The best thing about working with Host Healthcare was my recruiter, Chris Murillo. He exemplifies the model for responsive, timely, and enthusiastic service. Chris also makes the effort to develop personal relationships with his clients. This is a man who truly cares about me as a person. Kudos to Host Healthcare for hiring and retaining this quality individual.

I’ve had a great experience with Host Healthcare. Lauren Pollacci is an excellent recruiter and easily the best one I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with, she made the entire process painless. She is always extremely helpful with any need or concern I may have. I couldn’t imagine working with another recruiter at this point!
I've been working with Host Healthcare as a travel nurse for three years now and wouldn't change a thing. My recruiter Kat Cook has made the transition from staff nursing to travel nursing so easy. She is always available, listens to the needs of both myself and my wife (travel pair), and finds us the best jobs in the best locations! 10 out of 10 would recommend her and the agency every time.

Just started my 7th PT contract with Host and every contract has been a smooth transition. I’ve had great communication with my recruiter Kathryn Cook who has helped me land some great jobs and help with the credentialing process. I plan on staying with Host for many more years.

For the latest up-to-date information on licensure requirements and fees, visit the Rhode Island Board of Nursing website.

Licensure Requirements

Rhode Island is a part of the NLC so you do not need a Rhode Island nursing license to practice travel nursing here if you have a valid license in another compact state.

If you’ve passed the NCLEX Exam and are licensed in another state you may apply for license by endorsement by providing the following:

  • Proof of Rhode Island residence by providing a driver’s license, tax return, or lease (if you plan on making RI your primary residence)
  • A national background check with fingerprints from the Department of Attorney General
  • Verification through Nursys Ⓡ from all other state boards in which a license was issued. If you’ve held a California or Pennsylvania license, you must request verification directly from that state’s board

Rhode Island does not issue temporary nursing licenses — it may take up to four weeks for permanent licenses to be issued upon completion of all required documents.

Licensure Fees

Licensing fees for RNs in Rhode Island are as follows:

  • RN initial application by endorsement – $135
  • RN Renewal – $135
  • Background check – $35

Nurse Licensure Compact Status

Rhode Island signed the NLC into law on June 24, 2023.

Is Rhode Island a Walk-Through State?

Rhode Island is not a walk-through state.

Nurses renewing their licenses must complete 10 continuing education hours for every two-year licensing cycle, two of which must be about substance abuse.

All CE courses must be approved by the Rhode Island Board of Registration and Nursing Education. Approved courses include:

  • Courses approved by the American Nurses Credentialing Center
  • Any department or school of nursing approved by a board of nursing; or
  • Other professional, labor organization, or accrediting agency approved by the Board

Upon renewal, nurses must sign a statement confirming completion of the CE requirements.

If the nurse has suffered a hardship, the Board reserves the right to extend CE requirements for six months.

Effective as of August 1, 2019, the Rhode Island Board of Nursing made it mandatory for every nurse to complete one hour (per career) of CEU training regarding Alzheimer’s disease.

Nurses should retain documentation of course completions for four years.

If you’re looking for an excellent travel nurse salary, Rhode Island might be for you.

The average salary for a travel nurse in Rhode Island is $1,753.

In addition to a high-paying travel nurse salary, travel nurses receive benefits like travel, meal, and housing stipends, bonuses, medical benefits, and more.
