Jann was a fantastic guide / driver who was kind and considerate and wanted the best experience possible for his guests!! Jann was friendly and educated/answered all questions even with personal stories! We were very lucky and had a great viewing night and Jann had prepared us for the post that we would not see anything, would highly suggest the Jann experience to everyone!

This tour started out badly when our transfer driver didn’t show up …another tour guide called the company for us and we finally got underway 40 minutes later. There was no information posted as was promised and the tour guide never made an appearance as was expected. We just saw a brief notice saying time of departure only because we checked the desk before going to bed. Hotels were just places to sleep…very little in way of amenities. Sometimes rooms had not been cleaned and door keys did not work. Luggage had to be hauled down each. morning and hauled up each night. Tour guide seemed uninformed of available rest stop areas and restaurants…so no food was provided after breakfast, suggestions as to where to find food would have been appreciated. Directions at stops along the way were poorly given…printouts of points of interest or a map of the area would have been nice. I will never recommend this group and certainly never take another Tourradar tour.
The guide was fantastic she had lots of great knowledge and tried to make the tour interesting. The tour took us to lots of interesting spots and the tour was balanced out with some free time at each location .

Trafalgar

  • Excellent - 1,966 reviews for Norway tours
the first three days I was made to stay in a room that reeked of sewer so bad that staff didn’t enter, and the TD didn’t care. On the first night we had to line up for our dinner, and many of us received nothing! as the other travellers had helped themselves to the one quiche and one pie (for group of 45) available & TD didn’t want to pay for more. He repeatedly put me in the same shared bed as a travelling stranger who had CP and required immense support but the TD asked me to assist instead of stepping in. When half the bus got severely sick, the TD refused to provide refund for optionals or call for a doctor. He removed trafalgar optional & slipped in unsanctioned dinner at a friend’s. He made us porter at awkward spots even after hotel confirmed this as a service. The optionals are to museums or to statues where it’s overcrowded, loud, and after five minutes you’re left to wander and explore a building with one insignificant ship or pictures of objects on your own but not with significant time. Over half travelling were 75/80+ and the old Americans often made extremely sexual and racist comments, and the TD did nothing!! Do the trip, skip the optionals, go with a company that’s not Trafalgar
Overpriced, unethically sold tour with false tour description and hidden costs. Not worth even 50% of the original price paid. Total waste of money, time and energy.

Walking the Fjords was fabulous, the scenery magnificent & our hosts Anders & Bård were exceptional. Our group had Bård as our guide he was informative & whilst walking he always would walk back & check on the slower walkers. The accomodation at both Nes Gard & Fjåerland Fjorstove Hotel was great. I loved the quaint little rooms with sloping attic style ceilings. Anders has converted rooms that perviously housed farm animals into an underground wine bar & a bathroom attached to the breakfast room. Both locations provided exceptional meals with quality wine to compliment the food. I cannot speak highly enough about this trip, it was a wonderful introduction to Norway !!!
Quark cancelled the cruise because of Covid 19 but has refused to refund our $9,030 deposit. Etihad airlines refunded our flight money but Quark refuses, saying we have credit until 2023. How laughable is that. My husband will be 83 in 2023 and there is no real prospect of the Australian Government allowing us as Australians to leave Australia in the foreseeable future. Quark is therefore shamelessly pocketing thousands of dollars of us and no doubt others.. The pandemic has meant that future travel will always be uncertain, Other companies like Ponant are being far more understanding so avoid Quark. They have no ethics and are greedy. You have been warned and I am disgusted.

It was a fun trip. It was nice to be able to do multiple activities around Voss, make new friends, and experience the wonderful nature Norway has to offer. The guides were great and were flexible in order to accommodate different levels and preferences , the hotel was excellent, and the operator very kind and generous. We would choose them again for more adventures in the area, and highly recommend them.

It was a lovely trip with a fun group and an excellent leader in Dushan. The itinerary was well planned and the accommodation was ok and I suspect being on the classic. Level what was to be expected. The only negative was the walk to the Oslo hotel which had us walking past people shooting no up and some
The itinerary was great and we thought well paced we got to see lots of things. Our guide was terrific, a fun and easy to get along with guy. He fitted in so well with the other travellers and we all had a fun trip. He was organised and very accommodating for all.

Fjords, Glaciers, Coastlines

With a rugged countryside of mountains, fjords, and glaciers, travel in Norway is filled with natural wonders. Part of its allure is its rich history and seafaring culture that reaches back to the days of the Vikings who inhabited Norway throughout the 9th century. Known as the ‘Land of the Midnight Sun,’ you can explore even longer with its endless summer days. Some of the best ways to tour Norway is to explore by bike, boat, car, skis, or even by husky-drawn sled.

