Really enjoyed the pics . Thanks for taking us along .

Thanks for the trip report and photos. I recognize the lake but wonder where you put in? If it's a secret, or private location, I'll understand but if you're willing to share, I'd love hearing of it. Most of my trips into the lake are from near a marina off of a county park beach. Your location looks nothing like that. That's all for now. Take care and until next time...be well. snapper

Of course the Mohican tour boat pegs the lake as Lake George. I am not familiar enough with that crowded lake to know or identify the specific landings imaged. It tends to be rather crowded with large power boats, not canoe friendly on most nice days, so I frequent the wilder other areas of the Adirondacks instead.

daks power trip 322

Mission Overview

On June 6, 1944, more than 11,000 aircraft were mobilized as Allied forces began a massive land, sea, and air invasion now known as D-Day. In 2019, 15 legendary DC-3 type aircraft made a historic North Atlantic crossing to celebrate both the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the 70th Anniversary of the Berlin Airlift . Featured on the international stage and in media across the world, the men and women of the  D-Day Squadron  touched tens of thousands of lives as they flew to honor the world’s Greatest Generation.

daks power trip 322

Building on these accomplishments, the D-Day Squadron (DDS) is coordinating a fleet of aircraft to fly to Europe in 2024 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion and the 75th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift. In mid-May 2024, DC-3 variants representing World War II and Cold War vintage aircraft will ‘cross the pond’ from the United States to the United Kingdom, cross the English Channel to Normandy, France, then fly on to Berlin, Germany, and beyond. This is no easy task, and while nothing can compare to the amount of organization the Allied forces faced in planning for the D-Day invasion,  there is still a tremendous amount of preparation, time, and cost involved in recreating this historic anniversary tour.  The DDS is currently setting the schedule, organizing appearances across Europe, and serving as Mission Control for the 2024 Legacy Tour – a central unit for all operators, crew, and operations.

D-Day is often known historically as the beginning of the end of WWII. Our duty is to remember the significance of this event and to ensure that future generations never forget. Today, the D-Day Squadron's mission continues, to perpetuate the sights and sounds of “Flying Freedom,” and to promote the legacy of the Greatest Generation and the Douglas DC-3s in which they flew.

Photo 4.jpg

Mission Objectives

This effort is dubbed the “2024 Legacy Tour.” With many WWII veterans having ‘flown west’ since the D-Day Squadron’s 2019 mission, 2024 will be an opportunity to focus on both the LEGACY of these WWII veterans and the legendary aircraft that served as the backbone to multiple war campaigns. “ Our veterans are our window to the past, and this is a chance for us to continue honoring those who made sacrifices for the freedoms we have today,” shared D-Day Squadron’s mission chief pilot, Eric Zipkin. Eric will fly the lead C-47, WWII combat veteran, “Placid Lassie” throughout the entire journey.

Starting from Oxford, Connecticut, in May 2024, five of the 11 aircraft must complete six total flight legs to Europe involving crew rest, refueling, proper maintenance, formation planning, and logistics. The squadron will take six days, nearly 3,000 nautical miles on each aircraft, approximately 18 hours of flight time per aircraft, 36 gallons of oil each aircraft, more than 1,600 gallons of fuel, and 80 plus crew to make this historic transatlantic crossing!

This is your chance to celebrate these amazing, historic aircraft, and ensure a proper launch effort and a safe journey for their crews!

Photo 5.jpg

As a key part of the 75th-anniversary celebrations in 2019, our paratroopers wore period-correct uniforms and jumped 'round parachutes' just like our soldiers did on June 6, 1944. Lyndse Costabile, D-Day Squadron Executive Director, says, “We look forward to replicating this in 2024, as once again, more than 150 parachutists will fill the skies, symbolizing freedom, the sacrifices made during the Normandy invasion, and the overall war effort!”

It was also a profound privilege to lead a 15-ship flyover of the American Cemetery and Omaha Beach on June 6, 2019, for the entire world to see, including the U.S. and French Heads of State who were in attendance. “Many of the aircraft in the formation were beautifully restored C-47s that had seen battle over the beaches of Normandy in 1944,” Costabile continues. "We hope that we will have this honor again next year."

These restored aircraft are flown by retired service members and seasoned civilian pilots. Our crewmembers are all volunteers who consider it an honor and a privilege to fly these legendary airplanes . The C-47 was the most ubiquitous airplane of the War and performed multiple services in all theatres of operation, including North Africa, Burma, New Guinea, Normandy, Sicily, and Holland. The C-54 and DC-3 were among the aircraft heroically transporting supplies into West Berlin during the Berlin Airlift.

Join us in 2024 to honor the soldiers who jumped over the front lines and helped bring about the end of World War II!

Following the successful mission in 2019, the D-Day Squadron has continued to be a presence at multiple flyovers, aviation events, and warbird-themed airshows. The DC-3 Society was also launched to actively aid operators and enthusiasts with maintenance, operations, airworthiness, and displays. The Allies won the War, in part, because of their logistical abilities. It’s only appropriate that we, as the stewards of these noble aircraft, continue to fly and maintain the very airframes that were the backbone to achieving victory. The world came together in June 2019 to create a fitting tribute to The Great Crusade, which changed the course of WWII – D-Day. The ceremonies celebrating the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the Berlin Airlift were a momentous occasion to celebrate peace, liberty, and reconciliation. We consider it a great privilege to return to Europe in 2024.

