Children love learning about animals. Most children find animals fascinating and enjoy learning about different animal habitats, diets, and characteristics.

If you’ve spent any time doing activities with young children, you know they also enjoy sorting things.

Children will learn about and become familiar with safari animals with the animal matching cards I share in this post.

Safari animals are animals that thrive in grasslands or savannas.

Use these printable memory cards as a fun learning activity to help children learn and recognize some of the animals that live on the safari.

Continue strolling below for instructions on how to assemble the game cards and to print the animal matching cards.

What You Need to Assemble Your Animal Matching Cards

  • Safari animal matching cards printed onto quality cardstock
  • Laminating pouches and a thermal laminating machine

Safari Animals Matching Cards

You only need a few items to assemble the safari-themed animal matching cards . You likely already have printer paper and scissors on hand.

Pring the cards onto quality cardstock so the animals will not show through the paper when the cards are placed face down.

It is also a good idea to laminate the cards for durability. I like to use paper clamps to easily keep the cards organized and stored away until our next use of them.

Safari Animals Matching Cards

My children used our safari animal figures along with the matching cards.

Safari Animals Matching Game Printable

To assemble the game cards, you only need to print them, cut them out, and laminate them.

Shuffle the cards and lay each card face down before having your kid(s) play the matching game.

Safari Animal Look-and-Find Game- with printable!

What child doesn’t love the idea of going on safari? Well, with this safari animal game, you can bring the safari right to your home!

Your kids will love looking for and finding the African animals. And we’ve included a checklist so that they can keep track of what animals they have found.

We did this activity as part of our Uganda preschool unit . My kids had a blast searching the house for the animals and were delighted every time they found one.

And they loved hearing stories about how I went on a real-life safari when I was in Uganda and all the different animals I saw.

For extra fun, be sure to make our safari binoculars and safari hat crafts beforehand for your child to use on their safari!

  • This includes time and chain bonuses.
  • The level score is displayed below the level’s icon on the selection screen.
  • Beating your previous high score changes your level score.

Memory Cards Needed for Safari (What I found Surprised Me)

african safari memory game

Since you are going to be taking a million photos on your African Safari, one of the things you need to ask yourself is how much memory you need to store all of those Safari photos and how big your memory cards should be to allow you to capture all the memories without them getting filled up.

How many memory cards do you need for an African Safari? You Need at least Two 64GB Memory Cards when going on an African Safari. This memory is sufficient for you to take 2000 high-quality photos per day for a 10 day Safari and you will not need to carry an external device to transfer the photos each day. Let’s look a bit more deeply at the average number of pictures you expect to take on your Safari and how this and the size of each picture will affect the size of memory cards you need to carry.

How Many Memory Cards Should I Take?

You should take two 64 GB Memory cards to your African Safari.

I got this figure after doing some research using a Canon EOS 700D Camera : when preparing an article on how beginners can improve their safari photos

I took a photo of the same subject 7 times; each at a different image size setting. The data collected is illustrated in the table below.

I tested a Canon EOS 700D (Rebel T5i) and found that a high quality large photo (5181x3456Px) takes up about 5MBs of space). This file size usually varies depending on  the level of detail in the picture and the number of colors in the photo. Assuming that you will be talking an average of 2000 photos per day and if you don’t intend on transferring them to a computer at the end of the day, you may end up using 100Gb of space on a 10 day Safari.

Carry enough memory cards to avoid running out in the middle of your Safari.

The amount of memory you need if you are  planning to take safari videos will depend on the quality of the video and how much video you intend to record.

Just a few videos to supplement photos

If you will be recording a few clips to add to the pictures you already have, then the 2 64GB cards will be sufficient for you. This is because, according to the table I showed earlier, you will only need 110GB of  space for your photos and this leaves you with 18GB of space to store the videos you will have

Vlog videos more than just a few minutes

However, if you will be recording a vlog or video that will be more than just a few minutes, 128GB will not be sufficient.

One way you can get around this is recording each day, then transferring the recorded videos to a separate device like the laptop. With that configuration, you would only need the recommended 128GB of memory from the two 64GB cards.

You won’t find cards available to buy when on safari

You may be thinking, “Cant I just buy more memory cards if my cards get filled up?”.

Trying to shop for extra gear when you arrive in Kenya is not advisable for a number of reasons:

  • You are unlikely to get good quality memory cards for your camera unless you are in a large city.
  • The cards will cost a lot more than how much you would buy them for when in your home country
  • You are not sure that you will find a memory card that is compatible with the camera you are using.
  • Delivery service in Kenya is very inefficient and you are unlikely to get the memory cards on time if you order for them online.

