Here We Go Again...

You’ll never believe what some players are reportedly asking for as part of a potential PGA Tour-PIF deal

2171588648

Icon Sportswire

The ongoing truce talks between the PGA Tour and PIF, now deep into their second year, are the worst saga in sports. Progress has been measured in inches, not miles. The reporting has been shrouded in hearsay, rumors and bias. Imagine the bitterness and pettiness of an MLB lockout and multiply it two-fold, and that pretty much paints the picture.

Take, for instance, new reporting from Bloomberg on Tuesday which states that a potential armistice “inched closer” during a meeting between the PGA Tour and PIF last week. On its own, that’s good news, but it comes with a major—and potentially very messy—caveat:

“Some PGA Tour players” reportedly want LIV players to pay back the massive sums given to them by LIV Golf before being granted a return to their former employer.

RELATED: The diamond ball marker Jon Rahm got for winning LIV Golf’s individual title has an incredible secret inside

According to Bloomberg, other financial makeweights such as LIV players paying PGA Tour and DP World Tour fines, donating their money to charity or forfeiting future earnings have reportedly been floated, but LIV pros are said to be unwilling to agree to any deal that penalizes them for joining the disruptor league.

It should be noted that Golf Digest’s own sources have not independently confirmed these rumors, but fact and fiction have been difficult to parse throughout this ordeal. The one thing we can say for sure is that money (or “obnoxious greed” as Phil Mickelson once called it ) has been the driving force of the division since the very start.

So what comes next? As is the case with all disagreements, an eventual compromise. The speed and shape of that compromise, however, seemingly depends on the influence of the PGA Tour players endorsing financial sanctions for the LIV ex-pats. While the idea of LIV pros giving their career paydays to charity, having their future wages garnished or simply paying back money that already sits in their bank accounts seems as unrealistic as cats and dogs living together in harmony, if the voices calling for it are loud enough, this impasse could very well stretch on through the winter.

Tour/holiday representative: job description.

targetjobs editorial team

25 Jan 2023, 13:39

Tour/holiday representatives look after groups of tourists staying at resorts, where they are responsible for every aspect of their holiday.

Assortment of colorful souvenir magnets from various travel destinations displayed on a surface.

Working as a holiday representative can be fun and a great chance to work overseas but you will need lots of energy.

What does a holiday or tour rep do? Typical employers | Qualifications and training | Key skills

Due to Covid-19, you may find it difficult to gain work as a tour/holiday representative at the moment. As we explain here , however, recruiters will not view time out of work due to the pandemic as a 'gap' in your CV. For guidance on searching for work during this difficult time, take a look at our advice for job hunting during a pandemic .

Tour or holiday representatives are responsible for looking after groups of holidaymakers on package holidays, often at international destinations. They make sure that everything runs smoothly, handling any complaints and resolving problems. Typical duties involve:

  • undertaking pre-holiday research into local facilities
  • inspecting hotel safety and cleanliness
  • offering sightseeing advice
  • organising and leading excursions and entertainment
  • liaising with providers of accommodation, travel agents, coach companies and so on
  • resolving conflict with clients
  • referring complaints and problems to senior management
  • writing reports
  • providing support when holidaymakers experience difficulties such as lost luggage or health problems
  • organising and supervising activities for children
  • selling additional services such as car or equipment hire
  • meeting clients at the airport and accompanying or transporting them to their accommodation, and holding welcome meetings

Tour representatives may be 'on call' 24 hours a day. The work is not particularly well paid, but food and lodging are usually factored in. While it can be stressful at times, there is also a lot of fun involved.

You may work as part of a team of tour reps, or be the only rep at a particular resort. Some roles may involve administrative tasks and social media activity as well as customer-facing responsibilities.

Typical employers of tour and holiday representatives

  • Travel agents
  • Private villa and apartment owners
  • Tour and coach operators
  • Camping holiday companies
  • Sports and sailing clubs

Vacancies are advertised online, in newspapers and trade publications including Travel Trade Gazette and Travel Weekly . Networking and speculative applications are advisable.

A few companies operate head office-based graduate training schemes. Paid summer vacation jobs may also be available with some employers. Applications for these should be made during the autumn prior to entry. Holiday reps may be employed on seasonal contracts.

There may be opportunities to move around different resorts managed by the employer, spending a season at each one. Tour reps may be away from home for months at a time, so it can be difficult to combine this type of work with family life or caring responsibilities in the long term.

Tour reps may move into senior roles that involve supervision and management, such as resort supervisor, resort manager, area manager or tour operator. Their customer service experience stands them in good stead in pursuing careers in retail as well as hospitality, leisure, tourism and travel, and will also be relevant in other industries.