Photo 7.jpg

Why do we recognize the Berlin Airlift? Some background: The Berlin Blockade (24 June 1948 – 12 May 1949) was one of the first major international crises of the Cold War following WWII. The Soviet Union blocked the Western Allies' railway, road, and canal access to the sectors of Berlin under Western control. In response, the Allies organized the Berlin Airlift to carry supplies to the people of West Berlin. From 26 June 1948 to 30 September 1949, British and American forces completed 278,228 flights to Berlin, supplying food, coal, and even candy.

'Candy Bomber' was the colloquial name given by Berliners to the American and British transport aircraft which brought in supplies during the Berlin Airlift. The name was coined after some pilots voluntarily threw candy, attached to make-shift parachutes, to children watching the planes from the edges of the West Berlin airfields.

Photo 8.jpg

These actions were first attributed to American pilot Gail Halvorsen. Nicknamed "Uncle Wiggly Wings", he began to drop chocolate bars he had attached to handkerchief parachutes while approaching Tempelhof Airport. After comprehensive coverage in the media, Lt. General William H. Tunner ordered that large amounts of candy be dropped to German children in a mission known as "Operation Little Vittles". Orchestrating a tour of this magnitude for the 2024 Legacy Tour takes considerable resources. Please join us in looking ahead to 2024 as we celebrate the men, women, machines, and spirit of freedom that this event represents. Your support is vital to launching these ambitious efforts!

Please make sure to follow the D-Day Squadron on  Facebook  and  Instagram !  And, of course, LIKE and SHARE as we post during the campaign.

Partnership : Corporate opportunities to support this mission range from $5,000 to $500,000 and extend beyond the mission, as participating aircraft will support commemorations into early fall 2024. Contact Lyndse Costabile, D-Day Squadron Executive Director: [email protected] if you have any  interest in supporting.

Risks and challenges

'Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal' - BHAG - aptly describes the 2019 D-Day Squadron campaign! A total of 15 vintage DC-3/C-47 aircraft safely crossed the Atlantic, flew across Europe, and returned. This involved nearly 1,500 flight hours over 150,000 miles. This even included a lap around the Statue of Liberty in New York City and an overflight of Omaha Beach on June 6. The risks and challenges are significant, while at the same time surmountable. Many factors can contribute to 'Go-No-Go' status for the 2024 Legacy Tour - weather, mechanical issues, political climate, changing flight regulations, onsite permissions, etc. In the immediate future, the funding to 'kickstart' and launch the campaign in 2023 is absolutely essential to future planning and execution.

A big thanks to the Five Oaks team for their support, leadership and facilitation of our early Kickstarter campaign that took place in late Spring 2023, raising an initial $7,500 towards the start of our mission.

What Is a Power Trip? Exploring the Psychology, Signs, and Impact of Going on a Power Trip

' src=

By Happy Sharer

daks power trip 322

Introduction

The term “power trip” has become increasingly popular in recent years. But what exactly is a power trip? In its simplest form, a power trip is when someone seeks to gain control over others by using their power or authority. This can manifest itself in different ways, such as through manipulation, bullying, or intimidation. It’s important to understand what a power trip is and the potential consequences it can have on relationships and mental health.

Exploring the Psychology Behind Power Trips

When it comes to understanding the motivations behind power trips, there are a few psychological factors at play. According to Dr. Ramani Durvasula, a clinical psychologist and professor of psychology at California State University, Los Angeles, “Power trips are rooted in insecurity, narcissism, and a need to feel powerful and in control.” 1 People who go on power trips may be trying to compensate for a sense of inadequacy or to make up for a lack of self-esteem. They may also be driven by a need to prove themselves or to be seen as superior.

Another factor that may contribute to power trips is an individual’s ego. Ego can cause people to overestimate their capabilities and underestimate the capabilities of others. This can lead them to take on more than they can handle and to act in a controlling manner. As psychologist Dr. Gail Saltz explains, “People who are prone to power trips often have a sense of entitlement, which means they believe they should get what they want without having to work for it.” 2 This can lead to unrealistic expectations and a lack of empathy for those around them.

Examining Common Examples of Power Trips

Examining Common Examples of Power Trips

Power trips can occur in many different contexts, but some of the most common examples are in the workplace, social settings, and family relationships. In the workplace, a power trip might involve a supervisor or manager who uses their position to manipulate or intimidate others. This could include setting unreasonable demands or expectations, micromanaging employees, or withholding praise or recognition. In social settings, a power trip could involve someone who tries to dominate conversations or make decisions for the group without considering other people’s opinions. In family relationships, a power trip might involve a parent who attempts to control their children’s behavior or choices.

Recognizing the Signs of a Power Trip

Recognizing the Signs of a Power Trip

It’s important to be able to recognize the signs of a power trip so you can address the issue before it escalates. Some common signs to watch out for include:

  • Controlling behavior: A person on a power trip may attempt to control or dictate the behavior of those around them.
  • Aggressive or demanding language: They may use aggressive language or demand things from others.
  • Unreasonable expectations: They may set unrealistic expectations or make unreasonable demands.

Discussing the Impact of Power Trips on Relationships

Power trips can have a profound impact on relationships, both personal and professional. People who go on power trips tend to create tension and conflict, which can strain relationships and lead to feelings of resentment. Additionally, power trips can damage self-esteem and lead to feelings of worthlessness. Research shows that power trips can even have long-term effects on mental health, such as depression and anxiety. 3 It’s important to recognize the impact power trips can have and take steps to address the issue.

