NYC’s Only Floating Lobster Shack Is Setting Sail On The Hudson

North River Lobster Company is back for its 2023 season, serving up mouthwatering seafood platters, lobster rolls and more!

Justine Golata

With recent weather reminding us how fabulous NYC is during the spring and summer months, it couldn’t have been a better time for North River Lobster Company to return on the Hudson River for the 2023 season.

This beloved, floating seafood restaurant has cruised the river each spring/summer since 2014. Whether you’re a lobster lover, seafood fanatic or one to simply enjoy a stunning city view from the water, North River Lobster Company is the perfect warm weather activity.

Customers eating on the North River Lobster Company boat

Classic menu favorites like the world’s longest lobster roll (28 inches long) better known as The Shelley and the Lower East Side Lobster Roll served on a flavorful everything bagel will return. Plus, never before offered items such as The Skagen Shrimp Roll, Tuna Tartare, Clam Dips & Chips, and Lobster Clawsicles (available in five different flavors) will be featured this year.

Wash all that buttery lobster down with a Midtown Mule or Sailor’s Spritz and it sounds like a heavenly day to us! And yes, the three-story boat has a full-service bar on every level.

Lobster and drinks from North River Lobster Company

“We are thrilled to be back for another season,” said Craig Kanarick, Chief Executive Officer of New York Cruise Lines, Inc. “We’re looking forward to welcoming back our loyal customers and introduce new guests to the North River Lobster Company experience. In addition to the new menu additions, we’ve got some fun surprises waiting for our guests on the boat including new design elements and fun ways to make your pictures of NYC truly unique!”

Opening day for the 2023 season was on Thursday, April 13th. Boarding passes are now available on the North River Lobster Company website .

The boat departs from Pier 81 on 12th Avenue and 41st Street . Cruise times run from Wednesday-Sunday. Daytime cruises are an hour long, with 7pm cruise options that last for a duration of two hours. Prices vary depending on what cruise day/time you choose.

NYC’s only floating lobster shack is back on the Hudson River!

It doesn’t get much better than eating seafood right on the water.

Melissa Kravitz Hoeffner

Eating by the water is always a treat, but eating lobster rolls and seafood platters on the water is next level. Luckily for New Yorkers, we’re never too far from a river, bay, lake or ocean, with plenty of opportunities for waterfront dining. And some beloved waterside eateries even float and sail.

North River Lobster Company , New York City’s beloved floating seafood restaurant since 2014, has officially reopened for the 2023 season to offer its signature rides around the Hudson, complete with food and bev.

RECOMMENDED: Beautiful boat bars High Tide and Grand Banks are now open for the season!

North River Lobster Company, New York City’s beloved floating seafood restaurant since 2014, has officially reopened for the 2023 season to offer its signature rides around the Hudson, complete with food and bev.

Located in Midtown West’s Pier 81 on 12th Avenue and 41st Street, North River Lobster Company offers four daily sailings at 1pm, 3pm, 5pm and 7pm. Afternoon cruises are 1 hour and the 7pm cruise is a two-hour route to the Statue of Liberty and back. Your reservation is a boarding pass, and at $5, it’s the cheapest booze cruise in the city. Frequent diners can also purchase a season pass for $45.

On the menu: Maine Lobster Rolls, seafood platters, burgers, and ready-to-share appetizers. New menu items this year include tuna tartare, clam dip and chips, The Skagen shrimp roll, and sweet lobster clawsicles in four different flavors (mango, piña colada, strawberry and lime). The best deal on board may be the $17 glass of rosé and 3 oyster special, or you can go all out with the epic 28-inch lobster roll (dubbed the world’s largest lobster roll) for $140, to feed a group.

North River Lobster Co.’s lobster rolls

To drink, North River Lobster Company is offering new signature cocktails including a Midtown Mule (lime vodka, ginger beer, watermelon) and Sailor’s Spritz (aperol, gin, prosecco), plus plenty of rosé, other wines by the bottle or glass, oar shots (photo opp!), frozen cocktails, and more.

