The Bimini Fast Ferry has a capacity of 600 passengers and features both economy and business premium seating.  The Bimini Ferry sails from the Port Everglades on Fridays, Sundays & Wednesdays most months (see full schedule below). The Bimini Fast Ferry offers one-way service, day trips (over and back same day) or split dates (depart one day and return another). Only personal belongings are considered to be luggage. *Each passenger may take one carry on piece of luggage free of charge. The carry on item must be no larger than 22" x 18" x 10" and weigh no more than 25 lbs. Items exceeding these dimensions or if you have additional luggage an additional charge of $25.00 per piece will apply. Any additional luggage fees must be paid at the port at the time of departure. 

Passengers with cargo items (large items that that do not fit in a suitcase, such as dive equipment, bicycles, etc.) must drop these items off at the warehouse the day before your sailing. Please be mindful of the days the warehouse will load your items onboard before you book your sailing. 

ALL items, baggage, etc must be labeled with the passenger’s full name and address. Unclaimed baggage with be held for 10 days at owner’s risk and expense and will be discarded after that period of time.

**Rates may be higher during peak season periods, based on availability, class of seating and other factors. Port taxes, Bahamas departure fees and service fees will be added to your final rate before check-out.

All cancellations made 6 days or less prior to departure: 100% Penalty / 0% Account Credit / No Direct Refund Available All cancellations made 30-7 days prior to departure: 50% Penalty / 50% Account Credit / No Direct Refund Available All cancellations made 31 days or more prior to departure: 25% Penalty / 75% Account Credit / No Direct Refund Available Any account credit balance may be used towards a future booking within 12 months of the date of your initial booking or transfered to another traveler when traveling in groups of 10 or more. Great service, fast and fun

The cruise ship let and arrived when it was supposed to. Shuttled you to the hotel and it’s easy to get pretty much anywhere on the island from there. The boat had comfortable inside seats with windows and also an outdoor deck area. They sell food/booze. Pricey but what can you do. It was super rough on our way out but can’t control Mother Nature. It was still fun. Smooth on the way home. Will def use this service again!

Amazing Trip - LOVE Bimini!

We left on Dec 24th - and this is the only way to go! From check in at the Port of Miami - which was quick & easy - to hopping on the ferry and the great crew that took care of us - to the arrival in Bimini (we highly recommend arranging for a golf cart while on the ferry over) - to the incredible week visit we had & our return home - it couldn't have been better! We were there over the Christmas holiday. We both were concerned about getting sea sick so we planned ahead and started with our Dramamine the day prior. We heard that folks were ill because the water was rough due to the weather & wind - but we didn't have any issue. We did the same on the way back. Better to be prepared than not! And certainly the crew can't help the weather! So prepare yourself! The ferry ride there & back was really great. The return one being so dark out- wasn't much to see - but everything was seamless. We will never fly again when we can go this route. It was less stressful - more fun and we thoroughly enjoyed it!

And the following is the Old New about the cancellation of Bimini ferry of Balearia Caribbean due to Idalia Hurracane on August 30th.

Bimini ferry of tomorrow, August 30 th, has been cancelled by Balearia Caribbean due to bad weather conditions. The Freeport service is confirmed and it will be direct, the sailing times will remain as they are.

Due to bad weather conditions, Balearia Caribbean, the ferry company that connects Florida with the Bahamas from Fort Lauderdale, has suspended the departure of its ship, Jaime II, tomorrow, Wednesday, August 30, 2023.

If you have a ferry reservation for this day, August 30, to go to Bimini, contact Balearia ferry to reschedule your trip or to get a refund of your total reservation.

During the past year 2022 Balearia Caribbean reached 112,000 passengers on its routes between Fort Lauderdale (Florida, US) and the ports of Bimini and Freeport - Grand Bahama - in the Bahamas islands. This result represents an increase of 50% compared to 2021.

Although it has not yet been possible to recover the same level of passengers that was transported in 2019 between Fort Lauderdale (Fll) and the Bahamas, it is expected that for this year 2023 the occupancy levels of the Balearia ferry will be the same, reaching 125,000 passengers.

The volume of merchandise has been maintained with respect to the year 2021, carrying 20,000 units. In total, a total of 450 crossings have been made, with some 27,000 miles traveled.

