What they say about us

Samuel

The stay at the camp was easily the best out of our Jordan holiday. Everyone at the camp was super friendly and the jeep tour was amazing. The food was absolutely delicious. In the evening we sat around a fire and talked with other guests while drinking lots of delicious tea. The desert was so beautiful and quiet. Definitely recommend staying at Zaid's camp. And if you have time, stay for more than one night! I wish we could have stayed longer. It was the ultimate rest we needed after traveling around Jordan.

Ambre

The camp is amazing, the tent we stayed in was very nice, looked exactly like the pictures. The cook, Samir, was adorable and made amazing food. We had a great stay from beginning to end!

Hayley

Absolutely loved it here, easily one of the best places we’ve ever stayed! Zaid was super welcoming and friendly and the location was incredible - there are so many different camps to choose from but I think we picked the best. You couldn’t see another camp, it felt so secluded and peaceful and the view was amazing! The stars on the night were unreal🤩 We had a packed lunch and cooked dinner and both were great! The packed lunch had lots of snacks and the dinner was delicious. Tours were flexible and we did a 2.5 hour jeep tour and saw some amazing sights, our guide explained each one and told us the best photo spots! Definitely recommend staying here🙂

Edwin

We had a great time; all the staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was tidy, and the food was excellent. If you need to continue your journey after your stay, transportation will be arranged for you. Erg gezellig 😄

Lamyaa

A tester d’urgence !

Hediye

This camp site with beautiful designed tents were a best accommodation that we had in Jordan. Absolutely recommended. Hosts are so nice and they take care of everything you need. Zaid himself drove me to village just because I do not have phone signal and I needed to connect my family. Food cooked traditionally in the sand and was delicious. Camp fire and tea they offer is a great way to socialize with other guests. Also, the jeep tours in the desert are worth to have a best journey and memory in Wadi Rum desert. I love it. If I come to Wadi Rum again I will definitely stay here again!

Bruno

Journalists, diplomats tour beirut airport after telegraph's 'ridiculous claims' of hezbollah weapons storage.

A member of airport security looks over cargo in the Beirut airport as journalists investigate for themselves whether Hezbollah has hidden missiles between the Amazon packages. [William Christou - TNA]

Journalists and diplomats inspected the storage facilities at the Beirut International airport on Monday morning on a tour put on by Lebanese authorities in response to a Telegraph article which alleged the airport was used to store Hezbollah weapons.

On Sunday, the Telegraph published an article without a listed author, which quoted anonymous "whistleblowers" at the Beirut airport who alleged with no evidence that Hezbollah stores a wide range of weapons there.

The article claimed Hezbollah stored missiles with ranges of up to 320 kilometres, as well as explosives that affect the human nervous system.

The Lebanese government immediately rejected the claims and said it would be raising a lawsuit against the British paper and what it called its "ridiculous claims." It then issued an open invitation to diplomats in Beirut and members of the press to inspect the airport.

About a hundred journalists and dozens of diplomats joined the tour with members of Lebanon's Ministry of Transport and aviation services. They were taken to a cargo processing facility, the hangar where imported and exported goods were unloaded, and driven around the perimeter of the airport fence.

Warehouse workers watched bemused as throngs of journalists descended upon the cargo shelves, taking pictures of Amazon packages and pallets of luxury beverages recently pulled off a plane.

"The article doesn't concern us. Why would it scare me? We just unload the goods here," a worker in the import-export hangar told The New Arab.

Lebanese minister denies Hezbollah weapons at Beirut airport

An official working in the cargo warehouse told TNA that they were worried by the Telegraph's claims, saying it could frighten workers.

"The employees working here, when they read this kind of article, they will perhaps be afraid in case this airport is targeted in a future war," the official said.

The Lebanese Ministry of Transport Ali Hamieh said on Sunday that the Telegraph article's claims could expose airport workers to danger in the case of an expanded conflict with Israel .

Airport officials pointed to the presence of surveillance cameras and scanners as a prevention against the smuggling of goods through the airport, weapons or otherwise. They stressed that the airport was in line with international standards when it came to the treatment of cargo.

A western diplomat who was in attendance told TNA that the tour was the correct response to the Telegraph's claims, and that it was important for diplomats to attend the airport inspection.

Israel offensive in Lebanon risks broader war: US general

The Telegraph article comes as Lebanon and Israel are closer than ever to a full-scale war, with members of the Israeli government warning of a possible wider military operation in Lebanon.

Israel and Hezbollah have been engaged in increasingly violent cross-border clashes since Hamas's 7 October surprise attack. The intensification of clashes and the continued displacement of over 100,000 Israeli residents of north Israel has put pressure on Israeli officials to find a solution to its conflict with Hezbollah.

