Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management in the Philippines

The Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM) is a four-year degree program in the Philippines that will train you in developing and implementing tourism campaigns, organizing and managing events, and following policies and standards related to investments, business regulations, procurement, and other miscellaneous procedures.

Right now, we’re not aware of any programs that would automatically qualify a graduate of any particular school for a position at Philippine Airlines. From what we have seen from job advertisements in the past, companies don’t require applicants to be a graduate of any particular course or school as long as they meet the company’s requirements. So far, we haven’t encountered any companies that specifically require applicants to be beautiful or look a certain way. Instead, what they usually require is that applicants look presentable at all times. We haven’t encountered any clause about complexion, either. The height requirement is usually strict, though, because height can affect the attendant’s ability to perform their job. Still, if being a flight attendant is your dream, you might want to search around for companies that have lower height requirements. Requirements sometimes vary depending on the company, so it might be worth taking a shot.

If you were referring to becoming a flight attendant, some companies do have specific preferences when it comes to physical appearances. For that, we suggest you check out their job advertisements to see what their usual requirements are.

If you were simply referring to enrolling in BS Tourism Management and pursuing the whole bunch of other jobs that it may lead you to, we believe that’s not really the case, especially if your skills, qualifications, and experiences are up to their standards.

Added information lang: sa kahit anong course ng PUP ay P12 lang per Unit and as far as I know walang maintaining grades ang Tourism. Hindi po ganun kahigpit sa requirements kaya po ako nakapasok xD (2nd year tourism student na po ako sa PUP) hehe.

Nope. It includes both minor and major subjects. You can get a copy of the curriculum from the CHED website; however, it only contains the list of the recommended subjects — not necessarily the actual subjects that the school you’ll be enrolling at will require you to take — so it’s best if you’ll ask the school directly.

We’re not really sure about the “maintaining grades” part, so we suggest you ask PUP directly so they can give you a more accurate and detailed reply.

Hi, im wondering if height and looks really matter when it comes to taking BSTM, my height is 5’0 and i hope im qualified taking BSTM.

That would depend on which particular job you intend to pursue after you graduate. As far as we know, employers that are looking for tourism officers and tour escorts are not very particular with height and appearance as long as you have the skills and qualifications. Flight attendants, however, are required to meet specific height requirements and possess certain physical attributes.

I just want to know, is clear vision also a requirement?

So far, we haven’t heard of any such particular requirement. We suggest you still contact the school you are thinking of enrolling at to be sure, though.

KAHALAGAHAN NG TURISMO – Sa paksang ito, ating tatalakayin kung ano nga ba ang kahalagahan ng turismo at ang mga halimbawa nito.

Ang turismo ay maraming positibong epekto para sa isang bansa, lalo na sa Pilipinas. Bilang isang arkipelago, ang Pilipinas ay mayaman sa mga kagandahang natural. Bukod dito, ang Pilipinas ay likas din sa kultural at tradisyunal na aspeto ng pamumuhay.

Dahil dito, maraming turista ang pumupunta sa ating bansa. Ang pagpasok ng turismo ay isa sa mga dahilan kung bakit lumaganap ang ating ekonomiya. Kapag nangyari ito, maraming tao o ang nabibigyan ng trabaho at nagkakaroon ng kultural na pakikihalubili sa mga dayuhan.

Kurseong Tourism And Travel Guide

The hill town of Kurseong in the heart of the hilly terrain of North Bengal has become a hot favorite among tourists. Adorned with a scatter of beautiful white orchids, surrounded by the Himalayan ranges, dominated by towering colonial buildings, schools and churches, stunning view points, museums and forests, Kurseong has much to tourism. It has an old world charm that is infectious. A stroll through the winding roads or a ride on the Darjeeling toy train that passes through Kurseong is rejuvenating and enthralling experience. How to Reach

By Air:  

A small hilly town that it is, Kurseong does not boast of an airport and has to depend on the Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri for air accessibility. The airport is located at a comfortable distance of 40 km which tourists can travel by cabs or buses. Both are available from near the airport. Public and private air carriers operate regular flights between Bagdogra, Kolkata and other major cities of the country.

By Rail:  

Kurseong does not have a rail head and has to depend on the New jalpaiguri Railway Station in Siliguri for rail connectivity. New Jalpaiguri is one of the most prominent railway junctions of North Bengal which accounts for its improved connectivity with Kolkata, neighboring towns and other cities of the country. Those traveling from outside Kolkata can travel by rail till Kolkata and then take a connecting train to New Jalpaiguri. The station is located 44 km from Kurseong and there are buses and cabs that transport people to the town.

