Episodes [ ]

Summary [ ].

Star Trek: Voyager 's sixth season was the first to be televised without running concurrently with seasons of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , and can be characterized as having the feel of being oddly disconnected from seasons four and five that preceded it. As a result, Voyager's season six could be said to have more in common with the story-telling of season one , being populated by numerous episodes with story lines wholly independent of each other and the greater series arc, which by this point, was very well established. There are of course exceptions, most notably in " Pathfinder " when real-time communication is made with Starfleet, with the help of an obsessed Reginald Barclay . However, it was not until the end of the season in " Life Line " that this significant plot development was revisited.

Numerous new aliens were introduced throughout the season, again indicative of the reliance on wholly independent story lines. However, the Hirogen make a re-appearance in " Tsunkatse ", the Klingons in " Barge of the Dead ", the Borg make a (by now familiar) resurgence in " Survival Instinct ", " Collective ", " Child's Play " and the season finale " Unimatrix Zero ". The Vidiians also return in " Fury ", as does a vengeful Kes intent on sabotaging the ship, killing B'Elanna Torres in the process. Only one of the newly introduced alien species (the Hierarchy ) reappeared later, in the seventh season episodes " The Void " and " Renaissance Man ".

Worthy of particular note in the sixth season is the introduction of the treacherous Vaadwaur in " Dragon's Teeth ". While being vaunted as a possible season six nemesis for Voyager during a conversation towards the end of the episode, it was perhaps a missed opportunity on the part of the show's producers that the possibility of having the Vaadwaur return later on, was never taken up;

" I doubt we've seen the last of them ."

Despite Janeway's warning, and aside from a couple of conversational "nods" in the season seven episodes, " Nightingale " and " The Void ", the Vaadwaur were in fact, never seen again.

" Collective " halfway through the season added a significant development to the evolution of the series as Voyager 's crew manifest grew by four with the introduction of the "Children of the Borg". Season six storylines featuring the children served as an addition to Seven of Nine 's learning curve, as she took on the role of surrogate mother to the lost, and disconnected children. Although never directly spoken of in the script for either episode, with the knowledge of hindsight it is possible to note that in " Child's Play ", a surreptitious link to the series finale " Endgame " is planted when Icheb 's parents send him back to the Borg full of neurolytic pathogen . It is this same pathogen that Admiral Janeway uses when assimilated by the Borg Queen during the climax to the series finale, which infects the Collective and disables the transwarp hub, enabling Voyager to return home, and deal a crippling blow to the Borg at the same time.

A couple of small "jumps" closer to home were realized in the episodes " Dragon's Teeth " and " The Voyager Conspiracy " but nothing like the huge leaps which helped characterize the previous two seasons, and for the majority of season six, any significant "jumps" forward were missing, again likening the sixth season to the first.

The process of overcoming the difficulty in portraying Janeway as both authoritative and feminine that had dogged most of the first four seasons may have begun with season five's " Counterpoint " and her dalliance with the Devore Imperium 's Kashyk , but the dilemma finally found some resolution with the introduction of another of Tom Paris ' holodeck programs and the character of Michael Sullivan . In " Fair Haven " and " Spirit Folk " Janeway is finally able to let her hair down (in more ways than one), and the issue of fraternizing with her subordinates is happily laid to rest. This resolution however, was not without its detractors, including Kate Mulgrew herself.

" When I read that one, I went right over to (Rick) Berman's office and I said "What are you smoking?" I mean, how desperado is this broad! "

Voyager 's sixth season culminated in the assimilation of Janeway, Tuvok , and Torres, as the crew again went head to head with the Borg Queen, this time to assist an underground Borg Resistance threatened with annihilation.

Background information [ ]

  • This is the first Star Trek season since TNG Season 6 , in 1992, to premiere on its own. This coincided with the end of the seven season run of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in June 1999.
  • Discounting season premieres/finales, this was the first season since season 2 not to feature a two-part/movie length episode during its run.
  • " Barge of the Dead " featured Karen Austin as B'Elanna Torres' mother, one of the actresses apparently short-listed for the original role of Kathryn Janeway.
  • "Survival Instinct" is the first time since "Living Witness" in Season 4 that Jeri Ryan appeared in a full Borg outfit.
  • When asked what stood out about season six, Robert Beltran commented that he didn't have fun during this season, calling it " dreary and tedious " for him. [1]
  • Characters that " crossover " from other incarnations of Star Trek : Deanna Troi and Reginald Barclay (" Pathfinder " and " Life Line "); Admiral Hayes (" Life Line "); Borg Queen (" Unimatrix Zero ")

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's 10 Best Movies, Ranked

Recasting star trek: voyager for a movie reboot, seven of nine originally had a human name on star trek: voyager.

