Star trek: picard vineyard location revealed, the identity and location of captain jean-luc picard’s vineyard in the latest star trek series has been revealed – with a californian winery standing in for what is supposed to be burgundy..

Enjoying its premier last week, the new Star Trek series had a surprisingly wine-centric focus when the teaser adverts were released last year.

As the drinks business noted at the time , it was revealed in the trailers (and even the marketing promotions) that the start of the Star Trek: Picard series takes place in Burgundy, where former Starfleet officer Jean-Luc Picard (played by Patrick Stewart) has retired to his family domain to make wine.

The family vineyard even made a couple of appearances during the ‘ Next Generation ’ series from 1987-1994.

Although meant to be located in La Barre – which is a real commune in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté – viewers may have twigged that the vine training and low density vineyard being depicted looked rather more Californian than French and, indeed, it is the case.

Time and budget constraints mean that film and television shows routinely use locations that are nowhere near where they are meant to be. The exterior shots for the long-running show MASH for example were filmed in Malibu not Korea. Exactly which vineyard was chosen as a stand-in for ‘Château Picard’, however, has remained under wraps until now.

Wine Spectator reported late last week that the vineyard is in fact Sunstone in the Santa Ynez Valley.

General manager David Moser told the magazine that the production team needed “an authentic-looking French château within driving distance of LA”.

The villa on the property includes architectural features and materials from the south of France.

Filming took place for one week in April 2019 and a nondisclosure agreement meant the winery had to keep schtum about its involvement until the series aired.

Now that it has, local – and not so local – Trekkies are more than welcome to visit, Moser added.

‘Château Picard’ itself actually has three iterations in connection to the  Star Trek universe. While supposedly located in Burgundy and represented in the series by a Californian winery, there is a real Château Picard located in Saint-Estèphe in Bordeaux.

Furthermore, the producers of Star Trek and the château-owners, négociant business Mähler-Besse, have collaborated on an ‘official’ Star Trek: Picard wine. All of which might prove a little head-scratching for those not very well versed in wine.

Rob on Location

Star Trek: Picard is the long awaited return of Jean-Luc Picard to the Star Trek Universe. Sir Patrick Stewart starred as the Captain on Star Trek: The Next Generation from 1988 to 1995. This was followed by four movies. Picard’s first season debuted in 2020. After being sidelined by Covid 19, season two aired in 2022, and the third and final season is expected to air in 2023.

The series was met with mixed reviews. Some fans celebrated the return of Picard, while others found the story convoluted and too reliant on action as opposed to storytelling. Nonetheless, the show has been a success, and fans are anticipating the return of the entire TNG cast for season three.

The show is filmed in and around the Los Angeles area. The city was extensively used in season two, when the crew travels back in time to 2024. However most of the locations I’m going to feature below are from season one, as these are locations I’ve personally visited.

Vasquez Rocks

When Picard visits Raffi at her home, she’s living in a home at Vasquez Rocks. These rock formations are located just outside Santa Clarita, and have been a popular filming location for many years. Just in the Star Trek franchise, they’ve appeared in The Original Series, The Next Generation, Voyager, Enterprise, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home , Star Trek, and Star Trek Into Darkness.

Vasquez Rocks

Troi and Riker’s Cabin

The cabin used as Deanna Troi and Will Riker’s home appeared in the first season when Picard and Soji visit. The cabin used is located on the backlot of Universal Studios next to the War of the Worlds set. It is more recognizable for appearing in the 80s comedy movie The Great Outdoors.

Star Trek Picard cabin

Vashti is a planet in the Beta Quadrant. It is the site of a Romulan resettlement camp and home to Elnor. The Romulan camp was set up on Mexican Street at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Stardust City

In the first season, Rios visit’s Stardust City on planet Freecloud. He beams down onto a busy pedestrian street where we see signs for Quark’s Bar and Mr. Mott’s Hair Emporium in the background. This scene was filmed at Universal Studio’s CityWalk, right in front of the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.

Star Trek Picard

Starfleet Headquarters

Long shots of Starfleet Headquarters show the facility at the end of the Golden Gate Bridge, around Horseshoe Bay. Of course, the buildings were all added using CGI.

San Francisco

Closeup shots of Starfleet were filmed at the Anaheim Convention Center. I haven’t visited there yet, but hope to have photos in the future.

Chateau Picard

Scenes at Chateau Picard were filmed just outside Santa Barbara, at the Sunstone Winery . I haven’t had a chance to visit this location as it’s a couple hours from Los Angeles. But I do hope to in the future.

Check out filming locations from other Star Trek productions like The Original Series , The Next Generation , Deep Space Nine , Voyager , and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home .

Chateau Picard: The backstory behind this legendary Star Trek Wine

The true back story of Chateau Picard wine is that for several generations in Bordeaux France, the original Chateau Picard winery has been producing world-class highly regarded and sought after Cru Bourgeois Bordeaux.

Working together with the wine makers at Chateau Picard’s multi-generational vineyard in Bordeaux, France, Star Trek Wines crafted this limited-edition release featuring Jean-Luc Picard’s family label. The wine plays a significant part of the story in the CBS ALL-Access series   Star Trek: Picard.

“They say a vintner’s history is in every glass. The soil he came from, his past, hopes for the future. So, to the future…”

– Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Starfleet Admiral, retired)

The actual  Chateau Picard  is a real family owned vineyard located in Bordeaux in the region of Saint-Estephe. The 2017 Chateau Picard Cru Bourgeois Bordeaux is from an estate in the heart of the world-renowned Saint-Estèphe region in France. Wines from the Saint-Estèphe region tend to be bold, rich wines that age extremely well. The Star Trek Wines version of Chateau Picard is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot blend that is subtly smoky and spicy with a bright, fresh, clean-tasting style. The wine spends 14 months in oak, 70% seasoned and 30% new.

Srn member links, deep space wine: 'star trek' château picard is now a reality.

Plus, 'Breaking Bad' stars cook up a new Mexican indulgence: Mezcal; and winelaw gets a shout-out at the Democratic debates

It's a story as old as the wine biz: Young next-generation member of a winemaking family has supposedly greater aspirations than running the family business, leaves town and makes a different life but eventually becomes disaffected and returns to the farm after his starship is badly damaged, his android friend Data is killed and the planet Romulus is destroyed by a supernova. That's how it went for one Jean-Luc Picard , native of France, Earth, captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise , and long-lived-but-dubiously-prosperous vigneron protagonist of the upcoming Star Trek: Picard . In the teaser released in May, we see the vines and wines of Château Picard where the Starfleet ace seems to have retired in disillusionment. And this week brings news that fans down here in the 21st century will be able to drink bona fide Château Picard wine from the real-life Château Picard.

