As a prelude to this weekend’s Mercury Racing Midwest Challenge in Sheboygan, the world-class manufacturer of marine and automotive engines opened the doors to its 120,000 sq.ft. facility in nearby Fond du Lac yesterday as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.

Amongst those invited behind the scenes was P1 CEO, Azam Rangoonwala who said: “The factory tour was a very special way to kick off this unique event here in Wisconsin. We were asked in January 2022 to stage a powerboat race to celebrate Mercury Racings fifty years of innovation and it was a great experience to visit their global headquarters here on the southern shore of Lake Winnebago. This weekend we move to Lake Michigan to enjoy two days of racing with around 40 powerboats in action.”

Mercury has invested significantly in its primary production facility at Fond du Lac where it manufactures not only propulsion systems but also propellers, accessories and parts.

Mercury Marine promotion offers 5 years of factory-backed coverage

Mercury Marine, a division of Brunswick Corporation (NYSE: BC), today announced a promotion offering five years of factory-backed coverage with the purchase of a new 2.5-400hp outboard.

From May 22, 2023, through July 31, 2023, Mercury is offering the standard 3-year limited warranty plus two years of additional factory-backed Mercury Product Protection (MPP) Gold coverage with the purchase of a new Mercury 2.5-400hp outboard from a participating Mercury Authorized Dealer.

As a bonus, with the purchase of a new Mercury L6 350 or 400hp Verado® outboard during the offer period, consumers will receive two additional years of MPP Gold coverage – for seven total years of coverage.

Mercury City Tower is 29m higher than the Shard in London, UK, Mercury City Tower is 29m higher than the Shard in London, UK, and it was the tallest tower in Europe between 2012-2014 before being overtaken by several competitors. Currently Lakhta Center in St Petersburg, Russia holds the record at 462m height.

The skyscrapers its copper-coloured cladding is what makes it unique. The building was originally designed to be surfaced in reflective silver glass in order to mirror the buildings surrounding but eventually came to be wrapped in equally reflective bronze-tinted glass.

Thanks to its inimitable façade, the tower exhibits a constant glow that makes it appear as though it is continually immersed in the light of the sun on the horizon.

A media facade made of 2 million LEDs was installed on the exterior of the 67th and 68th floors of the building. Thus, the Mercury City Tower has the tallest media facade in Europe.

Sustainability Futures 🌿

The building is claimed by architect Frank Williams as the first environmentally friendly building in Russia since it was designed to collect melting snow water, as well as provide 70% of the workplaces with access to daylight.

The building also features a smart “energy cycle” system that regulates energy usage, ambient temperatures, and hot water distribution throughout the development.

Materials ⚒️

Materials used for the construction include heat-resistant reinforced concrete. Approximately 130,000m³ of concrete and 35,000t of reinforcement was used for the construction.

For greater reliability, two independent reinforced concrete skeletons were provided to make the Mercury City Tower resistant against a 6.0 magnitude earthquake .

This, as a result, gives the building a futuristic and high-tech look, fitting it in the Structural Expressionist architectural style.

The façade is built of steel and glass with aluminium glazing, with approximately 1,500t of foreign steel used for the façade cladding. It is the first Russian building constructed using environment-friendly methods.

About Mercury City Tower

Mercury City Tower is located in Moscow’s bustling International Business Center, a collection of high-rises similar in nature to London’s Canary Wharf and Paris’ La Defense, though it is intended to be much larger in scale. The tower’s distinctive shape allows it to stand out in a busy skyline, but more than its shape, its blazing copper-colored cladding is what makes it unique. The building was originally designed to be surfaced in reflective silver glass in order to mirror the buildings surrounding it, but eventually came to be wrapped in equally reflective bronze-tinted glass. Thanks to its inimitable façade, the tower exhibits a constant glow that makes it appear as though it is continually immersed in the light of the sun on the horizon. Along with its cladding, Mercury City Tower is memorable for its setback design. The building steps back twice along its northwestern façade, creating a tapering effect that augments the buildings height in tandem with the vertical striping that defines its corners. Each setback has a slanted roof that reinforces the illusion of added height. Though the tower is visually distinct, its façade lacks unnecessary adornments. Rather, the structure and its cladding act together to create a purposeful, clean design. In this way, the building falls squarely into the Structural Expressionist style of architecture. Located along the topmost floors, the building’s apartments are designed with the flexibility to merge units together, adding to the tower’s overall space efficiency. The building also features a smart “energy cycle” system that regulates energy usage, ambient temperatures, and hot water distribution throughout the development. Although the design of Mercury City is in no way traditional, the typical three-part massing of the volume, comprising a base, core, and crown, imparts the Russian imperatives of strength, reliability, and stability.
