Completely renovated in 2000 by the Swiss architect Hervé Dessimoz, the W Tower, formerly known as Winterthur, is composed of a central reinforced concrete core. Designed according to the same principle as its neighbor Franklin, it is, with its 32 floors, the smaller of the two Siamese twins.

A word about the architect

Second Grand Prix de Rome in 1957, Jean-Robert Delb was entrusted with the construction of this tower in 1974. Author of numerous office buildings, Jean-Robert Delb founded his own agency in 1961. After several collaborations in France and Morocco, he became particularly active in western Paris.

He built many office buildings and was also the author of one of the most important residential towers in Paris: the Bourcy Tower in the 18th district. In the 1970s, in association with Michel Chesneau and Jean Verola, the architect designed four towers in La Défense: W, Franklin, Atlantique and Europe.

The Tour W, formerly the Tour Winterthur, is an office skyscraper in La Défense in the commune of Puteaux west of Paris, France.The tower was designed by architects Delb, Chesnau, Verola and Lalande. At the time of its completion in 1973, the Tour Winterthur was the fourth highest building in La Défense. It was named after the Swiss insurance company Winterthur Group which owned the building until the end of the 1990s. It was later renamed to Tour W in 2013.In 1996, renovation works started in the building. In 2019, French software development company Axway installed an illuminated sign atop the façade.The Tour W has 31 floors and 9 underground floors with an overall floor area of 34,500 square metres.The building is located near La Défense station served by the Transilien, RER, Paris Metro and tram.

Quasi jumelle de la tour Franklin (signée deux ans plus tôt des mêmes architectes), la tour Winterthur fut complètement rénovée a partir de 1998, à l'occasion d'un chantier de désamiantage. Elle présente aujourd'hui une façade de verre noir réfléchissant. La tour Winterthur comporte : • la tour principale PB2 (Tour Winterthur), se composant en superstructure : - d'un RDC à usage de hall d’entrée et d’agence bancaire ; - de 31 étages à usage de bureaux ; - d'un 32e étage technique au-dessus de la dalle. et en infrastructure de 9 niveaux à usage d’archives, locaux techniques et restaurant inter-entreprises. • la tour Extension se composant d'un immeuble à la même adresse, de 7 niveaux en infrastructure à usage d’archives et technique. La tour est classée IGH de catégorie W2 n°40 fichier départemental. La tour s’appelle désormais « Tour W » en référence à Winterthur - société rachetée par AXA en 2006 - et dont elle avait gardé le nom jusqu'en 2013.

Tour Winterthur à La Défense / Paris

La Tour W anciennement nommée Tour Winterthur, est un gratte-ciel de bureaux situé dans le quartier des affaires français de La Défense à Paris.

La Tour portait le nom de la société suisse d'assurance, Winterthur Assurance, fondée en 1875 et fut construite en 1974.

La Tour Winterthur comporte :

• Un Rez-de-Chaussée à usage de hall d'entrée et d'agence bancaire.
• 31 étages à usage de bureaux un 32ème étage technique au-dessus de la dalle et en infrastructure, 9 niveaux à usage d'archives, locaux techniques et restaurant d'entreprise.

En 1973, la construction a été menée par les architectes DELB, SCHESNAU, VEROLA et LALANDE.

La Tour Winterthur est l'une des plus anciennes du quartier de la Défense. La protection feu de la structure a été réalisée avec de l'amiante.

Au début des années 1990, l'amiante n'était pas encore un sujet d'inquiétude en France par contre, aux yeux de l'assurance Winterthur il l'était. Ainsi il a été décidé de l'éradiquer complètement du bâtiment.

Pour ce faire, tout le bâtiment a été démonté pour ne garder que la structure béton, les dalles et les piliers.

Tous les équipements techniques, les façades, les revêtements intérieurs ont été remplacés.

Le maintien du personnel dans la tour faisait partie du cahier des charges (les 650 salariés du groupe Winterthur) grâce à la conception de base qui offrait aux 12ème et 13ème étages une coupure complète entre la partie basse et la partie haute de la Tour, les employés de Winterthur résidaient dans la partie basse dans la première étape de construction puis dans la partie haute pour la deuxième étape. Le Maître de l'Ouvrage souhaitait que le bâtiment soit également un bâtiment vert. C'est ainsi que pour la première fois il a été mis en place des plafonds actifs en France. Il procure le chaud et le froid, un renouvellement hygiénique de l'air et améliore le confort des gens en raison de la suppression des souffleries des éjecto-convecteurs.

