Product description.
USED-VERY GOOD CONDITION
If her 2002 tour really was her last--and after being "an evil frickin' diva for 40 frickin' years," as she puts it, she just might mean it--Cher has definitely left us something to remember her by. In the course of this 92-minute concert (plus loads of extra features), she wears enough different costumes and wigs to outfit a small (if rather odd) town, surrounds herself with dancers and acrobats galore, shows clips from her old TV series, and even plays all the roles in a delightful mini-version of West Side Story (one of the extras). Oh, and she sings too, covering everything from the Sonny & Cher years to her early solo career and her renaissance as a disco diva via "Believe." Bottom line: The Farewell Tour is a dynamic, sometimes silly, always entertaining show. As Cher herself notes, Britney, J-Lo, and all the others have a tough act to follow. --Sam Graham

20 Years Later, Bob Mackie Reflects on Designing Cher’s Iconic “Farewell” Tour
By Christian Allaire
20 years ago to this day, Cher was busy traveling the world on her iconic “Farewell” tour. At the time, the iconic singer stated it would be her very last live outing—though she did go on to perform live again many times since, notably with 2014’s “Dressed to Kill” tour and even an upcoming Las Vegas residency , too. Still, the 2003 “Farewell” tour was meant to serve as Cher’s splashy goodbye to her fans—and so the singer partnered with her go-to designer, Bob Mackie, on theatrical stage costumes that would ensure she went out with a bang. “We wanted to remind people of the four decades of huge hits she has,” Mackie tells Vogue while reflecting on their collaboration two decades ago.
Of course, Mackie is responsible for many of Cher’s most memorable ensembles over the years. He’s the brainchild behind the glitzy costumes that the star wore on The Sonny and Cher Show , not to mention her unforgettable 1986 Oscars look that came complete with a giant feathered headpiece. For the “Farewell” tour, though, Mackie remembers wanting to design more intentional outfits that reflected each hit song Cher performed on stage. “Since this tour featured her hits up to that point, her costumes have become synonymous with these songs,” says Mackie.
One of their most notable looks for the tour was what Cher wore to open the show, while singing a cover of “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” by U2. “It’s a white Mongolian lamb-trimmed, crushed taupe velvet hooded coat, [which was] opulently embroidered and beaded with smoky topaz and crystal lochrosens,” says Mackie of the statement coat. “There are root beer, silk chiffon bugle-beaded pants and a vest underneath.” The singer also concluded the opening section of the tour in a red top hat and tails look, which Mackie fondly calls the “Ring-Mistress costume.”
While it’s near impossible for Mackie to pick a favorite costume from the tour—where maximalism shined and the pair never met a sequin they didn’t like—the designer does have a few creations that continue to stick out in his mind. “I love her ‘ Turn Back Time ’ costume, which we call her ‘Swiss cheese’ bodysuit,” says Mackie of the black strappy piece. “It’s her very own classic that she has been wearing since the ’70s: black Spandex and mesh with amethyst, jet, and smoke-colored Swarovski crystals—and her trademark thigh-high boots!” Another highlight for Mackie was the showy ensemble he created for her “Bang Bang” number. “She wears a burgundy-leather revealing costume over a nude body stocking, covered in tribal tattoos,” says Mackie, “and a big feather headdress with over 400 coque feathers!”

Many of these ornate costumes took Mackie many hours, if not weeks, to create. But for Mackie, the lengthy design process never holds him back from allowing his creative imagination run wild. “I never think about how long it takes, you just do it,” says Mackie. “That’s my job. But this [tour] in particular took a very long time.” It was clearly worth the effort: Even today, the tour delivered some of his and Cher’s best stage designs of all time. It’s that pure dedication to creating a jaw-dropping style moment that makes Mackie and Cher a forever dream fashion duo. “Cher continues to fascinate and inspire her fans and audiences,” says Mackie, “and me as well!”