Qualifications and training required

A degree is not a standard requirement for tour rep roles. However, there can be strong competition, so a degree in a relevant subject such as leisure, travel, tourism or management can be an advantage.

Relevant experience or alternative qualifications will also be helpful in your applications. Experience gained within the hotel, tourism or travel trades (particularly overseas) is advantageous. Familiarity and knowledge of key holiday destinations, foreign language skills, first aid knowledge or a driving licence can also be useful. Childcare qualifications or experience, or both, are likely to be an advantage if the role involves organising activities for children.

Key skills for tour and holiday representatives

  • Independence
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Communication skills
  • Organisational skills
  • Fitness and health.

How to reserve parking in advance of the Eras Tour in Indianapolis — and how much it costs

Portrait of Holly V. Hays

Although there are more than 73,000 parking spots in downtown Indianapolis, we suspect there will still be fewer parking spots than Taylor Swift fans when the icon visits for her three-night stop at Lucas Oil Stadium in early November.

Not to worry, however, if you among the fortunate who snagged a ticket or if you plan to head downtown that weekend just to soak up the Swift-mosphere: There are a number of ways you can reserve parking in advance for the nights of the concerts, so you can shake off those jitters and enjoy the evening.

Here are a few ways you can reserve parking in advance in downtown Indianapolis. Visit downtownindy.org/explore/parking for a more comprehensive list of parking garages in the downtown area.

ParkWhiz is a convenient option to search for parking options across the city. As of early September, there were spots for as low as $40 in the area immediately surrounding the stadium, with the closest spots topping $200. To view available parking locations and see current pricing, visit parkwhiz.com/lucas-oil-stadium-parking .

Didn't score Eras Tour tickets? Here are some other Taylor Swift-themed events to check out

In most cases, rather than traditional parking meters, Indianapolis uses zone parking and centralized meters along sidewalks. You can use the ParkMobile app (available on Google Play and the Apple App Store ) to enter your zone code and pay for your parking meter. You can also use it to reserve parking in advance of large events.

As of early September, spots were still available to be reserved at 200 N. Illinois St. for $67.20. These spots allow for parking between 5 p.m. and midnight on show days, and the garage is less than a mile from the stadium.

If you want to wait until the day of the concert, you can also use the app to find available spaces and add time to your meter remotely.

Similar to ParkWhiz and ParkMobile, SpotHero allows you to scope out parking opportunities across the city. And, like the other sites, parking closest to the stadium those nights will cost more — as of early September, spots near Lucas Oil Stadium were mostly between $75 and $100. To search for spots, visit spothero.com/destination/indianapolis/lucas-oil-stadium-parking .

Denison parking garages

You can reserve spots in a number of Denison Parking facilities in advance, with prices ranging from $31 (furthest from stadium) to $86 (closest to stadium). For more information about the garages and current pricing, visit bit.ly/47eeZxo .

Jane's Addiction cancels tour after fight onstage at Boston concert. Here's what happened

Portrait of Melina Khan

Jane's Addiction's reunion tour has come to an unexpected end after an onstage fight during a Boston concert.

The band was performing in Boston Friday when singer Perry Farrell  began punching guitarist  Dave Navarro onstage.

On Monday, the band announced the rest of its tour has been canceled so the group can take time apart.

Tickets are now being refunded for the rest of the shows, just months after members Farrell, Navarro, Stephen Perkins and Eric Avery reunited for the first time in more than a decade.

Here's what to know about the incident, and what the band's members are saying about it.

Jane's Addiction cancels tour after onstage fight at Boston concert

Two days after Jane's Addiction singer Perry Farrell punched guitarist Dave Navarro onstage at the band's concert at Boston's Leader Bank Pavilion, the rest of the group's reunion tour was cancelled.

"The band have made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group," a statement on the band's social media accounts said. "As such, they will be cancelling the remainder of the tour."

The band was performing in Boston on Friday when Farrell shoved and punched Navarro onstage. Videos from the concert show Navarro being restrained by crew members.

Perry Farrell apologizes to Dave Navarro after onstage fight in Boston

In a statement shared with USA TODAY , Jane's Addiction singer Perry Farrell apologized to "my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday's show."

"Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behavior, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation," he said.

Farrell's bandmates Navarro, Stephen Perkins and Eric Avery issued a joint statement on social media, they said the cancellation was "due to a continuing pattern of behavior and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell."

"Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs," the statement said. "We deeply regret that we are not able to come through for all our fans who have already bought tickets. We can see no solution that would either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to deliver a great performance on a nightly basis."

What is Jane's Addiction?

Jane's Addiction is an alternative rock band known for songs like "Jane Says," "Been Caught Stealing" and "Mountain Song."

The band was formed in 1985 by members Perry Farrell and Eric Avery. The group went on its first farewell tour in 1991, in an event that eventually became the popular music festival Lollapalooza.

