Taylor Swift and Ice Spice

Taylor Swift brought her Eras Tour – which, so far, has seen arguably the biggest pop star on the planet playing to sold-out crowds on a trek that’s on track to net at least $590 million in ticket sales – to East Rutherford, New Jersey for a second night on Saturday (May 27).

Aside from the hoops everyone at MetLife Stadium went through to be present (Swift’s tour ticket sales proved too much for Ticketmaster to handle, a situation that escalated to the U.S. Congress), people showed up with fairly high expectations for the evening. After all, the previous night’s Eras Tour stop in Jersey saw a surprise appearance from Ice Spice on their newly released “Karma” remix; Jack Antonoff joined his frequent collaborator for “Getaway Car” on one of two surprise songs; and Swift debuted three flashy new outfits.

So on Saturday, the crowd was prepared for a show . And after a three-and-a-half-hour tour through the catalog of one of the 21st century’s biggest artists – one whose discography has shown a lyrical breadth and growth that few of her peers can lay claim to – attendees were more than satisfied, if not ecstatic, after night two of the MetLife dates.

It didn’t hurt that Ice Spice made her second consecutive appearance on the tour for the show-ending “Karma,” a sly pop bop that afforded the Bronx-based rapper the opportunity to flex in front of a 74,000-strong crowd of New York and New Jersey folks following the breakout success of “Munch (Feelin’ U)” and the Nicki Minaj collab “Princess Diana.”

Here are the seven best moments of Taylor Swift’s second night at MetLife Stadium.

Swiftie Appreciation Day

Early in the show, Swift acknowledged that the crowd – an audience three-times larger than the capacity at a venue like Madison Square Garden across the river — was an achievement. “New Jersey, I’m not gonna lie to you, you’re making me feel phenomenal,” Swift said. “There are a trillion things you could do this evening…. Correct me if I’m wrong and scream if I’m right: You went to a lot of effort to be here with us.” Unsurprisingly, there were no corrections forthcoming.

'Tis the Dusk Season

For a show of the caliber of the Eras Tour, it’s not always easy to tell which magical moments are meticulously plotted and which ones simply fall into place. But on Saturday night, the rotation of the earth dovetailed nicely with the show. As dusk fell and pine trees emerged from the bottom of the stage (conifers that almost seemed lifted from the experiential theater Sleep No More in NYC), Swift began singing “’Tis the Damn Season” while golden hues drenched the stage against the evening twilight.

Fans Invoke Villainous Behavior

During the Reputation segment of the evening – an era that found Swift exploring and embracing some of the inevitable cracks in the façade of perfection – a few fans took it upon themselves to play the bad guy role. A trio of Swifties invaded a couple’s floor seats when they left their chairs for a moment, and when gently questioned, they merely offered, “It’s our favorite song” before “…Ready for It” was performed. Well, that’s one way to celebrate Swift’s so-called villain era. (Most Swifties, it should be said, were excessively friendly and considerate during the show.)

Farewell to Phoebe

While opening act Phoebe Bridgers had one night left to go on the Eras Tour, Swift was already mourning the impending loss of one of her “favorite artists” on Saturday. Saying it was “devastating” that Bridgers had to leave the Eras Tour after the Jersey dates, a grateful Swift told the boygenius member she was “soaking up every single second of getting to play with you.” The two seemed especially attuned to each other while duetting, guitars in hand, on “Nothing New.”

Surprise Song #1

Swift has said that during the surprise song segments on each stop of the Eras Tour, she intends to perform songs that hadn’t previously appeared on the tour’s setlist — and never repeat a tune. Given the perimeters, speculation is pretty high each night of the tour, so after Taylor announced she would be playing “One of my favorites…. I feel like it’s a pretty good choice for tonight,” the crowd all but melted when she began playing beloved Red deep cut “Holy Ground.”

Surprise Song #2

Moving to the upright piano after “Holy Ground,” Swift gave one Lover track its first-ever tour moment in the spotlight: “False God,” her saxophone-assisted exploration of religion and sex, which helped set up the final portion of the night as Swift transitioned into Midnights . When she reached the lyric, “Staring out the window like I’m not your favorite town / I’m New York City,” the crowd naturally sang/screamed along even louder than usual.

Spice Is Twice As Nice

Twenty-four hours after Ice Spice helped Taylor give the “Karma” remix its live debut at MetLife Stadium, the Bronx rapper returned to the massive New Jersey venue to once again deliver her smooth, confident verse on the collab. Anyone thinking lightning couldn’t strike twice in the same spot was in for a rude awakening on Saturday — Spice and Swift slayed just as hard the second time.

Taylor Swift Eras Tour at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford: Everything you need to know

7-minute read.

eras tour metlife stadium

Welcome home, Taylor Swift.

Swift's three-show run at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford that begins Friday, May 26, isn't exactly a hometown affair for the pop superstar — but it's close.

And close to the heart. Swift and her family summered in Cape May during her childhood and early teen years before the family moved from their home in Reading, Pennsylvania, to Nashville.

“I spent my summers at the Jersey Shore from the time I was 2 until we sold the house in Stone Harbor when I was 14,” Swift told The Philadelphia Inquirer in 2009. “It was a pretty magical place to grow up.”

The magic lingers. The Shore made an appearance in the 2021 lyric video for Swift's heartfelt ode to her mom. “The Best Day,” and a young Swift wears a Sea Isle City sweatshirt in a video for “Seven.”

The young Swift was a regular at the Coffee Talk coffeehouse in Stone Harbor.

“It's funny because people say, ‘Oh, did you have any idea?’ and I mean what do I know? I don’t know anything,” said owner Madlynn Zurawski to the (Cherry Hill) Courier-Post. “I just thought she was adorable and cute and (had) a very, very nice family.”

Swift hasn't been a stranger to Jersey since she became a music star. She's been spotted at the Lobster House in Cape May, Uncle Bill’s Pancake House in Avalon, and a Target in Jersey City. In 2016, Swift crashed a wedding in Brant Beach on Long Beach Island and performed her song “Blank Space.”