According to Spencer Brewer , COO of Wines that Rock, which facilitated the project, Star Trek producers had been trying for years to make a Château Picard wine. The problem and solution turned out to be the same: There already is a Château Picard , in Bordeaux's St.-Estèphe region, with its own centuries-old reputation. Earlier this year, Wines that Rock and Mähler-Besse, the company that owns the cru Bourgeois estate, finally got the ball rolling together. As they pored over what labels for a Star Trek cuvée might look like, CBS had news: A new Star Trek series was about to be shot, prominently featuring bottles of Picard's wine (e.g. Picard ). Now, after a few months of wrangling with the various agencies that regulate intraplanetary alcohol trade on Earth, the Château Picard bottles with the Captain Picard labels are available to buy this week, along with a Special Reserve United Federation of Planets Zinfandel.

"We released the collector's set [of both bottles] at 10:00 [Tuesday] morning, and all 1,700 sold out by 9:00 that night," Brewer told Unfiltered from a Star Trek convention in Las Vegas. "The reaction [from fans] is instant: 'Wow, you've got to be kidding me, that really is the Château Picard from the Château Picard in Bordeaux?'" Indeed it is: the same 85/15 Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot 2016 Château Picard bottled under the château's normal label, though the Jean-Luc label bears the vintage 2386. "It is quite fun to work on such a project, since this is not necessarily what we are used to in the industry," Mähler-Besse rep Patrick De Abreu told Unfiltered via email.

For making the Zin, Brewer also had a vision: "If you're going to go to a Federation dinner or a representative meeting of all the planets 200 years in the future, what would people be proud of to serve on the table?" he explained, ultimately deciding it would be a three-vineyard Dry Creek Valley old-vine blend. The bottle, a tapered cuboid that stands two inches taller than its Bordeaux counterpart, had to be filled and corked by hand, as 21st-century technology has not produced a bottling line advanced enough to process it. That wine hasn't gotten any screen time—yet. Picard is still filming, and, Brewer told us, the series prop director has a few bottles to use on set. As the good captain himself once said, things are only impossible until they're not.

'Breaking Bad' Stars Cook Up a New Mexican Indulgence: Mezcal

"We're up to no good," Bryan Cranston said, smiling as he and Aaron Paul worked behind the bar at the Napoleon House in New Orleans' French Quarter. The duo, famous for their roles as meth entrepreneurs Walter White and Jesse Pinkman on Breaking Bad , were in town on July 19 during the Tales of the Cocktail convention to promote a different sort of stimulant: Mezcal. They have partnered on their own brand, Dos Hombres.

Breaking Bad Mezcal

Breaking Bad went off the air in 2013, but Cranston and Paul became good friends during the show's run. "We realized, they're not going to cast us together for a few years," Cranston told Unfiltered. "But we wanted to keep working together." Paul suggested Mezcal; he was a fan of the Mexican agave spirit. Cranston admits he hadn't tried it in years, but was intrigued. So the Mezcal hermanos took a research trip to Oaxaca, touring various distilleries. Eventually, they partnered with a 200-year-old family distillery in San Luis del Rio to produce Dos Hombres.

At Napoleon House, the duo shook drinks behind the bar with Ralph Brennan , who owns the historic tavern as well as other notable local spots like Brennan's . Fans lined up for a block outside for the chance to sip a cocktail prepared by Cranston or Paul and snap a selfie.

Breaking Bad Mezcal

Cranston appeared to be having a ball. "I'm at the point in my career where I'm only going to work on things I enjoy," he said. He likened the steep learning curve of the liquor business to researching a new role. "I go into a world that I don’t know and learn what I can. This has been a lot of fun." He is, after all, the one who knocks … them back.

Mayor Pete Buttigieg at Dem Debate: Repeal of Prohibition Greatest Example of Deep Structural Change

After months of campaigning, four debates, and the announcement of 20 billion candidates for president, the issue that is most important to Unfiltered and our avid readers finally came up during the Democratic debates Part 2, Part 1, on July 30. That is, of course, the universal right for all people to have access to alcohol.

About an hour into the slogfest, between candidates telling each other just how wrong they were about less important issues, South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg cut through the noise and spoke truth to power. "People look at me funny as if this country were incapable of structural reform," he said while arguing for constitutional action on various woes relating to democracy or somesuch. "This is a country that once changed its Constitution so you couldn't drink, and then changed it back, 'cause we changed our minds about that. You're telling me we can't reform our democracy?"

While Unfiltered was, as always, thrilled to hear a shout-out to beverage alcohol legislation, we must do our due diligence here by doing a quick fact-check : The 18th Amendment of the Constitution didn't actually outlaw drinking itself. It said that the "manufacture, sale or transportation" of alcohol was illegal. We believe this deserves two Pinocchios on the Washington Post 's four-Pinocchio scale, but we're not really in the business of scoring constitutional arguments (yet?).

Bud Light Creates Peace Offering for Area 51 Aliens (It's Beer)

A viral movement to raid Area 51, a U.S. Air Force base in Nevada where secret extraterrestrial intelligence is almost certainly hidden by the government , gained some attention in recent weeks, and brands are on it! Last month, Bud Light (the official Beer of Space ) teased a new “extraterrestrial logo” via Twitter, and with over 40,000 retweets, the design might be hitting shelves soon.

Bud Light Area 51 beer

“We set the challenge of 51,000 retweets to make the can a reality," Bud Light director of digital marketing Conor Mason told Unfiltered via email. To further show that they come in peace, Bud Light is offering free beer to “any alien that makes it out.” Alien costumes might get you a free 12-pack, but is it worth a stand-off with the United States military? “Our hope is that no one intrudes on government operations,” Mason told Unfiltered, “and if aliens do happen to come to Earth anytime soon, we will have beer waiting for everyone.” Unfiltered naturally pressed Mason on whether Bud Light believes in aliens. “Why would we make a special can if we didn’t?”

This 'Star Trek' Wine Was Produced at the Actual Chateau Picard in France

The new Trekkie collection also debuts with a California Zinfandel.

Mike Pomranz has been covering craft beer for nearly two decades and trending food and beverage news for Food & Wine for 7 years.

star trek picard chateau location

Star Trek has some of the most diehard fans on the planet (ever heard of a "Trekkie"?) meaning they're bombarded with plenty of branded products. We've seen Star Trek beers and Star Trek booze. But a new line of Star Trek wines features something special — a red made at the actual Chateau Picard.

