With summer just around the corner, June is an excellent time to visit Spain.

The long sunny days, festivals, and low-ish crowds are just a few of the reasons Spain is one of the hottest destinations in Europe in June — something I’ve learned from spending half a dozen summers in Spain.

June is an ideal time to travel to Spain to go to the beach, visit hot tourist spots like the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, or head to the mountains before the high season (and hot weather) begins.

In this guide, I’ll break down everything you need to know about going to Spain in June — June weather, the best places to go and things to do in Spain in June, Spain’s best festivals in June, June travel tips, things to pack in June, and more!

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Is June a Good Time to go to Spain?

travel to spain in june

Yes, June is a good time to visit Spain. Being the start of the summer season, the weather isn’t too hot in June. Plus, the worst of the rainy season has passed.

Plenty of fun summer activities like public festivals, sunbathing, hiking, and watersports are also already underway.

Lastly, visiting Spain in June is the last chance to avoid the crowds in Spain’s hottest destinations before the high season sets in during July and August.

What’s the Weather Like in Spain in June?

travel to spain in june

On the whole, temperatures in Spain in June are comfortable for walking around for hours exploring. You can expect an average range between 70 °F (21 °C) to low 80s °F (25 °C).

However, you can expect some variations in temperature between the northern region, interior, and coasts during the month of June.

For example, you may find warmer weather inland and in Andalusia, Spain’s southernmost region. Temperatures near Madrid can reach the low 90’s °F (32 °C).

On the other hand, the northern region is typically a bit cooler, around 65 °F (18 °C). The coasts are slightly cooler as well.

Luckily, rain is unlikely in June in Spain, especially after June 9. The Spanish actually have a saying, “ Hasta el cuarenta de mayo no te quites el sayo,” which means “Don’t put your rain gear away until May 40.”

Weather in Barcelona in June

If you’re interested in visiting Barcelona, June is a great time to schedule a vacation. On average, the temperature in Barcelona in June is 80°F (26°C ) — but it can also drop into the low 60s (16°C ).

Another good thing about traveling to Barcelona in June is that the days will be about nine hours long. So, you’ll have plenty of time to sightsee!

Weather in Madrid in June

Madrid is typically hot in June with average temperatures reaching 86°F (30ºC) — the typical high is 82°F (28°C).

Fortunately, there are plenty of indoor activities you can do during the hottest time of the day like visiting Madrid’s “big three” art galleries.

Weather in Seville in June

Seville is fun to visit in the summer, but at 90°F (32ºC), plan to pace yourself while visiting the main attractions. Long lunches under cafe umbrellas are a must!

Where to Go in Spain in June

With its sandy beaches, dazzling cities, resort towns, and everything in between, Spain is an extremely popular summer destination. While some of the best places to visit in Spain in June involve cities to visit before they get too crowded, others are lesser-known gems.

1. Alicante

Consider heading to Alicante for some sun and sea in June. The Mediterranean port city is worth a stop for a day or two to enjoy the city beach and take a trip to the Santa Barbara Castle, which sits atop a massive rocky peak.

Once you’ve explored the city, June may be your final opportunity to get a deal on a resort stay on the coast before the prices go up and the crowds settle in for the summer.

You can even take in some adventures like parasailing in Alicante !

Alternatively, rent a car and head to a Spanish villa on the Costa Blanca for the week. Spend your time away from the crowds searching for hidden gems like the Playa de la Granadella.

2. Barcelona

travel to spain in june

If you have your heart set on Barcelona, visit in June before the city gets too hot and crowded.

Of course, Parque Güell is always worth the trip. Visiting the cool interiors of the La Sagrada Familia , Casa Batlló , and La Pedrera-Casa Milà is wise during the heat of the day.

You can also visit Barcelona’s city beach for a few hours to cool down.

If you have time, we suggest exploring outside of Barcelona, too. The Costa Brava has small, tranquil bays that are perfect for swimming.

Or, head south to Sitges, just an hour from Barcelona by train — you’ll love the relaxing vibe, whitewashed houses near the port, and the lush landscape surrounding this seaside town.

Andalusia’s capital Seville (Sevilla) is a fabulous destination year-round. Yet, it does get swelteringly hot in the height of summer!

Visit in June where you can take a trip to Alcazar , a well-maintained example of Mudejar architecture, go to the top of the Cathedral, and cruise the Guadalquivir River .

When you’re ready to head indoors, consider a flamenco show with dinner (or a flamenco class!).

4. Mallorca

travel to spain in june

It’s easy to see why Mallorca (Majorca) is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Mediterranean Europe. This perfect Spanish island has it all: sandy beaches, limestone mountains, and a rich culinary and cultural heritage.

Head to the beach before it gets too hot and crowded later in the summer. Beach resorts or villa rentals are both great options, depending on your preference.

When you’re ready to hit the water, Mallorca has a ton of watersports on offer like windsurfing, parasailing , and scuba diving.

Of course a catamaran tour with tapas is the perfect way to spend a sunny summer day! ( See the top boat tours in Mallorca! )

But the beach isn’t all Mallorca is famous for. Feel free to head to the Serra de Tramuntana mountains for hiking and biking, out for a scenic drive along the Cap de Formentor, to Mallorca’s wine region for a winery tour , or to explore the Roman and Moorish ruins by renting a car in Mallorca .

5. Asturias

travel to spain in june

If you really want to avoid the crowds, consider lesser-known beaches in Asturias on the Atlantic coast. Located between the Atlantic Ocean and a mountain range (cordillera Cantabrica), temperatures in summer average around 73 °F (23 °C) with highs around 73 °F (28 °C).

With gorgeous white cliffs, emerald water, and plentiful hiking trails, it’s undoubtedly one of the best places to visit in Spain in June.

If sunbathing is your jam, you’ll find plenty of spots to take in the rays amid the rocky coves. But, if surfing is more your speed, the waves and wind along this part of the Cantabrian coast make it a great spot for surfing.

No visit to Asturias is complete without trying the famous Spanish cider ( sidre) .

Best Things To Do in Spain in June

Spain offers endless experiences with something to see and do and see for every type of traveler. From lazy days in the sun to stuffing your face with tapas, you’ll find plenty of things to do in Spain in June!

1. Go to the Beach

travel to spain in june

If you’re looking for a relaxing holiday, June is the perfect month to sunbathe at the beach in Spain! Warm and sunny, yet not unbearably hot, some destinations will even provide you with 11 hours of sun!

Expect 79°F (26°C) on average for beaches in Spain in June with some fluctuations. For example, here are the average temps at some of Spain’s most awesome beach destinations:

  • Marbella: 82°F (27°C)
  • Mallorca: 79°F (26°C)
  • Ibiza: 79°F (26°C)
  • Canary Islands: 78°F (25°C)

Since peak beach season doesn’t start until July , June’s your last chance to hit popular beaches before it gets too crowded.

2. Participate in Watersports

travel to spain in june

Swimming and sunbathing are relaxing activities you can enjoy in Spain during the first official month of summer.

However, if you want to get your adrenaline pumping, Spain’s coastal towns and islands offer a vast array of water sports: surfing, parasailing, kitesurfing, kayaking, and scuba diving to name a few.

Tarifa in the southern Cádiz region is especially known for its excellent surfing conditions, propelled by the strong winds in the region. Kitesurfing lessons are extremely popular .

3. Do Outdoor Activities

travel to spain in june

There are many opportunities for adventure travel enthusiasts in Spain.

Whether you’re looking for a day hike or something more strenuous like mountain biking or canyoneering, there are some excellent natural areas and national parks to explore in Spain in June.

For instance, Doñana National Park and Desierto de Tabernas Natural Area are two places worth a visit.

An excellent time to walk the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage trail is the month of June. It’s warm enough to enjoy without having to worry about carrying cool weather gear and likely to be dry after the rainy season. (I walked the Camino in June and July.)

Plus, in July and August, the trails will be more crowded than in June.

4. Learn Flamenco in Andalusia

travel to spain in june

Flamenco dancing is a vital part of traditional Spanish heritage. With roots in southern Spain, the country’s national dance is now known worldwide as a representation of Spanish life.

When visiting either the interior or southern Spain, we recommend an evening indoors to watch Flamenco dancing with dinner.

Here are the top-rated flamenco shows for popular cities in Spain:

  • Barcelona: Flamenco Show at Tablao Flamenco Cordobes  (4.5 ⭐, 610+ Reviews)
  • Madrid Essential Flamenco Admission Ticket   (5 ⭐, 500+ Reviews)
  • Seville: Tapas & Flamenco Tour  (5 ⭐, 550+ Reviews)

If you prefer to get in on the action, many places offer flamenco dance lessons.

5. Eat Tapas

travel to spain in june

Tapas are good any time of year. Eating tapas, an array of “small bites” with a group of friends is the ultimate way to enjoy your time in Spain.

Once the sun goes down, set up at an outdoor cafe for the evening. Order a few rounds of shareable tapas and relax the way the Spanish do! Charcuterie boards, patatas bravas , and fresh seafood are all excellent choices

Traveler Tip: Each region in Spain specializes in its own cuisine. If you’re not sure what to order, ask your waiter for recommendations so you can taste the best of each region!

Consider ordering a glass of traditional sangria, too!

Festivals and Events During June in Spain

June is filled with national and regional festivals taking place in Spain. These parties are what Spain is famous for, and getting to experience at least one of them in your lifetime is a must!

Here are some bucket list-worthy events to catch while traveling in Spain in the month of June:

1. Battle of Wine in Haro, La Rioja (June 28-30)

Housing hundreds of vineyards, La Rioja is one of the best (and most famous) wine-growing regions of the country.

But exporting wine isn’t the only thing La Rioja is known for. Each year on June 29th, the town of Haro holds a Batalla de Vino . This epic “wine fight” of Haro should definitely be on your bucketlist!

The Battle of Wine is a celebration in which people drench each other with wine! Of course, there are lots of other celebratory things going on — traditional bullfights and processions, to name a few.

The tasty fight descends down the mountain and moves to the Haro town center for an evening you’ll never forget.

2. The Bonfires of Saint John, Alicante (June 20-29)

travel to spain in june

Las Hogueras de San Juan (Bonfires of Saint John) is held annually between June 20-29.

The party celebrates the coming summer solstice. Over 200 paper mache monuments are built before being burned to the ground! A number of activities, music performances, fireworks, and other celebrations also take place this week.

On the Noche de San Juan (June 23), families and friends of all ages spend the night at the beach, setting bonfires. Traditionally, the bonfires represent the warding off of evil spirits and the protection of loved ones.

After saying a prayer as the bonfires light up the sky, enjoy barbecues and treats on the open campfire with friends.

3. La Patum de Berga (June 19-23)

This typical Catalan folk festival takes has been taking place since the 14th century in Berga, just 90 minutes drive from Barcelona.

Taking place June 19-23, the streets of Berga become crowded with colorful theatrical performances that include live bands, fire, and lots of dancing.

You certainly can’t miss the fat-headed giants dancing in the streets!

Originally a pre-Christian celebration of the summer solstice, La Patum de Berga now coincides with the Corpus Christi celebrations by the Catholic Church. You will observe all sorts of bizarre-looking characters and intricate symbolism representing Catalan (and Spanish) history.

The festival is an excellent opportunity to enjoy Catalan food, celebration, and unique cultural experiences.

4. Romería de El Rocío, Huelva

travel to spain in june

Romería de Rocio is held 50 days after Easter on Pentecost Sunday, typically falling in June.

Held in the southern region of Spain, individuals and families from nearby towns and cities head to El Rocío to pay homage to the Virgen del Rocío.

Townspeople lovingly decorate their horse and carts with bright colors and flowers for the procession.

As for themselves, women dress in gypsy-inspired flamenco dresses while men wear traditional short-cropped jackets and wide-brimmed bolero hats. All the while, they sing traditional folk songs when they travel.

El Rocío Pilgrimage is one of Andalucia’s largest religious festivals and has been celebrated for over 800 years.

5. The Corpus in Toledo

travel to spain in june

The Corpus Christi festival attracts visitors from all over the world each June.

Although the festival is celebrated in several cities, Toledo is an especially fun celebration to attend.

The procession — which includes military, religious, and civil folk — lasts around three hours, beginning from the Cathedral Primada and winding through some of the most emblematic streets of Toledo.

If you prefer to avoid the crowds during Corpus, we suggest visiting Toledo in the days just before to enjoy the beautiful decorations and flowers that adorn the streets and awnings.

Tips for Visiting Spain in June

Although June isn’t generally considered “high season” in much of Spain, the nice weather, festival calendar, and miles of pristine beaches make it one of the most popular months of the year to visit.

