I imagine the issue is with the availability of seat selection rather than the seats being sold out. I would roll up to the check-in counter at the airport as early as possible.

"I tried checking in online and it says its unavailable for this booking."

My guess is that SQ staff at the check in counters would like to verify/check your travel documents/visas, etc. so I wouldn't be too worried. Unfortunately, you will probably miss out on choosing better seats.

Ahh okay..that's a shame. Bit annoyed but will try and sort by going early to airport. Thank you.

Correction:

Sorry, I meant QR as SQ stands for Singapore A1rlines.

Whether you’re off on a vacation with the family, or perhaps a business trip on your own, give your journey a great start.

Reaching the check-in area

Check-in usually opens three hours before your flight’s departure time, and closes 60 minutes before your flight takes off.

Please make sure you’re carrying all the required travel documents with you. These include your ticket, passport, exit permit, and destination visas.

Depending on your airline and ticket, there are different ways to reach the check-in area:

  • If you’re flying with Qatar Airways as a First or Business Class passenger, then you will find it most convenient to enter the Departure hall through Entry Gate 1 ( map ) and, if required, use the East short-term car park ( map ).
  • If you are a Qatar Airways Privilege Club member or a  one world customer, your check-in counter is located in row 3 and if required use the West short term car park ( map ).
  • If you’re flying with Qatar Airways as an Economy Class passenger, then you will it easiest to enter the Departure hall through Entry Gates 2 and 3 ( map ), and, if required, use the West short-term car park ( map ).
  • If you’re flying with any airline other than Qatar Airways, then you will find it easiest to enter the Departure hall through Entry Gate 4 ( map ), and, if required, use the West short-term car park ( map ).

Trolleys and porters

Baggage trolleys are provided free of charge. If you need help with your baggage, then our porters are available for a fixed fee.

Finding your check-in row

There are several ways to locate your check-in row inside the Departures hall:

  • If you’re flying with Qatar Airways as a First or Business Class passenger, then your check-in rows are located towards the right-hand side of the Departures hall ( map ). For Qatar Airways First Class passengers, please proceed to  Al Safwa First in row 1, which offers private seated check-in desks, a concierge, bellhops and other exclusive facilities. If travelling in Qatar Airways Business Class, please proceed to Al Mourjan Business in row 2.
  • For Qatar Airways Privilege Club members or  one world customers, your check-in counter is located in row 3.
  • Qatar Airways Economy Class check-in counters are located in rows 4 to 6 and all other airline Economy class counters are from rows 7 to 10.
  • Please ask at the information desk (located near row 8) if you need any guidance. There are also several information displays throughout the Departures hall that provide flight information and check-in row numbers.
  • You can use our  airport planner  to locate the check-in row assigned to your flight. Simply enter your flight number to get started.
  • You can approach one of our information desks for assistance. These are located near check-in Rows 3 and 6 ( map ).

Self check-in

If your airline offers a self check-in option, then you can find our self-service kiosks located throughout the check-in area ( map ). Once you’ve checked yourself in, you can proceed to the baggage drop-off counter assigned to your flight.

one world passengers

If you’re flying with an airline that’s part of  one world Alliance, then you’re eligible for privileged check-in services. Please visit  one world website  for more information.

Priority processing

All  Al Maha customers ,  special assistance travellers  and  unaccompanied minors  receive priority processing when checking-in at Hamad International Airport.

Oversized baggage

If you’re checking-in oversized baggage, you’ll be directed to special check-in counters. These are the last counters of check-in Rows 3 and 8 ( map ).

Travelling with animals

If you’re  travelling with animals , please take the animal(s) with you to your check-in counter. Please make sure you’re carrying all the required documentation and have arranged everything with your airline in advance.

Things to avoid

  • Expectant mothers who are more than 28 weeks pregnant should not attempt to check-in without a medical certificate confirming they’re fit for air travel. To avoid any inconvenience at the airport, it’s best to contact the airline in advance, and provide details about the mother’s medical status.
  • If you’re wearing a full-leg cast (and are unable to bend your leg), your airline might not be able to find a suitable seat for you on the aircraft. Please don’t attempt to check-in without giving your airline advance notice.

Solving problems

  • If your checked baggage exceeds the weight allowance mentioned on your airline ticket, you may need to pay excess baggage fees. Please visit the appropriate excess baggage office ( map ) :

-Qatar Airways First and Business Class – at the beginning of check-in Rows 1 and 2( map ).