The inaugural collection from Star Trek Wines includes two "limited edition" releases: a 2016 Chateau Picard Cru Bourgeois Bordeaux for $60 and a 2017 Special Reserve United Federation of Planets Old Vine Zinfandel for $50. The former is "from an estate in the heart of the world-renowned Saint-Estèphe region in France," featuring "an 85-percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 15-percent Merlot blend" that "spends 14 months in oak, 70% seasoned and 30% new." The latter is a massive 14.6-percent ABV blend of 87-percent Zinfandel, 12-percent Petit Sirah, and one-percent Syrah produced in California's Dry Creek and Russian River Valleys in Sonoma County. Both wines are produced under license from CBS Consumer Products by the company Wines That Rock, which, as the name implies, is best known for their music-themed wines from the likes of The Rolling Stones and KISS , but has also been behind branded wines for Downton Abbey and even NPR .

But in the Star Trek collection, the Chateau Picard is the star of the show for a serendipitous reason. As Wines That Rock explains, "Fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation and the upcoming Star Trek: Picard series, which premieres in early 2020 exclusively on CBS All Access in the U.S., will recognize Chateau Picard as Jean-Luc Picard's family vineyard in France's La Barre region. However, Chateau Picard is also the name of an award-winning, multi-generational vineyard in the Bordeaux region of France." As such, the brand "teamed with the actual Chateau Picard vineyard to introduce the Star Trek Chateau Picard wine." Unlike a lot of branded wine, the coincidence makes for a pretty cool backstory.

Both wines are available exclusively at StarTrekWines.com . A limited-edition Collector Pack is, clearly, already sold out. (These are Trekkies we're talking about.) But don't worry: Wines That Rock says that more releases will be coming in the future.

Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard, Standing at Chateau Picard in Star Trek: Picard

If you’re relatively new to the long history of Star Trek: The Next Generation , you maybe be ever-so-slightly confused as to why Jean-Luc Picard is living on a wine vineyard at the start of the new series, Star Trek: Picard . Is Jean-Luc drinking too much? Since when did he love grapes so much?

Well, the existence the winery known as Château Picard has a long history in the canon of Star Trek , and, interestingly, in the real world, too. Here’s everything you need to know about Picard’ connection to French wine, what role it’s played in Trek so far, how this effects the events of the new show—plus, where you can drink the wine IRL.

The first episode that features Picard’s family wine estate happens right after Picard’s famous Borg assimilation.

After Jean-Luc Picard was assimilated by the Borg Collective in The Next Generation season 3 finale “The Best of Both Worlds Part 1,” he eventually was de-Borged at the start of season 4. Right away, TNG writer Ronald D. Moore wrote an episode called “Family,” in which Picard goes home to Labarrère, France to visit his brother Robert, Robert’s wife Marie and Picard’s young nephew René Picard.

Ad – content continues below

This episode established that Picard’s family had been making wine in Labarrère, France for several generations, and that it was kind of a big deal that Jean-Luc left home and didn’t participate in the family business. Although Robert and Jean-Luc are mad at each other for most of this episode, they do end up laughing and drinking wine together, covered in mud, at the every end.

Later, disaster struck Picard’s family in Star Trek Generations.

Four years after the events of “Family,” in the year, 2371, Jean-Luc was sent news from Earth that Robert, Marie, and René were all killed in a fire on Earth. This event happens off screen in Star Trek Generations , but the news of the death of his family hits Jean-Luc really hard. The biggest issue was that after the death of René, Jean-Luc realized that his “family line,” would end with him. Jean-Luc never had any children, and young René was the future of the Picards.

It was never made entirely clear in canon if the Picard winery was burned or destroyed in the accident involving René, Marie and Robert, but, as is evident in Star Trek: Picard , the vineyard is up and running in the year 2399, and, has been making wine since 2386. The reason we know this is that the label on the bottle of wine Picard was holding in the very first teaser says the vintage is 2386.

Generally speaking, the vintage refers to when the when the grapes were harvested. Assuming it took about three years for the grapes to be grown for the Bourgogne Picard holds in the first teaser, that means those grapes were planted around 2383 or before. So, this means Château Picard has been operating since at least 2383, meaning that sometime between 2371 and 2383, someone was keeping things up and running for about a decade since Robert’s death. Or, it could mean that the vineyard only recently got back into business.

According to the “First Duty” exhibition at San Diego Comic Con, Jean-Luc retires from Starfleet in 2386, which means it’s reasonable to assume the he personally harvested the wine we see him holding in the first teaser.

Prior to Star Trek: Picard, we’ve already seen a different alternate future where Picard harvests wine in his retirement.

Somewhat famously, the idea that Picard would spend his retirement on his family’s wine vineyard was established as a possible future in the series finale of The Next Generation , “All Good Things…” That episode was all about Jean-Luc being shuffled Kurt Vonnegut style between three different time periods: his first day as the captain of the Enterprise; the relative “present”; and the future year 2395, where he is an older man living on the wine vineyard, harvesting wine, and, possibly, losing his memory.

This future is not part of the “real” Star Trek canon, because it also involves a paradox which creates an anti-time anomaly that destroys the entire universe. Picard prevents this from happening in the alternate 2395, and then, off-screen, tells the entire “presente day” crew about what happened. La Forge and Crusher talk about the fact that Picard gave them foreknowledge of future events, and everybody pretty much decides that they are not going to let that exact future come to pass.

So far, everything that has happened after “All Good Things…” indicates the TNG crew was successful. In Generations , the Enterprise-D was destroyed, so it couldn’t actually exist in the 2395 future we saw in that episode. Plus, in the trailers for Picard, Deanna Troi is clearly alive in 2399, but in the anti-time future, she had mysteriously died in 2395. Data also was alive in in the anti-time future, but, of course, in regular canon, Data “died” in 2379, at the end of Star Trek Nemesis .

And yet, even though nearly everything about Jean-Luc’s future vision has been different, it’s clear that Star Trek: Picard establishes one thing is the same: Picard spends his retirement working on his family’s wine vineyard, just like he did in “All Good Things…” And although he doesn’t have a big bushy beard, and he’s not losing his memory…it seems like the fate of the galaxy is still hanging in the balance.

Château Picard exists throughout the Star Trek timeline—and in real life, too.

Easter eggs featuring bottles of wine made by Château Picard exist in a few cool places in Star Trek canon. In Star Trek: Discovery , Captain Georgioiu (Michelle Yeoh) has a bottle of Château Picard in her ready room on the USS Shenzhou, with a vintage of 2349. To be clear, this episode exists about about 49 years before Jean-Luc was even born, and the vintage of the wine is 56 years before he’s born, meaning the family has been making wine for a long, long time.

Similarly, in Star Trek Nemesis , the crew share a bottle of Château Picard after Data is killed. Echoing a sentiment from Admiral Kirk in The Search For Spock , Jean-Luc toasts, “To absent friends.” This bottle has vintage of 2267, meaning the wine was harvested right in the middle of Captain Kirk’s five-year-mission in The Original Series , which again, predates Picard’s birth and means that wine came from a very good year.