  • Wear sunscreen — Whether you’re on the beach, in the city, or in the mountains, the sun is already strong in June
  • Attend festivals — There are several festivals that take place in Spain in the summer beyond the ones mentioned in this article
  • Book in advance — Accommodation, tickets, and day tours tend to sell out during the summer months. Book in advance so you don’t miss out

Take a siesta — Take a break from being outdoors during the hottest time of the day during the late afternoon siesta from 2-4 pm

What to Pack for Spain in June

When packing for Spain in June, think light, breathable fabrics that can comfortably be layered, especially if you plan on spending most of your day out and about.

TRAVEL TIPS

1. pre-high season perks: make the most of june’s days.

ibiza spain coast pretty beach

The lower prices than in July and August make June one of the ideal months to travel! In addition, walking in the middle of the day in inland cities such as Madrid, Córdoba, or Seville in July or August is almost impossible. So June is your last chance to do it.

Crowds are also less frequent in bigger cities since the high season starts in early July.

I know that picture of Ibiza caught your attention, but hear me out: This is the absolute LAST chance to visit the Islands before they get packed with visitors (and party people). So, if you’re young and want to have fun in the sun while experiencing the hype of the Spanish Islands, here’s a guide that can help you decide which one is for you:

Also, discounts and great offers begin the last week of June. Clothing stores like Zara, shoe brands like Castañer, makeup stores like Sephora, and almost every shop have summer discounts. So, it’s a perfect place to enjoy a leisurely walk in the streets. These are the best spots for finding great deals:

2. Embrace the Light: Longer Days and Memorable Nights

pedraza velas inigo y jimena

As Summer settles in the country, days are longer and nights are shorter. We also have the blessing of clear blue skies during this period. You will never see a dull day, and the streets will be filled with joy.

During these days, the sun in Madrid rises at 6:53 AM. The sunset, on the other hand, is currently late at 9:47 in the evening, which gives you enough time to do as many activities as you wish. This is one of the main reasons I love our Mediterranean Summer so much, and I wouldn’t change a thing!

And, if you’re staying until early July and want to finish your vacation strong on a lovely date night with your partner, you can’t miss visiting Pedraza for the “Night of Candles.” It is usually held on the first and second Saturday of July.

The beauty of this party comes around 10:00 PM when the sun’s down, and they light 55,000 candles throughout the town and turn off the lights. Jimena and I did this last year, and it was such an unforgettable experience. I really recommend it.

3. Roman Fun in Lugo: Experience Arde Lucus Festivities

Do you like Roman movies? Just one excursion to Lugo will make you feel like you’re inside one of those productions, and you don’t have to be a history buff to have an amazing time.

The Arde Lucus festival commemorates the founding of the city of Lugo by reviving its Roman past. For three days, Lugo becomes “ Lucus Augusti ,” a prominent city in  Roman Gallaecia  where all recreational and cultural activities occur.

Everyone takes over the streets dressed in Roman or Castro clothing to pretend we have returned a few centuries.

I really encourage you to take a trip to this town in June, as it is also a great way to experience Spain’s culture and dig into those hidden customs and traditions that are often undervalued and shadowed by the parties in Mallorca, or the running of the bulls, to name a few.

4. Corpus Cristi Celebrations: Spain’s Warm Welcome

virgen del pilar de zaragoza corpus cristi

Corpus Christi comes from Latin and means “Body of Christ.” It is a feast of the Catholic Church to celebrate the presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

The feast of Corpus Christi doesn’t have a definite date. Still, it is celebrated every year sixty days after Easter Sunday. Usually in June.

The Eucharist is a sacrament where the blood and body of Christ are consecrated to be shared among the faithful believers attending mass. Its main objective is to remember the body and blood of Christ through the Blessed Sacrament. This is, for Catholics, a symbol of reconciliation.

These are the 3 most outstanding Spanish regions where Corpus Christi is celebrated in a unique way: Toledo, Pontevedra, and Salamanca.

5. Pyrenean Delights: Soak Up the Spirit of Las Fallas

Las Fallas in the Pyrenees is a traditional festival, declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity, in which people recreate the tradition of gratitude for the harvests and the arrival of good weather with nocturnal bonfires.

This date is the one they wait for to ignite Fallas, Haros, and Brandons. You will also see people going down mountains with burning torches and dances and rituals around the fire to light up the long night.

The Fallas of Lleida included in the UNESCO list are those of Boí, Taüll, Erill la Vall, Barruera, Durro, El Pont de Suert, Llesp, Casós, Vilaller, and Senet, in the region of the Alta Ribagorça; Arties and Les, in the Val d’Aran; Isil and Alins, in Pallars Sobirà, and La Pobla de Segur, in Pallars Jussà.

6. Midsummer Magic: Experience Bonfires on La Noche de San Juan

This special festivity, typical of Alicante, occurs every year between June 20 and 24.

Historically, this celebration has been associated with the birth of Saint John the Baptist by Christianity and the ancient agricultural festivals of pagan origin held before the arrival of the summer solstice.

These parties share many of the features that define the well-known Fallas of Valencia:

  • Parades and concerts
  • Burning of ninots and mascletás
  • Offerings of flowers

However, the most famous and impressive takes place during the night of San Juan, where almost 100 bonfires are lit and witness cheers throughout the night.

It is an authentic festival of Spanish culture with privileged views of the Mediterranean, and you will not regret it if you add it to your list of activities for June.

7. Experience Spain’s Lively Music Festivals

Spain does not stop. Every week, there is a party in some corner of the country, and they’re more than a regular party. During June, the best music festivals begin to be seen for those who want to come to confirm that Spain is a very partying and laid-back country.

With an unbeatable selection, the best national and international bands come to our country to make us have a better time than ever.

One is the famous and expected Primavera Sound, which takes place in the largest cities like Barcelona and Madrid; they are known for having the best venues and artists to offer unforgettable experiences.

8. Enjoy Spain’s Pleasant Summer Weather

parc de la ciudatella in barcelona spain

June in Spain is a pretty sweet deal, my friend. The weather starts warming up nicely, so you can expect great vibes! (although we always have good vibes here)

We’re talking temperatures ranging from comfortable to hot, with averages hovering around 59°F to 77°F (15°C to 25°C). Perfect time to load on vitamin D and work on your tan, as Spanish love to do!

Make sure to pack everything necessary for the weather since we are changing seasons, but the “feels like” will be warm and sunny most of the time.

Just make sure you pack your shades, sunscreen, and a hat to stay cool. Delight yourself on ice cream, don’t wear flip flops, get some cute sandals, and girls, it’s time to take those dresses and long skirts out for a walk!

9. Spiritual Journey: Embark on the Pilgrimage of El Camino

benahavis spain nature route

The Camino de Santiago is a pilgrimage route done annually by millions of pilgrims over the centuries. It starts in France and finishes in Galicia, in Santiago de Compostela.

Along the way, pilgrims encounter hostels, churches, historical monuments, and rich local culture, all of which contribute to the unique experience of the Camino de Santiago, without mentioning the incredible views and nature in the surrounding areas.

In addition to the religious aspects, many walkers find the Camino as an opportunity for personal reflection and spiritual growth and give you a chance to meet people from different countries and cultures.

Stay tuned if you’re interested in this experience because we plan to make some journeys through El Camino de Santiago! See other routes below.

And not to mention the beautiful and long beaches just a few steps away, and others just a few minutes away from the city center. What makes it a must for these dates in case you don’t decide what type of trip you want to do, if a cultural one or a beach one, you will have both here!

Also, you cannot come to Spain and not visit Madrid or Barcelona; it is a sin! You are only excused if you come in July or August because the temperatures are very high, and there are other better times to visit them.

Anyways, this is the perfect destination to start your vacation with a good atmosphere, climate, nice people, and high vibes.

madrid cibeles at night

What to say about Madrid in June? It is absolutely fantastic. Great time to enjoy warm weather without suffocating, just before peak season; Madrilians enjoy long days in terraces and bars, and people start getting out of work a bit earlier on Fridays.

The city really has a lot of charm during these dates, Retiro Park is also beautiful, and you can enjoy bike rides, walks, picnics, and stroll through the streets. At the same time, you can go shopping, taking into account the discount season, stop at a cafe, or get into a museum for free!

Madrid offers endless activities for those who plan to have a great time while traveling and discovering a new city.

Alicante Beach Walk 2023 - Les Marines (Denia) / SPAIN

Another gem is Alicante, a vibrant coastal city on Spain’s eastern Costa Blanca.

This place is known for its idyllic beaches, architecture, and rich cultural heritage. Also, it enjoys temperatures from 8°F to 82°F (20°C to 28°C) in June, so the climate is ideal for outdoor activities and relaxing at the beachside.

Some of the things you can’t miss are strolling along the iconic Explanada de España promenade, discovering the historic Santa Barbara Castle, and walking in the Old Town.

Moreover, as I mentioned earlier in the article, June marks the beginning of the bonfires with the Hogueras de San Juan festival, a spectacular celebration you can’t miss.

As for the most incredible beach spots, you absolutely must note my all-time favorites: Playa de la Albufereta, Playa del Postiguet, Playa de San Juan, Playa de Almadraba, and Playa Les Marines (in Denia).

cudillero pretty town in spain asturias

You’ve probably seen this picture before. It’s one of the most coveted spots during the summer and in Spain! Just as you hear, not in Italy or any other European country.

Cudillero is a small town and one of the most beautiful towns in Spain. It can be found in the northern region of Asturias, known for breathtaking views and astonishing nature.

I really suggest you take a trip to Asturias or one of its main cities (Oviedo, or Gijón) in June, as the weather is so pleasing to relax and have a great time compared to other places and cities where it can be boiling.

A hidden gem that often gets forgotten. It is a historic walled city in Castilla y León and offers a stunning destination for those seeking a unique cultural experience in Spain in June.

This place enjoys slightly cooler temperatures than the rest I have mentioned, with average temperatures ranging from 59°F to 77°F (15°C to 25°C), a pleasant climate for exploring the ancient streets and gorgeous landmarks.

As I mentioned, corpus cristi is coming up this month, and in Ávila, it is celebrated in a very vibrant way.

You can visit the iconic Avila Cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, explore the Convent of Saint Teresa, and enjoy delicious food and a quiet atmosphere to discover corners of Spain that are not so busy.

seville city warm weather

The temperature in Spain in June varies depending on where you are and the region. This is why I am leaving you a table with the average temperature in March for the different areas for more accuracy.

Please note that these temperatures are an average and can vary from year to year. So don’t forget to check the weather map when you are closer to the day of travel!

You can expect cooler temperatures in the North (Galicia, Asturias, and Basque Country) since they have mild summers and somewhat high rainfall.

The real Mediterranean summer can be found on the eastern and southern coasts, including (Catalonia, Valencia, and Andalucia); you should expect scorching and dry days, with temperatures often exceeding 86°F (30°C).

Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha also have hot days, with temperatures surpassing 95°F (35°C). At the same time, the Canary Islands have warm temperatures throughout the year, similar to the Balearic Islands, where the temperature is ideal for beach activities.

Whether you’re seeking sunny beach days, lively city experiences, or mountain exploration, Spain offers diverse climates to suit every preference.

So, don’t hesitate to visit this beautiful country in June, right before the high season, with fewer crowds and better temperatures than in July and August.

Weather in Spain in June: A Guide to Spain’s Regions

Spain in June is when the party really begins. Beach clubs roll out lounge chairs, seasonal hotels reopen their outdoor pools, summer vacation begins in some parts of the world and tourists arrive to enjoy the sunshine and Spanish culture.

This is a wonderful time of year to visit Spain, especially if you are interested in the beaches of the Costa del Sol , the coastline of Costa Blanca , or the northern cities of Bilbao and San Sebastian.

It’s still not too hot around the country, but it’s warm enough to hike the Cami de Ronda and dry enough (mostly) to start the Camino de Santiago . It’s ideal weather to get into the mountains and it’s still quiet enough to get to the beaches before the July and August high season truly begins.

This guide to the weather in June in Spain will give you the low-down on what to expect from some of the most popular summer destinations in Spain.

A Quick Overview of the Weather in Spain in June

June brings with it stunning weather and festivities across Spain. You can expect warmer temperatures, minimal rainfall, and cooling sea breezes.

  • Average Temperature : Typically, temperatures vary across Spain in June with pleasant highs of more than 20°C (68°F) in the northern locations and around 28°C (82°F) in the southern regions.
  • Precipitation : June is one of the driest months in the country. Central regions see around 30 mm with southern shores only seeing about 12mm of rain.
  • Sea Temperature : The refreshing waters of the Mediterranean warm up to around 20°C (68°F) and even as high as 25°C (74°F) in some places.

June in Spain opens up all kinds of outdoor possibilities, from languid beach days to cultural explorations amid historic cobblestone streets. The days are the longest of the year, so you can expect to see people filling the parks and outdoor tables at bars all evening long.

Barcelona: Radiant Weather in Spain in June

Barcelona in June is a fantastic time of year to visit the city. You can explore fun food tours in Barcelona , which are particularly fun at night when they turn into tapas bar crawls.

