Delta Plane’s Nose Bursts Into Flames After Landing as Passengers Rush to Evacuate via Wings and Slide: WATCH

The Airbus A321neo aircraft had 189 passengers, two pilots and four flight attendants on board

The nose of a Delta plane burst into flames on Monday, May 6 due to an electrical malfunction, the airline confirms.  

Delta Flight 604 had just landed at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in Washington from Cancun when the incident occurred. The Airbus A321neo aircraft was carrying 189 passengers, two pilots and four flight attendants, according to the airline.

Surveillance footage of the incident shows the plane arriving safely at the gate followed by what appears to be an employee connecting a black wire to the nose of the aircraft. Black smoke then billows out from the front of the plane and red flames erupt. 

As the fire and smoke grow bigger, the emergency slide deploys at the rear of the aircraft. Passengers then scramble onto the wing via emergency doors and exit down the slides before hurrying away from the plane.

In a statement shared with PEOPLE, a spokesperson from Delta said: “During deplaning on the evening of May 6, the crew of Flight 604 from Cancun to Seattle witnessed smoke in the aircraft nose area after plugging into ground electrical power.”

They continued, “Out of an abundance of caution, slides were deployed and passengers still on board deplaned via the rear of the aircraft. Passengers were fully evacuated, and those deplaned to the ramp returned to the terminal via the ramp stairs.”

Once safely off the plane, all passengers went through regular processing in the International Arrivals Facility for customs, the airline adds. The aircraft was then removed from service to be inspected and undergo maintenance. 

The airline also confirmed that they opened up an investigation that focuses on the ground power apparatus and not the aircraft, which they say is less than two years old. They add that Delta operates approximately 4,800 average departures every day.

In April, Delta Flight 520 had to make an emergency return to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York after the evacuation slide fell from the aircraft shortly after takeoff. 

The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that the “crew reported a vibration” after hearing a non-routine sound near the right wing of the plane. The Boeing 767-300ER aircraft landed safely at the New York City airport where it was confirmed that the slide was missing.

A few days later, the slide was found caught in a jetty in Queens, New York. 

A spokesperson for the New York City Parks Department told PEOPLE, “On Sunday [April 28], Delta removed a large piece of debris from the jetty near Beach 131 Street.”

The story of how Ted Mosby ( Josh Radnor ) met the woman who would eventually become his wife came to a close a decade ago, but that doesn't mean that fans are tired of watching the character's complicated quest to find love. Fate wasn't always kind to Mosby, but luckily for him and audiences around the world, his friends were always there for him.

The main characters of How I Met Your Mother also include Marshall Eriksen ( Jason Segel ), Lily Aldrin ( Alyson Hannigan ), Robin Scherbatsky ( Cobie Smulders ), and Barney Stinson ( Neil Patrick Harris ), as the group struggled to improve both their careers and personal relationships in New York City. When the series was nearing its end, Cristin Milioti joined the cast as the titular mystery character, establishing Tracy as the mother of Ted's kids. Video shows FedEx cargo plane land on its nose in Istanbul after landing gear fails

A Boeing-767 type cargo plane operated by FedEx ran into a couple of bumps and sparks as it attempted to land at Istanbul Airport in Turkey without its front landing gear Wednesday.

The cargo plane, operated by FedEx, was flying from Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport, according to a statement by Turkey's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu , when the pilot of the aircraft informed the control tower at Istanbul Airport that its landing gear had failed to open. The official said airport officials sprang into action and assisted the aircraft in touching down, while managing to remain on the runway. Emergency response, medical teams and necessary fire extinguishing equipment was also deployed on standby, Uraloğlu said.

Video footage from the landing shows the plane touching down on the runway before it tilts forward and starts dragging on its nose the runway creating a cloud of dust and sparks. It eventually comes to a stop with its fuselage touching the ground. As the plane comes to a halt, fire trucks douse the plane with water.

"With the successful guidance of our staff, the aircraft landed smoothly on its fuselage," Uraloğlu said.

No injuries reported

Two pilots were onboard the aircraft, according to Uraloğlu's statement, and were medically assessed after the landing. No injuries were reported.

The runway where the plane had landed was temporarily closed for all flights as multiple agencies gathered on site. A video shared by the minister shows crews and officials gathered around the aircraft while a fire truck and ambulance are parked on the side.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, said Uraloğlu without going into further details into why the landing gear had failed.

Another Boeing plane issue? Don't fall for the headlines.

The freight aircraft involved in the accident is nearly 10 years old and was delivered to FedEx in 2014, according to a Boeing spokesperson. Following delivery, operators oversee ongoing maintenance for airplanes in operation. Reuters reported that Boeing 767 freighter is one of the most common cargo planes.

FedEx, meanwhile, in a statement to USA TODAY, said that the FedEx Express Flight 6268 was flying from Paris to Istanbul when it experienced an issue during landing.

"There were no reported injuries to our crew members," FedEx said. "We are coordinating with investigation authorities and will provide additional information as it is available."

While Boeing incidents have been in the news in recent months after a series of high-profile incidents, aviation experts maintain you shouldn't worry about flying .