Here on planet earth in 2020, you can get a real bottle of Château Picard Bordeaux which claims to have vintage of 2386, just like the bottles of Bourgogne Jean-Luc is holding in the trailers. When you open one of these bottles up, you’ll see on the cork that this is really a 2017 vintage, and that this wine doesn’t come from Labarrère, France, but from Saint-Estèphe, France, which is about a two hour drive away.

This is because Château Picard in Saint-Estèphe predates the fictional Château Picard in Star Trek . Basically, back in the ‘90s, it was a happy accident that this winery already existed. And now, the folks at Château Picard are bringing the best vintage of the 24th century into the 21st century through the magic—and patience—of harvesting grapes.

And, the good news is that the Château Picard Bordeaux, which you can actually buy from StarTrekWines.com , is a legitimately good wine: well balanced, and bold, but not too alcohol forward. Essentially, if this wine had been quickly made just to be a tie-in with the TV show, it would be a little tacky. But that’s not the case. Just like there were real spaceships called Shenzhou and Discovery before those starships appeared in Star Trek , the Picard wine has existed here on Earth, well before Jean-Luc decided to engage with it.

Star Trek: Picard will hit CBS All Access on January 23. Read more about it here.

Picard behind the scenes: sets and locations.

star trek picard chateau location

The conceptualisation of La Sirena started with the character of Rios. We were fortunate enough to know enough of his backstory to let that work into the narrative design. I guess the analogy that I wanted is that Rios is kind of a warehouse of memories, and had an extensive collection of skeletons in his closet. So the idea of his ship, rather than the ship being compartmentalised and divided up - Which would work equally as well in terms of how he would partition his memories, in good and bad - It felt like it had to be this open undefined blank space. So that was the idea; what does a warehouse in space look like. And then that built upon the fact the ship was being used to deliver freight, as a tug, essentially a rig in space There were a variety of influences, predominantly maybe the Nostramo from Alien. I think it's kind of the bar for many of us that get to work in science fiction and science fantasy. I think this is such an established the general vernacular it's hard not to kind of look at that as a great place to start with. But our ship was very different as essentially the bowls were on the top, and then the cleaner spaces were kind of down, as if they - I guess the purity of Rios was in this smaller core of health and science, and where he grew his plants and peeled vegetables. So there were a lot of things as far as re-approaching how you would generally doing a ship. But the exterior, because this was not a Federation vehicle, we had the latitude to look outside of that. So we still made it terrestrial, essentially using maybe decades, if not century old technology. So the equivalent of a tugboat that's been in service for a hundred years; I think we were saying the ship  was roughly fifty years old.

What I think we wanted to do was, that this was essentially another, almost further evolved and aggressive Borg Cube. One that we've not really seen before.
So that was a little tricky to take a bit of, not a ninety degree angle, but maybe a forty-five degree angle to what had been established with the Borg. Which was an extensive amount of tubes, pipes; kind of a futurised steampunk look to a certain extent. And although we wanted to keep that look in the Borg themselves, we wanted the feel a little bit different, and essentially be completely made out of smart material, kind of the purest of the pure Borg components. as opposed to clouged and I think retrofitted with other species technology. John Eaves was very key in working with myself and Scott Schneider, another great concept set designer, in establishing what would become out Minecraft playset, almost a Lego playset, for the entire Borg Cube interiors.

This was a practical location in Solvang, but we brought in everything...it was an empty room. I particularly love the limestone sink...and, again, the fabrics, Provencal and antique French lace...
I’m truly sad that we didn’t see more of the kitchen. It was this amazing amalgamation of something from the late 1800s to 2400, it spans the gamut of 400 years because that is an old limestone sink and yet the electronics to the right, that you only see a peek of is a whole unit that we had designed and built that had the food replicator and a wine fridge and regular refrigerator. So you’ve got all the space-age circa 2400 ways to keep food, and elements from three to four different centuries in one room.”

What we did was paint every single piece grey, a real pale pale pale grey. So I reupholstered the furniture, I built a new globe, built a new desk so that we wouldn't trash everything. And all the furniture just had slip covers. We got all new books and painted them all grey, built new curtains, everything. First when they said "We want you to do all this and we're never going back there", and I was like "are you sure?" because I mean the minute I start ripping everything apart there's no going back. Especially with a lot of these pieces as they were one of a kind. So thankfully they decided they were not going to do that, we were just going to reupholstered everything so it can go back.

It's that cabin that's at the top, it was a John Candy movie, built in the 80s. Nobody had been using it - It's part of the tour when you do the backlot tour - Nobody had used it, and we renovated, and now they're like oh my gosh!

Drink in the News of Chateau Picard Wine

Wines That Rock introduces new 'Trek'-inspired wines, including one from the real Chateau Picard.

Chateau Picard Wine

StarTrek.com

Let’s all raise a toast to Wines That Rock, which has introduced Star Trek Wines – including a 2016 Chateau Picard Cru Bourgeois from Bordeaux, France, and a Special Reserve United Federation of Planets Old Vine Zinfandel -- a collection of special vintages inspired by the vast Star Trek universe.

Star Trek: Picard Trailer

Star Trek: The Next Generation fans and anyone who has seen the trailers for the upcoming Star Trek: Picard series know that Chateau Picard is Jean-Luc Picard’s family vineyard in France’s La Barre region. What they may not be aware of is the fact that Chateau Picard is also the name of an award-winning, multi-generational vineyard in the Bordeaux region of France. Wines that Rock has joined forces with the actual Chateau Picard vineyard to introduce the 2016 Chateau Picard Bordeaux, which is an 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot blend that is subtly smoky and spicy with a bright, fresh, clean-tasting style. The wine spends 14 months in oak, 70% seasoned and 30% new.

"We knew there actually was a Chateau Picard wine being made for several generations in Bordeaux France, long before there was a Jean-Luc Picard," said Howard Jackowitz, co-founder of Wines That Rock, "The actual Chateau Picard makes a Cru Bourgeois in Bordeaux that is highly regarded and sought after. Obviously, there was no mention of Star Trek ’s Jean-Luc on the bottles, as it was the legacy family’s winery from Bordeaux. No connection other than the name. So, working together with the Star Trek production team and Chateau Picard wine makers in France, we crafted this limited-edition wine with Jean-Luc’s family label and the wine from this 5th generation vineyard. It’s been a fun process!"

United Federation of Planets wine and Chataeu Picard

Then there’s the United Federation of Planets wine, a 2017 Old Vine Zinfandel from across the Dry Creek & Russian River Valleys in Sonoma County, CA. A blend of 87% Zinfandel, 12% Petit Sirah and 1% Syrah, it boasts aromatics of concentrated strawberry, blackberry and plum preserves with a chewy-layered mid-palate filled with hints of white peppercorn, sweet red and black fruit.

