Vengaboys confirm Scottish dates for their world tour next spring

Dutch dance group Vengaboys have announced Scotland dates on their world tour for next year.

The group are due to play at Cooper Park, Elgin next spring on 16 April 2022 as well as headlining Lanarkshire 's Stereofunk festival on its return on April 30.

The world tour for the group begins tomorrow with a show in Canada, before touring round the UK , USA, European hot spots like Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Denmark and more.

A spokesperson for the council told The Sun: “We can confirm we have received an application for a temporary Public Entertainment Licence for Cooper Park, which is currently open for consultation via our licensing portal."

They topped the '90s charts with dance anthems like Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!, We're Going to Ibiza, and We Like to Party.

And The Vengaboys have brought the party spirit into 2023 as they are set to return to the UK this year for their 25th anniversary, performing at a slew of music festivals around the country.

The Dutch group, who are known for their flamboyant fashion and beat-heavy hits, are currently making their way across Australia on a tour.

Female vocalists Kim Sasabone and Denise Post-Van Rijswijk join male vocalists Robin Pors and Donny Latupeirissa to make up the dance quartet, which previously included Roy den Burger.

But as they travel all the way from Down Under for an epic return, what have they been up in the two decades since their initial fame, and what do they look like now?

The Vengaboys will touch down in the United Kingdom this April - with their first stop a city that knows how to party, Glasgow.

Taking to Glasgow's Braehead Arena, The Vengaboys will be the support act for Scottish EDM group The Time Frequency on April 22, with tickets available online from £49.29.

Next stop, Dorset. The band will also perform at 3-day family friendly festival Teddy Rocks on Friday 28 April.

The Vengaboys will the bring the nostalgia at London festivals 90's Super Show and Mighty Hoopla.

Held at the capital's Indigo at The O2, 90's Super Show is on Saturday 29 April and will also see Ace Of The Base's Jenny Berggren and Swedish group Rednex perform.

While they will perform at London festival Mighty Hoopla on Sunday 4 June, which will also welcome Years & Years, Aqua, Kelly Rowland,Natasha Bedingfield and Sophie Ellis-Bexter.

Throughout April until October, the band will be travelling across Scotland, Ireland and England for a slew of appearances - including Elgin's  Macmoray Easter Festival, Brighton's Noughty 90's Festival and Butlins' 90S Reloaded in Somerset.

What do The Vengaboys look like now?

They were party-hard twenty-somethings during their rise to fame back in the late 1990s.

But would you recognise The Vengaboys over 20 years on?

Denise looks almost unrecognisable as she is now a blonde diva, having ditched the red locks she was previously known for.

The beauty looks a far cry from her chart-topping days as she often leaves her lighter locks in a stunning curl, but still rocks the same unique style - with bright jumpsuits and latex remaining a staple in her wardrobe.

She is now a mother-of-two, sharing son Jayden and daughter River Mae with her partner of 22 years Winston Post, beginning a romance with the Dutch actor in the height of her fame.

She now shares a son, Joveyn, with her DJ partner Nick Kazemian - often posting sweet family snaps to her 18.2K Instagram followers.

Roy den Burger was an original member of The Vengaboys, before being replaced by Donny Latupeirissa in the 2000s.

And while Roy may not be rocking a cowboy look like he did back then, he still looks very similar to his days in the band - now opting for a fuller stubble and glasses. 

Despite no longer looking fresh-shaven and bright eyed, Robin Pors, 45, appears to have hardly aged a day since the band's peak.

He now lives in Amsterdam too and often shares loved up snaps with partner Silvain.

What have The Vengaboys been up to since rising to fame?

The band were thrust into the limelight in 1998 when their hit We Like To Party p eaked at number 1 in Belgium, before Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom topped the UK charts a year later.

After four albums, the group temporarily disbanded in 2002, as Denise then went on to welcome her first child, Jayden, during the hiatus. 

The band then reunited in 2006, with Roy, who later embarked on a career as cabin crew at Dutch airline KLM, being replaced by Donny as he didn't return to the group. 

Speaking previously on his decision to leave, Roy shared: 'I wanted to experience the world as myself, without any bodyguards, without any promotional people, without any record company people'.