“We don’t have to worry that there’s something systemically wrong with aviation,” Clint Balog, an associate professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, previously told USA TODAY.

Is Bodkin A True Story? The Netflix Series’ Inspiration, Explained

The show follows fictional podcasters investigating an Irish mystery.

From Only Murders in the Building to Based on a True Story, several popular shows are dedicated to the true crime podcast phenomenon — and on May 9, another entered the chat. Netflix’s Bodkin is a dark, comedic thriller about a group of podcasters who travel to an Irish village to investigate a 25-year-old mystery.

If the description alone makes you want to watch the podcast Bodkin is based on, well, there’s a catch: Bodkin is not a true story, nor is the titular village a real place. “It’s all fake people. The mystery itself, we worked very hard to find something that is in no way adjacent to a real true crime story,” co-showrunner and executive producer Alex Metcalf told Netflix. “The fictionality of it was very deliberate.”

While Bodkin (which stars Will Forte, Siobhán Cullen, and Robyn Cara) may not be a true story, there’s a reason why it feels like it could be.

Bodkin Is A Comment On True Crime

Creator Jez Scharf told Netflix that the idea for Bodkin came when he was thinking about the “morality” of true crime. “They’re often very tragic stories, but are parceled up into neat episodes with a good hook at the end,” he said.

Bodkin , however, takes a less straightforward route to the genre. “Actually, of all the true crime podcasts, the one that was most inspiring to us was S-Town ,” Scharf explained. “That’s one where you come in thinking it’s going to be about a murder, but then the story just spins out in ways that you don’t expect.”

It Filmed In A Historic Location

Another reason Bodkin might resonate with true crime devotees is that it was partially filmed in West Cork, per the Irish Examiner. The Irish coastal district was also the center of a popular 2018 podcast called West Cork, which revolved around the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier in 1996.

Just as the characters in Bodkin visited the titular town for their story, the West Cork podcasters did the same while working on their project, as Jennifer Forde told Ireland’s Image magazine.

GQ noted the similarities and suggested Bodkin might have been inspired by West Cork, but as Netflix notes, the series is “entirely fictional.”

Bodkin Has A Presidential Connection

While viewers will naturally be focused on the on-screen twists, Bodkin’ s behind-the-scenes team is a surprise in itself. Both Barack and Michelle Obama serve as executive producers on the series via their Higher Ground production company. The pair have already produced several projects, ranging from docs and scripted films to educational programming , but Bodkin marks their first dramatic series.

Most time travel stories are either stories of intervention or preservation; following protagonists attempting to either alter the past to correct for something in the future, or doing everything in their power to return to their own time period without drastically altering the past. Time Patrol Bon sits squarely in the middle, which is exactly what makes it a beloved cult classic manga — and a surprisingly prescient adaptation from Netflix.

Based on the manga by Fujiko Fujio, the comic book-writing duo known for creating the beloved Japanese pop culture icon Doraemon , Time Patrol Bon (stylized on Netflix as T.P Bon ) follows Bon Namihira, an ordinary junior school student living in present-day Japan. He inadvertently crosses paths with a time-traveler named Ream from the future and learns of the existence of Time Patrol, a technologically advanced organization that travels through time and space rescuing innocent lives while maintaining the course of history.

It’s only after discovering Bon plays a pivotal role in the history of humanity that they choose not to erase him from history to protect the secret of Time Patrol’s existence; instead they offer him an opportunity to join their cause. Accompanied by Buyoyon, a sassy, ghost-like extra-dimensional creature, Bon joins Ream as her apprentice as they travel across history saving lives while growing into his new responsibilities as a Time Patrol agent.

It’s a fascinating premise, one that naturally begs a question that’s not all that dissimilar from what multiverse stories often broach: What is the value of a single life in the totality of existence? And who, if anyone, should have the authority to decide that? In the case of Time Patrol Bon , that authority is the Time Patrol Research Office, who are dedicated to finding and saving the lives of individuals who will not impact the course of history. In emphasizing the value of good, but otherwise unhistoric people whose lives were cut short on account of tragic accidents, misunderstandings, or overt malice, T.P Bon makes a case for the abiding value of all life in and of itself, as well as the importance of human relationships.

Take the anime’s eighth episode, wherein Bon and Ream are assigned to save one — and only one — kamikaze pilot during the Battle of Okinawa. Torn between his compassion for all human life and his obligation to uphold Time Patrol’s parameters lest he compromise the organization’s mission and very existence, Bon ultimately resolves that saving any life, even if only one life, is a worthwhile and noble endeavor if it can be done. It’s a really profound moment that nails home both Bon maturing into his responsibilities as a member of a Time Patrol, but also the series’ overall humanistic message. To put it another way: Not everything that is faced can be changed, but that’s not an excuse to do nothing. Even the smallest of actions is worth doing if it contributes to lessening the sum of human suffering.

By his own admission, Bon is an average everyday teenager. He doesn’t have any special powers, isn’t especially physically gifted or academically accomplished, and isn’t even all that popular at his school. From a glance, he barely registers as a footnote in the history of humanity, let alone the grand scheme of existence. If someone like Bon can go on to impact the future of humanity, aside from his role as a member of Time Patrol, then anyone can.