Wines that Rock will offer an initial 1701 two-bottle combo packs that include a numbered, limited edition of the United Federation of Planets Special Reserve, and the first 1701 collectors will also have priority notices on all future releases. Additionally, the wines will be featured this week at Star Trek Las Vegas , which runs July 31 to August 4 at the Rio Hotel & Suites.

“ Star Trek Wines has brought out the true passions of our entire team," said Jackowitz. "It was a great opportunity to work with the CBS Consumer Products team and award-winning winemakers to create a collection with such a rich backstory. Our goal has been to produce small batch, limited-edition, collectible wines that we as fans want to own. This is what we are all about: creating a product that is authentic, fun and connects with fans."

Star Trek: Why Chateau Picard Changed After The Next Generation

Introduced in Star Trek: The Next Generation, Jean-Luc Picard's iconic vineyard home has a new appearance in the Picard series for one key reason.

Star Trek 's Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) may be most at home among the stars, but canonically his actual birthplace is in La Barre, France, where the Picard clan owns an ancestral home and vineyard. This pastoral estate featured in some of the most lauded and memorable episodes of  Star Trek: The Next Generation , and it returned to screens in the 2020 spinoff series Star Trek:  Picard . However, as keen-eyed fans of the franchise may have noticed, Château Picard looks rather different in the future (well, the even farther future).

The Château plays a key role in Picard's character arc in  The Next Generation, despite only appearing in two episodes .  In the fan favorite episode "Family," it's the place he returns to while recovering emotionally from being assimilated into the Borg, a time when he's at his most vulnerable. This rare sojourn at home reveals crucial backstory about the captain , like the fact that the young spaceship-obsessed Jean-Luc was the black sheep in his traditional, technology-adverse family. It also gives him the chance to heal a painful rift between himself and his brother Robert.

RELATED:  Star Trek: How Picard and Seven of Nine Recognized Each Other

Decades later, Picard  opens with the aging and retired captain living in lonely exile on the Picard estate, with only a couple of Romulan caretakers and a dog for company. He's clearly bitter over the way his career at Starfleet ended , and his choice to confine himself to the home he once left behind is once again illustrative of the vulnerable state he is in.

Thus, the Château is more important than ever in  Picard , and it's where a good amount of the action takes place in the first few episodes. Moreover, the crew embraced this chance to update the look of the iconic home.   Director Hanelle M. Culpepper told Syfy that she had always had a problem with the location chosen for the Château in The Next Generation --  namely, that it just didn't look enough like a château. When the time came, she was determined to give the place the French countryside grandeur she thought it deserved. "I loved The Next Generation but didn't feel like the house from The Next Generation  felt like a château. It was crucial to me that felt like it was in France," she explained.

In fact, Culpepper proposed the idea of actually shooting on location in France, but the producers quickly shot that suggestion down, presumably due to budgetary restrictions. Instead, the production team found the perfect spot closer to home: a place called Sunstone Winery in Santa Ynez, California. In addition to a sprawling vineyard, the winery boasts a rustic villa built from brick and reclaimed architectural elements actually imported from France. As Culpepper said, "It's about as authentic as you can get!"

RELATED:  Star Trek: Picard Season 2 - Release Date, Trailer, Plot & News to Know

This was something of a coup for the Californian winery, which has begun to attract Trekkie tourism in the wake of Picard 's release. As stated in an  interview with general manager Dave Moser , the vineyard was a perfect match for the show's needs. "They were looking for an authentic-looking French château within driving distance of L.A.," Moser said.   The production made full use of the gorgeous locale, taking drone shots of the grounds and filming scenes with pivotal characters such as Data (Brent Spiner) , Dahj (Isa Briones) and of course Picard himself among the vines as well as around the villa.

The changes to the Château weren't limited to architecture, nor were they confined to real life. By the time  Picard begins, Jean-Luc has been living on the estate for over a decade, and futuristic technology such as watering drones and holographic screens can be seen everywhere on the grounds. Given that "Family" revealed that the Picards were vehemently opposed to such technology -- both Jean-Luc's father and brother refused to allow even a kitchen replicator in the house, much to their wives' consternation -- this is quite a transformation. Between the beauty of Santa Barbara wine country and the sleek new gadgets, the look of the new Château Picard is certainly an upgrade from its past appearance in The Next Generation .

Star Trek: Picard's first scene on a rebuilt USS Enterprise is meant to freak you out

Star Trek: Picard

Credit: Matt Kennedy / CBS

The very first shot in the very first episode of Star Trek: Picard was designed to put fans on red alert. We see the '90s-era USS Enterprise , we see Picard and Data playing poker in Ten Forward, and we can't help but ask: Is this an episode of The Next Generation ?

Star Trek: Picard is a decidedly different Trek beast than anything that has come before, and after over 50 years of space travel, the crew of this new show felt fans had to be eased into it. That meant something familiar at first — with a twist. For the director of the first three episodes of the new Star Trek series, Hanelle M. Culpepper, the goal wasn't to revel in fan service, but instead to make longtime fans feel wary of what was coming next.

Spoilers ahead for Star Trek: Picard , Season 1, Episode 1: "Remembrance."

"I feel like there wasn't too much nostalgia. There couldn't be too much nostalgia," Culpepper tells SYFY WIRE of the very first shot of the first episode of Star Trek: Picard . "The idea was to make audiences feel like they were watching The Next Generation , but it was a little bit off. We rebuilt the set [of Ten Forward] exactly as it was, as best we could. But Patrick was not in his uniform."

Culpepper explains that initially she had pushed for Picard to appear in a Starfleet uniform in the first shot, to "complete" the pseudo-deception that we were "reentering" the world of The Next Generation , but that Sir Patrick Stewart didn't want to be in uniform for the very beginning. Turns out, the Captain still calls a few shots.

"We gave in to what he felt was best. And you do get that heartwarming feeling that you're back in The Next Generation before it totally turns." A longtime director of film and television, with credits ranging from various installments of the Arrowverse to pivotal episodes of Star Trek: Discovery , Culpepper's approach to cinematography in television is artistic and specific. And she was very aware, early on, that she did not want the cinematic tone of Picard to look anything like the Discovery episodes she directed. That so much of Picard was shot on location made that easier to achieve, but there was even more thought put into it from the perspective of the way the shots were framed.

"I always wanted to distinguish it from Discovery . We moved the cameras less. We went handheld," she says. "And, because so much was shot on location, it limits the time you have, so that changes the craft. Before I was hired — because the script was so top secret — I had envisioned that Picard might be an ambassador on other planets, but it was nice to be able to shoot so much outside and in real places."

Trekkies who are planning their vacation to La Barre, France, to take a vacation at Jean-Luc Picard's wine vineyard, there's good news and bad news. For international fans and Americans who have booked non-refundable plane trips, know that the beautiful vineyard you see in Star Trek: Picard isn't really in France — it's in the United States.