Exploring Ways to Avoid Going on a Power Trip

Exploring Ways to Avoid Going on a Power Trip

Fortunately, there are steps you can take to avoid going on a power trip. The first step is to understand your own motivations. Ask yourself why you want to exert control over others and consider whether there are healthier ways to meet your needs. It’s also important to practice empathy and compromise. Make sure to listen to the perspectives of others and be open to making concessions. Finally, it’s important to set clear boundaries. Let people know what you expect from them and don’t be afraid to say no if something doesn’t feel right.

In conclusion, it’s important to be aware of what a power trip is and the potential consequences it can have on relationships and mental health. Power trips are often driven by insecurity and ego and can manifest themselves in different ways. Recognizing the signs of a power trip is key to avoiding it and setting clear boundaries can help you maintain healthy relationships. By understanding the psychology behind power trips and taking steps to avoid them, you can ensure that you don’t fall into the trap of trying to control others.

L322 Power Steering

  • Add to quote

Occasionally when I start my 2004 RR Vogue the steering appears to be heavier than usual. Almost like the steering is only partially power assisted. I restart the engine and invariably the second start results in the correct " feel" in the steering. Has anyone experienced this problem?

Welcome to the site. Ours gets heavy when we slow down at our driveway and then back in it seems like the assist is greatly reduced but i cannot say it always does that. Maybe that engine revs are a bit low. Have a look on here for several posts on different aspects of heavy steering. The solution does not come to mind but there may be an answer. We have a few other issues that have taken my attention. Good luck and post when you find an answer

It is a servotronic problem! Either the valve on the rack, or the relay in the BCM. I would scan the BCM for fault codes.

Not too much mud. Some bugs in the wolfjaws. Snow on Gothics. Great hike!

Beautiful day! We did AMR to Gothics via the Weld, and then over to Armstrong and Upper Wolf Jaw. Mostly dry conditions, with minimal snow left in a couple of patches descending Gothics (towards Armstrong). Very buggy!! Do the out and back to see Rainbow Falls - totally worth it! Pyramid has the best views out of all peaks!! Of note: the descent from Armstrong towards UWJ has some quite steep, rock face, sections.

Dec 28. Started the hike a 6am and finished at 8pm. Snowshoes and spikes are a must! The hardest part of the trail was coming down Armstrong to Wolfjaw, very icy, steep, and technical. Overall a great trail but be careful.

Late Nov. microspikes needed. Not quite time for snowshoes yet. Clocked the loop at 17 miles taking Weld trail up hitting Sawteeth then Wedge brook down after hitting LWJ. Several steep icy sections from Armstrong to wolfjaws col that make for slow progress. Total time 12 hours.

Great trail! Lower Wolf Jaw at the end was the most difficult!

Had an absolute blast! Got a perfect day and saw only a few other groups on the entire hike. Brought 2.5 liters of water plus two 16oz water bottles and had a little left at the end. Lots of power snacks. Went clockwise and loved that as we got to enjoy the waterfalls as the last part of the hike. definitely need to start around 5:30am to hit the good parts of the day on the mountain, wouldn’t love hiking out in the dark with such weak knees we made it back to the car at 4:30pm.

Only Armstrong was really muddy today. No bugs all day! Love September hiking (and all-day-wind from Hurricane Lee probably helped too). Make sure you pack a headlamp or two. Sunset is around 7pm right now. Be prepared to start and end this hike in the dark.

Trail was incredible and the mountains were gorgeous. Kicked my butt though!

Took the Weld Trail up and used the Wolfjaw cutoff on the way down to avoid the big rocks. Mud and slippery rocks had us thinking about every step. Slow going and no views but exciting to pick up five peaks.

Having previously hiked Sawteeth and LWJ, did this hike to get the rest of the high peaks I needed from the lower great range. These turned out to be some of my favorites, as each has a view that lets you see for miles and miles in all directions; Gothics and Pyramid being my favorites. Started out taking Lake Road all the way out to the Weld Trail (rather than the East River trail) because it’s the easiest and fastest way to cover that mileage. Weld trail was in great shape and is one of my favorites; steady elevation gain, but flattens out periodically to give the lungs a rest while you’re climbing. The .6 from the junction to Pyramid is steep with some scrambles, but nothing too intimidating even for me and my fear of heights. The view from Pyramid is amazing and it’s a mountain not to be missed even though it isn’t a high peak. The trip from Gothics to Pyramid was easier/faster than I’d anticipated and the views definitely worth the effort. Gothics is popular for a reason and there were many others enjoying the summit. Gothics to Armstrong was the easiest stretch of the trip and we were there before we knew it for more great views. Descending Armstrong to UWJ was no joke and seemed to take longer than I’d expected; there’s one ladder too (it’s very sturdy…I’m just not a fan of ladders). There were a couple scrambles that I found to be the most challenging of the day, but my fear is heights and I were able to manage by ever so gracefully sitting and shimmy-sliding down. UWJ has nice views too and the walk down was long but not unpleasant as the Wedge Brook trail isn’t a terribly rocky boulder-filled stream bed like some you find in the high peaks. We took a cutoff back to Lake Road on the way out when we were able, again to get some of the easiest miles back to the car. Trails at lower elevation and as I was climbing were mostly dry, with some mud and muck between peaks at higher elevations. Bugs were not an issue until evening as we were descending from UWJ, and they stopped being much of a nuisance once getting back down to lower elevation of the West River trail and Lake Road. Total time was longer than expected, but that’s because I spent longer than I usually do on each summit because the views were spectacular. A long day with lots of elevation to gain, but definitely recommend this hike.