My advice is that you get all the memory cards you need before starting your journey to avoid getting frustrated when the cards you have fill up and you are not able to get an easy alternative to solve your problem.

Should You carry a laptop to transfer the photos

If you don’t want to buy a new memory card, one of the options you may want to consider is carrying your laptop for you to transfer all the photos at the end of each day.

This will have two advantages

  • You will be  able to store away each day’s worth of photos so if something were to happen to your camera, you would not loose all of the photos.
  • You will also have a machine you can browse the internet with while on safari ( let me mention here that you are unlikely to find very high speed internet when out on safari. You will have great internet in the city but the connection is really bad in the safari lodges. This is unless the lodge has invested in a satellite internet connection)

However, the downside to this would be that you have extra weight for you to carry around and the stress of one more device you need to worry about.

I would recommend that you don’t carry the laptop with you to the safari if your only reason for carrying it is to back up your photos. This is especially true if your laptop is heavy or bulky.

What About uploading Safari Photos to The cloud everyday

Another option you may have considered is uploading all of your content to the cloud after the end of each day.

The challenge with this option is that you still need to carry some type of machine with you to do the upload.

On top of this, internet speeds in the Safari country are bad and you will have a rough time trying to upload high quality images to your online storage

Many cards with small storage or one card with huge storage?

Another question you may have pondered about is whether you should have many memory cards that have low capacity or one large capacity memory card to store your safari pictures

I did some research and found that  carrying multiple cards is a better option than just one high capacity one. You will not be putting all your eggs in one basket so if something goes wrong with one card, you will be able to recover  some of your pictures.

Having multiple cards comes with a few downsides which you will need to consider:

african safari memory game

  • It will cost you more to get the same memory capacity when you have multiple cards compared to having one high capacity one.
  • You are likely to lose one of the memory cards if you are not very careful
  • The challenge of swapping out memory cards in the middle of a safari

The other possible downside to having multiple car

I recommend that you have the two 64GB cards and an emergency spare 32GB memory card in case you run into problems with the first cards. However, this might be overkill for most beginner photographers.

What kind of memory cards should I buy

If you are looking to buy memory cards for your African Safari, you may want to consider the SanDisk Ultra 64GB Memory Card (available on Amazon) . It is a mid-range memory card that has thousands of great reviews on Amazon and I think it’s a good price.

There were a number of other memory cards that were more expensively priced than this that allow for faster writing and reading but I think for most of you, this particular memory card will be sufficient for your needs.

Africa Safari Trip: A Comprehensive Guide To Crafting Unforgettable Memories

H ave you witnessed a lion’s roar echo across the savanna or watched a herd of elephants lumber by? An Africa safari trip is an otherworldly experience, but where do you even begin? This guide will equip you with all the essentials to plan your unforgettable adventure . Even though it can seem overwhelming at times, if you’re equipped with the right guidance and information, the procedure is rather easy.

To help you plan the perfect safari tour in Africa, in addition to answering the majority of your frequently asked questions, we’re put together some of the greatest tips and useful suggestions.

Choosing the Location of Your African Safari Trip

An Africa safari trip promises an enchanted world of discovery, where each expedition and place holds the potential to reveal a captivating tale. Every area of this enormous continent, from the lush deltas of the south to the brilliant savannahs of the east, offers a different fabric of fauna and culture. This is more than just a journey—it’s an exploration of the core of nature, where opportunity abounds at every turn.

African safaris are unique among travel experiences because of the authentic, natural spectacle of the wild. These excursions aim to fully immerse you in the world of animals, not just observe them. Planning your destination is among the most crucial aspects of preparation for any holiday, including this one. Africa is vast, so it’d be helpful to start with a “where to go on an Africa safari trip” Google search if you have no idea what to do.

To select the ideal safari destination, you must consider the things you wish to see. Are there any specific animals or cultural events you would like to see? Kenya and Tanzania from July to October are your best choices if you’ve always wanted to see the Great Wildebeest Migration. Visit either Botswana or South Africa to see a huge herd of African elephants throughout the year.

In East Africa and the majority of Southern African nations, the “Big Five” are also widely distributed. Travel to Uganda, Rwanda or the Congo for gorilla trekking; these countries are all in Central Africa. If you want to see chimpanzees on your Africa safari tour, Uganda is the ideal place to do it.

Top 5 Choice Destinations for Your Africa Safari Trip

Here are our top five African wildlife safari destinations to help you plan your trip.

Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve

At the Maasai Mara Reserves, the Big Five roam free, and boundless plains extend into the horizon on a wildlife safari. Traveling off-road and appreciating the lack of fences and lodging at any of the Mara conservation areas allows you to experience the breathtaking sight of countless wildebeests roaring across the East African savanna around the Great Migration.