Swift's show at MetLife is part of her Eras Tour, designed to cover material from her 10 albums, released over the past 17 years. There are 10 choreographed “acts”: Lover, Fearless, Evermore, Reputation, Speak Now, Red, Folklore, 1989, surprise songs, and Midnights. In all, it's more than 40 songs in about three hours.

At MetLife, Phoebe Bridgers opens all three shows. Gayle joins in on Friday, Gracie Adams on Saturday, and Owenn on Sunday.

Swift's Eras stand at MetLife will mark nine total times she's played the stadium. That's a record until Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band tie it with their scheduled three-show run this summer.

One record that is Swift's forever: In 2013, she became the first female artist to headline MetLife when her “Red Tour” played there.

Parking/transportation

Day of event parking cost: $40 per car; $160 per Bus/RV.

Parking directions: metlifestadium.com/getting-here/directions

Non-rideshare pick-up/drop-off: Follow on-site signage and directions from traffic/parking team members for the dedicated guests with disabilities drop-off location. The drop-off/pick-up area for guests with disabilities is located near Lot C, which is adjacent to the Verizon Gate. All other guest drop-offs are to be conducted on the sidewalk between Lots D and E. This roadway is accessible from Route 120 (North/South) or from the New Jersey Turnpike via 16W.

NJ TRANSIT TRAIN: Trains will operate between Secaucus Junction and MetLife Stadium on the BetMGM Meadowlands Rail Line. The start time for the rail shuttle varies based on the scheduled start time of the event. Check njtransit.com/MetLifeStadium for complete rail timetables closer to the concert dates. During peak periods prior to an event with rail service, trains operate approximately every 10 to 20 minutes. Customers are advised to consult the rail schedule for the event to note when the final train leaves Secaucus for the stadium and stadium for Secaucus. Visit www.njtransit.com/metlifestadium

COACH USA BUS: Buses will depart at 3:30 p.m. from Area X (41st Street between 8th & 9th Avenus, New York City) at Port Authority. The last departing bus from Port Authority to MetLife Stadium will leave at 6:45 pm. The last bus will leave the stadium 60 minutes after the event ends. Visit coachusa.com/351-meadowlands-express for more information.

Rideshare: A designated Rideshare Zone is located in Lot E off of West Peripheral Road, right outside of the Verizon Gate. When you request a ride from a rideshare service such as Lyft or Uber at MetLife Stadium, your pickup location will default to a pin in the pickup zone. Once you place your request, head to the Rideshare Zone in Lot E and look out for a call or text from your driver to let you know which row they are parked in.

Be advised that rideshare surge pricing is often in effect after the game and larger crowds will result in longer than usual wait times (potentially over an hour) for a car to arrive — and considerably higher prices than what you paid coming to the stadium. Make sure your phone is charged and ready to go if you’re planning to use one of these services.

Shuttles: Shuttle buses are provided to Lot P and the surface parking lots/deck located on the east side (Meadowlands Arena) of the MetLife Sports Complex to the stadium.

Guests parking in Lot P will be dropped-off/picked-up in Lot G (Pepsi Gate) in front of the Meadowlands Racetrack.

Guest parking in the surface lots and in the parking deck near the Arena will be dropped-off/picked-up in Lot C (HCLTech Gate) near the pedestrian bridge. Ticket holders who park in these lots can also walk to MetLife Stadium. They should use the sidewalk from Lot P and the pedestrian bridge from the east side of the Sports Complex. For their safety, guests should not walk on the Sports Complex roadways, cross Route 120 or cross Route 3.

Tailgating is permitted but drones, model aircraft, kites, and any other remote controlled or tethered flying objects are not permitted.

Tailgating should be limited to the lined parking space, and the area directly behind or in front of each vehicle. Blocking drive lanes is prohibited.

Tailgating is also permitted on the medians that separate the parking lots from the roadways. Click here for details.

No ‘Taylor-gating’ for fans without tickets

“For the safety and enjoyment of all those who have tickets, for these shows, we strongly encourage those without tickets not to come to MetLife Stadium on show days,” said MetLife Stadium on social media the afternoon of Wednesday, May 24. “Event tickets corresponding to that evening's concert are required to access the parking lots.”

The parking lots will be at “maximum capacity,” read the advisory.

Merchandise

The MetLife Stadium Flagship Store will be open to the public 10 a.m. through 8 p.m. Thursday, May 25 to sell tour merchandise. The new “Midnights (Til Dawn Edition)” deluxe album special edition CD will be available only at MetLife starting at 12:30 p.m. Friday. This CD will have a never before heard “Midnights” vault track called “You’re Losing Me.”

The shows are sold out. Ticket prices began at $1,200 on the secondary market as of press time.

Who needs a ticket: All guests over 34 inches in height must have a ticket to enter MetLife Stadium. Children up to 34 inches may enter MetLife Stadium free but must share a seat with an accompanying ticketed adult. Occasionally, for select non-NFL events, another policy may be in place.

Ticket office locations: There are ticket offices located at each of the entrance gates to assist with ticket sales and the reprint of lost/stolen tickets. Please note there may be a fee associated with a ticket reprint. Locations that are open will vary by event.

Ticket office hours: The Ticket Office is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. On event days, the ticket office will open approximately 3 hours prior to event time.

If you have obtained tickets in non-accessible seating and require the accessible features of these seating sections, call 201-559-1515 to make arrangements for accessible seating in advance of the event. If you have obtained seating in an accessible section and do not require the features of this type of seating, call 201-559-1515 to exchange your seating into a non-accessible section based on availability.

Ticket will-call: Ticketmaster will-call is available at any open ticket window. Guests who are picking up tickets at will-call will need picture ID, their confirmation number and the credit card with which the tickets were purchased in order to pick up the tickets. For select events, specialty will-call may vary. Please see the nearest team member for details.

