MISFITS Announce Dallas Concert With Very Special Guest ALICE COOPER

Legendary punk rock band MISFITS will make their only headline appearance of 2022 at Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas, Texas for Halloween weekend on Saturday, October 29. The MISFITS , featuring original singer/songwriter Glenn Danzig and original bassist Jerry Only with Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein on guitar, will be joined by very special guest, Rock And Roll Hall Of Famer Alice Cooper and THE DISTILLERS . Tickets will go on sale on Friday, August 12 at 10 a.m. at LiveNation.com.

Next month, MISFITS will headline Riot Fest 2022 in Chicago, performing their landmark first album "Walk Among Us" in full for its 40th anniversary.

The initial comeback performance by MISFITS members Danzig , Only and Von Frankenstein took place at the 2016 Riot Fest . The estranged bandmates played together for the first time since 1983 and were backed by former SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo and guitarist Acey Slade .

Since then, the original lineup of the MISFITS has reunited for scattered dates, with the most recent one taking place in October 2021 at the Aftershock festival in Sacramento.

Prior to the Riot Fest concerts, Glenn , Jerry and Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein last performed together on October 29, 1983.

Two years ago, Danzig told Rolling Stone magazine that he was happy with the way the MISFITS shows have been going. "Shit, we sold out Madison Square Garden," he said. "As a matter of fact, we oversold it. Back in the day, all the bigwig promoters and record label people were, like, 'A punk band will never headline Madison Square Garden.' And, of course, we're the first punk band to headline there. And not only did we sell it out, we oversold it. So a big fuck you to all those assholes, who are probably selling hotdogs on Sixth Avenue."

The original MISFITS band broke up in 1983, and Only brought forth a new version of the MISFITS in 1995. Various members have come and gone, but Only , along with BLACK FLAG 's Dez Cadena , has kept some form of the MISFITS in the recording studio and on the road for most of the last two and half decades.

In a 2016 interview with Rolling Stone , Only said about working with Danzig again: " Glenn is Glenn . We dealt with Glenn in the beginning and it's the same dealing with Glenn now. It doesn't change. It's just a different perspective. If we let Glenn be Glenn and do what we're supposed to do, it's gonna work. You don't argue with each other. I think we're over that. I think we're old enough now."

Asked what it was like keeping the MISFITS going for 20 years without Glenn , Only said: "There was always that hole. When Glenn split, there was always that feeling we were missing a component of what makes us what we are. And I'm sure the same goes on for him. In the other bands he was in, he's changed people left and right. When we play together, it's just us."

The Original Misfits Announce October Dallas, TX Live Show

The Original Misfits will return to the stage for an October 29th live show at the Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas, TX on Saturday, October 29th. Support on that newly announced show will come from celebrated shock rocker Alice Cooper and Californian punk rock outfit The Distillers . Tickets for the event will go on sale next Friday, August 12th at 10:00am via Live Nation .

The Original Misfits will also be taking the stage at this year’s ‘ Riot Fest ‘ at Douglass Park in Chicago, IL on September 17th. The group will headline that date with a special 40th anniversary full-album performance of their 1982 debut album, “ Walk Among Us “.

The Original Misfits finds the horror punk outfit’s vocalist Glenn Danzig , bassist/vocalist Jerry Only and guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein back onstage together, with Dave Lombardo ( Suicidal Tendencies , Testament , ex- Slayer ) on drums. Acey Slade (ex- Dope / Murderdolls ) rounds out the live lineup on guitars/vocals.

The classic Punk Rock band The Misfits announced a concert at Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas, Texas for the Halloween weeked on October 29. The show will have as special guests Alice Cooper and The Distillers.

Formed in Lodi, New Jersey back in 1977, The Misfits are considered the progenitors of the Horror Punk subgenre, adding horror film references on their lyrics and image. In the early 80s the band released classic albums like “Walk Among Us” (1982) and “Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood (1983), which featured famous tracks like “Night of the Living Dead”, “Astro Zombies” and “Die, Die My Darling”.

In late 90s they released two successful studio albums without Glenn Danzig on vocals. “American Psycho” (1997) and “Famous Monsters” (1999) had the two classic members Jerry Only and Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein, the new singer Michale Graves and the drummer Dr. Chud. Those records had famous tracks like “Dig Up Her Bones”, “Scream”, “Helena” and “Dust To Dust”.