Fairly muddy but nothing too crazy for the ADKs. We started at Sawteeth and ended on LWJ, which I would recommend since you are getting lower and lower throughout the range. Also because the section between Armstrong and UWJ is quite steep and long, so I preferred going down it to coming up it. Pyramid and Gothics have some of the best views in the high peaks, so make sure you go on a fairly clear day if possible!

Muddy and muggy throughout the day. buggy at lower elevations. Very glad we started with sawteeth first. After a long day we made the hard decision to orphan LWJ but it’ll be a quick easy one next trip.

My phone died after hitting the lower wolf jaw! This is a really fun hike, I took the detours and checked out rainbow falls so my Garmin says 16.82 instead of 14.98. A grueling hike but very rewarding. Except for some bugs on Gothics, the rest of the hike was pretty manageable in terms of bugs.

A little wet - went from Weld to Sawteeth all the way across to LWJ - Was hot so drank all my water on the way back to car; lack of water sources between the peaks so plan accordingly…

Little muddy, bugs were bad at summits

At higher elevations, the trails are little streams covered in a layer of hard pack snow, not for the faint of heart. Trekking poles are a necessity, lots of scrambling up and down but little risk of falling very far. I highly recommend taking the scenic route up Sawteeth, beautiful views over Ausable lake and into Indian Head. There is a nice campground at the bottom of lower wolf jaw.

Spikes all day. The climb up to lower wolfjaw is steep! Once back to the junction it’s .9 to upper wolfjaw. The mountains were surprisingly close to each other with ascents of .3 or .4 miles per mountain once you hit the col in between them. The path up to Armstrong was icy and narrow in many spots. Fortunately, Michael had his whippet and it helped us climb up thick patches of ice where there is nothing to grip! I’m told there are ladders somewhere under the snow but I didn’t see any. Some brave person broke out a nice trail up to the summit of Armstrong. Gorgeous views. Probably my favorite. We went up Gothics next in very windy conditions above tree line. The trail up to Gothics was hard to find due to all the drifts of snow that kept covering it. The winds were so strong (35 mph was what mountain weather forecast predicated but not sure of actual mph) it pushed me all over the place and basically made it impossible to really enjoy the summit views. It was pretty awesome and memorable. Kris ducked and tucked while holding on for dear life with their ice ax firmly planted in the ground while I blew around the mountain trying to get pics and videos, all the while laughing maniacally. We headed to Pyramid and that was a quick ascent and descent to the junction of sawteeth and .3 miles up to the summit and a little butt sliding down (Gaia clocked me at 15 mile per hour max speed so it has to be that lol) we were quickly down to the lake road after hitting the sawteeth junction again (2 miles down) and walked 4 miles on the road to my car. I’m still not sold on the lake road walk out.

Hiked on 11/23, there was about 4 inches at lower elevations but 18 inches further up. Snowshoes are definitely required

Overall amazing loop, completed in 1 day, 9 hours total. Started at 5:30 am and went counter clockwise. Ended at about 4 pm. Be prepared for a lot of technical and steep bouldering. There are some water sources and a few waterfalls. Also still some muddy areas from the rain last week.

What words can I use to describe this hike: - Gorgeous - Arduous - Beautiful - Frustrating - Stunning - Painful It was without a doubt the most incredible hike I’ve done in my short two years of doing it so far. However, a few pointers: 1. Unless you’re prepared for snow and ice rock scrambling, do not go when it’s cold. We went in mid-October and the summits were like a winter wonderland. I slipped at least 6 times coming down. 2. The steepness is not a joke, and neither are the scrambles. The first five miles up to Indian Head are relatively light with a few small waterfalls. Once you get past the lake, it is an uphill journey, and towards the summits there are exposed slanted rocks with at least a 50% grade with little stopping you from sliding off. 3. Start early. This will take all day. We started at 7 AM and did not get back until after 5 PM. 4. Do not do this alone. You get stuck in certain spots and you could find yourself in trouble. Bring someone with you. If you don’t mind the above, the variety of views you’ll get from the lake to the waterfalls and the summits are absolutely spectacular. Happy hiking!

Steep and beautiful! It was pretty icy for good portion of this range this weekend. Overall it was great, reminds me of the Dix or Seward range

Cold, steep, beautiful and wonderful.

This was my favorite hike so far. Great scrambles and trails. Amazing views. It was a long day but well worth it. There was some mud but it was very navigable. We started on Sawteeth and worked our way to Lower Wolfjaw. Challenging but very doable.

All in all a great day. A little slick from all the rain last week. But we had a great hike- very long day for us but met great people as always along the way!

Started and finished on Lake road as opposed to starting/finishing as suggested. Also cut put Sawteeth as we got a late start. Minimal views are Lower wolfjaw, okay views on Upper wolfjaw, great views on Armstrong, then fantastic views on Gothics and Pyramid. Trail was not muddy and had fabulous weather. Long day, difficult, but worth it.

Fantastic views from Pyramid and Gothics! Great hike!

Wow this is my favorite of the 46 so far. Worth saving it for a good weather day. Started weld trail which was beautiful and did sawteeth as an out and back, then went on to the rest of the lower range. Weld trail and pyramid to Armstrong were highlights! Went pretty slow because it was so enjoyable and still managed under 9 hrs thanks to pretty (thankfully) dry conditions on much of the trail

Very challenging. Beautiful views.

I thoroughly enjoyed this hike and route. I went July 4th weekend, the weather was beautiful and the trail conditions were excellent. I was expecting black flies but didn’t see any!

