MS The World ship has a total of 165x Residences ranging in types from Studios to 3-Bedroom Penthouses and 6-Bedroom Penthouse Suite (for up to 12 passengers). All staterooms have been sold, but there are a number of Residences which are available for resale and some for rental.

There are also additional annual maintenance fees based on apartments' square footage. The cruise ship provides 40x studios, 19x 1-Bedroom and 2-Bedroom Studio Apartments, 106x 2-Bedroom and 3-Bedroom Apartments, 88x Suites. Prices vary and are based on size, deck location, decor, market conditions.

Four of the world's most renowned interior design companies have been contracted to shape styles and design The World ship's 2- and 3-bedroom apartments and public rooms. Names list includes Nina Campbell (UK), Juan Pablo Molyneux (JP Molyneux Studio), Di Pilla (TMT Design), Yran & Storbraaten (maritime design).

Cabins prices (apartment cost, rentals, fees)

First of all, this is a modern big-sized cruise liner you can actually live on. Celebrities like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Madonna, for example, own suites on the vessel. So if you can afford the below apartment prices, you'll buy yourself the pleasure to enjoy a celebrity company - once and awhile. Apartments sizes vary from 1350 ft2 (125 m2) to 3000 ft2 (280 m2) "cruise ship mansions".

MS The World cruise ship cabin (window apartment)

Short-term rentals - you can rent some of MS The World's apartments (depending on category) for between ~USD 550 Studio (per person per night, min for 5 days) and ~USD 20,000 (Suite rentals, per month). Some Ocean Residences are also available for rent at ~USD 2100 a day. Discounts are available for repeat customers.

Future apartment owners on The World should also know that ship service fees (depending on the property) start from USD 60,000 and go up to USD 300,000 a year. These fees cover onboard service staff/crew, fuel, maintenance (including drydocking ), port charges, food and beverages. USD 8 million is the entry fee. This amount of money buys you a lease expiring in the distant 2052. As to the maintenance fees mentioned above - they are ~5-6% of the Apartment's sale price. As to the ship's occupancy - it rarely goes above 200 passengers (owners and their guests).

The ResidenSea company has the policy of not revealing who the clients/buyers are, but they assure that MS The World doesn't have residents with criminal records. Latest news confirms that all the ship's Studios and 3-Bedroom apartments are sold out. But there's always a chance some owner to decide to sell, right? And to sweeten the deal, they advertise that you can enjoy on The World ship - for absolutely free - Spa treatments at "Clinique La Prairie", to shop at the Graff's Boutique or to leisurely play at the ship's Mini-Golf Course. If you are a prospective buyer, you also must submit a list of your assets, which will be duly verified by the ResidenSea's accountants and lawyers.

W hile Royal Caribbean’s Ultimate World Cruise , a nine-month voyage that started in December 2023, made a lot of noise on social media, it’s certainly not the only around-the-world cruise on the market right now. Far from it. There are 35 world cruises departing in 2024, 2025, and 2026 across 11 cruise lines, all with varying itineraries, durations, and prices, allowing you to take your pick. Because if you want to take a very long vacation, or travel while working remotely, there are few better ways than boarding a ship that circumnavigates the globe and stops in dozens of destinations, sometimes even covering all seven continents.

Holland America’s Grand World Voyages

Holland America has two around-the-world cruises (known as Grand World Voyages) scheduled for the next two years:

A 124-day sailing on board the Zuiderdam that will start on January 4, 2025, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and end on May 9, 2025, in the same location. The cruise will include stops in 32 countries and will include 10 overnight stays. This around-the-world cruise starts at $24,999.
A 132-day voyage on board the Volendam that will depart on January 4, 2026, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and end in the same port. The cruise will include stops in 39 countries across all seven continents, including four days in Antarctica. The starting price is currently unavailable. Bookings for this cruise will open in May 2024.

Viking’s World Cruises

Viking has no less than five world cruises scheduled for the next two years: two departing in December 2024, two in January 2025, and one in January 2026. The longest of the five is the 180-day (nearly six months) V iking World Voyage I which will start on December 19, 2024, from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and end on June 17, 2025, in New York City. This voyage will cover 37 countries and include stops in the Arctic, namely in Greenland, Svalbard, and along the coast of Norway. This around-the-world cruise starts at $111,999.

