Travel money cards with the lowest fees

We look at seven travel money cards from the big banks and airlines..

travel money card next to model plane

Prepaid travel money cards are offered by major banks, airlines and foreign exchange retailers like Travelex. Before travelling overseas, you load money into the card account, which locks in the exchange rate for foreign currencies at that time.

You can then use the card for purchases and cash withdrawals just like a debit or credit card, usually wherever Visa and Mastercard are accepted.

You can reload money on-the-go via an app or website, and if the card is lost or stolen, it can be replaced (usually at no cost to you).

Prepaid travel money cards also give you assurance that you're not handing the details of your everyday banking account to merchants you're not familiar with, and they provide easy access to cash when you want some, says Peter Marshall, head of research at money comparison website Mozo .

CHOICE tip: Travel money cards are best for longer trips. They're usually not worth your while if you're only taking a short trip, as some have closure, cash out and inactivity fees.

Travel money card fees

A major difference between prepaid travel cards and debit or credit cards is their fees. Some costs aren't immediately apparent, such as hefty margins built into the exchange rates.

And although fees have come down since we looked at these cards two years ago, you still need to watch out for:

  • fees to load the card – either a percentage of the total or a flat fee
  • ATM withdrawal fees
  • a cross currency fee or margin when you use the card in a currency you haven't preloaded
  • further fees if you close the account or haven't used the card for a period of time.

Travel money card tips

  • Make sure the card allows the currencies you'll need, and also consider stopovers. For example, the South African rand is only supported by the Westpac card.
  • Try to load your card with the right currencies and amounts on days with good exchange rates.
  • Make sure you know how to reload your card if you run out of funds while overseas.
  • It may be more convenient to choose a card that has an app that can be linked to your bank account.
  • Avoid loading more money than you'll need as there may be fees and exchange rate margins to get the unused money back.
  • Remember to cancel the card once you're finished your trip, especially if it has inactivity fees.
  • Be mindful that you still may need a credit card, as travel money cards may not be accepted as security for hotels and car rental agencies.

Get the best Australian dollar exchange rate

Compare the latest Australian dollar exchange rates from the UK's best currency providers

Best Australian dollar exchange rate

While it's not considered to be a major world currency like euros or US dollars, the Australian dollar is still widely traded on the global financial markets especially in commodities like minerals and metals where Australia is a major exporter. Australia's economy is considered to be very stable and you'll find that dollars are widely stocked and available in all reputable bureau de change here in the UK.

If you're travelling to Australia, it's important to shop around and compare currency suppliers to maximise your chances of getting a good deal. We can help you to find the best Australian dollar exchange rate by comparing a wide range of UK travel money suppliers who have Australian dollars in stock and ready to order online now. Our comparisons automatically factor in all costs and commission, so all you need to do is tell us how much you want to spend and we'll show you the top suppliers who fit the bill.

Compare before you buy

Some of the best travel money deals are only available when you buy online. By using a comparison site, you're more likely to see the full range of deals on offer and get the best rate.

Order online

Always place your order online, even if you plan to collect your currency in person. Most supermarkets and high street currency suppliers offer better exchange rates if you order online beforehand.

Combine orders

If you're travelling with others, consider placing one large currency order instead of buying individually. Many currency suppliers offer enhanced rates that improve as you order more.

The best Australian dollar exchange rate right now is 1.8644 from Travel FX . This is based on a comparison of 16 currency suppliers and assumes you were buying £750 worth of Australian dollars for home delivery.

The best Australian dollar exchange rates are usually offered by online travel money companies who have lower operating costs than traditional 'bricks and mortar' stores, and can therefore offer better currency deals than their high street counterparts.

For supermarkets and companies who sell travel money online and on the high street, it's generally cheaper to place your order online and collect it from the store rather than turning up out of the blue and ordering over the counter. Many stores set their 'walk-in' exchange rates lower than their online rates because they can. By ordering online you're guaranteed to get the online rate and you can collect your order from the store as usual.

Australian dollar rate trend

Over the past 30 days, the Australian dollar rate is up 0.66% from 1.8644 on 4 Jun to 1.8767 today. This means one pound will buy more Australian dollars today than it would have a month ago. Right now, £750 is worth approximately $1,407.53 which is $9.23 more than you'd have got on 4 Jun.