4 weekly crossings between Fort Lauderdale and Bahamas in low season that are 6 weekly crossings during the months of maximum occupancy in summer. Balearia Caribbean Changes, Cancellations & Refunds

Balearia Caribbean's ferry ticket are not transferable. The name of the passenger cannot be modified in any case.

Those reservations whose cancellation is requested seven days before the ferry departure date, are entitled to a full refund.

If the reservation cancellation request is made between 7 and 4 days before the ferry departure date, the cancellation penalty will be 50%.

Those reservation cancellations requested three days or less before the ferry departure date will not be refunded.

Date changes : Date changes are allowed if they are requested at least 24 hours before the ferry departure date. A fare difference and a US$75 penalty will be applied for each change.

Special Offers and One day Trips: No refund will be applied for cancellations of special offers and one-day trips.

Any passenger who does not board the ferry for any reason, beyond the control of Balearia Caribbean, will not be entitled to a refund or date change under any circumstances.

Balearia Caribbean does not assume any responsibility other than the refund of the ticket, in case it has to refund it, if the ferry trip for which the ticket has been issued does not make the stipulated trip due to operational difficulties, weather conditions, unforeseen circumstances or forces beyond Balearia Caribbean's control.

New requirements effective on June 19th, 2022 .

June 17th, 2022: ALL passengers will NO LONGER need a Bahamas Health Visa starting on June 19th, 2022

Every passenger that is fully vaccinated WILL NO LONGER NEED A TEST .

All unvaccinated travelers ages 2 and older will be required to obtain either a negative RT-PCR test or a Rapid Antigen test— taken no more than three days (72 hours) prior to travel and present the negative test results at check-in before travel to The Bahamas.

Passengers will be required to bring Covid test result, proof of vaccinations (original card) on travel day. This is a mandatory request by The Bahamas government. The embarkation may be denied due to failure of facilitating the proper travel documents.

Children under the age of 2 are exempt from testing requirements.

* Currently, no Covid test or vaccination is required to enter Florida when traveling by ferry.

May 31, 2022: LATEST UPDATE from the Bahamian authorities regarding passengers traveling to the Bahamas from Fort Lauderdale (both Bimini and Grand Bahama) on the day trip. Although those passengers who come to the Bahamas for one day trip do not need to present the Health Visa upon arrival at the port of the Bahamas, it is mandatory that they present a negative result of a rapid antigen test upon arrival.

All other passengers who spend at least one night in the Bahamas must present the Health Visa upon arrival in the country.

Bahamas will require negative PCR or rapid antigen test event vaccunated travelers from August 6th

The government of the Bahamas has modified the requirements for entry into the Bahamas islands and travel between certain islands in the Bahamas in order to provide a safe and healthy island experience for all travelers visiting the Bahamas to safely enjoy the islands.

This new regulation is aimed at all people who apply for a Health Visa to travel to the Bahamas or travel between islands within the Bahamas as of next Friday, August 6, 2021.

From this date to:

Entering the Bahamas from other countries:

All fully vaccinated travelers, as well as children ages 2 to 11, will need to obtain a negative COVID-19 test (either a rapid antigen test or a PCR test) taken no more than five (5) days prior to departure/arrival date to the Bahamas.

Unvaccinated travelers 12 years of age and older must obtain a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken no more than 5 days prior to arrival.

All children under the age of 2 are exempt from any testing requirements.

If you want to travel between islands within the Bahamas from the following islands:

Nassau and Paradise Island, Grand Bahama (Freeport), Bimini (Alice Town), Exuma, Abaco, and North and South Eleuthera, including Harbor Island.

Requeriments for Cruise Passengers.

Guests on cruises originating in and returning to the Bahamas must apply for a Bahamas Travel Health Visa and follow the new testing requirements for vaccinated and unvaccinated persons.

Vaccinated people must provide a negative PCR test or rapid antigen test performed no more than five (5) days prior to arrival in the Bahamas islands.

Unvaccinated people must obtain a negative PCR test performed no more than five (5) days prior to the date of arrival in the Bahamas islands.

All travelers entering the Bahamas on cruises originating in the United States will be subject to the testing requirements required by the cruise line and approved by the Bahamian government.