From open safari vehicles, watch as lions hunt their prey with unparalleled subtlety. Elephants socialize within their close-knit groups, and elegant giraffes peruse acacia trees with grace. A fascinating insight into the Maasai people’s dynamic local culture, which is entwined with the land, its profusion of wildlife, and the natural beauties of the wildness itself, is provided by Maasai Mara.

Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park

Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park is home to a large environment that is brimming with life. See the boundless plains packed with antelopes, zebras, and wildebeests as they migrate in a never-ending dance of survival throughout your Africa safari trip. It’s what you anticipate seeing on game drives following your viewing of National Geographic or PBS programs. You might be amazed watching the big cats lounging in the shade following a good hunt, or you might experience the exhilaration of seeing a cheetah racing across the landscape in a flurry of speed.

There are other methods to observe wildlife, such as taking a hot-air balloon flight across the savanna for breath-inspiring, all-encompassing views of this iconic African terrain. Seasonality is essential when thinking about visiting the Serengeti; never schedule an unplanned online vacation.

Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park

You can feel the African wilderness in Zambia, not just see it. In contrast to safaris that are limited to metal enclosures, South Luangwa encourages you to stroll among the animals rather than drive by them. Imagine your heart racing as you make your way through verdant riverine forests full of leopards hiding in their disguises, only to be astounded by vast herds of buffalo crossing wide-open savannas.

As you approach elephants bathing, listen to the Luangwa River’s rushing waters, which will lead you to the echoes of night safaris. You can unwind in the unexpected comfort of fly tents or treehouse retreats when the stars adorn the sky.

South Africa’s Greater Kruger National Park

You can journey across acacia woodlands and tour places with sun-filled savannas along the rushing waters of the Sabi River in South Africa’s Greater Kruger National Park. Hear the echoes of prehistoric existence and see the exhilarating dance of adventures amidst the rare species. Renowned for its almost assured Big Five meetings, you get to experience the exhilarating thrill of seeing elephants trumpeting by a waterhole or lions relaxing in golden light—you don’t have to imagine it.

There is more to Kruger’s artistry than the Big Five. Higher populations of predators and a more varied array of species can be found in the superb private game reserves found in the Greater Kruger National Park. Wander along the river where crocodiles and hippos sunbathe before becoming lost in the rainbow of more than 500 different bird species.

Botswana’s Okavango Delta

Emerald islands emerge from the reflecting waters of the spreading waterways of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A mokoro is a native dugout canoe in which you may sail softly and intimately while spotting sleeping hippos afar and thirsty elephants sipping at the riverbanks .

Search among the trees for one of the greatest spots to see leopards or take in the aerial views of storks, eagles, and pelicans.

In such a distant location, the Okavango Delta boasts one of the largest concentrations of upscale safari resorts in Southern Africa, providing you with exclusive access to convenience and uncrowded rivers for a singular embrace of unspoiled wildlife.

Tips For An Outstanding African Safari Adventure

The foundation of a great African safari is effective communication. It makes sure you get the best possible experience out of your trip by bridging the gap between what you expect and the actual conditions of the environment. There are three communication techniques to help you receive the experience you want by interacting with an Africa safari trip guide or travel advisor .

Clearly state your demands and desires. Tell us about your ideal speed, cultural attractions, the wildlife you hope to see, and any unique interests you may have, such as birdwatching or photography. This enables your guide to customize your safari adventures based on your interests and budget. Mention any possible restrictions. Any physical restrictions or sensitivity should be disclosed to your guide to guarantee a fun and safe trip.

Pose inquiries. Never be afraid to ask questions about anything that piques your curiosity, be it local customs or the behavior of animals. Your guide holds a wealth of information that is just waiting to be discovered.

African safaris are an ode to the diversity and grandeur of nature. Every excursion offers a chance for a profound and intimate connection with nature. However, in a world full of breathtaking locations, the real art of travel is in how you take in each one. Each destination has a spirit of its own, and you can make transforming vacation experiences with the correct itinerary in addition to ones that are simply memorable.

Whether you’re traveling to the wild African savannahs or the charming countryside of Tuscany, creating a one-of-a-kind, dreamlike trip requires careful planning and vital information. It all comes down to creating a seamless, stress-free, and uniquely personalized tapestry of memories.

People Also Ask

How far should my Africa safari trip be scheduled? It’s advisable to make reservations eight to twelve months in advance of when you wish to go or depart for your selected African safari location. Enough time guarantees availability and your place at the top of the line for the most desirable experiences that Africa presents. It is always better to schedule your safari trip earlier than undergo a last-minute rush.

