Mes besoins

Road Test: Chrysler Grand Voyager 3.3 Limited 5dr Auto
SPEC HIGHLIGHTS
Oh dear. In saying that I'd enjoyed driving his new car, I managed to upset the Chrysler chap. I said it was 'surprisingly good'. He inferred I was saying that Chrysler usually turned out mutts.
But let's face it, given Voyager's history, I had every right. The old model was useful enough for carting people and clobber. And doing so in varying proportion, because of its super-clever seat-fold mechanism. But, oh my, it was a drudge to drive.
No more. The all-new Grand Voyager has more power, two more gears and multi-link rear suspension, instead of leaf springs. But it's not the mechanical spec that has really gone up a notch, it's the fine-tuning.
The steering is confident and well-weighted. The damping decently controls body motions. The brake travel is properly calibrated. The ride is decently supple, and it doesn't clang or creak over bumps.
In short, this feels like a car. OK, it's a heavy and slow car, but the old one felt like a commercial vehicle. And the people carrier stuff is even better. The conjuror's ease with which the seats appear from the floor is a crowd-pleaser, and the vacant storage bins they leave behind can swallow huge amounts.
The only issue is that if there are seven people on board, there might be arguments about who goes where: instead of the traditional 2:3:2 formation, it's 2:2:3, and the three are on a cramped bench.
There are storage bins and little lamps all over the place. You can choose to have a £2,000 three-screen entertainment system that lets you pipe different video to all three rows. Navigation in front, movie behind, PlayStation behind that, say.
Space, room, comfort, versatility, facilities - these are the things by which we ought to judge a people carrier. The Grand Voyager is ruddy expensive for a slow car that can't manage German fit'n'finish.
It won't win plaudits from design mavens who get all steamed up about texture and surfacing. But it has more than ever to please six real-life human passengers. And much more now for the seventh, who has to drive them.

Testing the compression of all 6 cylinders on your 3.3L Chrysler/Dodge mini-van can seem quite a challenge. Mainly because of the 3 cylinders that face the firewall.
But, once you get to those spark plugs and remove them, testing and interpreting the engine's compression isn't hard. In this tutorial I'll show you how to do it in a step-by-step way and more importantly, I'll show you how to interpret your compression test results to see if there's a problem or not.
Contents of this tutorial:
- Symptoms Of Low Or No Engine Compression .
Which Compression Tester Should I Buy?
- TEST 1: The ‘Dry’ Engine Compression Test .
- Interpreting Your Compression Test Results .
- TEST 2: ‘Wet’ Engine Compression Test .

Tools You'll Need:
- Compression Gauge Tester.
- Pen and Paper
Symptoms Of Low Or No Engine Compression
You can pretty much categorize the symptoms into 2 basic categories: Either your Chrysler is gonna' start but run rough (better known as running with a misfire). Or your Chrysler is gonna ‘crank but not start’.
Let me go into more details about both conditions:
Engine starts but runs with a misfire:
- Also known as an engine miss, rough idle condition . Usually caused by very low compression in one cylinder or uneven engine compression that varies more than 15% across all of them.
- P0300 Random Cylinder Misfire.
- P0301 Cylinder #1 Misfire.
- P0302 Cylinder #2 Misfire.
- P0303 Cylinder #3 Misfire.
- P0304 Cylinder #4 Misfire.
- P0305 Cylinder #5 Misfire.
- P0306 Cylinder #6 Misfire.
- Bad gas mileage . This is caused by the simple fact that the engine is now running on less than all 6 cylinders, which requires those cylinders to work harder to move the vehicle.
- Engine pollutes more .This is also caused by the simple fact that the engine is now running on less than its full complement of cylinders. The live cylinders have to compensate for the ‘dead’ ones.
If your 3.3L V-6 Chrysler equipped mini-van is NOT OBD II equipped, you won't have any codes lighting up the check engine light, but you'll definitely feel a rough idle condition.
Your Chrysler won't start:
This usually is caused by having all of the 6 cylinders with no compression. When this happens, you'll see:
- The engine cranks very fast . This fast cranking speed is very noticeable.
- The Ignition System is sparking all 6 spark plugs . This tells you that the no-start condition is not caused by a fault in the ignition system.
- The fuel injectors spray fuel . You can confirm this with a Noid Light test. Also, you can confirm this, although indirectly, by removing the spark plugs and checking to see if they are fuel soaked (fuel fouled).
- Fuel pump is working and providing pressure.
- The most common causes of no compression on 2 or all 4 cylinders are: Blown head gasket. Or a broken timing chain. Or the engine threw a rod.
OK, having covered the most common scenarios of low compression and no compression, let's get testing to see if this is the case on your 3.3L V-6 Chrysler equipped mini-van.
There are lot of engine compression testers to choose from and many places to buy them. I'm gonna' make two recommendations to you:
1) Which one to buy: The engine compression tester that I have always used is the Actron CP7827 Compression Tester Kit . My only complaint about this engine compression tester is that it does not come with a case to store it in.
2) Where to buy: You can buy an engine compression tester just about anywhere, but you'll end up paying more for it (especially at your local auto parts store). The above links will help you comparison shop. I think you'll agree it's the better way to save money on the compression tester!
TEST 1: The ‘Dry’ Engine Compression Test
In case you don't have an engine compression tester handy, you can run down to your local auto parts store and rent one.
To be a bit more specific, if you have an AutoZone or an O'Reilly auto parts store, they'll loan you one for a small deposit. Once you return the compression tester, they'll return you the deposit you put down for the tool.
If you need help deciding where to buy one or which one to buy, take a look at my recommendations: Which Compression Tester Should I Buy?
IMPORTANT: You'll be working around a cranking engine, so you have to be careful and stay alert at all times. Think safety all of the time!
This is what you'll need to do:
Disconnect the coil pack from its harness connector . This will prevent the ignition coil pack from firing off spark to the spark plug wires. NOTE: Disconnecting the ignition coil pack's electrical harness connector is important, since it'll prevent damage to the coil pack!
Disconnect the spark plug wires from their spark plugs . I recommend that you label them before disconnecting them so that you'll know what spark plug they belong to (when it's time to reconnect them).
Remove all 6 spark plugs . As you're taking them out, be careful and don't drop any of them on the floor, or you could cause the spark plug's ceramic insulator to break, and this will cause a misfire!
Thread the engine compression gauge into the spark plug hole for the number 1 engine cylinder (this is the spark plug hole closest to the drive belt). Hand tighten the compression gauge only! Do not use any type of tool to get it tight.
When everything is set up, have your helper to crank the engine . Your job is to keep your eye on the compression tester's gauge.
Once the needle on the gauge stops climbing, have your helper stop cranking the engine .
Write down the compression value on a piece of paper . Include the number of the cylinder this reading belongs to.
Now repeat step 4 on the other 5 cylinders .
Let's take a look at what your test results mean:
CASE 1: No compression in 2 or more cylinders . This test result tells you that the engine has serious internal problems.
The most common issues would be: Broken timing chain. Or a blown head gasket. Or the engine threw a rod. To test for a blown head gasket, see this tutorial: How To Test For A Blown Head Gasket (3.3L V6 Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth Mini-Van) .
CASE 2: Low compression in one or more cylinders . To a certain point, it's normal for the compression to vary a little between cylinders (as the engine accumulates thousands of miles). But if these values vary too much, then you're gonna' have a bonafide misfire on your hands.
So, your next step is to do the math and find out if these compression values are within normal parameter or not. Go to: Interpreting Your Compression Test Results .