How to become a holiday rep

Posted: 22 August 2020 by: Fabio Delgado Last modified on 2024-04-24 aceworkingholidays.com

How to become a holiday rep

If you are looking to find a secure job working abroad , you may want to consider becoming a holiday rep. All the big tour operators hire reps through the Summer and Winter seasons.

Resorts such as Magaluf, Zante and Ibiza have become a popular retreat for a lot of young adults. It is a way that you can have fun, whilst earning at the same time.

Not only will you get paid and build your skills, but you can also make new friends and have new exciting experiences.

We have created a guide to getting a job as a holiday rep , so you have all the information you need.

What is a Holiday Rep?

Your role is going to include looking after holidaymakers and to make sure they have a great time.  Essentially, you are representing a holiday company and you will assist them with activities and accommodation. Customer service is key for this job, as you are the first point of contact when they have a question.

Some examples of tasks you may be asked to do are:

  • Meet & greet: Perhaps at the airport or when they arrive in the resort.
  • Introductory talks: you may be asked to give a welcome session to go through the basics and answer any questions.
  • Arranging activities: prepare for some sales, as you may get some commission for selling tickets to certain events.
  • Paperwork! Expect some admin, health and safety are important in this role.

What qualifications do I need?

One of the most common questions is knowing what qualifications an employer may look for when applying to become a rep. The good news is that most of the time, managers will focus on your personality and attitude over any exam results. For this role, you must be outgoing and energetic and have great people skills.

There may however be some businesses that require at least four GCSE grades of C and above. In addition, if you have a background in travel and tourism this can be advantageous.

If you speak multiple languages then you are going to be highly sought after, but don’t worry if you only speak English, as fluent English is a must in any holiday rep post.

How much do Holiday Reps get paid?

Naturally, you will want to know how much money a holiday rep gets paid. Of course, you may be wanting this job for the experience, but you also want to make a good living too.

Everything you need to know about Taylor Swift's Reputation (Taylor's Version) including the release date, easter eggs, vault tracks, news and more.

Listen to this article

1, 2, 3, let's go b-tch! Taylor Swift fans think that Taylor is about to announce Reputation (Taylor's Version) but what is actually going on?

Ever since Taylor Swift revealed that she would be rerecording her first six albums to reclaim ownership of her masters, fans have been eager to find out when she will release Reputation (Taylor's Version) . As the most recent of the six albums, Taylor legally had to wait until November 2022 before she could record Reputation TV but now she is free to put it out.

Over the course of the past few months, Taylor has teased exclusive snippets of 'Delicate (Taylor's Version)' and 'Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor's Version)'. Fans were also convinced that Taylor would announce the re-recording in London during the final show of the Eras Tour European leg... but nothing happened.

So when is Reputation (Taylor's Version) coming out? Here's everything we know so far about the rerecording including the release date, tracklist, vault tracks, collaborations and more.

When is Reputation (Taylor's Version) coming out?

Taylor Swift teases Reputation re-record era with dress easter egg at the VMAs

When is Taylor releasing Reputation (Taylor's Version)?

With Fearless (Taylor's Version) , Red (Taylor's Version), Speak Now (Taylor's Version) and 1989 (Taylor's Version) all out, Taylor has just two albums left to drop. Swifties have a theory that Reputation (Taylor's Version) will be coming next.

At first, fans thought she might announce it in February 2024, during one of her Eras Tour shows in Japan or Australia thanks to an easter egg from the 'Bejeweled' music video. Swifties believed that Rep (TV) would be announced in February because the black nail is next to the 2 on the clock. (The blue nail, representing 1989, is next to the 8. She announced the album in August 2023.)

However, that did not happen. The Tortured Poets Department happened. Then, fans thought it would be announced on August 20th, live on stage in the same way she announced 'Speak Now (TV)' and '1989 (TV)'. That didn't happen either. The 'I Can Do It With A Broken Heart' music video happened. But the Rep TV easter eggs have continued...

Following the final show of The Eras Tour's European leg, fans have now formed several new theories about when it could be announced.

As of August 25th, there's no confirmed release date for 'Reputation (TV)' but the date reveal could be coming very soon.

Taylor is reportedly set to be attending the MTV VMAs on September 11th where she is nominated for several awards for 'Fortnight', and Artist of the Year. While some fans think she may tease 'Rep (TV)' at the ceremony, others don't think she'll announce anything on 9/11. (The award show was moved from September 10th to avoid clashing with the presidential debate.)

Other popular fan theories suggest that she may announce it at some point on the final leg of her Eras Tour, which kicks off on October 18th in Miami. The original 'Reputation' album was released on November 10th 2017 but Taylor does not have a show that day.