Great hike but very strenuous 18.2 miles total but accidentally split it into two splits. Overall great day but one of the physically hardest high peaks I have ever done overall fabulous views and took a stop by Indian head. Definitely be in shape but great day for advanced hikers

Brutal and beautiful, fun scrambling and views are outstanding

Stretched the loop out over 3 days. Started at 4pm and camped by Gil Brook on Indian Head. Took the entire next day to hike around the loop to the beginning of Wedge Brook where we set up camp again then finished the final stretch the next day. This was a very fun, but extremely challenging trek to do with a heavy backpack on. I definitely wouldn't do it again this way. If I didn't have trekking poles I don't think I could have completed it. That being said, it was extremely rewarding, the scrambles were so fun and the views were totally worth it. No bugs at lower elevation, but the bugs were so annoying as we got to the top. We set up our tent at the top of Pyramid which was a nice little break physically and from the bugs. It had rained a few days before so there was some very muddy stretches, but they were manageable. Overall great trek.

Before doing this trail somebody described it to me as a surferfest and they were not wrong! It was definitely worth it if you have limited time to see the park and want capture all lot in one go. The terrain near the ridge is a scramble for most of it so be prepared! Overall, amazing & rewarding hike. There is really no low point, just difficult

Difficult hike but views at Indian Head were incredible. Rained after that so we lost views at Gothic and Wolf Jaw. Muddy, slippery, challenging but all in all a fun day. Started at 5:00am and back at the car at 4:30. More like 18 miles.

Beautiful ridge hike! BUT be aware! There is still snow for most of the ridge. There is some gnarly up and down, covered by ice and snow. We just made it without any snow gear, but would not have done it without at least spikes had I known the conditions. The parking was easy, just needs to be reserved ahead of time. Bear canister required, rentable from the ranger stations. While this can be done as an overnighter, I'd recommend doing a base camp with day hikes to the ridge and peaks. Hiking these mountains with everything in your backpack is doable, but difficult and wouldn't really be necessary.

All 5 mountains were great, good view. A little slippery and muddy. Note that if you do Sawteeth you don’t need to go to Indian Head, you can take Lake Road all the way down.

Added sawteeth (very minimal impact). Every peak at least a decent view if not better. Lots of scrambling which was fun

Great hike, rainy for Sawteeth, Gothics and Armstrong but cleared up for the Wolfjaws. Still completely worth the hike, highly recommend. Parking reservation at AMR was smooth and easy.

Did it clockwise from Sawteeth to Lower Wolf Jaw. Gothics and Pyramid outstanding views.

Amazing views over so many terrific peaks. Such a great hike!

Fun and quite challenging trail with multiple beautiful views and plenty of scrambles. You hit multiple high peaks and get to see a lot on this route. Conditions were a bit muddy and buggy, especially the section from Gothics to Upper Wolfjaw when I was there, but nothing showstopping. A few general things to be aware of: -Parking reservation required at AMR. No walk- up access to trailhead allowed without reservation. Rangers were checking -Don’t be fooled by the mileage. This is a slow-going trail with lots of rock scrambles, muddy stretches after recent rainfall and steep sections. I camped at Gill Brook, early on the route, and so was carrying a heavy load. My pace was much, much slower than usual. It is a difficult trail to do with a heavy pack, so probably recommended to do this as a fast day hike. -I skipped Lower Wolfjaw and added Mt. Colvin to my route. Colvin was also a lot harder than the mileage would suggest. -There is a nearly 2 mile road section at the beginning and end of the hike through a private club -I went clockwise and the ascent up to Gothics seemed never ending. In retrospect, I think counterclockwise might have been preferable for variety/ breaking up the climb

Starting in May, the parking lot began requiring reservations made at least 1 day in advance. The reservations are for hiking access as well as a safe and secure parking area. NO walk-ins are allowed without a reservation! You can make reservations with this link: www.hikeamr.org

Upper and lower Wolfjaw 5:15 AM; 41° started from parking lot. 5:54 AM; After 1.7 miles on dirt road/ path, a quick right at a bridge labeled Wolf Jaw. 6:32 AM; reached the junction for Wedgebrook Cascades - Wolfjaw Path. At this point path begins to get a steady climb to it, nothing challenging. 8:22 AM; reached the Summit of lower Wolfjaw. 8:43 AM; Reached junction two upper Wolfjaw start. 9:47 AM; reached the summit of upper Wolfjaw. 11:00 AM; reached summit of Armstrong 12 PM; reach the summit Gothics, awesome views! 12:41 PM; Reached the summit of pyramid. 2:02 PM; reached the summit of sawteeth.

Great hike. Took longer than I expected. Trail conditions are starting to deteriorate. I was post holing with snow shoes. Be careful on the descents. Especially on the back side of Armstrong at the ladder which is still buried.

Great trail, got Sawteeth as well, lots of mud and some rain and snow mixed

We took the East river trail and did Sawteeth, Pyramid Peak, Gothics, Armstrong, and Upper Wolf Jaw. Weather was rainy, but trails were well marked. Highly recommend grabbing Sawteeth as it is only .5 miles from the Weld trail junction. From that junction, Pyramid was .7 miles, and from Pyramid Gothics was .5 miles. Coming down Upper Wolfjaw was brutal on the knees, but the foliage was spectacular. Running times from the trail register: to Sawteeth (3:24:08), pyramid peak (4:23:07), Gothics (4:47:44), Armstrong (5:35:06), Upper Wolfjaw (6:21:23). Total hike time 9:57:03, 15.3 miles

Very pretty, just really busy!