A l'exploitation, le bâtiment était particulièrement performant puisque, en terme de charges d'exploitation, 15% moins onéreux que les tours de la dernière génération. La compagnie Winterthur a pris le pari de décloisonner les plateaux, de réaliser des bureaux paysagers et de meilleures communications entre les étages pour un maximum de flexibilité. Le choix du mobilier a été réalisé par la firme VISTA, choisie après enquête des futurs usagers. Les décors du hall d'accueil, des couloirs et des paliers d'étage ont été particulièrement soignés sur la base d'une décoration proposée par le Groupe H (panneaux en acier inoxydable perforés et rétroéclairage).

• You can reach Paris La Défense Arena by public transportation, bike or by car.
• We recommend that you use public transportation!
• We recommend that you do not arrive at Paris La Défense Arena before the day of the concert indicated on your ticket. We do our utmost to welcome you and make your experience as smooth as possible from the moment you arrive. Access to the security checkpoints is not only organized by order of arrival in the queue, but also takes into account the ticket category and overall security checkpoint congestion.
• Print out your e-ticket, or make sure you have enough battery power on your phone for mobile reading.
• We are reinforcing bag checks upon arrival. Authorized bags must be less than 10L. Bags and containers, bottles, water bottles, helmets, alcoholic beverages, cameras and unauthorized cameras are prohibited (for more information, see our prohibited items link).
• Don’t stand in front of the venue during the concerts: the hall is very well insulated, so you won’t hear anything from outside Paris La Défense Arena.

The color code indicated on your ticket (yellow, red or purple) helps you find your way around the venue, but does not indicate a mandatory checkpoint at the screening level. You can go directly to the entrances indicated below:

• Left Gold Pit access (Fosse Or Gauche) is via Entrance 32 ;
• Right Gold Pit access (Fosse Or Droite) is via Entrance 33 ;
• Pit Access (Fosse) is via Entrance 33 ;
• Level 1 access (Doors 101 to 118 indicated on the ticket) is via Entrances 5, 34 and 60 ;
• Level 4 access (Doors 401 to 421 indicated on the ticket) is via Entrances 8, 48 and 56 ;
• Hospitality Lodges & Lounge access is via Entrances 21, 39 and 55 ;
• Entrance 38 (seats on Level 1, Doors 101 to 118, indicated on ticket);

TWO-WHEELERS

Paris La Défense Arena is accessible by two-wheelers, and the parking lot is located on the Nanterre side of Place Nelson Mandela. Please note that there are no security guards. We advise you to use public transportation.

• From Versailles : take “sortie 35 –Chatou / Rueil 2000”, then follow “La Défense” signage on the “D991” then “D913” – Follow venue signage when on “Boulevard circulaire de la Défense”.
• From Saint Denis : Take “sortie 2 – Colombes/Bezons/La Garenne colombes” – then follow “La Garenne-Colombes” on “D992” then “La Défense”.

It is forbidden to bring into the Paris La Défense Arena any dangerous or illicit object that is bulky, that could be used as a projectile, that could be a danger to spectators, visitors or artists, or that could be diverted from its intended use for malicious purposes. The following are therefore prohibited:

• bags and containers larger than 10 liters,
• plastic bottles and flasks under 50cl are permitted,
• glass and metal containers over 50cl are prohibited
• alcoholic beverages,
• any rolling objects,
• unauthorized cameras are forbidden and will be deposited in a locker.

Only prohibited and non-hazardous items are accepted for deposit. Containers larger than 20in x 8in x 15in (10ga) are not accepted for deposit or on site.

We recommend that you buy your tickets only from authorized distributors (Ticketmaster & Paris La Défense Arena website). The illicit resale of tickets via certain internet platforms has increased, harming audiences, artists and entertainment professionals alike. Speculation on tickets resold at exorbitant prices (beyond their true value), counterfeit tickets, duplicates of the same ticket resold several times… buying on these sites involves many risks, not least the risk of not being able to attend the show.

In France, the law of March 12, 2012 prohibits tickets resale without the promoter’s authorization.

Holders of disability and priority cards will be granted dedicated access when they arrive at the entrance. People with reduced mobility will enter via Entrance 38 , on presentation of a medical certificate or proof of disability and an identity card.

If you are arriving from the parking lot, you can enter via entrance 5 , but don’t hesitate to call on the reception staff as soon as you arrive. Spectators should always bring their card with them when they come to Paris La Défense Arena.

Well, listen up: this is everything we know about the seating plan for Paris La Défense Arena so far. Get ready for a memorable night in Paris!

What’s the Taylor Swift Paris La Défense Arena seating plan?

