, in part, by the five stages of grief. Ahead of the release, Swift shared five new playlists that arrange her songs into those stages: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.

“These songs represent making room for more good in your life,” she says in a brief audio message that accompanied the final playlist, acceptance. “Making that choice. Because a lot of time when we lose things, we gain things too.”

When can you buy resale tickets for Taylor Swift’s London Eras Tour dates?

the eras tour london dates

There is another chance to get tickets for the UK leg of Taylor Swift’s Eras tour with a resale being held on Tuesday.

Hundreds of thousands of seats at some of the country’s largest stadiums sold out in minutes when they went on sale on July 17 - including her six dates at Wembley Stadium.

Fans were subjected to a booking process that required a pre-registration code and also required a loophole that meant the buyer had to attend - which caught out some who had asked a relative to book for them.

However, unlucky fans will get another chance on Tuesday. Ticketmaster and AXS will be holding a resale from 4pm and all one needs to do is register with the sites in advance and then be prepared to wait in a lengthy queue.

Tickets are being sold by buyers who wish to sell their tickets. Potential sellers have been emailed by Ticketmaster and AXS with instructions and the ticket websites have confirmed that tickets are only able to be resold via official partners.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Eras tour and when you can buy resale tickets.

Taylor Swift and Matty Healy's Relationship Timeline

Swift and Healy dated for a few months in 2023, which she recounts on 'The Tortured Poets Department' album

the eras tour london dates

Taylor Swift and Matty Healy 's short-lived relationship sparked a lot of conversation.

The musicians initially met in the fall of 2014 but didn't date until years later.

Shortly after The 1975 frontman was spotted attending Swift's Eras Tour in Nashville in May 2023, the two were photographed holding hands at New York City's Casa Cipriani, where they were out with mutual friend and collaborator Jack Antonoff .

Their relationship came just a month after PEOPLE confirmed Swift's split from longtime boyfriend Joe Alwyn , which a source told PEOPLE was a result of "differences in their personalities ."

Following their whirlwind romance, PEOPLE confirmed the "Karma" singer and 1975 frontman broke up in June, noting their relationship was "always casual."

Most recently, Swift recounted the highs and lows of their relationship on The Tortured Poets Department album.

From the beginnings of their friendship to their short-lived romance, here's a timeline of Swift and Healy's relationship through the years.

November 19, 2014: Taylor Swift and Matty Healy first meet

Swift reportedly first met Healy when she attended a 1975 concert in Los Angeles along with pals Selena Gomez and Ellie Goulding . Swift later shared photos and a video from the concert on Nov. 21, captioning the since-deleted post with lyrics from the band's song "The City": "Yeah you wanna find love, Then you know where the city is."

November 22, 2014: Taylor Swift wears The 1975 merch

A few days after the 1975 concert, Swift was photographed wearing the band's merch during an outing in Los Angeles ahead of her performance at the American Music Awards. Earlier that month, Healy had also rocked a shirt featuring Swift's 1989 album cover on stage, further prompting speculation about their relationship.

November 29, 2014: Matty Healy says he would date Taylor Swift

Following Swift's appearance at the 1975 concert, Healy was asked about the singer during a radio interview with Shazam Top 20, during which he revealed that they exchanged numbers at the Los Angeles show.

When the DJ inquired about them possibly dating, Healy replied, "Let's just see what happens," per E! News . He added, "I mean bloody hell, what am I going to do? Go out with Taylor Swift ? She's a sensation, I wouldn't say no."

Earlier that October, Swift had maintained that she was happily single during an interview with E! News. "It's not that [I've sworn off dating] as much as I'm just very protective of my happiness," Swift told the publication. "I found a place in my life that feels really great and I'm not willing to compromise that for just anyone, and so, you can paraphrase that all you want into something very extreme, but they make what I say extreme no matter what I say."

She added, "So I'm really happy about the fact that being single doesn't feel like being alone. I have love in my life, I just don't have a relationship, and that feels really natural right now."

December 4, 2014: Taylor Swift attends another The 1975 concert with Karlie Kloss

In early December, just a few days before her 25th birthday, Swift attended another 1975 concert in N.Y.C. alongside Karlie Kloss and Lily Aldridge. Following Healy's comments about Swift, the outing sparked even more rumors that the pair were an item .

January 20, 2015: Matty Healy shuts down Taylor Swift dating rumors

A month later, Healy publicly shut down rumors he was dating Swift during a radio interview with Australia's 2DayFM. "It's fake," he said, per E! News . "It's all bloody fake. It's a farce!"