June in Barcelona is alive with culture, a time when Gaudi’s architectural wonders seem to come to life and the Mediterranean is lined with bronzed bodies. But beware, the tourists are flocking in their masses as cruise ships make their descent on the Catalan capital.

  • Average Temperature : Barcelona in June boasts mild and pleasant temperatures, with daytime highs around 27°C (81°F).
  • Precipitation : June sees minimal rainfall with less than 20 mm over 3 days of average rain.
  • Sea Temperature : The Mediterranean becomes a haven for swimmers with average sea temperatures of 21°C (71°F).
  • Activities : Dive into the city’s creative spirit by exploring the eclectic street art scene in the Poblenou neighborhood or indulging in a picnic at the Parc de la Ciutadella, where locals gather under the shade of ancient trees. For a taste of Barcelona’s culinary diversity, venture into the Gracia district’s hidden gems, where local tapas bars serve up flavors that go beyond the typical tourist fare.

Explore the stunning beaches in Basque Country, starting with San Sebastian.

Northern Spain: Verdant Havens

Northern Spain with its mountains, stunning beaches, and epic hiking trails offers the perfect backdrop for exploration.

Mild temperatures create an idyllic setting for discovering lush landscapes, charming coastal towns, and historic sites. As the region experiences moderate rainfall, the scenery comes alive with freshness, inviting travelers to indulge in the green beauty of Asturias, explore the Basque Country’s culinary delights, and hike along the Camino del Norte .

  • Average Temperature : Revel in mild temperatures of around 22°C (72°F).
  • Precipitation : June brings a touch of freshness with moderate rainfall over 9 days, averaging around 54mm.
  • Sea Temperature : Coastal areas invite exploration with refreshing sea temperatures around 18°C (64°F).
  • Activities : Embrace the region’s natural wonders by spending a few (or many) days on a coastal hike along the Camino de Santiago, where the lush landscapes of Basque Country and Asturias unfold in all their glory. I loved the coastal towns of Zumaia and Zarautz in particular. For a serene retreat, explore the charming fishing villages along the Costa Verde , where time seems to slow amidst the rhythmic ebb and flow of the Atlantic.

Málaga and the Costa del Sol

Málaga and the Costa del Sol call you closer in June with a coastal charm that captivates every traveler. Enjoy the stunning beaches in Malaga , hike the Caminito del Rey, one of the best day trips from Málaga , or head to nearby towns like Marbella or Torremolinos.

  • Average Temperature : Immerse yourself in the balmy coastal temperatures with highs around 28°C (82°F).
  • Precipitation : June graces the region with minimal rainfall with only 12mm of rain over the entire month.
  • Sea Temperatur e: Dive into the inviting Mediterranean waters with temperatures around 23°C (71°F).
  • Activities : The Costa del Sol in June is all about enjoying the top things to do in Málaga , getting out to the epic beaches of Cabo de Gata , and exploring all of the cool neighborhoods in Málaga to eat Tapas. It’s the perfect temperature to be outside most of the day, just be sure to pack your sunscreen!

Bring lightweight clothes in light colors because the heat has definitely arrived to Spain in June.

Valencia in June

June is a perfect time of year to relax on the beaches of Valencia and explore all of the little towns that are easy day trips from Valencia like Sagunto, Xativa, and Buñol. It’s not too hot for climbing the hills to all of the nearby castles, but it’s more than warm enough to enjoy lazing on the beach and swimming in the Mediterranean.

  • Average Temperature : Enjoy the summer temperatures in Valencia which hover around 28°C (82°F). If you want to run or cycle in Turia Park, it’s that time of year when you need to wake up earlier or stay up a little later (the Spanish prefer the latter option).
  • Precipitation : June in Valencia means minimal rainfall with only 18mm of measurable precipitation.
  • Sea Temperature : Enjoy swimming or simply floating in the Mediterranean’s warming waters at around 26°C (76°F).
  • Activities : June in Spain means you have daylight well into the evening. Enjoy an evening bike tour that takes you through the Centro Historico, around El Carmen, through Turia park, and shows off the City of Arts and Sciences as the sunsets behind it.

Madrid in June

While there is never a bad time to visit Madrid, the city comes to life even more as summer begins. With warm temperatures and minimal rainfall, Madrid becomes a hive of evening activity around the literary quarter’s funky bars and tapas restaurants.

Retiro Park is a popular spot to explore both during the day and as the sun begins to set (there are tapas bars there too!).

  • Average Temperature : Experience the capital in June with warm temperatures around 28°C (82°F).
  • Precipitation : Encounter minimal rainfall with clear skies only bringing around 26mm.
  • Activities : Beyond the well-trodden paths, find solace in the sprawling Retiro Park, where locals gather for picnics, paddleboat rides, and open-air performances. There are so many amazing neighborhoods in Madrid to explore whether it’s Barrio de las Letras, Malasaña, or La Latina. These three in particular are packed with some of my absolute favorite tapas bars in Madrid and with the long, warm evenings, June in Spain is the best time to enjoy them.

The esplanade in Alicante is one of my favorite places to spend time when I’m there, especially around sunset.

Alicante: Sunny Retreat in Spain in June

While Alicante is, of course, one of the warmest places in Spain in winter , it’s also a summer retreat that you will love.

There are endless beaches in Alicante region and indeed the entire Costa Blanca in general should be explored fully. June in Spain is a great time to rent a car and drive along the coastline.

But it’s not just about the beaches. There are tons of things to do in Alicant e and around this region in June before it gets too hot and oppressive. There are hikes to enjoy, coastal walks that are less strenuous but no less beautiful, and tons of historical sites to explore even right in downtown Alicante.

  • Average Temperature : Temperatures in Alicante in June tend to be around 28°C (82°F)
  • Precipitation : June in Alicante has minimal rainfall of less than 10mm across the entire month.
  • Sea Temperature : Dive into the inviting waters of the Mediterranean with temperatures around 23°C (73°F).
  • Activities : Don’t miss out on exploring Barrio de Santa Cruz, where narrow cobblestone streets lead to quaint squares adorned with bold bougainvillea at this time of year. Indulge in local flavors at the bustling Mercado Central, where the aroma of fresh produce and seafood will have your stomach grumbling even if you’ve just eaten. For a serene retreat, explore the Castle of Santa Barbara, perched atop Mount Benacantil, providing panoramic views of the city and the Mediterranean Sea. Alicante’s coastal allure extends beyond the beaches, inviting you to unwind in the Explanada de España, where palm-lined promenades and outdoor cafes create a laid-back atmosphere. It’s particularly beautiful at sunset.

Almería: Arid Elegance

June is perhaps the only summer month that I recommend booking a trip to Almeria. Unless of course, you love dry scorching desert heat. Almeria swarms with tourists in July, August, and September, but they are also the hottest months in Almeria.

In June, you can expect perfect beach temperatures, great water temperatures, and the ideal setting for exploring the beaches, restaurants, and culture of this region of Andalucia .

  • Average Temperature : Expect warm temperatures with highs around 28°C (82°F).
  • Precipitation : June in Almeria has minimal rainfall of around 8mm.
  • Sea Temperature: Enjoy water temperatures of 22°C (70°F).
  • Activities : Explore the unique terrain of Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park, where rugged coastlines, pristine beaches, and dramatic cliffs offer a haven for nature enthusiasts. Delve into the city’s rich history by wandering through the Alcazaba of Almeria. For a tranquil retreat, unwind on Playa de los Genoveses, a pristine beach framed by golden sands and crystalline waters. You’ll need a car to access these beaches, so be sure to pick up a rental at the Almeria Airport.

The beaches in Almeria are some of the most beautiful in all of Spain.

Seville: Flamenco Heat

Seville starts to sizzle in June. Temperatures rise along with the number of visitors to the city. But it’s still not  too hot for exploring, at least if you manage to get up early and enjoy some of the plazas before the sun reaches its height.

June in Seville is a good time to explore air-conditioned museums and sample refreshing glasses of vino de naranja or cold cañas of beer. It’s a good time of year to sample traditional Andalucian dishes like salmorejo (similar to gazpacho) and serranito sandwiches.

  • Average Temperature : Feel the heat with temperatures as high as 32°C (90°F).
  • Precipitation : Less than 8mm of rain falls in June.
  • Activities : Visit the ancient Roman city of Italica or explore coastal other day trips from Seville like the beaches of Cadiz. If you are going to visit popular Seville tourist sites like the Alcazar and the cathedral, be sure to book your tickets for first thing in the morning to not only beat the hungover tourists but to beat the heat as well. Climbing the Giralda Tower at midday is an absolute no-no at this time of year.

Ibiza: Island Bliss

June brings island bliss to Ibiza, where warm temperatures set the stage for legendary nightlife and sun-soaked days on pristine beaches. With minimal rainfall and inviting sea temperatures, Ibiza finally comes back to life in June.

If epic beach parties at Ibiza beach clubs are your idea of a perfect June in Spain, then this is the best time of year to plan your Ibiza vacation.

  • Average Temperature : Ibiza in June has pleasant temperatures of around 26°C (79°F).
  • Precipitation : You only get around 12mm of rainfall in June in Ibiza.
  • Sea Temperature : Dive into the sea with temperatures around 22°C (72°F).
  • Activities : Wander through the charming streets of Ibiza Town, where whitewashed buildings adorned with vibrant bougainvillea create a picturesque setting for exploration. This is the time to pick up your rental car from Ibiza Airport and explore the different towns in Ibiza where weekly hippie markets take place again and all of the best restaurants are back open.

Explore the stunning beaches that are the perfect weather in Spain in June.

Canary Islands: Tropical Tranquility

The Canary Islands offer tropical tranquility in June, with comfortable temperatures and limited rainfall. Explore volcanic landscapes or simply relax on sandy beaches. There are plenty of fun things to do to keep you busy on the Canary Islands in June.

  • Average Temperatur e: Embrace comfortable temperatures around 26°C (79°F).
  • Precipitation : There is usually no measurable rain on the islands in June.
  • Sea Temperature: Dive into the Atlantic waters that stay around 22°C (72°F).
  • Activities : Explore the magical landscapes of Lanzarote, where the volcanic terrain of Timanfaya National Park makes you feel like you’ve landed on the moon. Relax on the golden beaches of Gran Canaria, where the Atlantic waves provide a soothing backdrop to sun-soaked days. Immerse yourself in the lush ecosystems of Tenerife’s Teide National Park, home to Spain’s highest peak, Mount Teide. In La Palma, hike through the enchanting laurel forests of Caldera de Taburiente, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

What Else Is Happening in Spain in June?

Beyond the nuances of weather, Spain in June has tons of fantastic events and cultural celebrations that give you even more reasons to book your trip. From traditional events to contemporary art exhibitions, religious celebrations to food-focused festivals, there’s something for everyone in Spain in June.

  • Noche de San Juan : A celebration you’ll find all over Europe (and in much of Latin America, too) Dia de San Juan is the Saint’s Day of St. John the Baptist. While the actual saint day is always held on June 24th,  Noche de San Juan, or the night of San Juan is on the 23rd, the night before Dia de San Juan. From the beaches of Barcelona to the shores of Alicante, locals and visitors gather to welcome the arrival of summer with bonfires, music, and midnight swims. It’s a night of enchantment, where the boundaries between tradition and revelry blur against the backdrop of crackling fires and the lapping waves of the Mediterranean.
  • La Batalla del Vino de Haro : For an unconventional and spirited celebration, head to Haro in the La Rioja region for La Batalla del Vino . This unique festival involves participants dousing each other with wine in a joyous and exuberant battle. It’s not one of the most famous festivals in Spain , but it is one of the most fun! The streets of Haro become a canvas of deep purple stains as locals and visitors alike engage in this playful and wine-soaked celebration, turning the quaint town into a lively spectacle.
  • La Patum de Berga : La Patum de Berga , a traditional festival in the Catalonia region, is a vibrant showcase of cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO. Held in the town of Berga, this event features a series of captivating processions, including fire runs, dances, and unique performances that pay homage to the town’s history and folklore. It’s a mesmerizing display of Catalan traditions that transports spectators to another era. It depends on when the week of Corpus Cristi is, sometimes it is in June and sometimes it is in May in Spain , so always check before booking your trip to attend the festival.
  • Music Festivals in Spain : June in Spain resonates with the harmonious beats of various music festivals that cater to diverse tastes. From the electronic sounds of Sónar in Barcelona to the indie vibes of Primavera Sound in Barcelona, the country transforms into a haven for music enthusiasts.

Spain in June: Best Places to Visit

So now that you know that the weather in Spain in June is generally great throughout most of the country, the question is where to go? I totally get how difficult it can be to narrow down your itinerary so here are some ideas to inspire your trip to Spain in June.

Here are some of the best places to visit in Spain in June, based on your travel style.

