  • Have all the necessary documents with you.
  • Are ready for the interview itself, which will take only about 3 to 5 minutes.

NOTE: Usually, the interviews questions will focus on the purpose of your travel (w hy do you want to go to the US? ), your job ( what do you do? ), and your earning capacity ( how much do you make? ). So as long as you can answer these questions, the interview should be fine. However, answering these questions properly may not guarantee you getting a US visa as it is still subject to approval by the embassy.

HOW CAN I RENEW MY US VISA FROM DUBAI?

If your US visa expired less than four years ago, you can renew it in Dubai. Ideally, you should start the renewal process three months before the visa expires so that you have enough time for renewals. The process for the renewal is similar to applying for a new tourist visa (filling out the D-160 form and submitting it at the consulate).

Individuals with US visas that expired within the last four years will be able to request for an interview waiver, according to US embassy officials. “Anyone who has a visa that expired within the last four years will be able to renew by mail and generally won’t need to come in for an interview,” said Jonathan Webster, Consul General, US Embassy Abu Dhabi.

Previously, only individuals who had a visa that expired within the past 12 months were able to renew by mail. Speaking to Khaleej Times at the US Embassy in Abu Dhabi, Webster said this will be helpful to those who have a travel history to the US.

“We hope that will really benefit regular travelers to the United States and business travelers who may frequently visit,” he said. “We then work to process those visas within a matter of weeks.”

First time tourists

Webster also confirmed that first time tourist visa applicants can expect to get appointments in August 2023. “The wait time may be substantial, even up to one year,” he said. “We already have appointments filling up in August 2023. However, we urge everyone to check regularly because often there are openings much sooner due to cancellations or rescheduling. The visa application website is really the best friend for anyone looking to get a visa.”

Several travel agents speaking to Khaleej Times also confirmed that they have been unable to get US visa appointments for their clients before August next year.

The US mission is working on reducing the delays and clearing the backlog. “Just like other commercial establishments, we were impacted during the pandemic,” said Webster. “In terms of staff, we struggled to fill some of our positions for some time. But we are returning to full levels of staffing, and we are hoping to process at least 100,000 nonimmigrant visas by the end of this year in between our consulate in Dubai and embassy in Abu Dhabi. This would be at par with our pre-pandemic levels.”

Fast track services

Those looking to travel to the USA urgently for medical reasons will be given the option to request fast-track services. “We are really proud of our role in facilitating medical travel and healthcare visits at US hospitals,” said Webster.

Additionally, students looking to study in the US and those who have to attend important business meetings will be given expedited services.

The one word of caution that Webster has for tourists looking for a visa is to apply early. “We often hear from people who submit their application just a few days before their travel plans,” he said. “It is hard to let them know it won’t happen. So if people can plan ahead and schedule early, that is the best bet. Also, we encourage people to check if they meet the requirements of expedited travel and if they do so, to apply for it.”

In addition to issuing tourist visas, the embassy also offers a wide range of services to US citizens and offers immigrant visas to the US. These services are functioning at full level of capacity.

However, if your visa has expired more than 4 years, you will need to apply for a new visa.

When to Renew US Visa?

It is recommended to renew your US visa at least three months before its expiry. This will allow enough time for the visa processing and also ensure that you do not overstay your visa. Overstaying a visa can result in serious consequences, including being barred from entering the US in the future.

How to Apply for US Visa Renewal

To apply for a US visa renewal, you need to follow these steps:

Step 1: Fill out the DS-160 form online

The first step in the US visa renewal process is to fill out the DS-160 form online. This form is available on the US Embassy website. You will also need to answer questions about your travel history, employment, and purpose of travel.

Step 2: Pay the visa fee

After filling out the DS-160 form, you will need to pay the visa fee. The visa fee varies depending on the type of visa you are applying for. You can pay this fee online. You will need to provide the receipt number for the visa fee payment when scheduling your visa appointment.

You will need to bring a passport-sized photograph taken within the last six months. The size of the photograph would be 5 * 5 cm. – facing forward, white background, no headwear for men, for women hairline & jaw line must be visible, no glasses, and no computer alterations (no “airbrushing”).

5. Courier – in receipt

You would need your courier-authorized letter to be placed inside the envelope and outside the envelope

6. Any other supporting documents related to your visa application

You may be required to bring additional documents depending on the purpose of your trip to the US. For example, if you are attending a conference, you may need to bring a letter of invitation from the conference organizers.