Destination Must-See's

Norway ms1

One of Norway’s most historic and colorful cities, Bergen is sure to charm even the most season traveler. At the picturesque old Bryggen Wharf, you’ll feel like you have stepped into the pages of a storybook with its rows of tiny wooden houses sitting on narrow streets. The outdoor fish market sets the stage for a glimpse into local life and gives you a taste of the culinary delights important to this seafaring city.

Norway ms2

Nestled between the Oslofjord and forested hills lies Oslo, Norway’s capital since 1814. Oslo is the center of Norwegian government and home to its royal family. You’ll find a vibrant, emerging cosmopolitan hub with an abundance of world-class museums, restaurants and art. Norway’s King Harald V and Queen Sonja reside here, and the UN considered it to be one of the best places in the world to live.

Norway ms3 FlamRailway

The Flåm Railway Museum:

Learn about one of the steepest, most picturesque railways in the world at the Flåm Railway Museum. Located in Flåm’s former train station, the museum features exhibitions about the day-to-day life of the engineers who built this unique line and tells the story of the railway’s history through pictures, text, historic artifacts, and multimedia presentations.

Norway ms4

Glaciers and fjords:

Norway is known for its massive glaciers that feed its deep blue fjords. There are so many to see, from the largest glacier in Europe to the one of the narrowest fjords in the world. Two of these natural wonders are recognized by UNESCO World Heritage and are simply incredible.

Destination Must-Do's

Norway md1

Arctic Circle Crossing:

Here is a bucket list item you can check off your list – take a cruise that crosses the Arctic Circle. The Norwegian Coastal Voyage not only does just that but it is considered the world’s prettiest coastal route. Gaze at the distant rugged peaks and to the infinite sky…keep an eye out for sea life as you pass through fjords and by sleepy fishing villages.

Norway md2

Flam Railway

In the quaint village of Flam, nestled at the entrance to the stunning Aurlandsfjord, embark on one of the world’s steepest train rides — the renowned Flam Railway. Ascend 3,000 feet, passing mighty waterfalls, towering mountains and amazing valleys on your way to the mountain plateau of Myrdal. Make your way to the edge for the best view of the fjord of Flam below and the breathtaking surrounding landscape.

Norway md3

Geirangerfjord Cruise:

Board a ferryboat for an exhilarating cruise on Geirangerfjord. Known for some of the most beautiful scenery in Norway, you are sure to be awed by one of the most famous fjords in the world. You will find Norway’s mighty waterfalls: the Seven Sisters, the Bridal Veil and the Suitor here. See charming homes that sit on the steep hillside beside acres of farmland that have been cultivated for centuries.

Norway md4

Bergen Railway:

Europe’s most scenic rail journey is not to be missed. An engineering marvel built at the turn of the 20th century, you will be stunned at the effort it must have taken back then to make the 182 tunnels through mountains of sheer rock. Have your camera ready as this legendary ride takes you by Norway’s most tranquil and stunning landscapes, including a breathtaking fjord.

Expert Advice

diana

Just ask a Norwegian and they will tell you “there is no such thing as bad weather in Norway – only bad clothes.” So be sure to bring the right clothing. Layers are key. The weather in Oslo is much different than the weather in the mountains and even in Bergen. Just be prepared, and you will enjoy any weather.

Norway e2

Norwegians love their seafood. You will be able to try all types of fish prepared in many different ways. Don’t worry about it being too spicy, Norwegian food is light on the spice and heavier on the herbs and dairy.

Norway e3

Norway is known for making the best woolen handmade sweaters. If you are in the market, keep an eye out in particular for Selbu and Dale of Norway.

1. Which destinations can I explore with Nordic Visitor?

Nordic Visitor can plan your trip to the following countries in Europe:

  • •  Iceland
  • •  Scotland
  • •  Ireland
  • • The UK
  • •  Norway
  • • Switzerland
  • •  Sweden
  • •  Finland
  • •  Denmark
  • •  Greenland

We also offer Northern Europe packages in the following destinations:

  • •  Scandinavia – a group of countries, comprising Norway, Sweden and Denmark
  • • The Alps – visit Austria, Germany and Switzerland on an Alpine getaway
  • •  Lapland – a region spanning the northern reaches of Sweden and Finland
  • •  Svalbard – a remote Norwegian archipelago located in the Arctic Circle

2. What is the difference between Scandinavia and the Nordics?

The term "Scandinavia" commonly refers to Norway, Sweden and Denmark. " Nordic countries " is used definitively for Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland. This also includes their associated territories of: Svalbard, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, and the Åland Islands.