Should you want the lovely Hudson River ambiance without the boat voyage, the restaurant’s dockside Pier Bar is also an option for $9 bottles or $36 buckets of beer, plus wine and hard seltzers.

How To Cruise On A Budget In NYC (North River Lobster Co)

lobster boat

Recently, I made one of my most memorable New York City discoveries: a 3-deck lobster boat restaurant called the North River Lobster Co offering beautiful skyline views, uber fresh lobster, and tasty cocktails.

It’s pretty budget-friendly, too, as you pay $10 to board and then only for what you eat, and there are plenty of food options for under $25 as well as $9 beers, $10-$12 wines, and $16 signature cocktails — like the refreshing “Watermelon Mule” with lime vodka, ginger beer, and watermelon.

Plus, they offer great packages if you want to host your birthday party on a boat in NYC . If you have enough people, they’ll even reserve an entire floor of the boat for you!

lobster

What amazed me was that the cruise itself was so budget-friendly to board, with no obligation to buy food or drink if you didn’t want to.

Seriously. You can sit back and get a tan while sailing the Hudson River, with each cruise lasting an hour.

North River Lobster Co opened in May 2014, and I’ve actually had a few local readers in NYC send me emails asking if I’d tried it after hearing the buzz. Well, now I have, and I have some tips:

shrimp po boy

1. Order the lobster, lobster roll or lobster cobb salad. North River  Lobster Co is known for their lobster, which is uber fresh and so packed with flavor you won’t even need butter.

I made the mistake of ordering the shrimp po’boy, which wasn’t bad, but was nothing compared to the lobster dishes my companions ordered.

2. Sit on the top deck if the weather is warm.

It’s open and you’ll be able to feel the breeze and work on your tan (although I recommend you wear sunscreen, as I got a bit burned).

Plus, the atmosphere on this level is very lively and social. The second level is also nice, with window-side tables and a raw bar, with more of a romantic feel.

manhattan skyline

3. Bring your happiest friends. Just feeling the sun shining on you while sipping a vodka-laced lemonade on a boat will instantly make you overjoyed. Bring fun and happy people with you to enhance the experience.

4. Bring your camera. Even if you’re a local you’ll have many opportunities for great skyline and food shots.

What’s your favorite budget-friendly experience in NYC? Please share in the comments below.

OHMYGOSH! My friend mentioned something to me about a lobster boat earlier this summer, but then we could never figure out the name of it or any details about it. Thank you so much for pointing it out! So psyched to finally try it out before the weather gets too cool 😀

A Sunset Cruise on the Hudson with North River Lobster Co

A Hudson River Cruise is a popular must-do activity in New York City , but the idea of cramming into a boat with hoards of ipad-as-camera toting tourists was not super appealing. On the recommendation of a friend who lives in New York, my boyfriend and I spent an evening aboard the  North River Lobster Co , a floating lobster shack & bar on a boat that docks in Hell’s Kitchen.

The evening was so simple, but it remains one of my  favourite experiences in New York City , which I recommend to everyone I know who is going to New York.

North River Lobster Co Free Sunset Cruise

Hudson River Cruises with North River Lobster Co

Boarding the North River Lobster Co is free and you can stay on board as long as you like. Like any other normal bar, you just pay for your food and drinks. The boat has three decks, all serving food & drinks, but we managed to nab a table on the top deck. It helps to arrive early!

You’d expect that something this novel (and fun) would be crammed with tourists and offer overpriced, lacklustre food, but this wasn’t the case. A lobster roll is never going to come cheap ($22) but it was stuffed with lobster and was delicious. I didn’t see any other tourists on board – just dozens of New Yorkers spending a sunny afternoon on the water.

Finding a beautiful view is one of my  must-do activities in every city I visit , and getting out on the water is one of my favourite ways to find a fresh perspective of a place.

North River Lobster Co Free Sunset Cruise

Lobster Rolls, Cocktails & a New York City Sunset

We used their  departure timetable  to time our trip with sunset, which was spectacular over the water. The boat docks at Pier 81 in Hell’s Kitchen , and when we arrived the boat was still out on a previous cruise. Luckily, they have a bar on land at Pier 81 so we had a headstart on cocktails while we waited for the boat.