When is the ideal time to go on an Africa safari trip? The dry season, which runs from June to October, is the ideal time to go on a safari. Since it’s a warmer period of the year, there’s a greater chance that you’ll spot creatures looking for water. You can also witness the famous Masai Mara migration during these months.

Browning African Safari: Who's Hunting Who?

Windows - 1998

Description of Browning African Safari: Who's Hunting Who?

Crotch licking.

Browning African Safari  comes billed as "Who's hunting who?" (not to nickpick or anything, but shouldn't that be "Who's hunting whom?"). Without looking too much into the game I thought that, finally, this would be a cool hunting game. As has been mentioned by others far wiser than myself, the biggest problem with hunting games is that they are so damn passive. You shoot a deer. If you hit it, it dies. If you miss, it goes away. That's it.

What's missing is the action of a game like  Quake . If you miss in  Quake , chances are you will die. If you miss in  Deer Hunter II , you yawn, stretch, wonder if there's anything good on TV now. As exciting as watching my dog lick its crotch. With  Browning African Safari , however, I envisioned a game where the animals fight back. If you miss and the animal lunges at you, chances are you will get mauled. This would be cool (heh-heh -- ed.). Given that I just finished off  Deer Hunter II , I also envisioned the game set in a 3D environment. This would be a game worth playing. Problem is, it just isn't  Browning African Safari.

Who's kidding who(m)?

Browning  is among the last of the first generation hunting games. All the rest have gone 3D. This one is still stuck in the land of the two-dimensional panorama, so the whole concept of being hunted by animals is tossed out the window. Either they come at you from the front or from the rear (your guide gives you a warning). Yawn. You do get to do the complete 360-degrees, but this is small consolation. "Who's hunting who?" Yeah. Okay.

The game sets up a lot like  Cabela's Big Game Hunter II  (which  Ed skewered recently  in his review: "this game deserves a trash award from the very first spelling mistake in the dialog to the lame hunting engine"). You are a big game hunter sponsored by a museum to go stock its shelves full of African skins. They spot you $10,000, and out of that you have to pay for your transportation, guide, longing, food, and supplies. You then choose your guide (either a man or a woman, though it doesn't matter which one you pick as both are as useless).

After the rigorous selection process, you're off to Africa (seven grand is deducted each time you go, which apparently covers airfare, lodging, ground transportation, and food). Once in Africa, you go to a local supply hut and buy the items you need. You can choose from three weapons -- a 30-odd- 6, a .458 rifle, and what appears to be a compound bow. Essential items for your survival are sunscreen, mosquito repellant, bullets, a canteen, malaria pills (which generally make you as sick as malaria does in the real world, by the way -- your well-travelled ed.), and safari clothing. You will also need a hunting guidebook and binoculars. You only have to purchase the clothing and your weapons once, but the rest you have to replenish every so often. You can also buy some African art to take back home and sell to the museum and make a little money that way (though obviously the big bucks are in the skins).

The bulk of the items are there to help you survive the harsh African climate. ** Browning  **includes a health meter that represents your health (hence its name). Get dehydrated, and if you have no water, you die. Same with sunstroke, malaria, mosquito bites, etc. Functionally, the bar is useless, as if I am out of water and my health is low, I can just magically pop back to the lodge and replenish it. All I lose is about five or six minutes of time.

There are eight hunting locations to choose from and you access these by a cartoon map. It would have been different if choosing a location meant being there that day. But you can pop around from location to location with zero penalties. This eliminates any strategic choices involved in hunting the big game. Since you don't really need to be prepared, this also reduces the health bar to the status of useless appendage.

Once hunting, the 2D experience is a huge step backward from even the extreme pixellation of  Deer Hunter II . There is a pretty 2D map that you look at, and then use your mouse to turn round and round until you sense movement. You then shoot (depending on what it is of course) a 3D picture. This game would have been so much better if you could stalk your prey (and it could stalk you). There is some strategy involved regarding what you shoot, as the kills have a permit fee (an impala costs $200 while a white rhinoceros costs $75,000). If you shoot the wrong thing or too many of something, you go to jail and game over. Interesting concept and it comes off fairly well.

What doesn't come off well is this idea that the animals are dangerous. They are not. First off, they don't come close enough to you to make it a problem. Second, if they do, you shoot them. Either they drop with the second shot, or they drop on the third. Of course, if you miss, you die. Them's the breaks. But, since the animals charge straight at you, it's pretty damn hard to miss the second time, especially since the animal takes up half of the screen.