"We shot Chateau Picard at Sunstone Winery in Santa Ynez, California," Culpepper explains. "I loved The Next Generation but didn't feel like the house from The Next Generation felt like a chateau. It was crucial to me that felt like it was in France, after asking the producers; 'Can we shoot in France?' and getting a big fat 'No,' we ended up finding this spot in Santa Ynez which is made of brick that is imported from France. It's about as authentic as you can get!"

As you watch Picard , you'll see various mirror images play across the frame, as though the images and light are being glimpsed through real eyes, not the static lens of a TV camera. When we're in Jean-Luc's Chateau Picard, sometimes it feels like we're catching glimpses of the characters through wine glasses or bottles, which, it turns out, is exactly what Culpepper wanted. This isn't a clean version of Star Trek ; things are a little rougher and unclear.

"I always want to dirty up my shots by finding stuff to shoot through. We shot that through bottles and crystals and stuff like that," Culpepper says. "And I liked that because I felt like he [Picard] was kind of dealing with two worlds; there's the life he's almost imprisoned himself, his life at his family's vineyard on the ground. And yet, he still feels a part of him that feels like he belongs somewhere else — that he belongs in the stars. He has unfinished business."

Star Trek: Picard is streaming now on CBS All Access.

'Star Trek' Warps Into the Wine Frontier with Château Picard

A new wine collection is inspired by Picard and the United Federation.

Actor Patrick Stewart (as Captain Jean-Luc Picard) in a scene from an episode of the television series 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' entitled 'All Good Things..., Part I,' California, May 23, 1994.

Calling all wine-loving Trekkies , Wines That Rock has released a special line of vintage, perfectly themed "Star Trek" wines that are sure to taste better than synthehol.

The collection includes wines inspired by the "Star Trek" universe and features a cabernet sauvignon and merlot blend from Bordeaux, France, inspired by "Star Trek: The Next Generation" Capt. Jean-Luc Picard, played by Patrick Stewart. Picard's family vineyard is located in the La Barre region of France, according to Trek canon.

But while Picard's family is fictionally rooted in La Barre, there is a real-life vineyard in Bordeaux, France, which goes by the name Château Picard. Interestingly, this vineyard has no relation to the fictional captain and existed long before "Star Trek" ever aired.

Wines that Rock worked with the "Star Trek" production team and paired up with Château Picard to create a Capt. Picard-inspired wine, the 2016 Château Picard Bordeaux, for this collection. This wine is "subtly smoky and spicy, with a bright, fresh, clean-tasting style," startrek.com said .

These notes seem to reflect Picard himself, but you can decide for yourself if the fresh and smoky wine emanates the captain's signature charm. The Picard-inspired wine is packed with attention to detail; the bottle features Picard's family vineyard label, which can be seen in the first teaser for "Star Trek: Picard," which is expected to air on CBS All Access by early 2020.

Wines that Rock has also debuted a second Trek wine: the 2017 United Federation of Planets Special Reserve. A zinfandel, this wine blends in petite sirah and syrah and comes from the Dry Creek and Russian River valleys in Sonoma County, California.

This wine "boasts aromatics of concentrated strawberry, blackberry and plum preserves with a chewy-layered midpalate filled with hints of white peppercorn [and] sweet red and black fruit," startrek.com said. Wines that Rock's website for the collection, " Star Trek" Wines , also describes the wine as having a "velvety mouthfeel."

The United Federation of Planets wine is bottled in distinctly Trek packaging, with a uniquely squared-off bottle that features the "Star Trek" delta and the United Federation of Planets insignia. Wines that Rock has made both wines available online , and they will also be featured this week at "Star Trek" Las Vegas.

The company is also selling 1,701 limited-edition collector packs that will include the 2016 Château Picard Bordeaux and the 2017 United Federation of Planets Special Reserve together and will be labeled 1-1,701. Don't expect your wine to arrive tomorrow, however. Due to high summer temperatures, wines purchased will not arrive until mid to late September, the company's website states.

"Our goal has been to produce small-batch, limited-edition, collectible wines that we as fans want to own. This is what we are all about: creating a product that is authentic, fun and connects with fans," Howard Jackowitz, co-founder of Wines That Rock, said to startrek.com.

29 Years Later, Star Trek Just Solved A Massive Starship Mystery

Here's how Terry Matalas brought back [SPOILERS] for Picard Season 3.

star trek picard chateau location

Of all the versions of the Starship Enterprise , the one that has appeared the most times in Star Trek canon, is, by far, the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D. After 178 episodes of The Next Generation , half of the ship got blown up in the 1994 film Generations .

The other half crashed into the planet Veridian III, but what happened to it after that? In Star Trek: Picard Season 3, we finally have a (very shocking) answer. And within that answer is perhaps the biggest nostalgia play for any science fiction franchise in recent memory.

Here’s how Picard Season 3 pulled off this massive starship comeback, complete with specific details from showrunner Terry Matalas.

Spoilers ahead!

The Enterprise-D , reborn

The Enterprise-D leaves the Fleet Museum in 'Star Trek: Picard' Season 3.

The Enterprise-D leaves the Fleet Museum in “Vox.”

In Episode 6 of Picard Season 3, Alandra La Forge (Mica Burton) hinted that her father Geordi (LeVar Burton) was hiding something in docking bay 12 of the Fleet Museum. In Episode 9, Geordi reveals that it’s a fully restored version of the Enterprise-D !

Picard asks, pointedly, “But how?” And Geordi reveals that Starfleet removed the crashed saucer section of the Enterprise-D from the surface of Verdian III in accordance with the Prime Directive (that famous Star Trek rule that says Starfleet can’t unduly influence cultures who haven’t yet developed interstellar travel on their own).

So, basically, even though Verdian III was uninhabited , the crashed ship was removed so as to “not influence the system.” In Generations , Data said the neighboring planet, Verdian IV, had a “pre-industrial society.” Meaning that just the presence of advanced technology from Starfleet in a burgeoning star system was enough to yank the ship, which actually makes a lot of sense. (It’s sort of like if an advanced alien race crashed a ship on the Moon during the Stone Age and then decided to yank it to prevent humans from finding it in the future.)

The saucer of the Enterprise-D in 'Generations.'

The crashed saucer of the Enterprise-D in Generations .

Since the saucer was only half of the Enterprise-D , Geordi tells the crew he’s been restoring the ship bit-by-bit for the past twenty years. This means that roughly since the end of Nemesis in 2379, Geordi has been, secretly, putting the pieces of the Enterprise-D back together. He reveals that this includes getting the “engines and nacelles from the USS Syracuse. This detail means the entire drive section (or engineering section) of this restored Enterprise-D actually came from a different Galaxy-class ship from which Geordi salvaged for parts.