These are the average Australian dollar rates taken from our panel of UK travel money providers at the end of each day. You can explore this further on our British pound to Australian dollar currency chart .

Timing is key if you want to maximise your Australian dollars, but the best time to buy will depend on the current market conditions and your personal travel plans.

If you have a fixed travel date, you should start to monitor the Australian dollar rates as soon as possible in the period leading up to your departure so that you've got time to buy when the rate is looking favourable. For example, if the Australian dollar rate has been steadily increasing over several weeks or months, it could be a good time to buy while the rate is high.

Some people prefer to buy half of their Australian dollars as soon as they've booked their holiday, and the remaining half just before they depart. This can be a good way of maximising your holiday money if the exchange rate continues to rise after you've bought, but will also help to minimise your losses if the rate drops.

You could also consider signing up to our newsletter and we'll email the latest rates to you each month.

If you need your Australian dollars sooner and don't have time to wait for the rates to improve, you can still save money by comparing rates from a range of different providers before you buy. Online travel money suppliers usually have better Australian dollar rates than high street exchanges, but supermarkets are a good compromise if you want to collect your currency in person and still get a decent rate. Just remember to buy or reserve your Australian dollars first before you collect them from the store so you benefit from the supplier's better online rate.

Australian dollar banknotes and coins

One Australian dollar ($) can be subdivded into 100 cents (c).

There are five denominations of Australian dollar banknotes in circulation: $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100; and six coin denominations: 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, $1 and $2.

As you'd expect, the Aussies have a plethora of nicknames for their currency. Most of the names refer to the bright colours of the banknotes; the pink 5-dollar note for example has at least 14 nicknames including 'fairy floss', 'pink snapper', 'prawn', 'piget' and 'rasher'.

In 2016, over 70,000 people signed a petition to officially rename the country's currency to 'dollarydoos' after the term was used in an iconic episode of The Simpsons. Sadly, the Reserve Bank of Australia declined the change, but you may still hear it used informally in conversations.

There's no evidence to suggest that you'll get a better deal if you buy your Australian dollars in Australia. While there may be better exchange rates available in some locations, your options for shopping around may be limited once you arrive, and there's no guarantee the exchange rates will be any better than they are in the UK.

Exchange rates aside, here are some other reasons to avoid buying your Australian dollars in Australia:

  • You may have to pay commission or other hidden fees to a currency exchange that you wouldn't have paid in the UK
  • Your bank may charge you a foreign transaction fee if you use it to buy Australian dollars when you're abroad
  • It can be harder to spot scammers and fraudulent currency exchanges in Australia

Lastly, it can be handy to have some cash on you when you arrive at your destination so you can pay for any immediate expenses like food, transport and tips. You don't want to be searching for the nearest currency exchange when you've just landed and you're desperate for a cup of tea - or a cocktail!

Tips for saving money while visiting Australia

Australia is generally considered to be an expensive holiday destination for British travellers due to the country's distance from the UK and the overall cost of living in Australia. Unsurprisingly, Sydney and Melbourne are ranked among the most expensive cities to visit, while Adelaide, Perth and Cairns can be more budget-friendly alternatives.