On board, they’ve got a variety lobster rolls, a full raw bar, light meal options like lobster bisque and clam chowder, and deep fried American classics like popcorn shrimp, mini corndogs, deep fried mac & cheese cubes and buffalo wings. Cocktail jars were $15, but refills were $12, which is a steal in Manhattan. I can’t get enough of seafood, so I had their signature lobster roll & shared a dozen oysters with David.

One of my favourite things about New York City’s food scene is that oysters are everywhere. When Henry Hudson arrived in 1609, New York City has home to approximately half the world’s oyster population at the time, and some of them were up to a foot long! I’m going to write another post and dig into why oysters are such a big part of New York’s food scene a bit more, and include my favourite spots in the city to eat them.

While we feasted on seafood and sipped cocktails, we watched the sun go down and the city light up. I can’t think of a better way to start a summer’s night in New York City.

your photos are beautiful! my sister lived in manhattan for a few years and she actually lived in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood and LOVED it. my favorite thing to do on the cheap in NYC is browse through Central Park. its so beautiful and so big! i always take a walk or run through it every time i’m in NYC.

Thank you Carrie! I think it’s such a cool neighbourhood, I’d definitely try and live here if I moved here! Central Park is great, it’s so enormous you can have a different experience every time you go!

Looks absolutely beautiful! Love the sunset/night-life photos. Frankly, I’ve only visited New York once, and only did the tourist-y stuff, so I wouldn’t know what is affordable or not! Any case, NYC is a nice place to visit; the seafood looks divine!

Thank you! Love being in NYC, after a while some cheaper options become a must though haha