"We met each other, we exchanged numbers in the same way that a lot of people in this kind of world do, and we spoke occasionally," he continued. "She's the biggest pop star in the world and I'm in Australia. There's no relationship or anything happening. It's just funny how people really, really buy into that."

February 25, 2015: Taylor Swift and Matty Healy hang out at a Universal Music Brits party

After diffusing dating rumors, the two hung out as friends at a pop-up event held at London's Soho House for Universal Music Brits. March 2016: Matty Healy clarifies Taylor Swift comments

Speaking with Q magazine, Healy opened up about his rumored romance with Swift, calling the connection a "flirtation."

"I don't do anything else [besides music], right, so it doesn't leave a lot of room for me going out, or shagging someone," he told the publication, per NME . "So the one time I did have a flirtation with a girl it ends up going everywhere…. I mean, I got on E! News and people were like, 'Who's Matt Healy?' so that was cool."

He continued, "If I had gone out with Taylor Swift I would've been, 'F---ing hell! I am NOT being Taylor Swift 's boyfriend.' You know, 'F---. THAT.' That's also a man thing, a de-masculinating, emasculating thing."

Shortly after the interview was published, Healy wrote an open letter saying that his comments were being taken out of context. He also detailed how dating rumors between him and Swift quickly escalated in the media.

"Since she came to my show in December of 2014, I would say that 90 percent of journalists that have interviewed me have asked about either her as a person or what our 'interaction' was like," he wrote, per Elle . "I have said on countless occasions that I found her to be one of the most gracious, hard working, creatively gifted, and beautiful women that I have had the pleasure to meet. I personally have a lot of respect and admiration for her. Why would I not?"

He continued, "I didn't even date Taylor, but the media's incessant and brutal obsession with her has meant that even a guy who DIDN'T DATE HER has been so battered by their never-ending questions that he's inevitably said something that can be lifted and molded into something that resembles 'shade'. It's really sad."

September 2022: Matty Healy shuts down rumors of a Taylor Swift collab on Midnights

Ahead of the release of Swift's Midnights album , Healy found himself connected to the singer once again as rumors circulated that The 1975 would be featured on the album . However, much to fans' dismay, Healy shut down the rumors, writing, "I would love that! But unfortunately FAKE NEWS :("

After the crowd booed Healy's revelation, the "About You" singer was quick to defend Swift, telling them, "It was for reasons that are not to be criticized ... She's amazing."

April 8, 2023: PEOPLE confirms Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have broken up

In April 2023, PEOPLE confirmed that Swift had broken up with her longtime boyfriend Joe Alwyn . A source close to the Grammy winner and the Conversations with Friends actor told PEOPLE their split was largely caused by "differences in their personalities ."

"They've had rough patches before and always worked things out, so friends thought they would take some time apart but eventually come back together," the source said, noting that "ultimately" Swift and Alwyn "weren't the right fit for one another."

The source added that Swift's superstardom was another factor in the split: "Joe has struggled with Taylor's level of fame and the attention from the public."

May 2023: Matty Healy attends Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in Nashville

In May 2023, Swift and Healy found themselves at the center of dating rumors once again as The Sun reported they were seeing each other. Shortly after the dating rumors surfaced, Healy was spotted attending several shows at Swift's Eras Tour in Nashville.

In photos from the Saturday concert, Swift's pal Gigi Hadid could be seen playfully rubbing Healy's shoulders as he smiled and held his hand to his chest during Swift's performance.

Earlier that night, Healy joined opener Phoebe Bridgers for her set, as he wore the Grammy nominee's go-to skeleton onesie and played guitar throughout her time on stage.

June 5, 2023: Taylor Swift and Matty Healy break up

In June, PEOPLE confirmed that Swift and Healy have broken up . "She had fun with him, but it was always casual," a source told PEOPLE. "They are no longer romantically involved."

"They were never boyfriend-girlfriend or exclusive and were always just having fun," another insider tells PEOPLE. "There is no drama, and who knows what could happen again. It was a good time and ran its course."

July 2023: Taylor Swift and Matty Healy reconciliation rumor gets shut down

Just a month after their split, it was reported that the two were back together. However, a source quickly shut down that rumor to PEOPLE . "They are absolutely not together and aren't even in contact anymore," the source close to Swift explained. "She is enjoying being single and has been spending time in the studio and hanging out with friends in New York City. This is all B.S."