While La Défense Arena has not officially released a seating map for Taylor Swift’s Eras tour, the  Seatpick   website has a possibly accurate map (and you can look for some last-minute tickets while you're at it!) 

Seating Plan

The colour-coded map for the Taylor Swift Paris Eras Tour is divided into six main sections. They are as follows: 

• CAT OR - Green
• CAT1 - Dark Blue
• CAT2 - Dark Green
• CAT3 - Purple
• DIAMENT - Light Blue
• OR PART - Orange

According to a few X users who shared the supposed seating chart, there are also seven 7 VIP and Prestige sections.

You don't have to arrive early for your seat since they are assigned. However, if you want to snag some merch at 4.30pm, arriving earlier might be worth it.

What’s Paris La Défense Arena's capacity?

The La Défense Arena has a seating capacity of 40,000 for concerts, making it the largest indoor performance venue in Europe. Being only a few minutes from the historic centre of Paris, it’s easy to reach, and there are 15,000 parking spaces near the venue.

Taylor Swift en concert à Paris La Défense Arena : des « Swifties » campent « pour être au premier rang »

Deux jours avant le premier des quatre concerts parisiens de la star mondiale de la pop, des fans sont venus camper près de l’enceinte XXL de La Défense. Ils en ont profité pour faire quelques emplettes grâce à l’ouverture du « merchandising ».

Ils sont déjà une dizaine à patienter dans la file d’attente avec leurs tentes ou leurs sacs de couchage en attendant le concert de Taylor Swift prévu quarante-huit heures plus tard, jeudi 9 mai. Ce mardi 7 mai, en début d’après-midi, d’autres fans continuent d’arriver aux abords de Paris La Défense Arena, à Nanterre ( Hauts-de-Seine ).

En attendant, Sara et Guillermo, deux Espagnols de 19 et 20 ans, se font des pâtes sous le soleil dans un réchaud amené pour l’occasion, tandis que Guillermo joue un air de la star mondiale de la pop sur sa guitare.

Ces deux meilleurs amis campent depuis ce lundi 6 mai soir : ils sont venus de Barcelone « juste pour Taylor ». Après avoir passé seize heures dans un bus, ils ont d’abord effectué un petit tour dans la capitale. Mais « on ne vient pas pour faire du tourisme ! » affirment-ils.

Dans le cadre de sa tournée européenne , Taylor Swift passe aussi à Madrid mais cela tombe pendant leurs examens. Ils ont donc préféré faire ce trajet et « manquer une semaine entière de cours ». Ce sont les premiers dans la queue : « cela paraît fou », confient ces « Swifties » (le nom des fans de la chanteuse américaine) en souriant.

Habitués des concerts, ils expliquent que c’est la première fois qu’ils campent. Deux jours les séparent encore du concert tant attendu. Entre-temps, ils trouvent des solutions alternatives pour garder une hygiène convenable : Sara raconte, mi- gênée, mi- amusée leur dernière aventure : « On s’est lavé la tête dans des lavabos » en guise de douche.

Certains se débrouillent autrement : Ava et Ludivine, 19 ans, d’autres campeuses de fortune installées dans la file d’attente, font partie de groupes de Swifties qui s’organisent sur Twitter et Instagram. Pendant les jours de camping qui précèdent le concert, elles font « des roulements » afin que chacune d’elle puisse rentrer se doucher une fois par jour.

Les restaurants à côté de la file d’attente se prêtent au jeu et ont déjà proposé aux deux fans un café le soir, tandis que certains passants leur ont déjà offert de quoi manger. À cela s’ajoute les membres de la sécurité qui restent postés à côté des campeurs, de jour comme de nuit : « C’est rassurant », sourit Ludivine.

À côté se trouvent deux stands de vente de « merchandising » dont la queue s’étend déjà jusque dans la rue. Les prix des pulls à l’effigie de l’artiste US varie entre 75 et 80 euros, celui des t-shirts entre 45 et 50. Une somme. Et pourtant, cela n’empêche pas Ava de « faire des bêtises » et d’acheter trois t-shirts ainsi qu’un pull qui sont « moins chers ici que sur Internet ».

Celle-ci n’en est pas à son coup d’essai en ce qui concerne les campements d’avant-concert : « J’ai déjà dormi trois jours dehors pour Harry Styles », raconte-t-elle. Pareil pour Olivia Rodrigo. Mais les conditions ne sont pas toujours aussi agréables : Ava raconte avoir été empêchée de dormir au Stade de France par le trafic routier.