Madrid – For a Culture-Filled City Break

Madrid is one of my favorite cities in Spain and it’s a great place to visit in June. The capital’s inland location means that it’s plenty warm in June, with average daytime temperatures in the low 30s Celsius (mid-80s Fahrenheit).

There are so many amazing things to do in Madrid and I highly recommend it if you’re interested in Spanish culture and art. If you need to cool off from the heat, escape to the city’s world-famous museums for some art appreciation.

There are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy, including exploring the city’s many parks and gardens. Be sure to check out Retiro Park, which has a beautiful lake where you can rent a rowboat or relax in the shade. Madrid in June is also an awesome time to explore the city’s interesting neighborhoods like La Latina, Chueca, Malasaña while the weather is pleasant.

Madrid Highlights: Free walking tour , Prado Museum , Reina Sofia Museum , Retiro Park, Royal Palace , Plaza Mayor, La Rastro, Food markets like Mercado San Miguel & Mercado San Antón

Barcelona – An Awesome Mix of Beach & City

Barcelona is another great destination to visit in June, especially as it’s by the coast. The city is known for its beautiful beaches, and the weather is perfect for swimming and sunbathing.

But what sets Barcelona apart is that it’s not just a beach city. There are also plenty of cultural attractions to explore, including the famous Sagrada Familia cathedral, the Gothic Quarter, and the Picasso Museum. The city is alive with history, unique architecture, and a vibrant vibe… and there are endless things to do, no matter your interests.

Explore the historic center, stroll along the beach and port, or discover hidden gems in this fascinating city. The best part is that Barcelona in June isn’t completely overrun with fellow tourists so you can still enjoy the bustle of the city but without the overwhelming crowds that come later in the summer.

Barcelona Highlights: Gothic Quarter, Sagrada Familia , Park Guell , Casa Batllo , La Barceloneta, Montjuic, La Rambla

Valencia – A Beautiful Coastal City

Valencia is a beautiful city located on the east coast of Spain. In June, the weather is perfect for exploring the city’s many outdoor markets and events. Valencia also has beaches and it’s now warm enough to enjoy relaxing at the beach and doing water activities.

Away from the water, you can explore Valencia’s charming Old Town. Then for a completely opposite vibe, be sure to check out the City of Arts and Sciences, which is a stunning futuristic-looking complex of museums, theaters, and aquariums.

The laid-back vibe of Valencia is very appealing in June! As it tends to be less visited with Madrid and Barcelona, this is a good option if you want to vacation in a large city but don’t love big crowds.

Valencia Must-Sees: Free Valencia walking tour , Valencia Cathedral, Mercado Central, City of Arts and Sciences, and the city’s beaches

Seville – the Exciting Andalucian Capital

Located in the heart of Andalucia, Seville is the region’s capital city and it’s just brimming with character, history, and culture.

In June, the weather here is still pleasant –meaning not too hot, as the temperatures peak at 40°C (104°F) in the height of summer!. So, in my opinion, June is the perfect time to explore the city’s many historic attractions

Seville’s delightful charm will keep you busy, whether it’s visiting the Alcazar (a stunning example of Moorish architecture), exploring the Gothic Cathedral or strolling around Plaza de España.

For more on Seville, check out our ultimate Seville travel guide .

Seville Must-Sees: Free walking tour , Seville Cathedral , Royal Alcazar of Seville , Plaza de España, the Santa Cruz Quarter, Flamenco show in Triana

Granada – For a Look at Spain’s Moorish Heritage

Another historic city in the south of Spain that is best visited in June is Granada. Once the capital of Moorish Spain, Granada is still a Spanish jewel today with tons to offer visitors.

Similar to Seville, the weather here in June is perfect for exploring the city’s many outdoor attractions, including the magnificent Alhambra and the Generalife Gardens. The pleasant weather will also make it easy to explore the winding streets of the Albaicin and Sacremonte neighborhoods. Much of Granada is set on hills (so lots of stairs and incline) so the June weather is mild enough not to tire you out.

Granada Must-Sees: Free walking tour , Alhambra , Albayzin district, Sacromonte neighborhood, Flamenco

Spanish Islands – Escape and Relax

Dreaming of an island getaway in June? Well, Spain has a number of beautiful islands , including the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands. In June, the weather is perfect for exploring these islands, which offer stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and plenty of outdoor activities.

You can’t go wrong with any of the islands but in my opinion, Menorca is a hidden gem. The smaller sister to the famous Mallorca, Menorca is the island to go to unwind and relax. In June, Menorca comes alive after a quiet low season and it’s the best time to enjoy a tranquil getaway.

Here, you’ll find stunning beaches and hidden coves, if you’re seeking some time in the sun. There are also lots of options for walks and hikes. You can also get a dose of the island’s interesting past at its big towns, Ciutadella and Mahon.

Costa del Sol – Clock in Some Beach Time

If you’re 100% ready to hit the beach, then the Spanish coast is where you wanna be!

The Costa del Sol is a beautiful stretch of coastline located in the south of Spain. In June, the weather has totally warmed up, marking it perfect for swimming and sunbathing on the many beaches in the area. Be sure to also check out the many golf courses and luxury resorts in the area.

Aside from the seaside fun, there are also some charming towns along Costa del Sol and hiking opportunities.

Here are the best Costa del Sol beaches to visit .

Costa Brava – More Stunning Beaches

The Costa Brava is another beautiful stretch of coastline located in the northeast of Spain. In June, the weather is perfect for exploring the many charming towns and villages in the area, including Cadaques and Tossa de Mar. Be sure to also check out the many outdoor activities in the area, including hiking and biking.

For the most part, rain is unlikely but still very possible, especially early on in the month and in the northern part of the country. A good way to remember this is to learn one of our favorite Spanish phrases: " Hasta el cuarenta de mayo no te quites el sayo" (literally, "don't put your rain gear away until May 40). After June 9 or so, rainy days are few and far between. Sunshine, on the other hand, becomes more plentiful later in the month, especially as you make your way south.

What to Pack

When packing for Spain in June, think light, breathable fabrics that can comfortably be layered, especially if you plan on spending most of your day out and about without heading back to your accommodations to change clothes. While the weather is generally excellent, the early mornings and late nights can still be a bit on the chilly side. As far as footwear goes, consider a pair of sandals or flats with a supportive sole, and remember that locals don’t really wear flip-flops beyond the beach. Throw in a bottle of sunscreen and a stylish pair of shades, and you’ll be ready to explore.

June Events in Spain

Summer is prime festival season, and here in Spain, locals are always ready to party. June plays host to all kinds of cultural events and celebrations all over the country, so no matter where your travels take you, you definitely won’t be bored.

  • Pentecost Sunday marks the annual Romería del Rocío pilgrimage in southern Spain, in which thousands of families and individuals head from larger cities such as Seville to the town of El Rocío in the province of Huelva. They dress in traditional flamenco-inspired outfits and sing folk songs as they travel. The date changes every year, but the 2020 event has been canceled.
  • La Patum de Berga is a quintessential authentic Catalan folk festival. Expect plenty of fire, dancing, and fat-headed giants. The 2020 event has been canceled.
  • Granada’s Festival of Music and Dance , Andalusia’s most iconic performing arts celebration, takes place from June 25 through July 12, 2020.
  • Noche de San Juan (St. John’s Eve) on June 23 is celebrated throughout the country with fireworks and bonfires. The largest celebrations take place in Catalonia and the Valencian Community (especially in Alicante).
  • Madrid Orgullo , Spain’s largest gay pride event, kicks off in the capital in June, but the 2020 event will not be held in person.
  • The Wine Battle (exactly what it sounds like—a giant wine fight. What's not to love?) takes place in Haro, La Rioja , near the end of June.

Travel Tips

  • Although June is generally not considered "high season" just yet throughout much of Spain, the nice weather, jam-packed event calendar, and thousands of miles of pristine beaches make it one of the most popular months of the year to visit. As a result, accommodation prices may start to rise this month.
  • Lines can get quite long at some of Spain's most famous attractions (such as the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona and the Alcazar in Seville ) during the summer months.

From the sunny beach of Costa del Sol to the ancient walls of Segovia and the mountains of Sierra Nevada, Spain is a wonderful destination for a summer vacation! During this month, the weather is warm but not too hot. June is also the ideal month to visit Spain before the peak of the high season. Try out a new outdoor activity, visit one of the many historical towns of Spain or simply relax at the beach.

Spain weather in June

Fishing village of Asturias,Spain

Spain is a vast country and as such it’s characterized by different climates although June is generally dry and precipitation is rare around the country. The warmest weather can be found inland. For instance, in June the temperatures in Madrid range from 25°C to 33°C, while the southwest coast is slightly colder. If you are traveling to Málaga , you can expect to find an average temperature of 25°C, making this city a great destination for those who want to sunbathe, avoiding the many tourists arriving in July and August. If you don’t like hot weather, head to the northern regions where you will find colder temperatures. For instance, in June, Bilbao has highs of 25°C and an average temperature of only 20°C.

Weather in Spain in June - Rainfall and Temperatures

Why visit spain in june.

Ibiza Island, Balearic Islands. Spain

With the advent of summer in Spain , June has great weather and offers an abundance of reasons to visit the country for all tastes.

  • Festivities and celebrations: In June you will be able to participate in several events such as the Batalla de Vino de Haro, the ‘wine fight’ of Haro. This festival is held in the city of Haro, in the north of the country, known for its wine production. During the celebration, people climb over a mountain top to then start throwing wine over each other. A unique experience worth trying! If you’re looking to meet new people and have fun, don’t miss the night of Saint John, on the 23rd of June. This evening, people spend the night at the beach with friends singing and chatting.
  • Beaches: This is also the perfect month to soak up the sun at the beach. Despite the nice weather, June is not the peak of the high season, and you will therefore be able to get some peace. If you don’t mind crowds, you can head towards the popular Costa del Sol close to Málaga. This is the last period in which you will be able to enjoy this beach without the suffocating hot temperatures of July and August, during which the area reaches 37°C!
  • Hikes and caminos: June is also the ideal month for hikes. Precipitation is rare and temperatures are warm but not too hot. You can visit one of the many national parks in the country, such as Doñana National Park, or try one of the famous Camino pilgrimage trails to Santiago de Compostela.
  • Outdoor activities: Spain abounds in natural areas and national parks. For the most adventurous, June is a great month to try out outdoor activities such as mountain biking, climbing, or canoeing. If you like surfing, you can head towards the town of Tarifa, in the Cádiz region. Here the winds are strong creating huge waves on which surfers from all over the world refine their techniques.
  • Fewer tourists: Even though you will find a few visitors, most people arrive in Spain either in July or in August. This means that you may find cheaper prices, and more availability, and you will not be surrounded by tourists everywhere you go.

Insider's Tips : Spain starts to seriously heat up in June, so my advice is to avoid the south of the country and use this opportunity to explore further north instead. The Balearic island of Mallorca would be my hot tip for a great place to catch a sea breeze in the steamy Spanish summer and to enjoy some fabulous beach time and refreshing ocean swims. Often wrongly thought of only as a package tourism island, Mallorca also provides a wealth of opportunities for the independent traveler. From amazing hiking and cycling trails in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains to amazing culinary experiences in historic, cobbled villages such as Deia and iconic drives along the Cap de Formentor, Mallorca is an epic Spanish destination that should not be missed in June... or any time of year! —  by Stephanie Parker from  Big World Small Pockets

Where to go and what to do

Windows at the Alhambra, Granada, Spain

There are plenty of things to do in Spain and places to visit in June! If you want to enjoy a relaxing holiday, head towards the sea to one of the many secluded beaches in the country. Some good options include Cala Sa Cova in Costa Brava and Playa de Silencio in Asturias. If you love nature, check out some of the country’s best national parks, for instance, the Desierto de Tabernas Natural Area, the only desert in the whole of Europe. If you truly want to get a taste of Spanish culture, make sure to spend at least seven days in the country , and visit Barcelona or Granada where you can take flamenco classes, try the delicious Spanish tapas , and explore the local architecture.

For more duration ideas, check out our guide on how many days to spend in Spain .

Spain’s temperatures in June are warm but not as hot as July and August. Unlike these months, June is not the peak of the high season and you will therefore be able to experience authentic Spanish culture away from the many tourists. Spain in June Travel: Best Destinations to Visit

The sun’s scorching hot in June, welcoming the flock of tourists for summer. The Mediterranean coast exceeds expectations as the golden sands and azure-blue waters grace the hot season.

Many travelers going to Spain in June can enjoy pleasant, warm weather, but the crowd is definitely larger than earlier months.

June is officially summer, which is the busiest season in Spain. Aside from coastal cities, tourists also head to metropolitan areas to discover the hidden gems, attractions, and popular landmarks . Traveling at this time of the year is still manageable because the number of tourists peaks in July .

From sunbathing, water sports, and a lot of exploration, visitors can have a great time because of the dry weather. Throughout the month, the sun graces all the regions, but rain showers are still likely in the first week. The northern region can have lower temperatures but the weather’s definitely warmer than spring .