  • Aoife F 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Lovely cruise but improvements needed Food and drinks are very tasty and the atmosphere is chill and comfortable. We went on the 1 hour trip and they didn't specify the difference in sights on the different trips. We were looking forward to see Statue of liberty. That could be more clear. Also extra tacos were overpriced but tasty . New York is expensive in general . Staff were attentive and nice . Read more Written December 25, 2022
  • PhilippeBaucher 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Many things At first, the music was horrible. The volume was too high (we couldn’t talk between us) and you didn’t have any place where the music didn’t harass you. And also the songs were of bad taste. Just latino songs. If you do this cruise, eat before because the buffet was tiny and when the boat leave the dock at 10pm, they tidy the food. So dinner cruise isn’t the good title but appetizer and cruise is more correct. The temperature was cold. To avoid. Read more Written January 1, 2020
  • Joshua C 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Be aware: They are unresponsive and do not honor gift certificates Through a charity auction, I bought a cruise they offer. When I called to book the cruise (per the letter they gave me), they told me coupon was invalid...and they'd look into it. They also said they changed their model and no longer offer cruises for individuals. However, they said they planned to offer some in the future. They said they'd call me back to let me know when....but would not commit to a date to do so. They then went silent...failed to return calls or e-mails and refused to give me my money back. • flaviom177 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Fireworks save the day I got tickets for the “gala dinner” the 4th of July on the Princess boat from World Yacht, New York Cruise Lines. Thank God for the spectacular fireworks show that NYC puts up. Aside from those wonderful 26 minutes the entire experience was a disaster. From arrival, where they make you stand in line for 40 minutes to get tickets, when you already received a bar coded email, to the outrageously bad dinner (by the time we got served - after arriving exactly on time - they had obviously ran out of salad and most everything else...sadly they still had plenty of gas in the grill which enabled the rendering of a shoe sole “filet “) to the extremely cheap wine offering. All for an outrageously high price! Our server tried very hard to make things work but clearly only a super hero would have been able to make things better. So, don’t miss the opportunity to experience the 4th of July NYC show but DO NOT do it on board this “cruise”!!! Read more Written July 17, 2019
  • jbsh7777 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Great once you get past the check-in HOURS. First, the check-in debacle. They asked us to arrive at 5pm, but didn't allow check-in until 5:45pm and then after you waited in that line, you could board. This means that you will be all dressed up and sitting in the hot sun for 1.5+ hours!!! Why on earth would they not allow us onto the air conditioned boat earlier! I ended up with heat sickness and felt like throwing up rather than eating once we did board - just an awful start. Next - the food - dinner was an okay buffet - not bad, but not great. Finally - the fireworks were amazing and made me forget most of the earlier pain :) Read more Written July 8, 2019
  • Lars O 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Cancelation without explanation or apologies I booked this tour as a birthday present for my parents during their NYC trip. Unfortunately, when they arrived at the pier, they were told that their trip has been canceled. There was no explanation given. After some research, I found out that the company has changed their business model, now they do not offer regular tours anymore but only on special days. It is fair for any company to do what they want, but when you have already sold tickets, you have to do your job, do the tours that have already been booked and start your new business model afterwards. I think the company is just completely unprofessional, they didn't even see the need to inform us beforehand. Although a refund has been made, I m still very angry and would not recommend anyone to book with this company - the birthday present for my parents I gave together with my brother has been ruined by them. • 902cindyt 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles New Year's Eve Cruise Here are the good points: It was raining like hell on NYE in NYC this year, so this boat was the place to be as far as I'm concerned. It was a little difficult getting to the dock area bc it was so crowded. We paid $500 a person and had the 4 course dinner. The service was great. Erika did an great job. We had a table by a window, and we had a fabulous time. Fun dancing downstairs, open bar, nice fire works. Magical evening. All that said....if you are serving filet mignon and lobster tail, then it should be cooked to perfection...especially if I'm paying $500 a person (there were 6 of us). All steaks had to be medium and were not really, and the lobster tail was dry with no drawn butter. That was disappointing but did not ruin my night. I also wish you could have gotten a little closer to the statue of liberty, but whatevs..... I want to go back to what a fantastic job Erika did. We loved having her as our server. • juanirc25 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Worst than horrible. We went yesterday in the timeless yatch for the New Year’s Eve, The boat is nice, I will not deny that, but the service was terrible, first we had to wait in the rain for more than 45 minutes, when we entered there was a problem with the table, we were a group of 7 in an 8 table, an 3 more families had our table. But the worst part was the service: - the bar was always too crowded, we always needed to be in line for more than 25 minutes to get one drink. - The Buffet: I don’t have a word to describe this, there was more than 300 people at the boat, 3 floors but only 1 buffet in the bottom flor, we made a line for 1.25 hour to get the food, we ate a 11.25 pm, and the food was terrible, dry chicken, bad cocked veggies, hard as a stone, pasta with no flavor. And the celebration cake was a joke, I’ve never ate a cake as bad as that one. New Year’s Eve must be a special night, and when you pay $200 per person you except something good, this was below decent I fell scammed. I will not recommend this boat and this company in any circumstance. Read more Written January 1, 2019