Le bruit, le froid et… la faim, voici les principaux ennemis de ces fans de la première heure. « On s’entraîne à ne pas manger », avoue Ava. Jusqu’au show, pas de soucis, « il y a l’adrénaline ». « Le contrecoup vient après », confie la jeune étudiante en médecine.

Le but d’arriver aussi tôt dans la file d’attente, c’est non seulement « d’être au premier rang » mais d’avoir « l’endroit spécifique qu’on veut, le diamant » : la diagonale pile en face de Taylor Swift. Ava et Ludivine racontent qu’elles ont regardé « des cartes que des fans ont fait des déplacements de Taylor pendant les concerts » afin de savoir là où elle passe le plus. D’autres admirateurs doivent arriver pendant la nuit.

« On sera les premières personnes du monde à entendre en live le nouvel album »

Celles-ci se sont rencontrées pour l’occasion mais Ava nuance : « On ne se fait pas toujours des amis, il y a parfois des gens à problèmes. Il y a aussi des gens qui doublent, qui veulent tricher : ils arrivent à 10 heures du matin et ils croient qu’ils vont nous passer devant alors qu’on est là depuis trois jours. Hors de question ! » assène-t-elle.

Pour prendre leurs places, les deux jeunes filles y ont mis du leur : Ludivine a mobilisé « six ordinateurs » pour être sûre d’avoir une place. Quant à Ava, elle en a pour les quatre soirs, du jeudi au dimanche. « C’est un budget », mais la jeune fan tient à être présente à toutes les représentations parisiennes car la chanteuse fait toujours des « chansons surprises » .

Après le premier soir, elle ira dans les gradins, pour avoir une meilleure visibilité. Ludivine partage sa joie : « on sera les premières personnes du monde à entendre en live le nouvel album », le tout récent « The Tortured Poets Department ».

Tous les fans ne campent pas comme cette fan « historique » âgée de 29 ans qui verra au total quatre fois Taylor Swift (deux à Paris, une à Lyon et une autre à Londres). Cette « data scientist » préfère payer le billet VIP « 700 euros », réserver des hôtels et arriver tôt le matin. C’est ce qu’elle compte faire ce jeudi 9 mai avec son copain qu’elle a converti à sa musique préférée. Elle remarque d’ailleurs qu’« il y a de plus en plus de garçons qui l’écoutent ».

Mais ce n’est pas le cas de Brandon, marié à Amanda. Ce couple d’Américains de 38 ans venant de Caroline du Nord profite du concert pour découvrir la capitale. Un billet aux États-Unis coûte « 2 500 dollars : de quoi se faire un voyage complet à Paris », s’amuse Amanda.

Taylor Swift ‘s concerts in Paris are reportedly drawing more American tourists than the 2024 Summer Olympics, data from luxury travel agency Embark Beyond reveals.

What Happened:  According to a  Bloomberg  report on Thursday, Swift’s four performances at La Défense Arena — which has a maximum seating capacity of 40,000 — are seeing a larger influx of U.S. visitors compared to the Paris Olympics. 

The agency indicates that Swift’s concerts are pulling in five times as many Americans as the global sporting event, which is surprising given the magnitude of the Olympics.

The pop superstar is in the French capital for the European leg of her "Eras Tour."

Jack Ezon , co-founder of Embark Beyond, was reportedly taken aback by the shift in travel trends, commenting, “Look at what Taylor did to the Super Bowl. She's even overshadowing the Olympics."

Despite ticket resale restrictions in European cities like Paris, Swift’s concerts are causing a significant surge in U.S. tourists. 

Ezon’s company has organized over 200 Paris trips for Swift’s fans, typically involving a three-night stay at luxury hotels.

Contrastingly, the demand for the Olympic Games seems to be lower than expected, with hotel rates falling by over 30% in the past half-year, according to travel insights firm Lighthouse.

Why It Matters:  Swift’s ability to draw a crowd is unsurprising, given her monumental success in the music industry. Her “Eras Tour” is the  most profitable concert series  in U.S. history, contributing billions to the economy. 

In fact, her influence is so big that  even the Federal Reserve  mentioned that her concerts and fans are giving the economy a major boost amid uncertain times.

Swift’s “Eras Tour” has also boosted businesses like  Uber , whose CEO confirmed the existence of the "Taylor Swift effect” during her concerts.

Swift’s success has been further amplified by her latest album, “ The Tortured Poets Department “, which broke records on Spotify and sold 1.6 million units in the U.S. on its first day.

Last year the music industry witnessed a  10.2% annual growth , with Swift 

generating a whopping $1.82 billion by herself — more than many corporations.