-Qatar Airways Economy Class – at the end of check-in Row 3

-All other airlines – At the end of check-in Row 8

  • If you’re late for check-in, please approach your airline’s check-in counters for assistance.

Helpful tips

  • Expectant mothers who are more than 28 weeks pregnant should carry a medical certificate confirming that they’re fit for air travel.
  • Special assistance travellers  should give their airline as much advance notice as possible regarding any specific requirements or needs.
  • Parents or guardians of  unaccompanied minors  should give the airline as much advance notice as possible, and make sure they’re carrying all the required documentation.
  • Passengers who are  travelling with animals  should confirm that they’ve correctly prepared all the required documentation that is needed at departure, and on arrival.

kumar1178

hey faheemi07  i cant understand that how can u left your job so soon, b'cause in qatar airways u need to sign a 3yr open ended contract, than how can u resign in just 10months???

Faheemi07

I am agree with all of you & that is my personal experience in the Qatar Airways because I am the ex employee of the Qatar Airways. That is worst airline the the earth, Unprofessional management and worst policies, no benefits and just the playing with employees as a free ticket. I was joined the Qatar Airways on March 2010 and left the company Dec 2010.

Thanks all of you to have good remarks about cheep labor company.

anonymous

i heard that even FA-flight attendant, they are BIg bitch!

Mandilulur

My understanding is that baby was complaining as a Qatar Airways employee about the treatment she got from the airport staff when she recently traveled as a space-available, non-revenue passenger (of course I could be wrong, that's only my rough translation.) As an airline employee she would have been told that her travel was a privilege and that all other passengers had priority over her in terms of boarding and services. Baby, if this is the case, please be careful. If you are a QR employee, do NOT complain publicly about your job or your airline. That is expressly against airline policy and you could find yourself on a one-way flight very soon!

King_fara07

From the point of my view QA are giving the best services as much as they can, so far I haven't had any bad experience from them.

unfortunately Baby222 had a bad experience and she shared in the forum it doesn't mean Fubar you just hurt them through your words. QL can be used by anybody it doesn't mean you should only know english, as far as you understand what is the question or topic.

just help others with your point of view."No body is perfect"

Baby222 just try once again with QA, I am sure you will get some good feedback next time.

Have a gud evening,,

"Winners never quit, quiter's never win"

fubar

I must be really drunk, because I can't make any sense of that?

All I'm saying is that someone appears to be complaining about something, and I pointed out that perhaps this could be due to his/her language skills.

Is there anyone who can actually tell me what this post is about?

Braveheartqatar

fubar your not reading between the lines..u dont have the right to judge the opinion of others...i see ...ur only at the cover of your color..

All of your posts are negative about Qatar, why? You're kidding yourself.

goaboy

what do they need revenue for every body knows the money to fund them comes from oil and gas so why do they need t6o depend on revenue they are semi goverment

Qatarhomeboy

Baby222 clearly from your post , it looks like you are not actually a Qatar Airways staff hence you do not realise why Full paying passengers are more important than staff travelling, If it wasnt for the company taking care of things like these it would be going bankrupt or downsizing its staff like what most other airlines are doing with the recent financial crunch.

I have a question... were you speaking in English to the airport staff? If so, no wonder you got screwed around. I've tried reading your post over and over, and I cannot work out what the hell you are trying to say.

Try finding a site that will let you post in your mother tongue. Perhaps then people will be able to understand your writing, because clearly English isn't something you are very fluent in.

yes i agree with u even the airports worst but the qatar airways services great...specially stewrdess they all awesome...

Baby, you mean that QR doesn't treat non-revenue staff travelers the same as full-fare paying, revenue-generating passengers? Welcome to the airline world, babygirl!

it would be a different case i have a friend in eithad who tells me that they treat their employees very nicely.well sorry to say in the case off qatar airways they threat their employees like shit anyway the company also is not very good heard a lot of nasty things abt it.

the airport is to small well the airline is intrested only in making profit they dont care abt staff .profit is the name of the game

I think they are great. You're kidding yourself.

How your passport and pernickety rules could stop YOU from travelling

British holiday-makers are being warned about pernickety rules on passports which could ruin travel plans - after families were denied permission to fly.

Small paper tears and ink stains are among the petty hindrances which have seen families turned back at airport check-ins, the latest victims being a Rochdale family of three.

They say they they lost out on a £2,500 holiday after a father was stopped from boarding the plane due to a 'near invisible' ink stain on his passport.