Israel approved on 18 June an " operational plan " for an offensive in Lebanon, though it has not specified its details. Hezbollah has said it will stop fighting with Israel once a ceasefire in Gaza is achieved.

The Telegraph article raised fear in Beirut that Israel would target the Beirut airport in the event of a full-scale war with Lebanon. In 2006, Israel bombed the Beirut airport early on in the summer war.

The Israeli army was quoted in the Telegraph article as saying that " Hezbollah 's strategy to hide weapons and operate from civilian neighbourhoods stems from its intentions to draw the IDF to target these civilian areas in times of escalation."

The Telegraph retracted a statement from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) after the association clarified that the quote was "false" and did not come from the organisation.

Taylor Swift Brings Travis Kelce on Stage in London During Eras Tour Show

preview for Taylor Swift’s Iconic Career Evolution

The Kansas City Chiefs player was seen arriving earlier in the evening with Swift’s parents, Scott and Andrea. He was also in attendance on Friday and Saturday night following a long separation for the pair as business obligations pulled them apart. The first night, Swift sang “So High School,” which is rumored to be about Kelce. During the song, lights flashed in red and gold, which are his team’s colors.

The last time they were seen together was in Nantes, France, where Kelce took in another Eras Tour show with the couple’s friends Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper, then at Lake Como for a romantic vacation.

The pop star also went Instagram official with Kelce this weekend, posting a shot on her timeline of the two of them posing with Prince William and his two oldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The royal family was celebrating the Prince of Wales’s birthday that night.

She wrote in the caption, “Happy Bday M8! London shows are off to a splendid start 🇬🇧🇺🇸🤝@princeandprincessofwales.”

A source told Entertainment Tonight that despite their separation, the couple still see a “long-term future together.”

“Taylor and Travis definitely see a long-term future together, and things are continuing to move in that direction,” the source said. “Their shared values and love of family keeps them connected.”

The pair are trying to make their schedules work despite being busier than ever.

“Taylor and Travis make sure that the current long-distance aspect of their relationship doesn’t last very long,” the source explained. “They both move their schedules around if it’s feasible and try to carve out as much time as they can to see each other, as well as each other’s families and friends. They prioritize each other and do anything and everything to make each other happy. Their relationship is genuine, and they both want to make it work, so it does.”

The Taylor Swift Economy Has Landed in Europe

Economists are debating what effect the singer’s sweep through Europe will have this summer as swarms of fans increase demand for hotels and services.

Images of Taylor Swift are projected on a giant screen during a performance.

By Eshe Nelson

Reporting from London

It’s not just Taylor Swift fans keeping a close eye on her Eras Tour dates. One of Europe’s most prominent economists is acutely aware that the singer is spending the summer jetting between Europe’s stadiums.

Philip Lane, the chief economist at the European Central Bank, had the pop star on his mind when he spoke at an event on Monday. The interviewer had asked him about the risk that stubborn inflation in the services sector could intensify, especially with Europe heading into a particularly busy summer with the Olympics in Paris and the Euro 2024 soccer championship in Germany.

“Well, that’s very interesting,” he said at the event . “You managed to say all that without saying Taylor Swift.”

Ms. Swift is touring Europe this summer, bringing in her wake hundreds of thousands of Swifties spending on airfare, hotels, restaurants and friendship bracelets . On Friday, she will perform the first of eight shows at London’s Wembley Stadium; about 700,000 people are expected to see the shows in the British capital. And analysts are debating the economic footprint it will leave.

Economists in the United States know that Eras is an economic tour de force. As consumers splurged on concerts, meals, vacations and other recreational experiences they missed out on during pandemic lockdowns, one company estimated that the tour could generate $4.6 billion in North America alone from spending on tickets, merchandise and travel.

Central bankers are justified in scrutinizing the potential inflationary effects of the arrival of a global superstar: In May last year, when Beyoncé kicked off her Renaissance World Tour in Stockholm, an economist attributed a blip in the inflation data to the singer’s concert, as fans traveled from afar to witness the first show.

Europe’s central banks have started to cut interest rates — or are poised to — as inflation has slowed substantially over the past year, putting their 2 percent target rates within sight. But there are lingering concerns that inflationary pressures have not been stamped out because price gains for services, which include hotels and restaurants, are repeatedly higher than expected.

The demand that the Eras Tour creates for hotel rooms and flights across Europe could push up prices that feed into each country’s inflation rate. Central bankers are sensitive to even minute changes in the data as they try to distinguish one-off effects from lasting ones. If central bankers worry that inflation is not slowing as expected, they could hold off cutting rates.

