I had been taking my daughter to Safari since she was 2 years old and she is almost 7, I have had little bad experiences here and there but nothing compares to my last appointment with my 14 month old son, it was his first appointment, he barely cut teeth about a month ago, and of course being a boy is all over the place and chipped one of his teeth, I made a rush appointment to have him seen, and from the moment I got into the office I felt attacked first by the hygienist about me extend nursing my son, she repeatedly made comments about how babies who are breastfed are more likely to get cavities and asked multiple times if I "wash" my sons mouth after every feeding, and then when the dentist finally came in and I was concerned about his chip tooth she was not only stand off ish because my son was a wiggle warm and she didn't even comfort him or try to settle him down before trying to look in his mouth, but then when I went on to ask if there was anything that could be done for the chip tooth she proceeded to make the argument that it wouldn't be safe for him to do so because he clearly couldn't sit still and try to make it seem as though it would be a HUGE traumatic thing if she did anything, so I mentioned well could there be anything done at all because the tooth was extremely sharp now and was causing pain while I nursed and she simply replied "well maybe it's a good thing this happened now, so you can consider weaning him off nursing" my heart sunk I couldn't believe she had made that statement, I felt that is not something a dentist should have any say on, it's 2023 so many mamas out there "extend" nurse, I literally left with tears in my eyes, I know part of it was hormones from this "extended" nursing mama but the other half/ majority was anger. Needless to say we have found another dentist who without hesitation help with the chip tooth and we're also super supportive of my choice to still nurse my son. So I will no longer be taking either one of my children here.

I have taken my kids here for years. I was skeptical at first since we always saw Dr. Lyles and she retired, but I was pleasantly surprised. There were a few familiar faces that were as friendly as usual and many new faces that were just as friendly. The new doctor we saw was fabulous and my kids left with smiles. They also do a lot of fun stuff for the kids now and they have tablets so they can watch movies while getting their teeth cleaned. We loved Dr. Lyles and we love it with the new owners too. I highly recommend Safari!

My son needed a special procedure other doctors in San Antonio couldn't do and wish I just started here! They are so nice and caring. They really do a great job making my scared son feel at ease. THANK YOU KARLA FOR BEING AWESOME!!!

My daughter has been coming here for 8 years ! They are awesome! My second daughter is 3 years old and has been coming here as well. Both of my girls love it. The staff is amazing. Dentist are amazing. Everyone is very friendly. Clean facility as well.

Pediatric Dentistry

Dental Safari’s mobile dental office is a self-contained, fully-functioning dental operatory where children receive the same professional services as those performed in a traditional office. Because we bring our office to your child’s school, children need only to step out of class to access dental care.

Services We Offer

Regular cleanings help keep gums healthy and teeth cavity-free. A dental cleaning includes removal of tartar and plaque and polishing of the teeth to remove stains and prevent further buildup of plaque.

Dental sealants are made of a safe resin material which is applied to the surfaces of teeth (commonly permanent molars) to prevent cavities. The sealant material fills in the crevices of a tooth and “seals” off the tooth from cavity-causing agents like food and plaque. The teeth are prepared for the sealant application and the sealant is painted directly onto the chewing surface of each tooth and then hardens. Sealants are applied in one visit.

Fluoride is a natural substance that helps strengthen teeth and prevent decay. Fluoride treatments are administered at this office as an important component of pediatric dental treatment. The fluoride is applied to the teeth in a gel, foam, or varnish form.

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is a caries arresting topical medication that stops the spread of decay for a period of time.

If your child is found to have urgent dental needs following examination, we will provide you with contact information of local Dentists that are accepting new patients. However, The Dental Safari Company does not just provide an examination and move on. If a child does have urgent dental needs, they can be scheduled for follow-up dental care by us.

Safari Children’s Dentistry is available to assist any of our patients whenever they need dental care, not just during regularly scheduled appointments. Once you have described the situation over the phone, we will help you decide what to do next and begin preparing a treatment room if necessary.

What should I do if my child has a toothache?

If your child has mentioned that they are experiencing a little pain in one of their teeth, we recommend scheduling a visit with our team in the near future so we can check it out. In the meantime, home remedies like swishing warm salt water around their mouth for thirty seconds or applying vanilla extract or garlic paste to the tooth can help to numb the pain. If the pain ever becomes overwhelming or they develop a fever, please contact our office right away so we can schedule an emergency appointment for them.

Is losing a baby tooth too early considered a dental emergency?

When an adult tooth is knocked out, you must see an emergency dentist as quickly as possible to save the tooth before it’s too late. If a baby tooth is knocked out, you don’t have to react with the same amount of urgency, but our team will want to see your child after an accident like this occurs. Our pediatric dentist will examine their teeth for any other signs of dental trauma, and we may place a space maintainer as well, which prevents nearby teeth from moving into the space where the baby tooth was and blocking the adult tooth underneath from growing in.

How can I be prepared for a dental emergency?

Having a first aid kit on hand is not only important for medical emergencies but dental emergencies as well. Gauze can be used to hold a tooth in its socket after it has been knocked out or to stop gum bleeding. If your child is young and at risk of swallowing a dislodged tooth, putting it in a cup of milk will keep it alive until you can get to our office. It’s also a good idea to keep ice packs in the freezer and have over-the-counter pain medication available to handle any tooth pain or swelling that may occur.

Boil water notice for parts of Nacogdoches rescinded

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - The boil water notices issued last week for two locations within the city have been rescinded. See the attached images and release for more information.

The original release issuing the notices is as follows:

As a result of two separate water main breaks that occurred on 5/31/2024, the City of Nacogdoches PWS No. 1740003 was required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to notify all customers in the affected areas to boil their water before consumption.

The public water system has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by this public water system used for drinking water or human consumption purposes and has provided TCEQ with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use as of 6/3/2024 for the following locations: (See attached maps)

1st location: Bennet Clark on Rayburn Dr. (FM 1275) to SE Stallings Dr.

2nd location: John Richard on E. Starr Ave. to Glen Hollow Dr.
