  • Badami:  Badami, formerly known as Vatapi. It is famous for its rock-cut monuments such as the Badami cave temples, as well as the structural temples such as the Bhutanatha temples, Badami Shivalaya, and Jambulingesvara temple. In the local tradition, Badami town is linked to the Agasthya legend of the epics. In the Mahabharata, sage Agastya is described in the epic as a sage with enormous powers of ingestion and digestion. To kill men, asura Vatapi used to become a goat and his brother Ilvala would cook him. Then, Vatapi would recollect in the stomach and tear himself out from the inside of the victim, killing the victim. When Agastya arrives, Ilvala offers the goat again. He kills Vatapi by digesting the meal as soon as he ate, giving Vatapi no time to self-organize. Agastya thus kills the demons Vatapi and Ilvala. This legend is believed to have played out near Badami, and thus the name Vatapi or Agasthya lake.
  • Sanakpur lake:  Of course, we ain't missing out on this gorgeous beauty. You need to walk uphill after you reach the lake. The glimpse of the scarcely crowded lake is a treat for your eyes. It simply is nature in its best form for your mind to seek solace. Why not do a workstation and cliff jump in between? Here is the place to jump off a boulder and we definitely got you covered! And not to forget there will be some lovely coracles waiting just for you to take you on a ride across the lake.
  • Vittala Temple:  The 16th-century Vittala Temple, Hampi's most beautiful building, is situated between stones 2.5 kilometers from the bazaar. Construction of the temple may have begun under Krishnadevaraya's rule (r 1509–29). The building was never finished or dedicated, but its magnificent sculptural work is now regarded as the height of Vijayanagar art.
  • Virupaksha Temple:  The most well-known temple in Hampi sometimes referred to as the Pampapathi temple, was constructed in the seventh century. Its exquisitely carved walls, each of which tells a mythological tale, are dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple contains shrines for Sage Vidyaranya and Virupaksha. For devotees of Lord Shiva, Virupaksha Temple is a revered sanctuary. It is situated on the Tungabhadra's southern banks. One of India's oldest temples in continuous operation, the Temple has never experienced a non-operational day since its founding in the 7th century AD.
  • Lotus Mahal:  Open pavilions are located at the bottom of the two-story, attractive structure, and balconies are located at the top. The Mahal (Palace), a spectacular example of the blending of Hindu and Muslim architectural details, is named from the exquisite, geometrically structured colonnaded apses, that mimic the petals of a lotus flower spreading to the sun.

Anjeyanadri Hill:  The Anjaneyadri hill in Hampi lies in the center of the Anegondi area, Karnataka state, India. It is the birthplace of Hanuman. According to Sanatana Dharma, Hanuman was born to Anjana and thus Hanuman was also called Anjaneya, and his birthplace was Anjaneyadri (Anjana's Hill). The hill has a Hanuman temple at the top. It has about 575 steps. The temple has a rock-carved idol of Lord Hanuman. There are also shrines of Lord Rama and Sita and Anjana Devi temple in the vicinity.

Badami – Aihole- Pattadakal – Hampi is on a must-to-do list for every tourist visiting Karnataka.

Located in the heart of Vijayanagara District, which once was the capital of the Vijayanagara Empire, Hampi was its capital. Vijayanagara was part of Deccan (now Hyderabad) and dominated all of Southern India and was probably the strongest empire in the Indian subcontinent. Vijayanagara Empire is considered to have been a golden age of culture and learning.

A 4 days itinerary can be planned to keep in mind the distance travelled from Bangalore. One day each at Aihole- Pattadakal, Hampi, and Badami is enough. But if you wish to study the heritage sites deeper, you can choose to stay a little longer.

Day 1 – Hampi

Elephant Stables Hampi

Hampi Elephant Stable

The iconic Chariot, the image of which can be seen on a 50 rupee note in Indian Currency, needs no introduction. A vast area of ruins, a live temple, a Lotus temple, and many more heritage sites in the compound makes Hampi the most visited monument in Karnataka. The glorious capital of the Vijayanagara Empire, Hampi is a UNESCO World Heritage site. A must-do destination, Hampi is famous for its historic significance, heritage, temples, ruins, and exquisite craftsmanship. The major attractions at Hampi include Virupaksha Temple, Ugranarsimha Vigraha, Lotus Palace, Hampi Bazaar, Vittala Temple, and much more. The 7th century Virupaksha Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva with gigantic Gopuram is the highlight of Hampi. The temple is still active and the pilgrims offer prayers to their deity. The other attractions include Sasive Kalu Ganesha, Kadale Kalu Ganesha, Anegundi, Vijaya Vittala Temple, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Zoological Park.

Spend some time at Hampi to understand and study the ruins of Hampi and its glorious historical past.

