Two Nation Tour

The Uncle Sam Two Nation Tour has long been a favorite of visitors to the Thousand Islands Region. On this scenic tour you will pass by many island mansions owned or visited by some of the most famous names in American history, learning many interesting facts and legends along the way.

For over a hundred years the Thousand Islands area has been a popular vacation retreat for some of the wealthiest and most influential people in North America. You’ll recognize many names, like Kellogg (of breakfast cereal fame), Abraham & Strauss (who married twin sisters and built twin mansions here, and who died together in the sinking of the Titanic), John Jacob Astor, George Pullman (the inventor of the Pullman railroad car), and Ulysses S. Grant, President of the United States, Thomas E. Dewey, Governor of New York, to name just a few.

1000 islands home

I have nothing but fond memories of the many times I toured the Thousand Islands on Uncle Sam, dating from childhood to becoming ancient. Don’t leave the 1000 Islands without riding Uncle Sam. Their dinner cruise is especially wonderful.

' src=

We come from Lordstown, Ohio almost every year and go the two nation tour. The trip on Uncle Sam Boat Tour is wonderful and we are going to do it again in Oct 2014.

My wife and I visited Alex Bay and really enjoyed the 2 Nation Tour. With the stop at Boldt Castle, we spent 3-4 hours on the river and it was a remarkable day. A really unique experience. Thanks,

A trip to remember for a lifetime! I am from California and I have been on many boat tours throughout my 33 years, & I can honestly say the service Uncle Sam Boat Tours offers is exceptional. The crew was very professional and kind anytime we conversed with them or had a question, we had the pleasure of exploring The Singer Castle and the breathtaking Alexandria Bay Community/waterfront homes, from the tour we learned what the day-to-day life for this unique community looks like, my family and myself where speechless about the architecture & the history of this community. Thank you US Boat Tours for the remarkable experience that my family & I will look back on in the future. Kind Regards, Sindy Sis

If in the 1000 Island region, the Uncle Sam's Boat Tours is a must do. That along with a stop at Boldt Castle (separate review) makes for a perfect way to enjoy 1000 Island. They have many different tours available. We chose the 2 1/4 hour 2 Nation Tour. After a fun and informative tour of the 1000 island area, it makes a stop at Boldt Castle, where you can get off and tour the castle. Most of their tour boats stop here, and you can board any of them for your trip back to shore. The boat that we were on had 3 decks. We spent some time on the middle deck while it was sprinkling, but them moved to the top deck to enjoy most of the tour. Some of the homes and islands toured are just breathtaking. Just a spectacular view all around. There was a small bar with limited reasonable priced drink and limited snacks. You also could get a buffet lunch but we chose to see beforehand and just enjoy the cruise. Our trip back from Boldt was quick. Just in time too as a bad storm was approaching and started just as we got off the boat. Definitely recommend. 2023-71

This tour company has been around for almost 100 years. They are the official boat tour for the Thousand Islands - a collection of over 1,000 islands that are filled with trees, rocks, houses, and even castles. The Thousand Islands themselves are beautiful and are definitely worth a visit. As for Uncle Sam Boat Tours, I thought it was decent but nothing too exciting. The boats themselves are fairly old and the tour guide did not talk too much and was a bit boring. It is better to just sit back and enjoy the views. I recommend the 2 Nations Tour, which is their most popular tour and passes islands on both American and Canadian sides.

alexandria bay tour

Very efficient and enjoyable cruise on the St. Lawrence River. The boat is simple yet comfortable. The host delivered an informative and entertaining narration of what we saw on the two nations tour. I came away knowing a lot more about the homes, history and background behind what makes the Thousand Islands famous. Ticket price included a drop off/pick up at the Boldt Castle.

alexandria bay tour

After arriving in the Alexandria Bay Area, we checked out some tour boats to see which one sounded the best. Our hotel recommended Uncle Sam's so that's where we went. We chose the 2 1/2 hour tour with a stop at Boldt Castle. We could purchase the Castle tickets at the same time. The cruise was excellent, River was calm, the tour guide was very good. She pointed out all the different islands and explained a lot about things like.. how do they get electricity, water etc. I highly recommend them!

Photo of Katie M.

Now I have been going on Uncle Sam tours ever since I was little. The thousand islands were a favorite vacation spot for my family. This was by far the worst tour I had been on. We opted to take the two nation tour. I have been on this tour dozen of times thru my lifetime. We were taking our son for the first time and he loves history and learning so we thought this was perfect. What I expected were facts about the area. Stories of long time ago, what people came before us, who lived on the islands, things that were invented from the area etc. i expect to walk away with more knowledge of what makes the area unique. what we got was a brief story of millionaires row a few random facts.. three breaks of the speaker.. one five min break, one fifteen and another 10. So basically we had a few facts and brushed over history and boat ride. Personally it felt like a waste of money. We would have been better off with the one hour tour.