We did the loop on a clockwise direction taking the West River Trail then up to Pyramid, Gothics, Armstrong, Upper & Lower Wolfjaw in that order. The view from Pyramid absolutely stole the show - unreal! The hike definitely has its share of really steep sections, and some tight maneuvering is required at times too. Make sure you absolutely have the map downloaded for the trail before you get there because there are a lot of junctions and places to get easily turned around if you don’t have a map. The final descent from Lower Wolfjaw back to the West River trail was frankly miserable - 4.5 miles straight down and brutal on your knees - by far the worst part of the hike hands down. Bring poles if you want to walk tomorrow. Overall an amazing hike, just be prepared for the descent to be longgg and steep. Oh and lots of water. Went just over 2.5L on a cool 55 degree day. Total time: 11 hours. Total distance: 16.4miles

Beautiful! We added in Indian Head and Rainbow Falls into this trip (very easy to do). Glad we did because we had both places to ourselves...with that being said...we arrived to the parking lot a little before 4AM and we got the last spot. There was mud on the trails, but I wouldn’t necessarily consider the trail muddy and it was easily navigatable. Lots of scrambles and slides, super fun. It was a gorgeous day so the summit spots started to get a little crowded as the day / hike went on. Took us 12 hours total. All in all - super great hike. Be prepared, know your limits, have your map, have fun!

Beautiful day out. Parked at the AMR parking lot the night prior started at 4am, peaked lower wolfjaw around 0630, upper at 0745 (helped an older couple find their way). peaked Armstrong around 0945 and Gothics around 1030 the view was super beautiful could see anything you want. peaked pyramid around 1100 and sawteeth around 1300. took lake road all the way back and got back to the car around 1600!

How To Deal With A Boss On A Power Trip

A boss on a power trip can give you a tough time and make your easy job a difficult one. Such people suck the good vibes out of you and push you into a negative environment.

9 Tips To Deal With A Boss On A Power Trip

Power tripper bosses create a toxic environment by spreading rumors and enforce their atrocity.

According to the boss, employees who praise and accept their boss’s authority are good. But people who go against them and try to show them the mirror will be their ultimate enemies.

In that case, bosses can do whatever it takes to make the lives of such employees a burning hell. But this article can help you with how to deal with a boss on a power trip.

1. Keep Little But Necessary Interaction With Them:

People who are on a power trip can turn a good environment into toxic. If you often interact with your boss and she gossips about you, she might mess up with your mind.

Avoid Your Power Lover Boss As Much As You Can

Such bosses give unnecessary tips to their employees and tell them how to do their job . Yet they don’t know how to do their own jobs.

You should talk to your boss only when it’s too urgent, otherwise do your work and focus on your job. Avoid wasting time on your power tripper boss.

2. Leave Your Boss Alone In His Wonderland:

If your boss thinks he’s the best , let him enjoy his fantasies and leave him in his wonderland. The boss is already emotionally broken, he can do nothing except making things miserable for everyone.

How To Deal With A Boss On A Power Trip

It would be better to leave such people on their own and let them do whatever they want.

Avoid clarifying anything to your boss because he’s already on a power trip and won’t believe whatever you say.

3. How To Deal With A Boss On A Power Trip – Don’t Let Their Actions Affect You:

It’d be good to keep a safe distance, but you also have to make sure that their actions don’t leave a negative impact on you.

While working under such bosses, it’s easier to lose your temper sometimes and ruin things. But that’s what you have to take control of.

Don’t fell victim to their traps and avoid losing hope in your job. Keep your confidence level high and deal with this workplace issue like a boss .

4. Avoid Getting Into An Argument With Them:

As mentioned before, it won’t be of any use to argue with such people who believe power is everything. They won’t ever accept a valid point and argue as much as they can to prove themselves right.

Avoid Arguing With Your Power Seeker Boss

So it would be just a wastage of your time and energy to argue with your boss who’s on a power trip.

Let them believe in their self-made truths and rely on their falsified beliefs.

5. Don’t Brag About Your Achievements To Deal With A Boss On A Power Trip:

When you talk about your success, your power tripper boss will start talking about his own.

He can’t see anyone else taking the limelight and loves to make people praise him for his achievements.

If you want to work in this job and have no other option, praising your boss’s success will be good.

Although you’ve been successful and got so many achievements, you’ve to keep it to yourself.

6. Document Their Behavior – When It Goes Unbearable:

If your boss’s annoyance is going beyond your patience, you can prepare to report this behavior.

Get his actions documented in writing, collect evidence that highlights his power trip.

How To Deal With A Boss On A Power Trip

Gather all your collected evidence in a file and prepare to meet the management in this regard.

However, if you don’t want to report it and continue doing it because you don’t have another job, go to HR.

7. How To Deal With A Boss On A Power Trip – Seek Guidance From HR:

In case if you’re stuck at what you should do next to get rid of your power tripper boss, seek help from HR.

They can guide you better about how to save your career while doing this job. Or they might suggest you find a new job as this one’s causing damage to your mental health.

Whatever you want to do next, be cautious as your boss, who’s on a power trip, can create trouble for you.

8. If It Doesn’t Go Well – Get Ready For Job Hunt:

Regardless of what condition your job is in, you must always be ready to face anything coming your way.

Begin Your Hunt For A Better Job

If you’ve made up your mind about leaving this job, you should rehearse your interview speech. Also, prepare a nice and impressive resume to increase the opportunity to find a good job.

When you begin your job hunt, keep in mind that your new boss can be difficult to deal with as well. But that shouldn’t keep you from chasing your goals.

9. Get Yourself A Better Boss – Time To Quit:

There’s always an option of getting yourself a better boss, don’t force yourself to work in a toxic environment.