Cruise lines may have different requirements for vaccinated and unvaccinated passengers. Travelers should check with their cruise line for specific details related to their cruise.

The new testing protocols are for all travelers applying for a Bahamas Travel Health Visa from Friday, August 6th onwards. These protocols will not apply to anyone with imminent travel who has already applied for and obtained a Bahamas Travel Health Visa.

With the idea of ​​seeking stimuli to reactivate tourism in the Bahamas islands from next May 1st, tourists vaccinated with the 2 doses will be able to travel to the Bahamas without having to present a negative COVID 19 test result.

This measure has been announced when several cruise lines (Royal Caribbean, Crystal Cruises and Bahamas Paradise Cruise Lines) are going to start sailing in the Bahamas from June and July, this coming summer.

Balearia Caribbean will relaunch its ferry service from Florida to the Bahamas on Febraury 2021, departing from Fort Lauderdale port. The South Florida-based company runs ferry services from Fort Lauderdale to Bimini first and from Port Everglades to Freeport (Grand Bahama island).

The company announced last week that the Government of the Bahamas has approved the launch of the fast ferry service between Miami (Fort Lauderdale) and Grand Bahama (Freeport) in the Bahamas. His first departure to Freeport is scheduled for February 11, 2021.

Balearia will be offering initially one sailing service a week, with ferry on Thurdays. At the end of Febraury, another ferry service will be implemented on Sundays. If there is an increase in demand for passenger transport, the shipping company is prepared to increase the number of weekly departures in March and April.

At the same time, Balearia will reopen the ferry route between Florida to Bimini island starting on February 10th, 2021. This route will have, at the moment, a frequency of 3 departures a week, in both directions. The Jaume II ferry will be the ship that does both routes.

Balearia will retake its operations with a host of new health and safety protocols, including mandatory face masks, electronic boarding passes, enforced social distancing and temperature checks prior to boarding, and only 40% occupancy of the total capacity of its ferry.

Other sanitary measures imposed by Balearia are: plexiglass dividers have been placed in the common areas and between all the seats, the ship and the ferry terminals are subjected to a deep and extensive cleaning process before, during and after each crossing.

The company’s ships also undergo “deep and extensive sanitation” before, during and after each sailing, the company said. Balearia says it has been certified by Bureau Veritas with the Global Safe Site Covid-19 certificate, one of the first shipping companies to receive the designation. It should be noted that all travelers to The Bahamas must fill out an electronic travel form and have proof of a negative COVID-19 test that is no more than seven days old, among other requirements.

All passengers boarding from Fort Lauderdale (Florida) to Grand Bahama or Bimini (Bahamas) will have to show a negative PCR test for COVID-19 performed at least 5 days before the trip. Each passenger must also apply for a travel health visa.

The government of the Bahamas has announced that it will open its borders to the transport of passengers by ferrys of February 10, 2021 to Bimini island and on February 11, 2021 to Freeport Harbour (Gran Bahama island).

For that, Balearia Caribbean is preparing the safety and hygiene protocols (in its ships and passenger terminals) necessary to offer its customers safe transport, both for people and goods.

The ferry route to Freeport, Grand Bahama, will be opertate once a week (Thurdays) and, if possible, it will be two days a week in February. If passenger demand increases, and sanitary conditions allow it, the frequency on the ferry routes will be increased in March and April 2021.

When booking your trip to The Bahamas Islands, be sure to read, understand and follow these requirements, which are mandatory and required by the government of The Bahamas

As a GENERAL RULE, all travelers who want to visit the Bahamas should apply for a Bahamas Health Travel Visa. This visa can be obtained through the website travel.gov.bs . Also children and babies (regardless of their age) will need their own health visa (although they are not required to take the Covid test due to their age).

VACCINATED PASSENGERS

People who are fully vaccinated (2 doses or 1 dose depending on the vaccine) and who have waited as least the 14 days immunity period will be able to travel to The Bahamas without a negative COVID-19 test result.

Vaccinated passengers must provide, for their entry into the country, proof of vaccination (original card and copy of vaccination card) in addition to the approved Travel Health Visa printed on the day of travel. As we have discussed previously, this is a mandatory requirement of the Bahamian government. If you do not provide the required travel documents, boarding the ferry can be denied by the health authorities.