  • Research your accommodation: Branded hotels and resorts will always be more expensive than budget hotels and guest houses, especially in big cities and tourist hotspots. In rural areas, farm stays provide a unique opportunity to experience life on a working farm at a fraction of the cost of staying in a hotel. Or, if you're travelling on a shoestring, you'll find plenty of campgrounds and backpacker lodges dotted across the country which offer an inexpensive place to stay.
  • Use public transport: Busses and trams offer affordable travel around built-up areas, and ferries are part of the public transport system in waterfront cities such as Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. Train fares can be expensive if you're travelling long distances, but light rail options are available at more affordable prices, particularly on specific routes like the Gold Coast Light Rail in Queensland.
  • Plan your itinerary: There's no shortage of free attractions and activities in Australia. From Bondi Beach in Syndney to Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast; Australia is famous for its stunning beaches, all of which are free to use and enjoy. Or, if sunbathing isn't your thing, you can explore Australia's pristine natural landscapes and diverse wildlife at any of Australia's national parks and botanical gardens. Popular options include the Royal National Park in New South Wales, Daintree Rainforest in Queensland and Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney. In larger cities like Sydney and Melbourne, look out for free walking tours guided by local volunteers who share insights about the city's history, culture, and landmarks.
  • Find discount vouchers: Many tourist attractions and activities offer discount vouchers and codes that can save you money on entry fees and other perks. Look for vouchers online; sign up to newsletters and follow the social media accounts of places you're planning to visit.
  • Eat like a local: Cafes and bakeries offer reasonably-priced breakfast and lunch options such sandwiches and pastries if you're looking for a quick inexpensive meal. Many cafes and restaurants also offer lunchtime specials during the week where you can grab a discounted meal which usually includes a drink. Asian restaurants and takeout places, especially those serving Chinese, Thai, and Vietnamese can be budget-friendly options for an evening meal. Look for local, family-owned establishments for authentic flavors at lower prices, and "BYO" restaurants which allow you to bring your own alcohol to save money on dining out.
  • Take cash: Using cash will help you to stick to a budget more easily than paying by card, and you'll also avoid foreign transaction fees. If you do take a card with you, look out for ATMs that are affiliated with your UK bank to avoid ATM fees, and if you're asked whether you want to pay in pounds or Australian dollars - always choose Australian dollars. If you pay in pounds the merchant can set their own exchange rate which won't be in your favour.

Choosing the right payment method

Sending money to a company you might not have heard of before can be unsettling. We routinely check all the companies that feature in our comparisons to make sure they meet our strict listing criteria, but it's still worth knowing how your money is protected in the unlikely event a company goes bust and you don't receive your order.

Bank transfer

Your money is not protected if you pay by bank transfer. If the company goes bust and you've paid by bank transfer, it's unlikely you'll get your money back. For this reason, we recommend you pay by debit or credit card wherever possible because they offer more financial protection.

Debit cards are the most popular payment method and they offer some financial protection. If you pay by debit card and the company goes bust, you can instruct your bank to make a chargeback request to recover your money from the company's bank. This isn't a legal right, and a refund isn't guaranteed, but if you make a chargeback request your bank is obliged to try and recover your money.

Credit card

Credit cards offer full financial protection, and your money is protected by law under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. Section 75 states that your card issuer must refund you in full if you don't receive your order. Be aware that many credit cards charge a cash advance fee (typically around 3%) for buying currency, so you may have to weigh up the benefits of full financial protection with the extra cost of using a credit card.

What is the best travel card to use in Iceland?

Avatar

Jhezelyn Finder

Hi Nathalie,

Thank you for your comment.

While we do not have a specific page for travel money to Iceland, you may want to compare some alternative travel money that you can possibly use in Iceland.

Most of the tourists to Iceland use credit cards and it is recommended to bring a credit card with no foreign transaction fees. You can check a range of credit cards for overseas spending .

Please make sure though to read the eligibility criteria, features, and details of the card, as well as the relevant PDS/ T&Cs of the card before making a decision and consider whether the product is right for you.

Regards, Jhezelyn

Travelex vs Travel Money Oz vs S Money

Travelex vs Travel Money Oz

Travelex, Travel Money Oz and S Money all allow Australians to buy currency online. But which one is the cheapest?

While S Money has the best exchange rates, it does have a service fee. This means that to find the cheapest option, you need to look at the total cost of the currency including all the fees.

You can either go to each site and get a quote with each company or use an exchange rate comparison table that includes not just exchange rates, but any service fee too.

While price is important, it's not the only difference between these 3 currency exchange services. Here is a better look at each option:

travel money oz exchange rate

S Money is an online only currency exchange, so they don’t have any bricks and mortar stores. If you order online, you can pick up your currency in the CBD or have it delivered within 20k’s of the city for $19. They are the only money exchange that offer the same exchange rate seen on Google or XE but they do charge a service fee.

How S Money stacks up

S Money doesn't have any retail stores like Travelex or Travel Money Oz. While this helps them offer a better rate, it also means that you can't sell them currency, you can only buy currency. It also means that you have to order and pay for your currency online and can't pick up from the Airport like Travelex.

Online, all 3 companies offer 'click and collect. S Money and Travelex offer delivery unlike Travel Money Oz but with Travelex, you can pick up from Australia Post stores or the airport.

If you are in a hurry, S Money is quicker than Travelex and Travel Money Ozwith most orders delivered or ready for pick up the next day.