Just like OG Rep, it's looking like Taylor might be about to pull off another surprise announcement because no one has any idea of what to expect or when to expect it!

Will Taylor Swift announce Reputation (Taylor's Version) at the VMAs?

Has Taylor Swift teased any Reputation (Taylor's Version) snippets?

On August 4th, Taylor debuted an official snippet of 'Delicate (Taylor's Version)' in The Summer I Turned Pretty season 2 episode 6. It's on Prime Video and you can fast forward to 11:56 to hear it in all its glory.

On August 23rd, Taylor also debuted an exclusive snippet of 'Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor's Version)' in the first teaser trailer for Prime Video's new drama Wilderness .

Another snipped of 'Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor's Version)' was released in March 2024 in a trailer for 'The Dynasty: New England Patriots'.

Are there Reputation (Taylor's Version) easter eggs?

Some fans think that Taylor started teasing 'Reputation (Taylor's Version)' easter eggs in 2022.

First there was the diamond dress at the 2022 MTV VMAs. Fans compared it to Taylor's 'Look What You Made Me Do' bathtub scene. Fans also think that Taylor teased 'Reputation (Taylor's Version)' at the 2023 MTV VMAs. She wore another ' Reputation' inspired outfit and made a snake motion with her hands while collecting one of her awards.

Ahead of the Eras Tour film premiere Taylor also tweeted some Reputation easter eggs. She wrote , "Look what you genuinely made me do" and "Getting in the car now…" Very interesting.

While gearing up for the '1989 (Taylor's Version)' release, she started alternating between blue and black outfits... While some fans were sure that meant there was another version of '1989 (TV)' on the way, she was likely confirming that 'Rep (TV)' will follow '1989 (TV)'.

On top of that, Swifties also spotted an easter egg hidden within the 'Taylor's Version' font on her website. It featured the 'S' in the shape of a snake, next to 'IO N'. 10th November? The original release date? Interesting.

Am I the only one who doesn’t think this was an Easter egg for TS11 but just another Easter egg for Rep being announced on Nov 10th? 11th month, 10th day. There’s 11 fingers in the first pic, and 10 in the second. pic.twitter.com/KpMKMDoSB1 — Sage (Taylors Version) ⸆⸉ 🖤 ✨ (@longlonglive13_) October 24, 2023

What are the Reputation (Taylor's Version) vault tracks?

At just 15 songs long and the only Taylor Swift album without a deluxe edition or any bonus tracks, it's possible 'Reputation (Taylor's Version)' will have many surprises from the vault in store for us. However, just like the past Taylor's Version albums, Taylor is keeping all vault track details for 'Reputation' close to her chest for now.

After Taylor originally released 'Reputation', a theory went viral that Taylor had scrapped an entire album called Karma so, if the theory is true (!), then there's a chance that some of tracks will appear on 'Reputation (TV)'. However, it's possible that those rumoured songs don't fit in with the vibe of 'Reputation'.

Taylor wrote most of ' Reputation' with Max Martin, Shellback and Jack Anotnoff so it's possible that most of the vault tracks will have been co-written with them. However, given that Max Martin has not been involved with Taylor's rerecords , it's possible that he won't feature on the vault tracks.

Fans have been theorising and hoping that 'I Don't Wanna Live Forever' featuring Zayn would be part of the vault, as well as her own version of 'This Is What You Came For'. We'll have to wait and see if they make the cut.

What collabs will be on Reputation (Taylor's Version) ?

The original version of 'Reputation' contains one collaboration: 'End Game', which features Ed Sheeran and Future. With the album being an electro-pop record with elements of trap, EDM and hip-hop, the collab possibilities are endless.

Taylor is yet to drop any hints on who else will be on 'Reputation (Taylor's Version)' , and even the fans are stumped as to who could possibly be featured on it, but we'll let you know when we know more.

Good bones: Waterbury gets a look at former St. Mary’s School

what is tour rep

WATERBURY – Architects, contractors and developers gathered at the former St. Mary’s Elementary School complex Tuesday to take an informal tour of the properties’ exterior and learn more about the complex the city is selling to redevelop into housing for hospital workers.

Tommy Hyde, executive director of the Waterbury Development Corp., said 16 people attended the informal meeting.

On Sept 6, the city initiated a request for proposals on the 2.2-acre property which includes five buildings.

Joe Feola, business development manager of Montagno Construction, said the company is certainly interested in the complex, describing it as unique in developing housing for health care workers.

Montagno Construction also developed the Linden Place, a mixed-use affordable housing complex that recently opened in addition to renovations at the Hamilton Park Pool.

He added that it is important to keep the integrity of the buildings and views it as an opportunity to help the hospital.

what is tour rep

“It is definitely important right now,” he said. “We need housing.”