In case of traveling to Freeport, Grand Bahama Island on a Sunday, you must bring 2 printed copies of the Travel Health Visa and Covid vaccination card plus the original.

UNVACCINATED PASSENGERS

All unvaccinated passengers over 10 years of age must submit a negative RT-PCR COVID-19 test performed no more than 5 days prior to their travel date. (This requirement is not mandatory for children under 10 years old).

At the time of boarding in Fort Lauderdale (Florida) and entering the country, passengers must present printed copies of the negative result of COVID 19 and of the Travel Health approved on the day of the trip. The health authorities of the Bahamas Islands are requesting these two printed reports, both the Travel Health Visa and the result of the COVID-19 RT-PCR test with a negative result. If the passenger does not provide these documents, the health authorities can deny the boarding or entry into the country.

BALEARIA CARIBBEAN'S COVID MEASURES

In order to maximize the safety and tranquility of the passengers on board, and due to the current situation, Balearia Caribbean has taken the following measures against Covid 19:

Before boarding, a member of the Balearia Caribbean staff takes the body temperature of all passengers who are going to make the trip. If the reading of this temperature is higher than 100º Fahrenheit or 37.7º Celsius, the passenger will be denied boarding on the ferry.

While in the ferry terminals and on board the boats throughout the navigation, the use of a mask or face cover is always mandatory for all passengers.

With the safety and hygiene of passengers in mind, Balearia Caribbean has installed additional disinfectant dispensers in all its terminals and on board the ship.

Plexiglass dividers and informational signs have also been placed in different areas throughout the vessel to promote safe distances between passengers and the crew members.

Pre departure & Arrival:

1.- Everyone travelling to The Bahamas must obtain a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR (swab) test taken no more than 5 days prior to the date of arrival. The day the test is taken is considered day zero. Test must return a negative result for entry into The Bahamas.

2.- Travellers must apply for their required Bahamas Travel Health Visa at travel.gov.bs. (Clicking on International Tab). Travellers will be required to opt-in to COVID-19 health insurance that covers them for the duration of their stay in The Bahamas. The cost of insurance is included in the Travel Health Visa application fee.

At the moment, only dogs are allowed to board on the Baleària Caribbean fast ferry. You can travel with your dog by ferry to Bahamas considering the following rules. Always remember that, when you make your reservation, you must also make the reservation for your pet and obtain the boarding card since, otherwise, they will not be able to travel. Your dog/s must travel in its own kennel or pet carrier or in the kennels supplied and equipped by Baleària Caribbean on the ship.

Dogs will be charged as an additional passenger. Please check the ferry Booking enging to confirm rates in any moment. Dogs under 6 months are not allowed to travel. While dogs are on the boat, they must be in their own pet carriers or restrained with a harness and leash, and never in the passenger seat. Owners will also be asked to ensure that their dog does not disturb other passengers.

During the crossing: The dog would need a kennel and a muzzle during the trip. Small dogs (less than 11 lbs.) During the voyage, they will be on the deck or in the place indicated by the crew. Large dogs (over 11 pounds) must travel in a kennel. The kennels are installed on the deck of the ferry, properly ventilated and located in a suitable place, protected from the rain and cold. Culture & History of Bimini

Bimini, also called The Biminis, is actually three islands: North Island, South Island, and the uninhabited East Island. The first inhabitants in Bimini were the Lucayans, and in their language, the name "Bimini" means "two islands". Bimini currently has a population of about only 2,000 people, most of whom live in Alice Town on North Bimini.

Some of Bimini’s famed visitors include Juan Ponce de Leon, who searched for the Fountain of Youth here; Ernest Hemingway, who wrote and fished on the islands; and Martin Luther King, Jr., who wrote his acceptance speech for the Nobel Peace Prize here.

Transportation in Bimini

Transportation is not a problem on the seven-mile-long North Island. One of the most popular ways to get around is by golf cart or bicycle, which are available to rent. Be aware that driving is on the left side of the road here. If you want to travel between the North and the South Island, you can simply take the daily ferry. Taxis are also plentiful.

Shopping Near the Bimini Cruise Port

On the North Island, King’s Highway is the easiest place to find shops for souvenirs or something to eat. There’s also a small market just south of the cruise pier. Find a stall run by a local craftsperson at the Craft Centre in Alice Town for handcrafted mementos made by a local.