Travelex and Travel Money Oz have a much bigger range of currencies so if you are looking for Argentine Peso or Vietnamese Dong, they are a better option.

travel money oz exchange rate

Travelex is the biggest foreign exchange company in the Australia. They have the biggest range of currencies and collection locations but they aren't aways the cheapest.

Travelex have many locations across Australia. You can order online and collect your currency at a store, an Australia Post office or even the airport. They also offer delivery for online orders.

How Travelex stacks up

Much like Coles and Woolworths, Travelex and Travel Money Oz have a near duopoly in Australia when it comes to currency exchange. So their exchange rates, fees, services and overall offering are very similar.

Compared to S Money, their exchange rates aren't as good but they don't charge a service fee . They have a bigger range of currencies and collection locations including the airport.

travel money oz exchange rate

Travel Money Oz has dozens of outlets throughout every state in Australia. They are owned by the Flight Centre and have good, personal in-store service.

How Travel Money Oz stacks up

Travel Money Oz is very similar to Travelex. It has a large network of stores. They both allow you to order a large range of currencies online to collect in-store and both are very large reputable companies. Even their exchange rates are very similar. Online, the experience is almost identical.

Compared to S Money, the big difference is their stores. Travel Money Oz has a huge network of bricks and mortar stores where as S Money is purely online. This also means that S Money has better exchange rates and charge a service fee. S Money also offers delivery for online orders which Travel Money Oz is yet to roll out.

Travelex and Travel Money are incredibly similar in most aspects like exchange rates fees and services.

S Money is difference from both companies because they offer the real online exchange rate and don't charge an exchange rate margin. They do charge a service fee though.

All offer online services but S Money has no stores.

You can buy or sell a big range of currencies at Travel Money Oz and Travelex but at S Money you can only buy the most popular currencies like US dollars, euros, pounds and yen.

Finding the best travel money card for your trip

Going overseas, whether it's to Europe to experience amazing new cultures or just across the ditch for a ramble in the New Zealand wilderness, is always exciting. There are so many places out there to explore it's hard to know where to start! Once you've made the big decision of where to go, there's plenty more to be made. Of all the aspects of planning an overseas trip, organising your travel funds is possibly the most confusing and where you are most likely to occur unexpected fees.

But with a little bit of research and planning - and Mozo's expert advice - you can choose the right travel money option for you. If you are looking for information on transferring money overseas, this section isn’t for you. Instead head on over to our international money transfer page where you can compare rates and providers that offer money transfers from Australia.

Types of travel money cards

Prepaid travel cards .

A popular choice for many Aussies who are jetsetting overseas is purchasing a prepaid travel card, which as the name suggests is when you load foreign money onto the card before you jetset overseas. Prepaid travel cards have the advantage of being a convenient source of money when you're overseas as you can use them just like you use a credit or debit card - they also have credit card-like security usually coming with either Visa or MasterCard’s zero liability policy, which means you are protected against any fraudulent activity if your card is lost or stolen.

Plus you’ll also get the peace of mind of pin number access. Another advantage is you can also choose the best time to purchase foreign currencies to lock in a great currency exchange rate in the lead up to your trip. If you’re heading on a major globetrot to multiple countries, you’ll be happy to hear that many prepaid cards also allow you to load up to five different currencies onto the card.

The disadvantage of travel money cards is the associated purchase and reload fees can be quite high and it can be difficult and/or expensive to get back any 'unused' funds at the end of your trip. Also be mindful that there can be high penalties for cross currency purchases, so it’s wise to only pay using the currency you have loaded onto the card. In summary: they give you globe-trotting ease, but may come at a price. Mozo tip: Look for a prepaid travel card that has a wide overseas ATM network, so you can avoid the cost of high ATM withdrawal fees overseas.

For instance, users of Westpac’s Global Currency Card have fee free cash withdrawals at two million ATMs worldwide from any of Westpac's Global ATM Alliance partners.

