"You just got to tough it out": Tournament leader Nelly Korda eyes down 6th LPGA Tour victory at Mizuho Americas Open

N elly Korda climbed to the top of the leaderboard at the 2024 Mizuho Americas Open after the third round. Korda was able to navigate in the best possible way the bad weather conditions that were protagonists during the day.

Precisely the subject of the difficult conditions that the players had to face during the third round was among the topics that journalists asked Nelly Korda about after her performance.

"The first nine, the wind was down. It was sunny. It was warm," Nelly Korda said. "By the time we got near the water on the back nine, the wind started picking up, and it started drizzling. It was the weather we kind of played in the first day, so made sure to stay warm and to take it a shot at a time."

"I think you just have to look at it that everyone is playing through it as well. You just got to tough it out. You're out here, you're enjoying yourself. You're doing what you love for a living. No matter what the conditions are, you have to put that aside and take it a shot at a time."

Nelly Korda has won three of her five victories this season in poor weather conditions. She won The Chevron Championship and the Drive On LPGA Championship in the face of intermittent rain, while taking the title at the Ford Championship in the cold and rain.

Nelly Korda is still chasing history at the 2024 Mizuho Americas Open

With her five consecutive victories this season, Nelly Korda tied the record for most wins in a row by an LPGA Tour player (Nancy Lopez, 1978 and Annika Sorenstam, 2005). Korda lost her chance to set a new record when she did not win the Cognizant Founders Cup .

However, Koda is still looking to make history with every round she plays on the circuit. Should she win the Mizuho Americas Open, she would be the first player to have at least six wins in a season since Inbee Park did it in 2013.

In addition, Korda will be the eighth player to reach six wins (or more) during an LPGA Tour season since 1980. It's a list completed by legends such as Park herself, Betsy King, Annika Sorenstam, Karrie Webb, Lorena Ochoa, Beth Daniel and Yani Tseng.

Korda has gone from strength to strength in the tournament, improving her score from one round to the next. She played her first round with three birdies and one bogey to start at 2 under 70. The second round saw her again get a single bogey, but with five birdies, to close the day at 4 under and bring her tournament score to 6 under.

During the "Moving Day," Korda again went low on the scoreboard and carded seven birdies with no bogeys to enter the fourth and decisive round at 13 under, two strokes ahead of Hannah Green , who shot an extraordinary 9 under 63.

This week, the LPGA Tour returns to New Jersey for the second playing of the Mizuho Americas Open. The tournament's field is headlined by Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings No. 1 Nelly Korda and defending champion Rose Zhang, the Tour's most recent winner at the Cognizant Founders Cup. The event will take place at the beautiful Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, NJ.

Explore all metrics

Features of the macrostructure and microstructure of uranium dioxide powders are considered. Assumptions are made on the mechanisms of the behavior of powders of various natures during pelletizing. Experimental data that reflect the effect of these powders on the quality of fuel pellets, which is evaluated by modern procedures, are presented. To investigate the structure of the powders, modern methods of electron microscopy, helium pycnometry, etc., are used. The presented results indicate the disadvantages of wet methods for obtaining the starting UO 2 powders by the ammonium diuranate (ADU) flow sheet because strong agglomerates and conglomerates, which complicate the process of pelletizing, are formed. The main directions of investigation that can lead to understanding the regularities of formation of the structure of starting UO 2 powders, which will allow one to control the process of their fabrication and stabilize the properties of powders and pellets, are emphasized.