April 19, 2024: Taylor Swift sings about Matty Healy on The Tortured Poets Department album

In addition to recounting how her six-year relationship with Alwyn came to an end, Swift also details her short-lived romance with Healy in the spring of 2023. On “Guilty as Sin?” Swift sings about having strong romantic feelings for someone from her past while in a relationship with someone else, seemingly noting that she was already crushing on Healy before her relationship with Alwyn officially ended.

Then on “Fresh Out the Slammer,” Swift sings about feeling ready and able to dive into a new romance after exiting a different relationship that was holding her back. The song also hints that her new love is not American, as she sings that she’s returning “to the one who says I’m the girl of his American dreams.” (Both Healy and  Alwyn are English .)

She also appears to address the intense criticism that surrounded their relationship with the track “I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)” (on which she convinces herself that she can change her man's ways in spite of the world thinking he's bad news).

On “loml,” Swift reveals the relationship was not meant to last as sings about rekindling an old flame, only to see the relationship crash and burn.

“It was legendary / It was momentary / It was unnecessary / Should’ve let it stay buried,” she sings. “Oh what a valiant roar / What a bland goodbye / The coward claimed he was a lion / I’m combing through the braids of lies / ‘I’ll never leave’ / ‘Nevermind.’”

Sainsbury's is having technical issues again - with shoppers taking to social media to say their deliveries have been delayed or cancelled.

The supermarket has been replying to customers saying: "I'm really sorry about the tech issues this morning.

"We're aware of the situation and are working to sort it as quickly as possible. In the meantime, we'd advise you place a new order for a future date."

A potential $38.8bn (£31bn) takeover of UK-based mining company Anglo American has sent its shares soaring - and helped the FTSE 100 hit yet another record high this morning.

The attempted buyout, by larger Australian rival BHP, is currently being reviewed by Anglo American's board.

The deal, if it goes through, would create the world's biggest copper mining company.

As news emerged of the negotiations, Anglo American's shares shot up 13% during early trading on Thursday.

It also spurred the FTSE 100 to an intraday (during the day) high of 8,098 points.

The index, of the London Stock Exchange's 100 most valuable companies, has hit a string of records this week, including an all-time closing high of 8,044 points on Tuesday.

Also moving the markets are a string of company results which have been published this morning.

Among them is drugmaker AstraZeneca. Its stock is up more than 5% after it reported quarterly profit and revenue above market estimates.

Unilever is also up 5% following similar better-than-expected quarterly figures.

Another good performer is Barclays bank - despite reporting a 12% fall in profits for the first three months of 2024.

Confidence among investors has been boosted because the figure is better than expected, and the bank has said it expects its fortunes to improve later this year.

Every week we get experts to answer your Money Problems - usually on a Monday, but today we have a short, bonus addition in light of multiple lenders raising mortgage rates this week on fears an interest rate cut could be delayed to a little later this year (note: many economists still think it will come in summer).

A few readers have got in touch with questions similar to this one...

My remortgage is due to complete on 1 May. I already have an offer but with rates going up, is there any way at all my offer rate could increase? Saz681

We asked David Hollingworth, director at L&C Mortgages, to answer this one...

It's great news that you are already set up with a mortgage offer, Saz - ready to make a smooth switch to a new deal and/or lender, once the current one ends.

It does take time to set up a new mortgage so shopping around the market a good few months ahead will help you put everything in place and avoid slipping onto a high variable rate.

Fixed rates have been nudging up slightly but you have already got a formal offer in place so shouldn't worry.

Applying for a mortgage will generally secure that rate and the lender will then carry out any further checks to issue the mortgage offer.

The offer will be valid for a specified period, often for up to six months. Rates are always shifting for new customers but you can rest easy that your rate should be safe and sound for your switch in May.

Interest in a phenomenon known as "dark tourism" has been steadily rising in recent years - but what is it?

To find out, we've spoken with tourism academic  Dr Hayley Stainton  and renowned dark tourist and author Dr Peter Hohenhaus, who runs a  dark tourism website .

What is it?

In general, dark tourism involves travelling to sites connected to death or disaster.

"Dark tourism has been around for as long as we have been travelling to places associated with death," Dr Stainton says.

However, the term wasn't officially coined until 1996 by John Lennon, a professor of tourism at Glasgow Caledonian University, in Scotland.

"Not everyone is familiar with the term," says Dr Stainton, "[but] many people have been a dark tourist at some time or another, whether intentional or not."