Mayor Paul K. Pernerewski Jr. has said the city is trying to help address its housing shortage.

The former St. Mary’s Elementary School complex at 55 Cole St. and 320 East Main St. closed in 2018 and the city bought the property in August 2023 for $1 million.

Pernerewski said the property can accommodate approximately 90 units of housing.

He said the redevelopment of the property would help address staff shortages at the hospitals and provide housing within a short distance of St. Mary’s and Waterbury Hospital.

what is tour rep

Mark Guerrera, associate project manager with Kenneth Boroson Architects, said the company was teaming up with a developer concerning the property and expressed particular interest in it from a design standpoint.

Located in New Haven, the firm completed the addition to Crosby High School about 10 years ago and Guerrera said they have done all kinds of housing projects.

Pernerewski has said the developer who buys the property can apply for a $20 million bond through the state Department of Housing for the development of housing for health care workers. This is part of a state initiative to increase housing for hospital workers, according to city officials.

what is tour rep

Once the building is purchased the developer would rehab the building and potentially build a new facility on East Main Street next to St. Mary’s, Pernerewski said.

Efrain Torres, project manager with Green Hub Development, said Green Hub has a commitment to the city.

Green Hub’s past projects include the Brown Building, the former Howland-Hughes department store and the former Odd Fellows Hall, which is leased to UConn Waterbury to expand its Waterbury campus for experiential learning, training and research.

“Something that helps the city move forward we want to be a part of,” he said. “It is a great project.”

Mike Batista, who owns numerous properties in the city and purchased 95 Scovill, 77 and 105 Bank streets, and 133 West Main St. to convert into one-bedroom apartments, said the project also piqued his interest.

The developer said he just completed 133 W. Main St, which he converted into 29 market-rate apartments with a bakery and hairdresser on the bottom floor. He said he is adding a cafe.

“It would be a good idea to check it out to see if it is something we are interested in,” he said.

Responses must be provided by Sept. 25 with proposals due by Oct. 2.

Hyde said the city will probably extend that deadline.

There is no timeline for when a developer may be chosen at this point as it is early in the process, city officials said.

“If there is a clear favorite it will be faster and if it is fairly competitive it looks like it is going to take a little more time,” Hyde said of the city’s decision in choosing a developer.

Those developers interested in a tour must make an appointment and sign a waiver because the building has lead in it, Hyde said.

Hyde said the city hired a firm to conduct a Phase 1 review of the site to determine if there are any environmental contaminants.

Emily Moreno Miller calls U.S. Rep. Max Miller’s divorce claims false and ‘shameful’ in court filing

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Emily Moreno Miller is opposing a motion by her estranged husband, U.S. Rep. Max Miller of Rocky River, to get solo parenting time with their 10-month old daughter, in legal papers that claim her husband made numerous false claims in his legal filings earlier this month.

“Plaintiff’s attempt to denigrate his wife with numerous untruths in a public filing is shameful,” said a legal brief filed Thursday in the divorce case by attorney Jill Friedman Helfman. “Unlike Plaintiff, Ms. Miller is choosing not to make false allegations about her spouse and then list those allegations in a public document.” The brief didn’t specify which of Miller’s claims it disputes, but said untruths “will be addressed more specifically at a hearing on this matter.”

Holiday Representative Job Description

A holiday representative (frequently abbreviated to “holiday rep”) is a person responsible for organizing activities and entertainment for guests at holiday destinations and tourist resorts .

Holiday representatives work in a variety of locations, including holiday resorts and villages, hotels, beach resorts and even on board cruise ships . Their tasks vary depending on a number of factors, including the needs of holidaymakers, the type of facility they work at and the holiday season, but generally include organizing sports activities and tournaments , running games and other activities for children , putting on parties and musical shows , and generally entertaining guests and ensuring they have a good time. Holiday representatives finalize activities and entertainment programmes with the entertainment manager , who is responsible for deciding the times (e.g. all day, morning or evening only) and locations of activities (e.g. beach, swimming pool, children’s club, entertainment hall etc).

Holiday representatives usually work in teams , with each member responsible for a specific area, (e.g. children’s entertainment , sports , music , dancing etc.). The most common roles include:

  • Resort representative (also known as an overseas or customer service representative): responsible for interacting with and getting to know holidaymakers , informing them about the activities and entertainments scheduled for each day and taking down names of potential participants. Resort reps also work with the rest of the resort team in planning and organizing daytime and evening/nighttime activities and entertainments
  • Sports representatives : responsible for organizing sports activities and tournaments, including five-a-side football, beach volleyball, aerobics, swimming, cards and board games
  • Children’s holiday representative : responsible for organizing the activities offered by the resort’s children’s and teen clubs

Other members of a typical team of resort reps and entertainment staff include performers, singers, dancers, hostesses, comedians, DJs and photographers, as well as, of course, sound and video technicians,. who play a key role in putting on the evening shows.