Taylor Swift is such a force that her post-quarantine “Eras Tour” was a sensation the moment tickets went on sale. Despite Swift playing the biggest venues possible for multiple days in each city, the wild demand has helped to make each stop national news, especially as they are documented in real time on social media. Livestreams dominate on TikTok, “I-can’t-believe-you-got-tickets” posts rise to the top on Instagram, and the media cycle analyzes every change in Swift’s setlist, as well her famous friends in attendance.

Popular on Variety

Between the tristate happening midway through the run and social media ubiquity, fans were feverish from the very beginning, letting out their first collective roar when hearing Lady Gaga’s “Applause” play over the PA, because they knew it’s the last song piped in before Swift takes the stage. From there, it was a constant eruption of screams, cries and singalongs that lasted the whole night, adoration at a level few artists could sustain.

The genesis of these shows came from what Swift described at one point during the concert as a year-and-a-half-long process ideating the tour, from conceptual sketches to the finished product. Each chapter was a no-expenses-spared jaunt into Taylor’s mind, from the cozy forest home of “Folklore” to the glittery, fist-pumping anthems of “Red,” to the cool blues and purples that set the tone of the “Midnights” portion.

While the setlist has largely stayed the same for the duration of the tour, Swift smartly bakes in two surprise acoustic songs deep into the set, and at the first NYC show she brought out frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff for a rendition of “Reputation” fan favorite “Getaway Car,” and then took to the piano for a “Midnights” deep cut, “Maroon.”

Yet the night’s biggest surprises were all about buzzy Bronx rapper Ice Spice, whose collaboration with Swift on the remix to “Karma” dropped earlier in the day. Before the surprise acoustic songs, Swift world premiered the video to the remix alongside her dancers, many of whom were featured in it. Swift also expressed her appreciation to the rapper, saying that as she prepared for the tour she was “listening to pretty much exclusively just [Ice Spice’s] music every single day, all day.”

For the night’s last song, as some fans started trudging to the exits to beat traffic, a huge roar came again as the rapper dropped by to perform the remix with Taylor, creating a last-minute viral moment.

As the lights went up, the audience still enchanted by Swift, it’s difficult to think of anything more you could ask from a touring artist in 2023. The marathon run sounded great, was filled with both Swift’s huge, hooky hits and deeper cuts, mixed keen musicianship with joyful choreo, and left the audience headed to their cars to queue their own favorite eras on Spotify. For a perfectionist like Swift, it’s a thrilling culmination of her art, vision and hard work.

See Taylor Swift Bring Out Ice Spice, Jack Antonoff at New Jersey Show

By Kory Grow

A few minutes before midnight on Friday, Taylor Swift surprised the audience at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, where she was kicking off a three-night stint of her Eras tour, by welcoming rapper Ice Spice to the stage. The two women performed their new collaborative version of “Karma” together for the first time live.

Swift and Ice Spice sashayed hand in hand as they sang the new release. “Thank you New Jersey, give it up for Ice Spice!” the Midnights singer yelled at the end of the performance as confetti fell around them, and the two embraced.

The duo released their collaboration early Friday morning (aka midnight, of course) as part of the Midnights (The Til Dawn Edition) re-release, on which it was one of three bonus cuts. The remix swaps out one of Swift’s verses on the original for the “Munch” rapper waxing ecstatic on all kind of karma: “Karma is your text ’bout to bounce,” she raps. “Karma is the fire in your house/And she ’bout to pop up unannounced.”

In an audio clip on Spotify, Swift explained that Ice Spice’s management contacted hers saying that she’d been a fan of Swift’s since she was a kid (the rapper is 23), and that she’d love to work with Swift if possible. It turns out, the feeling was mutual. Swift has been listening to Ice Spice while prepping for dates of the Eras tour . She has even included the rapper’s “In Ha Mood” on the playlist concertgoers hear before she hits the stage.

She’s even been open about how special the shows have been to her.

Reflecting on the trek’s Philly run, she tweeted : “Philly was a dream, honestly. Playing three nights in the stadium I used to see on tv when my dad watched Eagles games every Sunday. The most magical three hometown shows a girl could hope for.”

The pop superstar sang, danced and strummed her way through more than 40 songs Friday night to kick off a much-anticipated three-day takeover of MetLife Stadium, delivering a 3.5-hour concert filled with career-spanning hits and surprise performances by Ice Spice and longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff.

As she has throughout her Eras Tour, Swift split up her marathon set by the different eras of her nearly two-decade career. She performed songs from all but one of her 10 studio albums, energizing the sold-out crowd with upbeat tracks such as “Shake It Off” and “Look What You Made Me Do,” while eliciting nostalgia with early hits “You Belong With Me” and “Love Story.”

Adding to the spectacle was a shape-shifting stage that repeatedly took on different formations, pyrotechnics during a fiery rendition of “Bad Blood,” and elaborate set pieces including a moss-covered piano for Swift’s “Evermore” songs.

Friday marked Swift’s first stop at MetLife Stadium since 2018, when she performed at the home of the Giants and Jets during her Reputation Stadium Tour. Swift, 33, planned to tour in 2020 but canceled those concerts due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I really, really missed you,” Swift told the East Rutherford audience. “During the pandemic, I just thought, ‘If I can’t play shows … I’m just going to make as many albums as possible.'”

Swift released four albums between tours — 2019’s “Lover,” 2020’s “Folklore” and “Evermore,” and last year’s “Midnights.” She performed at least five songs from each of those albums Friday, beginning the concert with “Lover” tracks including “Cruel Summer” and “Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince,” and wrapping up with a “Midnights” set featuring “Anti-Hero” and “Bejeweled.”

Friday’s concert took place less than 24 hours after Swift released the deluxe edition of “Midnights,” which includes a new remix of “Karma” featuring Ice Spice. Swift premiered the music video for the remix at Friday’s concert before Ice Spice surprised the crowd and performed it as the show’s final song.

Swift was also joined on stage by opening act Phoebe Bridgers for their collaboration, “Nothing New.”