Dependable, fast trip to Boldt castle and we were able to buy tickets for the castle at the same time. They circle through ever 30 minutes which is nice, no long waits to go back to Alex bay. Ride from Boldt was better on a bigger boat but the ride there we took the very first trip out that morning. Bathroom was closed on the ride back but we didn't do any boat tours so no biggie.

We enjoyed our two hour Two Nations boat tour to Boldt Castle. They offer drinks, popcorn, and hot pretzels. Our boat had three floors with ample seating. The tour guide gave a great tour and said she was from the area which was nice. The boat ride was smooth. We saw a cool speed boat poker run while onboard. Toilets are available on the boat. We didn't need to buy tickets ahead of time. You can take any Uncle Sam Boat back to Alexandria Bay when you're done at the castle.

We were in town for a couple of days and went on their "2 nations" tour which takes you through a good portion of the 1000 Islands area in both US & Canadian waters. Much of it is guided where details about the region and islands are explained, which was informative. The boats aren't new (at least not the ones we were on), but the staff was very friendly and helpful and they seem to cater to their clients. The onboard snack bar was very reasonably priced, even cheap, I would say. You can get a hot dog, pretzel, popcorn, soda, beer, or wine all at a value. They're departures seem like general times instead of hard and fast times. We also found that the email with directions stated that you "must" arrive 30 minutes ahead, but we only boarded a few minutes before our slightly late departure. It would have been nice to show up nearer the departure time, but perhaps when they are in their peak busy season they very well might need all 30 minutes to load up and depart. Either way it was a fun tour that we both enjoyed and thought was a reasonable price for the time spent on the water and tour details.

Day 1: Monday, May 13

Today we travel to the beautiful Alexandria Bay, New York. Lunch will be on your own at Salt City Market – a food hall and public market to show off hidden culinary gems of Syracuse, offering regional and international cuisines from talented and driven entrepreneurs.

This afternoon we visit Tibbets Lighthouse and Museum . Standing guard at confluence of St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario, this lighthouse has stood vigil since 1827. It features the only original working Fresnel lens in Lake Ontario. Listen to the forlorn cry of the last operating foghorn on the river and gaze at the beautiful scenery.

Upon arrival to Alexandria Bay, we will check into Riveredge Resort and have dinner next door at Riley’s by the River – the upbeat casual atmosphere and delicious menu mirror the personality of this town!

Day 2: Tuesday, May 14

We begin the day with breakfast at the hotel, then depart for a Two Nations Tour. The cruise takes a 22-mile journey through the international waters of America and Canada, giving you the best view of this truly unique geographical area shared by two nations, and you don’t even need a passport! This international tour offers close-up enjoyment of historic and scenic wonders in both the American and Canadian sections of the 1000 Islands.

During the cruise, we will stop to visit Boldt Castle . This 120-room Rhineland-style castle and yacht house was built at the turn of the 20th century. The millionaire proprietor of the famous Waldorf Astoria in NYC, George Boldt, built the castle as a display of love for his wife. Wander the halls and imagine what could have been if tragedy had not struck.

We will enjoy a boxed lunch on the cruise. Professional guides will share the colorful history of the magnificent homes built during the gilded age as well as biographical information about their owners, point out landmarks such as Devils Oven, Sunken Rock Lighthouse, the Canadian Span of the 1000 Islands Bridge System, and Tom Thumb Island, detail historic events that took place during the War of 1812 and much more.

Next, we will visit the Antique Boat Museum . The museum is the premiere freshwater boating museum in America. A tour here illuminates the exciting history of the region as their docents tell personal stories. Here, we will also enjoy a tour on La Duchesse – Built in 1903 for hotelier George Boldt, manager of New York City’s famed Waldorf-Astoria hotel, the houseboat has been in continuous use as an elegant summer residence ever since.

Dinner will be on your own this evening with plenty of options just steps from the water.

Day 3: Wednesday, May 15

Breakfast this morning will be at Riley’s by the River. After a scenic drive along the seaway, we arrive at Eisenhower Locks. Hundreds of ships from all over the world make thousands of transits through the St. Lawrence Seaway annually – there’s a chance we may see one! The observation deck at Seaways Visitors’ Center gives the perfect view to see a commercial vessel or cruise ship transit the lock. Guides will be available to answer questions and provide additional information.

Lunch will be on your own at Busters in Ogsdenburg, NY.