We explained that we had on-line tickets through TripAdvisor. She never identified herself, but indicated that if we did not have a paper ticket from her agency, we would not be allowed to board. A lot of discussion and phone calls followed but this issue could never get resolved. There was vacancy on the boat and the boat staff said if he bought a ticket from their representative, we could go on the cruise but that we could not use the TripAdvisor ticket. We ended up buying new tickets so as not to disappoint our grandson. But this was a horrible and disappointing experience. We are requesting a refund from TripAdvisor. I will post the results of that request. I have taken many trips with TripAdvisor over the past 10 years and have never been disappointed until yesterday. C ruises to the Bahamas are filled with sun, soft sands, and the opportunity to dip your toes in a warm and seductive crystal blue sea. The 700-island archipelago is the kind of oasis you dream of when, in my case at least, you're indoors on a cold and dark day in Cleveland. Exploring the islands is tricky by air, but much easier via ship. Bahamas cruises to take right now include quick jaunts from easy-to-get-to Florida ports as well as one-week and longer cruises that explore more deeply. You can sail there in less than a day from Florida (cruises tend to embark in the early evening and hang out at sea until the next morning ashore), which makes it both an easy escape for a quick getaway or somewhere to linger for even more rest and relaxation.

What to expect on a Bahamas cruise

The main places cruise ships visit in the Bahamas are Nassau, the capital city, and some of the islands and beaches that are affiliated with cruise lines, such as Disney's private family wonderland Castaway Cay, off Great Abaco Island. There are small ships that explore further, including to the southern reaches of the archipelago.

Cruise passengers will find opportunities to hike in national parks, enjoy nearly deserted beaches, and explore many small churches-the Bahamas boasts more churches per capita than anywhere else in the world.

In the Bahamian capital of Nassau on New Providence Island, visitors can get a better understanding of the nation's British colonial and West African slave history as well as of the Junkanoo culture and festivals at wonderful museums. Most day visitors, though, are typically focused on water attractions: heading off on diving or snorkeling excursions, boarding party boats with free-flowing rum punch, experiencing the beaches, swimming pools, and waterslides at the Atlantis Bahamas resort on Paradise Island, or trying to catch the big one on fishing charters.

On small ship itineraries, you may stop at San Salvador Island, where Christopher Columbus may or may not have made his first landing in the New World. (Historians quibble on the exact landing spot.) A white cross memorializes the supposed landing spot. Long Island, which stretches some 80 miles, has both rugged and sandy coasts and the natural attraction of Dean's Blue Hole, one of the deepest sinkholes in the world at 663 feet, a place where divers and snorkelers can mingle with turtles and tarpons. The small island of Bimini is known for its clean beaches and rich marine life-hanging out at beach clubs, seeking quiet escapes in the land, and watching for dolphins and other sea creatures are prime activities.

Other cruise destinations include Eleuthera, with its inviting pink sands and protected park areas. In addition to beaches, the 365-island chain known as the Exumas are famous for swimming pigs (though they also live elsewhere in the Bahamas).

Celebrity Cruises sails to Nassau and Bimini in style, and if time or money is tight, you don't have to invest too much in your Bahamas getaway. You can book, for instance, an easy, breezy four-night trip on the 2,158-passenger Celebrity Summit from under $500 per person. That said, if you splurge on a suite in the Retreat, you'll have your own sundeck with hot tub, enjoy private lounge access, and dine at the exclusive restaurant Luminae, where signature dishes by Celebrity's culinary ambassador, Daniel Boulud, are featured on the rotating menu-such as creamy carrot and ginger velouté and Moroccan chicken tagine with saffron couscous. Spa lovers might want to book the AquaClass staterooms, with complimentary access to a Persian Garden with infrared sauna and sensory showers and exclusive dining at health focused Blu, where the wine list features sustainable and biodynamic wines. While in Bimini, you might try your hand at sport-fishing, a year-round pastime from the island.