Oceania Cruises’ World Cruises

Oceania Cruises currently has a total of six around-the-world cruises scheduled for 2025 and 2026, ranging from 120-day to 200-day sailings. Of those six cruises, three will take place on Insignia, and three will take place on Vista, the cruise line’s newest and most luxurious ship. Both these vessels are small ships: Insignia, refurbished in 2018 can carry up to 670 passengers, while Vista, built in 2023, can carry up to 1,200 passengers. The longest of the world cruises offered by Oceania is a 200-day voyage starting in Miami on January 5, 2025, and ending in New York City on July 23, 2025. The trip will cover 38 countries, make 103 stops, and include sailing around the southernmost tip of Africa, Cape Agulhas, to reach the Indian Ocean from the Atlantic Ocean, as well as two days in the magical island of Madagascar. This around-the-world cruise starts at $49,799.

Cunard’s Full World Voyages

Cunard, the cruise line operating the famous Queen Mary II, the last transatlantic ocean liner in service, offers seven around-the-world cruises scheduled in the next two years. Six of the seven world cruises currently listed will be taking place on board the cruise line’s newest ship, the Queen Anne, launching in May 2024, and one will take place on board the Queen Mary II. The longest of the world cruises (called Full World Voyages by Cunard) is a 116-day sailing on board the Queen Anne that will depart on January 6, 2026, from Hamburg, Germany, and end in the same port on May 2, 2026. The trip will cover 26 countries, make 37 port calls, include several stops in the Middle East, and will take passengers around the southernmost tip of Africa. This around-the-world cruise starts at $20,118.

Silversea’s World Cruises

Ultra-luxury cruise line Silversea currently has two around-the-world cruises scheduled:

Controtempo , a 136-day sailing on board the Silver Dawn departing from Tokyo, Japan, on January 13, 2025, and arriving in New York City on May 29, 2025. This cruise will cover 30 countries, make stops in 59 ports, and include port calls in Saudi Arabia and Greenland. The all-inclusive, door-to-door price of this around-the-world cruise starts at $81,900
The Curious and the Sea , a 140-day sailing also on board the Silver Dawn, departing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on January 6, 2026, and ending in Lisbon, Portugal, on May 27, 2026. This cruise will cover 37 countries, make a total of 70 port calls, and include a multitude of stops throughout the Mediterranean, in the South Pacific, and on Rapa Nui (Easter Island). The all-inclusive, door-to-door price of this around-the-world cruise starts at $89,900

MSC’s World Cruises

MSC Cruises will take adventurous passengers on two world cruise in the next two years, both of which will take place on MSC Magnifica:

A 116-night sailing departing from Civitavecchia (Rome) on January 4, 2025, and ending in the same port. This around-the-world cruise will cover 21 countries on five continents, make 50 port calls, and take passengers across the Atlantic with one stop in Cabo Verde on the way, as well as across the Pacific with multiple stops, including one on Rapa Nui (Easter Island). This around-the-world cruise starts at $11,989.
A 119-day sailing from January to May 2026 departing from Civitavecchia (Rome). This around-the-world cruise will cover 32 countries, include a crossing of the Panama Canal, as well as the Suez Canal, and make overnight stops in Honolulu, Auckland, Sydney, Dubai, and Tokyo, among others. This around-the-world cruise starts at $13,439.

Princess’ Around-the-World Cruises

Princess Cruises has five world cruises scheduled, including two in 2024, two in 2025, and one in 2026, the longest of them being a 116-day sailing on board the Island Princess departing in January 2025. This around-the-world cruise will depart and end from both Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Los Angeles, California (you take your pick), making 48 port calls in 26 countries across six continents. Passengers will get to cross both the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans during this trip, and will make stops in dreamy destinations like Hawaii, Fiji, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and more. This around-the-world cruise starts at $24,298.

Azamara’s World Cruises

There are two world cruises currently on Azamara Cruises’ schedule: One in 2025 and one in 2026, and both of them are 155-night voyages.