You may have guessed from our name that we originated as a Nordic travel agency. We now also specialise in Scotland and Ireland, two Celtic countries that are close to the Nordics.

3. Which Nordic country should I visit?

All of the Nordic countries are worth visiting at least once in your lifetime! Essentially, where to go in the Nordics depends on the sort of sights and experiences you’re looking for on your next getaway.

If it’s volcanoes and glaciers you seek, opt for a trip to Iceland. This island country will mesmerise you with its geysers, ice caves, black sand beaches, waterfalls, and so much more.

In Norway, the country with the longest coastline in Europe, you can expect a land of majestic mountains and fjords. Meanwhile, Denmark flaunts one of the world’s coolest capitals, Copenhagen, awash with cobblestone streets and first-class restaurants.

As for Sweden, you could soak up trendy cities, picturesque countryside and sandy beaches in the south of the country. Or head north during the winter months to experience the snow-laden scenery of Lapland, a region that Sweden shares with Finland.

For a Nordic aurora borealis tour , the top places to go are Iceland, Northern Norway, Lapland, and Svalbard. They are all located within or very close to the Arctic Circle, near the North Pole, where northern lights activity occurs. Here you have the best chances of witnessing this natural phenomenon in the Nordics.

Read this guide to the Nordic countries to help you choose where to visit.

4. How do you travel between Nordic countries?

As the Nordics are neighbouring countries, situated in Northern Europe, you can travel easily between them.

The Scandinavian nations, in particular, are very well connected with rail, road, sea and air links. You could drive, fly or take the train between Sweden, Denmark and Norway, and travel by ferry between the latter two countries. There’s also a Baltic cruise connection between Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden.

Iceland, on the other hand, is located further away from the other Nordic nations. So if you want to explore Scandinavia and Iceland on a Nordic combination trip , the most convenient way to travel between them is by flying. The flight time from Bergen, Norway to Reykjavík, Iceland is 2 hours 15 minutes.

5. What is the best month to visit the Nordics?

The best month to explore the Nordics varies based on what you want to see and do. As these countries are located in the Northern Hemisphere, summer is from April to September, and winter is between October and March. Each season has its own appeal and reasons to visit.

For mild temperatures, long daylight hours, and green scenery, opt for a summer tour in the Nordics . This time of year is best for enjoying the outdoors and activities like hiking. Plus, if you travel to the northernmost parts of the Nordics, you’ll witness the midnight sun phenomenon.

The months of June, July and August are the most popular, as it’s when you get the best weather and summer holidays. April, May and September make up the “shoulder season”, and it’s an ideal time to travel in the Nordics if you’d prefer to be around fewer visitors.

A winter Nordic tour , on the other hand, offers different kinds of experiences. Think landscapes draped in frost, activities in the snow, and festive vibes. What’s more, as the night skies are darker for longer in winter, you have better chances of seeing the northern lights.

6. Who are Nordic Visitor’s travel experts?

Nordic Visitor is proud to be a local tour operator in Northern Europe, with offices in the capital cities of Iceland, Scotland and Sweden. Our travel experts are based in these countries and have extensively explored the regions they specialise in.

You’ll be assigned a dedicated travel consultant who will use their in-depth knowledge to arrange your tour for you. They’ll share personal recommendations and can customise your itinerary to match your particular interests.

Find out more about Nordic Visitor and our passionate travel experts.

8. Does Nordic Visitor have a flexible booking policy?

Yes, Nordic Visitor offers Cancellation Protection which protects your payment. This protection covers financial losses that might occur if you need to cancel your tour. Or if you need to change your travel dates, we'll rearrange all your tour details in one place, so you have a hassle-free experience.

Read our Book With Confidence terms to find out how you can have peace of mind with risk-free, flexible booking.

If you do not have Cancellation Protection with us, normal booking terms apply and we recommend you check with your private travel insurance provider.

9. Why use Nordic Visitor instead of booking everything myself?

At Nordic Visitor, we’ll save you time and effort by planning your getaway for you, based on your needs and requests.

When you arrange your trip yourself, you have to carry out all the research and book all parts of your tour separately. If you need to make changes to your itinerary, you have to do all the legwork yourself.

Nordic Visitor takes care of everything on your behalf, based on your needs and requests, so you can relax and look forward to your trip.

Our travel experts will design your route, planned in a way that’s both comfortable and convenient. For example, they’ll ensure you don’t cover the same stretch of road twice unnecessarily. They’ll also book you into high-quality accommodation, and share all their insider tips with you.