Get to know the best destinations to visit , events, and Spain in June weather.

Table of Contents

The weather in June is ideal for beach trips and outdoor activities . Average temperatures in daytime is mid 70 degrees Fahrenheit to low 80s in some days.

The northern region experiences lower temperatures to 65 degrees Fahrenheit, and frequent rain showers in the afternoon.

While the sky’s clear and the weather is humid, tourists can still find it comfortable to walk for hours exploring towns and attractions. After the first week, lesser to no rain showers can be experienced, so travelers don’t need to worry .

In the central region, where Madrid and nearby cities like Toledo and Segovia are located, the weather is slightly warmer at around 80 degrees Fahrenheit to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Going around midday is still comfortable with an umbrella or sunglasses .

Some of the areas with close to extreme humidity include Costa del Sol, when the temperature can reach up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

While its hotter, people coming here can spend time swimming and surfing . Locals also warn visitors about the phenomenon called the Terral, which is a warm-weather that blows along the coast. However, Terral is more common in the months of July and August .

Where to Go

Because June in Spain feels warmer, the busiest areas are those near the beach. For travelers who hate the crowd, the places to avoid include Costa del Sol, Barcelona , Ibiza, and Majorca. There are less crowded beach destinations that are equally beautiful and serene.

From the unique rock formations scattered in Almeria, to the secluded beach of Calas Torre del Pino, visitors can enjoy the beach to themselves.

Playa de la Granadella

Playa de la Granadella

The stunning horseshoe-shaped beach in Costa Blanca is not voted as one of the beautiful beaches in the country for nothing. It’s not as crowded as other beaches in Spain, making it a perfect summer destination . Although it’s popular among locals, only a small number of visitors know about this place.

Reaching La Granadella, tourists can see the overlooking pine forests from the distance and the crystal clear waters. There are a number of establishments surrounding the beach, but a small shack by the beach is probably the best when it comes to refreshments.

Other than swimming and sunbathing, people come here for the Cabo de la Nao, overlooking the hills, ocean, and the beach. This location is recommended for cyclists to see the beauty of the ocean and the rolling hills.

For an added thrill, some people start at the Cabo de la Nao headland down to the stunning gorge and into the pine forest, before reaching La Granadella. The journey takes only less than thirty minutes, which gives more opportunities to cherish the views and nature.

Sitges Spain

Another beautiful town to visit in Spain in June is Sitges—home to scenic beaches . It’s a coastal town a little outside Barcelona’s border, which hosts a bunch of film and music festivals annually.

The gleaming waters and the green hills surrounding the town provide a relaxing vibe, appearing like a straight cut-out from a magazine.

The Platja la Bassa Ronda beach is one of the highlights of the town, along with the Catalan museum, scenic waterfront, and the 15th-century church. The Old Town centre also showcases the whitewashed houses near the port, creating a dreamy sight from the distance.

Standing on the edge of the waters is the Church of Sant Bartomeu, which has an impressive Baroque architecture. The area surrounding the church is worth exploring, leading to a couple of fisherman’s villages overlooking the sea.

A mountain range can also be found here, housing a Buddhist Monastery and abandoned villages. The Garraf Natural Park is located on the other side of town, in a small mountain range called Garraf Massif. Marked walks are in place to help visitors make their way into the park.

Monsul Beach

Monsul Beach

The rugged yet fabulous cliffs combined with the jaw-dropping landscapes make Monsul Beach a scenic summer destination. It’s definitely a remote destination but worth visiting . This undeveloped part of the Cabo de Gata National Park is famous for the fine sand and clear waters.

The unique volcanic rock formations surrounding the beach is the highlight. The view is simply relaxing, and visitors can enjoy the place without any crowd.

A hiking route is also a must-visit, which provides access to numerous beaches nearby. Rough climbs are expected, but hikers can see the spectacular views of the cliffs and the hidden beaches.

Tenerife

When it comes to picturesque islands, Tenerife is surely among the top spots. The volcanic peak of Mount Teide is a notable sight here, along with the long stretch of the beach. Tenerife is known for its thrilling nightlife and the idyllic villages.

Summer is definitely quite busy but the crowd in June in Spain isn’t huge as in Ibiza and Majorca. More than the beach, the island is also famous for small towns with magnificent history and culture. Lava tubes are also housed here, a series of tunnels formed around the lava flows.

Travelers can also enjoy exciting water sports like windsurfing, snorkeling, diving , and more. There are a lot of beaches that have stronger winds, suited for surfing.

Never leave without tasting the tapas in Tenerife, including papas arrugadas, chopitos, queso asado, and Tenerife cheese.

June Events in Spain

Part of the massive tourism in Spain in June is the exciting events and festivals. This month is considered the prime festival season, ranging from the Catalan Folk Festival to wine battle in La Rioja, and the St. John’s Eve in Catalonia.

Haro Wine Battle

Haro Wine Festival

If Buñol town has a La Tomatina festival or tomato fight, La Rioja has the Haro Wine Festival or battle during the evening of June 29. This is a huge party that involves people dousing one another with red wine in between the processions .

This is considered the giant wine fight, leaving participants soaking from precious local wines. La Rioja is Spain’s famous wine region, housing hundreds of vineyards. The fight descends down the mountain and moves to the Haro town center, where people dance and drink.

La Patum de Berga

La Patum de Berga

The bizarre sight of dancing fat headed giants only happens in La Patum de Berga, when streets become crowded with colorful theatrical performances. It’s a Catalan folk festival that has been going on since the 14th century. Fires and dances are two major elements of the festival, which is visible from the street acts.

There’s even a little festival created especially for kids, which involved a lot of dancing on the streets. The festival provides an avenue for tourists to enjoy the Catalan food, celebration, and unique experiences .

Noche de San Juan

Noche de San Juan alicante

During St. John’s eve on June 23, people gather on beaches to celebrate the coming of summer. Huge bonfires are put to place to ward off evil spirits and protect the locals from harm. A lot of people prepare food and drinks to munch on the beach with family and friends.

The Noche de San Juan is a huge celebration in Spain in June that usually ends with fireworks displays. During the day, people celebrate with a number of activities like music performances and foam parties.

June Climate Comparison (Averages) for Spain's Top Tourism Areas

The best places to visit in spain in june.

June is the start of the tourist season in Spain, with temperatures ranging from mild to warm and even hot, June falls at the beginning of Spain's long, warm summer. It's a great time of year to visit Spain and sightsee around the coastal areas, enjoy the beaches, and take in some of the incredible sights around the country.

We recommend starting your trip to Spain in June in Madrid, and then visiting Barcelona for sightseeing, and winding down in Mallorca and/or Ibiza to enjoy Spanish island life by the beach.

If you need more help putting together your ideal trip in Spain, reach out to our team of Spain experts.  Contact us to start planning your Spain trip .

1. Take a Walking Tour of Madrid and Sample Spanish Traditional Tapas

Given that most international flights come into Madrid, you will likely start your travels through Spain from there. We highly recommend spending a few days in Madrid at least, since there is a lot to see and do.

For those with a keen interest in architecture, we suggest  wandering around the city and visiting the Royal Palace of Madrid (read our piece about visiting Spain in February  for more information about the palace), the Palacio de Cibeles, the Palacio de Cristal, as well as the Plaza Mayor.

If you want to learn more about Spain's history there are the Prado Museum with a focus on art, the National Archaeological Museum, the Naval Museum, the National Museum of Romanticism, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum. With plenty of options, there's something for everyone's interest.

Afterwards check out some local restaurants for tapas. For suggestions of what to eat, visit our page about visiting Spain in March .

2. Visit the Sagrada Familia and Enjoy the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona

The Sagrada Familia is probably one of the best-known Catholic churches in the world, and is definitely worth a visit. The creation, designed by famous architect Gaudí, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and work is still being done to complete it around a 100 years later.

You are recommended to visit the church and tour the inside as well as have a walking tour around the outside, as an expert will be able to explain the beautiful decorate spires and facades. Global Highlights can help you arrange a tour of the church and the area, to ensure you don't miss out on any of the interesting history behind it.

Barcelona is also home to the Spanish Grand Prix, which is held between June 21 and 23 in 2024, with 2025 dates still to be announced. For fans of Formula 1 this is worth a visit, as the Spanish Grand Prix is one of the oldest races. Its first race was in 1913, but it was disrupted for ten years after that as a result of World War I's destruction.

3. Explore Mallorca's Sea Caves by Kayak

Beat Spain's summer heat with a visit to the island of Mallorca, a scenic Mediterranean island home to beautiful beaches and resorts and warm coastal breezes. We recommend finding a beautiful beach, and spending some time relaxing after your adventures in the rest of the country.

Caga Agulla is a beautiful blue-water beach surrounded by pine trees and mountains. There are options for water sports there, but visitors also come to swim in the clean and clear waters. On the southeast coast of the island there is Cala Santanyí, a white sand beach where you can rent a kayak and go for a paddle out.

We recommend getting a kayak and seeing the caves that surround the island, which is also a great point from which to admire the cliffs. Alternatively snorkeling is also a great way to explore the waters, and you'll see lots of colorful sea animals.

4. Party in Ibiza (or Don't Party, But Relax Instead!)

Ibiza is a Balearic Island well known for its amazing nightlife and electronic dance music, which attracts large numbers of holiday-makers in the summer. If you love dancing and music, it's worth spending some of your time in Ibiza.

However, Ibiza is also a beautiful island with lots of history and beautiful beaches, drawing tourists that prefer to sightsee and relax rather than party as well.

We suggest visiting Castell de Eivissa, and walking along to the lighthouse at Punta d'es Moscarter. There is also an interesting old defense tower called Torre de ses Portes, not too far from Cala Pluma, a beautiful beach.

The Renaissance walls of the old town of Ibiza City are also worth a visit since they are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as Sa Caleta, the remains of the first Phoenician settlers who founded a port in Ibiza in 654 BC. Following this, Ibiza was under the control of Carthage, producing dye, salt, fish sauce and wool, with trading stations along its coastline, which is part of the reason why the island flourished.

Crowds and Costs for Traveling in June

June is usually when Spain starts to get busier, with lots of tourists attracted to the dry, warm weather. Prices for accommodation are generally higher in Spain during the summer, particularly in places like Mallorca and Ibiza, so we do recommend planning ahead.

Between June 23 and 24, it is also worth noting that if you are visiting Alicante, Valencia, or other cities in Catalunya, the Festival of St. John the Baptist is celebrated and you can expect some closures throughout the cities on June 24 as it is a holiday. On the evening of June 23, you can also see some fireworks shows.

What to Wear in June

Spain's weather in June is warm and dry, and we recommend wearing light colored clothing in natural fabrics. Linen trousers and shirts are a good idea to pack, as well as summer dresses, skirts, and shorts. You likely won't need to wear a jumper or extra layer at all, with the only exception being the evenings in Madrid at the beginning of the month, where the temperature could still drop slightly to around 16°C (61°F) at night.

If you're going to the beach, swimwear is a must since the sea temperature is quite inviting for a swim in June. We do also suggest packing lots of sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses, since the days are long in June with plenty of sun.

Spain consistently ranks as one of the most-visited destinations in the world for good reason. This vibrant and multifaceted European country has attractions that resonate with every kind of traveler.

Whether you’re a culture enthusiast seeking to immerse yourself in  art and architecture , a sun worshipper looking for spectacular beaches and islands , a passionate gourmand embarking on a culinary tour  or even a spiritual adventurer wishing to retrace the footsteps of pilgrims , Spain is one of those rare destinations that offers a rich and diverse range of experiences, season after season.

Consider what you’re looking for in a visit to Spain  and plan ahead. Are you traveling on a shoestring budget? Looking for the best time to soak up the sun on a sandy coastline, or eager to feast in a harvest festival?

Here are some of the best times to visit this fascinating Iberian destination.

April to May and September to October are the best times for perfect weather

In central Spain and on the Mediterranean coast, the spring and autumn seasons are marked by sunlit days and pleasant weather perfect for strolling and outdoor dining in terrazas , with temperatures cooling down by nightfall.

Conversely, the summer months of July to August are scorching, with temperatures in central and southern Spain reaching the mid-to-high 40s°C. Madrid empties out in August , as locals go on summer holidays and many establishments close to avoid the oppressive heat. These summer months are ideal for visiting the  northern regions , such as  Asturias ,  País Vasco (Basque Country),  Galicia and  Cantabria , which have milder temperatures.

May to September is the best time to hit the beach

Spain is blessed with nearly 5000km (3107 miles) of coastline, stretching from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea. Archipelagos in the Balearic Sea and off the northwestern African coast cap off the country’s maritime allure.

When the weather starts warming up in the wake of spring, Spanish beach destinations come to life, hitting their peak in August.  Ibiza reaches its peak party atmosphere in July and August, when top DJs fly in to play in its world-famous clubs. If you wish to avoid crowded shorelines, opt for going in May and June.