Day 2 – Aihole

vastu chitra aihole

Vastuchitra Aihole

The next nearest destination to be planned can be Aihole. Just 140 km away from Hampi, Aihole takes about 2 and a half hours to reach by road. A cluster of around 120 temples from the 4th century AD, Aihole is a historic site along the Malaprabha river valley in Northern Karnataka. Aihole is a delight to visit for those interested in history, archaeology, architecture, heritage, and ancient temples. The most popular and the face of Aihole is the Durga Temple. A cluster of temples mainly comprises Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist temples. The Durga temple complex also has an art gallery and an archaeological Museum which should not be missed. There is a collection of exquisite antiques excavated from the region. Contrary to its name, Lad Khan Temple showcases the iconography from Shaiva, Vaishnava, and Shakti or Durga traditions of Hinduism. Also known as the ‘cradle of Indian Rock Architecture’, Aihole was the first capital of Chalukyas, who ruled the north Karnataka region. The temples are now being conserved and protected by the Archaeology Survey of India. A 6th-century rock-cut Ravana Phadi Cave that houses Shiva and Parvathi is another attraction not to be missed. The caves consist of intricate craftsmanship featuring Lord Shiva, Parvathi, Ganesha, and Lord Vishnu. The other famous temples are Garudagudi, Chakragudi, Ambigaragudi, Rachigudi, Kuntigudi, Hallibasappa Gudi, Badigargudi, Trimbakeshwar temple, Mallikarjuna Temple, and Jyotirlinga Temple.

Day 4- Badami

Badami Cave Temple

Formerly known as Vatapi and serving as the capital of Chalukyas, Badami was constructed between the 6th and 8th centuries. Located in the district Bagalkote headquarters, Badami invites tourists, travellers, researchers, and all those who love history and heritage for its sandstone cave temples and carvings. The stunning and mesmerizing backdrop of Agastya Lake and cave temple landscapes, these monuments are of great historical importance and invite photography enthusiasts. Another attraction not to be missed near Badami is the Bhutanatha temple complex. Just a kilometre away from the main Badami cave temples, these clusters of sandstone shrines were built over a period from the 7th to 11th century AD.

KABH13 tour was a memorable event, we enjoyed the tour as a family, the hotels were good and the food quality excellent, the management of tour manager Balaji, and Vinay was up to the mark ( excellent),they were very polite to all of us thank u both, We will be always with Veena World henceforth Thanks 😊 Dr Hurne Subhash Mrs. Shobha Hurne

Veena world arranged for us one of the best trips ever. we laughed and enjoyed throughout the whole trip. the personal attention to every traveller was extraordinary. Our tour managers, Balaji Kamble and Vinay Kolge were very friendly, cooperative, professional and competent. They managed the whole tour very well . The food was delicious and the hotel accommodations made by the tour were very good for the trip . I will most certainly travel with Veena world in the future.

Feedback regarding Hampi,Badami , halebidu tour : Dear Madam Veena, This was my first tour with Veena world and it was memorable. I had searched many travel agencies for this package and could find one only with Veena World. The visit to various monuments in karnataka was wonderful, with well informed guides at each place. Mr Mahendra Wadkar and Mr.Jayesh Pawar were extremely courteous, responsible and they took utmost care of all the tourists. It was like a family travelling together. Both the tour managers during long bus travels kept us entertained with interesting anecdotes, various games. I was fasting on Monday and they went out of the way to arrange fruits etc. Both were always energetic and smiling .I would love to travel again with Veena world. Only one place- Pavanputra resort in Hassan was not upto the mark in terms of cleanliness and service. Regards Dr.Swati Makashir

About Hampi Badami

Hampi At Hampi, the past come alive, Whispering winds, magnificent ruins, travel and scents of a bygone era all linger fresh here. And they virtually transport you to a world of kings, battle and long forgotten marvels. Welcome to the world’s largest open-air museum – Hampi Karnataka. Hampi was the capital city of the magnificent Vijayanagar Empire. Founded by Harihara and Bukka in 1336, it fell to the rulers of Northern India in 1565 after the Battle of Talikota, and subsequently lapsed into decline and abandonment. The once-proud city of victory is now a city of desolation. However, the ruins of these historical monuments have stood the ravages of man and time and still evoke memories of regal splendour.

Hampi – amidst an awesome boulder strewn landscape along the banks of the Tungabhadra River, Hampi was one of the glittering showpieces of India’s might in the 15th century. There were opulent palaces, marvelous temples, massive fortifications, baths, markets, aqueducts, pavilions and stables for royal elephants. The city’s merchants traded in diamonds, pearls, fine silks, rocades, horses and much more. Most of the important structures and ruins are located in two areas, which are generally referred to as the Royal centre and the sacred centre contains structures that seem to have been primarily for ceremonial use. What to see:- Virupaksha Temple, Ganesh Images, Laxminarasimha, Badavilinga, Elephant Stables, Pushkarni, Lotus Mahal, Vijay Vitala Temple, Stone Chariot, Hazara Rama Temple, Mahanavami Dibba, Queen’s Bath, Krishna Temple.

Badami Badami, formerly known as Vatapi, is a town and headquarters of a taluk by the same name, in the Bagalkot district of Karnataka, India. It was the regal capital of the Badami Chalukyas from 540 to 757 AD. It is famous for its rock cut structural temples. It is located in a ravine at the foot of a rugged, red sandstone outcrop that surrounds Agastya lake. Badami has been selected as one of the heritage cities for HRIDAY – Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana scheme of Government of India.