But it’s not just the outside of the Enterprise-D that looks so familiar. The command bridge of this famous Star Trek ship also looks nearly identical to how the same set looked back in the heyday of The Next Generation from 1987 to 1994.

TNG Bridge For Picard is a real set

The TNG crew on the classic '90s bridge in 'Picard' Season 3.

The crew of the USS Enterprise-D , back on the bridge.

While some fans might assume aspects of the Enterprise-D bridge in Picard were created by CGI or AR wall technology, the truth is, everything you see here exists in the real world. “Nothing is CGI,” Terry Matalas tells Inverse . “It’s all real.” While both Discovery and Strange New Worlds utilize an AR wall for aspects of filming, the production of Picard does not.

Matalas points out that because nothing was left of the Enterprise-D set from the ‘90s, what you see in Picard Season 3 “was totally rebuilt from scratch.”

This means that Picard production designer Dave Blass , along with Michael Okuda had to utterly remake the entirety of a set that hasn’t existed since 1994. On top of that, even though the lighting of the bridge will remind fans of the brightness of the ‘90s show, Matalas points out that newer camera technology had to be taken into account to recreate the mood we all remember.

“It's a kind of hybrid actually,” Matalas explains. “It's a bit of our Titan lighting mixed with TNG old school. It had to feel authentically the old show but look right with these new cameras.”

Picard’s roundabout connection to Battlestar

The Enterprise-D in Picard Season 3

In Picard Season 3, the Enterprise-D is a lot like the Battlestar Galactica.

The return to the restored Enterprise-D isn’t just a nostalgia play though. In the context of Episode 9 and the finale, the crew needs a ship that isn’t connected to the new network of Starfleet ships. As Geordi says in the episode they need “...something older, analog, offline from the others...” This specific detail — that the Enterprise-D can survive the new Borg threat because it’s not hooked up to a larger network — might remind sci-fi fans of the basic premise of the rebooted Battlestar Galactica way back in 2003 . Spearheaded by TNG and DS9 veteran Ron Moore, the very beginning of Battlestar makes a point that the titular ship, Galactica , is not networked with other ships in the fleet because it’s much older, which, allows it to be free from the Cylon attack. Because of the writing connections between BSG and Star Trek, and Terry Matalas’ admiration for Ron Moore, was this a specific homage?

“It’s less of a nod, but impossible not to acknowledge Ron's influence on me as a writer and storyteller. No doubt those aspects of BSG are certainly burned into my brain and would be subconsciously part of the recipe,” Matalas explains. And then he goes deep into his history with the Trek franchise. Roughly twenty years ago, Matalas was a production assistant on Star Trek: Voyager , and then Star Trek: Enterprise , and around that time, something interesting happened.

“Funny story: when I was working as an assistant to Bryan Fuller, we went to lunch with Ron as BSG was just in its early stages,” Matalas recalls. “Ron enthusiastically pitched us his take for the [ BSG] miniseries — all the way to Adama's final bluff about Earth. I remember getting goosebumps and just hoping that show got made because if it did, it was like he was writing it just for me. That show would go on to inspire how I approached serialized science fiction in 12 Monkeys and then again here in this final season of Picard. So that's a long way of saying, yes, probably!”

Picard Season 3 was always headed here

Geordi (LeVar Burton) and Riker (Jonathan Frakes) in Picard Season 3, Episode 9.

Geordi (LeVar Burton) and Riker (Jonathan Frakes) on the bridge of their first Enterprise.

Because the Enterprise-D only appears in the final two episodes of Picard creating this set — in secret — was certainly one of the more costly aspects of Season 3. So, was there ever a backup plan in the writers’ room? Could the crew have ended up on a different retro starship? Was the nostalgia-filled season always going to end up this way?

In various sci-fi shows, it’s common for there to be alternate ways to tell a specific story. But, just like the inclusion of Ro Laren in Episode 5 , Matalas insists this specific reveal; that the Enterprise-D would be back for the final two episodes was one of the first ideas for this season.

“This always felt like the right way to end,” he says. “From the very beginning.”

Beam Me Up, Doctor: Russell T. Davies Breaks Down That 'Star Trek' Easter Egg in the 'Doctor Who' Premiere

"I just know how many geeks are watching, and I include myself on that list," said Davies.

The Big Picture

  • Doctor Who references Star Trek in the season premiere “Space Babies."
  • Showrunner Russell T. Davies reveals his love for Star Trek , especially newer series like Discovery and Picard , and explains he wanted to delight "geeks" like himself with the reference.
  • While a Star Trek x Doctor Who crossover isn't likely to happen anytime soon, Davies enjoys opening the door for fan theories.

When two shows about people traveling through time and space, making the universe a better place, have been on since the 60s, it’s natural to hope they’ll one day cross paths. As a huge sci-fi nerd, I was over the moon when, in the opening scenes of “Space Babies,” Ruby contextualizes traveling in the TARDIS by referencing Star Trek . This is hardly the first time Doctor Who has referenced Star Trek , with many companions making the same comparison as Ruby does, but it is, as Russell T. Davies noted in my recent chat with the showrunner, the first time the Doctor has responded as if the people and adventures of the long-running series exist in reality.

Speaking to Davies ahead of the two-episode premiere, I had to ask what motivated him to include that little quip. He explained that while he’d been a more casual viewer of the older shows like the original series and The Next Generation , it was the newer shows that really turned him into a proper Star Trek fan. “I'm coming to love Star Trek with an absolute passion,” said Davies. “I love the old show. I always watched the old show, but when Star Trek: Discovery came along, I kind of became a proper fan.” It’s always nice to see Discovery get the flowers it deserves. Responsible for kicking off the current era of Star Trek , the series gets an unreasonable amount of flack on the internet for its commitment to diversity and inclusion — two hallmarks of the entire franchise.

Davies went on to praise more of the recent Trek series, even gushing about his crush on Captain Pike — and honestly, who doesn’t have a crush on Captain Pike. “So now I'm devoted, with Picard and Strange New Worlds . Frankly, the fact that I'm not married to Captain Pike is a major problem in my life, and I look to you, Collider, to put this right, frankly. It’s a wrong that needs righting,” Davies laughed. “I love that man. Oh, god, he's beautiful, Anson Mount . What a great name.”

Will We Ever Actually Get a ‘Star Trek’ x ‘Doctor Who’ Crossover?

While there are innumerable hoops both shows would have to jump through on the legal and intellectual property side of things, the creatives behind both shows have already shown their love for each other in recent years. Despite a true crossover being almost impossible right now, Davies enjoyed opening the door for fans to theorize about the Doctor crossing paths with Starfleet. He explained:

“So I just know how many geeks are watching, and I include myself on that list. I know how many science fiction fans are out there, and I think we buzz. The interesting thing about that reference is it’s not the first time Doctor Who 's referenced Star Trek , but it is the first time Doctor Who 's referenced Star Trek as if it’s real. He says, “Let's go visit them.” So I think that should just cause excited ripples around the world. I hope.”