One of the main aims of the activities and entertainments organized at a holiday resort is obviously to make sure that guests have a good time and enjoy themselves. Just as importantly, though, they are designed to encourage interaction between holidaymakers , with one of the key jobs of an entertainment representative being to help guests mix with each other and make new friends. A good holiday rep also needs to be able to resolve, head off or defuse the misunderstandings and situations of conflict that can sometimes arise between guests. To do this, they need to have excellent communication skills, enthusiasm for the job and the ability to involve and engage guests. On top of all this, reps need to be skilled in the areas that their specific role relates to, e.g. sports, children’s entertainment and activities, shows and music etc.

Demand for holiday representatives is highly seasonal. In the run-up to the traditional holiday periods (e.g. summer and winter holidays), the numbers of vacancies experience an increase, with opportunities available even for candidates with no prior experience. The pay and contractual conditions offered generally vary according to experience. Usually employers offer free board and lodgings and will also cover the cost of a return trip to and from the holiday destination.

Holiday Representative Responsibilities and Tasks

The main day-to-day responsibilities of a holiday representative include:

  • Planning and organizing activities for guests (e.g. games, sports tournaments, shows, parties)
  • Informing guests about the daily activity schedules
  • Running activities and making sure guests have a good time
  • Encouraging guests to socialize with each other
  • Involving new arrivals in activities
  • Heading off and defusing misunderstandings and situations of conflict

How to Become a Holiday Representative - Training and Requirements

Typically, there are no specific educational requirements for a job as a holiday rep . However, a knowledge of foreign languages is likely to be welcomed and in some cases may even be a prerequisite for the job. Sporting prowess and musical talents are also likely to be valued by potential employers, especially if they are backed up by certificates, while previous experience in the tourism sector will also be seen as a plus.

In some cases, the holiday companies themselves provide training for newly recruited reps at the beginning of the season in order to make sure new recruits are able to work to the required standards. Training courses typically cover topics such as the required standards of hospitality , regulations on staff dress and uniform and the rules to be followed when organizing sports and entertainment activities for holidaymakers.

Companies look for a range of key personal attributes in holiday reps, including a confident, outgoing, energetic demeanour, strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to cope well under pressure and deal with potential situations of conflict and good organizational abilities. Also important are patience, open-mindedness, a reliable, professional approach to one’s work and, finally, a willingness to work away from home for long periods at a time.

Holiday Representative Skills and Qualifications

The main skills required by a holiday representative include:

  • Communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Specific abilities and talents, e.g. sports, arts, theatre, music
  • Good level of fitness
  • Energetic and proactive
  • Enthusiastic, passionate and engaging

Holiday Representative Career Path

For holiday representatives, career progression goes hand in hand with growing levels of responsibility .

Experienced reps will often be promoted into positions such as senior resort representative or team leader, where the responsibilities include coordinating the work of other reps and providing guidance to new recruits. The next logical step on from here is to become a resort entertainment or customer service manager, supervising the work of the staff at a holiday resort, village or cruise ship.

There are, however, alternatives to this typical career path.

One is to specialize in a particular sport or activity and work as a sports rep , organizing recreational activities and games for children, teenagers and adults, while another alternative career development option is to become part of the permanent staff of one of the many agencies that specialize in supplying staff to holiday resorts.

Lastly, it’s important to remember that the abilities that reps acquire during the course of their work in the tourism sector in terms of building relationships and interacting with people are all valuable soft skills that can be transferred to practically any other profession.

Top Reasons to Work as a Holiday Representative

Very often people choose to become a holiday rep because the job offers the chance to travel and have fun while working . And it’s certainly the case that, although holiday representatives are contractually required to organize activities for their guests, they do also get to have fun with them too, e.g. spending time on the beach with their charges or perhaps enjoying the pleasures that an ocean-going cruise ship has to offer.

No less concrete is the potential for foreign travel that the profession offers, with jobs available in a variety of far-flung, exotic holiday destinations, from seaside resorts to alpine locations.

Additional attractions of the role include the youthful , dynamic environment and the ease of access, with vacancies available even to candidates with no previous experience in the tourist industry.

All of these factors make the job of a holiday rep a fun and rewarding way to spend the holiday season , which offers the chance to earn some money and have a good time with other young people from all over the world.

The Santiam Canyon is part of the Republican stronghold of Oregon’s 5th Congressional District, where Republican U.S. Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer and Democratic state Rep. Janelle Bynum are competing in a race with national implications.

Four years have passed since the Beachie Creek fire, and the main drag through the small town of Detroit remains largely empty. Residents share beers and burgers at one of the few gathering places in town, a food truck and a bar near Highway 22. They chat over the noise of a tractor as the city continues to rebuild.