  • The Rock made an appearance on Star Trek: Voyager in a wrestling-themed episode called "Tsunkatse" in early 2000.
  • Dwayne Johnson's breakout hit "The Scorpion King" launched his successful movie career a year after his Voyager cameo.
  • Although unlikely, The Rock's character or the Pendari aliens could return in Star Trek: Prodigy.

WWE superstar Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson had a guest role in Star Trek: Voyager in the early years of his acting career. Dwayne Johnson is now one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, appearing in the Fast and Furious franchise, the DC movie Black Adam , and his biographical sitcom Young Rock . In the years before the Rock's stratospheric rise through Hollywood's ranks, the WWE legend joined the cast of Star Trek: Voyager in the wrestling-themed episode, "Tsunkatse". The Rock was cast in Voyager as a network tie-in with their fellow UPN show, WWF Smackdown .

"Tsunkatse" wasn't the only episode of Star Trek to feature a WWE star, as both Tommy "Tiny" Lister Jr. and Paul "Big Show" Wight would later appear in episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise . The Rock's Star Trek: Voyager episode is also notable for being the only one to feature Star Trek actor Jeffrey Combs . "Tsunkatse" aired in February 2000, a year before Dwayne Johnson's breakout hit The Scorpion King hit theaters and launched his hugely successful movie career.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has managed to carve a very successful film career since joining Hollywood. Here are his 10 best movies, ranked.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Star Trek: Voyager Role Explained

The Rock played the Pendari Champion in Star Trek: Voyager season 6, episode 15, "Tsunkatse" . The Voyager episode centered on a visit to Norcadia Prime, which held a brutal fighting competition known as Tsunkatse. Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) and Lt. Commander Tuvok (Tim Russ) are captured by Penk (Jeffrey Combs) and the former Borg drone is forced to fight in the competition. Seven was pitted against the Pendari Champion, who was strikingly similar to the People's Champion from the WWE. During the fight between Seven and the Pendari Champion, he arches the People's eyebrow, and delivers a devastating Rock Bottom finisher on Seven.

Hilariously, Seven of Nine actress Jeri Ryan told Big Issue that she was completely unaware of The Rock's status while filming with him. When Dwayne Johnson had finished filming his scenes for the WWE/ Star Trek: Voyager crossover, he left her a signed picture of himself in character as The Rock.

“When I got to my trailer he had left a signed picture in character as The Rock – and it said ‘The Rock smells what you’re cooking’. Like, what?! It’s the weirdest thing I’d ever seen somebody write.”

It was up to the WWE fans in the crew to explain to Jeri Ryan just who The Rock was, and what his dedication actually meant.

Will Dwayne Johnson Return To Star Trek?

While it's certainly possible that Star Trek 4 may want to secure Dwayne Johnson to boost its box office, it feels unlikely that he'll return to the franchise. However, there are various elements of The Rock's Star Trek: Voyager episode that could make a comeback in the modern franchise. Star Trek: Prodigy season 1 revealed that Rok-Tahk (Rylee Alazraqui) was part of a similar slave show, albeit one that was more stage-managed and less deadly than Tsunkatse. A return trip to the Delta Quadrant in Prodigy season 2 could, therefore, find the crew of the USS Voyager-A stumbling across more Tsunkatse matches.

The Pendari could also make a comeback in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2, especially as "Tsunkatse" didn't show the away mission to their home planet. While this may make a return appearance by Dwayne Johnson as the Pendari Champion easier to achieve as a voice role, his fee may be too high for the animated series. However, a visit to the Pendari home world in Prodigy season 2 could still update the story of Dwayne Johnson's Star Trek: Voyager character.

All episodes of Star Trek: Voyager are available to stream on Paramount+.

Star Trek Voyager

The fifth entry in the Star Trek franchise, Star Trek: Voyager, is a sci-fi series that sees the crew of the USS Voyager on a long journey back to their home after finding themselves stranded at the far ends of the Milky Way Galaxy. Led by Captain Kathryn Janeway, the series follows the crew as they embark through truly uncharted areas of space, with new species, friends, foes, and mysteries to solve as they wrestle with the politics of a crew in a situation they've never faced before.