You can watch the Doctor talk about Star Trek in “Space Babies” right now on Disney+ and BBC iPlayer. New episodes of Doctor Who air on Fridays at 7 PM ET. Stay tuned for our full conversation with Davies.

The show follows the adventures of a Time Lord “The Doctor” who is able to regenerate, and the Doctor’s human friends. The Doctor and companion’s journey through time and space in the TARDIS – a time-traveling ship shaped like a police box – saving the universe with a combination of wit, bravery, and kindness.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Returning Cast & New Character Guide

Star trek: discovery proves ds9's dominion war still matters 800 years later, star trek: discovery’s breen go too far beyond other enemy alien ships.

Warning: SPOILERS for Star Trek: Discovery Season 5, Episode 7 - "Erigah"

  • Star Trek: Discovery season 5, Episode 7, "Erigah," references the monumental year 2371 of the Star Trek universe.
  • The year 2371 featured significant expansions in the Star Trek franchise with multiple TV series and a movie.
  • References to Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager enrich the storytelling in Discovery season 5.

Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 7, "Erigah" calls back to the year 2371, which is one of the most monumental time periods of Star Trek: The Next Generation 's 24th century era. Written by M. Raven Metzner and directed by Jon Dudkowski, "Erigah" sees Commander Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp), Lt. Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman), Ensign Adira Tal (Blu del Barrio), and Cleveland Booker (David Ajala) team up to determine the location of the fifth and final clue to the Progenitors' ancient treasure: a novel titled "Labyrinths of the Mind" written by Betazoid scientist Dr. Marina Derex in 2371.

2371 is a milestone year that marked a major expansion of the Star Trek franchise. In the real world, the events of 2371 in Star Trek equate to the years 1994 and 1995, which saw Star Trek Generations , the first Star Trek: The Next Generation movie, arrive in theaters in November 1994. At the same time, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was in its third season, while Star Trek: Voyager launched in January 1995. For the first time, two Star Trek TV series were on the air while there was a Star Trek movie in theaters. Star Trek 's year 2371 encompasses 50 combined episodes of DS9 and Voyager as well as Star Trek Generations . And now, Star Trek: Discovery 's final clue to the Progenitors' treasure points to a book written during that fateful year of 2371.

Star Trek: Discovery season 5 is a sequel to Star Trek: The Next Generation 's season 6 episode, "The Chase," and contains more references to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager than ever before.

As Burnham seeks the universe's greatest treasure in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, she'll need help from a host of new and returning characters.

What Happened In Star Trek Generations In 2371

The first star trek: the next generation movie saw captain kirk meet captain picard.

Star Trek Generations is set in 2371, months after the end of Star Trek: The Next Generation . In Star Trek Generations, Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) discovered Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner), who was believed to have died in 2293, was alive in the interdimensional reality called the Nexus. Kirk joined Picard in returning to 2371 to stop Dr. Tolian Soran (Malcolm McDowell) from destroying the Veridian sun. Tragically, Kirk died in the effort to stop Soran and was buried by Picard on Veridan III.

Captain Kirk's remains were moved into storage at Section 31's black site, Daystrom Station, as seen in Star Trek: Picard season 3.

Another significant event in Star Trek Generations was the destruction of the USS Enterprise-D. The Galaxy Class flagship of the United Federation of Planets saw its stardrive section destroyed by a Klingon attack, and its separated saucer section crash-landed on Veridian III. In addition, Worf (Michael Dorn) was promoted to Lieutenant Commander while Data (Brent Spiner) activated his emotion chip and struggled with his rampant feelings. Captain Picard also learned his family in La Barre, France, died in a house fire.

The USS Enterprise-D was restored by Commodore Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton) and saved the galaxy one last time in Star Trek: Picard season 3.

What Happened On Star Trek: Deep Space Nine In 2371

The seeds of the dominion war were planted on ds9.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine season 3 took place in 2371, and it set the stage for the Dominion War that would alter the fate of the galaxy as the Federation becomes aware of the authoritarian threat coming from the Gamma Quadrant. Commander Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) and members of Deep Space Nine's crew time-travel to the 21st century where Sisko took the place of Gabriel Bell in the infamous San Francisco Bell Riots. Lt. Thomas Riker (Jonathan Frakes), joined the Maquis and posed as Commander William Riker to steal the USS Defiant, which led to his imprisonment on Cardassia.

The Federation learns that the Dominion's shapeshifting Founders have infiltrated the Alpha Quadrant.

Later in 2371, Benjamin Sisko is promoted to Captain, and he and his son, Jake (Cirroc Lofton), sail to Cardassia on a solar ship like ancient Bajorans did. The Bajoran-Cardassia Peace Treaty is signed as Shakaar Edon (Duncan Regehr) becomes First Minister of Bajor. The female Changeling (Salome Jens) sets a trap to force Constable Odo (Rene Auberjonois) admit his love for Major Kira Nerys (Nana Visitor). By the end of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine season 3 , the Federation learns that the Dominion's shapeshifting Founders have infiltrated the Alpha Quadrant, and the Cardassian Obsidian Order and Romulan Tal Shiar are severely crippled after a failed attack on the Dominion.

What Happened On Star Trek: Voyager In 2371

Year one of the uss voyager's journey home from the delta quadrant.

Star Trek: Voyager season 1 and the first episode of season 2, "The 37s" (which was originally intended as Voyager season 1's finale) take place in 2371. Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) assembles the crew of the USS Voyager to find the Maquis ship Val Jean in the Badlands, but both starships are transported 75,000 lightyears into the Delta Quadrant by the Caretaker. Joined by the Talaxian Neelix (Ethan Phillips) and the Ocampan Kes (Jennifer Lien), the USS Voyager absorbs the Maquis into its Starfleet crew as a measure of survival, and the Intrepid Class starship begins a long journey home to Earth.

The USS Voyager's first year in the Delta Quadrant saw them encounter the villainous Kazon. Ensign Seska (Martha Hackett) reveals herself as a Cardassian spy and joins the Kazon, while Ensign Samantha Wildman (Nancy Hower) learns she is pregnant with her daughter, Naomi Wildman (Scarlett Pomers). To kick off Star Trek: Voyager season 2, the USS Voyager discovers the missing 20th century pilot Amelia Earhart (Sharon Lawrence), who was abducted and brought to the Delta Quadrant by the Briori. But while all that and more happened in Star Trek in 2371, Dr. Marina Derex published "Labyrinths of the Mind" , and she would hide her clue to the Progenitors' treasure in her original manuscript stored in the Eternal Gallery and Archive for Star Trek: Discovery to find.