“I think the community, it’s changed so much,” said Kathy Snyder, a longtime resident retired from a career owning a business and delivering mail. “There’s mostly not a lot of the local people that are here anymore.”

After the fire, the only thing left of Snyder’s home was a metal roof. She tried to get support from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, but the government would only cover $234 in damages, she said. Since then, she says some longtime locals who struggled to rebuild have left town, their homes replaced by upscale multi-story houses.

“Normally you’d go to the post office, and you’d see friends,” Snyder said. “I can walk down the street and may not know anybody that I see. I may not know who it is, which is really a big change from what it once was.”

In the razor-thin race for Oregon’s 5th Congressional District, candidates are campaigning here in the Santiam Canyon, a Republican stronghold scarred by catastrophic wildfire, and a place where government distrust runs deep. Rural towns were already struggling with the decline of the timber industry, and now they’re recovering from wildfire too. Residents and local officials say progress has been painfully slow, deepening resentment toward the government.

“The teachers lived here, there was a school here, logging went on, and it was slowly changing,” Snyder said. “But this fire is what actually made the big change.”

The Santiam Canyon curves high into the Cascade Mountains in Marion County, the district’s only area where Republicans outnumber Democrats and nonaffiliated voters. Along with neighboring Linn County, this is where U.S. Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer dominated in 2022, earning more than twice as many votes as Democratic nominee Jamie McLeod-Skinner. She flipped the district for Republicans.

Now Chavez-DeRemer faces Democratic state Rep. Janelle Bynum in a race that could decide which party controls the U.S. House of Representatives. But in small towns throughout the canyon, some say the government doesn’t look out for them the way the community looks out for itself.

“Detroit is one of those neighborhoods where you know everybody, everybody knows you,” said Dean O’Donnell, the former owner of Mountain High Grocery, who lost his home in the 2020 wildfires.

The town of Detroit sits upriver from a large dam and beside Detroit Lake, a vacation spot each summer for thousands of Oregonians who come to boat, fish and camp. And with large homes being built along the lakefront, some residents don’t like how their town is changing.

“They are renting them — short-term rentals,” said Debi Bowman, a former state parks employee and longtime resident. “Here we are with no family, no community. Just people passing through.”

Kevin Cameron, a Marion County commissioner who lives in Detroit, said the new buildings and homes going up throughout town are a positive sign.

“We’re making really good progress,” he said.

Donald Trump and Make America Great Again signs line the highway that snakes through the canyon, where vast stretches of burned trees still cover the hillsides.

The Beachie Creek fire was among several that blew up and tore across Oregon in September 2020, making it the most destructive wildfire year in Oregon’s history at that time. Statewide, the fires burned more than 1.14 million acres, destroyed more than 4,000 homes and killed nine people.

“That fire burned for a long time before that wind kicked up and sent it out of control,” said O’Donnell.

In O’Donnell’s view, former Gov. Kate Brown, a Democrat, was more concerned with the COVID-19 pandemic than addressing the wildfires — until it was too late.

“The fires were not as important to her as it was to us,” O’Donnell said.

Republican state Sen. Fred Girod lost his home.

“You’re trying to help people that totally lost everything they had,” Girod said.

Here, it’s easy to find patches of dirt where there used to be buildings and homes. Girod says state and federal rules intended to preserve the health of local waterways have inadvertently made it harder for towns to rebuild. That includes communities such as Gates, Detroit and Idanha, which don’t have sewer systems.

Girod says the Legislature has taken key steps by protecting survivors from property tax increases after they rebuild and by ensuring that the state doesn’t take a portion of the money that survivors win through lawsuits.

Still, Girod says many people in his district remain frustrated over the federal government’s response to the fires, and they feel environmental policies have harmed the area’s timber economy.

“The guy that’s on the dome of the capitol, he has an ax in his hands,” Girod said. “He’s a timber guy. Our history has been that way, but you have extremes up in Portland. They have their heads where it shouldn’t be, let’s put it that way.”

But Girod praised Chavez-DeRemer, saying the first-term representative has supported the area’s timber and agriculture industries while balancing the needs of a politically diverse district.

“I think Chavez-DeRemer has done as well as you’re going to do,” Girod said.

Employees lift slabs of wood through machinery at Freres Wood in Lyons on August 15, 2024. According to the company president, business has been rocky for mills across Oregon.

One of the region’s main employers, Freres Wood, is in Lyons, west of Detroit. More than 430 employees work for the company. In 2019, Lara Trump and then-President Trump’s campaign manager visited the company, and on a recent day, a book called “The MAGA Doctrine” sat on a table in the lobby.