Step-by-Step Process to Renew US Visa from UAE

The first step in the US visa renewal process is to fill out the DS-160 form online. This form is available on the US Embassy website. You will need to provide your personal information, travel history, employment details, and the purpose of your travel. Make sure to double-check all the information provided before submitting the form.

Once you have completed the DS-160 form, you will need to pay the visa fee. The fee can be paid online using a credit or debit card or in person at a designated bank. After payment, you will receive a receipt number that you will need to schedule your visa appointment.

Step 3: Drop down your documents at the Empost Courier

After paying the visa fee, you would receive a courier receipt, with the help of which you may drop the passport at the concerned courier.

Step 4: Wait for your visa processing

After dropping the passport, your visa application will be sent for processing. The processing time varies depending on the type of visa and other factors. You can track the status of your application online using the visa application tracking number provided during the appointment.

Step 6: Collect your passport and visa

Once your visa application is approved, you will receive an email or SMS notification to collect your passport and visa. You can do this in person at the designated location or by courier. Make sure to check your visa and passport details before leaving the embassy.

Renewing your US visa from the UAE is a straightforward process if you follow the steps outlined above. Make sure to check your eligibility, apply for renewal at least three months before your visa expires, and have all the required documents ready for your visa appointment. With the right preparation, you can successfully renew your US visa and continue your travels to the United States. If you have any doubts or questions don’t hesitate to contact us, Visa Guy is always there to help you.

How to Apply for US Visa From Dubai?

Some nationals whose countries are listed with US Visa Waiver Program (VWP) are not required to apply for a visa if their travel plan is of less than 90 days. Others have to meet the requirements for a US tourist visa. This article will guide you on how to get a US Visa in Dubai.

How to Get a US Visa in Dubai

Check what type of US visa you need

Residents of Dubai seeking visas to the United States must choose from two main visa categories:

  • temporary nonimmigrant visa
  • Permanent immigrant visas

Each category contains subcategories based on your intended purpose for travelling to the US. It is crucial to select the appropriate visa type for your situation, as applying for the wrong visa will lead to rejection. The entire process for obtaining a US visa in Dubai depends on which type you need.

Check where you need to apply in Dubai

Those seeking a US visa from the UAE must present their application at either the American Embassy /the Consulate General situated in Dubai. Individuals residing in Dubai itself will be required to apply at the US Consulate General there.

Some facts about US visitor or tourist visa

A US visa can be obtained for several purposes such as employment, medical treatment, family visit and functions, special events, or for tourism. If your intention of travel is tourism, pleasure visit, or vacation, then you have to apply for a B2 visa. The B2 visa will allow you to visit the country as a tourist. It will not be valid for employment or educational purpose. You can stay in the US for a maximum of six months with this visa. It is also eligible for an extension of six months subject to approval. Note that the granting of a tourist visa will solely rest on the US Embassy in Dubai, and allowing an entry to the city with the immigration authorities at the airport.

Documents Required for US Tourist Visa from Dubai

These are the important documents for US tourist visa for Dubai residents.

  • Passport with 6 months validity.
  • Copy of return flight ticket.
  • Payment receipt of the visa.
  • Accommodation Booking copy.
  • Bank statements of the last 6 months.
  • NOC from company (business purpose).
  • Salary Certificate.
  • A copy of trade license if an investor.
  • Visa copy of UAE resident.
  • Education proof certificates.
  • Monthly income statement.
  • Details of appointment.

Steps to get a US visa in Dubai

1. get a latest photograph.

You have to be ready with a recent digital photograph when applying for a US tourist visa . Visit a nearest photo studio and get yourself clicked. But before that, know the following requirements necessary to meet:

• Shape: The shape of the digital photograph has to square • Color: Your image must be in color with white background • Dimension: The digital image has to be of 600 pixels x 600 pixels in dimension minimum. The      maximum dimension can go up to 1200 pixels by 1200 pixels • Format: The image must be in JPEG format • File size: The file should be too heavy to unload and print. It must be less than or equal to 240 kilobytes

2: Fill and submit DS-160 application form

Form DS-160 is an online visa application to be filled by non-immigrants applying for a tourist visa. It is common for all the citizens worldwide. The form has to be filled by yourself only. When taking help of someone for completing the form, you still have to electronically sign by clicking the tab “Sign Application.”

Get your digital photograph file, passport details, family details, address you will be staying at US, name of the relatives in US, if any, and address of the consulate you will be appearing for an interview with you when filling the online visa application. All the information provided by you has to be complete and true and try to attend all the fields. Upload the digital photograph, and save the application before clicking on the “SUBMIT” button.