The 2025 Azamara World Cruise will start in San Diego, California, on January 6, 2025, and end in Southampton, England, on June 11, 2025. Passengers on board this world cruise will visit 37 countries and spend 46 late nights or overnights in the destinations visited. Port calls include four days in Hawaii, five days in French Polynesia, 10 days in New Zealand, and more. This around-the-world cruise starts at $39,999.
The 2026 Azamara World Cruise will start in Miami, Florida, on January 6, 2026, and end in Barcelona, Spain, on June 11, 2026. This sailing covers 36 countries and includes 55 late nights or overnights in the port calls. The 124-day sailing on board the Crystal Serenity will depart from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on January 7, 2025, and end in Barcelona, Spain, on May 10, 2025. Passengers on board this around-the-world cruise will get to visit 63 destinations in 31 countries, go through both the Panama Canal and the Suez Canal, visit Rio de Janeiro during Carnival, stop in the remote Atlantic island of St. Helena, and visit Petra, Jordan. The starting price of this around-the-world cruise is not available on Crystal Cruises’ website. Fred. Olsen’s World Cruise

UK-based cruise line Fred. Olsen Cruises has planned an epic 106-night around-the-world cruise for 2025. The Bolette (the largest ship in the fleet, able to accommodate 1,338 guests) will leave the port of Southampton, England, on January 6, 2025, and circumnavigate the globe westward via Cape Horn, the southernmost tip of South America, and Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa, until it reaches England again on April 22, 2025. During this trip, passengers will be able to visit remote islands such as Robinson Crusoe Island, Rapa Nui (Easter Island), Pitcairn Island, and St. Helena. This around-the-world cruise starts at $20,493 for an Ocean View cabin with two portholes. The price for the interior cabins are not currently available.

P&O’ World Cruise Holidays

British cruise line P&O has two around-the-world cruises (known as World Cruise Holidays) on their schedule for 2025 and 2026, both of which are complete circumnavigation of the globe on board Arcadia.

Western Circumnavigation , a 99-night sailing that will depart from Southampton, England, on January 3, 2025 and return to the same port on April 13, 2025. The cruise will include stops in the Caribbean, in Hawaii, in islands of the South Pacific, and throughout Oceania, Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. This around-the-world cruise starts at $12,295.

Which company spends the most per vessel? That would be Royal Caribbean! On average, RCCL writes a check for $669 million for each new ship!

How Much Does a Cruise Ship Cost to Build... by Cabin

This chart shows average cost by cruise cabin. That allows us to account for ship size and "normalize" the cost data. When buying an apartment building, you'd mostly like value it based on total number of units. Each apartment will command $X in rent. Similarly, each cruise cabin generates $Y in revenue.

It's no surprise that the smaller ships rise to the top. These brands are considered "premium lines." The drastic differences in price are obvious. Seabourn ships have cruise staterooms valued at more than 5x the cost of cabins on Pullmantur!

Why did we use cabins as a proxy for size ?

To get the most of this analysis, you'll want to compare ships with a similar quantity of cabins. Compare SAGA and Fred Olsen ships. The average roughly the same number of cabins per ship. SAGA spends over 2x the amount on a per cabin basis!

The data won't completely represent the full picture. Celebrity has massive ships carrying over 3k passengers and also the Xploration with a capacity of 16 cruisers! To avoid this issue you'll want to check out our complete list of ships by cost below.

Cruise Ship Cost Increase Over Time

We also looked at how much does a cruise ship cost to build today vs. in the past ? We expected an increase and were not disappointed! The chart below shows the average price tag of ships throughout the decades.

The blue bars show actual dollars spent. The green line depicts "cost in today's dollars." These figures were derived using an average inflation rate of 3.22%.

It's clear that prices have grown significantly ! Both in terms of actual dollars and inflation-adjusted costs.

Even with the current speed bump in the industry, we expect this to continue. Vessels are continuously adding capacity and extravagant (read "expensive") features. The average cost per cruise ship is quickly approaching one billion dollars !

Cruise Ship Total Value by Cruise Company

You may have counted almost 30 cruise brands included above. Don't be fooled . There aren't that many big cruise companies out there. The chart below is likely to surprise you. The list of cruise companies is much smaller. Two companies (Carnival & Royal Caribbean) own nearly 75% of the entire industry !

Many passengers have sailed Oceania or Cunard and had no clue they were owned by NCL or Carnival. It's always entertaining to hear a passenger make fun of "Carnival" as they proudly book their next Seabourn vacation. Carnival Corp. owns both brands!

