Why Our Tours Are Top-Rated

Favicon

The trip to LA covered everything we wanted to see and more! We learned so much and were well entertained. On our second day with Thomas which was a day trip to Universal, he went way beyond the call of duty and on our way to Universal he brought us close to the Hollywood sign where we got some great pictures.

We needed to make the most of a 4 day holiday in California and wanted to see Hollywood without wasting any time. Our guide was knowledgeable in all kinds of historical facts and knew how to prioritize. There was something for everyone in our eclectic family. We all truly enjoyed our day. Great tour. Highly recommend!

We booked a coastal beach tour for our family of 6. Tom took us to some hidden treasures. We had such a great time we ended up booking a LA/Hollywood tour later in the week! He made it fun and interesting. Highly recommend, worth the money. You’ll get a better experience from Tom than one of those “cookie-cutter” tours.

I had never been to California and wanted to make the most of my trip. What I didn't anticipate was all of the great information about famous spots! You can tell he really cares about your experience and for that, I really appreciated all of the hard work he put in that day. Highly recommend!

My fourteen-year-old son and I did the Hollywood tour. We stayed at Huntington Beach and were picked up right on time as well as returned when stated. The tour was well worth it. To see the Hollywood sign, walk of fame, movie stars home and more!

My husband and I had a wonderful excursion with Thomas. He was very knowledgeable about the area and did a great job pointing out interesting landmarks from Huntington Beach to Hollywood. We were able to see all the highlights in Hollywood/Beverly Hills, as well as a stop for lunch at the Farmer's Market. Our favorite part of the trip was a stop at the gorgeous Greystone Mansion. We felt like we were on a movie set while walking the grounds of this amazing gem.

My daughter and I had an awesome tour provided by Thomas. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. This was an all-day trip starting at our hotel with pickup. We were very comfortable in his Mercedes van with great views out all sides. We toured Hollywood, Beverly Hills and parts of L.A. We stopped for lunch at the Farmers Market that has a large variety of places to eat. This was our first trip to California and we feel we got the royal treatment from Thomas. He even helped out by taking photos! Thanks!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour today with Tom. He was very knowledgeable and informative throughout the entire tour. He took us to all of the points of interest as described in his tour and also added some additional points. We highly recommended Surf City Adventure Tours and would definitely book again the next time we visit Huntington Beach.

Tom was a great guide and full of interesting facts. He was extremely helpful too. I liked that the tour went to some unusual spots which other tours wouldn't tend to know about. Tom had also verified all the information he gave us. The van is great and really well-equipped.

Just like you, we were wondering how to fit everything in that you "must-see" while in California. Thanks to Tom and his Hollywood Sightseeing Tour we felt like we show everything and so much more. This is a must-do tour. We did not feel rushed or bored. Tom is very knowledgeable, funny and he does all the driving so you don't have to (believe me you do not want to drive). If I know of someone going to Orange County I would definitely recommend this tour!

Los Angeles Angels

Los angeles angels | analysis: the angels hoped for the best, and this is what they got, the angels are off to one of the worst starts in franchise history because their plan for a winning team hinged on improvement from their young players and better health from their veterans, and neither has happened so far.

la tours from orange county

The Angels are 16-28. It equals the second-worst start in franchise history, better only than their 14-30 record in 1969.

While it has been disappointing for the Angels and their fans, it should not be a surprise to anyone.

The Angels are here because of decisions they made, starting with owner Arte Moreno.

The Angels won 73 games last season and then lost Shohei Ohtani, who was both their best pitcher and best hitter. They did not replace him with either a frontline pitcher or hitter.

That was the result of Moreno’s decision to cut payroll. The Angels’ payroll, as it’s calculated for the luxury tax, was around $233 million in 2023, and it’s around $191 million for 2024, according to FanGraphs .

Moreno said during spring training that his plan was to “set the budget lower. … I’m not going to spend money just to show that we’re going to spend money unless it’s going to substantially change the team.”

Moreno said in that same interview that he was excited by the young players.

“I am in it because I believe we can build a team to win,” he said.

In order to win in 2024, the Angels needed significant development from their young core and improved health from their veterans.

Whether that was a realistic expectation or an overly optimistic fantasy, it’s clear that neither has happened so far.

Injuries have once again decimated the roster. Four of the 13 position players who were on the Opening Day roster are now on the injured list, including the three with the biggest salaries: Mike Trout, Anthony Rendon and Brandon Drury. (They could get Miguel Sanó back in the next few days.)

The result has been a lineup that regularly includes players who were recently released or designated for assignment by other teams.

