Derren Brown - Showman

About Derren Brown - Showman

The multi award-winning master of mind control and psychological illusion, Derren Brown, is at his very best on stage. His one-man shows have received wide critical acclaim and more Olivier wins and nominations than any other in history! Now with his first brand new theatre show in six years, Derren Brown returns to astonish and amaze audiences up and down the country. The content of Showman remains a closely-guarded secret, but if you’ve seen him before, you know you’re in for a powerhouse treat! "All I can reveal is that the show will ultimately be about you, the audience member, because that’s what I find most interesting. There are places I’d like to take the audience where we haven’t been before. I always aim to have it deliver more than you'd expect. I’m excited to be at the starting point of that process. Getting it on the road will be my favourite part of the year."

Review: Derren Brown: Showman, King’s Theatre Glasgow

derren brown tour scotland

Derren Brown brings his spectacular new show Showman to Glasgow this week – which has to be seen to be believed.

Brown is a commanding presence on stage – oozing charisma and charm. To see him up close and on an intimate scale is a real pleasure.

From its opening to the interval, there is absolutely no let up. It’s a fast-paced interactive experience like no other.

Despite a slight dip in momentum in the second Act, Brown has the audience in the palm of his hand – hanging on his every word.

Showman showcases Derren Brown at his very best. It encapsulates hypnosis, magic and trickery in a devilishly clever package.

Brown’s command of his craft is second to none. He’s one of the UK’s best known illusionists – and it’s clear to see why.

His ability to work a crowd is impressive. On one hand, we’re his victims – but on the other, the whole thing would collapse without total buy in from those assembled.

The audience is sworn to secrecy about the show and we have no intention of breaking that vow.

All that can be said is that as nights at the theatre go, Showman is one of the freshest, most engaging and enjoyable nights out there. Don’t miss it.

Derren Brown: Showman at King’s Theatre, Glasgow until Saturday 12th March 2022 , then touring

“Triumphant…Left the audience speechless”

Derren Brown

London’s ‘jaw dropping’ magic show.

Unbelievable played it’s final performance Sunday 7th January 2024.

‘This is the magic show I’ve always wanted to see’ Derren Brown

EVERYONE YOU MEET IS PERFORMING A KIND OF MAGIC TRICK – PRESENTING THE PARTS OF THEMSELVES THEY WANT YOU TO SEE, THEIR ‘EFFECT’ AND HIDING THE PARTS THEY DON’T, THEIR ‘METHOD’

The West End’s ‘triumphant’ (⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Sun) new production, UNBELIEVABLE , fuses ‘jaw-dropping’ (⭐⭐⭐⭐ WhatsGoodToDo) magic with extraordinary music and mind-reading.

In a re-imagining of live magic, a company of multi-talented performers brings you an original evening of ‘genuine, baffled amazement’ (The I Newspaper).

Step inside the Criterion Theatre where you become the beating heart of the production, and by the time you leave ‘you’ll believe in magic’ (⭐⭐⭐⭐ Daily Mail).

UNBELIEVABLE is written and directed by DERREN BROWN and the team behind his ground-breaking stage productions.

Review: DERREN BROWN- UNDERGROUND, Theatre Royal, Glasgow

pixeltracker

My puzzle for the evening is how to write a review about a show where I have promised to reveal nothing about the contents. Underground is billed as a 'best of' with some of Derren Brown 's favourite illusions from previous shows.

What I can talk about is the staging of the performance and Brown's ability as a showman. The stage setting is very atmospheric and the Theatre Royal was the perfect venue to have a relatively intimate experience with the world-renowned illusionist. Brown is an incredibly charismatic entertainer and a master of his art. The performance keeps momentum throughout and the audience are completely enthralled.

Underground was the perfect choice for my first Derren Brown show as it was an excellent introduction to his work. To say that it was 'jaw dropping' has become a cliché but my mouth was genuinely hanging open for almost the entire performance.

Although I'm under strict instructions not to reveal any spoilers about the content of the show- I'm not entirely sure I could explain what I saw, even if I wanted to..

Derren Brown - Underground runs at the Theatre Royal , Glasgow until Saturday 9th June.

Third time seeing Derren Brown in Birmingham and oh my he did NOT disappoint! Truly amazing as always, quite emotional at the end of this show, such an amazing story behind the show too. Brilliant brilliant brilliant would 100% recommend anyone to go and see this show!

SHOWMAN DARREN BROWN

Thoroughly enjoyed the show on Friday 9th sept , , the only spoilers for me were , the grubby individuals that sat next to me whooping and whistling enough to burst eardrums , the idiot at the rest of the stall that kept shouting out “ oh my god !! And other stupid comments and the tall guy that went up on stage and pretended to be hypnotised !! You know who you are !!!

MIND BLOWING!