“All those tiny quirks are going to matter a lot,” said Lucas Krishan, a strategist at TD Securities in London. They can “muddle the picture for central banks heading into these decisions.”

Last month, Portugal’s inflation rate accelerated, in part because of a jump in hotel prices in Lisbon “resulting from a major cultural event,” the country’s statistics office said. Ms. Swift performed in Lisbon on May 24 and 25.

The impact that events like Ms. Swift’s tour have on inflation can be mitigated by how well a country’s economists anticipate the effect of her concerts so investors and others are not surprised by the data. Policymakers at the European Central Bank have said that the path back to 2 percent inflation will be “bumpy” and that a relatively strong tourism season is already baked into their forecasts.

But Mr. Krishan said it was possible that Ms. Swift's concerts in August, when the tour swings back through London, could increase services inflation in Britain, especially because one of her tour dates may coincide with the day that the nation’s statistics agency records price data. If hotel prices follow the pattern set when she played in Liverpool this month, services inflation could rise as much as 0.3 percentage points. Higher-than-expected inflation data in August could encourage Bank of England officials to hold off on cutting rates in September, Mr. Krishan said.

Other analysts are skeptical of Ms. Swift’s ability to have a seismic impact that shows up in national statistics.

“Taylor Swift is unlikely to be affecting central bank policy. She’s unlikely to be affecting government policy,” said George Moran, an economist at Nomura. “And I don’t think it’s a sustainable option for growth in a country to rely on having superstar concerts.”

Barclays predicted that Ms. Swift's tour would lead to a bump of nearly 1 billion pounds ($1.3 billion) in the British economy , but those suggestions are hard to substantiate, Mr. Moran said, because no one knows how much people are diverting their spending from other activities. Even then, £1 billion would not be enough to revitalize Britain’s stagnant economy .

Still, Mr. Moran added that for individual cities and certain sectors, the tour could have a meaningful impact. When tickets went on sale last summer, Airbnb searches in host cities increased more than 300 percent on average, the company said. The Greater London authority estimated that Ms. Swift’s eight London shows would generate £300 million for the economy .

“The impact is going to be more local than macro,” Mr. Moran said. “Taylor Swift is obviously a massive phenomenon, and the areas that she’s visiting is causing a big buzz in the hospitality sector.”

CROMWELL, Conn. (AP) — Cameron Young made a par putt from just inside 10 feet for an 11-under 59 on Saturday in the Travelers Championship, the first sub-60 round on the PGA Tour in nearly four years.

Young made two eagles on par 4s, holing out with wedge from 142 yards on the third hole and driving the 280-yard 15th hole within 4 feet.

It was the 13th sub-60 round since Al Geiberger first shot golf’s “magic number” at the 1977 Memphis Classic. Scottie Scheffler had been the most recent at the TPC Boston in 2020 at The Northern Trust.

“I can’t say I was expecting it,” Young said. “I’ve been playing better than the results have shown. Waking up this morning, I wasn’t really thinking I’m going to be 5 under through four. It was a lot of fun to do.”

This didn’t even get Young the distinction of owning the course record at the TPC River Highlands. Jim Furyk shot a 58 in 2016 at the Travelers Championship, the lowest round in PGA Tour history.

Young still moved from a tie for 43rd to a tie for 10th, five shots out of the lead.

Jordan Spieth became a footnote in history as the only PGA Tour player to twice play with someone who shot 59. Spieth also was in the group with Justin Thomas when he shot 59 in the opening round of the 2017 Sony Open.

Young was able to lift, clean and place his golf ball in the short grass because of soggy course conditions and the potential of more rain.

He could have gone even lower. After his eagle on the 15th hole, Young hit his tee shot to 7 feet on the par-3 16th and missed the short birdie putt. On the closing hole, needing birdie to tie Furyk’s record, his drive settled on the steep face of a fairway bunker and Young was unable to get it on the green.

He still made par for the seventh round of 59 or lower this year on tours around the world.

“To have a day like today where things start going in, and it feels like you’re reward for good shots, it leaves me with a good taste in my mouth,” Young said.

He finished at 13-under par and was tied with Tom Kim, who was watching some of Young’s round on a video screen at the practice range as Kim was getting ready for the start of his third round. Kim shot a 65 and led by one over Scottie Scheffler and Akshay Bhatia.

The other six rounds at 59 or lower this year include Joaquin Niemann on LIV Golf and a record-tying 57 by Cristobal del Solar on the Korn Ferry Tour in Bogota, Colombia.