Travel credit cards:

Credit cards are many people's' go-to answer for travel money, as an alternative of carrying around cash. When choosing a credit card to pack for your holiday there are three main types of travel friendly cards: Travel credit card : A popular choice for jetsetters is going for a credit card that is specifically designed for overseas travel, with a low or no currency conversion fee that is widely accepted around the world. While travel credit cards are great as you’ll avoid the slap of a high currency conversion fee, be mindful that credit cards aren’t made for ATM withdrawals as you’ll be charged the cash advance rate which is often over the 20% mark and to make matters worse the interest free period doesn’t apply to cash withdrawals. 0% purchase rate credit card : Another option is going for some plastic free of interest for an introductory period. While a 0% credit card deal can be a good choice if you want to shop up a storm overseas and pay back those purchases over a longer timeframe, make sure you can repay the balance in full before the honeymoon period comes to an end because many interest free cards revert to much higher rates. Rewards credit card : For those regular jetsetters, there’s also the option of racking up points fast with a rewards credit card, as many come with extra bonus points per $1 spent in overseas countries.

Plus to top things off many rewards cards are packed with complimentary features, such as travel insurance and concierge. But keep in mind, rewards credit cards are notorious for having high annual fees attached, so you’ll need to make sure the value of the rewards and freebies outweigh this cost. Before you decide to go down the travel credit card path, make sure you have a read of our credit card survival guide , which reveals the potential traps to avoid when using a credit card overseas.

Travel debit cards:

Also known as travel cash cards, a travel debit card is a way of taking your everyday bank account into the big wide world. They share many of the advantages of credit cards, in that they're pin secured and accepted in most places (since they're secured by the same companies e.g MasterCard or Visa), but you’re spending your own money not the banks. So with a debit card, you can avoid coming home to a massive amount of debt.

Many of the better travel card providers also offer fee-free ATM withdrawals around the world and no foreign currency conversion fees, compared to standard debit cards with a 2-3% rate. The only downsides of travel debit cards is that you generally won't earn the same rewards that credit cards can offer. To learn more about the difference between travel prepaid, credit and debit cards, read our travel money 101 guide here .

Kicking off your travel card comparison

With all of these alternatives, it's hard to know what's the best travel money option for you and your holiday. This is where Mozo comes to the rescue! You can compare all of your travel money card options right here on the one site in our prepaid travel card , travel credit card and travel debit card comparison sections - no need to waste time trawling to each provider’s website! Mozo lists all the fees and hidden costs, so you can make an accurate travel card comparison. We also have a great foreign exchange calculator which lets you see what rates the Australian currency converters are offering on four of the major currencies that are popular with Australian travellers - US dollars, British Pounds, Euros and New Zealand dollars. And all this information is presented in an easy to operate chart, so you can quickly know if today's the day you should exchange your mighty Australian dollars for another currency.

Mozo’s top travel money tips…

Let your card provider know you’re heading overseas.

Card providers are constantly on the lookout for any fraudulent activity. So if they suddenly see transactions on your account in an overseas country, they could decide to deactivate your card. To avoid being left without access to your cash, give your provider a quick buzz before you leave.

Take more than one travel money option with you.

You’ve probably heard the disaster travel stories where a traveller is left cashless due to a lost or stolen card. So make sure this isn’t you, by packing at least two travel money options with you. For instance, you could consider bringing a travel credit card with you for all those big purchases over the counter and a prepaid travel money card for your ATM withdrawals. This will give you the peace of mind that if you lost one of your cards, you’ll have a back up travel money card at hand.

Report any unauthorised transactions immediately.

While most travel money cards come with the protection of Visa, MasterCard or AMEX’s zero liability policy, to ensure you’re covered against any fraudulent activity you need to ensure you contact your card provider within a “reasonable period of time.”

Always pay in the local currency.

When you’re overseas and a merchant asks if you would like to pay in AUD, always say no because when you have the currency converted into your local currency you will generally be charged a higher currency conversion rate than your banks.

How to get the best exchange rate.

Let’s be honest, most of us forget to  organise our foreign exchange   until it’s almost too late. It’s usually one of the last things we do, in between getting travel insurance, packing our bags and making sure our passport hasn’t expired.

But this could cost you in the long run. If you have to arrange your foreign currency in a rush, you’re going to be stuck with the exchange rate available then and there.

To be savvier with your savings the next time you head overseas, here are a few things you can do to ensure you’re getting a great exchange rate for travel.

TMG_CBA - Best Exchange Rate Infographic_WB_770pxW_v4-01.jpg

How to get the best exchange rates

Step 1: Do Your Research

This is where you need a bit of time up your sleeve. Just as you took the time to research the best airfare deal for your trip, you should also wise up on where to find the best exchange rate for your foreign currency.