  • TravisW891 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Horrible service for the money I bought this dinner cruise for my girlfriend and I as my plan was to propose to her during the dinner (which was the highlight of my night when she said 'yes'), however this cruise basically ruined the proposal for me. I purchased the VIP package and our server only stopped by twice. I had to walk to the bar to get drinks because our service was so slow. I was of the impression that if you showed up from 6-7 you would have hors d'oeuvre's and champagne. The hors d'oeuvre was a basket of stale bread. Our server didn't come from about 20-30 mins later to give us champagne, and we never received our appetizers. The food wasn't even that great, and I think I had maybe 2 carrots thinly sliced as one of my sides. I was very disappointed in everything especially for the money that I paid. I would avoid this at all costs. Read more Written December 11, 2018
  • Lanc963 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles END OF SEASON FEEL We booked our trip at the last minute as we were only in New York for a couple of days and we decided to go for the all inclusive package. As it was a sunday night the boat was quite empty so we were expecting a more personal service, afraid not. The champagne and canape reception was at your table and we had to wait ages for our glasses to be refilled and when we were given the menu to order it only had three courses. My wife ordered the daily special which we found out later cost us an extra $27 which the waitress or the menu didnt inform us about and throughout the whole meal we were not asked if we would like any other drinks so i had to go downstairs to the bar to get it myself. Considering I had paid over $400 for this trip the food was really average and by the time we returned to port for the last hour most of the customers had left and the staff were clearing the bar shelves so it felt like we were in the way. I would have given a lower rating but the waitress knowing that it was my wifes birthday came and found us at the end of the night with a small cake with a candle in it.Thank you I think if you are visiting New York then this trip would be better enjoyed during the summer months Read more Written December 7, 2018
  • mrsfhowe 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Our Wedding night We eloped in New York in November 2018 and decided to take the Hudson river cruise on the evening of our wedding. From getting on the boat in our wedding attire to leaving, it was a fantastic experience and one of the highlights of our holiday. Our server was called Cleiton who was very attentive and made our experience all the more memorable, he came outside on the deck to take some photos of us with the statue of liberty and the new York skyline in the background. On exploring the vessel, staff stopped me to ask about our day and compliment us on our attire. The manager, Victor even cane to tell us that they will do anything to make our evening all the more special. Amazing service. We even had the opportunity to have time between courses and our champagne was regularly topped up. Our dessert was presented beautifully with 'congratulations' in chocolate on the plate. Cleiton even presented us with a beautiful note upon leaving thanking us for choosing them to spend our wedding evening there. Staff went the extra mile to make our wedding evening extra special and would recommend this experience to anyone visiting New York. And we hope to visit again soon. • FlickHarv2015 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles A lovely idea with terrible service We attended on the evening of thanksgiving for a river cruise and 4 course thanksgiving meal. It was unfortunately very cold, below zero and we had to queue outside for 20 minutes to have our vouchers checked and be shown to our table, not a great start. I then had to keep my coat on the entire time as it was cold inside aswell. We asked if the hearin could be turned up a little as there were others in coats aswell. It was, but 10 minutes before the cruise finished. We had to ask for our champagne after being sat at the table for 30 minutes without a server appearing. Our meals were brought out at different times and were like warm. The couple next to us were actually forgotten about with the main meal and had to ask only for it to be brought out cold. However one thing was brought out very quickly, the drinks bill at the end of the night. The cruise itself was lovely, and seeing New York lit up from the river was amazing. But the experience was definitely not worth the $300. I appreciate thanksgiving is busy but when you have paid that amount of money, good service is expected. Read more Written November 23, 2018
  • toolmanore 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles A dinner with a view My wife and I decided to splurge for the dinner cruise with a view. The best idea we had while visiting NYC. We got there a little early and were greeted by deck hands and were seated for dinner. We did buy the drink tickets with the meal and we enjoyed the champagne all night long. The dinner was great but the real treat was our server and the view of the skyline. We had a great server who even tracked us down on the top deck to refill our drinks, a little above and behind but really appreciated. We took numerous pictures of the skyline and the Statue of Liberty. The best way to see the NYC lights at night. The view was amazing. The whole experience was great. Oysters were amazing and desert was fabulous. Thank you for the great memories. We will do the dinner cruise again when we go back. Read more Written October 11, 2018