“We feel like the state’s going in the wrong direction,” said company president Rob Freres. He added, “Our state government is controlled by urban interests and public employee unions in particular. They really don’t have much sympathy or support for rural Oregon.”

Freres says that, lately, business has been rocky. He blames inflation, government regulations and new rules like the state’s paid leave law, a program that aims to support Oregonians having children, caring for a serious health condition or recovering from certain crimes. Freres says the timber industry’s years-long struggles have hurt rural communities.

“We see all the social ills of broken homes and [people] unable to make mortgages and losing homes and alcohol abuse and drug abuse,” Freres said. “It’s really a tragic situation.”

Freres Wood is one of the biggest employers in the Santiam Canyon. Located in Lyons, it employs more than 430 people.

At least seven timber mills like this have closed in Oregon this year alone.

It’s likely that Chavez-DeRemer will dominate in the Santiam Canyon again this November. The only question is by how much, and whether it will make the difference needed to beat Bynum district-wide.

Breaking news, deftones announces 2025 tour with mars volta. get tickets today.

Deftones frontman Chino Moreno rocks hard in front of an amped-up crowd.

Prepare to have your face melted off.

Deftones just announced a 2025 North American tour with special guests The Mars Volta and Fleshwater that will send the trio to arenas all over the U.S. from February through April.

Near the end of the nationwide run, they’ll drop into New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Thursday, April 3.

The 24-concert trek will be the band’s first official tour since spring 2022. In the two years since the last jaunt, they headlined a number of festivals, played alongside System of a Down in San Francisco and hosted their own annual, San Diego-based Dia de los Deftones Festival multiple times.

This year’s edition of Dia de los Deftones is scheduled to take place at Petco Park on Saturday, Nov. 2. Notable acts joining the group this time around include British rockers  Idles , emo icons  Sunny Day Real Estate  (performing their 1994 debut album “Diary” in its entirety), experimental noise band  Health , Hip-Hop duo Paris Texas and indie vets  Duster .

“It’s like putting together a mix tape, but it’s a live show and you can put different artists together in one live setting… It’s a well-rounded event that — even if we weren’t performing at it — I think we’d enjoy going to as music fans,” Moreno shared with the San Diego Union-Tribune ahead of the inaugural fest.

Fans can purchase tickets for all upcoming Deftones shows on sites like Vivid Seats; the official on-sale for the 2025 North American tour is Friday, Sept. 20.

Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.

2024-2025 REP Season Announcement

24-25 Season Announcement

May 15, 2024 Written by REP Staff

The Resident Ensemble Players (REP), the professional theatre company in residence at the University of Delaware, is excited to announce its 2024-2025 Season. The upcoming season brings five stunning stories to the stage!

The REP opens its 17th season of plays with Heidi Schreck's What the Constitution Means to Me , a special two-week presentation in the Gore Recital Hall, onstage Sept. 13 through Sept. 22. Challenging, hopeful, and funny, this ground-breaking play sharply analyzes the biases inherent in the Constitution and imagines how this founding document could shape the next generation of Americans.

Overlapping in the Thompson Theatre from Sept. 19 through Oct. 6 is  The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised] [again ] , by by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield. This fast-paced comedy is guaranteed to have both lovers and haters of Shakespeare in stitches as it covers  ALL  of Shakespeare's plays and sonnets in just one night.

The fall continues with hilarity and hijinx in Tom Stoppard's  Rough Crossing , which is freely adapted from Ferenc Molnar's classic comedy. This laugh-out-loud farce performs Nov. 7 through Nov. 24. Two playwrights, one jealous composer, and most of the cast of a Broadway-bound show attempt to simultaneously finish writing and rehearse the play while crossing the Atlantic on an ocean liner.

Next, the REP presents  Misery , by William Goldman, running from Feb. 13 through Mar. 2. Based on the novel by Stephen King, this terrifying psychological thriller follows the disturbed mind of a former nurse as she holds her favorite author captive. As the author struggles to escape, he realizes that the biggest challenge of his life will be surviving the wrath of his “number one fan."

Closing out the season is William Shakespeare's classic tragedy  King Lear , on stage Apr. 10 through Apr. 27. King Lear has decided to end his reign and divide his country among his three daughters. Loyalties are misjudged and Lear soon finds himself stripped of everything that once defined him. A classic tale full of betrayal and chaos that only the Bard could weave.

A five-show subscription package for the REP's season of plays, on sale to the public May 28th, offers substantial savings with special subscriber benefits.  Current subscribers can renew their subscriptions starting May 7th!

Single tickets are on sale July 23rd. Tickets can be purchased online by contacting the REP box office at (302) 831-2204 or visiting the Roselle Center for the Arts at 110 Orchard Rd. Newark, DE., Tuesday – Friday, noon to 5:00 PM.