Here Are the Basics of Disney Cruise Line

Last month, a reader asked for guidance with their first Disney Cruise Line booking. While I’m hopeful this individual took advantage of the all the info provided by DVC Fan to answer their questions, I realized I was long overdue to write a cruise guide. Here are the basics of Disney Cruise Line for DVC members.

What Is Disney Cruise Line?

In 1995, The Walt Disney Company decided to stop licensing its name to another cruise company. Thus, Disney Cruise Line (DCL) was born, although the maiden voyage wouldn’t occur until 1998. So, Disney’s official cruise business is roughly a quarter-century old.

Initially, Disney’s “fleet” consisted of just two ships, the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder. In 2011 and 2012, DCL’s popularity led to the introduction of the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy. The first two vessels could host up to 2,700 passengers, while the newer, larger ships expanded maximum occupancy to 4,000.

That quick growth underscores the immediate popularity of Disney cruises. Tourists loved that they could take family vacations around the world while protected by the Disney brand. Not coincidentally, DCL frequently wins awards and honors as the family-friendly cruise line.

What differentiates DCL is the sheer volume of itineraries available. For example, in the summer of 2025 alone, you can take Disney cruises to Alaska, Europe, and the Eastbound Transatlantic. Two of those options allow you to visit multiple countries during a dream vacation.

Even better, you’re ensconced in the warmth of the Disney Bubble the whole time. DVC has purchased two private islands, Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay as a way of extending the Disney aura to its most popular cruises.

That statement also explains the surging popularity of Disney cruises. While we all treasure theme park vacations, DVC fans know how hectic those can be. On a Disney cruise, you receive the same world-class treatment but with a more pampered, relaxed experience. You primarily eat, drink, shop, and play.

What Should You Know about Disney Cruises?

This open-ended question comes with many answers. As a DVC member, you should understand a few basics, though.

The first is that you can exchange your DVC Points for cruises. However, I’ll say the same thing about this transaction that I did when Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser opened. It’s a terrible use of your points.

You can verify this by glancing at the DVC Points Chart . Please remember that DCL presumes double occupancy, so you must double the points for everything listed here. The thought of that probably gave you sticker shock. DVC Fan agrees with you.

Fortunately, you’ll find a better option at DVC Rental Store . You can exchange your precious DVC Points for a cruise . Plus, you’ll discover a far superior exchange rate.

Once you have the business side of the conversation worked out, here are a few other important factors to consider. For starters, you’ll discover a plethora of booking options, with cruises lasting as little as three days or as much as…well, you’ll need more vacation time to fit in the longest cruises. Some last for 15 nights!

You’ll also need to decide where you want to go. Cruises travel to at least five different continents. With Adventures by Disney, you could actually do all seven, but that’s a side discussion. The point is that DCL will happily take you wherever you want.

Let’s Talk Cruise Ship Experiences

You should also evaluate the various cruise ships to identify your favorite. That’s easier said than done. Instinctively, you may choose one of the newest ships, the Disney Wish or the Disney Treasure.

However, at least one travel expert prefers the Disney Wonder and the Disney Magic, the two oldest ships in the fleet. These vessels are smaller, more intimate, and feature a user-friendly design.

Conversely, the Wish and Treasure offer state-of-the-art amenities. For example, the Wish hosts Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge, an absolutely stunning bar. You’ll find glow drinks and a remarkable interstellar view while you hang out here.

The Treasure will up the ante with a new lounge based on Haunted Mansion! Also, another drinking area will offer a 20,000 Leagues under the Sea theme.

What Is Rotational Dining?

Then, we have the rotational dining options. That’s a term that indicates you’ll eat at three different restaurants during your trip. Each night at dinner, you’ll rotate to a different meal.

On the Wish, one of those restaurants is Worlds of Marvel , a dining experience that includes a mini-Marvel movie called Avengers: Quantum Encounter.

Somehow, that’s not even the most popular option. Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Experience is a live show hosted by Oaken from the Frozen franchise. It’s a celebration of Queen Anna’s engagement to Kristoff. The restaurant features an in-the-round design so that you can watch the show from any table. It’s spectacular.

You’ll also have your choice of eating at one of the upscale restaurants. These dining experiences aren’t included with the cruise booking, meaning you must pay extra. Tourists consider these meals worth the price due to their glowing reviews.