Alice Cooper and The Distillers will join The Original Misfits for a special Halloween weekend gig – the band’s only headline show of the year.

Following Riot Fest in September, The Original Misfits have announced a Halloween weekend gig with Alice Cooper and The Distillers .

The band – Glenn Danzig, Jerry Only and Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein – will be performing at the Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas, Texas on October 29 for their only headline date of 2022. Tickets go on sale this Friday, August 12 at 10am local time.

Speaking to Kerrang! last year about the band’s reunion and how it came about, Glenn Danzig explained, “What I will say is that eventually Jerry [Only, Misfits bassist] and I worked out a bunch of our differences and we decided that if we were going to do a reunion, we were going to do it now rather than later, while we’re still young and vital and can still go crazy and run around a stage.”

When asked about a potential new Misfits album, the frontman revealed, “I’m taking it one day at a time, so we‘ll see where all this leads. If it ends up somewhere like that, then great. If not, it’s not a big deal.”

Misfits Announce Halloween Show in Dallas

The Original Misfits — featuring founding members Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only — have announced a big new show for 2022. Previously, the reunited horror-punk pioneers had just two live dates in their schedule book, September 17th at Riot Fest in Chicago and October 9th at Aftershock in Sacramento, California. But since it's not truly Halloween without a Misfits show, the devilocked demons have lined up a special gig for All Hallows Eve weekend on Saturday, October 29th. The lucky town? Dallas, Texas.

Shock-rock legend Alice Cooper and punk-rock veterans the Distillers are set to open the show at Dos Equis Pavilion. Tickets for the event will go on sale next Friday, August 12th at 10:00 a.m. via LiveNation.

For those heading to Riot Fest to see the Misfits play, you lucky bastards will get to see a special 40th anniversary full-album performance of their classic 1982 debut, Walk Among Us .

The Original Misfits

On Saturday October 29th, 2022, The Original Misfits will be performing at the Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas, Texas. The Original Misfits are a punk rock band from New Jersey that formed in 1977. The band is composed of vocalist and guitarist Glenn Danzig, bassist Jerry Only, and drummer Joey Image. The Original Misfits are widely considered to be one of the most influential punk rock bands of all time.

The Original Misfits disbanded in 1983, but reunited in 1995 for a reunion tour. Since then, the band has toured sporadically. The Original Misfits last performed in Dallas in 2016, at the Gexa Energy Pavilion.

The Original Misfits are touring in support of their new album, “The Devil’s Rain”, which was released in October of 2020. The album marks the first new studio album from the band in 38 years. “The Devil’s Rain” was met with critical acclaim, with many reviewers calling it a return to form for the band.

Tickets for The Original Misfits’ Dallas show go on sale Friday June 11th at 10am. Tickets will be available through Ticketmaster.

The Original Misfits will be celebrating Halloween in Dallas this year. The legendary horror-punk band has announced an October 29th show at Dos Equis Pavilion with special guests Alice Cooper and The Distillers .

As of now, the Dallas concert is one of only two shows the Original Misfits have on their schedule for 2022. The band is also set to headline Riot Fest in Chicago on September 17th.

Tickets for the Dallas concert go on sale to the general public on Friday (August 12th) at 10 a.m. CT via Ticketmaster . An artist pre-sale begins on Tuesday (August 9th) at 10 a.m. CT using the code TEXASISTHEREASON , followed by Live Nation and Citi pre-sales starting Wednesday (August 11th).

Since singer Glenn Danzig and bassist Jerry Only settled their decades-old feud to reunite the band’s classic members in 2016, the Original Misfits have only played a total of 14 shows in six years thus far. So, both the Riot Fest set and the Dallas gig mark rare occasions to see the punk icons in concert.

Thompson’s Hell’s Angels, the definitive account of the motorcycle gang that was both the emblem of pure, uncut postwar freedom and a nightmare for “respectable” society. They’re coming to your town, they’re gonna party it down, they’re an American band of greasy, filthy, beer-swilling gearheads who don’t give a fuck. These were misfits who found liberation on two wheels and lived by their own violent, self-governing codes. The book begins with them recognizing the Gonzo King as a kindred spirit. The Bikeriders doesn’t necessarily come to praise these road warriors, nor does it want to bury the memory of them entirely. Nichols has said he was trying to capture the bygone sense of rebellion and radical disruption these gangs represented, as well as the vintage-hip vibe he felt when he flipped through Lyons’ book. The filmmaker also knows that, to quote a wise man, to live outside the law you must be honest, and once a younger generation start bumrushing their way into the Vandals’ freedom’s-just-another-word-for-nuthin’-left-to-lose shindig, you can see the necessary notion of honor among thieves slowly riding into the sunset. Those original pics captured a fleeting, flipped bird to the world in amber. The movie knows that nihilistic gesture may feel slightly stilted now. But it still wants to pay tribute to the memory of yesteryear’s gloriously extended middle fingers.

