Alice Cooper Launches Too Close for Comfort Tour: Set List and Exclusive Photos

A brand new stage show allowed Alice Cooper to bring out some new toys, as he sings about in “ School’s Out ” – and to return to some old, well-loved tricks as well.

The title of Too Close for Comfort Tour, which Cooper and his band premiered Friday night at the Soaring Eagle Casino Resort in Mount Pleasant, Mich., references the shock rocker’s first foray into extensive on-stage video production. Four high-definition panels at the rear of the stage brought fans closer than ever to every grimace and sneer, the details of makeup, the nuances of the costuming, the fleet fingering of guitarists Nita Strauss , Ryan Roxie and Tommy Henriksen.

It was particularly effective during “Snakebite,” which, appropriately, marked the return of the snake draped across Cooper’s shoulders for the first time in nearly a decade; the boa got as many close-ups as the singer, and looked calm but engaged under the spotlight. The screens also allowed Vincent Price to be seen as well as heard during “Black Widow.”

With its combination of live footage and prepared videos, often blended, it was a strikingly fresh way to experience the Cooper spectacle, which only made the fast-paced 95-minute, 22-song show more intriguing and enveloping.

It was also not as tightly scripted as some of his previous productions, although the familiar crime/punishment/redemption arc still played out. It was in many ways more of a rock band kind of concert, the focus more on the song and the playing (incredibly tight after a couple weeks of rehearsals, with a sound mix to match) than the theatrics – though, as you’d expect, there were still plenty of those.

Cooper’s wife Sheryl was on hand with her classically trained dance skills as the “Cold Ethyl” Cooper abused, and to serve as a blue-gowned and powder-wigged Marie Antiodeath, straight out of mid-19th century, who marched Cooper to the guillotine after “The Ballad of Dwight Fry.” The giant monster puppet prowled the stage during “Feed My Frankenstein,” and a crew member shot paper bills into the crowd during “ Billion Dollar Babies .”

A ferocious “School’s Out” was accompanied by giant balloons that bounced around the ballroom, and for the lone encore, “Elected,” Cooper dressed as a horror movie Uncle Sam perched atop a tall podium, flanked by American flags and declaring, “Why not me?” – although during the final bows he cautioned, “Whatever you do, DON’T vote for me.”

The opening night set list mixed things up a bit as well. The show opened with a partial rendering of “Lock Me Up” from Raise Your Fist and Yell , the first time that song’s been worked into the show, before the band tore into “No More Mr. Nice Guy.” Hey Stoopid ’s “Snakebite” made its first appearance since 1991, while “Welcome to My Nightmare” returned after a nearly six-year absence.

“I’m Eighteen,” “Under My Wheels,” “Be My Lover” and “Poison” were as bulletproof as ever, while the blues-tinged “Fallen In Love” opened with Cooper on harmonica jamming with Strauss and Roxie. “Lost in America,” still eerily topical nearly 30 years after its release, was given a torrid treatment, while deep cuts such as “Bed of Nails” and “Escape” were as potent as any of the big hits.

Friday’s show was the start of plenty of road work for Cooper this year, including dates with the Hollywood Vampires and co-billed with Rob Zombie during the summer. It was a powerful start, however, setting a high bar for what’s to come.

Alice Cooper Announces ‘Too Close for Comfort’ 2023 US Tour

Alice Cooper has booked a handful of spring U.S. tour dates

Longtime shock rocker Alice Cooper has announced a new string of U.S. tour dates. The Cooper will set off on his 2023 “Too Close for Comfort Tour” on April 29 in Youngstown, Ohio, and stay on the road through a May 18 gig in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Pre-sale tickets and VIP packages for the newly announced dates will go on sale beginning Tuesday (Jan. 17) using the code SICKTHINGS. Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning Friday (Jan. 20) at 10 a.m. local venue time. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster.

Cooper’s band is a bit different from the past few years, as his lead guitarist Nita Strauss recently left the band to join Demi Lovato’s touring group. In place of Strauss, previous Alice Cooper guitarist Kane Roberts is back with the band for the foreseeable future.

Cooper has a busy 2023 lined up already. On top of his headlining dates, he’ll perform at the annual Welcome to Rockville festival, set for May 18 through 21 at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. He will also serve as support for a slew of dates supporting Def Leppard and Motley Crue in August.

In other news, the Coop is set to release a new coffee table book celebrating his life and career titled Alice Cooper at 75, out January 31st. He turns 75 on February 4th.

ALICE COOPER Announces 'Too Close For Comfort' October 2024 U.K. Tour

Icon, pioneer, and Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Alice Cooper has achieved so much in his lengthy career. But most importantly, Cooper remains one the greatest rock shows on the planet.

Returning to the United Kingdom for the first time since 2022 in October, Alice and his award-winning band are heading to arenas in Glasgow (October 14),Birmingham (October 16),Manchester (October 17),Leeds (October 18) and, for the first time in many years, more up close and in your face shows at London's Eventim Apollo (October 20 and October 21).

The "Too Close For Comfort" tour brings fans closer than ever to Alice with giant video screens blending the live action with pre-recorded scenes to delve deeper into Alice 's world.