She later brought out New Jersey native Antonoff for the surprise songs portion of the show, during which she played two tracks for the first time on the tour. She and Antonoff played “Getaway Car” before Swift gave a solo performance of the New York-centric “Maroon” on the piano.

The Eras Tour generated unprecedented demand on Ticketmaster last year and remained a red-hot ticket heading into the MetLife Stadium shows. Before Friday’s concert, the cheapest tickets on resale website StubHub cost above $1,000.

The night went all too well for attendees, many of whom dressed in shimmering, sequined outfits or shirts referencing Swift’s music. Tamra Wong, 38, and Tara Fitzpatrick, 40, wore jackets emblazoned with Swift’s album titles.

“Not only is it the show of the decade, but it’s the evolution of her,” their friend, 37-year-old Heather Ferguson, told the Daily News of Swift. “I’m from New York, but I came from San Diego, red-eye [flight], left my kids. … You would move actual mountains for her because of her talent.”

Dani Koplin, 19, and Emily Koplin, 16, wore matching “Miss Americana” sashes and tiaras.

“She’s been such a role model for us,” Dani told The News. “Seeing everything she’s done for other people and how she’s really stood in the face of a lot of the things coming at her and still stayed so strong — as teenage girls, she’s taught us a lot of lessons that we’ve held close to us our whole lives.”

Swift, a 12-time Grammy winner, closes out her MetLife Stadium shows on Sunday before bringing her tour to Chicago next weekend.

Taylor Swift has a lot of catching up to do with fans. That’s probably why the setlists for her Eras Tour have been so expansive.

Swift has not hit the road since 2018’s Reputation Stadium Tour, and she’s released multiple albums since then.

Typical Eras Tour concerts have spanned her recording career (10 albums over 17 years). Here's what Swift — who returns to MetLife Saturday, May 27, and Sunday, May 28 — played Friday, May 26, in East Rutherford.

Attention Swifties: What to know about Taylor Swift Eras Tour at MetLife Stadium

WABC logo

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (WABC) -- Are you ready for it? Taylor Swift fans know all too well that her much-anticipated Eras Tour kicked off the first of three shows in the Tri-State Area on Friday.

There will also be shows Saturday and Sunday at MetLife Stadium, but they have a message for fans to avoid any bad blood : tickets are required to enter the parking lot.

The message comes two weeks after about 20,000 fans who did not have tickets gathered in the parking lot at Lincoln Financial Stadium in Philadelphia to sing along to her songs.

"For the safety and enjoyment of all those who have tickets for these shows, we strongly encourage those without tickets not to come to MetLife Stadium on show days," a statement said.

Officials warned concert tickets are required to access parking lots which will be at maximum capacity on the nights of the shows.

And New Jersey State Police also advised against no "Taylor-gating" for those who don't have tickets.

The shows begin at 6:30 p.m. each night, but parking lots will open at 12:30 p.m. and gates will open at 4:30 p.m.

Governor Phil Murphy warned Swifties to leave early for the show.

"We've literally got three Super Bowls this weekend, the thing I would say to folks is to get there early, enjoy yourselves, but do so responsibly," he said.

Be warned, fans without an event ticket will be turned away and tickets will not be sold at the stadium.

According to StubHub, the cheapest ticket available for Friday's Taylor Swift concert goes for $1,454 and the most expensive ticket goes for $9,084. However, if you'd like to go with a friend and sit next to them, make sure to breathe because there are tickets going for $143,753 each in section 6, row 11.

A clear bag policy is in effect. Banners and signs smaller than 11" x 17" are allowed.

For a list of prohibited items, visit MetLife's website .

To the lucky fans who snagged tickets to the show, make sure to shake it off and we hope it meets your wildest dreams .

And for those who can't make it to any of the shows, you can still partake in the festivities by enjoying the new official state sandwich: a Taylor Swift Ham, Egg, and Cheese. Gov. Phil Murphy declared the breakfast sandwich the official state sandwich in honor of the tour.

How Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Conquered the World

The pop star’s record-breaking, career-spanning show has dominated the summer, commanding attention and whipping up demand at a level thought unachievable in a fragmented age.

  • Share full article

Taylor Swift, wearing a sparkly costume and knee-high boots and singing into a microphone, in front of a purple and pink fabric backdrop on the stage.

By Ben Sisario

Reporting from Kansas City, Mo., and New York

As Taylor Swift rolled into Los Angeles this week, the frenzy surrounding her record-breaking Eras Tour was already in high gear.

Headlines gushed that she had given $100,000 bonuses to her crew. Politicians asked her to postpone her concerts in solidarity with striking hotel workers. Scalped tickets were going for $3,000 and up. And there were way, way too many friendship bracelets to count.

These days, the center of an otherwise splintered music world can only be Taylor Swift.

The pop superstar’s tour, which is now finishing its initial North American leg with six nights at SoFi Stadium outside Los Angeles, has been both a business and a cultural juggernaut. Swift’s catalog of generation-defining hits and canny marketing sense have helped her achieve a level of white-hot demand and media saturation not seen since the 1980s heyday of Michael Jackson and Madonna — a dominance that the entertainment business had largely accepted as impossible to replicate in the fragmented 21st century.

“The only thing I can compare it to is the phenomenon of Beatlemania,” said Billy Joel, who attended Swift’s show in Tampa, Fla., with his wife and young daughters.

In a summer of tours by stars like Beyoncé, Bruce Springsteen, Morgan Wallen and Drake, Swift’s stands apart, in numbers and in media noise. Although Swift, 33, and her promoters do not publicly report box-office figures, the trade publication Pollstar estimated that she has been selling about $14 million in tickets each night. By the end of the full world tour, which is booked with 146 stadium dates well into 2024, Swift’s sales could reach $1.4 billion or more — exceeding Elton John’s $939 million for his multiyear farewell tour, the current record-holder.