You’re probably aware that exchange rates change from day to day. Experienced travellers know to keep an eye on the morning news for updates on market movements (but keep in mind, the rate on the news is often not the rate available to the public). You can also check out historical rate charts to see if the currency you need has been in an upward or downward trend lately (FYI: this doesn’t mean the currency will sustain that trend – sorry, it’s not as predictable as that!).

If you don’t have time to research exchange rates all day, consider signing up for currency alerts . Designed to keep you in the loop, these alerts allow you choose a currency and your desired exchange rate. Once the currency hits your target exchange rate, we’ll send you an email to let you know.

Step 2: Shop Around

You should always do some online comparisons to check who offers the best deal, and it can’t hurt to call around the banks and foreign exchange businesses to enquire about the current exchange rate. Remember to ask for the total rate you’ll be charged, and not just the exchange rate. Many foreign currency retailers (including banks) display their rate of exchange, but then sneakily add on a commission fee. This means you end up paying more than you thought.

When shopping around, make sure you compare apples with apples – i.e. total exchange rate versus total exchange rate (including any fees). At Travel Money Nz, there are no fees or commissions charged on cash or EFTPOS foreign exchange transactions, so the rate on the board is the rate you’ll get.

Step 3: Avoid Last Minute Airport Exchange Transactions

Airport (1).jpg.

airport

Don’t be that person at the airport running around in a panic trying to find a foreign exchange counter. One of the easiest ways to get a great exchange rate on your travel money is to avoid changing your money at the airport. But yes, this does mean you need to be a little organised and arrange your currency exchange in advance and not leave it to the last minute.

If you’re tempted to exchange your foreign currency at the airport, remember that convenience comes at a cost.

Step 4: Lock In Your Rate With A Travel Money Card

One of the benefits of using a  pre-paid travel money card  is having the ability to lock in that day’s exchange rate when you load your card*. For example, if you load USD onto your card when the exchange rate works in your favour, it saves that total amount for future spending. Not a bad deal, right?

Using just an ordinary bank card means that on the day you spend or withdraw money, you’ll be charged at that day’s rate. Topping up your pre-paid travel money card in advance of your holiday is a great way to manage the risk of rates going down.

Step 5: Take Advantage Of Our Best Price Guarantee

If you find an overall exchange price that’s better than the rate on offer at Travel Money Oz, we guarantee to beat that price. Some terms and conditions apply to this offer, so  check them out on our website.

Bonus: Buy Online

We order our pizzas, groceries and fashion products online, so why not do the same with your travel money? You can often find a great exchange rate on the interwebs, and you don’t even need to worry about when the shops will be open. Simply order from the comfort of your own home and your cash will be delivered safely to a nearby store for you to pick up.

When comparing rates online, be careful to dodge any delivery fees. At Travel Money Oz, you can pick your foreign currency up from any of our stores (3 to 5 business days after you place your order ) and you won’t be charged any delivery fees for your transaction.

Foreign currency can be confusing, and spending your money is far more exciting than actually getting it organised in the first place. But with a little bit of homework and forward-thinking, there are some pretty easy ways you can make sure you get the best exchange rate, leaving you with more cash to splash!

*Lock in your exchange rates mean the exchange rate is locked in for the initial load only. The exchange rates for subsequent reloads will be set at the prevailing exchange rate at the time of the transaction.

Traveled the world in 2023 using my travel money Oz bank card. Went to 29 countries and 44 destinations and the card never let me down.So easy to use and could also pull out cash at ATMs if needed. Went to Fiji and Thailand couple months after the world trip and the card worked like a charm in their countries. Although, Thailand most times wanted cash than using a bank card when purchasing items which was ok cause I always took a couple bucks on me just incase I lost the card.Easy to top up funds also from different accounts using money travel Oz phone app. Furthermore, the money travel Oz card automatically converts the currency in each country which made it so simple to use than having a bag full of different currencies.