April to May and September to October are the best times to walk the Camino de Santiago

The popular period for walking this thousand-year-old pilgrimage route towards  Santiago de Compostela is between May and September, for favorable weather and longer daylight hours. To avoid those busy months, opt for the spring and autumn shoulder seasons when trails are less crowded, offering a more tranquil and introspective experience.

September to October is the best time for enjoying wine-harvest festivals

Oenophiles will particularly enjoy visiting Spain’s most famous wine-making regions, such as  La Rioja and  Ribera del Duero , during the traditional harvest season that starts in September. Logroño, the capital of La Rioja, kicks off its San Mateo festival, where you can take part in grape-crushing activities, parades and, of course, exquisite wine tasting for astoundingly low prices per copa .

For an off-the-tourist-radar experience, visit Valdepeñas in the  Castilla-La Mancha region on the first week of September, when the entire town takes its love of vino to a whole new level with the annual harvest festival, featuring a wine tunnel and wine-tasting events in subterranean bodegas (wineries). There’s even a wine bus to take you home after a whole day of Dionysus worship.

November to February is the best time for budget travelers

Spain’s winter season attracts fewer tourists, so prices are generally lower on accommodations and flights. Winter can actually be a great time to bundle up and visit  Madrid and  Barcelona , which come alive with Christmas lights, outdoor markets and holiday festivities.

November to January is the best time to indulge in olive-oil festivals

The annual olive harvest season is celebrated with olive-oil festivals all over the country, especially in the regions of  Andalucía and Catalonia. How to get to Barcelona in June

Getting to Barcelona in June is easy! Especially since many direct flights from the United States open up in May and June in preparation for the busy tourist season.

From the East coast, you can take a direct flight from Dulles or Newark. You can also find flights from New York and Miami to Madrid. From Madrid, you can take a quick, 3 hour train ride to Barcelona.

If you’re coming from Europe, Barcelona is accessible by British Airways and budget airlines like Ryan Air and Vueling.

The airport is about 30 minutes from the heart of Barcelona. Taking a taxi will cost about $35 (32 euros) , depending where you’re going in the city.

Personally, taking the taxi is easiest. But, there are some buses that leave from the airport that will drop you off in some locations throughout the city. Buses are the cheapest option.

Is Barcelona safe?

Barcelona is a very safe destination for visitors and locals. Even solo travelers are welcome here. Locals are welcoming and love patrons of their boutiques, restaurants, and cafes.

The most prevalent safety problem in Barcelona is pick pocketers. Always keep your belongings safety zipped up. I wouldn't carry around many euros or valuable jewelry either.

There are a few things I try to avoid in Barcelona . An important one is not walking around alone at night. During the day, I've never felt unsafe in Barcelona!

Travel tips for visiting Barcelona

Two plates of seafood paella with mussels and shrimp served on an outdoor restaurant table in the sunlight.

  • Wear light, airy clothes and bring a sweater for chillier evenings
  • Learn how to say hello, please, and thank you Spanish or Catalan. Don’t forget that locals in Barcelona will speak Spanish and Catalan . This is a travel tip that I follow in every country I visit. If you’re not good at remembering, just write it down in your phone! Many phrases are the same or similar, but don’t be thrown off if you hear some different dialects during your trip.
  • If you’re visiting for longer than a few days, visit a Vodafone or Orange to purchase a SIM card. They only accept prepaid Euros, so bring some cash along.
  • Visit as many tapas bars as you can!
  • Visit Sitges or another beach town for the best paella
  • Don't go to Starbucks (yes, there's a Starbucks here). Instead, stop in at any of the local corner cafes for a cafe con leche (coffee and milk) or espresso.
  • Tour the famous museums like La Sagrada Familia
  • Don’t be afraid to take a Big Bus Tour if you’re short on time! It’s a great way to see your way around the entire city. You can always hop off or go back to your favorite spots.
  • Don’t forget to drink lots of wine (if you drink). It’s delicious!

Should I go to Barcelona in June?

June is a great time to visit Barcelona. The weather is incredible. Perfect for sightseeing and heading to the beach. There are festivals to attend and a variety of attractions and activities to explore.

You won’t get too hot if you want to spend the day walking around the city and you won’t be too cold hanging out on the beach during the day. All and all, June is one of my favorite months in Barcelona.

Which months can you swim in Barcelona?

The water temperatures are perfect for swimming in Barcelona from the end of May to the beginning of September. Average temperature of the water will reach 76 F (25 C) in the summer peak.

What month is best to swim in Spain?

July and August will be the best months to swim in Spain. Peak summer water temperatures reach up to 76 F (25 C), making it the warmest of the year.

What months are cheap to visit Spain?

December to March are the cheapest times to visit Spain. These are also the coldest months. February /March are the rainiest months, reaching averages of 3-4 inches of rain in the month.   While these are not the best times to visit Barcelona for a beach vacation, there’s still a variety of things to do plus, cheaper prices and few crowds!

Barcelona in June Isn’t for You If…

Visiting Barcelona in June isn't for everyone! June weather in Barcelona can be hot and humid for some people, especially if you live in a cold weather environment. Even people living in Barcelona tend to be more uncomfortable when the summer hits.

Additionally, ocean water temperatures are just warming up from the winter months. If you want even warmer weather and ocean waters, it may be best to wait until July or August.

Furthermore, this is the beginning of a busy tourist season in Barcelona. Though tourism hasn't hit its peak in June, crowds and prices are picking up.

If you're looking for a more affordable experience, June may not be the best month for you.

It's also important to note that Barcelona isn't strictly a beach town. If you want clear waters, white sand, and island vibes, stick to the Caribbean !

Lastly, if you don't like hot weather and don't want to visit Barcelona's beaches, June isn't for you! Consider visiting in the cold months. December to March marks the off-season. Prices are low and crowds are few and far between. Though things pick up a little bit for the Barcelona Christmas markets.

Just because June is my favorite month in Barcelona, doesn't mean it has to be yours! The warm weather isn't for everybody and that's okay. Barcelona offers activities and adventures all year long!

Conclusion/Final Thoughts: Visiting Barcelona in June

Overall, visiting Barcelona in June has it's pros and cons. It's an incredible time to visit for many reasons. The weather is great for experiencing everything Barcelona Barcelona has to offer - from laying on the beach and sailing through the ocean to touring the famous attractions like Sagrada Familia or museums.

It's perfect for walking miles every day searching through shops, eating delicious Spanish food and tapas on the restaurant terraces and patios, and taking advantage of the incredible nightlife in Gothic Quarter and Born.

But, if that doesn't sound like you're kind of vacation, then opt to visit Barcelona in another month.

Personally, June is my favorite month in Barcelona. I look forward to breaking out my flowy dresses and bathing suits every year. Will you be visiting Barcelona this June?

The Ultimate Spain Packing List of 2024

Here’s everything you need to pack for your Spain vacation.

travel to spain in june

Best Clothing

Best gear and accessories, best luggage.

  • Why Trust T+L

Travel + Leisure / Alli Waataja

From beaches and vineyards to bustling cities, celebrated Michelin-starred restaurants, and world-class museums, Spain offers a multi-faceted vacation that appeals to travelers of all types. And as such, packing for a trip to a destination where your activities can vary so widely from day to day and region to region can be tricky.

According to Borja Martín Guridi, chief concierge at the Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid, “there is a noticeable appreciation for both classic and contemporary fashion,” he says, adding that locals often embrace “a mix of timeless elegance and cutting-edge trends.” So if you want to blend in, don’t be afraid to mix-and-match your vacation wardrobe between high-quality basics and of-the-moment pieces that feature more eye-catching elements. This approach can also help you pack lighter, knowing that you can combine items to create a multitude of different outfits. But for any trip, the most important thing to keep in mind is how to prepare a versatile capsule wardrobe that will suit all sorts of adventures while remaining comfortable and stylish. Here are our recommendations for what to pack for a trip to Spain.

Nadia Pape, owner of the Barcelona vintage shop Los Feliz, says that style in Spain is mostly casual. “We dress for the sun, prioritizing comfort and body freedom,” she adds. To that end, for ladies, she recommends clothes that have a breezy silhouette that can make long days of sightseeing more pleasant, like silk dresses or pleated pants. And for guys, Pape suggests channeling your inner “Mister Ripley and dress in linen,” she says, adding that guys should dress with the heat in mind. “You want to stay stylish and light.”

But of course, Mother Nature is a fickle master. So it’s important to bring layering items, like a solid jacket or a warm cardigan, to ward off an unexpected cold front.

Best Daywear for Women

Eileen fisher organic linen long-sleeve t-shirt.

The breathability of a basic linen T-shirt is a peerless summer travel workhorse. It’s great for hot days, but opting for a T-shirt with full sleeves means you’re equally prepared for cool evenings and chilly airplanes.

Madewell Layton Midi Slip Skirt

What we love about this skirt is the combination of its flattering mid-calf silhouette with the easy-to-pair playful polka dots. You can wear it with a tank top for a fuss-free day of shopping, then top the outfit off with a cardigan or blazer for a smart dinner look in one of San Sebastian’s famous Michelin-starred restaurants.

Reformation Frankie Silk Dress

Reformation

Following Pape’s advice, we think this full-length slip dress from Reformation ticks all the right boxes. The psychedelic pattern makes it look more casual (you could even pair it with flip-flops), but you can easily style this to be more formal for, say, a destination wedding in Mallorca.

Everlane The Way-High® Jean

A comfy pair of jeans is an everyday hero item in a modern-day wardrobe. This high-rise pair from Everlane is great for travel thanks to the generous (but not too wide) cut and the added bit of stretch. The goes-with-everything color makes it even more of a must-have for your next trip to Spain.

Best Sweater

Faherty organic cotton fisherman cardigan.

The chunky weight of this cardigan makes it the perfect warming layer for plane rides or any other situation where it might be cooler than expected. But the casual cropped shape means you can wear it anywhere, including as a swimwear cover-up or on its own as a top with a cute pair of jeans.

Best Jacket

Onedreamer cropped safari jacket.

Nothing says “I’m ready for adventure” quite like a safari jacket. For trips to the vineyards of Priorat just outside Barcelona or for a morning hike in the Basque country, you’ll find yourself reaching for this multi-pocketed jacket. It also comes in two dozen colors.

Best Daywear for Men

Alex crane playa shirt.

Yes, you can find a linen shirt pretty much anywhere these days, but Alex Crane’s eco-friendly bonafides make the Playa Shirt our favorite. The easy-breezy French linen and the durable corozo buttons are classic details that give these shirts a wear-forever quality. There are tons of colors and patterns, but we love the eye-catching versatility of this cream-and-blue stripe.

Scotch and Soda Cotton-Linen Pleated Chinos

Scotch and Soda

Lightweight chinos in blue are a failsafe wardrobe staple. This vacation-ready pair from Scotch and Soda will look just as good with a white T-shirt for day of sightseeing as it would with the linen button-down above for a multi-course fine-dining reservation.

Banana Republic Point Sur V-Neck Sweater

Banana Republic

For days when temperatures drop, you need a solid sweater that can go with everything else in your suitcase. Enter this sexy V-neck sweater from Banana Republic. The relaxed silhouette is super modern as is the thick ribbed neckline, but the soft organic cotton makes it as cushy as a sweater you’ve had for years.

Best Shorts

Vuori pebble shorts.

This pair of mid-length shorts wins for versatility. At first glance, they’re your typical chino shorts that will go with any top you’ve packed. But they also have four-way stretch and are made of a quick drying textile, which means they’re ready for an impromptu hike or a dip in the sea.

Taylor Stitch Ojai Jacket

Taylor Stitch

A chore-style cotton jacket in dark color is the lightweight outerwear of our dreams. First, we love that it has the heavy stone wash that gives it that broken-in look and feel. Second, there are also so many convenient pockets for snacks, sunglasses, passports, tickets, etc. But as casual as this all sounds, the Ojai jacket’s sleek silhouette can still live up to a dressier moment. Pair it with a white button-down shirt and trousers for a classic-yet-modern menswear look. You can also upgrade to a wool chore jacket if you’d prefer something heavier and warmer.

Best Evening Wear for Women

Best evening dress, diane von furstenberg dorothea wrap dress.

Is there something more timelessly chic than a DvF wrap dress? We don’t think so, and we especially love the modern details on the Dorothea dress. The split flutter sleeves, the sexy surplice neckline, and the bold-but-subtle black-and-white pattern throughout make this such an easy dress to put on.

Free People Gold Rush Top

Free People

A simple sequin long-sleeve T-shirt will easily dress up everything in your suitcase. Wear this with jeans and sandals for a fun night out or with a dressier silk skirt if you’re doing something more formal (like a nice dinner). Given that this is still just a sparkly T-shirt, though, you can also wear it with shorts for a cool daytime look to maximize its versatility.