The Angels lost starting pitcher Chase Silseth, which resulted in José Soriano moving from the bullpen to the rotation. They lost reliever Robert Stephenson , who was their biggest acquisition of the winter. The top three experienced relievers remaining – Carlos Estévez, Matt Moore and Luis Garcia – have all underperformed.

As for the young players the Angels hoped would improve, outfielder Jo Adell is the only one who has done so. Shortstop Zach Neto, left-hander Reid Detmers and catcher Logan O’Hoppe – arguably the top three young players on the roster – are all essentially who they were last year. First baseman Nolan Schanuel didn’t play enough last season for anyone to really know what he could be this season, and he’s been understandably inconsistent.

Left-hander Patrick Sandoval, right-hander Griffin Canning and outfielder Taylor Ward have all lived up exactly to their career expectations. They have shown flashes of their potential, but with struggles in between.

All of the aforementioned players have clearly demonstrated the talent to be quality major leaguers, pieces of a winning team. Some nights they show it, like in their impressive victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday .

Many other days have been like Monday ( the bullpen meltdown ) or Tuesday ( the failed squeeze ), when they did plenty of things right, but just enough wrong to end up with a list of what-ifs and almosts that lead to a loss.

The Angels rank 14th in the majors in OPS (.704), 15th in runs per game (4.27), 28th in ERA (4.77), 24th in starter ERA (4.50), 30th in reliever ERA (5.17) and 26th in FanGraphs defensive runs saved (-14).

According to FanGraphs, the Angels have a 1.5% chance to make the playoffs. Baseball-reference has them at 0.1%.

Despite all of that, Angels manager Ron Washington talks optimistically every day about the long-term trajectory of the team.

“I evaluate it by the growth,” Washington said. “Adell’s growing up. Neto is growing up. Our pitching staff is growing up. O’Hoppe is growing up. That’s how I evaluate it. This is a learning curve for those young kids. And they are experiencing what it takes to win. When we lose a ballgame, we got education, and our education is what it may have taken to win that game. And we do have quality in there to do that. But we just gotta keep driving. You gotta learn. They’re getting better. It may not look like it in the record, but they are getting better. We are playing so much better baseball than we were earlier. Now we just gotta keep grinding. The victories are going to come.”

ROSTER MOVES

The Angels activated infielder Luis Rengifo on Thursday, marking the first time this season that anyone has returned from the injured list. Rengifo had been out with a virus. The Angels created a spot for Rengifo by optioning infielder Niko Goodrum.

The Angels also reportedly are set to acquire right-hander Roansy Contreras from the Pittsburgh Pirates. Contreras, 24, had been designated for assignment by the Pirates. He had a 4.41 ERA with 16 strikeouts and eight walks in 16-1/3 innings.

The Angels had a spot open from optioning right-hander Davis Daniel, who they called up to provide some bullpen coverage that they ended up not needing on Wednesday. The Angels had an open spot on the 40-man roster after they designated left-hander Amir Garrett for assignment on Wednesday.

Pacifica Christian Orange County baseball walks off, sprints into first CIF final

Pacifica Christian teammates pour out of the dugout to mob Scout Escobedo (5), second from left.

Pacifica Christian Orange County had seen its three-run lead disappear and stood one out from extra innings in Tuesday’s CIF Southern Section baseball semifinal, with anything possible, good or ill, from that point.

Up walked Blake Hayes to the plate, so forget about all that.

The freshman catalyst was unstoppable in the Division 8 showdown at Orange Coast College’s John Altobelli Park — he’s been nearly so all season — and the Tritons, in just their third campaign, trotted into Saturday’s title game as his fourth extra-base hit of the afternoon was followed by Scout Escobedo’s single to the left-center field gap and then a thunderous celebration.

The 4-3 triumph over visiting San Bernardino, built primarily upon Hayes’ expertise at bat and with the glove and sophomore right-hander Jon Stone’s eloquence at the edge of the strike zone, takes Pacifica Christian Orange County (22-6) deeper into uncharted territory, gloriously so.

Pacifica Christian starting pitcher Jon Stone throws against San Bernardino on Tuesday during the Division 8 semifinals.

“It feels fantastic,” said head coach Chris Gomez, who has led the top-ranked Tritons from a tough first season to a CIF berth in year two and now within one victory of a most unexpected prize. “I went to a dark spot when they scored that three-spot [to tie it up], but I’m so happy for these kids. They support each other, they’ve been getting after it all year long, they work hard, they’re great kids. So they deserve it.”

