Qatar Tourism Offers Tour Guide Training and Licensing Program
Doha, October 15 (QNA) - Qatar Tourism (QT) has called on the citizens and residents of Qatar to register for tour guide training courses.
The tour guide training and licensing initiative is part of several that have been introduced by QT to raise the standard of tourism service providers and further regulate the tourism sector.
Qatar Tourism indicated, in a statement today, that in anticipation of an influx of visitors to Qatar later this year and in view of the tourism sectors longer-term vision of attracting 6 million visitors a year by 2030, it is calling on the people of Qatar to join the growing number of tour guides in the sector.
Those interested will be provided with the necessary training and awarded an official license to work with tourism companies in Qatar and provide guided tours across the country, QT added.
QT noted that applicants must be over 21 years of age and hold a valid Qatar ID to be eligible for the program. The training is available in English and Arabic, and candidates with diverse language capabilities are encouraged to apply.
QT said that training continues to be held on a rolling basis and the number of licensed tour guides has more than doubled since October of last year. For this year, and in an effort to encourage uptake of the program, QT has waived all fees related to training, licensing and exams.
By completing the program, tour guides will be able to help visitors navigate everything from the countrys cultural hotspots to foodie favorites; business traveler tips and tricks to luxury and leisure must-dos; family favorites to adrenaline boosting adventures. (QNA)

How to become a Licensed Tour Guide in Qatar
Recently I’ve had a number of people asking how to go about becoming a licenced tour guide here in Qatar.
You start by visiting the Qatar Tourism website.
https://www.qatartourism.com/en/licensing-e-services/e-services/tour-guides
Once you’re on the Qatar Tourism website, click on the APPLY FOR THE COURSE button.
You will need to have your Qatar ID ready.
And be aware you may be required to have an NOC from your sponsor or employer as well.
After completing your application online, you will be invited to pop into Qatar Tourism for a brief interview.
Candidates passing the interview will then need to enrol on the Tour Guide Training Program which costs 1,200 Qatar Riyals.
You then need to complete some online training before going for a 12-day practical, in person training.
The next in person training is currently scheduled to take place on the 8th of September.
At the end of the training, you will be assessed. If you pass the assessment, then you need to pay a further 1,000 Riyals for your licence. And your licence needs to be renewed annually.
Anyone entering the training program that would like to meet me to know more, I would be delighted join you for a coffee. But only after you have paid your fees.

The 14-day course will provide comprehensive information about Qatar’s history, environment and culture, and is required to obtain an official tour guide license
Qatar Tourism announced the opening of the Tour Guide Training Programme to give practising tour guides and eligible residents the opportunity to enhance their skills in the tourism sector.
Dates of upcoming training sessions will be announced in the coming months. Interested parties can register through the Qatar Tourism website (scan the QR code) or in person at the office of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Lusail (Al-Jassra Tower, First Floor Counter 44). The course will be conducted in English, the exam fee is QAR1,200, while the Tour Guide license fee is QAR1,000.
Berthold Trenkel of Qatar Tourism said that as the main point of contact for visitors, tour guides need to be able to tell stories, give visitors information and insights into the country’s history, culture and heritage.
As part of our Tourism Sector Strategy, we are working closely with all tourism-facing entities to implement Service Excellence at every touchpoint of the visitor’s journey. With the FIFA World Cup 2022 around the corner, we need more guides to cater to the huge number of visitors who will be arriving in the country.
The Tour Guide Training Programme uses the Tour Guide Manual developed by Qatar Tourism in partnership with a number of stakeholders including Qatar Museums , Msheireb Museums , Ministry of Municipality and Environment , Souq Waqif , Qatar Foundation , Qatar TV , and Sheikh Abdulla bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic and Cultural Center (Al Fanar).
The manual will enable tour guides to deliver insightful information about Qatar’s society and ecosystem, and also contains a section on tour group management, highlighting the skills that tour guides need to be able to provide an ideal visitor experience.
Since the beginning of the programme in 2017, over 100 tour guides have been trained, helping position Qatar as an ideal tourism spot in the Gulf.