Roy now goes by the surname of Connors on social media and is still enjoying life as a Cabin Attendant, while performing as drag queen Crystal Connors between flights.

As the Vengaboys returned with new member Donny, they began to once again hit the club scene in 2006. 

The band released new singles in 2010 and 2013, before creating a Christmas album in November 2014.

While they then supported Steps on their Party on the Dancefloor Tour In November and December of 2017.

And now that it's been 25 years since they began, The Vengaboys have enjoyed a 25th Anniversary tour around Australia, before coming to the UK later this year.

Vengaboys announce Scottish shows as part of new world tour

NINETIES cult favourites the Vengaboys have announced they will be performing in Elgin next spring.

The Dutch fourpiece delighted fans earlier today, saying online that they will due to play at Cooper Park on April 16, 2022.

Most well known for their nineties hits Boom Boom Boom Boom, We Like to Party and We're Going To Ibiza, the Eurodance group will be bringing all the classics to Elgin's 'Family Easter Festival'.

It was also announced they will headline Lanarkshire's hugely popular Stereofunk festival when it returns next year, on April 30.

A worldwide tour will start tomorrow in California and visit Germany, Italy and various locations across the UK.

Details of the gig are yet to be fully confirmed, with Moray Council adding that the license is "open for consultation".

A spokesperson for the council said: “We can confirm we have received an application for a temporary Public Entertainment Licence for Cooper Park, which is currently open for consultation via our licensing portal."

At times the Vengaboys come across like a cartoonish theatrical collective rather than an enterprising music group; however, pure entertainment has always been their core objective and you would be kidding yourself by downplaying this. Their zany/colorfully lit antics play just a crucial role as their pulsating dance tunes.

The group formed in the Netherlands in the early 90s and hit commercial success in 1997. While it is difficult to pinpoint the exact time of of the Vengaboys’ formation it is widely recognized that the primitive stages of the group were set in motion around 1992. The two leading creative figures behind this act, Dennis van den Driesschen and Wessel van Diepen (better known as Dj Danski and DJ Delmondo respectively), were burgeoning dance producers who got their start touring around in a bus, which made stops at various Spanish beach parties.The duo extended their musical family to include background singers/ dancers Rachel Carpenter, Olivia Ovington, and Kim Sasabone (the latter fronted the group). By 1996 they adopted the name Vengaboys and shortly after were putting out singles such as “Parada De Tettas” and “To Brazil”.

Vengaboys issued their debut studio album “Up & Down - The Party Album” in April 1998 through the label Strictly Rhythm. This release featured the three hit songs “Up and Down” (charting at No.4 on the UK Singles chart), “We Like to Party” (topping the charts in Belgium) and “To Brazil” (making it to No. 23 on the Netherlands’ Single chart). This album also did immensely well on the US market entering the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 26.

Their 2nd album “The Party Album”, which came out the following year was an even greater success. Though it reused some of their previous hits, it featured two newly constructed singles that boosted the album’s sales tremendously, such as “Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom” and “We’re Going to Ibiza”. The album went on to sweep the charts in 20 different countries claiming the No.1 spot. Provided the number of hits the group was spitting out at this time, their debut album received extensive revisitation, specifically from the US where it spent 30 weeks on the US Billboard 200 and eventually hit gold in 1999.

Robin Pors who had been added as a member in 1997 was replaced by dolphin trainer Yorick Bakker in 1999. The next year the band went on to issue their 3rd studio album, “The Platinum Album”. This album was also a major commercial success and featured five hit singles including “Shalala Lala”, “Kiss (When the Sun don’t Shine)”, “Uncle John from Jamaica”, “Cheekah Bow Bow (The Computer Song)”, and “Forever as One”. Following this release the band went through another line up change, seeing Post-Van Rijswijk and Bakker being replaced by Lynn Allien and Mark Jong a Pin. This new reconfiguration failed to click, resulting in a stunt of original material and eventually the disbandment of the group.

Vengaboys returned in 2006, but only as a touring act. Most of the venues they visited were dance halls and university student union clubs. In 2010 they released a new single entitled “Rocket to Uranus”, which featured guest spots US icon Perez Hilton and musician Pete Burns.The group continued touring in the 2010s and released several cover songs, remixes and even a Christmas album “Xmas Party Album”.