This means you can leave all the hassle of trip-planning to the experts, who are based in Iceland, Scotland and Sweden. They know our destinations inside out, so you can rely on them to incorporate the best sights and hidden gems that you wouldn’t otherwise know about.

What’s more, you get access to our 24/7 helpline during your trip. Should you need any support, we are only a call away. And if you need to make changes to your itinerary for any reason, you can leave all of that to us as well.

10. What sort of accommodation will I stay in?

We understand the importance of having a clean, comfortable and friendly place to lay your head after an exciting day of exploring. To ensure you get the best experience, we use our in-depth local knowledge to handpick the most suitable accommodation for you.

The hotels and guesthouses we feature in our tours are all highly rated by visitors. Our local experts have carefully selected each accommodation partner for their exceptional standards of quality, location and character.

As we have regional offices across the destinations we specialise in, we have close connections with our suppliers and we visit them regularly. This is why we are confident that the accommodation on your trip with us will meet or even exceed your expectations.

11. Will Nordic Visitor customise my tour?

Yes, you can easily customise your tour online. Add extra nights, upgrades and day trips to your liking as you go through the booking steps. If you’d like to make your itinerary more bespoke, don’t hesitate to speak to your dedicated travel consultant.

They will gladly tailor your tour to suit your tastes and preferences. You may have particular interests in mind, such as northern lights, hiking, photography or history. Perhaps there are certain places that hold special significance to you.

If you’re travelling to Europe with kids , your personal consultant will make sure every part of your itinerary is suitable for the whole family. Or if you’re on a honeymoon or anniversary trip in Europe , they’ll happily add romantic touches to make your couples break extra special.

Most of our travel styles are flexible. But bear in mind that small group packages are a little different, as you are on a fixed itinerary for the duration of the guided tour. However, you can add extra nights to the beginning or end of your trip.

12. Can I choose the arrival date?

You can choose from a wide range of arrival dates depending on the package and season you are interested in. All of our tours are available to purchase online, so pick the best date for you from the availability calendar.

If your travel plans have changed and you want to amend your arrival date, contact your travel consultant to rearrange your booking.

13. Will Nordic Visitor book my flights?

Return flights to your destination are not included in our packages. This gives you greater flexibility and allows you to save money by using your airline miles or taking advantage of airfare sales.

14. When should I book my flight tickets?

We’d advise that you look over flights for timings and dates, but hold off purchasing until you’ve booked your preferred tour. Once you’ve had a confirmation email from your personal travel consultant, you should then choose and pay for your flights.

Nordic Visitor packages come with daily itineraries and all of your accommodation organised for you. So once you have all of the arrangements confirmed, you can make an informed choice on your flight times. If you have any questions, you can always contact your consultant for advice.

15. What should I pack for my trip?

During your time in Northern Europe, you’ll be discovering new cities, towns and countryside. And with time spent outdoors, it’s best to be prepared for all kinds of weather.

Here’s our recommended packing list for visiting Northern Europe:

  • • Walking boots or shoes with good grip
  • • Waterproof jacket and trousers
  • • Insulated jacket
  • • Woollen or fleece jumpers

A guide to Norway’s best national parks

Norway is a dream destination for nature lovers, and rightfully so! There are dramatic fjords, endless hiking trails, and so much wilderness ready to be discovered. The national parks have some of the most spectacular landscapes you can find, making them a must-visit for everyone seeking adventure in the great outdoors. Borgund-stave-church-in-Norway

Five most beautiful stave churches in Norway

The beautiful stave churches are unique to Norway. The churches are centuries old and held up by wooden posts instead of glue. Between the 12th and 14th century, thousands of stave churches were spread across Europe, but now only 28 remain, all of them in Norway. These buildings range from large structures with towers and ornate Viking decorations to tiny churches where you have to duck to not bump into the ceiling. We have put together the most unique stave churches for you to visit on your vacation in Norway.

Driving in Norway

Going on a road trip in Norway is an experience unlike any other. Behind every turn hides a completely different landscape for you to admire. But driving in a country you are not used to can be scary, and Norway is no different. With these tips and tricks, you can go on your Norwegian adventure prepared for (almost) anything and enjoy the sightseeing safely!

The people behind Norway Adventures

One thing that really sets Norway Adventures apart is that we’re a small, family company, firmly rooted here in the western fjords of Norway. Rogier fell in love with the Norwegian wilderness as a young boy. 23 years ago he and Anne moved here, determined to share those enduring experiences in nature with their young children.

Rogier founded Norway Adventures in 2004, an adventure travel tour operator in Norway, with a mission to share “the humbling enormity of the fjord landscape” with the world.