Charlotte Estlick had wanted to jet off from Manchester Airport for a package holiday to Dalaman in Turkey with her husband Myk, 28, and their six-year-old daughter Nyla.

But after arriving at Terminal 2 to check-in on May 3, the mother-of-one claims her partner was refused travel due to his passport being lightly marked with blue ink after appearing to have got wet.

Another traveller who found himself frustrated was 31-year-old Nathan Barnes, from Norwich, who was told he could not fly because his passport was more than 10 years old  - despite not having expired yet.

He was travelling with his fiancé to visit family in Limoge, France, but fell foul of a new rule brought in since Britain left the EU.

Meanwhile, another devastated family spent £7,000 on a luxury family holiday to Thailand only to be rejected at the airport when check-in staff discovered a tiny tear in a passport .

Oldham childminder Suzanne Senior's daughter Bethany had a millimetre-long tear in her passport, spotted by Qatar Airways staff also at Manchester Airport.

And a Ryanair passenger was unable to board a flight for a £1,000 dream holiday because of a tiny tear in his passport, it was reported in January this year.

Jake Burton, 19, from Mansfield, was due to go on his first-ever flight to Benidorm with his parents to celebrate the New Year.

But the discount airline told him he was unable to board  after he failed the final check.

A spokesperson for Ryanair said: 'This 19-year-old adult passenger was correctly refused travel on this flight from East Midlands to Alicante by the gate agent at East Midlands Airport as his passport was damaged and therefore not valid for travel.'

The UK Government website states that 'a damaged passport is one which the customer cannot use as proof of identity because of its condition'.

The website goes on to detail several scenarios where a passport is deemed damage - including 'laminate peeling' and 'back or personal details page has been cut'.

Travel experts have pointed out some of the essential yet lesser-known rules regarding passports which holiday-makers should bear in mind this summer.

When travelling to the EU, a 10-year British passport is only valid for entry for exactly 10 years after the date of issue, regardless of the date of expiry.

Before September 2018, passport holders could have up to nine months added to their passport expiry date if they renewed their 10-year passport early.

Yet Post-Brexit, while the official validity of your passport may be beyond 10 years, the European Union does not recognise these extra months if your passport is older than a decade on the date you enter an EU nation.

On top of this, you must also have at least three months' validity on your passport beyond the date you intend to leave the EU's free-movement Schengen territory.

This means visitors must pay careful attention to the issue date and the expiry date.

Travellers are also advised to always check the specific entry requirements for the country being visited on the gov.uk website, since regulations around passport validity vary from nation to nation.

Most countries such as Australia, Canada and the USA just need your passport to be valid for the length of your stay.

But others such as China, Thailand, Egypt and Turkey require at least six months - and, as above, you will need at least three months' validity on your passport from the intended day of departure from the EU.

As well as being on the alert for tears or stains, people should also be wary of running out of space if a passport is filling up with stamps - and should be renewed if there is little room left, even if it still has years to run before expiring.

Some countries can be fussy about passports with filled pages - with Italy and South Africa among those who insist on at least two being entirely blank.

Those who have enough time before setting off have also been encouraged to apply for a new passport online rather than by post.

The current fee for a standard online application made from within the UK is £88.50 for adults and £57.50 for children, increased last month from £82.50 and £53.50.

At the same time the cost of a standard postal application rose from £93 to £100 for adults and from £64 to £69 for children.

Passports are usually issued within three weeks if applying within the UK, but customers are advised to apply in good time before travelling, according to gov.uk.

There are two ways to apply for an urgent passport, the first being a 'one-day Premium' service.

Customers are asked to book an appointment at their nearest passport office, apply and pay online, before getting their new passport at their appointment.

The second is the one-week' fast track' service, by which customers can also book an appointment at their nearest passport office, apply and pay online.

This time a new passport is delivered to their home within the subsequent seven days, excluding bank holidays - but passport office appointment slots, each lasting around 10 minutes, are snapped up quickly.

The one-day premium service costs £193.50 for an adult passport, while the one-week fast track service sets people back £155 for the same.

Those needing a passport to travel urgently for healthcare or because a loved one is seriously ill or has died are urged to call the 'Passport Adviceline' instead.

A complete guide to elite status in the oneworld alliance.

Ruby, Emerald, and Sapphires are the tiers to strive for within the oneworld Alliance.