This afternoon we visit Frederick Remington Art Museum – This was the home of Frederic Remington, an American painted, illustrator, sculptor, and writer who specialized in depictions of the Old American West. This museum houses a comprehensive collection of original Remington paintings, sketches, and sculptures, as well as a broad array of personal effects and correspondence that serve to bring the artist and his vision to life.

Afterwards, we will stop at a local winery to enjoy the delicious wines this region creates.

Dinner tonight will be at Cavallario’s Steak and Seafood – a local favorite! It features American cuisine with an Italian flair behind a castle-style exterior.

Day 4: Thursday, May 16

Breakfast will be at Riley’s by the River before we depart for home.

On the way home we will stop at The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. The Museum tells visitors the story of baseball through its three-story timeline, with the majestic Plaque Gallery serving as a centerpiece. You can’t drive through Cooperstown without visiting!

Lunch will be on your own in Cooperstown.

Pressley, Haiti Caucus, Colleagues, Advocates Renew Calls for Federal Action to Stabilize Haiti, Address Growing Crisis on the Island

Lawmakers Continue Calls for Extending TPS for Haiti, Halting Deportations, Disrupting Arms Trafficking, Providing Humanitarian & Economic Assistance, and More

Press Conference (Twitter) | Photos (Dropbox)

WASHINGTON  – Haiti Caucus Co-Chairs Congresswomen Ayanna Pressley (MA-07), Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09) and Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (FL-20), along with Congresswoman Cori Bush (MO-01), Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (FL-24), and Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13), held a Capitol Hill press conference with colleagues and advocates to renew their calls for urgent federal action to address the growing crisis in Haiti. The press conference comes at a time when the humanitarian, political, economic, and security crises in Haiti are becoming increasingly dire.

The policies called for by the lawmakers and advocates include: extending and redesignating TPS for Haiti; halting all deportations to Haiti; disrupting arms trafficking to the island; providing urgent humanitarian relief; preventing the transfer of Haitian nationals to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; passing a new economic assistance package that creates jobs and rebuilds Haiti’s infrastructure; facilitating the establishment of a representative transitional government led by Haitian civil society; and more.

“Our Haitian siblings on the island and throughout the diaspora should know that we have not forgotten them and we will never stop fighting for the just and equitable future the Haitian people need and deserve,” said Congresswoman Pressley, Co-Chair of the House Haiti Caucus. “Congress and the Biden Administration have a moral obligation to take action to stabilize Haiti and to save lives, including by providing humanitarian and economic assistance, extending TPS for Haiti, halting deportations, supporting a democratic transition led by Haitian civil society, and more. If we truly believe Black lives matter, then that must include Haitian lives.” “Our nation owes a debt to Haiti. Repayment begins by helping ensure that a Haitian-led democracy rings true in their communities, in the United States, and across the globe. We must take every action necessary to secure a democratic transition led by Haiti’s civil society, and that includes providing vital humanitarian and economic aid, expediting visa processing, cracking down on illegal arms trafficking, and extending TPS and halting deportations. Congress has a responsibility to support Haitian stability and the safety of all its people, and it holds the power to deliver the progress our Haitian neighbors at home and abroad are counting on. In this dire moment where the future of our beloved Caribbean ally is at risk and millions of lives remain imperiled, inaction is inexcusable,” said Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke, Co-Chair of the House Haiti Caucus. “In the face of the crisis in Haiti, our moral compass and international duty compel us to step forward, not just to alleviate the immediate suffering of the Haitian people, but to address the systemic problems forcing Haitians to flee their homeland. The extension and re-designation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS), alongside an expedited parole program and an immediate halt to deportations, are critical first steps. But our responsibility does not end there. We must confront the root causes of migration by: (1) ensuring that Haitians can live safely and peacefully within their own borders; (2) taking a firm stand against the trafficking of firearms from places like Florida to Haiti; (3) holding those who perpetuate violence and instability accountable,” said Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus McCormick, Co-Chair of the House Haiti Caucus . “As a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I have a pulse on the challenges facing our allies around the world. Just as we have extended our support to them during their time of need, Haiti deserves the same treatment. The time for action is now – to protect lives, foster security, and promote stability where Haitians can thrive in their own country.” “To deport people back to Haiti is a cause and kiss of death,” said Congresswoman Frederica Wilson . “There is nothing in Haiti but suffering, so we have to say to the President of the United States, ‘Stop the deportation.’ Not only expand TPS but stop the deportation and support the new government that we are putting together in Haiti. This government is being supported by the international community, the United States government, and the Caribbean community; it is Haitian-led. We must fund them—fund them just as we do other countries. Fund them! Fund them just like you fund other countries.”