Swift has now had more No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 over the course of her career than any other woman, surpassing Barbra Streisand. With the tour lifting Swift’s entire body of work, she has placed 10 albums on that chart this year and is the first living artist since the trumpeter and bandleader Herb Alpert in 1966 to have four titles in the Top 10 at the same time.

“It’s a pretty amazing feat,” Alpert, 88, said in a phone interview. “With the way radio is these days, and the way music is distributed, with streaming, I didn’t think anyone in this era could do it.”

But how did a concert tour become so much more: fodder for gossip columns, the subject of weather reports , a boon for friendship-bracelet beads — the unofficial currency of Swiftie fandom — and the reason nobody could get a hotel room in Cincinnati at the end of June?

“She is the best C.E.O., and best chief marketing officer, in the history of music,” said Nathan Hubbard, a longtime music and ticketing executive who co-hosts a Swift podcast . “She is following people like Bono, Jay-Z and Madonna, who were acutely aware of their brands. But of all of them, Taylor is the first one to be natively online.”

Swifties have chronicled the stream of celebrity fans who have turned up each night: Julia Roberts, the New York Jets’ new quarterback Aaron Rodgers, even Flavor Flav of Public Enemy. But Swift has also made each show a news event by adding two “surprise songs,” often with headline-grabbing guests. On the July day that she put out a music video featuring Taylor Lautner, an ex-boyfriend, the actor backflipped across the stage in Kansas City, Mo., and paid Swift effusive tribute — “not just for the singer you are,” Lautner said, “but for the human you are.” The crowd registered its approval with an earsplitting roar.

The Taylorpalooza extends to every level of the news media, which began the coverage cycle by chronicling Swift’s ticketing fiasco last November, when fans — and scalpers’ bots — crushed Ticketmaster’s systems, leading to a heated Senate Judiciary hearing . Since then, seemingly no nugget of Swift news has escaped coverage, from the stars in the stands to oddities like a Seattle concert that, according to one researcher, shook the ground with an intensity equivalent to a 2.3-magnitude earthquake .

Music critics have portrayed the Eras Tour as showing Swift at the top of her game as a media-savvy, big-tent talent, a pop star with a knack for grand spectacle as well as the polished artistry of a classic songwriter.

Shania Twain, the country-pop star whose career in some ways prefigured Swift’s, caught the Las Vegas stop of the Eras Tour, a 44-plus song production that goes as long as three and a half hours. She praised Swift’s “beautiful balance” of high-tech stagecraft and intimate performance segments. “I have to applaud her,” Twain said in a telephone interview. “As a performer, I know that work that goes into it.”

The power of Swift’s fan army — and fear of crossing the star, or even appearing to — has kept nearly all of the press about the tour sunny. Though some fans (and parents) balked at the ticket prices and challenges of securing seats, most frustration was directed squarely at Ticketmaster, not Swift. After a few weeks of headlines romantically linking Swift with a frontman some fans considered to be problematic, reports spread in the celebrity pages that they had split. (Swift’s representatives declined to comment for this article.)

For fans, the shows are a pilgrimage, and a rediscovery of the joys of mass gatherings. Flights are packed with Swifties, and travelers trade stories and compare outfits — drawn from looks associated with Swift “eras” — in stadium corridors and parking lots. In Kansas City, the comedian Nikki Glaser was attending her eighth show, a commitment that she estimated has cost her $25,000.

“This year I decided not to freeze my eggs,” Glaser said. “I’m going to put that money toward the thing I love most in the world, which is Taylor Swift.”

Before Eras, Swift hadn’t been on tour since 2018. And her catalog has grown by seven No. 1 albums since then, fueled in part by three rerecorded “Taylor’s Versions” of her first LPs — a project hailed by Swift’s fans as a crusade to regain control of her music, though it is also an act of revenge after the sale of Swift’s former record label, a move that, she said , “stripped me of my life’s work.”

“Folklore” and “Evermore” expanded her palate into fantastical indie-folk and brought new collaborators into the fold: Aaron Dessner from the band the National and Justin Vernon, a.k.a. Bon Iver, rock-world figures who helped attract new listeners.

The other major tour this year that is enticing fans to book transcontinental flights, and to show up costumed and in rapture, is also by a woman: Beyoncé, 41, whose Renaissance tour is a fantasia of disco and retrofuturism. Like Swift, she is also a trailblazing artist-entrepreneur, maintaining tight control over her career and fostering a rich connection with fans online. Together with Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie,” a critique of the patriarchy told in hot pink, they are signs of powerful women ruling the discourse of pop culture.

But in music, at least, the scale and success of Swift’s tour is without equal. Later this month, after completing 53 shows in the United States, she will kick off an international itinerary of at least 78 more before returning to North America next fall. Beyoncé’s full tour has 56 dates; Springsteen’s, 90. (Recently, Harry Styles wrapped a 173-date tour in arenas and stadiums, grossing about $590 million.)

Outside Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, fans posed for selfies and shared their ticketing ordeals. Esmeralda Tinoco and Sami Cytron, 24-year-old former sorority sisters, said they had paid $645 for two seats. A stone’s throw away, Karlee Patrick and Emily DeGruson, both 18 and dressed as a pair in angel/devil costumes after a line in Swift’s “Cruel Summer,” sat “Taylorgating” at the edge of the parking lot; they said they had paid $100 for parking but couldn’t afford tickets.

As Swift’s opening acts finished, the crowd rushed in. Glaser, the comedian, later said that of the eight shows she had been to, her favorites were the ones where she had brought her mother — and converted her to Swiftie fandom.

“Everyone is in love with her,” Glaser said her mom told her after one show in Texas. “Now I get it.”

It’s been a long time coming, but Taylor Swift is finally back at MetLife Stadium this weekend.

Swift made history in 2013 during her “Red Tour,” when she became the first female artist to headline the stadium.

Now, the singer is performing three sold-out shows from May 26-28 for her “ Eras Tour .”

“Call It What You Want,” but Swifties know this is the tour of the year.