It helps that T.P Bon is helmed by respected animator Masahiro Ando, known for his work as a key animator on 1995’s End of Evangelion and Ghost in the Shell , as well as his own 2007 anime film Sword of the Stranger . Such a resume helps the show be all it wants to be: T.P Bon is an excellent blend of whimsical sci-fi spectacle, drama, and occasional edutainment, with stories featuring Bon and Ream rescuing sailors lost at sea, thwarting prehistoric poachers in the Jurassic period, and even inadvertently inspiring the 16th century legend of Journey to the West. In creating a series that strikes the balance between light-hearted adventure and existential meditation, Ando and studio Bones have delivered not only a faithful and worthy adaptation of Fujiko Fujio’s original manga, but one for the ages.

Shocking new video captured the moment a Delta plane caught on fire, prompting a total evacuation, at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport last week.

The newly released clip obtained by KOMO News shows a fireball exploding and black smoke rising from the nose of the Airbus jet, below the cockpit, shortly after it landed on the night of April 6.

Delta Flight 604 from Cancun, Mexico, arrived safely at the Washington airport around 9:35 p.m., but after plugging the aircraft into the terminal’s electrical network, things went awry.

The plug-in shorted out and sent sparks flying — sparking a fire directly below the cockpit of the Airbus A321 aircraft, SEA spokesperson Perry Cooper said.

The pilots smelled the smoke and told the crew to deploy the emergency exit slides, he said.

One passenger told KOMO that the flyers freaked out once they learned they were being evacuated.

“I think people responded to that with panic, there was a little bit of jostling in the aisles to get to the exit,” said Ashwin Menon, a Seattle software engineer who was coming home from vacation with his wife. “But overall it was a pretty smooth evacuation process.”

The surveillance footage shows passengers walking out onto the wing of the plane before hopping onto the inflatable chutes, where they slid to safety and onto the tarmac.

“It was like just jump out, jump onto the slides, and within a couple minutes, everyone was out,” Menon said. “I was calmer than I thought I would be. I’m quite afraid of flying.”

About two-thirds of the 189 passengers exited via the slides, while the remaining had already gone through the passenger loading bridge, Cooper said.

Seattle fire officials responded — though the fire had already gone out on its own — and evaluated a few people for possible injuries related to the slide. None needed further medical care at a hospital, according to the airport spokesperson.

The evacuated passengers were brought into the terminal via a stairway to the loading bridge and were sent to international arrivals processing and customs.

Delta said: “Out of an abundance of caution, slides were deployed and passengers still on board deplaned via the rear of the aircraft. Passengers were fully evacuated, and those deplaned to the ramp returned to the terminal via the ramp stairs.”

The statement added: “The aircraft has been removed from service for inspection and maintenance.”

The electrical connection that shorted has since been repaired and is operating as normal, KOMO reported.

“Kudos to the airline crew who reacted as trained with an abundance of caution,” Cooper said in a statement to The Post. “Rather have a little inconvenience than something that could have turned worse.”

An investigation into the exact cause of the fire is still underway.  

The Federal Aviation Administration did not immediately respond to a Post inquiry for more information.

Jamie Foxx continues to get back into the swing of things in his career following his health scare last year — and he's getting to meet a few sports G.O.A.T.s in the process.

As the host of FOX’s popular game show Beat Shazam , Foxx led FOX's Upfronts on May 13, where he previewed new seasons of The Masked Singer and Animal Control and highlighted the upcoming MLB Negro League tribute game for FOX Sports, according to Variety .

Posting on Instagram , Foxx, 56, shared photos of backstage action with some of sports' greatest stars, Tom Brady , Derek Jeter , Alex Rodriguez , Rob Gronkowski and Deion Sanders .

“Goat herd blessed company," he captioned the post, referencing the "Greatest of All Time" acronym. "Big fun on stage in the apple. Being upfront at the upfronts."

Foxx was hospitalized in April 2023 due to a " medical complication ," his family said at the time. On May 12, his daughter Corinne shared that he was now out of the hospital and doing well, and the rest of the summer brought more updates from family, friends and Foxx himself as he improved.

A source told PEOPLE last month that Foxx is is "doing incredibly well" as he looks forward to his return to Beat Shazam and several new projects.

“He is so busy, and back to doing what he loves," the source says of Foxx, who will be returning to host the FOX game show with his daughter Corinne Foxx , 30, for its upcoming season.

"Jamie didn’t skip a beat on Beat Shazam ," the source says. "He was literally right back to his old self. Really on it!"

While Foxx has yet to clarify exactly what happened , he said at the 7th annual AAFCA Special Achievement Awards in March that he will share the full story in a forthcoming stand-up comedy special .

A second insider told PEOPLE that Foxx "is super busy, happy and going strong,” nearly one year after the medical emergency that landed him in the hospital for several weeks while he was filming his upcoming Netflix movie Back in Action with Cameron Diaz, who makes her long-awaited Hollywood return.