The Star Trek: TNG Episode That Predicted DS9 & Voyager

  • Star Trek: TNG's "The Price" introduced a wormhole to the Gamma Quadrant, which is one of the concepts key to Deep Space Nine.
  • The wormhole turns out to be an unstable passage to the Delta Quadrant. which is a plot device in Star Trek: Voyager's premiere.
  • "False Profits" in Star Trek: Voyager served as a sequel to "The Price," connecting the Ferengi officers' storylines across series.

One episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation predicted main plot points of both Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager. Following the adventures of Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and the USS Enterprise-D, TNG ushered in a golden era for the Star Trek franchise. Captain Picard and his crew soon became almost as popular as the characters of Star Trek: The Original Series, and TNG laid the groundwork for much of what came after. Many elements (and characters) introduced on TNG would play a role on DS9 and Voyager, including two important references in the same episode.

In Star Trek: The Next Generation season 3, episode 8, "The Price," the Enterprise hosts several delegates who wish to bid on rights to a supposedly stable wormhole. Discovered by the Barzan people, this wormhole could provide a stable way to travel vast distances across the galaxy. The negotiator representing the Chrysalians, Devinoni Ral (Matt McCoy), finds himself drawn to Counselor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) and she shares his feelings. The two embark on a passionate romance, which takes up much of the episode's runtime, as the negotiations continue in the background. The wormhole itself serves as a precursor to DS9, and a Ferengi shuttle connects to Voyager.

Commander Nhan (Rachael Ancheril) in Star Trek: Discovery is a member of the Barzan species introduced by Star Trek: The Next Generation.

How To Watch All Star Trek TV Shows In Timeline Order

The Star Trek TV franchise has existed for 57 years and consists of 12 shows (and counting). Here's how to watch them all in timeline order.

Star Trek: TNG's "The Price" Features A Wormhole To The Gamma Quadrant

The bajoran wormhole in star trek: deep space nine remains the only truly stable wormhole in the milky way galaxy..

The wormhole at the center of the negotiations in "The Price" connects the Alpha Quadrant to the Gamma Quadrant , just like the Bajoran wormhole in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine . Since the Barzans do not have the means to control the wormhole and the space traffic that would use it, they have decided to auction it off to the highest bidder. The Federation bids for the right to control the wormhole, as do the Caldonians and the Chrysalians. When the Ferengi learn of the wormhole's existence, they insert themselves into the bidding as well.

Officially discovered by Commander Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) and Lt. Jadzia Dax (Terry Farrell) in DS9's premiere episode, the Bajoran wormhole completely changed politics in both quadrants. Space Station Deep Space 9 set up at the entrance to the wormhole, making it one of the Federation's most important outposts.

Unfortunately for everyone involved, the wormhole turns out to be a "proverbial lemon," just as Captain Picard feared. While the Alpha Quadrant side of the wormhole seems stable, the other end moves locations. When Lt. Commander Data (Brent Spiner) and Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton) travel through the wormhole to investigate, they end up in the Delta Quadrant, not the Gamma Quadrant. They determine that the Alpha Quadrant side of the wormhole will eventually become unstable as well, rendering the wormhole basically useless.

Star Trek: TNG's "The Price" Also Features A Ship That Gets Lost In The Delta Quadrant

Star trek: voyager season 3, episode 5, "false profits" serves as a sequel to "the price.".

When Data and Geordi take a shuttle into the wormhole, they offer to share any information they find with the other delegates. The Ferengi, however, insist on investigating for themselves, and Ferengi officers Arridor (Dan Shor) and Kol (J.R. Quinonez) take their own shuttle into the wormhole. Data and Geordi soon detect strange readings, and they urge the Ferengi to return with them back to the Alpha Quadrant. The Ferengi refuse to listen and find themselves stranded in the Delta Quadrant when the wormhole moves to a new location.

The USS Voyager will find itself in a similar predicament in the premiere of Star Trek: Voyager , when the powerful Caretaker sends the ship to the Delta Quadrant. Later, in Voyager's "False Profits," Voyager encounters Ferengi officers Arridor and Kol (Leslie Jordan), who have declared themselves gods on a primitive planet. Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) and her crew stop the Ferengi, and Arridor and Kol travel back through the unstable wormhole to the Alpha Quadrant. It will take Voyager a few more years to find its way home, but "False Profits" serves as a nice callback to Star Trek: The Next Generation .