Coulda been a contender

There is no guidance as to when the best time to hang out by the waterhole might be, or when zebras tend to take a dump in the woods (this, I believe would be the ideal time to kill them, kinda like getting those action pose hockey cards). It's basically guesswork, which becomes a joke since you can pop between locations with zero penalties and zero time lost. There is a health meter, but since you can beam back to the hut to get replenished, the health bar is irrelevant (if your health grows too low you just rest until the next day). All in all,  Browning African Safari  is a game released a year late. Had it come out last fall alongside  Deer Hunter , this title would've been warmly received. As it is now, it is --like much within the game -- irrelevant.

I like this game, played it years ago and recently re-dicovered it. I do have one suggestion though; When clot from hungwe tours, introduces the guides, instead of calling them "top notch professional hunters", just warn the player that "THEY ARE BOTH EQUALLY RETARDED". They do not know an Elephant from a rat's arse. I.E. When one requests a croc they will take you to a dam, but you will find everything in the book and more, but NO CROC!!!!

Charging elephant kills an American woman on 'bucket list trip' in Zambia

An American woman who was on what she had called her "last big trip" was killed when a charging elephant flipped over the car she was traveling in at a national park in Zambia .

The “aggressive” creature buffeted the vehicle carrying six tourists and a guide, tour operator Wilderness said in a statement Tuesday. It said the 79-year-old victim died after Saturday's incident on a game drive at the Kafue National Park in western Zambia.

The company did not name the victim but Rona Wells, her daughter, identified her as Gail Mattson in a post on Facebook. She said her mother died in a “tragic accident while on her dream adventure.”

A video circulating on social media apparently showing the incident shows a large elephant running toward a car, which slows down as the animal approaches its left side. The elephant then flips the vehicle over and the passengers can be heard gasping as the car rolls over.

NBC News does not know the condition or identity of the person who filmed the video.

Photos shared online of the car, which is emblazoned with the logo of the tour operator, show it tipped onto its side after the incident, with a deep dent in two of its side doors.

Wilderness, which describes itself as a “leading conservation and hospitality company” operating in eight African countries, including Zambia, did not respond to NBC News when asked to confirm the authenticity of the video and the photos.

But the tour operator’s CEO, Keith Vincent, said in the statement that the company’s “guides are all extremely well trained and experienced.”

"Sadly in this instance the terrain and vegetation was such that the guide’s route became blocked and he could not move the vehicle out of harm’s way quickly enough,” he added.

Gail Mattson, during a safari in Zambia

Another woman was also injured in the incident and taken to a medical facility in South Africa, the Wilderness statement said, adding that four others were treated for minor injuries.

“It’s extremely rare to see an elephant that irate,” Marlon du Toit, a wildlife photographer and safari guide, told the “TODAY” show Thursday. “Across Africa, there are thousands and thousands of guests on safari on a daily basis with no negative consequences.”

The exact cause of Mattson’s death was unclear, but the company said her body would be repatriated to her family in the United States with the support of local Zambian authorities and the U.S. Embassy in the capital, Lusaka.

“This is a tragic event and we extend our deepest condolences to the family of the guest who died,” the statement added.

NBC News has reached out to Mattson's family for further comment.

Kafue National Park is Zambia’s largest and oldest national park, according to its website, and spans an area of more than 8,000 square miles. Vast regions of the park remain unexplored and the website says it is home to a variety of untamed wildlife.

A 'bucket list trip'

Mattson spent her winters in Sun City West, Arizona, playing bridge and cards, but during the rest of the year, she "travels all over the world," her friend Brenda Biggs told NBC News. Biggs and her husband, John Longabauth, became friends with Mattson when they moved to the area 6 ½ years ago.

Longabauth said Mattson spoke to the couple about her upcoming safari trip about two weeks ago, and called it "one of her bucket list trips." He said she was very excited for the adventure.

Before she left, she gave the couple concert tickets for a show that would happen while she was traveling, telling them to enjoy the concert and "I'll see you when I get back," Longabauth recalled of the conversation.

Biggs said Mattson, who was almost 80 years old, told her that the African safari was her "my last big trip." She said Mattson was "super excited because it was like the culmination of all the trips that she had gone on."

An avid traveler, Mattson took to trips to Europe and Asia, Longabauth recalled, noting that she might have been to South America, too.

Biggs called her friend "flamboyant," "friendly" and "fabulous" and said she loved bright colors. Mattson had taken over Biggs’ job as the event planner for their 200-member bridge club, she said.

"Gail was one of the more up people you'd ever want to meet," Longabauth said. "She was always up. She was always optimistic. She was always seeing the good side of everybody."