Some examples of the most famous sites

  • Auschwitz concentration camp, Poland
  • 9/11 Memorial and Museum in New York, US
  • Chernobyl, Ukraine
  • Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan
  • Choeung Ek "killing fields" and the Tuol Sleng genocide museum at the former S-21 prison in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Areas with a degree of infamy, like Alcatraz, are extremely popular spots that also fall under the "dark tourism" umbrella.

How popular is it?

Dr Hohenhaus and Dr Stainton say they have noticed a rise in its popularity.

"Tourists are looking for more unique and unusual experiences," Dr Stainton says.

"This has seen a move away from the more traditional 'sun, sea and sand' type holidays to a variety of different tourism forms, which includes dark tourism."

Dr Hohenhaus adds: "Maybe people want to connect to more recent and hence more personally relevant history - that is definitely the case with myself."

He goes on: "I think I've learned more about the world through dark tourism than through all of my formal education or my previous academic career."

Is it ethical?

This is the big question associated with dark tourism.

Dr Stainton says that while problems do arise, the stigma around the practice is often misguided.

"People don't visit sites like the killing fields in Cambodia or the site of Chernobyl for 'fun' - they visit for the educational experience, as dark tourism is often also a form of educational tourism," she says.

Problems arise when tourists are not respectful to those who may have been impacted.

"For instance, taking inappropriate photos or laughing and joking when others may be in a state of mourning."

Notorious examples include people taking selfies outside Grenfell Tower and at Auschwitz.

"It is therefore imperative that dark tourists are considerate of those around them and respectful at all times," Dr Stainton says.

"As long as you are not just after a cheap sensationalist thrill - take dark tourism seriously and do it right, and it can be an immensely enriching thing to engage in."  Dr Hohenhaus

Where could you go?

These are Dr Hohenhaus' recommendations:

  • Ijen crater in Indonesia - where at night you can see the fabled blue flames of the sulphur mines next to the volcano crater lake;
  • The Polygon, the former Semipalatinsk nuclear weapons test site of the USSR, now in Kazakhstan;
  • The Goli Otok former prison island off the coast of Croatia;
  • The Murambi memorial to the Rwandan genocide - which Dr Hohenhaus says is "certainly the very darkest place I have ever been";
  • Majdanek concentration camp memorial near Lublin, eastern Poland.

What do you think of dark tourism? Is it misunderstood, educational or abhorrent?  Let us know in the comments section...

John Lewis will be sharing its job interview questions online in an attempt to find the "best talent".

The retail chain hopes that allowing candidates to view questions before an interview will allow prospective employees to "really demonstrate what they can do" and prepare, the Financial Times reports.

John Lewis talent acquisition lead Lorna Bullett told the paper that interviews can feel daunting and "nerves can seriously impact performance".

She said the company wanted "the right people" from a variety of backgrounds and with "the best talent" to join.

"It makes absolute business sense to find ways of helping candidates to really demonstrate what they can do," she said.

Ms Bullett added that the process will be "no less rigorous".

Every Thursday we look at a different savings option, explain the pros and cons, and reveal the best deals on the market.  This week we're talking about the best fixed-rate bonds.  Savings Champion founder Anna Bowes  says...

As the name suggests, fixed-rate bonds pay a fixed rate of interest for a fixed term and this interest is taxable at your normal rate – if you exceed your personal savings allowances.

Over the last couple of years, fixed-rate bond rates have increased substantially and many of the top rates are now paying more than inflation, although this may not be the case for those who pay tax on their savings.

That said, the competition has slowed recently as it appears that inflation is more under control, and as a result the Bank of England base rate is expected to start to fall. We have seen the top rates on offer start to come down a little.

What is interesting and a little unusual is that the longer-term bond rates are lower than the short-term rates. Normally you would expect to be rewarded for tying your money up for longer, but that's not the case at the moment. This is a clear indication that the base rate is expected to fall over the next few months and years.

Locking into a longer-term bond, even at lower rates, may turn out to be a very wise move, especially if the interest you are earning is beating inflation for the duration of the bond.

MPs have voted in favour of the government's Renters' Reform Bill - despite it including an indefinite delay to the end of no-fault evictions.

A debate on the legislation ran throughout Wednesday afternoon, including around a new clause from the government which would hold off outlawing Section 21s until a review of the courts system had taken place.