On the Disney Wish, the options include 1923, Palo Steakhouse, and Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallement. With 1923, you’ll celebrate the start of The Walt Disney Company via wall art and commemorative photos. Conversely, Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallement provides a luxurious dining take on Beauty and the Beast. Meanwhile, Palo Steakhouse is all about the fine dining experience itself.

You’ll find variations on this premise across the DCL fleet. So, I’d strongly encourage you to do a bit of homework. You’ll want to decide which restaurants, lounges, and so forth fit your style.

Disney Cruises Offer Even More

You should know that every Disney cruise ship features live entertainment and so much more. We’re talking about shows based on Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Tangled, and several other of your Disney favorites.

On the ships, you’ll also discover several pools, hot tubs, and even a luxury spa onboard. Disney will host character experiences and even nightly fireworks at sea.

On all the cruise ships, you’ll find a waterslide that encompasses much of the vessel. The Wish takes the premise a step further by creating the AquaMouse, the first Disney attraction at sea.

Finally, I’ll add that with Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point opening soon, DCL owns two different private islands now. So, you can decide whether you’d prefer to visit the classic location, Castaway Cay, or the new hotness, Lookout Cay. Of course, that presumes you’re traveling to this area rather than somewhere like Europe or Alaska.

Given the above, you can tell that your options are plentiful. Disney cruises have vastly expanded their offerings recently, and the best is yet to come. I didn’t even mention the Disney Adventure, joining DCL in 2025.

Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas will be the world's biggest new cruise ship.

Originally built for the Chinese cruise market in 2019, Carnival Venezia first sailed throughout Asia under the Costa Cruises brand. Icon of the Seas: January 2024

Icon of the Seas is the first Icon-class vessel in the Royal Caribbean International fleet – and the first new class of ship since 2014. When the massive vessel debuts in January 2024, it will replace Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas as the largest ship at sea (Icon of the Seas is 6% larger). The ship features eight distinct neighborhoods – including the new Surfside neighborhood, a colorful space geared toward family fun with kids clubs, Splashaway Bay, themed eateries and bars, adjacent staterooms and more.

There are four additional new neighborhoods as well. Thrill Island features Category 6, the largest water park at sea, while Chill Island boasts the line's first swim-up bar and The Hideaway features the first suspended infinity pool at sea. AquaDome, the impressive glass-enclosed space at the top of the ship, is home to the AquaTheater, panoramic ocean views, a waterfall, and bars and restaurants.

Sun Princess: February 2024

Sun Princess will have many new attractions when it launches in early 2024. When Queen Anne launches in spring 2024, it will be Cunard Line's 249th ship since the company's inception in 1840, and the line's first new vessel in 14 years. The 3,000-passenger ship will feature a fresh, modern design, yet still give a nod to the Cunard's art deco past.

Once on board, guests will discover new entertainment venues like the Bright Lights Society show bar and more wide-open spaces throughout the ship, as well as Cunard 's first two-story theater. New international dining options include Japanese restaurant Aji Wa with sushi and omakase menus, plus Indian cuisine at Aranya. Queen Anne also offers an extensive health and wellness program in collaboration with health group Mareel that features a large thermal suite, a spa pool and a top-deck wellness studio.

Utopia of the Seas: July 2024

Utopia of the Seas will be Royal Caribbean's sixth (and final) Oasis-class ship when it debuts in summer 2024. With a capacity of 5,668 passengers, the vessel will join the line's other Oasis- and Icon-class ships as the largest cruise ships sailing on the high seas. The ship will have the same eight neighborhoods as other Oasis-class ships, including Central Park, The Boardwalk and the Pool & Sports Zone.

The 40-plus food and beverage options will include new additions like the Pesky Parrot bar and a themed "mixed reality" dining experience that takes place on a train. A reimagined playscape is another addition, with nets, games, puzzles, slides and climbing walls for junior cruisers. The line's Ultimate Abyss – a dry slide with 10 stories of thrilling twists and turns – will now stretch an additional 43 feet, making it the longest dry slide at sea.

Explora II: August 2024

Top feature: Luxurious cabins

Fares begin around: $4,500 per person (double occupancy) for a seven-night Mediterranean cruise

Sails to: Caribbean and Central America, Mediterranean, Arabian Peninsula and Red Sea, India, Indian Ocean and Africa

As sister ship to Explora I, Explora II will offer the same transformative travel experience for 922 guests. The luxury vessel will feature 461 oceanfront suites with private terraces. Cruisers can take advantage of 11 culinary options across six dining venues, a dozen indoor and outdoor bars and lounges, and a Chef's Kitchen. Guests will also have access to four pools, 64 private cabanas and wellness facilities.