They’ll play Saturday at 10 a.m. at Diamond Stadium, the home of the San Diego Padres’ Single-A affiliate Lake Elsinore Storm. Their opponent is second-seeded Azusa (17-5), a 9-5 winner at Edgewood in the other Division 8 semifinal.

“This means everything to me and this program,” said Escobedo, who had hit the ball hard but at fielders in his first three at-bats. “It’s the third year, so no one really expects us to be in the championship this early in the program, but we’re glad to be here.”

They’ve advanced this far mostly behind underclassmen. Escobedo, too, is a freshman, among five in the Tritons’ lineup Tuesday, alongside three sophomores and junior Keegan DeMots behind the plate. Of 20 players on the roster, only four are upperclassmen. Thirteen are freshmen.

Pacifica Christian's Scout Escobedo (5) drives in the game winning, walk-off run to secure the win against San Bernardino.

“They’re a young team, for the most part,” Gomez said. “Really young, so what they’re doing all year is pretty impressive for such a young ball club.”

Pacifica Christian, which had out-tallied its first three postseason foes by a combined 38-6, was in command most of the way in this one. The hosts took a 3-0 lead in the third inning through No. 9 hitter DeMots’ leadoff single, triples by Hayes and sophomore shortstop John Coopman’s and sophomore left fielder Reed Fry’s sacrifice fly.

That ought to have been enough, given Stone’s precision on the mound. He’d allowed just one hit through 5 1/3 innings, with 46 of 58 pitches for strikes.

Then things went awry in the sixth. Miller dropped a throw from Hayes on what should have been the second out, and Aiden Zuno followed with a single to right. Both runners moved up on a sacrifice bunt. Then Stone plunked Alexander De La Paz, and San Bernardino (15-5) had bases loaded.

Antonio Quintero ripped a triple to the wall in left-center and it was 3-3.

Pacifica Christian second baseman Johnny Coopman (10) tags out Isiah Wells (4) as he attempts to steal second base.

“At that point, I feel it’s back to 0-0,” said Stone (6-2), who ended up with a four-hitter, eight strikeouts and 66 strikes on 86 pitches and has a 0.88 ERA with 59 strikeouts and just five walks in 39 2/3 innings for the year. “This is where I start over and show them my stuff again.”

He’d noticed that “the low outside corner was being called [for strikes],” hit his spots, and it led to the strikeouts and 10 grounders, two off them very high choppers that Hayes handled expertly, beating both runners by a step.

“He’s a bulldog out there,” said Gomez, who has Coopman (7-1, 0.56 ERA) ready for the final. “He pounds the zone all day long and hits spots, and it’s a good recipe to be a solid pitcher.”

Right-hander Zuno, who relieved struggling starter Shaun Bonds after successive walks to start the bottom of the second, retired the Tritons in the sixth, striking out the last two. The fourth-seeded Cardinals made nothing from a one-out single in the seventh, and it looked like Pacifica Christian wouldn’t, either.

Then Hayes, who is hitting .447, stepped in.

Along with that triple, he’d doubled twice, in the first and the fifth, stealing third base after both — his 30th and 31st stolen bases of the season — but advancing no further. He worked Zuno to a full count, berating himself after taking a strike down the middle, then popped the ball up not far beyond second base. Rikou Sasser raced in but couldn’t reach it, and Hayes took second when it bounced over the center fielder’s head.

Pacifica Christian's Blake Hayes (2) holds up at second base after hitting a double against San Bernardino on Tuesday.

“Blake has been doing [what he did today] all year,” Gomez said. “He’s the spark plug at the top of the lineup, [and] we knew if we could get him on base, we had a good chance.”

With Escobedo stepping into the box, Hayes figured it was a done deal.

“I knew the game was over,” he said. “He hit the ball hard all day, and eventually the [ball] is going to drop.”

Escobedo blistered the first pitch, a fastball down the middle, into the gap in left-center, and that was that.

“Phenomenal job on [Pacifica Christian’s] side,” said San Bernardino head coach Josh Doty, whose team was seeking its first Southern Section baseball final since winning the title 99 years ago. “There’s a lot of sadness out here, and I think it’s just because the trip’s over for us, and we’ve had great time, a great experience. it’s been a heck of a ride.

“To lose to a team that like that, very respectful and just a solid team, our hat’s off to them. And now, of course, we hope they go take it.”

What are the benefits of owning vs. renting?

Owning a home can help you build equity, offers tax deductions and fixed monthly payments, and gives you a sense of permanence. When you rent, your lease sets the price, your place isn’t really yours, and there are no tax benefits or financial freedom. There are many benefits to owning a home that you can’t get with renting.