Devoid of airport and railway station, Kurseong’s primary access with other towns and cities is via roads. There are well developed network of roads that help connect Kurseong with neighboring towns and cities like Kolkata, Kharagpur, Siliguri, Darjeeling etc. Jeeps, taxis and buses regularly ply between Kurseong and different destinations.

Getting Around:  

Buses, jeeps and taxis are easily available in Kurseong for sightseeing and for travelling to neighboring tourist destinations. Hotels and resorts often make arrangements for transport for the tourists. However, given the small picturesque town that it is, the best way to move around the place is by foot. Walking through the winding roads or forests, surrounded by scenic beauty all around can truly be an experience.

Weather and Best Time to Visit

Summer (March to May):

Summer lasts in Kurseong from March till May and is considered to be one of the finest times for visiting the beautiful hill town. The weather is pleasant and comfortable and the temperature ranges between 8°C and 20°C, which is perfect. It is never too hot which makes it one of the best places to visit during summers to escape the terrible and scorching heat of the plains. May is the hottest month for Kurseong but is nothing in comparison to what the rest of the state has to suffer during these months.

Monsoon (June to September):

Monsoon in Kurseong lasts for three months from June to September. Like most hill stations, monsoon is pretty severe in Kurseong. There are torrential rainfalls accompanied by frequent cloudbursts, landslide and mudslide. It is not only uncomfortable, in fact the landslides can pose threat to life and property. Tourists often get stranded on the roads. Incessant rains also make sightseeing difficult. Monsoon is the least recommended season for visiting Kurseong.

Winter (December to February):  

Winter is another lovely time to visit and explore Kurseong. As monsoon bids adieu, the mercury starts dipping steadily. It gets colder and chillier. The skies remain clear and cloudless; there are no rains and the cool mountain breeze helps heal souls. Exploring and sightseeing is an enjoyable experience during these months. Winter also coincides with some local festivals and allows tourists to get a flavor of local culture. Dasai and Makar Sankranti are celebrated with much fervor in the month of January.

Things to Do

Taking a Ride on Darjeeling Toy Train:  

Declared UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway popularly known as the Darjeeling toy train is the chief attraction in Kurseong. The train travels for 80 km and winds its way through Siliguri , Kurseong and Ghoom from New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling. It is a thrilling and fascinating journey as the tourists are treated to some amazing scenic beauty, hills of Darjeeling and plush green tea estates.

Stroll Through Tea Estates of Kurseong:

Like most hill stations of North Bengal, Kurseong too boasts of stunning sprawling tea estates. There are two tea gardens in Kurseong, Makaibari and Ambooti. Taking a stroll through the vast stretches of greenery can one of the best things one can do in the town. Tourists can get guided tours of the tea gardens and learn how tea leaves are grown, picked and processed. They can also visit the tea factories how tea goes through different processes to get different qualities of tea. Tea-tasting sessions can also be an interesting thing to do in Kurseong.

Taking a Tour of Dow Hill:

Dow Hill is one of the prime locations for tourists as there are a number of attractions here. There is the Dow Hill Park, previously known as the deer park. Over the years however their number has significantly dwindled and can be only found near the forest which covers a part of the hill. There is a Hill Museum housing species of flora and fauna; a rest house nestled in the lap of nature where tourists can stay with prior permission from the forest department of Kurseong. The hill also has two heritage boarding schools, the Dow Hill Girls School and Victoria Boys School. From here one can get an amazing few of the Himalayas and the valley below.

Water Rafting:  

Water rafting in Teesta has become quite popular among adventure lovers. The rough nature of the river with a series of rapids has made it an ideal destination for white water rafting. For over a decade now it has been drawing enthusiasts to take part in water rafting activities which are arranged and taken care of by private and government agencies. On an international scale, rafting in Teesta enjoys a grade IV rating.

Visiting the Viewpoints:

Viewpoints are elevated spots that offer a magnificent view of the surrounding landscape, the snow-capped peaks, the valleys and the plains. In Kurseong there are two celebrated viewpoints, Eagle Craig and Giddapahar viewpoints. Easily accessible, these viewpoints are must-visit tourist destinations. On a clear day the tourists are treated to some frame-worthy view of the mountains and gorgeous terrain.