For a three-plus hour set, not including the opening acts, this concert is not for the weak and fans who have been to previous Swift shows know that preparation is key.

So, here are the nine things every Swiftie needs to have the best “Eras Tour” weekend imaginable.

Taylor Swift at MetLife Stadium: May 26-28

  • Clear Bags : If you want to get into MetLife Stadium with ease, a clear bag is a must. According to MetLife Stadium’s website, clear bags must be 12″ x 6″ x 12″ or less in size. If you don’t want to bring a clear bag, the largest non-clear bag you can bring is 4.5″ x 6.5″.
  • Ear plugs : One thing Swifties must bring to the “Eras Tour” is a pair of ear plugs . With how noisy a sold-out stadium full of screaming fans is, you’ll be thankful you bought a pair. Some fans are even purchasing colored ear plugs that go with their “Eras Tour” outfits; pink for “Lover,” purple for “Midnights,” gold for “Fearless” and so on.
  • Friendship bracelets : At every “Eras Tour” show, Taylor Swift fans are trading friendship bracelets as a pre-show festivity. Fans have been making colorfully braided and beaded bracelets to coincide with specific albums, songs and inside jokes amongst the fans. By the time the show is over, you will be decked out in one-of-a-kind “Eras Tour” merchandise.
  • Portable charger: Taylor Swift’s tour is full of music that covers 17 years, which adds up to a 40-plus song setlist. With hits like “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)” and the unique surprise songs she does for every show, you want to make sure you can catch them all on video. You can’t do any of that if your phone is dead, so snag a good portable charger before the concert.
  • Phone card holder: To save up space in your “Eras Tour” bag for all the friendship bracelets you will be trading, a card holder to attach to your phone is a must. If you are going bagless to the MetLife Stadium shows this weekend, a card holder is the best way to keep your credit cards and ID safe.
  • Water bottle: Singing for over three hours requires a large amount of hydration. For the MetLife Stadium shows, fans are allowed to bring in one factory-sealed water bottle. You can also bring in a reusable water bottle to fill at water fountain stations around the stadium. Swifties also recommend to leave water bottles in the car, as post concert traffic could take a long time to get out of.
  • Red lipstick: If Taylor Swift has that “ red lip classic thing that you like,” you can’t attend the “Eras Tour” without a red lip either.
  • Tissues: It is no successful “Eras Tour” weekend without shedding a few tears to “Marjorie” or “Illicit Affairs.” Make sure to stock up your bag with some travel-sized tissues .
  • Poncho: We all know Taylor Swift loves a good rain show, and we also know she will never cancel one because of it. However, most of our “Eras Tour” outfits are not waterproof, so there is only one solution: purchasing a poncho .

“Long Story Short” you are now set to dance the nights away through the eras of Taylor Swift’s career all weekend long.

Swifties (Nicely) Warned Against ‘Taylor-Gating' at Last MetLife Show

New jersey's governor does not want people in the parking lots without tickets -- but at least he's nice about it, by ariel peele and tom shea • published may 27, 2023 • updated on may 28, 2023 at 4:29 pm.

For tens of thousands of fans at Taylor Swift's first MetLife Stadium shows on Friday and Saturday (as well as those gathered outside the stadium), to say you could see "Sparks Fly" during her performance would be an understatement.

It was an Eras Tour for the ages.

After months of buildup, the crowd of more than 82,000 Swifties roared as the singer took the stage around 8 p.m. in her first nights of shows for her Eras Tour at the East Rutherford stadium. Swift was joined on stage for performances with Ice Spice and Jack Antonoff. Her last show is Sunday night, and New Jersey's governor had a reminder.

Let’s make sure we stay Out of the Woods this weekend!   To ensure we have a successful final concert, Swifties without tickets should not plan on hanging out in the @MetLifeStadium parking lots tonight. — Governor Phil Murphy (@GovMurphy) May 28, 2023

Know Before You Go

First off, Friday was reminder of just how important it is to make sure the tickets you have are real, and you haven't been scammed. There was heartbreak at the entrance to the stadium for some fans who tried to get in with tickets they thought were good and verified — but didn't work.

A group dropped $300 per ticket, just to be denied entry due to the phony tickets. One mom flew up from Florida just for the show that the group didn't get to see after all.

"There has to be a better system for real fans. To enjoy music is like a therapy at this point and people need that, you need that security and you can't even get that anymore," said one of the frustrated fans.

Taylor Swift at MetLife: How to Snag Free Concert Tickets

If you've been scouring TikTok looking for tips and tricks, there are some people who have had luck with Ticketmaster the day of the show, even right after the shows have started. If you wake in the night, pacing like a ghost because of ticket troubles,  be careful where you buy . Scammers are using different ways to dupe Swifties into sending money online for a ticket that doesn’t exist.

For more on scams,  click here .

The good news for those who had tickets to Friday's show: It did not appear that the Memorial Day weekend getaway traffic hampered the journey to MetLife too badly, aside from a few congestion headaches that are to be expected with any show of this magnitude.

While trains and buses to the stadium were packed full of fans, there were no reports of any widespread problems getting to or from the concert on Friday.

New Jersey Transit is urging Swifties to  purchase round-trip train tickets in advance , ideally on the NJ Transit app. However, NJ Transit says they will not cap the number of tickets sold.

According to their website, fans traveling on NJ Transit trains to MetLife Stadium should purchase their roundtrip tickets from their originating station to  Meadowlands Station  to avoid boarding delays. Tickets purchased on the train will include a $5 surcharge for each ticket.

MetLife Stadium says NJ Transit service will operate from Secaucus to MetLife Stadium starting at 4:17 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Coach USA Bus , the 351 Meadowlands Express, will operate from Port Authority in NYC to MetLife Stadium starting at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Return service to Port Authority runs for 60 minutes after the concert ends. Tickets are  available here .

For those planning on driving , MetLife Stadium says you must have a ticket corresponding to that evening's show for access to all parking lots. Lots open at 12:30 p.m. the day of each show. It's $40 per car, $100 per limousine and $160 per bus.