3: Pay the visa application fee

A few branches of the National Bank of Abu Dhabi are authorized by the Consulate General of the United States to collect payment for the visa application fee. For applicants applying from Dubai, the US Consulate in Dubai has appointed a few agencies to collect the visa payment. At the time of payment, you have to present your passport at the bank you are making the payment to. The application form should be accompanied with both the copies (pink and blue) of the payment receipt.

4: Schedule an interview appointment

All UAE citizens are required to make an online visa appointment with the consular officer. Each applicant, whether minor or major, must have his or her visa appointment before appearing for an interview. Children below 14 years of age don’t have to appear for the interview. Their parents can appear on their behalf.

5: Attend the visa interview as per scheduled

Reach at the designated U.S. Consulate in time. Once your application documents are loaded into the computer system, a number will be provided to you. After that you will have to go for fingerprinting and wait for the interview until your number is called. The interview will last for 5 minutes maximum in which you have to answer the questions of the Consular Officer. Based on your interview and verification of all the supporting documents, you will be informed if your application is approved, refused, or pending.

Though these steps to get a US visa in Dubai seems quite easy, in reality, it is quite opposite. So, better approach an experienced visa consultant in Dubai who can guarantee any types of visa with any hassle.

National Visa Center

What is the national visa center and how does it help with immigrating to the u.s..

After the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) approves your request to immigrate to the U.S., USCIS sends your petition to the National Visa Center (NVC). NVC will request the immigrant visa application fee and all documents. NVC will hold your petition and all documentation until your immigrant visa interview can be scheduled at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

What happens after USCIS sends my petition to the NVC?

If you are immigrating to be with close family (spouse, child or parent of a U.S. citizen), NVC will contact you to proceed immediately. If you are immigrating for work or other family-based relationships, the process may not start immediately. The date you filed your immigrant visa petition is called the Priority Date and you will need to check the  Visa Bulletin . If the Priority Date matches or will soon match the most recent date allowed (the Cut-Off date), the NVC will request the immigrant visa application fee and all documents. NVC will hold your petition and all documentation until your immigrant visa interview can be scheduled at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate.  NVC will notify you if your Priority Date does not match yet the Cut-off Date. NVC will contact you once they start processing your case.

How do I know if my Priority Date matches or will match soon the Cut-off Date? When will my case start processing?

If your application date (Priority Date) matches or will soon match the Cut-off Date, the NVC will start working on your petition. NVC will notify you once your petition is ready or will soon start processing. For more information on the Cut-off Dates, please visit the  Visa Bulletin , which is updated monthly.

How do I find out my application date called a Priority Date?

It’s fairly easy….

Thinking of visiting Dubai, but you’re not sure how to get a tourist visa? Perhaps you already live in this gorgeous city and want to share it with family and friends, but aren’t sure how to go about securing the ever-important visa. For some it’s as easy as showing up at the airport, for others, there is a process that needs to be followed.

Here is everything you need to know about getting a tourist visa for Dubai.

No visa required

Citizens of the GCC areas do not require any sort of visa to enter Dubai. You simply need to provide your passport or your national ID at the point of entry and you will be granted entrance.

Visa on arrival

If you fall into this category, you’re in luck because there are certain countries that can simply arrive at Dubai International Airport and receive a tourist visa, on arrival.

There are a total of 50 countries that receive visas on arrival. Some include The United Kingdom (UK), The United States of America (USA), and countries that are part of the EU. For some countries you will be eligible for a 30-day visa, and for others a 90-day visa, with the possibility of extension.

Indian citizens who are holders of tourist visas from the USA, green cards, or have a residence visa in the UK or EU will also receive a visa on arrival, for 14 days, provided that the green card and residence visas have been valid for more than six months.

If you are a Mexican passport holder, you will be granted a multiple-entry visa on arrival. Your visa is valid for up to 180 days and is valid for six months from the date that the visa has been issued.

The list of countries that are able to attain a tourist visa on arrival in Dubai or the UAE may change from time to time and so you can easily see if you are eligible for a tourist visa on arrival by following the steps here .

Pre-arranged visa

When you do not fall under the above categories that means you need to apply for a tourist visa before you enter Dubai. This can be done in a number of ways.

You can easily apply directly through certain airlines including FlyDubai and Emirates . Alternatively, you can organise a tourist visa through licensed travel agents, tour operators and the hotel you will be staying at.

It is important to note that you cannot apply for a tourist visa through the UAE Embassy, one of the organisers mentioned above will apply for your visa on your behalf through the visa-issuing authorities here in Dubai.