Eating in Kurseong

A quaint till hill town that it is, Kurseong does not boast of any fine dining options or big restaurants unlike Darjeeling . The primary reason is that the town does not experience as much tourist footfall as its more celebrated counterpart. The Tibetan influence in their cuisine is too strong to ignore. The steaming hot Thukpa noodle soup and the steamed momos are delicious. There is a Tourist Lodge which is maintained by the West Bengal Tourism department which has a multi-cuisine restaurant offering good quality food. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates should be able to:

PO1:  Apply hospitality leadership and management skills which shall advocate respect for the family, community, Church, and the environment towards the achievement of quality living;

PO2:  Examine the hospitality industry’s multiculturally diverse heritage, issues, challenges, and opportunities through effective interpersonal and varied modes of communication, creating venues for changes and conflict resolutions;

PO3:  Exhibit technopreneurial decision-making skills in addressing the tourism and hospitality industry’s issues and development through the conduct of research and execution of business plans that reflect a high level of professionalism, and adherence to ethical and legal practice (PO3); and

PO4:  Demonstrate full understanding of the operations of a professional food and lodging business in accordance with guest expectations.

In addition, graduates of BS in Hospitality Management, Major in Hospitality Leadership should be able to perform a core set of competencies necessary to successfully lead and manage a hospitality organization that promotes culture and traditions (PO5-HL).

Pampamahalaang ministeryo ng Pilipinas para sa turismo From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ang Kagawaran ng Turismo (Ingles: Department of Tourism ), ang kagawarang tagapagpaganap ng pamahalaan ng Pilipinas na may tungkulin ukol sa alintuntunin ng industriyang panturismo sa Pilipinas at ang pagpapakilala sa Pilipinas bilang isang destinasyon.

Nagsimula bilang isang pansariling adhikain na ipakilala ang Pilipinas bilang isang pangunahing destinasyon sa paglalakbay, ang Samahan ng Turista at Paglalakbay ng Pilipinas ay nabuo noong 1950, at noong taong 1956, ang lupon ng Industriya sa Paglalakbay at Turista ay binuo ng Kongreso ng Pilipinas , hanggang sa taong 1973, ginawa ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos ang Ministri ng Turismo na may antas-panggabinete, ang mga ahensyang Pangasiwaan ng Turismo ng Pilipinas (PTA) at Kawanihan ng Kumbensiyon ng Pilipinas (PCB).

At noong taong 1986, sa pamamagitan ng Kautusang Tagapagpaganap Blg. 120 at Blg. 120=A na nilagdaan ni dating Pangulong Corazon Aquino , ang kagawaran ng Turismo ay naisaayos muli at ang PCB ay tinawag na Korporasyon ng Kumbensiyon at mga Panauhin ng Pilipinas ( Philippine Convention and Visitors Corporation ). Noong taong 1998, ang kagawaran ng Turismo ay naging isa sa mga pangunahing tanggapan ng pamahalaan na tungkulin sa matagumpay na sentenaryong pagdiriwang ng kalayaan mula sa Espanya . Noong 2002, sinimulan ng Kagawaran ng Turismo ang isa sa mga tagumpay nitong proyekto sa pagpapalawig ng turismo ang Visit Philippines 2003 sa kabila ng pahuling babala dahil sa 9-11 ataking pan terorismo Naka-arkibo 2009-01-30 sa Wayback Machine . sa ilalim ng panunungkulan ni Richard Gordon bilang kalihim.

Kyline Alcantara, nag-aaral ng kursong Tourism

Isa nang ganap na freshman sa college ang Kapuso actress na si Kyline Alcantara at ang kursong napili niya ay Tourism. 

Sa interview ng 24 Oras, ibinahagi ni Kyline kung ano ang nag-inspire sa kanya na kunin ang kursong ito. Aniya, “I want to have enough knowledge about the Philippines so pagdating ko sa ibang bansa, kayang-kaya kong ipagmalaki kung gaano kaganda ‘yung Pilipinas.”

Dahil naka-quarantine pa rin, online muna ang classes niya, “More of nakakatakot sa akin. Kasi bagong school, e. So, lahat ng nandu’n sa school ko na ‘yon, parang kilala nila ang isa’t isa. And ‘yun nga first year ng college and first time ko rin mag-online talaga. I’m excited for the challenge na kung paano ko ima-manage ‘yung time ko.”

Samantala, napapanood si Kyline sa ‘Kambal, Karibal’, Lunes hanggang Biyernes, sa GMA Telebabad.