Go For A New Job

A boss on a power trip will demand double-energy from you, one to do your job and the other to get along with his nonsense.

It can be really exhausting to do both at the same time. So you should quit working with him if the water goes over your head.

How To Know If Someone Is On A Power Trip – 6 Visible Signs

Identifying power trippers is important, they can be making your job difficult without you knowing. You’d be able to deal with your boss who’s on a power trip only when you know his traits.

So here are some signs to know if someone is on a power trip.

1. They’re Shallow Inside:

Such people always pretend to be the best ones, while in reality, they’re not. They always make noise of “I’m the best,” yet they lack so many basic skills.

How To Deal With A Boss On A Power Trip

For instance, power trippers don’t know how to control their anger and manage things at the workplace.

You’ll constantly be filling their self-esteem and ego, but still, your boss wouldn’t be happy with you.

2. Power Hunger Makes Them Toxic:

Your boss is surely on a power trip if he loves the overly competitive environment. He encourages toxic behavior in employees and spread rumors to create toxicity in the workplace.

A toxic environment at work itself indicates that there’s a power tripper who’s making things worse.

3. These People Want Status:

A boss who is on a power trip craves status and authority to control people around him. He wants to take everything in control.

A Boss On A Power Trip Wants Status

You’ll see your boss reminding everyone that he’s the boss and he holds superiority over them.

He always talks about how he came along the way and what achievements he made in the past.

4. Loves To Force People To Bow Down:

These people want to command respect from everyone working with them. They’d be happy to see people bowing down to them.

It creates a sense of power and authority in their mind, and they think that this is a success. Doing whatever it takes to be powerful and superior is what they do at work all day.

5. There’s Infinite Jealousy:

Power trippers can’t see other people doing better than themselves; they want to look the best . There’s visible jealousy you can see on their faces.

Power Lovers Are Always Jealous Of Other People

They want to be the only “good” person in the workplace with all the limelight. They won’t bear anyone else being successful.

6. They’ve Dark Insecurities:

Power seekers always have some dark insecurities which they hide behind layers.

Such people, when put into groups to work, are the ones that feel most powerless. So when they get this power, they try their best to hide their insecurities.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you handle someone on power trips.

Dealing with someone on power trips can be a bit difficult, but it’s not impossible at all. You shouldn’t engage with such people and focus on work. You must speak to the topic and not to the person. Ask for clarification to see if they really meant what they said.

What Do You Do When Your Boss Overlooks You?

First of all, don’t assume your boss’s intentions as bad ones; he might be just doing his work. Flip the lens and see the perspective of his side. You should prepare yourself to talk to your boss and have a dedicated yet positive conversation. Don’t lose any chance of making yourself visible.

Why Is My Boss On A Power Trip?

People who are insecure in their own authority are more likely to be in on power trips. If they train someone lower than them and that person happens to be more superior, the proud trainer will be on a power trip.

How Do You Deal With A Power-Hungry Person?

You can handle a power-hungry person by talking to them, telling them that you’re concerned, but not insult them. Also, offer them feedback more as a friend and not as a competitor so they can assess themselves.

Dealing with a boss who’s on a power trip can be exhausting, and it might leave you with no energy at the end of the day.

But if it’s necessary for your job and you haven’t a new job lined up for yourself, then you’ll have to do it anyways.

However, a strategic way of dealing with your power tripper can save your time and energy .

We hope you found these tips to deal with a boss on a power trip useful.

PowerTrip Orientation 2022

During their first week on campus, Energy Graduate Group students participate in an orientation program– Power Trip – to learn about the wide variety of energy related research and policy work being conducted at UC Davis and in the Sacramento/Bay area through discussions with researchers and leaders from industry, government, public interest groups, and academia. PowerTrip is made possible by the generous support of individual donors.

Tuesday, September 13th

Noah krasner.

After a quick introduction from Alissa, the dozen or so EGG students got busy with a very intense Connect 4 tournament. After I was bested in the quarterfinals, Daphne came out on top as our victor. She reports her experience was “absolutely riveting. Everyone was out for blood and I don’t think I would have made it past the final round if I didn’t just close my eyes and drop the pieces.”

daks power trip 322

Following our icebreaker, Annemarie, Alan, and Alissa each gave short talks introducing the EGG and the current pressing issues regarding energy systems. Annemarie, charming as always, ensured us of the many resources available through our time at UC Davis. Alissa and Alan covered broad energy concepts in their talks, such as wasted energy in typical Sankey diagram style, energy injustice, and the all-famous duck curve.

daks power trip 322

For lunch, Sandy Berg joined us, the Vice Chair of the California Air Resrouces Board. Her refreshing friendliness reflected her interests in environmental justice and small to medium businesses. She genuinely saw the future in our interests, and clearly has hope for our generation to accept the environmental justice baton from her own. On a technical note, Sandy showed us the CARB’s 2022 Scoping Plan, where it recommends policies to be passed to comply with AB 32’s 40% emissions reduction mandated by 2030. She left us on this: “What changes the world is truly how we’re going to implement changes,” rather than getting lost in minutia.

After lunch, the folks from Pacific Gas and Electric gave a virtual talk about their plans and policies for the decade. Aaron August, the VP of Business Development and Customer Engagement spoke broadly about PG&E’s values, as well as dove deep into bidirectional EV charging and duck-curve reduction. Next, Vanessa Bryan, the Senior Manager of PSPS Customer Engagement and Strategy, spoke about mitigating wildfire risk and enhanced power line safety settings (EPSS). Chris McNeece, the Director of Short-Term Electricity Supply (STES), introduced the cohort to bidding and pricing of energy, as well as CAISO and day-ahead markets. Finally, Marlene Murphy-Roach, the Director of Income-Qualified Programs (IQPs) and Disadvantaged Communities, described the ever-pressing balance of providing aid to those in need while keeping prices fair for others.