“We like to party, we like, we like to party, we like to party, we like, we like to party,” the modulating radio sounding voice is repeated as this euro pop outfit take to the stage, urging the audience to clap to the beat that is building in a large crescendo to this up tempo chart topping hit. As the beat drops, the whole room is jumping, glow sticks around every wrist, ultra violet paint upon every face as everybody sings along.

These Dutch, Eurodance giants, The Vengaboys deliver their entire top ten singles catalogue throughout this half an hour set, with every single person dancing throughout, singing their favourite childhood songs from around the year 2000 mark. The nostalgic four-piece had a huge amount of success selling an estimated 25 million records worldwide and were even the best selling dance group of the year in 2001.

“Boom Boom Boom Boom” is definitely a highlight of this set as every single audience member raises his or her fist to the sky for each “Boom”. Without a doubt, every one was partying like it was 1999. The loudest applause award goes to their hit single “We’re Going to Ibiza”, which is a reworking of Typically Tropical’s 1975 number one hit, “Barbados” which closed the set in spectacular fashion, of course by this point, there was a silly amount of ultra violet paint on the face of the entire audience. It was definitely a nostalgic experience for anyone who witnessed the year 2000.

Few acts can lay claim to the title of novelty hit kings with quite as much conviction as Vengaboys can, certainly in terms of the nineties and early noughties; it was during that period that they troubled the business end of the charts on a consistent basis, with the likes of ‘Boom Boom Boom Boom’, ‘We’re Going to Ibiza’ and ‘We Like to Party! (The Vengabus)’ making a serious impression on the British public, leading to the former two hitting the top of the UK charts and that third track making it to a respectable number three. As infectious as the Dutch group’s sense of fun was, though, and as successful as it made them, bringing them a slew of worldwide platinum certifications, it also clearly had a shelf life, which perhaps suggests why it was that they’ve never recaptured that level of success since. After reforming in 2007, though, they continue to record and tour, collaborating with celebrity blogger Perez Hilton in 2010 and routing jaunts through some of their most successful territories, including Australia and New Zealand. They’ll support David Hasselhoff at a huge arena date in Sweden later this year, and further UK dates are likely to be scheduled sooner than later; as a blast of pop nostalgia goes, you could do far worse.

Rotterdam Eurodance outfit the Vengaboys may not be able to boast lyrical ingenious or masterful production values yet they do have a smattering of hits that everybody in the western world will know. You also have to appreciate that with the number of artists and Eurovision contestants who create one infectious summer hit and then fade into obscurity, the Vengaboys have managed to sustain a career that is almost two decades old.

The live show is camp, kitsch and above all incredibly fun. The band never takes themselves too seriously and this vibe is passed on to their crowd as they are urged to lose all inhibitions and dance along to the likes of 'Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom' and 'We're Going to Ibiza'. It does all get a little silly at times and they seem perpetually trapped in the 90s but for an evening you are transported back to the free spirited decade of colour and it is a pretty nice trip with an equally nostalgic soundtrack.

VENGABOYS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPORT STEPS ON HUGE UK TOUR COMES AHEAD OF 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF DEBUT ALBUM

Emerging in 1998, the Vengaboys had back to back multi-platinum hits with We Like to Party!, Boom, Boom, Boom Boom!! and We’re Going to Ibiza, reaching the top of the charts in over 25 countries across the globe.

Over the next three years the Dutch group, consisting of  D-Nice, Kim Sasabone, Ma’Donny and Robin Pors, were nominated for MTV Best Breakthrough of the Year, reached the top of the Billboard Dance Charts, and in 1999 were Holland’s most successful export that year, beating tulips, smokeable  agricultural products and cheese.

Following a hiatus in 2002, the group reconvened in 2007 and have been embarking on their #NonstopWorldTour ever since, still partying just as hard all these years on, racking up over 1.7 millions plays on Spotify every month.

The Vengaboys (with their Vengabus in town), will now support Steps on their huge UK tour dates throughout November and December, bringing the Venga Party across the nation for a spectacular 90’s renaissance, ahead of new music planned for next year.