The lawmakers were joined by Guerline Jozef, Executive Director of Haitian Bridge Alliance, Patrice Lawrence, Executive Director of UndocuBlack Network, Mary Estimé-Irvin, Chairwoman of National Haitian American Elected Officials Network, Tessa Petit, Executive Director of Florida Immigrant Coalition, and impacted families and TPS recipients.

“It’s urgent for President Biden to re-designate and extend TPS for Haiti,” said Guerline Jozef, Co-Founder and Executive Director, Haitian Bridge Alliance . “Equally vital is for the United States Congress to pass an economic package supporting job creation and key infrastructure projects. Additionally, the Biden administration must immediately cease the deportation of Haitian nationals. Sending people to a country plagued by insecurity and humanitarian crises is  unconscionable. The disparate treatment of Black immigrants must come to an end!” “UndocuBlack Network calls on the Biden- Harris administration to end the cruelty against Haitians. It is cruel to deport Haitian nationals while arranging for evacuation of American nationals at the same time. Our ask is simple, honor the dignity of Haitian people. If Secretary Mayorkas leads by these values, he will release Haitians from detention, extend and redesignate TPS for Haiti and stop the deportations now. To be the change President Biden claimed to be, he must act differently from his predecessors especially as it relates to Black immigrants,” said Patrice Lawrence, Executive Director, UndocuBlack Network. “The painful reality of the Haitian people is complex and multi-layered.  However, the immediate steps that need to be taken can happen with the stroke of a pen. It is time for the Administration to redesignate and extend TPS for Haiti. It is also crucial that all deportation of Haitians be immediately halted,” said Tessa Petit, Executive Director, Florida Immigrant Coalition. “Haitians need security, justice, understanding and acceptance.  That will only be possible with the will from the administration to support Haiti by addressing its root causes, through a comprehensive humanitarian and economic support that will change the future of the Haitian people.” “An economic plan akin to the Marshall Plan is essential to aid Haiti, which is located less than 90 miles from our shores, in addition to humanitarian assistance and the reconsideration of TPS,” said Mary Estimé-Irvin, Chairwoman, National Haitian American Elected Officials Network . “Like Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan, Haiti is a sovereign nation that requires support.”

Footage from the press conference can be found here , and photos can be found here .

As Representative for the Massachusetts 7 th  Congressional District, Congresswoman Pressley serves as Co-Chair for the House Haiti Caucus and represents one of the largest Haitian diaspora communities in the country, with approximately 46,000 Haitians and Haitian-Americans living across the state and over half in the Boston metropolitan area. Additionally, Massachusetts is home to more than 4,700 Haitians with Temporary Protected Status.

LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming has hired former Cowboys basketball assistant Sundance Wicks away from Green Bay to fill its head coaching vacancy.

Wicks went 18-14 and staged a remarkable turnaround in his lone season at Green Bay after spending three years as a Wyoming assistant on Jeff Linder’s staff. Wicks will take over for Linder.

In announcing the Wicks hiring Sunday, Wyoming said Linder had resigned “to pursue other opportunities in college basketball.” ESPN has reported that Linder, who went 63-59 in four seasons at Wyoming, is close to a deal to become an assistant on Texas Tech coach Grant McCasland’s staff.

“You cannot put into words what it means for a kid from the country roads outside of Gillette to represent the state of Wyoming and the Cowboys as their new head basketball coach,” Wicks said in a statement.

In his only season at Green Bay, Wicks won the Joe B. Hall national coach of the year award that goes annually to the top rookie head coach in Division I basketball.

Wicks had inherited a Green Bay program that went 3-29 the year before his arrival. The 15-win improvement from 3-29 to 18-14 represented the ninth-biggest turnaround in NCAA Division I history.

“If there is one thing, I learned growing up in Wyoming, it’s that when you honor the brown and gold, you are honoring so much more than just the University of Wyoming,” Wicks said. “You are honoring every single hard hat that woke up before the sun to work the coal mines. It means paying your respects to the all the rough and rowdy ranchers that chose the Cowboy way and rode for the brand before it became a popular phrase.

“Honoring the brown and gold is the understanding that a tip of the cap, a steering wheel wave, a hard handshake or a big hug is how you lift your people up in support of a hard day’s work.”

Green Bay athletic director Josh Moon said the school already has begun a search for Wicks’ successor.

“We are so thankful and proud of the work Sundance did during his time in Green Bay,” Moon said in a statement. “He re-energized our program, university and this entire region, and we will be forever grateful for the mark he made on Phoenix basketball.”