Chrysler Voyager — TIMING CHAIN OR BELT?
| Home / Chrysler / List of Chrysler Voyager Models without Timing Belt
The Chrysler Voyager is a minivan ( D-segment in Europe) from the American automaker Chrysler.
The first generation Chrysler Voyager model was released in 1988 as a rebadged version of the Dodge Caravan , which was sold in the United States. This would serve as the basis for the various generations of the Voyager. However, its evolution also depended on the Plymouth Voyager and the Chrysler Town & Country . This first version used the Chrysler S platform . It fitted only large displacement in-line 4-cylinder gasoline engines and a Mitsubishi-derived V6. The model arrived in Europe in 1988 as a rebadged Dodge Caravan , only with fewer engines available.
The second generation would arrive in 1991. It used a more advanced platform (Chrysler AS Platform) and included turbo diesel versions developed by VM Motori. The design followed suit as a 3-door “minivan”.
From the third generation onwards, important changes took place due to the fact that Chrysler Corporation became DaimlerChrysler AG. The model was launched in 1996 and Daimler would become a shareholder 2 years later. It was sold as a 3-door minivan as well as a 4-door minivan, with short and long wheelbase models.
At the end of the third and the beginning of the fourth generation , DaimlerChrysler decided to get rid of the Playmouth brand in 2001, dropping the Plymouth Voyager with it. In the U.S., however, the small version of the Chrysler Voyager (SWB or short wheelbase) replaced the Plymouth Voyager, and in 2003 only the Town & Country model (known in Europe as Grand Voyager) and the Dodge variants remained. Despite being a fairly successful model in sales , the large version scored rather poorly in EuroNCAP safety tests. The short version scored better overall. They were produced on Chrysler’s RG and RS platforms.
In 2008, the fifth generation of the Voyager arrived. This model aimed to position itself as a luxury MPV. It was sold as Grand Voyager in the European market only, a version of the American Town & Country . It was produced on the Chrysler RT platform and attracted the attention even of Volkswagen, which wanted to enter the American market with the Volkswagen Routan , a variant of the Grand Voyager with a different bodywork and whose development has nothing to do with the Volkswagen Sharan . The model would also be sold as RAM Cargo Van and Lancia Voyager from 2011, after the first restyling and the entry of FCA.
The sixth and current generation Chrysler Voyager is nothing more than a low-end variant of the Chrysler Pacifica and arrived on the market in late 2020. Already within the Stellantis conglomerate, the group ended production of the Dodge Grand Caravan , making the Voyager the entry-level minivan of what remains of the former FCA group.
Chrysler Voyager. Timing Belt or Timing Chain?
Down below you will see a list with all Chrysler Voyager models that have been produced. They are classified by model identifier , year and type of bodywork . Above each list, we show you a series of pictures so that you can have a visual reference for each model. In some cases, both the original and its updated design are displayed to help you identify them with ease.
In this guide you will find all Chrysler Voyager.
■ Timing Belt / Cam Belt (Correa / Faja de Distribución) ■ Timing Chain (Cadena de Distribución / Cadena de Tiempo) ■ Gear Driven (Distribución por Engranajes) ■ 100% Electric, No Timing (Sin Distribución) ■ Unknown / Not Updated (Información desconocida)
If a car model is specified in blue, it means its motor engine has a timing chain ; that is, it has no timing belt . The rest of the vehicles marked in grey have a timing belt/cam belt

Grand Voyager 3 III (2) 2.8 CRD 150 LIMITED BVA (2006)
Grand Voyager 3 III 2.5 CRD LX (2002)