The first day of Power Trip was concluded with a quick history of notable folks in energy by Kelly. Peppered by pictures of his longer-haired days, he taught the cohort the power of creative thinking in the energy industry. He ended his talk with a powerful quote to propel us into our degrees: “If you believe in something, stand up for it.”

Solar is to our clean energy transition, as kittens are to happiness – you can’t have the latter without the former.

On the second day of Power Trip, the 2022 EGG cohort took a trip west to the Putah Creak Solar Farm owned by Valley Clean Energy (VCE), the community choice aggregator serving Yolo County. The solar farm is located just outside of Winters adjacent to a PG&E substation. The cohort was welcomed by VCE staff and Dan Noren, CEO of Summit Energy, the engineering firm that designed and constructed the solar farm (Dan is also an UCD alum!). The facility is a 3 MW solar plus storage installation that will help provide Yolo County residents with clean electricity during the day and the evening when the sun goes down.

While the solar farm was the focus of the trip, it was admittedly difficult with kittens demanding attention.

After the tour, the cohort returned to Davis for lunch. The lunch de jour was Alibaba, a local restaurant on the Davis campus that serves a quick bite that will last you all day. The newly minted UC Davis graduates in EGG introduced the cohort to the informal exchange rate on campus when assessing a purchase – one Alibaba burrito. I know kilowatt-hour is about as entrenched as a unit of measure that exists, but I think there’s room for one Alibaba burrito in the energy world.

Once we finished lunch, the cohort participated in an insightful training from Eric Sanchez, Diversity and Inclusion Educator in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, called Making the Unconscious Conscious: Understanding and Mitigating Bias. The training helped to highlight how bias informs our perceptions and reactions to people and environment around us and recognize the different microaggressions that we may unconsciously commit and helpful ways to prevent them.

The day finished up with Meg Slattery, Kabian Ritter, and Prof. Alissa Kendall discussing the EGG DEI student run group. EGG students are committed and focused on DEI issues to make the program as welcoming and comfortable for all students. EGG students run an Energy Justice seminar during the Winter quarter to inject justice principles into student’s curriculum and research projects.

Thursday began with the EGGs driving to the campus central heating and cooling plant to take a guided tour with Joe Yonkoski. After discussing important developments in the plant’s progression towards full electrification, we discussed topics like the “Big Shift” and new natural gas legislation for CA. Exploring the control room, the EGGs learned how the campus is provided with conditioned air around the clock.

Returning to the home office, a beautiful shift in weather led to a catered lunch from Dos Coyotes being enjoyed outside on picnic benches.

After lunch, the EGGs met with Jose Bodipo-Memba via Zoom. Jose is the director of Sustainable Communities at SMUD. The group explored the myriad of issues relating to vulnerable and low-income communities with respect to community electrification and energy equity. Future goals were outlined including and not limited to electric vehicle charger proliferation, removal of gas stoves, and installation of solar panels in under-represented communities. The students were able to dive deeper and discuss the socioeconomic factors that impact the desirability of updated energy systems, and the importance of education and access to transparent data and information.

Following SMUD’s presentation, the group walked just a few yards down the street to the Western Center for Cooling Efficiency. David Vernon, the Co-Director of Engineering walked the group through the center, highlighting new technologies such as aerosol building sealants, indirect evaporative cooling, liquid desiccants, and HVAC component efficiencies in different climates.

For the second time in the day, the EGGs took the vans for a field trip. Driving across town to the California Lighting Technology Center (CLCT), Jae Y. Suk warmly welcomed us. The center is involved in multiple interesting, interdisciplinary research projects. Whether through the implementation of new technologies, the development of building energy standards, or research and development, the lighting center has a wide portfolio regarding the way we understand and use lighting fixtures.

Friday, September 16th

Friday morning was spent meeting with and furthering our understanding of the array of government organizations and NGOs that produce, promote, and enforce energy policy. The EGGs were able to meet Commissioner Shiroma from the CPUC, Chair of the Board Angelina Galiteva at CAISO, and Commissioner Gunda from the CEC. Freely able to ask broadly ranging questions to prominent figures in Energy Policy, the EGGs were given an amazing opportunity to develop their own ideas and envision the ways in which they would participate in some of the world’s most pressing climate initiatives.

After a delicious lunch catered from Musette, the students have the brain food necessary to process the well formulated arguments from NRDC’s famous Ralph Cavanagh. Ralph eloquently discussed some of the nation’s most heated topics with ease, integrating policy, technology, economics, and sociology. Ralph has more than 40 years of experience at the NRDC, and is a wonderfully engaging speaker. Even Professor Kelly Kissock sat down stating, “I never miss a chance to hear you speak”.

After breaking for lunch, we had the pleasure of hearing from David Phillips, the Associate Vice President of the UCOP discussing the UC’s plan for becoming net zero carbon over the next decade. While every campus differs in policy and planning, he congratulated UC Davis for leading the charge on many important electrifications projects.

Our day ended with a lightning introduction session from a variety of programs on campus. Hearing from directors, managers, professors, and other graduate students, the new EGGs were presented with many ongoing research projects at UCD. Whether interested in ecology, EVs, cooperatives, or industrial applications of energy technologies, all the new students heard from talented people in their area(s) of interest.