We design tours especially for active guests who are ready to dive in and experience nature and culture in Norway. As Rogier says, “At Norway Adventures, it’s not about seeing Norway, it’s about doing it – fully experiencing the culture and all the natural wonders of the mountains and fjords.”

By really getting to know you and listening to your dreams, wishes, and desires, we strive to offer you the ultimate Norway Adventure whether you’re looking for an active family vacation, a thrill-seeking adventure, or a luxury honeymoon with an adventurous twist.

Intrepid Travel

Intrepid Travel

Intrepid Travel was the brainchild of two individuals who followed their dreams, ignoring the distractions of the late 80s, to create something beautiful, something they both loved doing- a business model that revolved around adventure travel. What started as an epic road trip in the wild and desolate lands of Africa, soon emerged as a world-famous travel desk, one that offered unseen and unheard adventures to people around the world. Today, Intrepid Travel is responsible for helping out more than 100,000 tourists around the world and its staff of 1000 work tirelessly to ensure that each of the 800-odd itineraries that the company runs presents the perfect balance between adventure, culture, history and natural beauty. You’re in Good Hands Intrepid Travel organizes itineraries across Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Africa, Australia and the Middle East. They even offer trips to the Arctic and Antarctica! No wonder that Intrepid grabbed countless awards and accolades over the years- from being the 2002 Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year to winning the PATA award in the year 2007. Small Group Adventures You’re going to a new place, where the people, the language, the food, the customs, even the way of life feels different. As exciting as it sounds, you long to hold onto something that is relatable, something that gives your mind a sense of comfort. And this feeling of fellowship can never be found in large robot-like group tours. Exploring a destination in a small group not only lets you enjoy the personal attention of your guide, it also makes the journey more exciting, your companions more approachable. Hassle-Free Experiences There’s a reason we prefer to bank on the pros for all kinds of things in life- their unique skill sets, knowledge and experience lets them do the job better. The same goes for travel. Rather than doing everything yourself, relying on search engines and social media gossip only to realize that you made a colossal mistake after it’s too late, you’re better off leaving the planning and the organizing to the pros. There’s a reason why thousands depend on them after all!

Intrepid Travel specializes in cultural, religious and historic sites, museum and gallery visits, natural landmarks sightseeing, art and architecture & sightseeing tours and offers 5 trips in Norway with 1 reviews .

Experience Norway on your own terms, with the level of accommodation, types of activities and travel styles that suit you best. From bespoke train and cruise holidays, to tailor-made road trips in the fjords, an adventure awaits you with a custom tour in Norway designed by the travel experts at Nordic Visitor.

Explore Norway on a bespoke holiday

Norway is a remarkably diverse country: deep fjords in the west, rugged mountains the interior, thousands of miles of beautiful coastline and an arctic region that’s a paradise for winter sports and northern lights. With so many possibilities of things to see and do in all seasons it’s good to have trusted Norwegian travel experts to guide your trip planning and create a bespoke holiday in Norway for you.

As a local travel agency, Nordic Visitor knows how to make the best use of your time in Norway. Based on the attractions you want to see, how many days you can travel and what time of the year you visit, our experienced travel consultants can customise a self-drive, train or cruise tour in Norway to your needs and interests.

Need some extra days to rest?

We can add extra nights of accommodation in your arrival or departure city, typically Oslo, so you can rest up for the journey ahead.

Want to slow down the pace?

Norwegians are all about slow travel. And with that fabulous scenery, who can blame them? If you want more time for hiking, photography, sightseeing or just plain relaxing, we can add extra days or modify your route. We can even customise Norway in a Nutshell® train holidays with extra nights in Bergen and overnights in the fjord village of Flåm, for example, to break the journey into shorter daily travel times.

Feel like mixing it up a bit?

With a great network of scenic roads and railways, as well as flexible Havila or Hurtigruten cruise options on the west coast, it’s possible to travel by car, train and cruise ship all in one bespoke Norway holiday. What’s more, Nordic Visitor specialises in tailor-made tours of Scandinavia that combine the major cities of Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland with connections by train and ferry.

Planning a honeymoon?

Enjoy a stress-free custom self-drive tour in Norway, with special touches like champagne at your first accommodation and overnights in romantic settings like guesthouses in small mountain villages.

No matter how you’d like to customise your trip to Norway, you’ll have your own dedicated travel consultant at Nordic Visitor to advise you on possible changes or add-ons and make all local travel arrangements for you.

The reviews speak for themselves. See what Nordic Visitor travellers said about their experience with us.

The tour was perfect and went smoothly the entire time. Communication from Nordic Visitor was timely and detailed. Would book with this tour company again.