Mesmerising from start to finish. One of the best acts I've ever seen. So engaging with his audience. Thankfully it was made clear you only need to go up on stage if you want to. By chance I knew one of the volunteers who did go on stage which made it more interesting for me as I knew he wouldn't be fooled easily. I was left literally open mouthed at the end as I realised I'd been temporarily drawn into his mind control without realising which only emphasised his great talent. A true genius, the Houdini of our generation. An absolute must to go and see. Derren please don't wait too long before returning with a new show. I can't wait to see the next adventure into your creative, talented world.

I saw the show at the Apollo Shaftesbury Avenue. I am always intrigued by Derren and love how his performances, whether on a TV special or live show, are intelligent, interesting, confusing and amazing. I was looking forward to the show and was not disappointed. Great seats in the centre stalls row G so up close. Derren found volunteers selected by Derren firing frisbees into the audience. He kept the audience in his hand despite some participants being unable to follow simple instructions or saying they could do something that they clearly couldn’t ( a lady who caught a frisbee saying she could spin a coin but when on stage was completely unable to spin the coin!) I am, as everyone is, sworn to secrecy so no spoilers as it really would spoil it for anyone planning to go. Well worth the money and we had a great night and went back to the hotel happy but very baffled!! Still trying to understand how that can happen but that’s part of the fun! I wish I was better off as I would love to go again!

DAREN BROWN -SHOWMAN

A totaly amazing experience and show. Captivating and mind blowing. I was lucky enough to be one of the people called up to go on stage, i still can't belive it completely mesmerising and magical. So greatfull that i got the chance to partake.

Why See Derren Brown - Showman?

Comedy & Stand-up Magic Shows

Brand new show

The master illusionist is back and ready to stun, thrill and bemuse with his new production Showman. Whilst the details of this exciting new venture remain a closely guarded secret, Brown has revealed that the show will "will ultimately be about you, the audience member, because that's what I find most interesting. There are places I'd like to take the audience where we haven't been before." Knowing what the man has cooked up before, it's likely that Showman will be his most mind-bending live tour yet!

Approaching National Treasure status

Derren Brown first came to public attention in 2000 when he presented a series of television specials called Mind Control. Never once claiming to be a magician or to have powers, he has redefined magic for a whole new audience and is the ultimate self-confessed trickster. He has played Russian Roulette on live television in Jersey, convinced normal people to commit an armed robbery in the street, led the nation in a spooky live seance, predicted correct Lottery numbers, motivated a selfish man to survive a zombie apocalypse, and exposed so-called faith healers and spiritualists who con the public. Oh and he even appeared on the BBC drama Sherlock in a cameo!

Tour so far

The last two weeks have been a delightful hiatus in Birmingham, a city I really like. It was re-vamped a while back with such pride, and the area around Brindley Place in particular boasts enough great restaurants to keep a foodie like me very happy for a fortnight. Bank Restaurant is top of the list, being where I spent pretty much every afternoon, and Loves nearby was a really excellent new find.

It’s also a great city for the tour, as the staff of the New Alexandra theatre are beyond compare. We are lucky enough to have met some really excellent, super-friendly crews during our tours: the Alex bunch are a particular huge joy. Kim, the general manager, had made me an astonishing photo print as a welcome gift, along with some excellent whisky. More of that please. Thank you everyone there, it’s always such a treat.

The famous Brum friendliness was evident at stage door: numbers are so large outside now that it’s always a bit of a rush, but everyone was super-lovely and didn’t seem to mind. We added a tiny new bit to the show that seems to be working well, on top of the improvements we made back in Oxford. The process of continually trying to improve and tweak is one of the real joys of touring, and of course helps keep the show feeling fresh for me.

I donned the classic hat and shades celebrity disguise for a day-off trip to Alton Towers one afternoon with the gang, and we soared and dipped and vomited on Nemesis and Oblivion and Air and all the rest of them. I rather like 13, for what it’s worth. I like a bit of old-fashioned big dipperiness. A bit of plummeting punctuation to my rides. Nowadays it’s all on the one note, all the same velocity and turny-twisty.

Last year I remember riding everything, including the hilarious and terrifying Oblivion, as many times as I could, like a six-year old high on Fanta, and found later that I had strained my throat with all the tension and nearly lost my voice. So this time I was more careful. (Also, I remember, last year we had Jennie with us, who added stage blood to our faces and blackened up our teeth with make-up so we could look horribly damaged in those mid-ride photographs they sell at the exits. I recommend this game unreservedly.)

The past weeks also brought a night where a chap fainted twice on stage (during, for those in the know, THAT bit). Twice! I’m sure it all looked like part of the show, but it provided the sort of extra excitement that I live for.

Tonight is our first of three nights in Northampton. I believe it’s also home to a Torchwood convention this weekend. I wonder what sort of cross-over demographic will emerge. I’ll watch out for John Barrowman costumes or sudden bursts of ‘I Am What I Am’ in the stalls. (Do I have that right? I honestly don’t have a TV so I don’t really know what I’m talking about).

Righty-ho, carry on about your business. Pleased that the Rapture hasn’t affected show attendance, though I did find myself wondering at a couple of second-half empty seats in the front stalls last night.