Team USA rules the Summer Olympics medal table. Will it continue in Paris?

If you could step into a time capsule and transport back to the hallways of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee in the last years of the 20th century, you would no doubt hear a lot of chatter about the sports behemoth in Asia.

“The skinny you’d hear in 1996 was that China was going to overtake (the U.S.),” said Bill Mallon, the world’s leading authority on Olympic medal statistics.

The numbers were hard to argue with. China had a population of more than one billion. The Chinese economy was booming, and there was a burgeoning middle class.

The government was determined to invest in Chinese excellence in nearly every facet of society, especially sports, because there are few better ways to make a big statement about international dominance than dominating the world’s top international sporting event. It built sports schools and academies. Chinese sports officials combed the countryside for young children with athletic talent and steered them toward a particular sport and specialty. Prevailing over that in the long term felt like holding back the ocean.

Until, of course, it didn’t.

“It turns out there’s only so many diving and table tennis medals you can win,” Mallon said.

What has transpired instead is a period of international sports dominance unlike anything in the 130-year history of the modern Olympic Games, which began in 1896. Since 1996, the U.S. has won the most gold medals and most overall medals in every Summer Games with one exception.

At the Beijing Games in 2008, the Chinese sports machine did what everyone had predicted it would, winning 48 gold medals, more than any other country, including the U.S., which won 36. Michael Phelps, swimming’s G.O.A.T., won eight of them, either on his own or as part of relay teams. That said, the U.S. still won the overall medal race that year, winning 112 compared to 100 for China.

After that half-hiccup though, the U.S. went back to largely thumping the rest of the world, though China came within a medal of tying the U.S. for gold medals in Tokyo in 2021. Title 9, the landmark 1972 civil rights law that has opened up countless opportunities for women’s participation in sports at schools and universities, has helped a lot. Women accounted for over 60 percent of the American medal haul in Tokyo.

The question now is how long that dominance can continue, especially amid a shifting formula for success in swimming and track, the country’s two strongest summer sports, and not coincidentally, the richest Olympic sports in terms of medals. During much of that stretch of dominance, having multi-event stars in the pool like Phelps and Katie Ledecky, and to a lesser extent on the track, plus a pretty good gymnast named Simone Biles, has helped plenty.

While Biles should still be dominant and Ledecky remains formidable, the U.S. heads into the Paris Games without an athlete — or two — that is practically guaranteed to collect a chestful of medals. Maintaining the dominance is likely to require a broader approach and some triumphs on lower-profile sports.

You probably haven’t heard of Eli Dershwitz. He’s a 28-year-old fencer from Massachusetts who won the world championship in men’s sabre last year. He’s got a decent chance of becoming the first American man to win a gold medal in fencing since 1904.

“Trying to keep the expectations out of my head,” Dershwitz said recently.

Americans also came away from Tokyo without a medal in rowing for the first time ever in an Olympics in which they participated.

Also, after receiving plenty of blowback from athletes who felt that America’s Olympic leaders were placing too much emphasis on winning, at the cost of their mental health, officials have shifted measurements for success slightly away from an obsession with the medal scoreboard.

What that looks like is tallying gold and overall medals but also the number of individuals who win a medal. So a relay medal in swimming or track can count as four rather than one. If women’s soccer can win a medal, that would count as 18.

In addition, Sarah Hirshland, the chief executive of the USOPC, said the organization wants to keep a close eye on which athletes perform better than they ever have at these Games.

“We are thinking about the number of human beings impacted,” Hirshland said. “Some relatively small portion will win a medal, but many go with the goal of achieving personal bests, and there are protocols set around allowing measuring them against their greatest potential.”

The organization’s reasons for that are twofold. It wants to make sure to recognize athletes who have excelled under the brightest of spotlights. It also knows that in some ways these Olympics are a step along the way to the biggest event on the calendar, which will occur in 2028 when the Summer Games arrive in Los Angeles. A personal best in Paris could help athletes and the national governing bodies that oversee their sports receive extra funding during the next four years.