Staud Luisa Long Pleated Shorts

We love the idea of formal shorts when on vacation. And this pleated pair with a moderately wider leg from Staud is perfect for when you want to look put together but with a slight edge, especially if you add a statement belt to the mix. Pair this with the sequined top above plus a pair of strappy stilettos, and you’re ready for whatever Spanish nightlife throws at you.

Best Blazer

Veronica beard hosana linen jacket.

Veronica Beard

When it comes to modern suiting, Veronica Beard is a classic go-to. The sharp tailoring on this linen blazer is world-class, but the additional details throughout — from the silver-tone hardware to the peak lapels and the cropped length — make it all the more special. This will look great over a flirty summer dress or to create a stylish summer suit with the pleated shorts above.

Best Sleepwear

Cozy earth short sleeve bamboo pajama set.

These stretchy, breathable pajamas have a cult following thanks to their fabulous bamboo construction. The fabric can help regulate your body temperature overnight, which makes for a much more comfortable sleep.

Best Evening Wear for Men

Coofandy knit zip-up polo sweater.

A polo sweater is a great way to dress up an outfit in an unexpected way. This zip-up knit polo with the contrasting trim on the collar will modernize a linen suit for a summer wedding. But it’ll still look cool paired with chinos, shorts, or straight-leg jeans. Plus, the fabric is wrinkle-resistant so it’s ready to go as soon as you pull it out of your carry-on.

Best Trousers

Todd snyder lightweight ghurka trousers.

Todd Snyder

Ghurka trousers were actually military wear during the 1800s. A lot of modern menswear brands make them now because of their flattering shape thanks to the waist-fasteners and the front pleats; all of which makes them a bit more formal, too. This lightweight pair from Todd Snyder has long been a brand staple and comes in various textiles and patterns. A solid navy will go a long way in your travel wardrobe.

Alex Mill Mercer Blazer in Cotton Linen

The light cotton-linen blend of Alex Mill’s best-selling Mercer blazer is the ideal warm-weather jacket, but the classic construction makes it an all-season workhorse. It’s a part of a suit, but the relaxed silhouette and casual patch pockets make it easier to wear on its own over a classic white button-down and jeans.

Charles Tyrwhitt Pajama Set

Charles Tyrwhitt

If you want sleepwear that is as sharp as your daywear, Charles Tyrwhitt gives its pajama set a smart twist with the lapel collar. But the soft cotton and drawstring waistband are incredibly cozy as well.

A trip to Spain will require a lot of walking. Take it from Raul Bermejo, chief concierge at the Four Seasons Hotel Madrid. “Make sure to bring a pair of comfortable sneakers, as Spaniards love to walk,” he advises. “Casual sneakers or running sneakers are both fine, but casual sneakers always have a classier and more elevated look.” We agree: a great pair of classic sneakers is a standard travel must-have. They’re easy to pack and a breeze to pair with a variety of outfits. But for a Spain vacation, you should also think of packing a versatile dress shoe plus something summery for beachside adventures. For the latter, Pape suggests investing in a pair of espadrilles — a signature Spanish creation. “Espadrilles are a must — flat or with a wedge,” she says, adding that “the best ones are made in Spain with a long tradition linked to the country, so you can always buy them here!”

Best Sneakers for Women

Isabel marant beth sneakers.

Net-A-Porter

Inspired by old-school tennis shoes, these Isabel Marant velcro-strap sneakers give off a strong vintage vibe. The perforated trims on both the leather and suede uppers are a fun twist on an otherwise straightforward shoe that you can wear with shorts, jeans, and dresses.

Best Sneakers for Men

Clae bradley in white leather.

All-white low-top sneakers should already be in your wardrobe, but if not, LA-based footwear brand Clae makes a clean pair. Triple milled Nappa leather over a molded footbed delivers a super dependable shoe that you’ll reach for time and again. The minimalist look makes for a discreet day-in, day-out workhorse.

Best Sandals for Women

Sarto by franco sarto emily sandals.

Looking for a comfortable flat sandal that can go with nearly everything in your suitcase? These leather sandals are it. The cushioned footbed and the sliver of a heel will make these super easy to wear. The unusual strap design adds some visual interest, but the sleek style will complement every outfit, day or night.

Best Sandals for Men

The resort co slip-on suede espadrilles.

The Resort Co

If you don’t want to get to Spain without a pair of espadrilles already in hand, go for these suede mules from The Resort Co. They scream “summer vacation,” but in an elegant way. Slip them on for the pool, beach, breakfast at the hotel, or while exploring Madrid’s exciting vintage-shopping scene.

Best Dress Shoes for Women

J.crew layne cap-toe heels.

When selecting heels for a trip, we suggest going for a sturdy pair that you can comfortably don for multiple occasions. These J.Crew slingbacks come with block heels that aren’t too high, which is great. But you know what we love even more? The combination of leather and canvas that creates a slightly more casual vibe, meaning you can rock these during a daytime stroll through a museum or for drinks in a dressy cocktail bar.

Best Versatile Dress Shoes for Men

Vinny’s penny loafers.

Copenhagen-based Vinny’s is making some of the best-looking loafers out there right now. This colorblock pair marries summer-ready white with a gorgeous shade of burgundy — it’s an unexpected choice that really works. It’ll complement many of your outfits and can easily be dressed down. (Try it with chino shorts and a linen shirt for a chill, preppy vibe). The sole looks super sleek, but it’s actually a mix of leather and rubber which offers more support.

When it comes to sprucing up your vacation looks with accessories, all the experts agree: don’t forget a fantastic pair of sunglasses. Guridi suggests choosing “a pair that complements your face shape and adds a chic finishing touch to your outfit.”

And for Pape, a roomy basket-style bag in wicker isn’t just a fun way to add a beachy twist to your outfit, but these bags are actually a big part of Spanish culture. “Depending on the region you are traveling to, the style and design of the wicker baskets or cestos de mimbre will vary; almost every region has its own style,” she says.

We also suggest bringing sun protection with you on a trip to Spain. Many people travel to the country to enjoy its sunny weather, but according to Guridi, “one item that visitors to Spain should remember to bring, which they may often overlook, is sunscreen. Even during the cooler seasons or cloudy days, UV rays can still be strong, so it's important to apply sunscreen regularly, especially if spending time outdoors.” Another way to protect yourself from harmful UV rays is by wearing a hat. So consider adding a baseball cap or and/or a bucket hat to your packing list, too.

Finally, don’t forget your power adapter on any trip to Spain (or anywhere in Europe, for that matter). Most hotels will have power adapters that you can borrow during your stay. But why take the risk? Universal power adapters, which feature various settings to accommodate different countries, are relatively inexpensive. Here are our favorites .

Best Sunglasses for Women

Gentle monsters molta sunglasses.

Gentle Monsters

Translucent acetate sunglasses are super trendy right now, but this slightly oversized egg-shaped pair from Korea’s Gentle Monsters feels a bit more timeless. Maybe it’s the brown shade contrasting against the dark-black hue of the lenses that has us thinking you could wear these forever.

Best Sunglasses for Men

Le specs dang it sunglasses.

Slightly angular tortoise-shell frames complement almost every face shape, and we love this pair from Le Specs, because it gives off a solid you-can-wear-this-with-everything versatility. Plus, it costs under $100. Seems like a win-win to us.

Best Convertible Clutch for Women

Mansur gavriel cloud clutch.

When you’re traveling (and in daily life), you want accessories that can pull double duty. This Mansur Gavriel clutch is super roomy and comes with a removable crossbody strap. You can wear it multiple ways and for nearly every activity of your trip: during the flight, a day of shopping, for fancy meals, and whatever else you’ve got on the itinerary. Plus, the leather is so supple so you know the wear-forever quality is there.

Best Gender-neutral Tote

A.p.c. brown ninon tote.

If you prefer a bigger, more spacious carry-all, this faux-leather tote from A.P.C. is the perfect travel bag. Visible branding aside, this handsome bag is a minimalist’s dream. There’s a small pocket in the interior for your phone, some cash, and a small tube of sunscreen; otherwise, throw everything else in the main compartment, and you’re good to go.

Best Straw Bag

Yyw straw bag.

If you want to add a colorful jolt of whimsy to your travel wardrobe, go for this budget-friendly straw bag from YYW. Its crescent shape is spacious enough to fit sightseeing and beach essentials, but you’re really getting it for the fun medley of colors that will brighten up every outfit. Think about it: this bag is great for a day on a yacht in Ibiza or with a fun summer dress for a beachside dinner in Barcelona.

Best Belt for Women

Banana republic montage leather belt.

Statement-making belts are so trendy right now, but we love this more restrained style from Banana Republic. The gold-tone buckles and accents are great for adding a bit more oomph to your look, but they’re discreet enough to not overwhelm the rest of the outfit. And when traveling, you want accessories that will play well with the rest of what’s in your suitcase. You can even try using it to cinch a simple dress.

Best Belt for Men

Bleu de chauffe manchette belt.

Bleu de Chauffe

Handmade in France, Bleu de Chauffe pieces are a bit more interesting than your standard belts. We love the Manchette style and the deep chocolate brown leather that will go with everything, but the sculptural gold-tone buckle? That’s a conversation-starter that will make a T-shirt and jeans moment all the more captivating.

If you plan to visit multiple regions during your trip to Spain, Bermejo recommends going for a smaller suitcase. “A weekend trolley should be enough, as most looks should be able to be transformed and styled from day to evening, making it easier to travel around,” he says. But regardless of what size suitcase you go for, you want to find a piece of luggage that is durable and functional — those cobblestoned streets can be a pain to deal with if your suitcase doesn’t have sturdy wheels. We also recommend packing an Apple AirTag in your checked bag so that you can easily track your belongings while in transit.

Best Checked Suitcase

Monos hybrid check-in large.

A combination of aluminum and polycarbonate, this checked suitcase is nearly indestructible. Interestingly, it doesn’t have a zipper: you close it using the TSA-approved locks. (If you struggle with zipping up your suitcases, this might be the one for you). The bag is super sleek, too, featuring tonal details. Everything — from the body to the locks to the handles — is the same color. The only things that stand out are the wheels.

Best Carry-on Luggage

July carry on pro snapsleeve.

We named July’s Carry-On Pro as one of our favorite carry-on luggage pieces of 2024 largely because it looks good (it’s super sleek) and it comes with useful features (the ejectable power bank, for one). The Carry-On Pro SnapSleeve takes all those perks to the next level thanks to a laptop sleeve that you can snap off the body of the suitcase, meaning you can leave your trunk in the overhead bin and hold onto your tech in a protective pouch. Genius.

Best Backpack

Cotopaxi tasra 16l backpack - del dia.

For us, the best backpacks are large enough to carry a good amount of stuff but are still small enough to not become a piece of luggage themselves. We want a backpack that can act as a day bag if we’re taking an eight-hour excursion. The super colorful Tasra backpack from outdoorsy outfitter Cotopaxi meets those qualifications perfectly. There are lots of compartments for organized packing (including a padded laptop slot), but it’s still compact and lightweight enough to work as a personal item on a plane.

Best Duffel Bag

Rains hilo weekend bag small.

For any soft-shell bag we take on a trip, we prefer ones that are as close to waterproof as possible. Rains is known for their protective gear, and this small weekender comes with a coating that can withstand light rain. The zippers are coated, too, so that moisture can’t sneak in. Stuff the main compartment with clothes, then use the exterior compression straps to seal it all in. There’s a longer removable strap, too, if you’d prefer to carry it on your shoulders.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the weather like in spain.

Weather in Spain varies not only from season to season but also from region to region. So you’ll want to consider the destinations your trip will include as you prepare your Spain packing list. And, of course, don’t forget to check the weather forecast for the places you’re traveling to a few days before your date of departure. As a general rule, though, Spain can be extremely hot in the summer and cooler the rest of the year. The south (Andalusia) can be scorching from June to September – to the point that locals often avoid leaving the house during the day. And the north typically experiences cooler, more moderate temperatures. Spring and autumn often bring milder weather throughout the country.

What should I wear to avoid looking like a tourist in Spain?

“Typically, you can say that the overall Spanish style is colorful and smart,” says Bermejo. So if you want to blend in through fashion, choose seasonally-appropriate attire but brighten it up with interesting accessories and eye-catching patterns. You never want to look like you’re trying too hard, but do make an effort to look put-together. Remember, Pape said that there’s still usually a level of casualness to the way people dress in Spain.

Should I bring a water bottle to Spain?

Tap water is perfectly good to drink in Spain so bringing a refillable water bottle for your personal consumption will be helpful. A new tax on non-reusable plastic packaging went into effect throughout the country on January 1, 2023. This is unlikely to impact visitors (unless companies pass the extra taxes onto consumers), but it doesn’t ever hurt to pursue greener personal practices.

During June, Valencia experiences delightful summer weather characterized by warm temperatures, sun-soaked days, and balmy nights.