Memories we'll cherish forever

We found Norway to be a fabulous country and enjoyed every minute of our trip. The scenery was fantastic, the places visited were brilliant and the people were incredibly friendly and helpful. The information pack provided by Nordic Visitor was invaluable, the route chosen for us was superb and the places we stayed in were great. Likewise, the excursions offered, especially the Rib Safari were fantastic and gave us memories we'll cherish forever. Lastly, but by no means least, Irja, our travel consultant, couldn't have been more helpful and I would like to extend a huge thank you to her for all that she did.

Unforgettable in so many ways

It was unforgettable in so many ways, highlights after highlights. We knew to expect a lot after our trip to Iceland a couple of years ago, also organised by Nordic Visitor. Our expectations were exceeded and more. We saw northern lights three times, the food everywhere was excellent, experienced dog sledding in the moonlight and sleeping in the SnowHotel, and we saw a white reindeer! How lucky we are to have experienced all that. We have now returned home, happy and full of awe.

A great experience

Very well-organised tour and a great experience. Nordic Visitor were very professional and their experience was evident in choosing the well-located and comfortable accommodation they selected for us. Best of all we got to see the northern lights!

Incredibly happy!

Our travel agent, Małgorzata, was amazing to work with! She was able to add a few extra days in Oslo and arranged transportation via train to Bergen. Overall, I thought booking this vacation online and making payments was seamless. All the hotels we stayed in were nice, clean and safe! We loved the breakfast buffets, they were top notch! Also, collecting our rental car and navigating in a foreign country was seamless. We are incredibly happy that our tour package that we received at our first hotel included a physical map that had our tour highlighted.

I'll be recommending Nordic Visitor to my friends

The trip was really amazing. We had an absolutely superb time in Tromsø; hotel and excursions were spot on. The guide and whole the staff was really professional. Professional photos taken by the guide were really fantastic. They gave us excellent care, more than what we have experienced on any trip. Our favourite experience was the snowmobile, but catamaran trip was great too. Certainly I will be recommending it to my friends. I was very pleased that those who delivered the services showed a lot of professionalism.

Very satisfied customer

This was my second experience using Nordic Visitor. I am a very satisfied customer. A few years ago we did a self-drive tour of Iceland that was just amazing. This time we did a train/cruise combo tour of Norway. Once again, I can only say you will have a fantastic experience and you will appreciate the labuor of organising and planning being handled by experts who know what they are doing. The cruises through the fjords were beautiful as were the train trips. We loved the combination of train and boat travel as each offered distinct beauty from a different perspective. The country is truly lovely and we look forward to booking future travel with Nordic Visitor!

Extraordinary!

Extraordinary! Everything went off as planned without a hitch. Our travel guide, Juliana, was exceptional, very responsive in answering our questions and providing updates.

Very satisfied with Nordic Visitor

We were very satisfied with the tour and overall experience with Nordic Visitor. The hotels were strategically chosen and the quality of hotels was satisfactory. The optional tours were also highly recommended. Timings of the schedules throughout the tour were ideal and not rushed.

Best vacation we ever had!

Our family of 5 (3 adult children) loved our Norway fjord tour. We saw the most beautiful scenery and loved each hotel. The food was delicious. Something for everyone. Our guide Al and driver Chris kept things running smoothly. We will have memories to last a lifetime. Thank you Nordic Visitor. Best vacation we ever had!

An excellent decision to book with Nordic Visitor

Following research, we decided to book with Nordic Visitor. This was an excellent decision. The booking process was easy and informative and Hanna was always available for guidance. The accommodation provided was top class and, importantly, convenient to the train stations from which we travelled. Our tour was amazing throughout with stunning scenery and sights.

The tour gives you a fabulous overview of Norway!

The tour gives you a fabulous overview of Norway. We did a lot of travel in between sights but this enabled us to have a real breadth of experience, from fjords to mountain passes, railway adventures and small boats. Our tour guide was excellent and the sights and experiences outlined for us were top-notch. The materials provided about our tour were excellent and well thought out.

I couldn't be happier with our Nordic Visitor trip. In the past, I've always done my own research and arrangements, but Nordic Visitor's knowledge of the area paid dividends throughout the trip. Loved that the hotels were located near our trains, making everything walkable. Included breakfasts were excellent. When anything changed, our representative informed us quickly and had alternate arrangements or options ready for us to choose, making everything seamless. Outstanding service!

Frequently Asked Questions About Scandinavia

You may have a few questions about your upcoming trip to Scandinavia, so we’ve collected and answered the most important ones for your convenience. Or, if you want to know more about our processes and payment details, check out our FAQ page .