But despite outrage from charities, campaigners and opposition parties around the measure, it got the backing of the majority of MPs - and the bill passed its final stage in the Commons shortly after 6.30pm.

A Section 21 notice is the legal mechanism allowing landlords to evict tenants without providing a reason, which creates uncertainty for those who rent their homes.

The government first promised to ban the notices five years ago, back when Theresa May was still in Number 10.

But it has faced numerous delays amid threats of rebellion from Tory backbenchers - some of them landlords - who said they feared ending Section 21s would see the courts overwhelmed with more complex eviction cases.

Ministers agreed to amend the bill to ensure no ban was enacted until a probe into the courts had been held.

But the clause offers no timeline - leaving no clear date for when Section 21s will actually be scrapped.

Ryanair is suing air traffic control body Nats over last summer's flight chaos when more than 700,000 passengers were hit by cancellations and delays.

The low-cost carrier's chief executive Michael O'Leary said his company had been forced to pay out around £15m in compensation following the  widespread disruption  around the August Bank Holiday Monday.

An investigation into the meltdown found it was caused by a  National Air Traffic Services (Nats) technical glitch .

Around 300,000 people suffered cancellations, while approximately 95,000 endured delays of over three hours, and at least a further 300,000 were hit by shorter delays.

Airlines lost a total of £100m in refunds, rebookings, hotel rooms and refreshments.

Mr O'Leary told Sky's  Business Live with Ian King : "When things go wrong in the airline industry, we have to compensate our passengers and we want to recover those costs directly from Nats."

A spokeswoman for Nats told Sky News: "Our legal team is reviewing the claim and will respond as required."

Yesterday we reported on a Which? survey ranking Virgin Media as having the worst overall customer service among broadband providers...

Virgin Media hit back - saying the annual survey used a sample size of 0.01% of its customer base, and on average 95% of customer complaints were resolved during a customer's first initial call.

And they told the Money blog improvements were being made to customer service...

"We are investing and making changes across our business to deliver tangible customer service improvements and ensure all customers receive the best possible service," the company said.

"For example, we're multi-skilling our teams and rolling out new IT platforms that make it easier for customers to get support and have issues resolved the first time they get in touch."

Our comments section has been bombarded with people saying they are Virgin Media customers and sharing their experiences - all but two were negative.

Here's a selection...

Virgin Media broadband keeps dropping down in speed, sometimes it drops out all day. Phoning them makes no difference. We will change supplier when our contract is up. Alan Francis
I completely agree. I've had a year of unbelievably bad service relating to the installation of broadband in our new house. It's impossible to communicate with Virgin Media without severe trauma. Everything goes through one number into an automated system that simply doesn't work. Frank
Been with Virgin Media for 13 years and they have really dropped in customer service, they don't value loyalty and all their call handlers seem to be working from home. If there is a problem they transfer you to somebody else who you have to explain your issue to again. Plumby
We moved from Virgin Media for our broadband/TV a few years ago for precisely that reason - very poor customer service. Carol Bell
I left Virgin this week too. New customers get a good price whilst existing customers see prices triple. Non-UK call centre that just pass you around when anything goes wrong. Just cancelling took an hour on the phone. Glad there are new fibre providers in my area. Digger
Current Virgin Media customer and it gives me anxiety knowing I have to call them as it takes too long to get anyone on the call or they have disconnected me, or they say they cannot help and transfer me to another department and then drop the call. LisaJ

A reader calling themselves GH was more positive, saying: "I have just renewed with Virgin Media, great customer service."

And Wells85 said: "I am a Virgin customer and have been for the last nearly seven years and I think their broadband service is top notch and their customer service."

There are only a few weeks left until all cats in England need to be microchipped.

From 10 June, every moggie must have a chip and be registered on a database by the time they are 20 weeks old.

The numbered device, which shows up whenever an animal is scanned, is placed under the skin, usually around the shoulder area.

It is likely to cost £20-£30 and will be used to identify your cat if it gets lost.

Owners who miss the deadline could be fined up to £500.

There are also fears that pet insurance may be affected - if, for example, your cat is stolen and you make a claim.

There are more than nine million pet cats in England, and up to 2.3 million are unchipped, the environment department said.

Your feline's microchip "must be fitted by a trained professional", the government website says.

Vets, local councils, rescue and rehoming centres may all be able to help.

Owners are asked to keep the chip information up to date - for example, if they move house.

There are various databases that meet government standards on which to register the chip, including Animal Data, Animal Tracker and Lost Paws.
