Santa Experience on York City Cruises, York

23rd november – 23rd december 2024 (selected dates).

Join Santa for a marvellously magical festive cruise on the River Ouse at Christmas!

You might think that Santa is far too busy to drop in to York to see all the good boys and girls, but you’d be wrong! Santa is a big fan of City Cruises (we’re his favourite) and loves coming to see us every year to spread festive cheer!

You’ll be welcomed into Santa’s Grotto at our Boatyard, hidden underneath the beautiful Lendal Bridge in the centre of York. As you enter, your Captain will check that children are on the special VIP guestlist we receive from Lapland.

Don’t worry if you are bringing a pushchair, you’ll be able to park it in the safety of our Reindeer Pen! Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and, of course, Rudolph – are all away on business with Santa.

Once on board, you’ll be greeted warmly by one of Santa’s good friends, Mary Christmas or Ernie/Ellie the Elf, who will show you to your reserved seating, ready for our magical departure! Santa doesn’t let us say too much more about what happens next, as that would spoil the magic, but we can guarantee that Santa Claus himself will find his way aboard and the whole family will have the most wonderful time on board – there’s a reason why families come back year after year to experience this truly fabulous festive treat, after all…

Burton Agnes Hall, Nr Bridlington

There were lots of Christmas related events happening at Burton Agnes Hall last Christmas.

We’re thrilled to announce that our Christmas opening will run from Tuesday 14th November to Saturday 23rd December, from 11am until 5pm daily. The house will be decorated with original, handmade decorations, with many crafted from flowers and foliage cropped and dried from the walled garden. This year, dried hops and statice from the walled garden will adorn the Great Hall. Helichrysums, echiums, teasels, eucalyptus and bamboo from the garden, and the hydrangea flowers that encircle the house in autumn, will be brought indoors, too. There will be many pieces crafted in card, paper and other recycled and sustainable materials.

There will be a trail of giant, hand-carved and painted candy canes in the woodland behind the house. With 24 giant canes – one for each day of advent – hidden in the branches, will you be able to find them all?

Young visitors are particularly welcome, and can find a handmade felt snowman doll hidden in each room by the Cunliffe-Lister children. When dusk falls, Christmas cheer flourishes: with Christmas-light-strewn topiary bushes, the fireplaces glowing warmly and twinkling lights in each room, visitors will be inspired with the abundant joys of Christmas.

We will be serving wood fired pizzas, spiced hot drinks, home baked cakes and lots of other treats, and the gift shop will have beautiful Christmas decorations and gifts for sale.

Fruit Market Hull

Magical Santa Claus experience comes to the Fruit Market this Christmas!

visit santa hull

Santa and his playful elves will be based in the former Humber Fruit Brokers building on Humber Street.

The experience is being supported by Wykeland Beal, the joint venture development company of Wykeland Grou p and Beal Homes working in partnership with Hull City Council to transform the Fruit Market.

Wykeland Beal has teamed up with Redland Events to welcome Father Christmas to the Fruit Market. They left out some mince pies at the Humber Fruit Brokers building at 66-68 Humber Street and Santa’s crew duly made a midnight visit to check the venue out, leaving a message to say they’d be back with their boss at the end of November!

Natalia Cleary, Wykeland and Fruit Market Culture and Events Manager, said: “We’re really excited that Santa Claus has decided to make the Fruit Market his festive headquarters and is calling on local families to help him and his elves get all the presents ready for Christmas delivery.

“This will be a magical and unforgettable Christmas experience and great fun for children and grown-ups alike.

“We’re bringing the magic of Christmas to the Fruit Market and spreading a big sprinkling of festive cheer to celebrate this special time of year.”

Jack Mangan of Redland Events said: “Hull has never had something quite like The Santa Claus Experience. It’s more than a visit to a grotto – the audiences will be part of the magic, learning the elves’ routines and helping to save Christmas. It’s about the whole family sharing in an experience together.

“After a year when cheer has been hard to come by, we’re excited to be partnering with Wykeland Beal for this event. With their support, we’re bringing the festive spirit back to Hull!”

Four daytime performances are planned each day on November 27 th and 28 th and December 4 th , 5 th , 11 th , 12 th , 18 th , 19 th , 20 th , 21 st , 22 nd , 23 rd and 24 th at the Humber Fruit Brokers building.

Tickets cost £15 per child (including gift bag) and £5 for adults (including free mulled wine and festive treat).

As well as the daytime performances, the Humber Fruit Brokers venue will also welcome adults for evening entertainment throughout December. Revellers should look out for announcements on social media of festive events that are perfect for office parties and nights out, including a comedy Christmas quiz and karaoke with Bad Santa.

Make sure you don’t miss out on this magical Christmas adventure by booking your visit here.

  • Redland Events has a wealth of experience entertaining people in Hull through the well-established Escape Rooms Hull in the town centre. The Redland Events team have also written and directed Christmas events throughout Yorkshire, including at the Flamingo Land resort and the famous North Yorkshire Moors Railway Santa Express, but this is the first time they are bringing their mix of performance and Christmas magic to their home town.

The countdown is on and Christmas will soon be here. Shops have been stocking up with festive goodies for a while and local attractions have spent months planning their seasonal offering.

The cost of living crisis means money will be tighter for many families this Christmas season. It could be that people will plan just the one Christmas activity to partake in, rather than the series of events that they would normally be marking on the calendar.

With the restrictions placed on everyone by the pandemic, over the past couple of years, and moves now towards a more normal Christmastime, there is plenty in the offing for families to choose from. Some events will be free to attend, helping those whose budgets are stretched but still want the kids to enjoy that magical festive feeling.

Read more: Full list of Santa's grottos in Hull and East Yorkshire

Other events, such as a visit to the pantomime, obviously have costs attached but many folk will believe it is worth foregoing some of the other non-essential luxuries associated with Christmas to have one big fun blowout to mark the season. Here is a selection of Christmas events in and around the Hull area for you to choose from.

Stately Christmas – Burton Agnes Hall

Visit the Elizabethan stately home of Burton Agnes Hall, at Burton Agnes, and find it decorated with original, handmade decorations. Younger visitors will enjoy locating the handmade felt snowman doll hidden in each room by the Cunliffe-Lister children.

Follow a trail of giant, hand-carved and painted candy canes in the woodland – there are 24 to find, one for each day of advent. When dusk falls, Christmas light-strewn topiary bushes, glowing fireplaces and twinkling lights in every room of the house will add to the festive atmosphere, while wood-fired pizzas, spiced hot drinks and home-baked cakes will be among the treats available. November 14 to December 23

Family Christmas show The Marvellous, Mystical Musical Box is coming to Cherry Burton village hall

Cobwebs and cream teas – Burton Constable Hall

Immerse yourself in a country house decked with holly, seasonal greenery and splashes of festive colour for Christmas, including the latest exhibition, A Different World Through the Eyes of the Travelling Chichesters.