Silver Ray: Summer 2024

Silver Ray, Silversea's second Nova-class ship, is scheduled to set sail in summer 2024. The 728-passenger, low-emissions vessel will offer the same advanced hybrid fuel technologies as its sister ship, Silver Nova. It will also have Silver Nova's horizontal layout and asymmetrical design, creating more open public areas and providing suites with 270-degree views. In addition, guests on board the luxury vessel will have their choice of eight dining venues and a wide selection of bars and lounges, including The Marquee, a new alfresco restaurant.

Viking Vela: December 2024

Measuring 748 feet long and 101 feet wide, Viking Vela will be the line's largest ship when it debuts at the end of 2024. Seasoned Viking cruisers can look forward to favorites like The Nordic Spa, the Wintergarden, Mamsen's, the Explorers' Lounge, the Sports Deck, Manfredi's Italian Restaurant and The Chef's Table.

Disney Treasure: December 2024

Top feature: Debut of new Disney Parks-inspired onboard venues

Sails to: Eastern and Western Caribbean, Castaway Cay (Disney Cruise Line's private island)

Fans of Disney Cruise Line will find many familiar venues, attractions and restaurants on the new Disney Treasure, sister ship of Disney Wish . However, there will also be plenty of new features, including the theme of the ship: adventure. The Grand Hall, inspired by the movie "Aladdin," is designed with dark shades of blue, turquoise and gold and features a golden statue of a magic carpet with Aladdin and Jasmine.

Plaza de Coco replaces Disney Wish's "Frozen" dining experience with a two-night Mexican, "Coco"-themed theatrical dinner show. Meanwhile, "Disney The Tale of Moana" – a Broadway-style production based on the film "Moana" – will be exclusive to Disney Treasure. Adults will also find new lounges, such as the Jungle Cruise-themed Skipper Society and the Periscope Pub, which is inspired by "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." Disney Treasure can carry up to 4,000 passengers.

MSC World America: Spring 2025

MSC's new futuristic ship – and sister ship to MSC World Europa – will be based in Miami and sail the Caribbean. The LNG-powered, 6,762-passenger ship will offer more than 420,000 square feet of public space and many of the attractions found on World Europa, such as the MSC Luna Park Arena and World Galleria. There will also be more than 30 dining venues, bars and lounges, as well as the line's private enclave, MSC Yacht Club.

Oceania Allura: June 2025

Oceania Allura will be the eighth ship in Oceania's fleet, the second vessel of the line's Allura class and the sister ship to Oceania Vista. The 1,200-passenger Allura will offer the same upscale amenities as Vista, as well as a new Chef's Studio and one of the highest space-to-guest and staff-to-guest ratios in the cruise industry. Allura is scheduled to debut in June 2025.

Star Princess: August 2025

Star Princess is scheduled to set sail in 2025 as the sister ship to Sun Princess. The 4,300-passenger, LNG-powered ship will offer the same features as Sun Princess, including the Dome, the Piazza and the line's Signature Collection Suites. The vessel will also have 29-plus restaurants and bars.

Star of the Seas: Summer 2025

Royal Caribbean plans to introduce Star of the Seas – the second Icon-class vessel and sister to Icon of the Seas – in summer 2025.

Disney Cruise Line: 2025

Disney purchased the former Global Dream from Genting's Dream Cruises in 2022, when it was still being built at the German shipyard MV Werften. Disney plans to base the ship in Singapore for at least five years, offering Disney vacations to the Southeast Asian market. When it launches in 2025, the vessel will be the line's seventh ship and is expected to carry 6,000 passengers. Another newly built, currently unnamed Disney ship is planned to debut in 2025, as well.

Norwegian Cruise Line: 2025 and beyond

The third Prima-class ship is expected to be approximately 10% larger than the first ship in the class, Norwegian Prima (143,535 gross tons). The following ships for the line are anticipated to be even larger, with the fifth and sixth Prima-class vessels (debuting in 2027 and 2028) weighing as much as 171,000 gross tons.

Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity's fifth Edge-class ship will be more eco-friendly, thanks to the addition of a new tri-fueled engine model and the capacity to store three different kinds of fuel, including methanol. The effort toward net-zero emissions and more sustainable cruising is a partnership between Royal Caribbean, the French shipyard Chantiers de L'Atlantique and the technology firm Wärtsilä. A debut date for this ship has not yet been announced.

Travelers Championship Final Payouts, Prize Money, Winnings: Scottie Scheffler Wins $3.6 Million

Scottie Scheffler headlines the field at the Travelers this week.

The PGA returned this week straight off the U.S. Open with another signature event, this time the annual Connecticut stop at the Travelers Championship. It's a big-money event on Tour, with a $20 million purse up for grabs and $3.6 million to the winner.

And if it's a signature event, it's a Scottie Scheffler week. The world No. 1 got back to being himself this week after a tough U.S. Open and picked up a sixth win on the season, all of which are top-shelf titles. He's won the Masters, the Players and four signature events: the Arnold Palmer Invitational, RBC Heritage, Memorial Tournament and now the Travelers.

Scheffler won on the first playoff hole over Tom Kim, following a wild protest scene at the 72nd hole which required a new hole location to be cut for the playoff.

Carnival Corp Raises Profit Forecast Again on Steady Cruise Demand

June 25 (Reuters) – Carnival Corp raised its annual profit forecast on Tuesday for the second time this year, banking on higher prices for its itineraries and sustained demand from Americans for cruise holidays.

The company’s U.S.-listed shares, which have fallen more than 11% this year, rose 6.71% to $17.48.

2024 has been a record year for cruise operators, with booking volumes hitting an all-time high as travelers continue to seek out newer experiences and fun activities at affordable rates, giving companies room to hike ticket prices to offset elevated operating costs.

“The company continues to experience strong bookings momentum driven by record booking volumes for 2025 sailings,” Carnival CEO Josh Weinstein said.

“While still early, the cumulative advanced booked position for full year 2025 is even higher than 2024 in both price (in constant currency) and occupancy.”

Carnival’s total customer deposits during the second quarter reached an all-time high of $8.3 billion, surpassing the previous record by $1.1 billion, the company said.

The cruise operator reported a second-quarter profit of 7 cents per share. Analysts had expected a loss of 2 cents per share, according to LSEG data.

“Carnival’s net debt remains stubbornly high at $27.7 billion,” Derren Nathan, equity analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown, said.

“With the second quarter typically being the strongest for cash generation there may not be too much further movement (in reducing debt) this year.”

Carnival said it prepaid $1.6 billion of debt during the second quarter on the back of strong liquidity and improved financial performance.

Cruise costs per available lower berth day, or the passenger capacity of a ship while it is sailing and in service, rose 4% during the second quarter.

Carnival now expects 2024 adjusted profit per share of about $1.18, compared with its earlier forecast of 98 cents.

Rivals Royal Caribbean Group and Norwegian Cruise Line have also raised their annual profit targets in recent months.

6 things every first-time cruise traveler should know

Not all cruise vacations are the same. There are an increasingly diverse array of sailings for nearly every type of traveler — luxury cruise expeditions, family-friendly voyages and even mass-market cruise lines that are more adult-oriented and, well, just a bit cheeky.

Earlier this summer, I went into my first cruise vacation as an adult with an open mind — and an empty stomach.

As a writer who focuses on land-and-air-based exploration, I’ll admit that a cruise is out of my typical travel comfort zone. Beyond the floating-hotel-at-sea concept that makes novice cruisers a bit apprehensive, a cruise required me to give someone else full control of an itinerary. In other words, much of my type-A travel planning and intense oversight of a trip had to go out of the window — or in this case, out the ship’s porthole.

A cruise’s schedule is laid out before you — day by day, hour by hour. You know which port of call you will arrive and depart from at a given time, and there’s even a daily printout of the happenings and events onboard. However, it’s not all just handed to you on a silver platter either; there are still quite a bit of adjustments to get that first cruise just right.

Here are six lessons from my first time cruising, from costs to planning.