“Americans love winners,” Rocky Harris, the chief of sport and athlete services at the USOPC, said earlier this year. “We want to set up Los Angeles for success.”

Harris, more than any other Olympic official besides Hirshland, is responsible for figuring out where the organization should invest its resources. He played a similar role as an associate athletic director at Arizona State University and then at USA Triathlon, where he helped the U.S. become a deep power at the Olympic distance.

USA Triathlon remains very good at finding a standout college runner or swimmer with a background in one of the other sports and helping them to learn the third. The latest is Morgan Pearson, a runner at the University of Colorado who swam in high school and learned how to compete well enough in cycling during the past decade. Pearson is among the top contenders for gold in Paris.

Like every other American Olympic official, Harris knows that swimming and track and field will form the backbone of American Olympic success. It won 29 medals, 12 of them gold, at last year’s track and field world championship, far more than any other country. In swimming, a newly dangerous Australian team won more gold medals, but America dominated the overall count at the 2023 world championships.

That said, Harris has his eyes on Dershwitz and some of his teammates in fencing. Like most everyone else, he will be somewhat shocked if the women’s eight does not get back onto the podium in rowing. He thinks some American sailors have a shot at medals, too.

America also generally does well when the Olympics bring in new sports, since its size and wealth generally translate into having someone who is decent at just about anything. Sport climbing, skateboarding and surfing all made their debut in Tokyo. The U.S. got onto the podium in each one. Those sports will be back this year. The new sport in Paris is breaking, in which American Victor Montalvo won the 2023 men’s world championship.

There may be one more reason the U.S. excels this summer in Paris. Organizers built the Olympic Village without central air conditioning, citing sustainability and a design they insist will keep the athletes’ quarters cool. Paris, though, can get pretty toasty in the summer. Heat can make it difficult to sleep.

When American athletes complained about this to their representatives at the USOPC, Hirshland approved bringing air conditioners for the team at her organization’s expense. She wants her team comfortable and well rested, enjoying as many of the comforts of home as they can. If the competition experiences some hot, restless nights, so be it.

“Consistency and predictability is extremely important to Team USA’s performance,” Hirshland said.

At the Olympics, a murky question for the Seine: Will it be clean enough to swim in?

Scottie Scheffler claims sixth PGA Tour win of the season at Travelers Championship

CROMWELL, Conn. — Scottie Scheffler won the Travelers Championship in a playoff on Sunday, waiting out  a disruption by climate protesters  on the 18th green and Tom Kim’s tying birdie on the last hole of regulation for his sixth victory of the year.

That’s the most wins in one PGA Tour season since Tiger Woods had six in 2009.

And Scheffler, the world’s top-ranked player, still has two months to go.

It was Scheffler’s fourth victory of the year in the tour’s $20 million, limited-field signature events, earning him a payday of $3.6 million. He also won the Masters and The Players Championship.

After a five-minute delay when six people stormed the 18th green and sprayed it with red and white powder, Scheffler left a 26-foot putt from the fringe on the edge of the cup and tapped in for par. That gave him a 5-under 65 and a four-day total of 22-under 258 at TPC River Highlands.

Kim then made a 10-foot birdie putt for a 66 to match Scheffler.

The hole location on the 18th was moved for the playoff to avoid the parts of the green affected by the protesters, at least one of whom was wearing a white T-shirt with the words “NO GOLF ON A DEAD PLANET” in black lettering.

Scheffler hit his approach in the playoff to 11 feet while Kim found a plugged lie in a greenside bunker. Kim’s blast from the fried-egg lie ran 36 feet past the hole, leaving Scheffler with an easy two-putt par for the victory.

Coming off a tie for 41st in the U.S. Open – by far his worst finish of the year -- Scheffler trailed Kim by three strokes after the first round, by two after the second round and by one heading to the tee on Sunday.

Scheffler took a one-stroke lead over Kim with three straight birdies on Nos. 13-15 — he had putts for eagle on two of them. While TCU product Tom Hoge signed for a 62 to finish at 20 under, and Sungjae Im joined him there, Scheffler and Kim matched pars over the next two holes to set up the surprising finish.

Scheffler and Kim share a June 21 birthday — Scheffler is six years older — and they celebrated with New Haven pizza before the tournament about 30 miles north. The birthday buddies and Dallas-area residents played together in the final group on Sunday, chatting and joking together.