The picture shows the rubbish collected from just ONE QUARTER of the stalls the other night. We’re such a filthy bunch.

I do love reading your blog posts Derren, they always make me smile. I have seen Svengali twice and could happily watch it over and over again! The effort that goes into the preparation does not go un-noticed and the energy and enthusiasm you bring to each performance makes it completely addictive. The patience and manners both yourself and your crew show at stage doors night after night is incredible and is not taken for granted. I feel honoured to have met you and the lovely Coops; who stayed for a chat despite being busy. I hope you continue having fun on tour and that the voice holds up so you can really go and ‘knock them dead’ in the West End. Thank you for making the world that bit more exciting and lovely, you are such a babe 🙂 xxx

Oh, oh! I want to know what THAT bit is! Can’t wait for the 20th at Shaftsbury! 😀

ROFLing at the Alton Towers game! Would love to see the faces of people seeing those pictures up on the screens!!!

I sense that the prices of the drinks, chips, popcorn, choclat etc are up to the same level as elsewhere in theatres … You see … I’m psychic .. and however I wished it to be different .. I also sense the brits to lack, indeed, just as much as elsewhere .. especially when they’re not at home …

Stage blood … aah … Can you hook me up with Jennie please .. .. I sense something crazy in her … in me ..

Keep up the good work .. needless to say .. so many people enjoy it ..

Thanks awfully for an exceptionally entertaining evening on the 21st Derren. I was left perplexed and aghast as per usual. Bravo.

Methinks an entry from yourself for DMD2 would be fantastic. You have a penchant for portraits after all. Toodlepip.

Had a fantastic night at the show last night…have waited 7 months to see it and was not disappointed. My husband is a huge fan (he was the one in the tux outside afterwards!) and is very grateful for the signed book and photos! Glad to see your eye was better. Good luck with the rest of the tour xx

Checking that you’ve seen the Charles Rennie M house in Northampton, worth a peek.

You lucky people in England! I´m here in Germany and have to work 🙁 I realy wish to visit the show of Derren Brown he is just great !

Amazing show last night Derren, all 11 of us loved it. Some first-timers in my group and they were blown away as I knew they would be. We all came to belatedly celebrate my 30th birthday and it absolutely made it one to remember having caught a frisbee and found myself on stage taking part. I wish I had had the nerve to volunteer for the first bit but then I got a chance to take part later anyway (fate perhaps? althought I don’t believe in it…) Then you kindly signed things, wrote messages and posed for pics. You are just fabulous and so patient and kind to all your fans who were waiting to see you. I wish you all the best with the rest of the tour xx

Had an amazing night on the 19th, can’t believe me of all people went on stage and was involved in the finale! That night will stay with me for a very long time, it was an amazing show and I felt honoured to be a part of it. Thanks for a night I’ll never forget Derren, and I wish you the very best for the rest of the tour! xxxx

Hi derren any chance of some dates in Kent? Would love to discuss sesonry accuraty and how one can learn to read signs so quickly. No time to calibrate beyond hello. Amazing skills. Great show last night. One last question when you paint is it a time for peace or pondering ideas.

You HAVE to come to Ireland (atleast Northern Ireland!) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was a brilliant show enjoyed it thoroughly, was in hospital and complained i was gonna miss the show so after lots of whining and a male nurse who loves you overhearing, i got ward leave on strict instruction to come back after the show :). So glad I went, if they didnt let me i probably would have sneaked out anyways 😛

You are a truly charming gentleman Derren! I couldn’t stop myself loving you if i tried. You blow my mind with how hard you work and the amount of thought you give to your fans, you really are incredible. I’m coming to see you in Milton Keynes next year, and i don’t think there’s words to explain how excited i am!! I’m really hoping to get the chance to meet you after the show, it would make my year… no, i think it might just make my life! He he! Sounds like Alton Towers was great, i’m a huge theme park fanatic, roller coaster junkie, adrenaline addict etc, and i live for extra excitement too! I’ve been there too many times to count, but i can’t imagine how fun it would be to go there with you – your gang are unbelievably lucky! Good luck with the rest of the tour. Love Leanne xx

Argh no way! I went to Alton towers that day too(monday 16th may I remember) and saw yourself but I convinced myself that it was a really (really) good look a like so I wasn’t sure whether I should say hello. now I feel like an idiot knowing it was definitely you! maybe next time? ha.

Hi Derren. I saw your show at the Derngate on Tuesday, and I loved it completely. It was my first time seeing you live and I can’t wait until your next tour. I always find that in long shows, my attention starts to wonder after a while but with you, I was totally focused for the entire show, trying to figure out what was coming next. I was startled to find myself locked in the main feature (I hope that’s cryptic enough for anyone who hasn’t seen the show but makes sense to those that have!) it’s a very odd feeling and I can’t get over it. You terrify and fascinate me at the same time and you’d be a very interesting man to share a pint with. Please never stop and come back to Northampton! Kind regards and adoration Luke 🙂