1. What countries make up Scandinavia?

Scandinavia is a region in Northern Europe that is made up of Sweden, Denmark and Norway. The neighbouring countries of Finland and Iceland are technically 'Nordic' rather than 'Scandinavian'. But many people consider them Scandinavian because they share many cultural similarities.

2. Are Finland and Iceland in Scandinavia?

Scandinavia is typically defined as the countries of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Finland and Iceland are technically ‘Nordic’ countries as they are not part of the Scandinavian peninsula.

However, due to shared celebrations and cultural norms, both Iceland and Finland can loosely be considered Scandinavian in many ways.

3. Why travel to Scandinavia?

Imagine looking out to incredible views of endless fjords, visiting chic ‘Scandi-cool’ cities and enjoying the midnight sun by the many charming canals and harbours. Scandinavia is a brilliant destination for its balance between urban areas and nature reserves, and you benefit from the best of both with the opportunity to go on pretty hiking trails and sightseeing in the city.

It’s a feast for the senses as well, with colourful UNESCO heritage wharfs, cruises along the Baltic sea and literal smörgåsbords of delicious food. A long-time favourite of nature lovers, hikers, city breakers and fans of architecture, Scandinavia has activities and points of interest for everyone.

What's more, the region has been named by top publications as one of the best destinations to visit in Northern Europe this year .

If we’ve whet your appetite and you’re curious about the attractions here, then read our first-time visitor guide to Scandinavia .

4. Where to visit in Scandinavia?

Scandinavia has so many must-see cities and points of interest that it’s hard to list them all. Here are our favourite cultural hotspots and famous sights:

  • Geirangerfjord, Norway
  • Copenhagen, Denmark
  • Pulpit Rock or Preikestolen, Norway
  • Bergen, Norway
  • Gothenburg, Sweden
  • Helsinki, Finland
  • Oslo, Norway
  • Stockholm, Sweden
  • Flåm, Norway
  • Tivoli Gardens, Denmark

For more information about exploring the region, read this handy guide on the best times and places to go , or check out the top Scandinavian cities to visit .

5. When is the best time to visit?

Scandinavia is stunning all year round and there’s plenty to see and do during each season. Pinpointing the best time for you depends on your preferences when travelling. For pleasant weather and extended hours of daylight, visit Scandinavia during the summer months.

Visit in the winter or shoulder seasons for a quieter trip with charming, festive sights. If the northern lights are your must-see, then we’d recommend checking out our Norway and Lapland packages.

For more information and travel ideas read our comprehensive guide on when to visit Scandinavia .

6. How to get around Scandinavia?

A popular option to travel around Scandinavia is via railway. Highly rated by locals, the trains are usually clean, comfortable and most importantly, prompt. The railway routes pass by stunning scenery making for an extraordinary “commute” and there are opportunities to stretch your legs on board.

Sailing from destination to destination on a cruise is also a great way to see Scandinavia, as each voyage will give you amazing views of coastal attractions such as the Norwegian fjords. For our cruise and train packages , we arrange all of the timings for you and tickets are booked before you arrive for peace of mind.

Another great way to travel around Scandinavia is by guided mini-bus tour. Unlike larger coach tours, our small group tours have a maximum of 16 people. You get to travel with a local guide who will show you their perspective of Scandinavia, and not just repeat what’s written in the guidebooks.

Scandinavia also has some of the best self-drive road trip routes in the world. You could see the countless islands of the Stockholm archipelago here, as well as seaviews from Hardangerfjord Bridge or vistas from the highest mountain passage in Norway, Sognefjell.

For more ideas on how to explore Scandinavia, check out our range of travel packages .

7. Can I choose the arrival date?

Yes you can choose your ideal arrival dates. We have a wide range of arrival options depending on the package and season. Our tours are all available to book online so once you’ve found your favourite one, you can choose the best dates for you. If you’ve already booked but need to change your dates, get in touch with your travel consultant to rearrange your bookings.

8. When should I book my flights?

We recommend that you book your package and wait for confirmation before you organise your flights as this ensures that your tour is secured and you have all of the correct timing information.

We advise checking flight times and dates beforehand so you can pinpoint your ideal tour dates. Get in touch with your dedicated travel consultant to move your tour dates if your flights change.

9. Can we add extra nights in some locations?

You can add extra nights at the start and end of all tours. For some tours, you can ask your consultant to add extra nights at destinations along the way as well. You can do this online when you book, or if you’ve already booked your package, contact your travel consultant as soon as possible to update your tour.

10. Can I customise a tour from scratch?

By booking one of our packages, you’ll enjoy fantastic accommodation, carefully planned routes and pre-booked activities. As well as this, we can personalise your itinerary with added nights at the start and end of your journey and, depending on the package, extra stops during your trip.