Credit cards and cash are accepted. Reminder: the rest of the stadium is cashless. Only credit and debit are accepted.

If we've learned anything from TikTok, there will be traffic, so plan accordingly. Prepaid parking is not available. No pictures to burn here, take a picture of your spot so you can find your car after the show.

Another helpful hint for trying to get into the show as smoothly as possible: Make sure the bag you abides by the stadium's requirements.

MetLife Stadium's policy states that bags must be clear (a.k.a. see-through): 12” x 6” x 12” or less in size, and 1 bag per person. Small purses (clutch-type bags about the size of your hand) 4.5” x 6.5” or less in size (1 per person) are also allowed, and do not need to be clear.

No camera or binocular cases, backpacks, fanny packs, diaper bags, and briefcases/computer bags are allowed either.

For more information on what bags are allowed,  click here .

Getting Taylor Swift tickets at MetLife was no problem for this Bergen official. See how

W hen Taylor Swift announced her "Eras Tour" last November, her fans crashed the Ticketmaster website trying to get some of the most coveted concert tickets in recent history. Most were left heartbroken and without tickets, but one Bergen County official secured four tickets to Friday's show at MetLife Stadium by just filling out a form.

Bergen County Clerk John Hogan said he began making calls to get concert tickets for his 13-year-old daughter in early January. A New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority Board of Commissioners member suggested he fill out a ticket request form for MetLife Stadium.

Hogan said he filled out the form, faxed it in and in March was told there were four tickets available for him to purchase. Including fees, Hogan paid $265 for each ticket. On Tuesday, he said he didn't know the section or seat numbers off the top of his head.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

"I paid what they asked me to pay on my debit card," Hogan said, adding that he doesn't believe he received special treatment. "I had to wait like everyone else. It's not like I was trying to get them now and got pushed to the front of the line."

Hogan said his wife and daughter, her daughter's best friend and her mother will be attending the show.

Swift will be performing sold-out shows at MetLife Stadium on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Another batch of tickets became available for verified fans on May 16, and again there was high demand .

The form Hogan sent out is not available to the public and was sent to his personal email. After filling it out, Hogan said, he faxed it in and waited to hear back. Emails sent to MetLife Stadium and the NJSEA press emails seeking more information were not immediately returned.

Story continues below gallery of 2018 Taylor Swift Metlife Stadium concert.

A copy of the filled-out form, sent to NorthJersey.com anonymously, shows that Hogan checked the box indicating that the tickets were for personal use and listed his personal email address and cellphone number. He did not list his county title on the form.

In November, Ticketmaster announced that it was canceling a Swift general public sale because of the huge demand for tickets. Ticket prices were $49 to $449 before fees, and higher for VIP packages.

Tickets on Tuesday were selling on secondary resale market websites for $2,000 each or more. A Massachusetts father paid $21,000 on Stub Hub for Swift concert tickets for his daughter, according to Yahoo News.

“Due to extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand, tomorrow's public on-sale for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour has been canceled,” said the company.

The initial presale was supposed to be open to 1.5 million verified fans, but 14 million people and bots tried to get tickets, Live Nation Chairman Greg Maffei said on CNBC.

“Daily reminder that Ticketmaster is a monopoly, its merger with LiveNation should never have been approved,” tweeted U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., at the time.

The Senate Judiciary Committee's antitrust subcommittee held a hearing in January to question whether Live Nation Entertainment, the owner of Ticketmaster, needs to be broken up.

No 'Taylor-gating': New Jersey authorities warn Swifties against tailgating at her concert

Never underestimate the determination of a Swiftie .

Devoted fans of Taylor Swift who weren't able to get tickets to her Eras Tour have resorted to tailgating outside the New Jersey stadium where Swift is performing this week.

The MetLife stadium where Swift is playing, along with state authorities, have already gotten involved. On Friday, MetLife released in a statement on social media stating fans will be barred from entering the stadium parking lot if they do not have a ticket to the concert.

New Jersey State Police echoed the sentiment on social media .

"Sorry Swifties – No Ticket, No Taylor-Gating," read their Instagram post. "Only patrons with concert tickets for the day of the event will be granted access to the parking lots. Tickets will not be sold at the stadium."

With ticket prices in the thousands and presales selling out quickly, fans are finding workarounds to see (or hear) Swift anyway.

Many are choosing to park at the nearby American Dream mall or catch a train before walking over to MetLife.

Longtime Swiftie Allison Ekeman and her 10-year-old daughter Kayleigh originally intended to sit in the MetLife stadium’s parking lot, but will now walk over from the mall. They will enjoy the Saturday show outside the stadium walls with a blanket to lay on while singing Swift’s top hits.

“I’m not willing to spend over a $1,000 on tickets, but I can stand outside for free,” Ekeman said.

Ekeman said other fans will likely be doing the same, as she saw on TikTok and other social media platforms including last weekend’s Philadelphia show. Andover Township native Stephanie Poli-Zilinski got the same idea after presales sold out and ticket prices went up in the thousands.

Since listening to Swift’s debut single “Tim McGraw,” Poli-Zilinski has been a devoted Swiftie and eventually brought her daughter Ainsley into the Taylor community as well. They plan to park at American Dream early from the comfort of their minivan.

MetLife experienced a sampling of the Taylor Swift mania to come this weekend with the merchandise store opening on May. 25. Fans started camping in line around 10 p.m. the night before and waited for hours doors to open at 10 a.m.

Metlife stadium: the venue for the 2026 world cup final.

MetLife Stadium is the venue for the 2026 World Cup final and has a capacity of over 80,000.

  • MetLife Stadium will host the 2026 World Cup final, having edged out competitors due to its public transport accessibility and range of accommodation.
  • The construction cost of the stadium was over $2 billion (£1.6 billion) to construct in 2010 and has a capacity of 82,500.
  • MetLife Stadium has hosted major events like the Super Bowl, WrestleMania, music concerts, and football (soccer) matches.