The 5 best nyc dinner cruises for food & views.

These dinner cruises provide some of the best views of Manhattan.

The Best NYC Dinner Cruises

Friends enjoying a La Barca Cantina dinner cruise.

When you're strolling the streets of Manhattan, it can be difficult to grasp the magnitude of the city, with its skyscrapers and densely packed landmarks. The solution? A boat ride. A breezy sail in New York Harbor can feature everything from an elegant dinner to a live jazz band to tacos and tequila. Read on to discover the top-rated New York City dinner cruise options as determined by travel expert opinion and recent reviews.

City Cruises New York Bateaux Premier Dinner Cruise

Price: From $144 Duration: 3 hours Standout perk: This all-glass boat delivers panoramic skyline views.

Climbing aboard the Bateaux feels like stepping into a greenhouse, with its glass-enclosed structure and water views in every direction. There are no bad seats on this boat, but as an upgrade you can reserve a window table for the best views of the Hudson River, the East River and the New York Harbor. This cruise is a match for anyone seeking elegance: The tables are covered in crisp white cloths, wine and cocktails are served in sparkling glasses, and a three-course a la carte dinner is served at a relaxed pace (no buffet here).

The Bateaux cruise is an experience to get dressed up for, where the dress code is semi-formal and dinner is accompanied by live music. The sunset can provide the perfect backdrop for pictures, and don't forget to snap a shot of the Statue of Liberty . Children younger than 6 are not permitted on this cruise, so expect a polished, for-adults atmosphere complete with creative cocktails and dancing under the stars. The Bateaux has rightfully earned a reputation for its fresh food; this three-course, plated menu includes several tempting a la carte options from a ravioli starter with crispy pancetta to osso bucco with cauliflower polenta.

City Cruises New York Signature Dinner Cruise

Price: From $109 Duration: 2.5 hours Standout perk: A live DJ gives this dinner cruise an extra dose of atmosphere.

Looking for a casual night of dining and dancing with the addition of a skyline backdrop? This dinner cruise offers just that. Set sail from Chelsea Piers in a climate-controlled boat along the Hudson and East rivers, admiring New York City landmarks like the Empire State Building . For dinner, indulge in a chef-prepared buffet with a wide range of options from Greek salad to oven-roasted salmon with miso to Caribbean jerk braised pork. If you're bringing a sweet tooth on board, be sure to check out the ample dessert station.

After snapping some pictures on the open-air deck, return to the cabin for cocktails from the cash bar, interactive games and upbeat music from the onboard DJ.

Those traveling with young kids will be pleased to know that infants younger than 3 cruise free – so feel free to bring your little ones along to enjoy the experience with you.

La Barca Cantina

La Barca Cantina dinner cruise with lights on boat at night.

Price: Varies Duration: 2 hours Standout perk: You'll find an extensive tequila and mezcal list on board to accompany the Mexican fare.

One criticism of New York dinner cruises is that they don't offer good value for money, but the "taco boat" challenges that critique with ceviche, tacos, churros, cocktails and skyline views for an affordable price. Climb aboard a yacht at Pier 81 to experience a youthful, modern interpretation of a dinner cruise – think: low lighting, couches for lounging and three bars, complete with Latin pop, salsa and dance music playing in the background. Raise a glass while the yacht sails south on the Hudson River to check out world-famous Manhattan skyline views.

La Barca Cantina also offers a bottomless brunch cruise with a DJ, as well as special events.

Classic Harbor Line NYC Evening Jazz Cruise

Live jazz trio performing for the Classic Harbor Line NYC Evening Jazz Cruise on the Manhattan II yacht in the summer.

Courtesy of Classic Harbor Line

Price: From $108 Duration: 1.5 hours Standout perk: A jazz trio typically featuring a sax, keyboard and drums plays live on board.

Listen to jazz standards aboard a 1920s-style yacht with this fun sightseeing cruise departing from Pier 62 in Chelsea Piers. Choose between kicking back in the climate-controlled cabin or on the open-air deck throughout this evening cruise, which includes views of Manhattan landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Live music is played outside on the deck or inside the salon, depending on the season (and the boat, Manhattan or Manhattan II).

While this cruise doesn't offer dinner, one complimentary alcoholic beverage is included, and a cash bar offers additional drinks and snacks. Listen to music by Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and more as you sail past the twinkling Manhattan skyline. Those traveling in a group should keep in mind: Tickets are slightly discounted for groups of 4 to 16.

Circle Line New York City Harbor Lights Cruise

Circle Line's Harbor Lights cruise at night with New York City buildings in the background.

Courtesy of Circle Line

Price: From $54 Duration: 2 hours Standout perk: This no-fuss, excellent-value cruise option has drinks and snacks available for purchase on board.

When you're craving panoramic views rather than a three-course meal, choose the Circle Line's Harbor Lights cruise departing from Pier 83. This sightseeing sailing delivers an up-close experience of the Manhattan skyline lights coming to life, while cruising past landmarks including the Brooklyn Bridge and the Chrysler Building . A live guide provides narration and historical context for what you're seeing. As the sun sets behind New Jersey, watch the glow of the sinking sun reflect in the windows of skyscrapers.