It was great to be able to order the currency on line and then go and pick it up. No waiting in line was the best part because there's usually quite a lengthy wait where I get the currency from

Poor customer service rendered card useless

I got this 2 days before departing Aust for NZ. I went to register online, but it wouldn't accept my details. Phoned and spoke to someone who confirmed my email address had been entered incorrectly by the kiosk person. It was supposed to be updated within 48-hours, but was not resolved by the time I departed. I tried to contact the company whilst overseas, but with no luck. I've not been able to top up the card from my bank account, so now paying endless conversion fees from my bank card (which I thankfully brought with me).

Conversion rate is not bad and at par with some of the other exchanges. Turn around time is also not bad. One of the notes was not in a good state that I discovered only after reaching home however they said once the notes are given it’s done and there is no scope to fix it. The store person could be little more engaging for a better customer experience.

Hi Ashok, we're so sorry to hear about your experience, and we'd love to discuss it some more, do you mind emailing us at [email protected] so that we can learn how to do better for next time? We'd very much appreciate it!

Fantastic Experience

This was one of the smoothest, friendly and quick money conversion experiences I have ever had. I did go to the kiosk not long after it opened in the morning which meant I was the first customer. Saying that the wonderful agent who assisted me was fabulous. They were efficient, friendly and also very knowledgeable about the currency and country I was going to. By the end of the experience I was even more super excited about my trip.

When I tried to purchase USD online

When I tried to purchase USD online, have problems with the identity verification, after drivers licence/passport check, there's only Electoral roll option. However after sending through inquiry, they matched the exchange rate at the store, which is great. Hope Travel Money Oz will upgrade their identity verification process.

Hi Yuin, it's quite unfortunate timing for you, as we did just introduce a new verification method to our online ordering system just today! We're glad you were able to be looked after instore regardless, and we hope next time you try to order online you have a little more success with our new addition!

Michelle helped me to get the best.

Michelle helped me to get the best exchange rate in Midland Gate Shopping Centre. I really appreciate her assistance. Thank you

Good customer service

I called every day the Parramatta branch to check on the Japanese yen rate for my trip to Japan. When I decided to drop by the branch, the staff recognised my name and gave me a good rate on the Yen so I rang my family members who are going with me to Japan and they also asked me to buy the Yen for them.

Date of experience : June 13, 2024

Hi Julie, we're so happy to hear we were able to get you, and your family, sorted with your Yen! If there is anything we can do to bump your review up to 5 stars for next time, feel free to email us at [email protected], we'd love the chance to improve!

Gotta be the place to get currency. The rates are really competative, I always get the best rates here at Bondi Beach. Jon is the guy to go to. Very proffesional, efficient and always cheerful. I wouldn't go anywhere else

Great to see the option of currency exchange at Flight Centre....book a flight and buy foreign currency. The exchange rate is usually competitive and if you are a return customer will usually be looked after.

Hi Glenda, we're so happy to hear you were able to get sorted with flights and cash at the same time! If there was anything we could do to raise your review up to 5 stars for next time, feel free to email us at [email protected] and let us know!

Costa Cruise

Hi. My experience with travel money oz was was great except I wasn't told that it doesn't work on cruises. That caused me great distress. I had to wait for a shore excursion to withdraw cash which cost me extra in fees. I could only get 500 euro out each transaction. If I had of known this I would have bought more cash and had less on the card. Otherwise it worked well. Kind regards Janine

Date of experience : June 15, 2024

Hi Janine, we truly are so sorry to hear our team didn't inform you of this, and we'll be sure to work with them to inform future customers better. We're glad other than this you had a fantastic trip, and we hope you can give us another chance in future!

Simple, easy

Simple, quick, straightforward purchase on some $SN. Definite improvement on the days gone by of the trials of getting travelers cheques

Very pleased with transaction- rate was good and time to pick up from entering the online order was phenomenal! - around 15 minutes! I had tried previously at another exchange and they gave a very poor rate for cash conversion and Travelex wanted a week to prepare the order which was far too long. Easy pick up - just showed driving licence. Highly recommend

Hi David, we're so happy to hear you enjoyed our same day FX Click and Collect system, (world first by the way!), and we were able to be the best option for your needs! We hope you enjoy every minute of your travels, and we can't wait to hear all about it!

Exceptionally fast service.

My main reason to use Travel Money Oz was the fact that the currencies (3 of them) were ready within minutes of me putting in the order. Whereas the other currency exchange agency in the area needed several days to get it ready.

Date of experience : June 19, 2024