On 4th February 2024, MetLife Stadium was announced by FIFA as the host of the 2026 World Cup final. The New Jersey/New York-based stadium narrowly won the battle to host the final, ahead of SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and AT&T Stadium near Dallas, Texas.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and New York City Mayor Eric Adams were critical in securing the stadium as the host venue for the final. Reasons such as the accessibility of the ground, the transport links in both cities, and the amount of accommodation in New York were cited as the main reasons for the successful pitch.

Key Stadium Details

Located in East Rutherford, New Jersey, MetLife Stadium is mainly used for American Football, and is the home ground for both the New York Giants and New York Jets. These two teams play in different conferences, though, with the Giants playing in the National Football Conference and the Jets competing in the American Football Conference. One of the most memorable moments ever at MetLife Stadium was Odell Beckham Jr.'s 43-yard catch for the New York Giants against the Dallas Cowboys in November 2014, which is widely regarded as one of the best in NFL history.

The stadium opened in 2010 at a construction cost of over $2bn (£1.6bn), making it the second most expensive stadium in the United States, behind SoFi Stadium, which reportedly cost over $5bn. A striking feature of the stadium is the four LED display screens dotted in each corner. These screens measure 30 inches by 118 inches and provide spectators with different views of the action from inside the arena.

MetLife's total capacity is 82,500, but it can reach up to 83,500 for American football matches. The stadium includes a lower, middle, and upper bowl to house spectators. The record attendance for an American Football game was on 29th October 2023, when the New York Giants played the New York Jets in front of 83,367. Meanwhile, 82,262 fans attended the pre-season match between Manchester United and Arsenal in July 2022 - this remains the highest attendance at the stadium for a football (soccer) match.

8 Records That Could be Broken at the 2026 World Cup

Seating chart/seat view.

Fans in all parts of the ground are treated to a unique spectacle with the LED screens visible from every seat, as well as various hospitality opportunities. On the 'Seating & Maps' section of their website, MetLife Stadium adds that "Throughout the game, fans are treated to increased leg room and seat width." There are also four club lounges and 10,000 seats for fans looking to take advantage of the hospitality spaces.

You can access the Seating Chart here, which highlights the different entry points and suites across the stadium. Before visiting MetLife Stadium, it is also worth checking out the Interactive Map. This allows you to take a look at every concourse and shows you the various concession stores located across the stadium. Since it was opened in 2010, the facility has been one of the most technologically advanced in the world, which includes the newly announced point-of-sale transactions at the stadium in partnership with Shift4. In February 2024, Ron VanDe Veen, President and CEO of the Stadium said:

"With the large number of world-class events we host at our stadium, we require systems that are not only robust and reliable, but also on the cutting edge of the technology frontier. With their industry-leading approach to point-of-sale systems, Shift4 is the best platform to handle our needs. The modern hardware terminals, along with their integration of payment processing, loyalty, mobile and in-suite ordering will provide our guests an improved experience at all food and beverage locations."

10 Greatest USA Players in Football History [Ranked]

Parking at MetLife Stadium opens five hours before an event and closes two hours after an event has finished. If ticket holders arrive earlier than five hours before the scheduled start time of an event, they will not be permitted to enter the parking areas on the complex. It is also worth noting that overnight parking at MetLife Stadium is not allowed. Pre-paid parking permits are also not available to buy for non-NFL events, but this might change for games that take place in the 2026 World Cup.

Accessible parking for guests with disabilities can be found in Lots E, F, and G. To gain access to these parking lots, ticket holders must have a valid ADA license plate or a valid ADA hang tag. Staff at the stadium will help direct ticket holders with disabilities to their parking space. Guests with disabilities must also be dropped off at Lot C. The other drop-off and pick-up spots for fans are located between parking lots D and E, which are free of charge. Information about General Event parking can be found on the website, with maps highlighting the various parking lots located just outside the stadium.

World Cup 2026 Stadium Guide

Historic events at metlife stadium.

As well as hosting the Super Bowl in 2014, MetLife Stadium has a proven track record of hosting big sporting events and popular music concerts. On two occasions, MetLife Stadium has been the venue for WrestleMania. The first of these was on 7th April 2013 when 80,676 people attended the biggest event in wrestling. Six years later, on the same date, MetLife Stadium hosted Wrestlemania 35, which saw 82,265 attend the event. MetLife Stadium has also hosted outdoor ice hockey games, with the most recent match between the New York Rangers and the New York Islanders being played in front of nearly 80,000 fans.

MetLife Stadium has also hosted numerous high-profile music concerts since opening in 2010. Taylor Swift, One Direction, Coldplay, and Ed Sheeran have all performed here. Notably, in June 2023, nearly 90,000 spectators watched Ed Sheeran perform at the arena, which broke the attendance record at the stadium. Only a month before, Taylor Swift had broken the attendance record during her three-day Eras Tour.

World Cup 2026: Dates, Schedule, Fixtures, Stadiums and More

Football history at metlife stadium.

The first football match at MetLife Stadium was on 7th May 2010, in an international friendly between Mexico and Ecuador in front of 77,507 spectators. Since 2010, the United States have played four matches at MetLife Stadium. When they faced Argentina in March 2011, nearly 79,000 fans attended the game, which remains the most for a USA match.

Club matches have also taken place at the New Jersey-based venue. It has been a popular destination for European teams' pre-season tours of America in June and July. Heavyweight clashes such as Liverpool against Manchester City , and Real Madrid against Bayern Munich, have both been hosted at MetLife Stadium.

The 2016 Copa America final took place at MetLife Stadium. It was contested between Chile and Argentina, with Chile winning 4-2 in a penalty shootout after it finished 0-0 in normal time. It will also host three matches in the upcoming Copa America this summer, including two group games and a semi-final match on 9th July 2024. The first of these matches sees the defending champions, Argentina, against Chile on 25th June, followed by Uruguay against Bolivia two days later.