The average maximum temperatures during the day are around 28°C (82°F) , while the average minimum temperatures during the night are around 18ºC (65°F) . These pleasant night temperatures allow the body to recover nicely from the day’s heat, ensuring a good night’s rest.

Choose lightweight and breathable clothing made from fabrics like cotton or linen. Opt for t-shirts , tank tops , or short-sleeved shirts paired with shorts , skirts , or lightweight trousers .

Sundresses or casual dresses are great for staying cool and stylish. Lightweight trousers or capris made from breathable fabrics can be another good alternative.

If you plan to spend time on the beach or take a dip in the sea, don’t forget to pack your swimsuit or trunks . Just bear in mind that these outfits are designed for the beach, and they may draw disapproving glances from the locals if you choose to wear them in the city.

While the days can be hot, evenings in June can be slightly cooler. Consider bringing a light cardigan or a thin jacket for the evening and especially if you plan on using Valencia’s public transport network since all buses and metro coaches are air-conditioned.

Valencia is a very walkable city, so comfortable footwear is essential for exploring Valencia on foot. Choose walking shoes, sandals, or sneakers that you have already worn and broken in. Additionally, pack a hat , sunglasses , and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun’s rays.

All in all, you should pack clothes that keep you comfortable in warm weather while allowing you to enjoy Valencia’s sights and attractions .

Entry requirements

This information is for people travelling on a full ‘British citizen’ passport from the UK. It is based on the UK government’s understanding of the current rules for the most common types of travel.

The authorities in Spain set and enforce entry rules. If you’re not sure how these requirements apply to you, contact the Spanish Embassy in the UK .

COVID-19 rules

There are no COVID-19 testing or vaccination requirements for travellers entering Spain.

Passport validity requirements

Spain follows Schengen area rules . Your passport must:

  • have a ‘date of issue’ less than 10 years before the date you arrive – if you renewed your passport before 1 October 2018, it may have a date of issue that is more than 10 years ago
  • have an ‘expiry date’ at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave the Schengen area

Check with your travel provider that your passport and other travel documents meet requirements. Renew your passport if you need to.

You will be denied entry if you do not have a valid travel document or try to use a passport that has been reported lost or stolen.

Visa requirements

You can travel without a visa to the Schengen area , which includes Spain, for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. This applies if you travel:

  • as a tourist
  • to visit family or friends
  • to attend business meetings, cultural or sports events
  • for short-term studies or training

The requirements for working in Spain are different.

If you’re travelling to other Schengen countries as well, make sure your whole visit is within the 90-day visa-free limit. Visits to Schengen countries in the 180 days before you travel count towards your 90 days.

If you are visiting Spain and need to extend your visa-free stay for exceptional reasons, such as a medical emergency, you must  apply to the immigration authorities (‘Extranjería’) (in Spanish).

Make sure you get your passport stamped on entry and exit.

If you’re a visitor, border guards will look at your entry and exit stamps to check you have not overstayed the 90-day visa-free limit for the Schengen area.

If your passport is missing a stamp, show evidence of when and where you entered or left the Schengen area (for example, boarding passes or tickets) and ask the border guards to add the date and location in your passport.

British nationals living in Spain do not need their passports to be stamped. Actively show your proof of residence, such as the foreigner’s identity card (‘la tarjeta de identidad de extranjero’ or ‘TIE’), when presenting your passport at Spanish border control.

At Spanish border control, you may need to show:

  • a return or onward ticket
  • proof of your travel insurance
  • you have enough money for your stay - the amount varies depending on your accommodation
  • a hotel booking confirmation or proof of address if you’re staying at your own property
  • an invitation or proof of address if staying with a third party, friends or family, such as a ‘carta de invitation’ completed by your hosts

Using the e-gates

Use the desks staffed by border officers. If you’re aged 18 or over, and airport staff instruct you to, you may be able to use e-gates when they are working.

If you use an e-gate, make sure you get your passport stamped.

Staying longer than 90 days in a 180-day period

To stay longer, you must meet the Spanish government’s entry requirements . If you’re in Spain with a residence permit or long-stay visa, this does not count towards your 90-day visa-free limit.

Read more about passport stamping if you live in Spain .

If you cannot return to the UK before your visa-free limit expires,  contact the Spanish government’s national information service . Dial 060 from a Spanish phoneline (in Spanish, with English speaking operators available).

Travelling between Spain and Gibraltar

Spanish border checks can cause delays when crossing between Spain and Gibraltar. If you are travelling to Spain through Gibraltar, check the travel advice for entry requirements for Gibraltar .

There is no charge to enter or leave Gibraltar. Do not hand over money to anybody claiming there is a charge.

Unaccompanied minors

Spanish law considers anyone aged 17 and under to be a minor. If an unaccompanied minor comes to the attention of the Spanish authorities (particularly in connection with criminal incidents or when in hospital), they will be considered vulnerable and may be taken to a minor’s centre until a parent or guardian is found.

Vaccine requirements

For details about medical entry requirements and recommended vaccinations, see TravelHealthPro’s Spain guide .

Customs rules

There are strict rules about what goods can be taken into and out of Spain (PDF) . You must declare anything that may be prohibited or subject to tax or duty.

Taking food into Spain

You cannot take meat, milk or products containing them into EU countries . There are some exceptions such as powdered baby milk, baby food and special foods or pet feed required for medical reasons.

Taking money into Spain

Declare cash or travellers cheques if the value is 10,000 euros or more. You will get a certified declaration to show you brought it in with you. If you do not, your money could be seized when you leave.

Spain recalls its ambassador to Argentina over 'insult'

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Spain said Sunday it was recalling its ambassador from Buenos Aires after Argentine President Javier Milei , speaking at a far-right gathering in Madrid, called Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's wife "corrupt".

The European Union also stepped into the row, its foreign policy chief Josep Borrell condemning Mile's remarks.

The anti-establishment Argentine was the star speaker at a meeting of global far-right leaders organised by Spain's Vox party, which also featured Italy's Giorgia Meloni and France's Marine Le Pen.

During his speech, Milei referred to Sanchez's wife, Begona Gomez, as a "corrupt woman".

He did not identify Sanchez or his wife by name. But he did allude to a cooling-off period that Spain's Socialist premier took last month to decide whether to resign after a court opened a preliminary probe into his wife for suspected influence peddling and corruption.

Sanchez has dismissed the allegations against her as part of a campaign of political harassment by the right.

"The global elites don't realise how destructive it can be to implement the ideas of socialism... even if you have a corrupt wife, let's say, it gets dirty, and you take five days to think about it," Milei said.

Just hours later Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares announced Madrid would recall for consultations its ambassador to Argentina, and demanded a public apology from Milei.

"It is unacceptable that a sitting president visiting Spain should insult Spain and the Spanish prime minister, a fact that breaks with all diplomatic customs," Albares said in a televised address.

The recall of an ambassador for consultations is one of the strongest measures in diplomacy and the final step before the severing of diplomatic relations.

- 'Satanic' socialism -

"Attacks against family members of political leaders have no place in our culture: we condemn and reject them, especially when coming from partners," the EU's Borrell wrote on social network X.

Milei began his visit to Spain on Friday, was not scheduled to meet Sanchez or King Felipe VI during his stay as is usual during a visit by a foreign leader.

During a speech on his first day in Spain, Milei denounced what he called "satanic" socialism.

"Let us not let the dark, black, satanic, atrocious, horrible carcinogenic side that is socialism prevail over us," he said, in a talk about his books on libertarian ideas.

He picked up the theme again on Sunday during his address to the rally at Madrid's Vistalegre congress centre, which was attended by some 11,000 people according to Vox.

"I will lead by example and show the world that a government with our ideas can succeed. It is up to me to show them how sinister and nefarious socialism is," he said.

The event came ahead of elections to the European Parliament from June 6-9.

Surveys suggest those will result in major gains for Europe's far right, giving it more influence in Brussels.

- 'Benefit a few' -

Milei, a self-declared "anarcho-capitalist" won elections last November vowing to reduce the Argentine deficit to zero.

To that end, he has instituted an austerity programme that has seen the government slash subsidies for transport, fuel and energy.

Le Pen, France's far-right standard-bearer and former presidential candidate, stressed the need for tighter limits on immigration in her speech, a central theme of European far-right parties.

"Entire areas of my country, France, are being submerged by immigration," she said.

In video messages, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban urged "patriots" to "occupy Brussels", while Meloni, Italy's premier, called for a "mobilisation" to bring about "change in Europe".

In a message posted on X, Sanchez said the "international far-right" was meeting in Madrid "because Spain represents what they hate: feminism, social justice, labour dignity".

Hundreds of people, many holding up signs that read "no fascism!" protested in Madrid's central Plaza de Colon against the gathering.

Among them was 27-year-old Argentinian Marisel Cherasco who criticised Milei's policies because they "benefit a few at the expense of the well-being of the majority".

Spain to change swimming pool rules from June after fears UK tourists' holidays at risk

S pain will ease its swimming pool restrictions from June after recent rainfall put an end to droughts that forced the government to impose emergency water-saving measures.

It's good news for UK tourists renting villas and apartments with pools in the Costa del Sol, which are under strict orders to preserve water. As of June 1 however, private accommodations in Malaga province will be allowed to be filled with mains water.

Filling pools will be permitted as long as the average water use per inhabitant in a local council area does not go over a set limit, taking into account the number of residents and tourists. This will still be set at 200 litres per day, apart from in the western Costa, which includes Estepona and Marbella, where the limit is being increased to 225 litres.

The decision by the Junta de Andalucía regional government committee came after fears were raised that holidaymakers would 'cancel their trips' to Spain and go elsewhere if swimming pool rules were not eased in time for summer. A protest was held in Malaga last month following claims some tourist lets had already received cancellation requests.

Samantha Austin, representing around 50,000 tourist flats on the coast, told Sur in English that travellers were waiting for a decision on the pool restrictions for the peak summer holiday season and 'deciding whether to come or not'.

And Holly Doyle, a local swimming teacher, told the Scotsman newspaper that the restrictions were causing uncertainties for people renting their homes to tourists. "A lot of people around here rely on renting the houses out over the summer," she said. "It's not great, because people will have thought they were hiring a house with a pool.

"There might be a problem for people who are hiring out their homes – but the the pool isn't open yet, then they can't charge the same price. Guests think they’re going to a luxurious villa, but suddenly it doesn’t have a pool.”

Hotel pools and public pools already had their restrictions relaxed in April.

The reason why Ryanair urges passengers to pack this everyday item in hand luggage

African American woman stacking clothes and shoes into bag case, trying to pack hand luggage

Squeezing all your travel necessities in your hand luggage can be a struggle but Ryanair wants passengers to remember to pack this specific item.

The airline has a strict hand luggage policy and sometimes, when there are too many cabin bags to load into overhead lockers or under the seats, some passengers may be asked to check their bags into the hold without being charged.

This is why Ryanair encourages all passengers to bring along a small, foldable bag tucked away alongside your valuables in your hand luggage.

In the ‘need to know’ section on its website , the budget-friendly airline tells passengers to pack a ‘lightweight, foldable bag inside your carry-on luggage’.

Bringing a small foldable bag will give you a secure place to stash your phone, money snacks and other valuables and ensure they stay with you during the flight.

This small bag can then be tucked away under the seat in front of you.

Passengers occasionally arrive at the gate with a cabin bag that exceeds the free hand luggage allowance, and they may be required to check their bag into the hold, unless they paid for an extra cabin bag.

Travellers who do not wish to pay for any extra luggage are permitted one small personal bag measuring 40 x 20 x 25cm and it must fit under the seat in front of you.

Passengers boarding on a Ryanair plane at Stansted London International Airport

There’s also the Priority boarding option, which gives customers an additional cabin bag which can measure up to 55 x 40 x 20cm and weigh up to 6kg. The price of this little luxury depends on the route and selected dates of travel.

In related travel news, a flight attendant shared an amazing and simple way to stay safe on flights.

When it comes to flying, the pressure can increase the risk of developing a deep vein thrombosis (a blood clot in a vein), particularly on flights that are longer than four hours.

So, the next time you jet off, consider building the ‘alphabet’ hack into your routine to prevent clotting and keep your mind at ease. It’s easy to remember (and if you forget, you can sing along the alphabet song as you practise it).

‘To prevent blood clots during long flights, consider incorporating a few simple strategies,’ TikToker @ciciinthesky, who is a flight attendant and often shares travel tips and inspiration to her account, explains.

‘First, remember the alphabet exercise – trace each letter with your foot to promote circulation,’ CiCi outlines in one video.

‘Second, wear compression socks, which help maintain blood flow and reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

‘Finally, make it a point to stand up and walk around every hour or so if possible. This helps activate your leg muscles, encouraging blood to flow more freely.

‘Combining these techniques not only enhances your comfort but also significantly lowers the risk of developing blood clots during extended periods of inactivity.’