1. Manage expectations for what you can see on land

For this trip, I went on a week-long sailing in the Mediterranean on the 1,400-cabin Valiant Lady , one of three medium-sized vessels that are currently sailing under Richard Branson’s Virgin Voyages line. While this specific itinerary meant many stops along the rugged French and Spanish coastline, it also prompted a very rookie mistake — trying to do too much in one port of call.

Don’t try to cram in everything while on land. Not only will it be rushed, but you won’t be able to get a proper feel for a destination. On most sailings, you’re only docked for a set period during the day (or at most, one night).

I learned this the hard way on one of our first port days, trying to squeeze in sightseeing the city of Nice, the medieval village of Eze and the nation of Monaco, all in one day. (Yes, in hindsight, it’s a clear what-are-you-thinking moment.)

For cruises where you’re in a place for less than 24 hours, the whole point is really to get a preview of a destination; not to fully immerse. Here’s what I’d recommend instead: Pick one activity — say sea kayaking along the French Riviera — or explore one specific neighborhood (in my case, one city) to give yourself plenty of time to make it back to the ship.

2. Research the vibe of your cruise line and ship

Cruise lines — and even specific ships — take all forms of shapes and sizes, with each having a specific vibe. Don’t be fooled by a one-size-fits-all cruiser stereotype.

There are the boomer cruise lines. The family cruise lines. The gay cruises. The nudist cruises. You get the idea.

Virgin Voyages made a splash for being adults-only since its inaugural sailing in 2021. Travelers under the age of 18 years old aren’t allowed onboard. The Virgin branding is also a bit irreverent and caters to a diverse and eclectic crowd. It’s a little suggestive, a little risqué, and sometimes a lot of both. A significant portion of guests identify as LGBTQ+.

Each cruise line is known for different things though, so prepare accordingly.

3. What you pay upfront isn’t necessarily the full price of your cruise

While cruises are often assumed to be a mostly inclusive experience, there are a bunch of additional expenses that can cause sticker shock at the end of a journey.

First of all, cruises typically operate cashless, so it’s a simple tap of your key card or wristband to complete transactions onboard (that’s tied to a credit card on file). It’s frictionless, and perhaps maybe too easy.

Then, consider some of the basic expenses like alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks (cappuccinos, fresh-pressed juices and the like are usually not included). Of course, spa treatments, the casino, and perhaps even a tattoo (yes, that’s offered onboard Virgin Voyages) can quickly add up and inflate the original price tag. Don’t forget gratuities, which on some cruise lines can be upward of $20 per person per day.

Finally, if you plan to spend time on land (and you should), there are necessary costs to consider. While you can often pre-book land activities before you set sail, you have to decide whether to do that on your own or through the ship’s shore excursion desk. The former may be more cost-effective but the latter is more convenient — and guarantees that the ship won’t leave without you.

4. Expect some lines, even if your cruise isn’t full

If you’re on a medium- to large-sized vessel , there’s just no getting around this one. While some of the more premium cruise lines will dedicate more space per person, the physics of a space-constrained vessel with a few thousand passengers (and crew) means that you should expect lines for a variety of day-to-day activities.

My particular sailing was only at half capacity, yet there were significant lines for getting on and off the ship (perhaps the biggest bottleneck for larger vessels) as well as the shuttle buses to and from the port. While it may be minor, you have to take into account queues for anything and everything, from getting into the evening’s show to waiting for your turn at the photo booth.

Don’t get me wrong: There are plenty of nooks and crannies to acquire some Zen, but there’s just no way for a larger vessel to truly feel serene at all times.

5. Arrive at your embarkation city early

Try to arrive at your embarkation point as early as possible, ideally the day before. Flight delays and travel mishaps can submerge your entire itinerary before even setting sail.

And during a peak travel period like the summer, there isn’t a lot of slack in the system — one flight delay could mean the difference between making your cruise and missing it completely.

If you can, arrive at the port city a few days before and see the city. In my case, Barcelona was the starting point for my week-long cruise journey. I used that opportunity to nibble on Spanish tapas, stroll along Passeig de Gràcia and gawk at Gaudi’s iconic creations.

6. Try everything on the ship at least once

If you’re going on a bigger ship, odds are there are a number of dining venues, bars and entertainment spaces. Get a barometer for each experience and then go back to the things that you really enjoyed.

On Virgin Voyages, I sampled each of the main dining venues on consecutive nights. Then, I decided which to return to by Day 6 for an encore.