Over the years, we have analyzed the elite status initiatives of the big three airline alliances. Today, we are taking a look at one world . With 13 full members and 535 million passengers carried at its peak, the alliance is one you're likely to come across most often. As such, here's a guide to elite status with the alliance, whose members include British Airways, American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airways , and many more.

Three tiers

Unlike Star Alliance , which we covered in our previous edition , and SkyTeam , one world offers three elite tiers, eloquently named Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald . Airlines usually map these over to bronze, silver, and gold in their own programs, although it varies across carriers, and there is no one standard.

Ruby members receive the following benefits with all member airlines:

  • Access to business class check-in queues
  • Priority waitlist places
  • Access to preferred seats on planes*

*Each airline has its own policy for preferred seats and when they can be selected.

Ruby status also almost always provides priority boarding with a member airline, but this isn't guaranteed.

Additionally, benefits vary dramatically by airline. For example, American Airlines offers a free checked bag and advanced seat selection with one world Ruby. On the other end, British Airways only offers access to premium economy check-in desks (in London Heathrow) and seat selection seven days in advance.

Next step: Sapphire and Emerald

While Ruby already has some attractive benefits, things start to get particularly nice with Sapphire status. In addition to the Ruby perks, you will also get:

  • Access to business class lounges
  • Priority boarding, check-in, and baggage handling
  • Extra luggage*

*While the extra luggage policy varies, it usually allows for one additional checked bag (although British Airways' handbag-only fares are excluded).

If you're looking for the best of the best only, one world's highest tier is where you want to aim. Emerald status comes with all the above perks and,

  • Access to first class lounges
  • Fast-track security, check-in lanes, and immigration (where available)
  • First class check-in, early boarding, and advance seat selection

Get all the latest on loyalty news right here !

one world's three-tier system means that more benefits are available and easy to reach. While Silver with Star Alliance comes with few guaranteed benefits, Ruby with one world and 'Elite' with SkyTeam provide a lot more bang for your buck if you routinely fly outside your home airline's base.

Variations per airline

As we've noted, airlines set their own policies for status holders and tend to privilege their own members over those of other airlines. American Airlines is a prime example of this since it only allows complimentary upgrades from its own AAdvantage program members. This means that even Emerald status holders of other carriers aren't eligible for free upgrades when flying.

What Is American Airlines Elite Status & How Do You Get It?

Moreover, airlines often launch special promotions to incentivize their passengers. For instance, Qatar Airways now offers credit cards that come with elite status. The pair of the Doha-based carrier's cobranded credit cards offer up to 5,000 Avios alongside other elite status perks, including VISA Infinite concierge, luxury hotel, and rental car services.

Qatar Airways Chief Commercial Officer, Mr Thierry Antinori, shared the following about the credit card benefits in a statement last week:

“As the loyalty programme to a leader in the aviation industry, we strive to uphold the same level of dedication in providing our members with the best benefits across the globe. We are proud to be partnering with Cardless to introduce the first Qatar Airways Privilege Club Credit Cards in the U.S. market, which also includes being the first international airline loyalty programme to offer a Visa Infinite credit card."

Qatar Airways Unveils US Credit Cards That Come With oneworld Elite Status

Passengers in the United States have recently found another path to Elite status following Alaska Airlines's entry to one world. The Seattle-based operator became the 14th member of the alliance in March 2021 (S7 was suspended following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, bringing the number of members back down to 13), providing new opportunities for travelers west of the Atlantic.

The Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan program has four elite status levels, and progress is measured via "elite qualifying miles." The carrier introduced its highest level, MVP Gold 100K, in 2022, giving qualifying passengers a higher chance of upgrades.

Alaska Airlines also allows frequent flyers to status match , enabling them to enjoy elite benefits with others while enjoying the perks they've accrued. The company notes that the following airlines are applicable for status matching with its program:

  • American Airlines
  • Delta Air Lines
  • Frontier Airlines
  • Hawaiian Airlines
  • Southwest Airlines
  • United Airlines

Other one world members that provide status-matching opportunities include American Airlines and Royal Air Maroc . Royal Jordanian also announced earlier this year that it launched a one world Sapphire status match promotion .

Plenty on offer

All in all, one world guarantees a fixed set of privileges to all members, regardless of airline affiliation. So be sure to double-check which perks you want and which program offers them.

What do you think about oneworld's elite status tiers and benefits? Have you reached elite status through any of these initiatives over the years? Let us know what you think of these programs and their offerings in the comment section.