Expect spectacle — snakes, guillotines, monsters and more — wreaking havoc on stage nightly. Classics like "Under My Wheels" , "I'm Eighteen" , "School's Out" , "Poison" , "Billion Dollar Babies" and "No More Mr. Nice Guy" are staples and there are surprises every night, effortlessly drawn from one the greatest catalogues in rock and roll.

Fresh from the success of his latest album "Road" , a concept album about the thrills and spills of touring, Alice is back, accompanied as always by his long-running live band of Ryan Roxie (guitar), Chuck Garric (bass), Tommy Henriksen (guitar), Glen Sobel (drums) and Nita Strauss (guitar).

"For 'Road' , I wanted the band to be involved in the foundation of all the songs," says Alice . "I only see these guys when we're on the road. So, I wanted them to be as tight as they are for the show but on all new material. When you have a band this good, I believe in showing it off, and this is my way of doing so."

PRIMAL SCREAM , one of Britain's best-loved rock bands, will join Alice for the tour, in all cities except London. The Glasgow band have been on an odyssey, making jangly guitar pop to brash rock and roll, incorporating acid house and psychedelia into unique records and live experiences. Frontman Bobby Gillespie cites Alice 's shocking appearances on 1970s "Top Of The Pops" as a formative influence.

In London, legendary SEX PISTOLS guitarist and songwriter Glen Matlock will be Alice 's special guest. And on all dates, up and coming acclaimed punks THE MEFFS will support.

Alice Cooper Announces 2023 'Too Close For Comfort Tour'

Legendary rocker Alice Cooper has announced plans to embark on the "Too Close For Comfort Tour" in April.

The trek will kick off on April 29 in Youngstown, Ohio, and conclude on May 18 in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, January 20, at 10 a.m. local time.

Besides the headlining tour dates, Cooper is set to perform at the previously announced Welcome to Rockville festival, taking place May 18-21 at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. The rocker will also provide support for Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe in August.

Shock rock never sleeps.

Well, at least Alice Cooper doesn’t.

The 75-year-old rocker is embarking on not one, not two but three tours (!) this spring, summer and fall all over North America.

First up, Cooper will take off on his solo ‘Too Close For Comfort Tour’ which will take audiences on “a wild ride” full of “killer tunes and devilish fun,” according to his Instagram .

After that, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee will join forces with Mötley Crüe & Def Leppard on a handful of shows as part of their co-headlining 2023 ‘World Tour.’

Finally, Cooper is teaming up with Rob Zombie for their August and September ‘Freaks On Parade Tour.’

Now that’s a busy summer.

Over the course of his 41-concert trek, Cooper has two New York concerts on his tour calendar.

On Aug. 5, Mötley Crüe, Def Leppard and Cooper drop into Syracuse’s JMA Wireless Dome .

A little over a month later, Cooper and Zombie will play Wantagh’s Northwell Health at Jones Beach on Sept. 9.

Cooper’s ‘Too Close For Comfort Tour’ begins April 28 at Mount Pleasant, MI’s Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort .

Notable stops on the run include shows in Hershey, PA (April 30), Milwaukee, WI (May 3), Louisville, KY (May 10), Knoxville, TN (May 13) and North Charleston, SC (May 15).

The run comes to a close on May 18 at the Beau Rivage Theatre in Biloxi, MS .

Mötley Crüe & Def Leppard 2023 tour schedule

Leg number two of Cooper’s summer tour kicks off with the ’80s rock icons on Aug. 5 in Syracuse .

After that, the three acts will bring their respective stables of hits to stadiums in Columbus, OH (Aug. 8), Omaha, NE (Aug. 13), Tulsa, OK (Aug. 16) and El Paso, TX (Aug. 18).

That’s it — the trio is only together for five huge concerts.

Rob Zombie tour schedule

Right after Cooper’s quick supporting run with Crüe and Def, he’ll link up with Rob Zombie for his final tour of the year.

‘Freaks On Parade’ launches at the Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas, TX on Aug. 24.

The hard rockers have performances in Tampa, FL (Aug. 26), Des Moines, IA (Sept. 2), Toronto (Sept. 6), Nashville, TN (Sept. 12) and Cincinnati, OH (Sept. 13) penciled into their tour itinerary.

Cooper will play “School’s Out” one last time in his native Phoenix, AZ on the last show of the tour at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheater on Sept. 24.

Cooper’s sound keeps evolving.

While he’s most well-known for his ’70s classic rock sound, these past few years he’s experimented with blues-y rock and gospel on the 2021 record “Detroit Stories” as well as stadium rock with his supergroup Hollywood Vampires which counts Johnny Depp (yes, that Johnny Depp) and Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry as members.

Most recently, Cooper lent his voice to the metal Nita Strauss song “Winner Takes All.”

Alice Cooper has announced details of a six-date UK headline tour.

The Godfather of Shock Rock will be joined his live band Ryan Roxie (guitar), Chuck Garric (bass), Tommy Henrikson (guitar), Glen Sobel (drums) and Nita Strauss (guitar) for his upcoming October shows, which kick off in Glasgow and finish up with two nights in London.

Support comes from Primal Scream (apart from London) and Sex Pistols’ Glen Matlock (London only), as well as The Meffs on all dates. Tickets go on sale this Friday, February 23 from 10am.