While we may not always build a tour from scratch, we will try our best to include any special sights or attractions you want to go to.

11. What should I pack to wear in Scandinavia?

Scandinavia is a region in Northern Europe, so the weather can be a little temperamental in most seasons. We advise that you prepare for all outcomes by packing the following:

  • Warm jumper or fleece
  • Thermal layers
  • Waterproof jacket and trousers
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Small day bag or rucksack
  • Binoculars

For more information on what to pack and wear, take a look at our handy Norway packing guide .

Amazing! We had a fantastic, well-planned trip. Everything, such as transport and all the smaller details, was taken care of by Zicasso's tour company! Everything was perfectly scheduled. The activities weren't over-booked, so we had time to spend in each place and really take it all in. We had such a great, memorable time.

The Zicasso tour company did a nice job planning out the trip and had a person available on WhatsApp until 7pm each day if there were any questions. They were responsive and handled things. There was a little bit of confusion with the guides about what was included and already paid for on a particular day tour, but it was cleared up when we contacted the agency. It happened a few times, so I am not sure if it was a mistake on the driver's or the agency’s part. When it comes to flights, I understand that erring on the side of caution is good, but having us get to the airport three hours early was overkill. At Inverness airport, they wouldn't even let us check in at Logan Air until two hours before the flight. When we flew out of Shannon at the end, we insisted they change the pick-up for the airport so we would get there two hours beforehand, which was plenty of time. I don't fault the company for this, but it may be good for them to consider not having their clients arrive too early at the airports unless the clients prefer that. All that being said, I would use this travel agency again and appreciated the itinerary they put together, the friendly guides for our daily excursions, and their responsiveness when we reached out to them.

Our Zicasso travel agent did a great job of incorporating my extensive requests into a wonderful one-week tour for us in Norway. She gave us savvy suggestions for seamlessly putting together a rather packed tour of sites to enjoy. We flew in after a week in Iceland and traveled from Oslo to Bergen to Ålesund, with multiple excursions in between. There were a couple of unexpected problems, such as an overnight fjord cruise getting canceled just over one day before we were supposed to board, but she rapidly readjusted our itinerary to keep us smoothly seeing all the sites as planned. She had us Zoom a couple of days before we took off to go over everything and make sure we had no concerns about our vacation. We had excellent guides and nice accommodations, always in the center of the cities. I would definitely use this travel agent again and suspect she will receive some calls from my friends after they see my pictures.

From start to finish, our travel agency was exceptional, efficient, timely, and very thoughtful. Zicasso’s travel agent worked with us from the beginning to plan our dream trip to Sweden and Swedish Lapland, filling every day with a lifetime of amazing experiences and memories. When an unanticipated glitch popped up, the travel team was quick to help problem-solve with kindness and expertise, resulting in an even better trip. We would recommend them to all our friends and family for a once-in-a-lifetime trip!

My sister and I had a wonderful trip! We used Zicasso's travel agent to plan it. From the beginning, all our questions were answered and they offered suggestions along the way. Everything was planned out for us, including private and small group tours. Transportation, if needed, was all arranged. Directions and maps were provided, if needed, along with any tickets for trains and tours. All our hotels were conveniently located and we were within walking distance from restaurants, shops, and metro systems. We really appreciated that. I highly recommend this travel company and wouldn’t hesitate to use them again. I can’t thank them enough for planning our trip, which has provided so many lasting and priceless memories!

We had a good relationship with our Zicasso travel agent, who helped to organize our dream trip to Japan. The trip itself was lovely. The accommodations were top-notch and our agent created a customized itinerary that accommodated our special requests to attend a baseball game, overnight at a Zen monastery, and visit a tea farm. The only downside was that once we were in Japan, our main contact ended up being another outfit, one that organizes tours for countless tourists each year. As a result, we didn't have consistent contact with our tour operator. It was only possible to reach their representatives via email or by using roaming to call them on ($$$). It would have been better to be able to reach reps and local guides via text message or WhatsApp. The information provided by the in-country tour company hadn't been updated since before the Covid-19 pandemic. It consisted of a series of PDF files with hyperlinks that weren't live, so you couldn't simply click for more information. It left a less-than-luxurious impression. Nevertheless, the trip was still spectacular and we had a great time.

Our Zicasso travel partner listened to our preferences and needs, and helped design a fabulous trip for our family. Transportation was flawless throughout the trip and the local guides were wonderful. We enjoyed getting to know them personally and learning about their hometowns. I especially valued the app that provided us with every detail for each day, including emergency contacts, hotel information, and itinerary. Thank you!