Food from the onboard cafe – like salads, sandwiches and snacks – as well as beer, wine and cocktails at the bar are available for purchase. This is an ideal situation for groups with varying levels of hunger and thirst. Sit alfresco in the breeze or indoors in the climate-controlled cabin – it's up to you.

Non-English-speaking guests can download the Circle Line app for narration available in several languages; just be sure to bring your own headset.

American Cruise Lines operates small ship sailing on various waterways around the U.S.

It’s been argued that the U.S. is so diverse and offers so many varying vistas that you could spend a lifetime traveling from coast to coast and still not see it all. From the Rockies to the Smokies, from the desert to the tropics, from skiing to scuba diving, America really does deliver.

And that’s exactly what American Cruise Lines celebrates as it explores the history, heritage, and places behind all that makes America beautiful. The line offers over 50 itineraries ranging from six to 60 days and visits 35 states from Alaska to Florida. It is the only cruise line in the world with a 100 percent American-made fleet—that fleet consists of small ships that hold between 90 and 180 guests, classic paddlewheelers, and a brand new line of coastal catamarans.

American Cruise Lines’ 19 riverboats and small cruise ships make up the largest domestic cruise line in the country, and travelers are flocking to its upscale, all-inclusive experiences.

River Boat Itineraries Keep It Interesting

The popular jet boat ride into Hell's Canyon is one of many excursions available on the Columbia & ... [+] Snake River cruise.

Itineraries within the continental U.S. highlight the Mississippi River, including the Ohio, Cumberland, and Tennessee Rivers; the Columbia and Snake Rivers; the Hudson River; and Florida Rivers (St. John’s and Tolomato). For Americans, ports of call are usually just a short flight away. For those traveling farther, it’s a fully-planned and coordinated way to visit some of the most beautiful parts of the country. And everything is taken care of for you from start to finish.

You might find yourself on a quaint city walking tour, kayaking with a guide who points out the wildlife, touring a fort, flightseeing over majestic landscapes, or exploring a museum.

Fortnite Servers Are Down Here s When Chapter 5 Season 3 Begins Updated

Here’s what happens if trump is convicted—as trial goes to jury next week, putin ready for ceasefire in ukraine on current frontlines report says here s what russia would gain, american cruise lines’ small ships are all-inclusive.

The all-inclusive experience here is a huge selling point. One of the reasons American Cruise Lines is booked out well in advance is because it makes traveling so easy. Everything, including food, beverages (yes, even the alcoholic kind), entertainment and educational presentations, most excursions, Wi-Fi, port taxes, and even gratuities is included. In fact, domestic flights, pre- and post-cruise hotel stays, and ground transportation are part of your package as well. In other words, you won’t be nickel-and-dimed with this line. Make a phone call to book, answer another call to arrange your flight, and that’s the extent of your effort.

The staterooms on American Cruise Lines' small ships are the largest in the industry, and all new ... [+] ships sport private balconies.

Once you arrive, you’ll be thrilled to see your stateroom. While cruise ships are known for making the most of tiny spaces, American Cruise Lines boasts the largest cabins in the industry and more space per passenger for moving around, securing a lounge chair, or selecting your seat at dinner. One hundred percent of cabins face outward, and all new ships have floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open to private balconies. Views are unobstructed in rooms as well as dining areas, so these ships are especially appealing to those who have avoided cruises out of fear of claustrophobia. With so much space and light, those fears will be laid to rest.

Perhaps one of the most impressive selling points is that American Cruise Lines’ ships meet the highest emissions standards and have tiny carbon footprints. The line incorporates the latest technology, including a bow that opens like a drawbridge from which a powered passenger gangway emerges. This allows for bow landings and ensures the ship can navigate into areas most ships could never traverse.

Small Ship Dining Is Relaxed, Not Hurried Or Crowded

The dinner experience on a small ship in the American Cruise Line is intimate and tailored to your ... [+] dietary restrictions.