Disney Cruise Line's Bahamian Cruise from Fort Lauderdale

• Best for: Families and Disney fans of all ages

Disney Cruise Line has ships in the Bahamas year-round, starting with quick three- and four-night sailings from Florida ports. Ever since it first opened 1998, the highlight of any Disney cruise in the Bahamas has been Castaway Cay, a picture-perfect white-sand island paradise, complete with pirate attractions and Disney character appearances. What has Disney fans all atwitter is the opening in summer 2024 of a second exclusive for Disney Bahamas destination, Lighthouse Point, on the island of Eleuthera. There, Disney promises a celebration of Bahamian culture, including Junkanoo parades, characters from Bahamas folklore, and performances by local artists. An accompanying commitment to conservation at Lighthouse Point includes a solar installation that will provide at least 90 percent of the destination's required electricity (Castaway Cay also has a solar installation). Family-friendly attractions abound but grown-ups can also drop the kids off in a supervised activity program and head to the adults-only beach to sip cocktails while lounging in private cabanas.

Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection's round-trip sailing from Fort Lauderdale

• Best for: Top-of-the-line luxury experience
• To book: 7-night cruise from Fort Lauderdale on the 298-passenger Evrima , from $6,100 per person

On the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection's 298-passenger Evrima , you can head to the secluded dipping pool and pretend you are on your own private yacht, luxuriate in your resort-like suite, or join an intimate dance party on the Marina Terrace, located just above the sea. A seven-night itinerary in December 2023 gets you from Fort Lauderdale to Nassau, Bimini, San Salvador, and Long Island, Bahamas, with the bonus of some additional time built in to enjoy the Hemingway House & Museum and other attractions in Key West, Florida. Optional small group shore excursions in the Bahamas include an "Eco-Marine Safari" on Long Island, that combines small boat exploration of a mangrove channel and sandbars with a visit to see swimming pigs in a quiet cay. With both the cruise line and the Royal at Atlantis on Paradise Island affiliated with Marriott International , there's also a hotel tie-in-you can book a daybed at the resort's chic adults-only pool area, the Cove .

Scenic's "Island Odyssey: Bahamas to the Grenadines" cruise

• Best for: Underwater and air exploration

The luxurious 228-passenger Scenic Eclipse features some of the best exploration toys in the industry. An expedition team runs excursions including with two helicopters and a submarine, which will enhance your Bahamas views from both over and under the sea. Or borrow paddleboards and kayaks from the ship's marina for your own solo exploration. A 12-night sailing from Nassau to Bridgetown, Barbados, starts with six days in the Bahamas, before following the yachting crowd south. Stops include Compass Cay in the Exuma Cays, where in the clear water you might see nurse sharks even from the ship. Bird lovers will enjoy a rare visit to the southernmost island in the Bahamas, Great Inagua Island, with its resident population of some 80,000 flamingos. Whiskey lovers will want to check out the ship's collection of more than 110 varieties.

You'll have to wait until 2025, but small-ship line SeaDream has an intriguing pair of upcoming round-trip cruises to the Bahamas from tony Palm Beach, Florida, on the 112-passenger SeaDream II . The "Bountiful Bahamas" itinerary lingers in the Exumas and around Long Island, with the opportunity to explore pristine beaches, hang out at beach shack bars, and snorkel in the clear sea. There's also an unusual visit to the uninhabited Bahamas island Salt Cay (also known as Cay Sal), only accessible by boat and some 50 miles from Marathon, Florida. In between kayaking quiet bays, try the yacht's newest attraction, an inflatable slide running from the pool deck into the water. SeaDream prides itself on cuisine and was the first cruise line with a full vegan raw food menu in addition to such indulgences as a signature l'oeuf poule au caviar (egg with caviar), grilled lobster, and filet mignon.

Or book an activity such as a watercolor painting class, a "Views-n-Blues Mid-Afternoon Cruise" on a pontoon, an open-air tram tour of the island, or scuba dive with hammerheads. On the ship, partake in dance parties, take advantage of complimentary yoga, meditation sessions, and intense cardio HIIT classes, peruse vinyl selections on sale at the record shop, and get a tattoo or piercing when not indulging in treats at the "Lick Me Till  . . .  Ice Cream" shop. There are also six restaurants onboard, including a highly creative "Test Kitchen" where dishes smoke and sizzle, and a super-fun Korean baarbecue experience, Gunbae, complete with drinking games.