While small ships don’t offer casinos and grand productions, what they do have are talented musicians, a cocktail hour with a beautiful array of hors d'oeuvres, and educational speakers. Some of American Cruise Lines’ offerings include Mark Twain and literary experts on the Mississippi River cruise, biologists and ecologists on Florida cruises, and Lewis and Clark experts on the Columbia and Snake River cruises – sometimes the experts even accompany cruisers on excursions to further enhance those experiences. And you can expect dining to be more intimate, more gourmet-leaning, and adaptable for vegans, vegetarians, and so on. This attention to individual needs is one of the many benefits of the small ship experience.

American Cruise Lines is the only line in the U.S. that offers both river and coastal cruises, and the new addition of coastal cats provides adventure opportunities for cruisers who love the idea of getting some wave action. If you’ve only done ocean cruising, it may be a great way to dip your toes into river cruising. But if you’re brave enough to jump all the way in, river cruising can provide a totally different – and totally blissful – experience.

Cruise ship captain detained after Danube crash kills 2, leaves 5 missing

A cruise ship crashed with a motorboat in Hungary over the weekend, leaving two dead and five others missing — with the captain later detained on suspicions that he failed to stop before the accident and didn’t help the victims, police said Monday.

The captain, a Czech national, was on the Swiss-based cruise ship Saturday night when it struck a motorboat that was carrying eight people on the Danube River.

“Based on the suspicion of police, the captain did not alert his crew after the accident, did not follow provisions of the rescue protocol and took no action whatsoever to save the persons afflicted,” police said in a statement.

Authorities uncovered the catastrophe that night when a 35-year-old man was found with a bloody head wound near a main road near Veroce, about 35 miles north of Budapest.

“Police talked to the man and from his initial communication they drew the conclusion that he was probably the victim of some kind of boat accident,” Soma Csecsi, spokesperson for the Budapest police, said this weekend.

Authorities also recovered another man’s body downstream — and found a woman’s corpse farther along, near a bridge on the outskirts of Budapest.

Cops also found their damaged boat there.

Disaster response units have been searching for the five missing people — all of whom were in the smaller craft — as they question dozens of witnesses, including the cruise shop crews, tourists on board and others.

Cops have also found signs of damage on the side of the cruise ship.

Two dead and five missing following a boat collision on Danube River in Hungary

A blue and white boat floating down the river.

Two people are dead and five are missing following a boat collision on the Danube River in Hungary.

Hungarian police received a report late on Saturday night, local time, that a man had been found bleeding from his head on the shore of the Danube near the town of Verőce, around 50 kilometres north of the capital, Budapest.

The bodies of a man and a woman were later discovered nearby.

Hours after police began their search, they discovered a damaged boat in the water, which they towed to shore.

A group of people walk off a boat.

They are still searching for five adults — three men and two women — who they believe were on the boat.

Police said they had determined that a river cruise boat had been in the area at the time of the accident.

They stopped a cruise boat with a damaged hull near the town of Komarom, more than 80 kilometres further upriver.

Hungarian public television station M1 reported that the cruise boat, Heidelberg, is a 109-metre Swiss craft that can accommodate 110 people.

No passengers on that boat sustained injuries, M1 said.

The Danube at Verőce is roughly 460 metres wide and is in the centre of an area called the Danube Bend where the river makes a sweeping, nearly 90-degree turn to the south.

The area is a popular recreational and boating destination and is on a route often used by cruise boats between Budapest and the Austrian capital, Vienna, some 230 kilometres upriver.

The deadly accident comes five years after at least 27 people were killed in Budapest when a river cruise boat collided with a smaller tourist vessel, sinking it in seconds.

The tourist boat Hableany, carrying 35 people who were mostly South Korean tourists, was overtaken from behind by the much larger cruise boat, Viking Sigyn, beneath Budapest's Margit Bridge, in May 2019.

The Ukrainian captain of the Viking Sigyn was found guilty in 2023 of negligence leading to a fatal mass catastrophe and sentenced to five years and six months in prison.

He has appealed the decision.

On Sunday police said they have initiated criminal proceedings against an unknown perpetrator on suspicion of endangering water transport and causing the death of several people.

Disaster response units, including 95 personnel, 25 vessels and drones were still searching for the five missing people along the entire Hungarian section of the Danube downstream from the site, police said in a statement.
